Approaching the forest, Griswold could tell that the people had put quite some time into decorating the place to look more spooky. Complete with a lot of fake cobwebs and gravestones, the thing that took his attention was the framework placed around the portion that had been decorated. If for no reason other than to keep people from wandering too far away from the beaten path, Griswold was a huge fan of this idea, granted that people would clean up all of the mess and remove the fence that boxed them into a specific area once all of this was over and done. But that was something he would worry himself over at a later point, because what he noticed when he gazed deeper into the forest was far more troubling than some fake cobwebs and fences. The undead were here.
Narrowing his eyes as he was about to approach them, his hand reached over his shoulder to get to the handle of the nearest of two swords. However, before he could barge in, someone was calling out to him as he heard the sound of footsteps running towards him along with it. Turning his head to see what was going on, he saw a woman with a rather strange button pinned onto her clothes that said “Zombie Hunt”. Wondering what all of this was about, he waited for her to catch her breath before she found the strength to speak to him now that he had come to a full stop and hadn’t exactly destroyed anything yet. Looking at one another momentarily as they both seemed rather puzzled as to the behavior posed by the other person, she then began her explanation.
“Please sir Griswold, don’t get ahead of yourself. These aren’t “real” zombies, they’re merely here for sport. This is the Zombie Hunt, haven’t you heard of it?”
Looking at the woman that had stopped him from dispatching just about every last undead in this neck of the woods, he could not help but thing that this was how some large scale issues were born. People creating stuff that perhaps they should not have created getting out of control just before a whole lot of people died. Figuring this would most likely not be the case now that he was here, and no damned zombie was going to best him in a fight, something like that would not happen here. So maybe he had been a bit too eager to get right into the thick of it without really looking around to see if maybe this was all just part of the decoration and the fences. As someone who had fought his fair share of ghouls, zombies and revenants already however, it was to be expected that he was going to be on his toes, especially when people claimed the spirits were all around them during this time of year.
“Hmm… my apologies, I guess all the talk about the “spirit world” and spirits walking among us must have riled me up a bit. But since I’m already here, how do I play this game?”
While not quite the kind of person who played any kind of games, whether they be along the lines of sports or more in the general area of blackjack, he had to say that he was warming up to the idea of killing magically sprouted zombies for points. As much as he hated people who hunted wildlife for sport, if they were to go against magically created enemies that did not feel fear or pain, he could get into it rather well. And seeing as how he was here now anyway, he might as well try his hand at a round of zombie hunting, granted he was told exactly how it worked and what the rules entailed. Getting into something blind simply was not his style after all.
“Well, you can choose to wait for other contenders to arrive for a more competitive game, or you could go at it now and go at it on your own.”
While the idea of just going at it alone was interesting, he could not help but think that this kind of thing might be more fun if there were others added into the mix. After all, cutting down a bunch of zombies as it were was going to be child’s play for him, so having other people out on the hunt and contend with was most likely going to be a lot more interesting. Whether he was going to be the best or if he was going to get outclassed, it did not really matter. As they were all just here to have fun and not focus on the work that occupied his mind day in and day out, it wasn’t something he needed to be the best at. So with that thought in mind, he had more or less already figured out his answer.
“Hmmm… I’ll wait.”

[attr="class","noahtext"] Noah was walking completely lost, as there were people everywhere and he had no sense of orientation in such crowded spaces. There were things he certainly wanted to do, and his initial idea was to join the pumpkin carving competition. That one seemed rather fun, and while it was a still competition Noah knew that he wouldn’t win anyway. The plans had changed as he got carried away and followed a bunch of people who seemed to be locals, and very eager to join the festivities. He has passed several different competitions, or events and a lot of very interesting food options. Seeing a huge poster of a costume competition just reminded him to double-check his backpack to see if the costume didn’t get wrinkled. As he did that, the group he was originally following has disappeared and Noah was left alone. Not giving up, he decided to just move ahead and try and find the first discipline that he could join. [break] It wasn’t long before he arrived near the forest that was located in the outskirts of Hage. The forest was heavily decorated, it seemed like Green Mantis knights and locals have put a lot of effort into making it look rather spooky, or haunted. His fairly fresh memories from Cursed Forest had come in a brief thought, and Noah had just hoped that this would be something less traumatic. Shortly after, a man that had very ragged clothes and white color on his face has approached him. Noah could immediately notice a small button that was pinned onto his shirt. “Zombie Hunt?” He asked confused, and the man just smiled and started explaining. “Yes sir! Part of the Spirit Festival traditions is our famous Zombie Hunt! In the scary forest behind me, there are a lot of magically brewed zombies that are ready to eat your brain. Will you fight them and protect the city? Or would you rather just look from afar and cheer on the heroes?” The man had obviously prepared this in advance, but it caught Noah off guard. [break] He wasn’t very keen on the idea of massacring a bunch of magically created zombies, however saying no ňwould make him look like a coward, which he probably was. But anyway, there was a small sense of pride that he had to defend, and therefore just smiled and continued. “I would very much like to join the Zombie Hunt. Where do I sign up?” Noah looked confident, but inside he was screaming. He knew that if some zombie would suddenly ambush him, he would scream like a little baby, and that was not how he wanted others to see him. The man just nicely gestured onto a road that was leading a little deeper into the forest and Noah just went ahead. [break] To his surprise, there was one familiar face already present. Griswold, Solarian Wolf whom he encountered on his travels before. Two of them were fighting the serpent slavers, or more like Griswold was doing the punches, and the young mage was mostly assisting. Noah smiled and waved. “Hello Griswold, it is nice meeting you here. Do you mind me joining you in the Zombie Hunt?” He asked politely, while still scanning him. He certainly had an interesting outfit, one Noah wouldn’t expect from someone like him. “I see you upgraded your wardrobe.” He attempted to make a friendly compliment, but he realized shortly after that it could sound like he was mocking him. He wanted to apologize, but also realized that the grand mage most likely didn’t care anyway. This could still be a nice chance to work more on his combat skills, as well as try and build more confidence in himself.

