The ki in the air was wrong. It was something that Bengal had noticed from the moment that they'd arrived back in Clover. The pule of life itself felt... wrong, just slightly tainted. Signs of aggression in animals, Mana Beasts beginning to grow in tenacity and rage. It had even begun affecting humans, causing them to branch out. Spread and turn traitor, or to banditry for survival. But it ran deeper than that. Ardere had told him everything... and in return, he had told June and Eve.
They wanted to start clearing the Dungeons as well, something he understood, but they were limited in their options. Whether the dungeons were corrupted as well or not, they were less important than the actual effect the Daemon's influence was having on the leylines themselves. They needed to get this done, first. Key leylines were being targeted by the minions of the Arch-Daemon and the knights were spread thin.
Usually, he'd not bother with such things. Helping the country was usually on his terms, not because he was asked. But this was affecting the daily lives of everyone, and his friends had died during this grand conflict. The least he could do was carry on their memory for the conflict they had died for. So, he'd told Eve to meet him and June at the center of the small town Even had grown up in. Promising her coin in return for her knowledge of the area. He didn't need her help. This was an investment in her own future, as well as his.
When she was strong, she could return the favors many times over. Just as he'd done for so many others. Now, he sat on the fountain at the center of town. The early rising mist reflecting the red glow of the rising sun as his eyes trailed toward June where she stood. The information on her family had hit her a bit... but what surprised him was the news of Yuurei, and how hard it had hit her in return. Volatile. She needed an outlet, and perhaps this would give her one.
The fact Yuurei's death caused such an emotional response in the silver maned woman was proof that she had changed. But he was fairly certain that the real reason she was so devastated was their last conversation had been one of conflict. Such a thing left a bad taste in your mouth. Bengal had experienced it many times over. He'd lost his friend, Silas. He'd lost a man he'd seen as a brother of sorts in Yuurei. Riley was still missing. Emily was broken, but not beaten. She'd responded to him, he'd seen the fire start to return to her dead eyes.
But now he had a more serious issue to handle. Once these daemon fucks were dead, he could focus on helping those he cared about more efficiently. Right now... there simply wasn't time. He could only support those that he still had, and enforce the ideals and goals of those that he had lost.

For the first time in years, Eve had money left over after getting both Dinner the previous night, and Breakfast the following day. Working for Bengal had certainly been fruitful, and she had even taken a bit to ensure her father had the next few meals worth of food prepared, and she herself had a few rations packed in a small, black leather backpack that was snuggly strapped to her back. She was in her normal orange top and skin tight leggings, mostly because they would protect her from the elements and didn’t snag on things, which was particularly helpful for her profession. She definitely was going to take him up on his offer to work for him again.
Besides, after her talk with Gideon, her father, she was all the more determined to earn a bit more money. At first, he hadn’t believed Eve’s tale, but after some time and detail, he slowly began to realize the opportunity that had slowly walked into their little town for his daughter. Having someone like Bengal take a shine to Eve like he did meant that she could truly become something more than a petty thief who stole when she had to in order to make ends meet. Finally a way for her to get somewhere in life, and he put a lot of time and energy making her realize that she needed to make sure that he wasn’t disappointed in the results of his kindness in training her in any way.
At first, Eve was against it, because she knew that he was going to pressure her to leave him behind and make a name for herself if she was capable of such. But eventually she was convinced to try her best at it because if she did somehow make the list of people Bengal was willing to train, then she could support him far better than she could otherwise. She would just have to figure out how to drag his big, stubborn ass along for the ride, because the one thing she wouldn’t do would be separate from her last living family. She was fairly certain if she left him truly alone like that, his health would decline and he would die shortly thereafter. She knew part of him wanted to be with her mother, Lilliana, but she wasn’t willing to let him go just yet.
