You are starting to create small waves within the church and the bishop Prisha Santa Maria believes you are the right person to take on this test, she even says that it will prove you are ready to take the next step in your spiritual journey. The vault of Gnome is known to hold all sorts of relics, some of them harmless and others with a more sinister history and energy. During an inventory check, it was noticed that two relics had gone missing, this is a problem in itself as it means there is a weakness in the defences that needs to be addressed. The more pressing matter at current is that the two relics that were stolen are from an ancient daemonic cult and are dangerous in their current state. You have been requested to retrieve both relics, through our sources one has been found within the witch's forest royal capital and the other has been reportedly seen in Carrion near the border of Spade. Be careful and be safe.

Although it hadn't been all that long since he had been given this particular assignment, Thaddeus had currently found himself within the Witches Forest. A land that has been closed for hundreds of years that acts as home to all witches.. Not only had this place been entirely hostile towards men but it was rumored to host all manner of daemons, archdaemons, corrupted dark mana beasts, and witches. All in all, this was a place that was clearly going to be difficult for one such as Thaddeus to navigate. Now one might be wondering why exactly it is that our resident Spring Deacon has found himself within the Witches Forest. Well the reasoning for that is quite simple. Unlike the last time that he had been here, searching for herbs that could be utilized to prevent or reverse a vampiric transformation, Thaddeus had now been here under the orders of the Spring Bishop: Prisha Santa Maria.
Supposedly, during a recent inventory check of the Great Vault, it had been noted that two ancient relics had gone missing! Given that the Great Vault had been located deep beneath the church in the royal capital and that it had been warded by magical symbols and made almost entirely out of marble, it was clear that something had been amiss. Not only that but each of the relics and objects of note that had been contained within the Great Vault had been held within smaller vaults that were warded and boobytrapped so those that enter without the proper clearance likely wouldn't leave with their lives intact. The fact that anything had been removed from the Great Vault had been a rather clear indicator of the fact that it was far more than likely that a member of the Hoard of Gnome had been involved. The fact that any such member of the Hoard had been willing to slip away with one of these relics had been messy enough to deal with.. The origin of these relics themselves would ultimately make the situation all that more dire though. The two relics that had gone missing during this inventory check had been noted to have been from an ancient daemonic cult and were supposed to be quite volatile in their current state.
Paired with all of this information, Thaddeus couldn't help but wonder who exactly it was that had been the weak link in this situation. It was clear that one of the Vault-Keepers had been tied to the situation but was it that particular individual that had been the source of the missing relics? Or were they just the outlet in which the relics had been removed from the Great Vault? How many people were going to be tied into this investigation? Were the daemons or archdaemons involved in this in any way? At present, there were far too many questions for Thaddeus to really throw himself into. In time, he was sure that the answers would crop up but for now? For now he was simply going to have to undertake the task ahead of him and hope for the best. This was a solo mission in and of itself.. One that he would have to undergo without any assistance. All that he could hope for is that the Spirits were watching over him.

In this current moment, Thaddeus had been making his way through the Outer Forest. There had been a huge part of him that had desired to speed through the forest atop his flying broom but that dream had been rather short lived as the young Deacon had traversed throughout the forest itself. Even whilst in the Outer Forest, it had become quite clear to Thaddeus that remaining on the ground had been his best chance of surviving within this domain. From what he had been able to see, the witches that had claimed this land as their home had been keeping their homes and shops high up in the canopies of the giant trees. Simple suspension bridges and large branches formed into makeshift pathways would allow for the witches to make their way across the land without much worry but when they hadn't been using those, they would naturally use their flying brooms. With that having been the case, it was much safer for the male dwarf to travel by foot upon the ground.
Although he couldn't exactly zoom through the forest on the back of his flying broom, there had still been other precautions that Thaddeus had chosen to undertake. At the moment, it wouldn't exactly have been wise for him to have summoned forth his carbon golems. This much had been a smidge upsetting, given the fact that they were the companions whom he had spent much time fighting alongside, but it was safer this way. Having eight meter tall carbon golems pushing through the forest... Well that much would have been a dead giveaway of the fact that he had been here. Without his guardian golems here to ensure his safety, there was really only one act that the Spring Deacon could perform at the moment to boost his survival rate.
