Junjie was an unusual sort as he tended to keep his own council, rarely even speaking to his twin sister on matters as he didn't want to bring her into the issues that were troubling him. The pair wanted to remove her from the Yuiee estate, a place that they both deemed impure and toxic in several ways. It had been something that had been growing slowly since their mistress was young but it had jumped a great deal when Junjie found her almost beaten to death for not following what her family wanted for her. It was something only he, Luli and Hinota's parents knew of. It ate at him each day as if he had been even a minute later then he knew that the one he swore himself to would no longer be breathing. He knew that she feared her parents and yet still wore a smile hiding that fear and pain under a mask of serenity.
It was expected of her, she was a princess and had done her best to be a dutiful daughter while following her heart. She had been dragged home by her elder brother Jirou and grounded by her father as he knew that she would again face the daemons like she had twice before but even that hadn't protected her. The Wizard King had travelled alongside his advisor and handed her orders personally, at that point neither parent could step in as she was a conscripted magic knight like them. From that day she started preparations to make sure that the group would have food and drinks that would be beneficial to them. He had escorted her to the forest and as much as he wanted to escort her deeper he knew he had to believe those who she travelled with her would protect her in his stead.
He knew could have waited in the forest for her to exit, however, he knew that she would be upset at herself for making him do such a thing out of worry. He didn't want to make her feel any pain or sorrow, he closed his eyes and sighed it was such a mess and as much as he wanted to fix it he had no idea how to do it. He could speak to his mother and have his mistress stay on the Zhongli estate but that would cause a different host of issues, especially since his mistress was a well-known and respected young woman and so her absence would be noticed by many and that would have people look for the missing support mage. He shook his head, it wasn't something that he could address now even if he wanted to.
He looked to the sky for a moment "Is there truly no solution?" he would ask as if he was praying for an answer. Sighing once more he moved from the forest knowing that she would contact him the moment she exited the forest if he wasn't there. He would of course return at dusk but for now, he needed to do something to focus his mind. He usually did this by training against his sister but his mother had her on a mission at current so it was impossible. "I wonder if Shi is able to train today." he pondered to himself as he changed course and headed towards the Honoka estate. There was something else that he had to speak to the swordswoman about and that was Jevi. He believed that he had potential but his way of thinking was flawed and wondered if she would notice it when they spoke.
It had taken several hours but he eventually got to the Honoka estate. He bowed politely to a servant who attempted to explain where the shop was. He explained that he was aware but he wasn't there to buy clothes, the servant was about to speak when an elder servant of the house ushered him away and greeted the swordsman. He asked if the swordswoman was within the estate and if she was if she was free. The servant commented that she was indeed and would see if she was. He remained within the garden looking within the koi pond his eyes seeming clouded as he waited to hear one way or the other.

Shi listened to the conversation from her resting spot against the wall behind Sumire. It was her job as Sumire's sellsword, as her retainer, to always be in her presence and ensure none causes harm to her or to her family. The woman has been a retainer to many families over the years. She was a noble woman, she knew all the politics but she wasn't one for being where sumire was. she was more comfortable wielding a blade to those who affect her client's families. However, she was also a teacher. She could teach all traditions of her own land without fail but this wasn't the east. This was clover, a different battlefield. She could keep true to the teachings of the east, just as instructed but then the girl would never get to know the place she wanted to learn since the one she cared for was here. This was his home where he flourished, She knew sumire wanted to learn of his home and make it hers as well.
She watched the display infront of her as the mention of Hinota Yuiee was the signal that this meeting was going to be ending. The imperials were a whole different breed of troubles. This was a landfield she needed to ensure sumire didn't try traversing. She knew a few others that would be more suited to assisting with the imperials but lady honoka and the family was not one of those options.
It was then she heard a tap against the door frame to see a servant kneeling by the door bowing before they came in and whispered something to her
"Your presence has been requested by Lord Junjie Bai."
"Hm?" asked Shi standing up slowly as she turned to the group " Stay here in my place till the guests are gone please. I will tend to our other visitor." Shi spoke softly to the servant as she bowed " Sorry to interruption lady Honoka, it seems my presence is requested elsewhere for the time being. I will be back swiftly." She spoke as sumire nodded in understanding as shi moved out the door moving towards the garden the separated sumire's private warehouse of a workshop and the family estate. She walked slowly to Junjie, her sword resting on the belt on her waist as her hands were folded within her sleeves " Good day to you Junjie. Needing to get some thoughts out?"she asked as she could tell he was troubled, it was saddening to see such a sight of the man that protected their princess. She moved her attention towards a open area of the garden. A place she did sometimes work on Sumire's own weapon skills. One never knew if the poor seamstress was to get kidnapped again. She had to make sure the girl could protect herself if she didn't have access to her spells.