Then there was the added benefit of seeing June again, a curious and quiet person who she was fairly certain was Bengal’s bride, or perhaps Fiancée or something. They were almost definitely a couple of some sort. And last she had left them, they were trying to find out information about their families, and she was praying for good news. Fate was both Kind and Cruel at times, but she hoped that Luck had swayed Fate in that regard. She had been waiting for them, and noted that Bengal had arrived first, taking a seat on the fountain, and made her approach from the branch of the tree behind him. Quiet as a shadow, she slipped forward, using her natural skills to make herself as invisible as possible and moving to sit down directly behind him without making a sound, even her breathing was nearly completely mute, trying to catch him by surprise. “Hello,” she said simply, watching his reaction carefully.
June stared off into the distance from her position seated next to Bengal. Today, she had opted for a dress with a ruffled train and a split down the center that started just below her hips, revealing a pair of black breeches tucked into matching boots beneath. Her grimoire was strapped to her side while a bastard sword hung from the opposite side. Her waistcoat was a deep navy color, difficult to discern from black in all but the best lighting. Only the silver color of the dress itself broke the rather drab pallet June had opted for today. If not for the light colored dress, the noblewoman might have looked funeral-ready.
A light layer of makeup disguised the dark circles beneath her eyes and her hair had been swept up into a messy bun at the back of her head to keep it out of the way, secured with a dark blue ribbon that stood out against her silvery hair.
Eve's approach and greeting seemed to pull June from her thoughts.
The alertness in her gaze was thanks to the copious amounts of coffee she'd consumed that morning. Black and bitter, the hot liquid had burned her tongue on the way down. June rubbed her tongue against the roof of her mouth, feeling the soreness from the burns left unhealed.
"Good morning, Eve." The greeting was formal and prim.
June's attention on the commoner was short lived. She looked over towards her fiance and counted her breaths while she waited for him to speak. Her heartrate was elevated from all the coffee yet her body felt heavy and sluggish. Her sleep, once the noblewoman had finally laid to rest, had been fitful and plagued with night terrors.
Clasping her hands in front of herself, the Magic Knight took a moment to think about what their mission might entail. The idea of tracking down and killing something brought a ghost of a smile to June's face. The idea that she could make something bleed called to her sweetly.
The days of worrying over the ethics of killing other creatures for pay felt far away despite only being a few months prior. Even recalling the cries of the wolf pack that June had helped smother brought a dull sense of satisfaction rather than the guilt she had felt at the time.
Instead of worrying, June fantasized about the pained sounds she could draw from the creatures they were after today. Without realizing it, the noblewoman had allowed a smirk to crawl across her face. She was eager for anything to drown out the rush of emotions that threatened to consume her at any moment. To drown out the siren song of any nearby body of water.
To put ripples in the image of her mother's drowning face until it was no longer recognizable.
Perhaps the urge to throw herself into the nearest body of water and breath deeply beneath its surface would fade if she could paint over it with the blood of her enemies.

Bengal could feel the bloodlust emanating from his fiance. A hand lifting to gently pet her hair was all he could do to help tame her rabid emotions. These were the creatures that had caused the death of their families, and friends. If that would help her concentrate that rage, it was all he could ask for in the end. There was no gentle method for all this. It was going to be rougher, harsh and a painful lesson for June to learn from. She'd be stronger for it by the end, however.
No just in raw magic and power. But as a person.
Feeling Eve attempting to sneak up on him, Bengal continued to pet June as he greeted Eve a moment before she spoke. "Good morning, Eve," before shifting his gaze to June as the young Silva lady greeted her shortly after. Bengal released a slow breath as he turned and glanced over the dark-skinned woman briefly, grunting once. She'd come well prepared, good. Leaning back with his palm resting on the fountain.
"I'm afraid there's little good news. We've both lost family and friends." He spoke bluntly to Eve first, there was no way to hide such information. Details could wait, but her understanding June's volatility was important. His gaze traveled to the far south horizon. "The leylines--magical super veins running through the earth--are being corrupted by the Daemon's residual influence even after he was defeated. The knights are spread thin." He slowly hauled himself to his feet glancing between the two women.
"Ardere, the Captain of the Crimson Lions, gave a few directions. We're going to slaughter what's left of the Daemon's forces on the outliers while the knights deal with the primary threat in Kikka. I'll make sure you're both safe." His hands lifted, pushing into his jacket pockets as he looked at June's tired, yet glowering eyes. Her ki radiated hatred. A slow breath passed his lips.