'...I really feel as though I might not have been the best fit for this particular venue but I can't let the Church down... As a Vault-Keeper, it is my duty to ensure that these relics are recovered.' Whilst shaking his head a bit from side to side, Thaddeus would begin to undertake his final preparation. The Spring Deacon would begin to pat on his chest with the side of his left hand whilst stating this own name aloud. "Thaddeus." Upon doing so, a slab of Carbon Matter would appear before him. Said Carbon Matter would than shoot back towards Thaddeus and would then begin to wrap itself around the Spring Deacon, becoming a suit of armor that would outfit the Deacon in a matter of seconds. 'At least I'll be able to get through the forest this way. And who knows..? Perhaps I'll be able to blend in with the ground somewhat...?' That last thought had been rather unlikely but one could hope.
Now outfitted with a semblance of protection, Thaddeus would begin to make his way through the Outer Forest. He was going to have to be quick on his feet if he was planning on making it to the Capital City by nightfall. The next several hours would actually encompass the Spring Deacon making his way through this domain, pushing himself just enough to ensure that he wasn't lagging behind but simultaneously stopping himself whenever he had felt as though a break was needed. While he had wanted to get there in a relatively short amount of time, he had understood that it would have been bad for him to exert too much of his energy before any actual combat may arise. The fact that he had also been keeping an eye out for any sort of scouts had also managed to slow his time down a bit but it was well worth it in the long run. As long as he was being safe, he could hopefully get to where he was heading without too much delay. 'This whole thing might honestly be easier with Scout Golems.. I'll have to try and focus on developing such a thing in the future. If only I had the foresight to do this beforehand.'

Another couple of hours would pass as Thaddeus had continued to make his way through the outer forest. Things had been going rather smoothly thus far, which the Spring Deacon would ultimately chock up to pure luck or at least the fact that this part of the forest had been open to the citizens of the Clover Kingdom, but something had still felt a bit off. Even without anything of note really having happened to him yet, Thaddeus couldn't help but wonder why it is that the Witch Queen was even allowing the Daemons and Archdaemons into her territory. Was she perhaps aligned with them in any way? These were things that Thaddeus had never really payed all that much attention to. Surely he should have spent more time focusing on such things, when he was undertaking his studies in the Grand Cathedral, but it was something that he had ultimately never really thought to question. 'If the Witches and the Daemons pair up in the future, or if they are already teamed up with one another, I'm not quite certain how well the Magic Knights will be able to hold off both parties. I'll have to discuss my thoughts with Prisha after this entire thing and see what kind of insights she is willing to offer me.'
It was as Thaddeus had been contemplating over such a thing that a low growl would be heard from up ahead. "Growling? Why would there be gro-" As the Spring Deacon had been attempting to finish his train of thought, his body would be knocked to the ground with an inane amount of force. The sound of stone being shattered could be heard from just behind him as Thaddeus would quickly turn to see what in the world had just dealt such a ferocious blow to him. It was a bit difficult to make out at first, given that he had been knocked to the ground, but with enough strain in the neck the Spring Deacon could see exactly what it had been. The creature that had knocked him to his knees had been one that he had never come across before.. Some kind of corrupted mongrel. The dark mana that had been emanating from the creature had been enough to send chills down the Spring Deacons spine as he had watched his blessed armaments shatter. "What in the hells are you?!"