Summary: Came to the forest, talked to Griswold, and asked if he could join. [break]
Post by Dante Wilhelm on Oct 3, 2021 22:27:14 GMT -5
Dante walked along the path that led to the area set up for the zombie hunt. Rather than being set up in a graveyard, they had elected instead to input it into the surrounding forest area. Dante could see their reasoning behind it, as a forest would provide more places for the zombies to hide and spring out at people rather than in a graveyard where one would be able to see them coming from a distance. Even as he tried to keep his mind focused on the upcoming game, Dante could help but drift back to Alexander's words and just how he had managed to touch upon some of his insecurities. He knew that his grandfather would not have recommended him for the Golden Dawn if he didn't believe in his strength but there was still that small voice in his head that stated that a bastard like him wasn't good enough or deserved to be in the top squad of the Clover Kingdom. And as much as he tried to silence that voice over the years, it persisted, lingering in the back of his mind ready to voice itself whenever he had the slightest moment of doubt in himself.
Shaking his head, Dante tried to rid himself once more of these doubts only to notice that he had managed to arrive at the venue without notice, nor was he the only one. The slightly older-looking male looked familiar to him though Dante couldn't place him, due in part to not being able to see his face. The guy seemed to be getting a bit ahead of himself, reaching for one of his swords to attack the zombie but thankfully one of the attendants quickly stepped in and explained to him what was going on here. Dante wasn't sure if he would have been able to do anything to stop the guy, as the older man hadn't even hesitated to reach for his weapon at what he perceived to be a threat. That spoke of someone who was not only confident in his skills but also competent in combat. He wasn't sure if the zombies were golems or not but that could have ended badly if it turned out to just be regular employees in make-up."Wait, did she say Griswold? Isn't that the name of one of the royal knights?" Dante thought, glancing back over once again to see if what he heard was correct.
This time, he got to see the man's face, finding that it did match from what he knew of what the Royal Knight named Griswold looked like. "Wonder what he's doing all the way out here? I would have thought he'd have something better to do with his time." Dante thought as he walked over to the other attendant. "Excuse me miss, I have a few questions about the event if you don't mind answering for me" he asked, setting the club to lean against the desk. He wasn't sure if the games had been explained by the Barron but given that he hadn't been listening to the man that was a moot point. "Of course sir. What can I help you with?" she stated after a brief pause as she took a few seconds to take in his appearance. She seemed to be a bit taken back by his looks but to her credit, she managed to quickly compose herself as she answered his question. While that was happening, Dante noticed that another person had arrived; this new person being around the same age as him.
"How exactly does this game work? Are we allowed to use our own magic against the zombies or are we going to be given some sort of weapon to use against them? Also are these golems of some sort or actual people?" he asked, figuring that it'd be a good start. "We usually do the games in groups to make it more fun and competitive with the strength of the zombies varying depending on the strength of each member of the group. They'd never be stronger than the strongest person in the group and vice versa for the weakest. There are only about 5 of them per group and they're made of mana so you don't have to worry about accidentally injuring anyone. Do you have any other questions" the attendant asked with a gentle smile. "No, that pretty much answered any questions I had, thank you." Dante stated, giving her a smile in return before picking the club back up and moving to the side as he processed the rules.
Given that Griswold had elected to wait, it was clear that he didn't mind going with a group and any group that had him in it was bound to contain a few powerful zombies given his royal knight's status. On the one hand, he knew without a shadow of a doubt that he wasn't going to be able to do much of anything to the most powerful zombies and be pretty much useless on that end. On the other hand, though, this was a perfect time for him to not only test his capabilities but to also see just how strong a royal knight was with his own eyes. With that thought in mind, Dante walked back over to the booth, letting the worker know that he was going to be signing up to join the group that was forming. Seeing as there was no one else here yet, Dante decided that he might as well take this opportunity to introduce himself and make a few connections. "Hello, I'm Dante Wilhelm, a recent member of the Golden Dawn squad. It's nice to meet a loyal knight like yourself Mr. Griswold and I look forward to competing with you in this game." he stated, holding a hand out in greeting, noticing that Griswold was slightly taller than him.
Word Count: 991 Total Word Count: 2080 Came from main thread.
“Greeting, it’s good to see the both of you here, and right on time. I was about to take part in this… zombie hunt game, but wished for some competition. I imagine the two of you will do your best to make this fun. And yes, I have indeed ... adjusted my wardrobe as I was informed it was mandatory.”
Speaking as he shook the hand of the knight he had not yet met prior to this point in time, he imagined the other two knew of one another as they were in the same squad these days. The Golden Dawn, one of the squads that was perhaps the most different from the one he was in, along with the Silver Eagles, but nevertheless a squad Noah had claimed he wished to change at some point. Change to make them more welcoming towards peasants and aim to do more within the forsaken region, rather than the noble region. Whether he would actually succeed in this or if he was just going to be another that started out with these intentions but eventually just got swallowed up into the group to become yet another cog in what Griswold considered to be a dysfunctional machine remained to be seen. So as he accepted the two knights into this little game they were about to play, the people involved with the game used their combined magic to form a magic circle in the air above the game area.
Stating all of their names as floating letters and numbers appeared hovering in the air, it was as if this were to be some magical scoreboard that kept track of who killed which zombies. Truth be told, this seemed like a rather inventive way for people to use their magic, as it was one of those ways where supplementary magic just gained an entirely new meaning. Also stating a total number of zombies, which currently stated “10”, Griswold momentarily frowned as that seemed like no fun at all. When there were at least three contestants, having just ten zombies meant that it would be over in the blink of an eye, and that did not even seem like it would be worth his or their time. And while he was not aware if it was within the capacity of the overseers to perform such a feat, Griswold would really like to see that number doubled or even tripled if it were at all possible.
“If you would be so kind, please triple the amount of zombies, and make sure to provide various levels of difficulty. We’re all magic knights here, and there are three of us after all.”
