It had been a long time since the magic knight exams had been held, over a rear by the silver-haired woman's recollection and they had been interesting from what she had heard. She never in her life expected to be sitting within the captain's box proctoring the exams, she had to admit that she was actually quite nervous due to it. From what she had been told the exam grounds had been completely destroyed, but it had since been repaired, she had heard of the unrest but still it had been the tradition for generations for the exams to be held within Kikka. She had travelled from Raque early that morning so she may have some time to walk down the streets of Kikka, she had a personal errand that she wanted to do at the same time as wanting to feel the overall vibe of the town.
She had gone to the charred house that still stood and carefully passed through the insides to the back garden where the lantern still light by blue flame hung above two graves with fluttering blossoms. Kneeling she paid respects and gave prayers to the mother and child given them a promise that those who done this to them would face justice fairly and that the one who they cherished would never have to fall into that darkness. With everything said she stood and left the exact same way she came, she cared little for the looks that she was given as she exited, it was clear that the house was still seen as cursed but she had purchased the land to make sure that nothing would happen to it. She had every intention of giving the deed to Valo when she saw him next so he could do with it as he willed.
The atmosphere was so tense, she felt like she was going to suffocate as she walked to the exam grounds and looked around, it looked so different yet the same it was a surreal feeling. It was seeming that it was going to be a bright day and slowly the rest of the captains would arrive, making their way inside it was abundantly clear when everyone had arrived and so they would take their seats in the captain's box opposite from where the Archivist had found himself. Edward seemed as uncomfortable as she had found herself though he hadn't been showing it, though she was well accustomed to each of the Ravencrest's members telltale signs having grown up with a strong tie to the family. She waited for the blonde-haired male to finish speaking before she herself took a deep breath and stood looking to those below.
"Good morning everyone." she said with an elegant voice, it held authority and strength within it. "My name is Alyssa Lilygate and I will be the one welcoming all prospecting magic knights to the exams this time." She watched each of them as she spoke "As you know we've been attacked by three archdaemons and we are going to be facing an even greater threat in the future." she knew many civilian royal knights were within the hopefuls below and they knew more than most what they were facing as they would have been training with their individual captains. "I will not lie and say that everyone is going to pass, but, that shouldn't stop you from giving your all as it is a calling that has brought you all here to protect your home, families and friends." she said to them all, it was truly respectable in her eyes.
"With that out of the way, I will now let you know what we are going to be doing this time around." she said her hand going to a group of magic knights at the side of differing ranks "We want to see what your magic can do individually, for those who require it you are able to request five magic knights to help you in this task" she then pointed to an unusual green and blue walkway that seemed to lead to a door, it looked completely out of place. "Next you will need to find at least one other person to take on the trial of attrition, this is a unique dungeon made by the wizard king himself and will put more than your magic to the test from my understanding." she informed them then moved both her hands to them "Your last test is not mandatory..." she paused for a second
"It is more extra credit if you want to show what you can do in a situation where your opponent will hit back. You will be able to fight against each other, if that doesn't tickle your fancy you can challenge a vice-captain or captain, whether they will accept is completely up to them however so please bear this in mind." she informed them "Now the welcomes are done and the tasks are explained, the rules are all that are left to explain." she said bringing her hands back "These are rather simple and a common sense thing." she said with a warm tone not believing anyone would be stupid enough to try anything with so many eyes watching. "First of all, no killing this is against the law and will end up with you being arrested on the spot." that was just the law of the land.
"The second rule is no maiming or attempting to maim another, by this we mean nothing that could leave permanent life-changing damage. Yes, we do have healers that can undo such damage on standby but it doesn't take away the severity of such actions. This will get you instantly disqualified, this is an exam and those you would be fighting against are potential squadmates and allies in the future so should be treated as such." she took another deep breath finding herself wondering how the hell the other captains done this "With this all this said, I wish everyone good luck in their trials." with everything said that was needed she sat down wondering how the examinees would take everything that was said to them.