"So go as wild as you want, both of you. I'll be there to make sure you don't fall. Our first target is near the witch's forest, on its outskirts. Any questions?" They could get to the first location quickly. Between June's magic and his own, there would be no issue for long-term transportation.

Eve smiled at June's greeting, despite it's cold tone, and merely listened as the worst outcome came to pass. The dark-skinned woman was innately familiar with loss, knew of the pain and rage that it could bring, and also knew that simply trying to coddle them would do absolutely nothing to help the pain. From the sounds of it, they planned to raid a dungeon, which had always been the plan, but the deviation was that they were going to use it as a means to vent their emotional turmoil as much as they were going to accomplish the mission. She couldn't sense Ki, but she could tell by their body language, a dialect of communication that she was very proficient with, June wasn't handling it nearly as well as Bengal. He was still focused on the big picture and the mission, while June seemed to be trying to block everything out.
Eve had tried that before, and knew it wouldn't work. Perhaps a friend would be a good idea, someone she could vent to. Maybe she could attempt to be that friend... but not right at the moment. For now, she had a job to do, and that was to guide them to the dungeon of their choice... but she was a bit confused when Bengal began to talk like Eve was supposed to be in the dungeon slugging it out with them. She could be a pretty good guide inside too, mostly because that was where her skill was, but that hadn't been the plan moving into all of this at all. That being said, she felt the need to clarify before they got started. She pointedly wasn't going to apologize for their loss; she knew that wouldn't help either, and instead focused on the job.
"Hold up... real quick, it sounds like you plan on me being out there fighting alongside you two. I thought you needed me as a guide, not a frontline fighter? I mean... I can try, sure, but compared to the pair of you, I might as well be a child in terms of power." She was humble enough to know when she was weaker, and since they had been gone, she had done some homework on what the pair were capable of and had accolades for; they were far and beyond her league in any way. So what was it he was wanting from her by placing her in the front lines? Eve was certain that anything that needed to be handled could be done solo by Bengal, and even more so, if he was looking to give June an outlet, that Eve was possibly only going to be in the way.
Then there was the fact that she was probably going to get an earful from her father about the dangers of the dungeon, despite the fact that he had pressured her into accepting the job in the first place. Gideon was reassured by the fact that she was only acting as a guide, but she could probably just spin the tale into her needing to step up to help because of a certain situation or something like that. She wasn't sure how well that tale would hold up, considering that her father knew of Bengal and his exploits, but then again, a closer variation of the truth wouldn't be bad either. The massive man was known for training people he saw with potential regardless of their birth, and she could just say that he pressured her into doing that.
Eve just hoped that it wouldn't be as dangerous as the tales she had heard foretold.
June listened to Bengal's explanation of their plan of action and nodded simply. She would be able to fight without relying much on her own magic due to the strength of Bengal's enhancements. Her attention turned to Eve, who protested.
"Worry not, Eve. Bengal's magic allows him to enhance the abilities of his allies. You don't need to be very strong, just clever. Beyond that, I am capable of giving you armor. You'll be safe, even in combat. Though if any harm were to befall you, we are both capable of healing the damage," the noble reassured the taller woman.
Though she lacked a comforting tone, this was the closest to being friendly that June had come with Eve since they'd met the previous morning.
"Although if you don't wish to join us, that is just as well."
The words came out more bluntly than June had intended, but it was too late to withdraw them. The short noblewoman closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She needed to control herself at least until she could aim her displeasure at more appropriate targets. Eve did not deserve to be treated harshly for what happened.
June resisted the urge to reach up and grip her hair and began counting her breaths. About a minute later, she opened her eyes, looking calmer.
"Excuse me, Eve. I find my temper shorter as of late." With each word that passed her lips, the feeling of her lungs being compressed intensified. Each breath came with more effort and struggle, though June managed to keep her breathing pattern even enough to mask it.
"We should get going. It won't take long to get there, but even so there is no reason to linger."
June rested one hand on the grimoire strapped to her side and focused for a moment. Water gathered around her ankles forming a pool that spread and thinned until a river snaked around her feet, extending across the ground.