Looking at him for a moment to see if he was joking or not, the fact that Griswold’s face did not shift from the usual stoic expression that at times seemed locked on there, the overseers got together to momentarily discuss things before giving in to the demands. Or rather, the request, as he wasn’t exactly holding anyone at knifepoint when he stated his wishes. So when the initial ten zombies that were roaming the area were increased to thirty, Griswold could tell using his extrasensory capabilities that there were indeed a bunch of a higher grade and a bunch of lower grades, more or less accommodating everyone currently in this group. While they would likely only be able to take out a bunch of them, Griswold should be able to take on every kind of undead that was walking about here. After all, if there was one out there that could knock him into the dirt with a single strike, that meant the overseers had greatly overestimated his abilities.
But seeing as that was not something he was counting on as few people had ever really seen what he was truly capable of in a life-or-death kind of situation, aside from maybe Verena and Noah, they would likely have kept their expectations low when bringing about their zombies. Waiting for things to kick off, he looked around at the other two contestants as if making sure they were both ready. Once the signal was given, Griswold waited momentarily, locating the closest zombies. And yes, he meant “zombies”, plural. Sensing that there were plenty of solitary zombies roaming in this neck of the woods, he believed that he would be able to get the most points if he could take out a small group all at once. But seeing as how he had given himself the handicap of not using his magic and sticking to melee combat, it was going to be a great exercise to see how much he had grown in terms of physical skill. So as soon as he found exactly such a group not too far away, he darted off.
Moving at a set speed of sixteen meters per second while unaided by magic, he knew that focusing on his surroundings through the use of Ki was fairly difficult even after having mastered it for the most part, thus being the reason why he adjusted his speed to not run right into a tree during a moment of split focus, as that would make for a rather silly sight. Upon reaching the nearest zombie in the group, he had already established that a blow to the head would more than likely be enough to take it out. So as his fist struck the skull of the zombie, it felt almost as if the contents of the head exploded before the zombie evaporated. Likely being the weakest in the group, Griswold moved on to the next, which he struck in the chest with his fist hard enough to also break it. However, when a stronger zombie lashed out at him, Griswold went on the defensive, using an evasive maneuver to get around him while reaching for his right hip with his left hand, and reaching over his shoulder with his right hand.
As he spun to evade the initial attack of the stronger zombie, he used the momentum of the spin to toss the dagger he held at his waist into a weaker zombie nearby while using the last bit of speed gained from it to bring his sword from the scabbard on his back onto the zombie with a downward strike from his right. Being more than enough to deal with the two zombies, which included what was likely the most powerful one in the group, only a single one remained before the pack was taken out. As it did not move very fast in comparison to Griswold, he had some time to look over to the scoreboard to see exactly how many points he had earned so far.
As it turned out, the scoreboard only counted points for the one that did the killing, thus keeping track of who did what and creating a list to use in order to determine who had been the winner at the end. And while that made a lot of sense to him, there was one thing he considered to be odd, this being the amount of zombies remaining. It only stated a single number, but said nothing about the grade of those particular zombies, meaning there was no telling how many of the remaining twenty six were junior grade, intermediate grade etcetera. But being quite content with his starting score, his training session, or rather the zombie hunt would then continue as he made his way to the zombie in front of him, his blade at the ready to dispatch that one as soon as he reached it.
[attr="class","noahtext"] After the third participant arrived, Noah didn’t really pay attention to them from the start. Only after Dante mentioned recently being accepted into Golden Dawn, young mage turned his head quickly. Smiling and waving a little he just spoke. “Hello, my name is Noah and I don’t believe we have met before, anyway I am also a recent recruit of Golden Dawn.” Noah had already forgotten about a squad meeting that had taken place recently because he preferred to meet people of the squad in more personal settings – whether it was a mission in the north with Verena Reinsberg, or even slaying some zombies. It just made more sense and it felt like the most attention would be directed towards Griswold anyways. Noah has seen what the solar mage is capable of. Seeing a fully grown Kraken being fried up in a miniature sun is not something one would forget easily anyway.[break] As the competition was about to start, Noah already gave up any chances of winning. The least he could hope for was Griswold noticing how he has improved with his magic, but he wouldn’t say it out loud. Seeing the table pop up, the young mage got scared for a second as this was something he hasn’t encountered before. It had all their names written along with information about the zombies. It was fascinating and scary at the same time. Noah hasn’t mentioned his name loudly so far, how would they know that? His paranoia got disturbed when Solarian Wolf asked for the number of zombies to be tripled. Of course, he would do that. Thankfully the majority of Noah´s spells were based on an area of effect basis. He wasn’t very competitive either, but when he was the enthusiasm of solar mage, something had motivated him.[break] The fact that he didn’t use his magic was surprising, as that was something Noah was somehow familiar with. Gravity mage has also low-key expected his solar spells to illuminate the darkness of the forest because his poor sensory skills didn’t allow him to exactly pinpoint the locations of the zombies, or even tell if they were in groups or solitary. In a short moment, Noah got distracted by the construct that was announcing the scores, it seemed that Griswold had made so much in such a little time. It probably made sense that the numbers of zombies were increased, and it urged Noah to start something too. [break] Being completely unaware of the surroundings, he could only roughly tell where the trees were. There was no way any zombie would be getting close to him, that would mean a loss, or even worse, him crying like a little baby white screaming Griswold´s name for assistance. “Let´s join before he kills all of them.” He would say to Dante, who probably was already eager to start his hunt anyway. Noah has slowly walked forward, into the area where strange growls were heard. By the sound, he would guess there were at least three or four zombies which seemed good enough. Noah softly lifted his left hand, and while everything was still covered in darkness, those with satisfactory sensory skills could see a ball of gray mana forming above his hand. Quickly, the mana has spread through all the area around him, and small pieces of land, such as branches or pebbles started vibrating and levitating. It didn’t take long before they all