[attr="class","raescroll"] The moment Jevi had uttered Hinota’s name, the meeting was essentially over. Neither Lord Yinsil or Lady Honoka could help teach him the things he would need to know in order to handle the imperial court. It was disheartening, but what else could he have expected? A sigh escaped his lips as he nodded in understanding towards his hosts, giving them both a bow out of gratefulness. “I appreciate your time more than I could express in words. I understand your stance and situation, and though I find it regretful there is simply nothing that can be done about it.” It truly was as simple as that. They could not help him, because they would inadvertently get their own families in potential danger. That meant he had to do it by himself, or see if there was anyone else who could help him. Neither of Hinota’s brothers seemed like a wise choice. Hinota did not really want him near Junjie again, even though she had shown signs of taking back that decision last they met, and that is if Junjie even wanted to help him in the first place. The man was not exactly his biggest fan, or at least that was Jevi’s perception on the current matter. Then who was left? Potentially Hania and Amaya? He doubted the former would want to spare him the time, and while the latter might he was not sure if she would. That really just left him to his own devices. [break][break] With the meeting concluded, Jevi noted that Shi was called upon by a servant and the name Junjie Bai got mentioned. Why was Junjie here? Did that mean Hinota was here to visit Sumire? No, it was particularly Shi who was asked to come and see Junjie. The servant had made no mention of Hinota wanting to see Sumire, so it was impossible for her to be here. As Shi made her apology to Sumire for having to leave, Jevi got up as well. “I will be making my leave as well. Thank you again, Lady Honoka. Lord Yinsil.” Now that he was standing upright, he gave them both another bow before leaving the room a bit after Shi had left. His mind was racing, trying to find solutions to his problem, but obviously he could not come up with anything. The people who could help him likely would not help him, or could not help him. Every time he was near Hinota he messed up due to his lack of knowledge, and knowledge on the imperial court itself was hard to gather. He had already figured that out after reading through several books on the Eastern culture and customs. Then what else was he supposed to do? He did not want to simply give up on having Hinota in his life. It was not even about his romantic feelings for the woman, it was about wanting to be in her presence, listening to her advice and most importantly he had this strange, nagging feeling in the back of his mind telling him she needed him too. Perhaps it was just wishful thinking on his end, but he noticed her demeanor and he could see through the masks she wore at least a little bit. There was so much sadness behind them, and he wanted to do whatever he could to help alleviate that pain. She had done so much for him, it was only right he did the same for her. [break][break] As he exited the estate, Jevi started to make his way towards Jasmine so he could go home. There was a lot to think about, and a lot of research to be done. Now that he was outside, he noticed Shi approaching Junjie, and it was indeed the Junjie he knew. How could it not be? Was it alright for him to even greet the man? Hinota had wanted them to not interact anymore, and he knew he should honor that, however it would be rude not to acknowledge the man’s presence. Jevi was not planning on staying after all, so it would be nothing more than a simple greeting before the two parted ways again. Junjie was one of the few people who knew of Jevi’s home situation, or at least the tip of the iceberg. It simply would not do to ignore him. So, with that sorted out in his mind, Jevi put up a small smile and waved towards both Junjie and Shi. “It is nice to see you again, Lord Bai. Thank you for having me, Lady Qingxuan.” That was not so hard, was it now? With the both of them greeted, Jevi turned around again to resume his walk to the stable where Jasmine would be waiting for him. Maybe he could take her for a bit of a longer ride on his way back to help clear his mind. That sounded like a good idea.

Junjie remained at the koi pond, to those who didn't know him he would seem completely at peace surrounded by the serene garden around him. Hearing Shi's voice he turned to her a small smile on his face he placed his right hand in his left and bowed politely in greeting. "Good afternoon Shi, I hope you are in high spirits and your sword is as sharp as always." he said his tone respectful as he stood straight once more. "Hm?" was the only reply to her next question, he knew in their line of work they had to be astute so he wasn't about to play her for a fool as she knew his mannerisms well due to frequently training together "There is a lot on my mind, I will admit Shi." he said walking closer to her "That being said it isn't exactly something anyone can help me with, still..." he said with a sigh.