"This is faster than walking. You may join me, Eve; this spell can support both of us with no trouble."
Description: A stream of water, not unlike a miniature river, surrounds June and up to four other people’s feet and carries them. Any passengers on this stream of water have all wounds up to [Senior] healed after remaining on the construct for a full post. The max damage healed drops by one rank per person healed. June’s allies regenerate [15 Mana] per post while on the construct.[/spell]

Bengal kept a careful eye on June for a few moments as she snapped a bit, but she controlled herself. His eyes softened. She was controlling herself, if barely. Lifting a hand up to caress the side of her hip briefly, he would then shift his gaze back toward Eve after June had finished her explanation. Adding to it carefully.
"This won't be the Dungeon. This will be a bit further south, and a bit... different. You're welcome to stay instead of coming with us, however I think this will be good for you. As June said, my magic will augment you more than enough to handle most of the threats we encounter. Anything that's too much, I'll sense and handle first anyway." His hands then lifted, pushing against his knees and rising back to his full height as June summoned the swirling torrent of water. A hand lifting and cracking his neck briefly as he contemplated what was going to come next.
"To the Witches Forest, then," he mused simply, before white fur began to rapidly spread across his body. Solidifying along his shoulders before extending outward and bursting into two massive wings. They beat once, then twice as he flexed the large muscles, before shifting his gaze upward. "Right then," he mused, waiting until June was in the sky with her passenger before beating them twice. Blasting into the air and appearing next to the two before shifting his angle.
"I'll lead, so keep a close eye. Think of this as less you guiding us and more us offering you a free experience," he explained simply to their new passenger. "You'll grow quite quickly with this, and be able to more than provide for you and your father." With this, his gaze shifted toward the Witches Forest. His muscles flexing, before blasting forward. He knew the speed June's water could travel, so he kept his speed to match. Flickering across the forest canopy through the air with each beat of his wings, leading the way toward the Witches forest.
Already he could feel the ki on the air. It was... wrong. Corrupted. Twisted. Unnatural. Even those that couldn't sense Ki would be able to notice it. Of that he had no doubt. The air simply smelled... wrong, here. Lime a tinge of brimstone.

Eve noted how impassive June was to her attending or not, but once the apology was issued, she connected the dots easily enough. “Understandable, considering. And clever I can do.” The loss of family was not something to be taken lightly, so her being a little more agitated than normal was perfectly within the bounds of her grief. She would exercise an extra dose of patience when handling the smaller woman for some time. Maybe she would even open up to her at some point.
The thought of their magic reinforcing her to make it safe was interesting in concept, but she would need to see it in action to truly understand it. She was like that with a lot of things; someone could explain something perfectly and she would understand the words easily enough, but truly understanding something required experience and practice. She had always been a hands-on learner, but she was also a quick study.
Kinda of like the Water Chariot that June summoned into existence, seeming eager to get started. She looked to June as she approached, placing her hand on top of the water-spell for a moment and then locking eyes with June for a moment. There was a brief flash of vulnerability there; she was literally placing her life in June’s hands with a method of travel she had absolutely no experience with. That hesitation passed quickly though, replaced with her normal overwhelming confidence as she hopped upwards and landed inside the water-wagon.
Hearing that it was something other than a dungeon meant that she was walking into an unknown that way too. There were so many things she was uncomfortable with, she almost took Satori up on the idea of staying behind… but she didn’t. She needed to see this threat with her own eyes. She needed to be there to support June in her grief, even if it was silently and in the background. She needed to get out of the bubble that was her home. She needed to get out of the comfort zone of just surviving for the chance to do some actual living. And she had to admit, her curiosity helped sway her decision as well, especially about the Witch’s Forest, a place that she had heard about in hushed rumors.
She couldn’t help but stare though when he had a pair of massive wings burst out of his back. She had transformation magic… she knew that was something she was capable of, but the idea of self-propelled flight entranced her for a moment. The enticement of being able to earn the kind of money that she could casually hand out a bunch to a starving guide, like he had, certainly was enticing as well. As they traveled, she felt the sensation of something creepy, her spine tickling and causing her to shiver, a sense of dread on the air. She began to look around, worried that her sixth sense was warning her of impending danger, but realized it was just… everywhere.