started furiously rotating around Noah, making it a little harder for the zombies to actually approach him. [break] There was no way to tell the level of the zombies, and therefore it was more than possible that some of them could break through this spell without any problems. The sound of shrieks and other weird noises that zombies would make was getting more and more intense, it meant that they were getting closer. Finally, he could see a group of three zombies. Once they noticed Noah, they started running towards him, stretching their arms as if they wanted to grasp his head. This creeped him out of a second, but the stress quickly disappeared when two of them got hit by branches that his spell was currently manipulating. [break] Itself, the braches would hardly do any harm. Thanks to the fact that they were fully covered by gravity mana, it increased their impact, turning them into dangerous weapons. After all, it wasn’t really the branches hitting, but rather his own mana. The zombies had shrieked for one last time before they evaporated. That was extremely odd, he wouldn’t expect them to evaporate, but it did certainly seem like a more humane way to get rid of them. Noah took a second to turn onto the screen to see the current score. [break] “Junior: 3 | Intermediate: 2 | Senior: 0 | Grand: 1 | 24 Zombies Remain”[break] That was good, nowhere near satisfactory, but there was still one more zombie to go. After seeing its companions evaporate, it only seemed to gain more anger, as it rapidly started running towards the spell. The zombie already saw what the spell did. Was it not intelligent enough? Thanks to the large area of effect, Noah could notice that even after being hit by the spell, it didn’t stop. That made him panic for a moment. This wasn’t planned, but he quickly jumped back and interrupted the spell instantly as he needed to focus on avoiding the beast first. [break] Thankfully, it wasn’t very swift and therefore even Noah´s clumsy moves were able to dodge it. The zombie was damaged, it obviously took some damage, and maybe that was the key. The young mage quickly pointed his finger into an area behind the zombie, and in a short moment, the zombie started resisting. “Encompassing Presence.“ It probably had no idea what was there to resist, however a small ball, roughly thirty centimeters in diameter has formed in the area. It started sucking up everything within its reach with uncompromising force. The zombie made some unholy screams, before finally evaporating. Noah took a deep breath, being somewhat satisfied with his current progress, and turned back to look onto the board of scores. [break] “Junior: 3 | Intermediate: 2 | Senior: 1 | Grand: 1 | 23 Zombies Remain”[break] That certainly didn’t seem that bad. There were still a lot of zombies to slay before the game would win, but this first encounter had motivated him and for the first time, he even started thinking about winning. Maybe he could beat even Griswold if he played it strategically. He knew that Solarian Wolf would take on the strongest of the enemies to have interesting combat. There was no way Noah would be fighting a grand ranked zombie, it would only exhaust his mana and made him unable to kill more zombies. There was surely some way to play strategically, mainly if Griswold would just stick to melee combat. It was as if he was giving the two mages of Golden Dawn some chance to try and match him.

Elemental Type: Gravity Rank & Spell Type: Intermediate | Attack Creation | Restraining Range & Speed: 40 meters | 10 m/s | AoE 20 meters Mana Cost: 24 | 12 Stats Effected: -5 m/s Speed, Control -5 Applicable Perks: World Binding Description: This spell is activated by Noah pointing his hand onto a place in his sight and saying the name of the spell. After that a small orb of his mana is released onto that place and this orb will attempt to draw in everything within the range of 20 meters that is lighter than 600 lbs and no bigger in size than 6 meters. Due to the sheer force of gravity, anything affected with this spell will take intermediate rank of damage in form of moderate bone cracks or minor breaks, as well as become restrained, having their movement speed and control stat lowered. This spell is invisible, as long as the enemy doesn’t have 30 sensory. This spell can be broken via the according Restraining rules, having lowered durability because of it being an AoE. Based on the ammo rules, Noah can create multiple instances of the orbs as long as he has needed control to do so, however only one of the orbs remains AoE.
Elemental Type: Gravity Rank & Spell Type: Intermediate | Attack Creation, Sensory Range & Speed: 40 meters | 10 m/s | AoE 20 meters Mana Cost: 24 | 12 Stats Effected: Power +4 Applicable Perks: Careful Weaving, Knock-back Description: Noah has gotten more confident and fluent in his gravity magic, allowing him to utilize it in a rather simple but effective manner. This spell is activated by him lifting his right hand up, releasing his mana into the surrounding area. The spell can affect every smaller object on the battlefield such as pebbles or smaller rocks, branches etc. within the spell´s range. At the same time, Noah creates an naturally invisible orb from his mana above his head that is one feet long in diameter. This orb then causes all the affected objects to rotate around Noah, damaging anything that comes to their path. After hit, enemy takes an intermediate damage in form of bone cracks or minor breaks and is also knocked back four meters and five more meters per every 10 power Noah has, thanks to the fact that the small objects are covered in his magic and therefore applying a rather strong force onto the object itself. If enemy has over 30 sensory, they are able to see the orb above Noah´s head, rotating heavily in the same direction as all the objects. They could also see that the objects affected by this spell are covered with gravity mana. Thanks to the Careful Weaving, Noah is able to ignore one person from the spell, as well as any additional allies with the proper ammo rules.

Griswold turned out to be a rather nice and pleasant person, not even hesitating to shake his hand. It was refreshing to have someone who didn't even blink an eye at his birthmark. "Thank you. I'm not sure how much competition that I'll end up being for someone as strong as you but I'll definitely aim to make it as fun as possible." Dante stated as he shook the hand of the older male. His grip was strong and firm, as was expected, and Dante made sure to do the same; wanting to leave a good first impression on the man. Team ups different squads was a common thing, especially for dungeon explorations and he wanted to come across as someone who was competent and could hold their own in a fight, something that would hopefully be displayed during the zombie hunt.
It was as he was chatting with Griswold that the other participant in the games walked over and introduced himself as a fellow member of the Golden Dawn. Dante mentally chastised himself for not recognizing him sooner as well as largely ignoring him in favor of speaking to Griswold. He needed to work on not getting so distracted when around strong magic knights that he ignored everyone else around him. "Hey. I'm sorry that I didn't come to greet you earlier. Guess that I was a bit too excited to do this event and meet a Royal Knight. No, I don't believe that we've met before, I've recently joined the Golden Dawn so don't really recognize all of my squad members yet. I'm Dante, Dante Wilhelm." he stated as he turned around, waving back as he walked over, smiling back at the friendly greeting.