[attr="class","julienglass2scroll"] Sol grinned slightly to himself as he arrived to the stadium in Kikka for the magic knight exams, he had to admit he was rather iffy about being back in the town after the last time he was here, the memorys of Kikka cloaked in shadows was still nightmarish to him but it wouldn't stop him from being here since he had been looking forward to these exams since he left the Silver Eagles all that time ago. The blood mage had been interested in a few squads since being a civilian again but one in particular stuck out to him,he had been met and befriended the mage Valo from Green Mantis and the fire mage had piqued his interest in the squad. It caught the mans eyes that it was a squad of second chances and that they didnt care about ones magic or appearance just in getting stronger and that just the kind of squad he was seeking. As he walked into the stadium he did a look over to make sure he had what he needed on him. [break][break] The man was garbed in his normal attire for when he had to go out into the wilds for missions or battle with black pants covering his legs with combat boots and a black sleeveless chinese shirt with white trim clading his upper body and it was finished with his katana strapped to his side like normal. As he reached the inner arena he stood among the others that had arrived and he smirked a bit as the leader of the Blue Roses stepped forward and started to explain how things would work, Sol had to admit that the woman was rather radiant and though his sensory was poor he could feel the strength she held and his face turned serious as she went on to say that she wouldnt lie and tell them that they all would pass which the red eyed noble understood already coming here. There was a chance he could get an offer from all the squads or gain bad luck and get no offers but it would all depend on how he performed. As Alyssa explained that the exam would be a combination of showing individual skills and going thru a custom made dungeon Sol felt more pressure for the dungeon then anything else. [break][break] As Alyssa also went over the rules Sol was not surprised at all that killing and Maiming was forbidden since he had gone thru the royal knight exams already and they were the same way so he knew to be careful with anything that could be considered close to either of those two. With everything said and done Sol glanced up at the Blue Rose captain and the others as well with a determined gaze before his eyes locked onto the captain of Green Mantis and he gave the barest of nods showing that his goal was his squad in particular before he steeled himself for the events that were to come. [break][break] An ornate katana with a twenty-four-inch (60 cm) blade. the sheath is made of what seems to be made of marble which has been carefully carved into and engraved with what looks like ruby, the base of the sheath has a gold kojiri. Just above the midway point, there seems to be a piece of onyx that has been set around the sheath, the top and bottom of the onyx seems to have the same white marble though it has been fashioned to look almost like fur or feathers. Connected to the onyx there seems to be additional ruby fastenings with ruby chains connecting one part to the next, near the top there is a ruby set in gold that leads off to three carmine red tassels. The handguard seems to be made out of gold leading into the hilt a hilt that is just under half the size of the blade that covered in lackered red marble before being surrounded in black ribbon with gold helm and small ruby beads at each crossing pattern of the ribbon. [break][break] The corrupting shadow was made using an unknown method outside of a certain noble family within Clover. This family has been shunned by many other noble houses because of their appearances and they macabre magic that they are born with so choose to remain in the forsaken region instead of the noble. Not a lot is known about this secretive family, it's hierarchy or its family mechanics and they aim to keep it that way, it allows them to continue doing what they are without too many questions being asked. One thing people will notice of this family is that when they pass their trial of adulthood they start wielding a weapon of some sort and how the dynamics of the family will change to that person. Normally, one would most likely not wander into the scene of an exam this often in so little time, yet it was the case for Griswold. Noticing a few others whom he had seen at the royal knights exams, he wondered if maybe the threat of the demons had pushed these people into giving up their existence as citizens, mercenaries or whatever they were before in order to become full-fledged magic knights on top of being royal knights. Griswold knew full well that the royal knights were not exactly a magic squad, which technically allowed for the formation of a rag tag bunch of mages from across the country who met … well, whatever the requirements had been for the royal knight exams to gather and take a shot at joining. It went without saying that the whole thing had not exactly been up to Griswold’s standards, as he had initially thought more of it.