"Once you are on board, you will be carried securely by this construct," June informed Eve while the woman crouched to inspect the thick stream of water.
Indeed, once Eve got on, she would find that the water flowed around her ankles and felt solid and supportive beneath her feet. The stream began to flow quickly, faster than either of the women could run on their own, following Bengal as he flew ahead of them. Just as June had told her, the water easily carried Eve along with it.
The bottom of June's dress rested on the stream, rippling with its motion but not getting wet. Similarly, the commoner's own feet did not feel wet despite being surrounded by water, a testament to the control the petite noblewoman exerted over her magic.
Arms folded across her chest, June stood still and resolute, focusing on guiding their transport across the terrain. The stream carried her and Eve over sticks, stones, uneven patches, grass, and even hills with the same speed and efficiency as flat and dry ground.
While they travelled, the short Magic Knight could feel her heart speeding up. She was eager to feel something, anything, even if it was just the splash of enemy blood against her skin. Maintaining the spell wasn't quite enough to distract June from the sensation of drowning. She recalled the night before, laying in the tub and inhaling as much water as she could before Autumn stopped her. June hadn't told Bengal about that. Autumn hadn't said anything either, or at least not yet.
Silently, June wondered if it were possible to simply allow herself to fall in battle. She could join her parents without leaving visible stains on the family name.
No, that wasn't possible. Even if she were to allow harm to befall herself, Bengal would heal her if she refused to help herself. He wouldn't let her leave him like that. Shame welled up, gripping her stomach until acid burned in the back of her throat for even thinking about abandoning someone the way her own mother had left her.
Wind whipped at her face from the speed of travel, making June's eyes water. She squinted but pressed forward without slowing down.
Before too much time had passed, they approached an ever thickening forest. June furrowed her brows in concentration before the thick stream of water carrying her and Eve began to snake up a tree, winding around its branches and making its way to the canopy before proceeding forward across the tree tops. The Magic Knight had to duck and lean a few times to avoid being slapped by branches on the way up, but such movements didn't disturb her balance.

Bengal was pleased that Eve was putting her fears aside to focus on the duty at hand. It was proof he'd been correct about his initial calls to her character. Still, as his wings beat against the wind his focus briefly shifted toward June. Her ki was erratic, shifting, and turbulent. There was a sincere concern for her in his eyes as he watched them fly over the forest canopy. She was growing if nothing else, of that he was glad. But she had to move past that sorrow. A useless emotion.
His wings beat, flickering forward once more through the air. Leading the way as he reached out with his Ki. His mana sense was garbage but he didn't need it here. The Daemon-kin had a unique ki, something easy for him to reach out for and track. He had been given a vague location of the leyline as well. It didn't take long for him to pick up the energy signature. Unnatural, twisted, like the scent of brimstone turned to pure energy. A feeling instead of a scent.
"Disgusting," he muttered to himself, before cracking his wings once. Halting and hovering above the canopy, lifting a hand so that both June and Eve were free to work. His hands opened, slamming together as his pupils narrowed slightly, their new golden hue flooding the air as white fur spread across his entire body... and then their own as well. There was no reason to hold back in this moment. Maximum power.
"They're bellow, there," Bengal pointed down into the thick canopy. "I sense nineteen signatures. Eighteen are smaller, and then one large one. Leave that one to me... you two can handle the little ones." As he finished this statement, suddenly blue fur sprouted along June's body. Claws bursting from her fingertips and her fangs extending, the same washing over Eve as they felt their magical powers greatly augmented. Though he granted neither wings, it was too intense a lesson to just throw them into.
Then, a burst of electrical energy washed over both of them as well as himself. Augmenting their speed, physical power, and granting them high-speed regeneration before his gaze shifted toward June. A signal for her to buff them however she saw fit as well. The pair were a disgustingly potent combination due to this.