They waited for another few minutes to see if anyone else was going to show up, but it appeared that the festival-goers interest lied in other events. "Guess it's just going to be us 3 then." he muttered as he watched the employees pool their mana together causing a magic circle to appear in the sky above them. "Pretty fancy set up." he muttered under his breath, glancing up at the screen. "Grand rank huh? Can't really say I'm all that surprised to find out that he's that powerful." Dante thought, glancing over at the Royal Knight before turning back to the screen. "10 huh. Means there's probably going to be about 2 of each type out there Dante wasn't sure how he'd fare against the intermediate zombies let alone the higher rank ones but he would still at least try, curious to know where he stacked up against them.
Seeing as the competition was no doubt about to start, Dante began to stretch wanting to be sure that he wouldn't pull a muscle with all the running that he would be doing in the forest. It was as he was doing this that Griswold's voice could be heard asking for an increase in both number and difficulties surprising everyone there. "Well this just made things a little more interesting" the lava-user muttered under his breath, a grin starting to appear on his face. This was a great opportunity to test himself against stronger opponents with the most minimal amount of danger to his safety. Adrenaline was beginning to course through his body, getting his blood pumping as he bounced on the balls of his feet, eager to get out into the forest and start killing some zombies. Giving a nod to the employees, Dante signaled that he was ready to begin the game.
Dante barely had time to think on where he wanted to go once the game started when Griswold sprinted ahead of him easily outdoing any speeds that Dante could must. The royal knight seemed to have homed in on a group of zombies as after a few minutes of being gone, the board above them announced that 2 junior rank, an intermediate and a grand rank zombie had all been slain. "Holy shit." was all that he would manage to say before Noah would begin to walk forward into the woods, calling out to Dante to join. "Right...right", shaking his head and lightly slapping his cheeks, Dante would move into the woods, heading off to the left away from the other 2 for the moment.
It was pretty silent in the forest with Dante not hearing anything except for the sound of his own footsteps on the dead leaves but he was still keeping his eyes open for any sign of movement or listening to groaning sounds. He wasn't sure how far into the forest that he would have to go and a quick glance up at the scoreboard told him that Noah had managed to find his own group of zombies; killing an intermediate and junior rank. Given that there should be an even amount of each, this mean that out of the 7 total junior rank, there's were only about 3 left for Dante to face. He would prefer to get one of those first as it would give him a better idea of what he was capable of but the odds weren't in his favor at the moment so he'd simply have to hope for the best.
Hearing the sound of footsteps and groaning, Dante quickly moved to hide behind a tree, peaking out to see what had made that sound. There was a pair of zombies currently headed his way with no real discernable features to let him know their strength level. For all that he knew, these could be Grand rank though he didn't believe that the people running this event would set such powerful zombies to be run into so soon so it was likely that they were weaker. How weak, Dante would only be able to find out once he actually engaged them in combat, "No time like the present then." Gripping his club, Dante sprung out from behind the tree, grimoire already out and flipping through pages before landing on a ranged spell, immediately calling it out while he had the element of surprise on his side. "Lava Creation Magic: Ruby Hornet Swarm!" As the name suggested, a small swarm of ruby-shaped hornets sprung out from a magic circle in front of him before striking the zombie on the left, riddling it with holes and easily killing it.
"Guess that was just a junior rank then. Dante thought as he continued moving, swinging his kanabō into the body of the second zombie, knocking it to the floor before bringing the club down onto its head killing it as well. With that done, Dante moved back into the woods, keeping, and eyes, and ears open for any signs of more zombies to face.
-Shook Griswold's hand and introduces self to Noah, apologizing for not doing so earlier -Pumped to gank some zombies -surprised at how fast Griswold is physically and at killing zombies -separates from Noah and manages to find and kill 2 junior rank zombies

Name of Spell: Lava Creation Magic: Ruby Hornet Swarm
Elemental Type: Lava (Ruby Oddity) Rank & Spell Type: Junior & Attack Creation Range & Speed: 25 meters & 10 m/s Mana Cost: 10 | 5 Stats Effected: +4 to Power Applicable Perks: Battle Knight Description: Dante gathers his magic, forming a ruby colored lava circle directly in front of him as he states his spell’s name. Lava rubies carved into the shapes of hornets then shoot out, attempting to strike the target that’s in the path of the direction of the circle. Following the ammo rules, Dante can create a number of additional hornets based on his control stat to launch at a target. Attempting to cause Junior rank damage, of minor cuts and bruises, 1st-degree burns, and minor 2nd-degree burns. The hornets are only 1 meter in size on average but when focusing can be made to be 10 cubic meters in size.
Taking a moment for himself to just pick up the dagger he had thrown into one of the zombies a bit further away from him, he ran the blade by the outline of his gloves to wipe off the dirt and filth. With his dark blade still in hand, eager to rend and tear, Griswold put the dagger back into the scabbard hanging from his hip. Aside from being a useful tool when out in the wilds, the weapon itself was not overly powerful, but it did the job that it had been given well at all times. Both sensing and seeing how the other two mages had gone at it, Griswold held Feardèanamh as he wandered over to the nearest zombie. Judging by how it radiated mana at a low extent, he could tell that it was merely one of the weaker ones, which was not exactly the kind of thing he was interested in.
As it lashed at Griswold with its hand, he merely blocked the attack with his forearm, barely feeling it at all due to the density of his mana skin that had tanked blows from far more powerful opponents. Swiping the zombie’s hand away with his own as he punched it in the face, the lesser zombie fell over and disappeared, proving on the scoreboard exactly what he already knew in that it was yet another junior. As he did not want to take away too much from the zombies the others could realistically kill, as they would likely be having some issues with the seniors, let alone the more grand ones, he focused his extrasensory abilities to locate these more powerful ones. If one thing stood out, it was that these did not exactly group up as much, deviating from the groups that formed by walking away from the lessers that flocked to it.
Reaching over his shoulder and grabbing his second sword, Disglair, both of his blades were ready to destroy his enemies. Beginning to move at the top of his physical speed so as to fish out some of the stronger zombies without really touching the lesser ones. Knowing quite well the limitations set upon each of the two swords, he used them in varying strikes and swipes, cutting a swath through the higher ranks, which soon became apparent on the scoreboard too. The fun bit about this training exercise, or rather this game, was that these zombies seemed to copy the behavior of actual zombies. At least, as much as these people knew about them, which was actually rather on point. That said, had they decided to go with a different kind of undead, this would more than likely have turned into a far more difficult encounter altogether.
