There were but few things in the world that truly bothered Griswold, though people who willingly hurt others for their own gain were likely at the top of the list. In that sense, he did not really think of demons any other than humans, as there was no such thing as being born bad, or being born good. Just because someone was born an angel did not make them one, nor did being born a demon make them the worst thing in the world. Because at the end of the day, every sentient being had one thing going for them, and that was the ability to reason and weigh the good against the bad when making their decisions. It was for that reason that Griswold was always quite lenient when it came to animals, seeing as they functioned entirely off of their own instincts and could not exactly be expected to think their actions through properly.
As the girl was probably quite aware of by now, as long as something could think and plan out how they were going to hurt someone or something else, that made them into the kind of enemies Griswold would not mind putting to death. After all, he had already demonstrated his willingness to do so when they faced off against a Goblin scouting party that was intent on killing and pillaging around a bunch of farmlands not too far from Hapshass. Because they too were the kind of creatures that could think for themselves and could be reasoned with, but chose not to do so, they had been incinerated on the spot. Truth be told, this was most likely what was going to happen to these pirates too once the ship got close enough. So as the ship was made to move at its maximum speed on what seemed like a collision course with the pirates, Griswold wandered off-deck.
Passing by the Captain, he nodded at him, receiving a nod back as the two were both very well aware of what was about to go down here. Next, he nodded at the girl, though he really did not say anything as he wandered into the cargo hold. Looking around the barrels he had tightened up so they wouldn’t erupt and blow up the ship in the storm. This being the place where he had stashed away his blade, he tossed it over his shoulder and attached the makeshift cloth so the blade was hung from his back. Because it was quite heavy, every single strike was potentially fatal, not just because it was sharp but also because it had enough weight behind it to shatter bone if he struck someone with the blunt end. Thinking back to the time he had first wielded any weapon into a fight was long before he came to the land of Clover, back when he was but a twelve year old boy.
He had always been taught to respect natural life in all forms, which included humanity, and excluded the undead for obvious reasons, explaining why he had dispatched ghouls and wraiths without remorse up until now whenever he ran into them. But the first time he had actually used a sword, it was but a small one, given to him for the singular purpose of driving it into the throat of a large mana beast that was attacking their enclave. Mimicking the tactics of a wolf pack, the other rangers around him actively distracted the beast while he, being as small and insignificant as he was, was paid no heed. So just as the beast was attempting to lash out at one of the rangers, Griswold planted the blade firmly in its throat before twisting the blade and tugging it out. What followed was a torrent of blood so strong that it painted the entire boy red, making it into an event he would never forget.
At the time, he was told to take lives only if it was of something or someone that was irredeemable, or if their death was somehow made inescapable. For creatures, this was often the case when they grew to such sizes that they would not be shoo’d away by smaller things like humans, in which case the only way to deal with it was to kill it. As for other humans, there were those that had done such terrible things that putting them to death was simply an unavoidable consequence of their own poor choices and horrid behavior. Once they got to the pirate ship that was boarding the other vessel, he would first examine the situation carefully before making the decision as to whether or not people needed to die for all of this to come to a good ending. That said, it was also up to Captain Smack, given how he was the person of authority here at the moment. After all, Griswold was no longer a magic knight.
Sighing deeply, he slowly made his way back to the deck, knowing there was no point in running or any such things as the ship was moving as fast as he could, and running or walking would not make them get to where they needed to be any faster. Making his way up the stairs, he placed himself by the edge of the deck once again, preparing to board the other vessel and jump right into the fray as soon as they got close enough for him to do such a thing. The sooner they actually got on board, the more people they were able to save after all. That was, if there would actually be people left to save by the time they arrived. At times like these, he really hated just how slow ships really were, blaming his own lack of creativity and mana control to be able to walk on water or air.
Persephone knew the stakes that came with coming on board with Captain Smack and Gris. However, she didn't expect to come across pirates on her journeys, people that Gris might deem irredeemable. She was worried about the damage he would cause, especially as she went across the idea of the goblins' corpses in her mind. She understood that nothing was irredeemable, not even the worst of people. Sure, it made her weaker compared to others, but that didn't mean she was going to scrap that idea. Because if that were true, that would mean that good people wouldn't be able to redeem themselves from failure. Her mother was one of the strongest people she had ever known, and to think that she believed that failure was all she was hurt Persephone. She saw so much more than the defeated woman she was today, and if she can't redeem herself from that, then what hope does she have. That is why she believes that redemption can be fought for.