The fact that Eve was taking that leap of faith and trusting June’s abilities to the extent that she would be literally dead if they went wrong spoke volumes to the level of dedication she had to her job. The contents of the job had changed, but not the fact that she had been hired to perform a task for them, and so she was going to complete it to the best of her ability no matter what. Her feet not feeling wet, despite being in a weird reverse boat made out of water that could sail through the air, was a little unsettling at first, but she adapted quickly as always, instead opting to enjoy the flight itself, which she did with a small smirk on her face, feeling the wind in her hair and on her face, watching the land pass beneath them.
“Thank you for this… I have never flown before,” she managed, hoping that it would be something that at least registered for June. With her current mental state, something that while she couldn’t say she had experienced directly, but something she knew she was very familiar with in her own situations, it was possible they weren’t even heard. She needed an emotional vent. Perhaps this mission would provide that.
I’ll hang back and keep an eye on her. She might not be as focused and need some help even if she doesn’t want it, Eve thought to herself, her smirk vanishing as she began to focus on the task at hand. Hearing the plan from Bengal, she did a quick check of her equipment, and then mentally prepared herself for the battle that was about to ensue. She would wait to jump until June moved, and then become her shadow, cover her back and watch her blind spots. She wasn’t entirely sure how to do that…
Until she became half beast.
After the transformation was complete, something that wasn’t as unnatural as she would have imagined, she looked at her claws, flexing her hands. She felt… strong. Fast. Lethal. Was this what it was like to have power? She certainly didn’t mind the sensation at all. The lightning dancing across her skin only amplified that further, and she felt like she was somehow invincible, but knew that was a dangerous line of thinking and stopped it immediately. Getting a big head like that was how you got killed.
Looking towards June for a moment, he looked towards Bengal, giving him a small smile and a nod. She would look after June while he took care of the main threat, and that was something he could rely on. Perhaps that was her mission now; not fighting or anything else, but let him have the peace of mind that his significant other would be alright so he could handle his own battle un-interrupted. She would stake her life on that task, and anything that turned it’s sights her way while she was around would be judged after she had broken them utterly.
Once Bengal stopped to hover mid-air, River Step paused, resting just above the treetops so the two women could dismount when it was time. June nodded once at his report, drawing The Bastard from its sheath and holding it ready. Facing such a large amount of enemies would require care, even if the majority of them were weak. Depending on the monsters' capabilities, this could turn dangerous rather quickly.
June contemplated her options for fighting a large group of enemies while keeping Eve safe. Depending on the strength of the smaller enemies, her defensive spells could go a long way towards evening the playing field. First, she rested her free hand on her grimoire, an elegant book strapped to her hip, opposite the sheath for her sword.
"Hold still a moment, Eve."
In addition to the lightning that arced across the bodies of the three, water snaked over their skin in thousands of countless and small yet high pressure streams. The overlapping streams of high pressure water formed a dense and flexible barrier that protected each person from potential attack. Poseidon's armor resembled blue, semi-opaque chainmail.
"I'm dismissing River Step now, so prepare yourself."
The river that had carried the two women lost the pressure June's magic exerted over it and fell away from their feet, trickling through the branches and leaves below them. The Magic Knight positioned herself to land on a branch, which snapped under her weight. Unconcerned by this, she jumped. The motion of her legs sent the branch crashing down to the forest floor while June was propelled upwards.
She caught another branch with one hand, dangling casually. Such a feat would have strained her muscles to the point of damaging them normally, but the added strength form Bengal's lightning spells made it almost easy. Below the petite woman, several creatures came running.
They were ugly things and they stunk like burnt sulfur. Wrinkling her nose in distaste, June examined the crowd of clamoring monsters beneath her feet.
One of the beasts, the wretched things, leapt at her. The Silver Eagle kicked it in the chest, water from her armor violently forcing its way into the creature's mouth and nose. With a startled yelp, the mongrel fell, landing heavily on a few of its brethren. It continued to choke and gag for a few moments before going silent. There wasn't enough time to see whether the creature was dead or unconscious as the mongrels circling beneath her got more agitated.