Of the creatures he had encountered up until now, the undead could be some of the most ravenous adversaries out there, as each different kind had their own deviations leading into weaknesses and strengths. In this particular game, the stronger zombies simply hit harder and could receive more punishment, which made them quite easy to deal with. However, had they been ghouls, they would have been faster, would have had more natural weapons and would likely not have been brought down even close to as easy as the zombies. Then there were wights, which were also dangerous creatures that possessed features of both zombies and ghouls, which made them more dangerous than zombies and smarter than ghouls. And finally, there were the wraiths and revenants, which were just in a league of their own even among undead as they possessed the unnatural ability to command others and phase through solid objects and some magics.
Thinking to himself as his body had just been reaving zombies on auto pilot, he made sure to save his left handed strikes for the lesser of the two zombies, using the right for the strongest he encountered. If for no other reason than the fact that his left sword was less durable than the right, he might as well have switched them around due to his ambidextrous hand-to-hand skills, which had been drilled into him since he was roughly eight years old. Coming to a full stop after dispatching a while lot of zombies with surprisingly little effort as a result of his physical training and still growing mastery over his swords, he did one last check to make sure he had taken out all of the grand zombies and reduced the overall numbers of the senior zombies. Believing the two other mages were best served handling the junior and intermediate zombies, they should have been fine now, or so he thought to himself as he looked up to the scoreboard.
[attr="class","noahtext"] Noah couldn’t understand what was happening on the “battlefield” as it was dark. He heard terrible screams, which he instantly linked to Griswold. From what he could see so far, the man wasn’t shy of brutality and the young mage managed to feel a little empathy for those zombies already. He kept telling himself that they don’t have feelings, and are in fact magically brewed for entertainment purposes, but it was still weird. Once all the screams have stopped, Noah already knew the result of those encounters and checking the scoreboard had only confirmed that. [break] Of course, he took care of so many grand ranked zombies at once. It was probably for the best, as both Noah and Dante would struggle with them, but gravity mage still felt this weird defeat. Which was weird, he wasn’t competitive by any nature, but seeing that he managed to take out so many in such a short time was just a little demotivating. Noah started to do some calculations, as the operator of the game initially explained. With Solarian Wolf taking care of six grand ranked zombies, it probably meant that there were none of those left anymore on the battlefield. That was a good thing to know because even if Noah had lost, he at least didn’t have to worry about being overpowered by a zombie that was way above his level. He needed to plan the rest, he naturally wanted Dante to fight as much as possible, only managing to see bits of his fight thanks to the shining lava element. Young Wilhelm was certainly enjoying the game, and maybe Noah could do that too. [break] His next plan was brilliant, thanks to overthinking everything, he figured out that there were most likely two more senior ranked zombies and six of the intermediate ones. He wasn’t sure about the junior ones, but leaving them to Dante seemed like the right way to go on about this. If only there was a way to tell the ranks of zombies apart. It also seemed quite empty right now, did the zombies get scared and surrendered after the slaughter? Most likely no, but it was also certain that Griswold probably wouldn’t attempt to continue killing them, as there were very few of them left. Knowing where Dante approximately was, Noah started running as far away from him as possible, since he didn’t want to hit his squadmate with one of his spells. There was another issue, how to get the zombies to come?[break] The answer didn’t wait for long, as two of them started to appear out of nowhere, running from some bushes. They were approximately ten meters away from Noah, and that seemed like a good distance to keep. After all, this wasn’t enough and he needed more of them. His plan was to gather as many of them and just start layering his area of effect spells in order to defeat them all at once. Maybe it wasn’t as impressive, but probably the last thing he wished to accomplish right now was to at least see all those numbers change at once. Noah kept the distance, running around the trees in the forest, making sure that he was seen. With this, he would attempt to attract as many zombies as possible, and once that was done, it was time for some of his restraint magic which he has gotten way better at recently. [break] “Hereeee.” He kept on screaming on repeat, as he ran through the woods. It all seemed to go according to his plan, two more zombies had joined the group that was trying to hunt him down. Keeping the distance wasn’t apparently a problem at all, after all their feet were… kind of busted and they were hardly running. His mood was starting to rise up, becoming more optimistic, this all seemed to be working out, and according to his calculations, there were three more zombies. Young mage also finally got to use his limited sensory skills, while he couldn’t exactly tell the power level of those zombies, he knew which ones were higher ranked. Two of them were present, and that would mark the last of the senior zombies on the battlefield. [break] “Crap!” Noah had stumbled on the ground, some unlucky root just happened to be in his way. Falling on the ground with full power, he would find his face covered in dirt and grass, quickly pulling some of the bigger pieces out of his hair. It is not sure if it was that self-centered, or just distracted, but he seemed to completely miss the fact that what he stumbled upon wasn’t a root but in fact two pairs of hands that certainly didn’t belong to anyone who was alive. “No, not like this.” He spoke with pity, it seemed like his plan managed to fall apart in such a small amount of time. Quickly trying to shrug those hands-off, two more zombies had made their way from underground. This was sadly how he imagined the whole thing would go, and it just happened at the exact point when he was getting some motivation built up. Zombies that were rushing towards him seemed to be still in an okay distance, and this was probably a good time to improving. There was one more zombie that joined them, and that was exactly what he needed anyway.