"My mistress as you know is well renowned in Clover for her supportive and tactical capabilities, she was given orders to deal with a threat I can not protect her from." he informed her, it was clear that he was worried about her. "She may look delicate and fragile but I know she is a formidable young woman I helped nurture and teach some of the gifts she has after all, but she is still my responsibility." His tone was calm but the worry was clear in the undertone. "They have many mages that could fulfil her role in this assignment, my mistress isn't a warrior after all, she shouldn't be on a battlefield." It was clear even though he had complete faith in his charge he didn't like this situation, he was completely powerless to prevent what could happen to her.
Following her gaze he nodded walking with her to the open area of the garden "Would you care to spare Shi? It has been a while." he said though he stopped hearing a familiar voice. Like with Shi he placed his right hand into his left as he bowed. "Greetings Lord Suru." his voice calm yet polite, though hearing how he spoke to Shi and then walked away made him quirk and eyebrow. "I understand in the west greeting people and walking off if a conversation is happening may be polite but it is quite impolite in the east." he would say wondering what on earth was going on, his eyes turning to Shi "I didn't mean to disturb if you were hosting, I could come back later." he bowed to Shi once more truly believing that he may have disrupted something.

Shi was no stranger to the motions of the body. the slightest movements the undertones. They were easier to see when wielding a blade then in words. She was wise for her age. She had many many teachers, many many loves, and some students all from different walks of life on her travels. she motioned with her head towards the open spot in the garden. One that was made for her to train sumire and ensure the girl could protect herself. She hated having to ask such things but this family was not militaristic. All knew their weapons as any person should but they were not meant to be on a battlefield. She was beside herself each time sumire happen to find herself in some dungeon rather with magic knights or who knows who else.
She listened to Junjie's woes about his worries for Hinota. he knew the girl was going to be fine and could stand on her own but he still was uneasy and unsure knowing their traditions, the places women in their traditions often wear. No where near the battlefields. In some home, looking out for the hope that their husbands would return safely. Such a existence was not lost on shi, but one she fought and won her battle against even if she lost the war among other things.
"If that will help put you at ease, I am always open to ensuring my skills are not dulling with this life of servitude." She spoke before turning to hear Jevi bid her Farwell and thanking her for helping him, even if she did nothing but her duty. She listened quietly to them both as she shaked her head " Lord Suru Here was actually meeting with Lord Yinsil and lady Honoka. His heart is heavy and burdened just like you. The world is not so kind to us who bare our blades in the name of those we protect. Would you be opposed to allowing him to stay Junjie. I believe you and I might be the best assistance for this swordman." she spoke to Junjie before turning to Jevi. "Will you stay to listen and watch us in our spar. We tend to train from time to time as I am sure you know who we both serve. I believe your method of finding a balance is not done the correct way as words won't help you, perhaps sparing with us could help clear your mind for your next steps." She spoke to Jevi

[attr="class","raescroll"] Shi had left to go meet up with Junjie before Jevi had left the estate himself. After saying his goodbyes to Lord Yinsil and Lady Honoka, he made his way outside as well hoping to simply get to Jasmine and be able to go home. However, as he left the estate he could hardly ignore Junjie and Shi standing there, and so he felt compelled to greet them before turning on his heel to resume his way. He figured that would be the end of it, but Junjie did not simply let him leave and called him out for what he had just done. Hearing the man’s voice alone was enough to make him turn around, and of course what he had just done was offensive in Eastern culture. Why wouldn’t it be? It’s like he was unable to do anything that was not offensive to people from the East no matter how hard he tried. Jevi sighed softly, a tired yet gentle smile gracing his features as he tried his best to hide the turmoil he felt inside. Neither of them needed to know. “Ah, my apologies, Lord Bai. I did not mean any offense, I merely attempted to intrude as little as possible on your conversation.” He bowed in apology and learned his words had caused some confusion, as expected, making Junjie believe that he had been here to visit Shi instead of Sumire and Enlil. [break][break] Though before Jevi could correct that mistake, Shi spoke up and explained that Jevi was here to visit Lady Honoka and Lord Yinsil. Though he could have done without the further explanation of his burdened heart, he could not exactly deny it either and saw no reason to start an argument. Though with those words his facial expression turned from the tired, gentle smile into a frown, dropping the pretense that he was alright. There was no use in hiding it anymore now that Shi had outed the fact he had issues of his own. Apparently, Shi did see him as a swordsman and understood that he wanted to protect someone who was precious to him, which was a welcome surprise. He did not think she’d think that way or show him as much grace. The offer for him to stay and watch them spar was interesting, but he was not sure if that was okay. “You do not need to trouble yourselves