So, whenever she looked towards the captain and Gris, she made a slight face of worry. She felt her hands clamming up, and her whole body felt a tingle of fear for what was to come. They were in the seas, with no one around but them and the crew. Whatever happened in these oceans would be unknown to the rest of the world as long as the crew members also kept the secret. If Gris wanted to unleash a deadly attack onto the pirates, no one would be the wiser. However, she had faith in the captain's morals. She understood that he didn't ease his way into the position he was in now. No, he worked for it. The easy route wasn't always the best option to him, which is why he probably joined the magic knights. He could've sailed the seas without bearing the name of the Crimson Lions, yet he did so anyways. He made himself important, and he opened up opportunities to help the people he cared for while doing what he loved.
As she crossed her fingers for good luck, she saw the ship get closer and closer. However, they didn't try to attack from long range. They were smart for pirates, and they understood the power that Smack held. They were holding back, bolstering their defenses with the many different magic types held by their own members. Every cannonball that was shot towards the ship were blocked with slight weaker spells. Yet, the cannonballs deflected. Although few in number, they had a flow with their teamwork, knowing that they were too weak to handle the cannonballs on their own. Still, Persephone knew that they would succeed no matter what. In order for them to parry such strong attacks, they were using up a lot of mana on their own. They were getting weaker and weaker, waiting for their ships to align themselves. Whoever made the first move would gain a definite advantage.
She stood there, eying the ship before her, ready to pounce. She felt the wind blow through her kimono and her hair. She was now more confident than before. Her stature was freer with her shoulders back, head straight forward, and hands at the ready to cast whatever spell she needed. Now, all she needed to do was observe and wait for the right moment. She looked as the cannonballs made contact with the spells shooting from the other ship. From what she could see, all of the crew mates took on the most basic of elements. Some mages held the trait of lightning, taking on more precision than the other blasting mages. They had to do so, or they risked electrocuting everyone around them, after all, it had recently stormed and rain water littered the floor beneath them. For the fire mages, they were more reckless, using large blasts of magic to try and blast back the cannon balls. Though, it was no use due to the captain's power. The wind mages took a combination of both from what she could tell. Although she couldn't quite see their magic, she could tell that they used big blobs of energy, yet they were contained. The only water mage on board was the captain himself, and unlike his crewmates, he was able to battle the captain's cannonballs on his own. He was a formidable opponent to say the least.
Using all this info, Persephone closed her eyes and reached her palm out forwards while the crew mates were distracted, and formed miniature butterflies formed from her poison, sending them out towards the pirates with the close of her palm. Due to Smack's cannon balls, they were distracted, and she understood that she had to take control of this opportunity. She had even smirked a little as her butterflies darted towards the crew mates, landing onto their bodies, absorbing into their skins. All of a sudden, 3 of the crew mates were aimlessly walking around, shouting out towards their crew mates, while one nearly fell off. It was clear that Persephone had blinded them for the time being, meaning that everyone could take advantage of the opportunity, especially Gris. The others, however, merely coughed out the purple liquid from the butterflies, clearly injured by her spell.
As she looked from the pirates, her head turned over to Gris as she pointed towards the captain. She did her best to make it clear that she could help take care of the crew mates in order for him to deal with the captain. With a large thump, she nearly stumbled over before realizing that the boats had finally neared each other. It was time for a full on fight, and with the crew mates almost taken out of commission, the deed would hopefully be easier than she had originally thought. Before, she likely would've never been able to see the window she was given. Now, though, she was thankful for it. Hopefully her mentor would be able to help her adapt to battle much more as the battle went on. After all, he was more skilled than she could ever be.

With all the things that were going on, he hardly even noticed it when the girl looked at him. For what it was worth, he wasn’t actively going out there to kill anyone, though he would not refrain from defending himself or the people aboard the other vessel that was being boarded. For him, it was really simple. If anyone killed a passenger on the other ship, that person was going to be meeting a similar fate. Luckily, a good amount of them was too focused on deflecting the cannonballs being fired at their vessel to board the other ship en-masse. But that did not keep them from actually boarding it, they just had to do so with lesser numbers. Counting roughly twelve people on the pirate ship using their magic to keep their ship from being blown apart by cannon fire, four of them walked across the plank on the other side of them.