[break] Trying to search for anything that he could use on the ground, there was a rock that seemed rather sturdy. If it wasn’t, he would make it. Quickly pointing a finger at it, he would send out a small orb of his mana that had instantly attached to the rock, thanks to the small distance. Wasting no time, it was as if Noah was slapping the air, but in fact, the rock that he had previously used his gravity magic on was doing the exact same motion, shooting straight through the skulls of two beasts that were restraining it. It was as if those skulls were made of cotton because the rock flew right by, and some terrible screaming happened before two of them would just turn into dust or whatever that was. [break] Noah quickly jumped back on his feet, and he was quite slow. The zombie pack had managed to surround him. They looked quite happy from their catch, or that’s what Noah had at least told himself since the zombies didn’t really have any expressions. Before they would ambush him, he felt like he was surrounded by a pack of wolves. They were just starting as if they were going to eat him. Maybe he should have asked that before because until now he didn’t realize that someone could have just been defeated. There wasn’t much more time anyway, and this was actually an ideal position, him being in the center was good, he was immune to his spells anyway. Quickly pointing his hand upwards, he decided it was time to get rid of the weaker ones first. “Gravity Magic: Encompassing Presence.” A small orb of his mana has started to form. Zombies probably had no idea, but it was radiating with grey color as it rose up a little but not too much. In an instant, it started to apply a heavy gravity force, sucking up everything within the twenty meters inside of it – which was just a couple meters above where Noah currently was. [break] The spell worked like wonders, three of the zombies had no chance of resistance, as they all got sucked in and before even getting to the orb, they turned into the dust which fell directly onto Noah. He tried to ignore it, and he had a hard time doing so. Thankfully, there was another portion of the plan to be executed. The orb he just created had started sucking everything, not only zombies. Smaller, and even medium-sized trees were swallowed by it, ultimately getting rid of everything that came in contact with the spell and had appropriate weight. Noah quickly interrupted the spell, as the two zombies that left were resisting it. They obviously took some damage. He could see them struggling but they didn’t get sucked in. Noah swiftly lifted his second hand up, to prepare for another spell. “Gravity Magic: Pressure Chamber.” With this, instead of one medium-sized orb, four smaller ones would form. [break] They had the same color of mana as the previous spell, however, Noah had just spread them to cover his surroundings, that is him and the two zombies. Their speed was reduced, which managed Noah to perform this second spell without any interruption. Four orbs quickly created a link between each other, in a form of a very thin wall, naturally invisible. After that, the zombies started to feel just a higher amount of pressure, and it didn’t take long before they turned to dust as well. Noah quickly canceled the spell and started breathing heavily. The worst part was that it wasn’t the spells that exhausted him, but rather the fact that he had to run for such a long time. With a sense of accomplishment, he would walk a little to get a view on the scoreboard. [break] Junior: 6 | Intermediate: 7 | Senior: 8 | Grand: 6 | 3 Zombies Remain

After he finished off the 2 junior rank zombies, Dante took a moment to listen to his surroundings as he caught his breath. He hadn't been exactly silent while he was attacking them so it was possible that either the others or more zombies had heard the commotion and come investigate though that didn't seem to be the case. He assumed that this was a pretty spacious location to have the zombie hunt as it would give each of the competitors a chance to score points, but they're still had to be a limit to how much of the forest was used for this since the employees wouldn't want to run the risk of someone getting lost or stumbling into an unsafe area. This was still the forsaken realm after all, so there had to be some dangers out in these woods that civilians could run into. The woods were just as silent as they had been when he had first entered them at the start of this game; not even a single insect could be heard around him. It made the silence a bit eerie and unnerving though Dante tried not to let it bother him too much as he still needed to go hunt down what was left of the zombies before Griswold or Noah wiped them all out.
Hearing nothing making his way towards him, Dante took off in a light jog heading deeper into the woods following the direction that the previous zombies had come from. He figured that there was most likely some portion of the woods that they all originated from so if he could find that, then he would end up finding any stragglers leftover if they hadn't moved too much. As he moved, he kept glancing upward at the scoreboard to keep track, which is why he noticed when 11 zombies were knocked out in quick succession. He figured it was most likely Griswold's doing as he was the only one who Dante felt would not only be able to take out so many at once but also stood a chance of defeating the Grand and Senior ranks zombies with ease. "So this is what a Royal Knight is capable of then." he thought with a look of awe on his face, not breaking stride once. This truly put into perspective just how strong Grand rank mages were though Dante wished that he could have at least seen some of the battles for himself so that he knew how much he needed to grow.
A flash of light drew his attention again though it also highlighted 3 zombies further ahead, causing Dante to quickly move behind a tree as silently as he could. Glancing up, he saw that a further 7 zombies had been defeated, these being the remainder senior and intermediate ones. He figured that it was Noah this time as Griswold didn't seem to be the type to want to hog all the battles himself from what Dante had briefly seen. With some quick math, he figured that these 3 were the last remaining zombies and were most likely all junior rank making Dante pout a bit as he wanted to test himself against at least 1 stronger zombie to see how he stacked up. Sadly there wasn't anything that he could do about that so he'd just have to try again should another group end up doing the zombie hunt. Observing from behind his tree, Dante began to formulate a plan of attack as he watched the zombies, noticing that one of them seemed to move differently than the other two. "That one is most likely one of the stronger rank zombies so I have to be careful. Given how the rules that the front desk lady said, I have to assume that it's an intermediate one from how the numbers were so I can't just rush out like last time." he thought before an idea came to mind, causing a grin to form on his face.
Dante began gathering his mana before calling out the name of his spell as lava spewed out from his hands, beginning to form into an eastern dragon. All 3 of the zombies turned to look at it, giving Dante the opening that he needed to rush out from the opposite side of the tree, closing the distance between him and the group and swinging the club in his hand into the head of one of the junior rank zombies knocking it clean off. The body had hardly begun to dissipate before Dante was swinging again, catching the body of the other junior rank zombie and knocking it into a tree where is slumped down dead. Unfortunately, he had overextended himself with his follow-up attack, leaving him wide open to the intermediate zombie which lashed out at him with a swipe, slashing at his unprotected arm and landing a hit.
"Heh. You really shouldn't have done that." he muttered as Dante began to feel his blood pumping as he registered the pain from the attack. Thankfully his mana skin had protected him from receiving any actual damage from that attack so all it had served to do was simply irritate him more as well as serving to increase his strength. "I know you're not actually real or can understand but you should know. I get stronger the more you injure me." he said as a bloodthirsty smile came on his face as he gripped his kanabō harder, joined by his golem which had finished forming as well. This was not a match that he foresaw himself losing at all and if Griswold or Noah happened to stumble upon him, he'd ask them not to interfere, waiting to defeat this one himself and prove his strength.