He had imagined himself to be the weakest person to join up and most likely get told off for being too weak, but had somehow ended up being in the upper echelons of those that had signed up. Whether it had been his own shortcomings in thinking too much of it, or that the turn-out had just been that pathetic was something he could not know for sure. But at least here, none of that stuff really mattered. The magic knight exams were for people of all ages, or rather, starting at the age of fifteen, as that was when people ceremoniously acquired their grimoire and further unlocked their magic. And that was exactly what was being reflected here as he looked around, seeing people of varying ages and levels of power, some that he knew by face, some that he knew by name, and some that he had never seen before in his life.
When the moment came for one of the captains to take the stage and explain the rules, Griswold did not really hear anything that he had not exactly expected. Enjoying the part where they could fight people in order to show what they were worth, he looked around to see that there was not really anyone around to have a fair fight with. That was because people were either beneath him, or above him to the point where an actual fight to display ones abilities became rather… dull and pointless. None the less, the “trial of attrition” seemed like the kind of thing he might be able to have some fun with, so he had at least one thing to look forward to, depending heavily on whoever he was to be partnered with. Figuring things would probably work out just fine, he waited for the speaker to round things up and see what would happen next.
"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
Hans has come a long way in his life. From a stoic mercenary who only cared about getting paid to not just a Royal Knight wishing to serve the kingdom, but also someone who is striving to join an actual Magic Knight squad so that he can continue to serve Clover after the Royal Knights disband. He wanted to do more with his life, protect those who have pushed him to become the person he is now. It was a long and rocky process, but Hans could now say with confidence that he is a good man...someone who is capable of helping others, a shield for those to hide behind when they are in danger.
Of course, not everyone who knew who the dark mage is thought the same. When Hans was traveling through Kikka to get to the exam grounds, the man could feel the people of this town judging him. Some folks were glad to see the dark mage, thankful for his contribution with freeing the town from those daemons...but then there are the others, the ones who were not so forgiving. Many still blame him and some of the other mages for the damages done here, the very scars left behind in this town. Hans has never forgotten what he has done....especially to those poor children who were wrapped in the daemon's illusions. The dark mage still blames himself for this. If it weren't for his poor sensory, he might've been able to avoid this, avoid many terrible things that have happened during that time. But Hans knew he could not dwell on his blunders forever. He has made peace with this in a sense, and with his experiences in this very town, Hans was able to cover up that weakness through learning ki with his friend, Valo. He will make sure nothing like this will ever happen again.
Entering the exam ground for the very first time, Hans stood there and took a minute to take in the area. A part of his still couldn't believe that he was here...participating. Hans had tightened the grip he had on his black coat which was laying over one of his shoulders as he thought a little about it. The stoic man would be lying if he said he wasn't nervous, a little funny coming from someone like Hans. Still, he was able to keep his emotions in check externally, something he has years of practice with.
With that, the nightfall swordsman continued to walk, making his way to the others. He stood next to the others who were going to take the exams and looked up at where the captains were. He may not be looking in their direction, but Hans was 'observing' them through their ki. He recognized at least two of them. One of them was Sol if he remembers his name correctly, someone he saw during the Royal Knight Exams. Then there was Griswold, another Royal Knight that the dark mage had the pleasure of getting to work with in a dungeon. Looks like Hans wasn't the only Royal Knight to have the same idea, which only encouraged the guy's belief in him doing the right thing.
Hans' main focus was now on the captains, especially the Blue Rose captain who he had briefly got to meet during the spirit ball, and at the beach. She was giving a speech to the others which was a little inspiring at first before moving on to the tests. One of them will be a demonstration of magic, something that Hans didn't mind much of. She then brought up a dungeon which made the dark mage raise his brow. That will certainly be interesting. The final test which is optional according to her will be a spar, either between participants, or again a Captain, or Vice-Captain. From what Hans can sense from the other participants, the dark mage didn't really think it would be fair if any of them had to spar him, so he was considering not doing this segment, but then he focused his attention on one of the Captains, specifically the Purple Orca one. Torvald Sven. He was interested in seeing just how powerful and durable that man's magic really is...Unfortunately, Hans will never get the chance.