With the pirate ship being located directly between Captain Smack’s ship and the other boat, which seemed to be the kind that shipped merchandize in and out of the country, it meant having to go through the first batch of pirates in order to get to the sailors on the merchant ship. Thinking of all the ways in which things could go wrong from here, ranging from people being taken hostage, the pirates trying to board the ship they were currently on and trying to take the fishing contestants or sailors hostage, or things just escalating into a bloodbath on both sides, he believed the easiest way to handle things would be to just kill them in one swoop. From where he stood now, he could just blow up the whole pirate ship without too much effort, this much he already knew, though that would cost a lot of people their lives.
Even if these men were pirates, that did not mean they had to die, just like thieves and criminals did not need to die. However, once people went too far by willingly killing someone or even several people for their own selfish reasons, that was where Griswold drew the line. The Green Mantis was, after all, a magic knight squad that was all about rehabilitating criminals into becoming useful members of society that protected the realm. But in Griswold’s version of reality, that offer did not go out to killers, so he wouldn’t keep himself from punishing someone with death for death. Normally, he could have jumped from ship to ship from a fair distance, but with his blade weighing him down, he did not want to take that risk. So once the ship got close enough, he took the leap and landed firmly with both feet on top of the deck of the pirate vessel.
Seeing the poisonous butterflies flying around and landing on several pirates, it gave him a chance to move towards several that had not been affected, imagining the blinded ones would not be much of an issue for the time being. Besides, he was not here alone. So as he began crossing the pirate ship in order to get to the merchant vessel on the other side, he used the flat blunt side of the blade to swipe away a spell shot at him before using the same flat surface to smack a man across the floor. Not having too much trouble with making his way to the other side, all it took was taking out three of the guys that stood between him and his destination. And given the reach of his blade, he had done a fine job at sweeping them away without actually killing someone. Using his shoulder to ram a guy off of the ship and into the water before Griswold himself leaped from the pirate ship onto the merchant vessel, that was when things got tricky.
Once he got on board, there were now pirates behind him on their own vessel, as well as a few that had boarded this merchant ship he was on. Taking people hostage by aiming and holding a spell in hand, the pirate claimed that he would kill them where they stood before Griswold could get to him. And he was right. Given the average speed of a spell when compared to how fast he could move, there was no way for him to actually intercept it once it went off. Barking orders from the top of the pirate ship, the pirate captain seemed to be trying his best to rally his forces on his own ship while yelling at the ones off-ship to keep Griswold occupied. Hoping the girl would be able to hold her own, Griswold did the only thing he could do in this situation, which was to move as fast as he could to the side, rather than trying to cover the distance between him and the pirate. Once he began moving, the spell went off.
Soaring through the air towards the intended targets, Griswold managed to get close enough to use his own spell in order to blast away the spell, knock the four pirates off of the ship and into the ocean, and do all of these things without harming any of the people on top. The ship they stood on however was not so lucky, as he could not keep something as large as the ship from taking the same amount of damage as the pirates. But it was either that, or accept things for what they were and let these merchants die at the hands of some lowly pirate. With them taking out of the equation, the merchants themselves were quite safe, though the ship had taken quite a beating and would not likely make it back to the mainland while also carrying cargo. Something to think about later.
For now, he needed to get these people to safety one way or the other, which would likely mean having them cross over the pirate ship and onto the Smack’s ship from there, following the same path he had taken to get here in the first place. But for that to happen, they would need to get rid of the pirates dwelling on top of it at this point, not to mention the pirate captain that was still doing his best to gain control of the situation. Telling the merchants to lock themselves in the hold for the time being and bar the door until he returned, he made his way back to the edge of the ship, preparing to jump back on top of the pirate ship and take the fight to them.

Everything was moving too quickly for Persephone to process it all at once. Unlike the situations she had been in before, this mission included fighting against real people. People she could severely hurt with her magic, and she wasn't quite sure if she wanted to. After all, her magic including healing in it. So...maybe she could just put herself in the back, and be a recovery mage for those that needed it. Some people had minor burns and cuts from the pirates that had gotten onto the ship from before, but it seemed like Smack's ship had the resources necessary to take care of those people without her help. Yet, she still couldn't look away from them. All she could think about was her mother lying in her bad after the day the mercenaries raided her village.