Knowing that things were only going to go downhill if he had chosen not to act here, Thaddeus would immediately roll himself over so that the mongrel would be forced to roll off of him. Once he had gotten his footing, the Spring Deacon would reach back and grab ahold of his dual pronged spear. "Now I don't know what you are but I can't exactly allow for you to bring me down here." In the next moment, both the daemonic mongrel and the Spring Deacon would begin to charge at one another. Behind the eyes of the mongrel had been a deep seeded bloodlust that Thaddeus had never truly encountered before. Not to this extent. In truth, it had shaken him, albeit briefly. This was a moment that he couldn't exactly back down from.. and as such, Thaddeus had known that he would have to attempt to get the upper hand here. Once the mongrel had leapt into the air to try and bite into him once more, the Spring Deacon would dig his heels into the ground. He would than release the haft of the spear with his left hand whilst still holding it with his right. A soft whistle would now escape from the Spring Deacons lips as he would flick his left index finger in the direction of the mongrel. In the next moment, a carbon chain would burst forth from the ground and wrap around the mongrels legs, pulling it down into the ground and cutting its attack against the Deacon short. Following this up with two quick jabs from the Deacons dual pronged spear and the mongrel would find itself melting directly into the shadows, deceased.

With this daemonic mongrel having been put to rest, Thaddeus would quickly kneel over the spot in which the fight had taken place and would begin to offer up a short prayer. This prayer had not been to the creature that had just tried to kill him but to the earth that had inhabited the land. Any land that had to deal with the taint of such a vile and wicked creature was one that would need to be prayed over, in the eyes of the Spring Deacon. At least this way the land would be clean. Once this little ritual of his had been down though, the Spring Deacon would continue on this trek through the forest. Along the way, he would be sure to try and escape the ever watchful gaze of the forest inhabitants. No matter how welcome the citizens of the Clover Kingdom had been, the fact that this place and its people hadn't cared much for males had been true.
Once the Spring Deacon had managed to push on out of the Outer Forest and had managed to come upon the great stone wall that encircles the central part of the forest, he would go about casting his blessed armaments spell once more. Much like he had done earlier, he would proceed to pat on his chest whilst stating his name aloud. This would lead to a carbon slab appearing before him and ultimately slamming into his person so that he could be outfitted with carbon armor. 'Almost there.. Honestly not sure what the plan is going to be once I get there. Or even how I am going to bypass the stone wall. While I could always just kind of make my way through the wooden gate that separates these two parts of the forest, I am sure that every witch in the land will come after me if I do so.'
In all honesty, Thaddeus was running out of ideas on what to do here. While he could have just gone through the front gate, such an idea was likely to end with him forfeiting his life. How was he ever going to come up with a plan that would allow for him to overcome this situation? Well thankfully he wouldn't have to. As the Spring Deacon had been contemplating several ideas on what to do here, a rather familiar sight would go on to catch his attention. Out of the corner of his eye, a figure wearing something that resembled the vestments of the Hoard of Gnome had been making their way through the forest. The fact that someone other than him had been making their way through this forest, whilst dressed in the garb of the Church, had been rather attention grabbing to say in the least. 'Is.. Is this the person that I came all the way out here for? D-do they have the relics that were missing from the inventory logs?!' Hoping to learn more about what was going on, Thaddeus had chosen to subtly follow behind the individual.
Having followed after the vestment-laden individual, Thaddeus would eventually come upon some kind of secret entrance. This was clearly the kind of thing that he wouldn't exactly remember how to find in the future, given just how out of the way it had been, but at least he was able to find it now. Of course this had been thanks to the mysterious Vault-Keeper that was currently making their way through the wall... Not wishing to lose this Vault-Keeper, Thaddeus would continue to trek behind the individual. Although it had been rather difficult to maintain, Thaddeus would go on to follow this individual for the next several hours. By this point, it was practically nightfall and things were becoming a smidge more difficult to navigate. Honestly, if it wasn't for his well adjusted eyes from all the years in those caves, Thaddeus likely would have lost this person by now.
It was rather late into the night by the time this individual would come to a stop. The two had managed to push on into the Capital City of the Witches Forest and quite honestly, both of them had been rather uncomfortable to be here. For Thaddeus, it was due to the fact that this was where the rumored daemons and archdaemons had supposedly been located. For the mysterious Vault-Keeper, it was due to the fact that he had no right to be here. Not that this would prevent either of them from doing what had needed to be done. 'Damn, Damn, Damn... Gnome, by all that is holy, please ensure that I'm not killed here... I hope to spread your name and your word but I can't do jack if I'm dead...' Trying to push past all of his worries, Thaddeus would begin to take a few cursory glances about the area in which they had stopped. From the looks of it, they had been a few miles away from the Witch Queens Palace. This much had been clear, given the fact that the palace could be seen sticking out the side of a massive tree trunk. Being this close in proximity to so many deadly individuals... It was enough to make the Spring Deacon want to vomit. In fact, it would take everything in the man not to do so as he had watched the events before him unfold.