The jumped and slashed at the dangling Knight, who kicked them away before dropping to the forest floor, landing blade first on top of another mongrel, impaling it in the process. As soon as she touched down, a large orb of water materialized around her. The semi-opaque shield forced several growling monsters back. The few who tried to jump at it quickly found themselves gagging and choking on water as June's defenses violently repelled them.
From her position on the ground, June looked around to examine the battlefield. She was surrounded by ten snarling beasts that could only be described as eldritch horrors. Some of them looked wary, while others began to circle her as though they intended to attack from behind. How long would she be able to hold them back without recasting her Protection Orb?
Distracting the beasts and letting them injure themselves on her defenses was a solid plan, but that would only work against basic attacks. If these creatures could hex or curse, then she'd have to use a plan with a bit more finesse.

The girls were off, and as the familiar armor spread across Bengal's body his eyes narrowed slightly. It was a familiar sensation. Comforting. But there was a boiling sickness in his stomach that made him want to hurl despite it. A daemon, a creature related to what had taken his friends from him. A creature that was related to something that had bent the very laws of reality and time to its will and tossed June and him across the continent.
Fear.
It was an unusual sensation for the feral man, but he knew that's what it was. An emotion he hadn't felt since facing his father. Since his youth as he desperately fought for strength. Now it returned to him, boiling in his stomach as his jaw slowly set. Fear of what this creature could do. The minions he had no doubt his love could handle. But how strong was this life force? This dark energy, steeped in bloodlust, hatred, and malevolent desires?
He floated above the air, his wings bristling as the energy turned toward him. Detecting his mana. Knowing he was the greater threat. He no longer had time to deliberate.
"I don't know how strong you are." Bengal murmured, his jaw clenching. "But I've never been the type to roll over and die...!" His hands suddenly clenched, electricity racing up his body. Contorting around his limbs as the fur that had sprouted over his flesh expanded even further. The girls were far away. They wouldn't be caught in the storm.
The white fur spread further, and further, as several trees suddenly fell. Bellowing laughter filling the air as a monolith of a demon suddenly appeared far behind the baying hounds. A swing of his sword bringing down dozens of trees from nothing but their raw air pressure. Devastating raw physical strength, even greater than his own. The creatures lips curled upward in a wide grin as he pointed the blade at Bengal.
"You! You are worthy prey! Come, our battle shall shift this entire forest, and the death of you and the women shall be a warning to your puny lands!" The deep voice filled the air, instilling dread from the raw force. Killing intent permeated the air. A foe June would struggle against, possibly not even survive. Raw dark, twisted mana radiated from its body. Flooding the air and tainting the ground it walked upon, turning it black and twisted.
Shadows flowed from its body, glowing red eyes staring up at Bengal in the sky as the wings expanded. Further, and further. Fur spreading across his body until his entire form was shifted. A billowing silver main flowing from his body, muscles expanding as his face twisted. Becoming feline as elongated fangs spread from his lips. Brilliant yellow-silver eyes staring down at the beast as a mane of white fur burst along his neck and back. The two wings bursting, doubling in size. His new form looking down on his opponent.
Even at this level, he was only a 'worthy foe'? Then he'd give it everything.
The Daemon blinked at the sudden transformation, eyes narrowing slightly as the man's mana jumped. The pressure of his magic growing substantially larger. Then larger still as the ring adorning his clawed hands pulsed. Then another as the blade in his hands, carved from the bones of Krampus pulsed. The daemon's eyes widened even further, taking a step back as mana built up along his body.
His own power rising as he began to murmur spells in a twisted, dark tongue to enhance himself as well. Suddenly, Bengal's grimoire's pages spun. High in the air as a brilliant white light began to shine, framing the massive man turned beast in the sky. He would take no risks. He hadn't taken time to build up power, but he'd put everything else he could into this attack combination. Mana burned. Then blood began to leak from his lips, nose, ears, and eyes as the guttural word filled the air.
"Sacrifice." The word causing blood to drip from his body. The Daemon's eyes widened as he took several steps back now because Bengal's mana skyrocketed. A massive, glowing pillar of radiating silver crackling lightning swarming around his body. Igniting the clouds with silver light. Blood dripping from his body as his power was amplified through the dark blood magic that he'd created through the deviation of healing magic.