Things were coming back to her in a flash. She could remember the scent of burning. Even with her mother's water magic, she could barely fend off the heat from the mercenary's flames. She could still remember the smell, in fact she smelled it now. The fire mages having a brush with the salty water of the ocean. The sparks fizzling out in the water. She remembered hiding where her mother told her to, looking at out the carnage. Even then, her mother had barely taken a hit. She was so powerful, and if only she had offensive capabilities...like the ones that Persephone had. If she could go back now, she wished that she would've stepped in to help her mother in any way she could, but she was frozen...petrified. Who knows, Persephone could've gotten hurt, but she'd rather that, then feel as helpless as she did then.
So, she brushed off her tears and used her magic to the best of her abilities. Even if it wasn't much, she'd do her best to support Gris from behind. She was still too weak to do anything impactful, but at least she could watch his back for him. So, she clasped her hands together and formed an opening at the top of the formation. She felt the poison well up within the space she created as she unleashed a stream towards Gris. One that was mostly naked to the eye. It then latched on successfully, doing exactly what she had hoped for. Although Gris had no wounds now, he would hopefully have a consistent source of running magic. The antennas had then formed at the top of his head. They weren't noticeable unless someone was actively looking for them, but hopefully Gris could tell it was from her.
She then watched and waited, keeping her eyes on Gris, hoping that his attack would go off without a hitch. She closed her eyes, and imagined all the things that could've been avoided if someone with Gris's power had come in her mother's time of need. Would everything be okay again? Would the nobles that sent out the attack be caught? Would her mother be in the magic knights by now? All these questions circled her head, but what she did know, was that none of those things happened anyways. Who was she to bring those up? No matter what, she had a duty to make her mother proud, and this was where she would make her mark, right in front of the captain.
He wasn't actively paying attention to her, she knew that for sure. After all, his beloved ship was being attacked. In all honesty, if he didn't have his crew mates or his ship to take care of, then he probably could've easily destroyed the pirate crew before her. Yet, the rules of combat on the seas were different. You were never only looking out for yourself, because the vessel you were on could take you out just as easily as the enemy can. If you don't have the crew to maneuver through their attacks, then you were bound to get hit by a large projectile in your side. All these things were things that Smack was actively thinking about. Most of his resources went to fortifying the ship. His gold streamed through the crevices within the ship itself, slowly making their way towards the exterior. At this point, the whole ship was covered in a mass amount of magic. To think that he could do that, she only imagined what he could've done with the full extent of his powers.
Even with all these things, she did know one thing. He was looking for people that could be trusted. People that could fight for him whenever possible. If she didn't know that, then she'd probably let Gris be doing all the work on her own. As pirates were slowly getting up from the hits that had taken them before, including the ones she had blinded, she quickly moved closer towards the ship, creating more and more butterflies to attack them. This time, though, the pirates were smarter. They had seen her moves from before and were prepared to counter them. However, she was able to get some by surprise, slightly shifting their trajectory out of the way from their blasts of magic. Her observations from before were starting to become realized. She knew that the fire mages would try doing fans of flames, while the wind mages would do spheres of air, and the electric mages needed to aim with precision.
With all these things in mind, she was able to get half of the pirates taken out of the equation. They were down on the ground fatigued, panting for air as her poison affected their abilities to breathe. With this in mind, a few of the other pirates had gone to help their comrades up, forgetting about Gris's assault, leaving a space wide open for him to take advantage of. She smiled at the thought. She was actually able to be of use for once...

As she opens up the front of this formation up, a sliver of poison goes towards her target's head, 30.48 cm and having the width of a penny. If it hits, the poison seeps its way into the target. The poison then cycles itself out of the user's head to form the shape of 2 antennae flowing in and out of their body. This constantly flow allows the poison to continue its usefulness through the constant sustain of Persephone's magic and the natural magic of the open air. This allows the target's brain to speed up the natural healing process(junior ranked healing), as well as giving them the ability to open up their sense more, buffing their sensory stat by 4.
*NOTE FOR GRADERS* Persephone does not speak. So, highlighted text will be pertaining to her portrayal of emotions through physical things
Preoccupied by the battle, as well as the safety of the people he was to be escorting from one ship across the other, all so they could make their way to the safety of the third ship in line, he barely even noticed the fact that the girl had casted a spell on him. What he did take notice of was that a large amount of mana had been running through the Smack’s ship, coating the interior and eventually part of the exterior of the ship with gold magic. It was a good idea that would keep the ship safe from most attacks that would come at them from the pirate’s heavy guns, if not fully absorbing the impact before it would rip holes into his vessel. With a type of magic such as that to protect it, it would come as no surprise that he had been sailing on the same old ship for such a long time without actually running into real trouble.