Though, out of all of the squads, the Purple Orcas were the ones that mostly had Hans' attention, especially after working a bit with the former captain, Jett, and meeting Charolette...or what was left of her during the daemon's rule over Kikka. To place himself into a squad positioned in this town was a bit of a gamble for Hans since people's views on him were mixed, but it could also serve as a good opportunity to get on their good sides again. Plus, with his magic, he felt that the Purple Orcas were the right squad for him. Perhaps he can carry on the legacy left behind by Jett and Charolette one day.

Verena had never once thought that she would be entering the Magic Knight exams as a Royal Knight; if she ever had the privilege of becoming a Royal Knight, she was certain that the honor would come only after proving herself as a Magic Knight, first. But she wasn't going to complain.[break][break]
The brunette listened as the Captain of the Blue Roses explained what all was going on. She had seen Vaile in the general area as well as Hans, one of which she was genuinely surprised to see here. However, she didn't wish to bother him quite yet, and instead listened to the explanation of the rules.[break][break]
For now, it was more important that she listen to the rules, making sure to pay especially close attention. She didn't exactly wish to spar against anyone; she knew that that simply wasn't what she was cut out for, so it was a relief to know that that wasn't required.[break][break]
The rules were pretty simple. She didn't like the idea of the dungeon, but that was neither here nor there. It was a bit too ominous for her taste, but she supposed that was what she was getting into.[break][break]
"Good luck" was expressed, and so it was simply a matter of things finally getting into work. Perhaps now was the time she'd speak to Hans and Vaile...
Post by Persephone on Jul 24, 2021 13:50:49 GMT -5
Persephone had dawned her eyes upon the field before it. She couldn't quite comprehend the idea that she was standing in front of as many well respected mages as the ones in front of her. Some seemed to be quite powerful and were likely to get in, while others seemed to be in the beginning stages of development like Persephone. She looked over towards Gris and she smiled a bit, hoping that she'd be able to make him proud. After all, their work together in previous jobs allowed her to feel ready to partake in the exam. Without his help, she was positive that she would've waited another cycle before trying her hands at the event. After all, most of the people before her were nobles, cocky ones at that. Most were there to prove themselves, and gain the extra benefits that came with being a magic knight.
Everyone was there for a different reason, and she understood that. Most wouldn't be able to relate to her own story, nor could she understand their goals in taking the exam. Yet, she did her best to not make any active preconceptions. All she could picture was her mother standing in the crowd, greeting everyone around her and making them feel warm and welcome. Even if she was a commoner, she knew how to work people and get on their good side. Persephone wished she had the courage to do what her mother could do, but instead she decided to stay relatively spaced out from the others within the arena. All she did was observe, and in that moment, she felt like she was being a creep. So, she quickly pointed her head towards the ground allowing her hair to fall over it. She felt the nerves snake through her body as she listened to the announcement coming from "Alyssa Lilygate."
She didn't know what to think of the woman, but she seemed formal more than anything. There wasn't any extra pizazz added into her speech, and Persephone was quite glad. The woman seemed down to earth, which is more than she could say about other magic knights in the area. Some were in the stands, pointing towards the recruits and laughing. She noticed their glares over her at some points too. She balled up her fists and felt her nails start to make indentions into her skin. She wanted the whole thing to be over so that she could do what she did best, controlling her magic. Her mother had always taught her that presentation was one of the most important things as a magic knight. You needed to be able to show off your magic to make a first impression. It was the first thing her mother had taught her, and while her mother mostly focused on creating floral shapes, Persephone adapted her technique into the butterflies she creates today. No matter how nervous she was now, she was going to make her mother proud.