From the looks of things, the Vault-Keeper had been here to meet up with one of the Witch Queens Emissaries. Or at least that was what the individual whom had been meeting the Vault-Keeper had claimed to be. They were outside of some kind of warehouse, that was naturally imbedded in the side of a massive tree, and were seemingly about to try and make a trade for the relic that he had held on his person. In exchange, it would seem as though the Vault-Keeper had been wishing to get on the Witch Queens good graces by offering up a relic from an ancient daemonic cult... All in all, things were not looking good.

Knowing that this was his only chance to recover the artifact, Thaddeus would begin to take a calculated risk. 'I can only manage to take on both of these individuals if I am willing to give it everything that I've got. I just need to hope that I don't summon forth too many of the enemy..' It is with this that the Spring Deacon would begin to pull together a string of spells. He would start off by patting himself on the chest with the side of his left hand whilst stating his name, albeit silently. "Thaddeus." Upon taking such an action, a slab of Carbon Matter would appear before the man. Said Carbon Matter would than shoot back towards Thaddeus, ultimately proceeding to wrap around the man and becoming a suit of armor, thus outfitting them in a matter of seconds.
Now that he had found himself to be outfitted, Thaddeus would proceed to call forth a few allies. Raising his right hand in a rather dramatic fashion, the Spring Deacon would proceed to state the name of the spell. "Oread." Upon doing so, the carbon matter from just ahead of him would begin to shift and twist, continuing to do so until there had been two eight-meter tall carbon golems before him. It was good to have allies that could assist him.. but these ones had certainly stood out too much. Knowing this, he would immediately throw them into action. With a simple mental command, Thaddeus would send the two carbon golems toward the Vault-Keeper and the Emissary.
Upon hearing the heavy thuds that would accompany the pair of carbon golems, both the Vault-Keeper and the Emissary had looked rather shocked. Who was it that had dared to intrude upon a meeting between an Emissary of the Witch Queen? The Emissary had justifiably been rather pissed about the entire situation but as for the Vault-Keeper? Well they weren't about to stick around to try and figure out who had the gall. It was for this reason that they would attempt to flee. And with this flee attempt? Well Thaddeus couldn't exactly let them go. To prevent them from escaping, Thaddeus would simply whistle softly whilst flicking his left index finger in the direction of the individual. Upon doing as much, a singular chain made of carbon matter would burst forth from the ground and would attempt to entangle itself around the individuals legs. Having managed to snag one of their legs, the chain would decidedly root itself in the ground and, of course, the Vault-Keeper with it.
With one of their targets now bound whilst the other had simply been ready to take them on, Thaddeus' golems would slam their carbon fists directly into each of their targets. What would follow this was the Spring Deacon himself bobbing and weaving throughout the battlefield with his carbon spear drawn. The Vault-Keeper had instinctively thrown their own earthen chain out at Thaddeus to try and slow him down, which it had, but this was just as he had managed to close the distance between the two of them. The Vault-Keeper's spell would cease to exist once Thaddeus had whacked the man over the head with enough force to knock him out. With one target down, Thaddeus would proceed onto the next target, bringing them down just as swiftly.
All that was really left to do now was to gather the stolen artifact and than book it before any trouble had come looking for him. Snagging the artifact off of the vault-keeper had been easy enough.. Bringing him along so that he could face recompense for his actions though, had been a bit more difficult. It had taken a moment but eventually Thaddeus would manage to get the individual thrown over their shoulder. And once that much was done, the Spring Deacon would simply fly off towards the royal capital, being sure to leave his golems behind. This would buy him about twenty meters or so before the witches would come to realize that something was wrong and that he had been escaping.