With the attacks the girl had been putting out drawing some of the attention away from him, he managed to get all of the merchants off of their ship and onto the pirate vessel, moving them as close to Smacks’ ship as he possibly could without getting them caught in the line of fire. Releasing a sharp whistle, he waved at the captain and pointed at the merchants that needed to be taken in. Without really making much of a motion of acknowledgement or anything, golden tendrils rose from the side of the ship, enveloping the merchants and lifting them off of the pirate vessel and into the safety of the Crimson Lion vessel. As soon as they got on board, sailors from Smacks crew escorted the merchants into the crew quarters for safety reasons, thus taking them out of Griswolds hands. This being exactly how he liked things to go down.
Because none of his magic really provided a whole lot of protection aside from striking one attack with another and hoping his would be able to overcome it, protecting people was not really something one could consider to be up his alley. Beating people up was more his forte, and with the merchants out of his way and the ship protected by Smack and the girl, that was exactly what he could be focusing his attention on by now. Aiming not to kill unless he really needed to, he had already knocked a fair amount of people off of the merchant vessel and into the ocean. Imagining they would be plenty occupied with just getting back on the ship after getting hit by a blunt blow of his great-sword, he focused instead on the remaining four pirates that were being attacked by the girl before he would shift his focus to the pirate captain.
Thanks in part to the fact that they were busy with the girl and her poison spells, Griswold could easily use his blade to ram people off of the ship and into the water, which worked exactly twice before the remaining two turned in an attempt at figuring out what was going on. Not being able to see him due to the lingering effects of the poison, Griswold instead relied on a swiping motion to just knock the air out of their lungs and send them off-board and into the briny depths. Doing so with little to no effort, thanks in no small part to the girl and her blinding poison, it left him only with the pirate captain that had been yelling and shouting at the men to round up and gather their composure, most likely having no idea that the girl and her poison magic had disoriented them to the point where they were just dead in the water at that point: no pun intended.
Feeling a hard bump coming from below the ship, Griswold momentarily wondered if maybe they had hit something. Figuring that that couldn’t be possible as they were stationary and couldn’t have run aground somewhere, he steeled his resolve and began making his way to the captain, who seemed rather cocky about it. Even though his men had been taken out in what felt like a matter of seconds, he likely believed that he would be the one that would bring about the turning point. Had he not foolishly split his forces between two ships, he might have stood some measurement of a chance, this percentage growing with a reasonable amount if neither Griswold nor the girl had been around. But with all of these things having played against him, by this point, the pirate captain was really just one person standing against an entire ship full of people eager to beat him up. Luckily for the elf though, he had dibs as he was the closest.
Moving up the staircase to where the captain was in what felt like two steps, Griswold brought down his blade with a large amount of force, causing the blade to blow through various planks and leaving a hole in that section of the ship. Showing at least some modicum of skill by dodging his rather straight-forward attack like that, electricity shot up and down the man’s body. A lightning mage at sea, how marvelous. At least that was what Griswold thought to himself as the man began darting around him, reminding him of a member of the magic knights called Kreig that also used it. From what he could tell though, lightning was just used as a means of increasing ones speed and processing speed, his goal was likely to get close to him and zap him with a jolt of electricity. One thing was sure, actually getting to the point of hitting him with his large blade was going to be quite difficult.
As such, he had to go with some altogether different measures which meant result in the man taking quite a bit more damage than he might have hoped. Still though, it was something that simply had to happen if they were to put an end to all of this mess soon. So as his body began to glow for a moment, a burst of mana soon erupted forth, capturing the man as he was running about and slamming him into one of the masts. Hearing a loud crack, Griswold was rather certain the man had broken a rib or two on impact, though he could not be content with that as the man might still make an attempt at using a more powerful spell in a last ditch effort at attacking Smack’s ship. So before the guy could regain his composure, Griswold rushed over to him and punched him in the mouth as hard as he could, knocking the guy out completely.