The bone blade lifted, aiming at the Daemon whose lips spread open. "Wait--"
The energy around Bengal contorted. The glowing light spreading, bursting into a storm of curses and crackling electricity that coated the sky above the Daemon, and suddenly it was released in a flash. Bolts of lightning exploding downward all at once, smashing into the Daemon as his scream of pain rocked the air. No longer chilling. Instead, infused in utter pain and terror before the residual lightning swarmed around Bengal. Then solidified. Forming into a massive swirling cloud shaped like a beast of raw lightning and curses. The explosion covering the area.
As the aftershocks of the storms faded--the ground quaked. The explosion delayed, as Bengal cloaked in this massive beast, slammed his fist directly into the Daemon's near-dead form. The secondary explosion twice as strong, leveling an entire section of the forest as the ground revibrated around them. Static energy flooding the area causing the hair of the hounds and girls all to stand on end as pure white blocked out the area. Blinding all near from seeing what the end result was.

They came to a stop, and both of them were preparing, and Eve could feel her heart racing in her chest. Could she survive this? She certainly felt strong with the effects of Satori’s spells… time around her seemed slower almost… so she knew she was fast. She knew she was strong too… she could feel it in her arms and legs… but she wasn’t entirely sure to what extent. She wanted to test this out and figure out what her capabilities were, but she had to be careful not to become a liability either. She needed to protect Eve, and in order to do that she had to take this seriously.
Then there was the fact that these weren’t regular mana-beasts… these were demonic creatures that were supposedly tainting her world. She noted the weaponry her companions had and wanted to sigh, but held the reply back at not wanting to show her discontent with that fact. She was asked to hold still, and Eve complied immediately, her only movement being the slight rise and fall of her chest, and her eyes locking onto June to see what she was now doing. Being covered by water-chain-mail was pretty cool, she had to admit, and while she wasn’t entirely sure about what it was capable of either, she was certainly going to accept any help she could get. Before she could properly acclimate, however, June warned her that their ride was about to disappear. Rapidly, she looked below her, noting where she could land and found it quickly, just in time for the water-sled to vanish.
She landed on a thick branch, sliding downwards a little bit, and looked up when she heard the sound of June’s branch snapping, but she managed to recover easily. She was drawing their attention, which left Eve a moment to do what she did best, and that was to slip into an area that no one expected, flanking the enemies en masse. She dropped down after killing a few and then summoned a massive water bubble that kept them at bay, and that was when Eve moved to do her work. She didn’t have a blade, but she had claws, and she moved to use them.
To say she was surprised at what happened next was something that was the biggest understatement in Eve’s life. It was as though the beasts were in slow motion, and she felt the ground just barely as she silently zipped across the battlefield, taking out one of the beasts that were standing in the back. She had only meant to maim one; but her claws had sliced open its throat so easily and so quickly that a second strike, with her other hand, was as simple as picking the pocket of a noble distracted by her chest. The imp was left still standing as a fountain of blood erupted from it’s ruined neck.
She wanted to kill the ones trying to get into June’s blindspots, regardless of the defenses she had up and ready, if one of them started pulling something funny, she wanted June to be able to at least see it in order to be able to react. She had managed to dash away so quickly that the ones that had been nearest to the ones Eve had killed barely registered their ally’s death and definitely hadn’t tracked where Eve had went, which was good considering she had wound up faceplanting into a bush before she had managed to stop. The enhancements were a lot, and she was adapting, but not nearly as quickly as she had hoped.
But she was already up and ready, watching for any of them trying to pull some tricky stuff. The moment they did, she would be ready and waiting to pounce. But the entire area shook, almost sending her off balance for a moment before she recovered and grinned. There was only one person that could be, and based on the tingle on the back of her spine, she knew it was alright. Bengal was fighting a foe worth nearly leveling the area for. The second one also had an explosion that caught the attention of every single demon in the area, and she quickly repositioned herself to where she was once again behind them. The explosion was devastating, and she worried about Satori a bit, but her instincts told her that he was fine.
For the moment, she needed to focus on the battle before her.