Element: Lava (Ruby Oddity) Rank: Junior Size: 3m Mana Cost: 10 | 5 Type of Golem: Balanced Applicable Perks: Description: Dante’s mana gathers into the earth around him, whereafter verbalizing the spell, the lava surges from his hands and shapes itself into an eastern dragon. Due to his ruby oddity, all of his golems give off a red sheen due to the lava circulating inside of them. They have the hardness of rubies but still maintain the heat and burning aspect of lava. Dante mainly uses them as distractions or to give himself openings to strike his opponents. He can also ride his golems for transportation. Dante is able to create one (1) golem per ten (10) control he has at once, maxing out at five. The golem is capable of dealing out Junior rank damage, minor cuts and bruises, 1st-degree burns, and minor 2nd-degree burns.
For what it was worth, hunting these zombies in the way that he had had been quite a lot of fun, which was not something he would really admit to, not even to himself in most cases. Not being the type for having fun as there were always things out there in the world that needed to be rectified, whether they were being caused by humans or by monsters, it wasn’t all that hard to believe that he was just incapable of having fun at all. But that was obviously not through, because at the end of the day, he was the same as every other elf, dwarf or human when it came to emotions and other workings of the mind. Looking at the scoreboard to see how the remaining zombies were being taken out, he figured he had done the right thing by taking out the strongest of them the way that he did.
Putting his swords back into their scabbards one after the other, it was clear to see that there would soon not be a single zombie left, meaning the contest was pretty much over. And given how he had more or less treated it as an exercise of the body, he did not want to use his magic even if he had been thrown into this situation along with those who were closer to him in terms of power. Once all of this was over, the festival stuff was going to get packed in and stored away for another year, while the forest they were fighting in would remain. So if he were to set fire to the place or outright destroy the surroundings with his magic, which seemed to be just about the only thing his magic was really good at, it would still be destroyed by the time the festival ended, which did not seem to be the kind of thing people really thought about a whole lot.
But that seemed to be one of the recurring things with humans, a general disregard for their surroundings and nature. Not something directly born out of malice, but rather out of an unthinking carelessness. And since it was something the vast majority seemed to be suffering from, he could not really blame them for it, though he did mourn their lack of care.
Wandering out of the forested section, it would seem that at least one of them was still fighting, who was also the last of the three to arrive and take part in the hunt, Dante. While it seemed like he was struggling against the last of the remaining zombies, stepping in and taking it out for him was not the kind of thing Griswold was known for. If it came down to a matter of life and death, he might consider it, but doing so at this stage without being asked for help would result in nothing but him tramping on Dante’s sense of self worth and whatever ego he had. And seeing as how stomping on someone else’s pride was not something Griswold was in the business off, he made his way over to where the folks in charge of the zombie hunt were stationed. Because he had already known who would be the winner here the moment they all stepped in, and for obvious reasons, he had nothing to prove by staying and gloating.
Judging by what he had seen in previous encounters with the boy, he already knew Noah would be able to take care of himself, so if there were to be any issues, Griswold imagined it would be best if Noah were to be the one who helped Dante out if shit hit the fan. They were in the same squad, and given how Griswold was counted among the royal knights, he figured Dante felt like he had more to prove towards him than he did towards Noah. With that thought in mind, he nodded towards the two Golden Dawn mages, though it was not certain if they had even noticed as much when he did it. But that was fine, as the black swordsman was never really the kind to overstay his supposed welcome. Imagining he would likely see them around again at some later point in time at the festival, he thought about joining in on the pumpkin carving so he could use his dagger for something other than gutting and skinning animals. And with that, he just wandered away.
[attr="class","noahtext"] Noah was returning from the forest, into the area they initially started at. It wasn’t a surprise that Griswold was already there as he finished the first. Noah just smiled. “This was more fun than I would like to admit, but also a great exercise.” He spoke, but he didn’t really expect a reply from the Solarian Wolf. There were three more zombies left, and they were all in the lower tiers. This would seem like an ideal place to leave, as Griswold was already on his way out. Noah would turn towards the person who was administrating their competition and smiled. “Do you please have some bandages? I think I scratched my leg during the fight.” His trousers were completely torn apart, and there were several bloodstains on them. The person was fast in assistance, and after Noah got this done, he knew he would have to change anyway. Maybe this was the time to pull out his costume for another competition. Before leaving, he would quickly look back into the forest, Dante was still fighting, but Noah was sure that it would turn out okay. The winner was already known, even if it was never said directly, and therefore, after thanking the team behind this, he would just wander off to see what else was going on.[break] [exit]

Post by Dante Wilhelm on Oct 14, 2021 1:32:43 GMT -5
"Lava Magic: Lion's Maw!" Dante called out as his grimoire rapidly flipped through pages before settling on the spell that he wished to use. With this being the last battle for this event, Dante felt that he could afford to go all out with his attack against this zombie. His mana surged as the lava gathered around his arms and legs forming into a pair of clawed greeves over the lower part of his legs as well as covering his arms, ending with a pair of lion heads over his hands. With the increase in his strength from being hit earlier, Dante felt that he was capable of being able to match and defeat the zombie in physical combat; something that he excelled at.
Dante jumped on top of his lava dragon, its ruby-red body gleaming under the moonlight as it charged forward towards the zombie who merely groaned in response as it lumbered forward in an attempt to attack it. Just before the dragon attacked, Dante launched himself off the golem as he commanded the beast to dodge around the zombie and wrap around it, constricting the zombie and halting its movements as he landed behind it in a crouch. He stared at the zombie, noticing that it was slowly but surely managing to break out of the hold. Seeing this, the Golden Dawn member didn't hesitate to start attacking it with a flurry of punches to any body part that he could hit.
It wasn't long before the zombie began to disintegrate back into mana particles, ending this game. Releasing his hold on his mana, Dante watched his golem and lion heads crumbled into rock as they fell to the ground. The fight with the zombie didn't really let Dante feel that accomplished regarding his battle prowess though it at least served as a distraction from his interaction with his cousins earlier. Still, as he walked back to the entrance; no doubt the other 2 have already headed back and moved on to another event, Dante couldn't help but feel a bit unfulfilled by the fights, finding them to be easier than he had expected.