Taking a deep breath before exhaling a long sigh, he looked over at Smack and gestured to get this guy too. As similar golden tendrils made their way from the ship to the pirate captain and wrapped him up in gilded bindings, he too was transported off of the boat and unto the Crimson Lion ship. Slowly making his way back over to the other ship so as to leave the pirate vessel behind, he imagined they would soon need to start getting a party together so as to get all of the merchandize the other ship was transporting onto their boat. Because even with the rescue attempt being a success, that did not mean that they were just going to be able to leave now, as it seemed unlikely that the merchants they saved were going to be okay with that. And seeing as how he was quite ready to leave, go home and not go out to sea ever again, now seemed like the time to go about it.
“Alright everyone, I’m going to need a lot of helpful hands that can carry some weight to move the cargo from the merchant ship and into our hold. I don’t mean to take control of the situation in any way, though I very much want to go home. So the sooner we get this mess sorted, the sooner we can all go back to our warm beds and call it a day.”
Making a rather broad statement, it did not seem like a whole lot of people were planning on aiding him, what with the fighting having just come to an end and then already getting called back into action right away. Truth be told, Griswold understood where they were coming from, given how they had gone through the same things he had. First they had to brave a storm, then they had to fend off pirates, and now they had to go through manual labor by lifting all sorts of things out of the merchant vessel. But since it was something that clearly needed to happen sooner or later, Captain Smack let his own voice below across the deck, letting all able bodied men and women know that if they were not injured in any way, that they were to report for duty and begin unloading the merchant vessel as soon as possible. As he said it though, Griswold got the feeling that the man was in the know of something no one else was.
For as the man began moving from their own ship, across the pirate ship and onto the merchant ship, all he did was look at the water as if seeing something down there. When Griswold looked however, he did not see a damned thing, aside from the glittering of sunlight dancing off of the waves and the gold particles drifting through it. Figuring Smack was using his gold magic as a means of scouting out the water, it might have explained the earlier thump he felt against the bottom of the pirate vessel. Deciding not to dwell on it for too long as there was work to be done, Griswold too made his way across the ships and towards the merchant vessel. Many hands made light work, that was something his family once taught him, and they weren’t wrong.

Slowly, bit by bit, the battle had finally reached near the end of its tide. The battle was tough, and its likely that without the help of Griswold, the ship would've met a likely peril. Their crew was strong enough to handle the captain's onslaught of attacks, and without his full power, they could've likely sieged the ship and brought some damage onto it. However, Persephone watched in awe as she heard the loud crashes and wood and debris from the fight that was happening on the run down pirate ship. Persephone could barely see what was happening from where she was standing, but she understood one thing...Gris was winning. While the pirates on the ship had more basic elements, Gris had sheer power in his element over their moldable elements. Even the pirate captain stood no chance against him. She knew that it took a very capable mage to do what he could do with his solar magic. It was hard to harness, and she understand that she'd need even more control with her poison. It wasn't meant to be a powerful hitter like his. She needed to carefully whittle down the enemy, and that would require multiple attacks needing to affect them at once, and if they were big and flashy moves, then it wouldn't work.
She made sure to take mental note of everything he was doing, trying to figure out ways to beat him if she would ever have to face him one day. At the moment, it seemed unimaginable to match his power, but she would still look onward to create the best course of action. She then looked back to see Captain Smack looking in awe of Gris's power as well. The power levels of the 2 seemed fairly even with Smack having a bit more magic power than Gris, but even if he was stronger, Smack was impressed nonetheless. However, a look of worry dawned on her face. She wasn't quite expecting it, especially with how he looked before. She looked back at Gris, wondering what could be happening, but he was winning all the same. She didn't notice any changes in the environment either. The skies were clear, and the waters continued their small ripples hitting both ships. After she turned back to him, he changed back to his original facade as if nothing was wrong...
Trying to not make herself seem useless, Persephone scrapped the thought of Smack's worry out of her head and immediately went onward to the prisoners that were being tossed onto the ship. Her and Gris made great work on them without killing any of them. Some were close after being down in the water for so long, but the recovery mages on board were doing their part in trying to help them get back on their feet. After all, the ship's journey was funded by the magic knights, and any sort of death on their watch, whether it be allied or enemy forces meant a cut to their own resources. So, Persephone took her hand and grabbed a ribbon that was attached around her wrist, using it to put her hair up. She was surprised that she'd done it so quickly without even a second thought. Although she wore her hair down so much, she liked having it up and out of the way. Though, she felt herself blush at the thought of other people seeing her face, so she just put her head down towards the injured person in front of her.
She recognized his face. He was one of the lightning mages on board at the time. He seemed to be badly injured from a hit to his chest, causing a broken rib to be clearly shown. All the other recovery mages seemed to have been working on people themselves, so Persephone made it her mission to help the man until a stronger mage could come along. She closed her eyes and formed a sliver of poison as she directed it towards the pirates head, releasing it. She felt as the poison made contact, moving her hands to flow with the poison as she guided it into his brain and outwards into the air. It seamlessly flowed to form 2 beautiful flows of poison over his in. One flowing inwards and the other flowing outwards. She imagined her mother's words in her head helping her to understand that recovery magic wasn't as simple as instantly healing up wounds. Although some could, most others needed to envision their magic working their way into the natural recovery systems of the human body, recovering them at inhuman rates.
Since she was so new at all of this, it took her time to heal even the smaller wounds on the man. It was unlikely that she'd be able to even heal his ribs. No, she was sure that she couldn't. So, she looked over to one of the lead mages helping with the process and urged her to come over. The woman was poised and her magic power was much like her mother's in the fact that she possessed powerful healing magic. She knelt down to where Persephone stood and clasped her hands. She smirked at her very slightly, and leaned in, whispering into her ear, "I've been watching you, and I just wanted to say I'm impressed. Although you're new, you show potential. Your technique is impeccable, but you're holding yourself back. I don't seem to understand why, but I'm sure you have your reasons. However, if you ever want to be something truly great, you have to let go." She then moved her direction towards the body before her and closed her eyes as strings began forming in between her hands. Though, they didn't seem to be normal by any means. Instead, they were covered in sap. In awe, she watched as the woman unleashed the strings onto the man, and healed him up in an instant. She watched as the strings thoroughly webbed itself into his wounds, pulling them back into place and sealing them with sap, and just like that the man was breathing completely normally again, although still passed out.
Astonished by this, Persephone opened up her mouth in awe as the woman stood up and walked away. With her head away from Persephone, she stopped in her tracks and spoke up, "Now then, I believe Captain Smack needs to speak to the crewmates. I don't know what the urgency is, but I'm sure that its something big. Maybe we can talk again in the future. Hopefully by then it won't be so one sided." Persephone then reached her hand toward her throat, watching as the woman walked away. She wished she could say something that would allow their conversation continue, but the woman was right, Persephone was holding herself back, and she couldn't stop herself from doing so.

Persephone casts Antenna on the injured pirate Name of Spell: Antenna Elemental Type: Poison Rank & Spell Type: Junior | Healing Range & Speed: 25 meters, 10 m/s Mana Cost: 10 | 5 Stats Effected: +4 Sensory Applicable Perks: COMBAT AID Description: Persephone puts her right hand over her left, cupping both of them as a green poison fills the space between.

As everyone was hard at work moving the crates and other content from the merchant vessel and onto the larger ship owned by Smack, there were various instances where Griswold felt some kind of hard bumping against the bottom of the ship. But for what it was worth, the man was not exactly a sailor, so he imagined them to just be the waves clashing against the wooden hull. Due to the heavy winds, he never even noticed that the majority of the pirates he had knocked into the water never made it back up and onto the ship in some shape or fashion. After several minutes had passed, he saw how Smack was still heavily focused on the waters, which he had been ever since Griswold had started hauling. At first, he figured the man was just being lazy and did not feel like carrying anything heavy himself, though it was not long after that that he figured out what was really going on.
A brief moment of eye contact between the two proved that Smack was struggling with something, and had been for some time now. And when the final member of his crew got onto his ship, he saw Smack’s lip spell out the word “Danger”. Mere moments after he did, all hell broke loose as Smack tumbled over, likely due to the strain of having to keep up his magic for this long and protecting his people. Once he did, various large tentacles rose from the water, clad in a layer of gold, showing that it was these things that he had been trying to keep submerged this whole time. Likely having gorged itself on the pirates that had fallen into the water, these things were now hungry for more. And now that all of the people present had all gathered on the same ship, all the tentacles needed to do was bring the one ship down and have enough food for days. Obviously though, no one was about to let that happen.
One thing was clear though, they truly went from the frying pan and into the fire.