with me. I will likely only get in the way.” What good had he done so far, after all? Absolutely nothing. Junjie thought his swordsmanship was sloppy, and he was likely no match for either of them either. There was nothing of value he could add to their spar, and he did not want to intrude on Junjie’s business because the man had asked for Shi for a reason. [break][break] However, Shi still gave him the option to stay believing that herself and Junjie might be the ones who could help him out best with finding his balance. Words weren’t what he needed in her opinion, but a spar could certainly help him clear his mind. Jevi bit his lip as he considered it for a mere moment. Was it really alright to accept such a thing? On an estate he did not belong to? Not to mention he was unsure what Hinota thought of him being around Junjie after their last chat regarding the subject. Junjie’s harsh words had lead Jevi to attempt and prove himself, training without taking enough rest and thus hurting himself in the process. It had greatly upset Hinota, and he did not know whether Junjie was even told about it. “Well, I did have my own training planned as well, so.. if you are both alright with having me and believe it is okay for me to join, then I suppose there is no reason for me to deny such a generous offer.” Despite his insecurities on the matter, he put his right hand to his left palm and gave them both a bow, mimicking what he had seen Junjie do prior and hoping that this was the proper greeting to give in the situation. [break][break] Regardless of him accepting the offer, Jevi could tell that his heart and mind were at war with one another. His mind was telling him to leave, because staying longer would only cause people problems. Logically speaking Jevi believed he would be better off leaving his estate and returning to the Forsaken Region like before. The three years he had spent there had been peaceful and without worry for him. He knew he could return to the village he had spent the most time at, as he would be welcomed at any time. Hell, if he went back now he was certain that Cecilia was still waiting for him as well and that the marriage proposal her father had made was still on the table. He could be with a girl who loved him, surrounded by people who appreciated having him around and start a family all his own. He’d have to find a different job to provide, but that wouldn’t be too much of an issue. [break][break] His heart, however, was screaming at him to stay. To not take the easy way and give up. Leaving now would mean that he would deny himself his wants and desires of becoming someone who mattered. Someone people could rely on. He would have to leave Hinota behind, and she would likely blame herself as that’s who she was. Even worse was the fact he would have to break his mother’s heart again, and that’s something that he did not want to do. But was listening to his heart the right thing to do when it kept getting him into trouble? That inner war put him out of balance, and until it was solved he would not be able to grow, whether Jevi fully realized that himself or not.

The male watched Shi quietly, it was not uncommon for each of them to look for the subtle cues that others would overlook, regardless of whether they were a sellsword like Shi or an imperial bodyguard like himself they were both warriors and bodyguards so they had a mutual understanding and respect for their code and what it meant to walk their paths. He had begun to walk with her after telling her what was on his mind, he often kept his own council but on something like this, he found himself unable to do it. It would be a concern even his sister would have but she had been gone for a few months at this point thanks to a task given to her by their mother. He knew that she would have just as much worry as him when she found out and would possibly resent their mother for sending her away.
It wasn't like it would have changed the path their lady walked, as much as her family didn't see it she was a dutiful young woman who wanted to grow and flourish beyond the confines that had been decided for her. He had to admit, he wasn't completely on board with it given her gentle soul and felt that it could be tarnished and poisoned with the scenes of war. It was true she was a tactician but there was a difference between reenacting on a map and being on the frontlines doing it. He knew that every injury and death would hurt her like no other thanks to what made her so special but her mind was made up. He often wondered if her family hadn't pushed her and allowed her even a fraction of the freedom awarded to her spoiled brothers if she had taken the path they had truly wanted of her.
It honestly wasn't worth thinking about as that time had long since passed, all he could do was support and protect her as she travelled down the turbulent road she placed herself on hoping that one day she would walk off it down a more peaceful one. It was then that Shi spoke and he came out of his thoughts "I thank you as always, Shi." he said bowing his head respectfully. "I would hope your skills wouldn't dull in service or you wouldn't be a worthwhile sparring partner let alone a terrible protector to the young lady Honoka." he said with a chuckle. When Jevi had turned up and spoke he seemed caught off guard as he believed that he had been there to see Shi rather than Sumire but Shi corrected it and he nodded. Westerners truly were an odd bunch to him.
Hearing his heart was burdened his gaze turned back to Jevi "Is it about my mistress?" he would ask his voice calm, he had seen first-hand the awkwardness between the pair and sighed shaking his head "It is a clashing of cultures Lord Suru nothing more." he said trying to show it wasn't exactly anything that either side had done wrong but each side used to their own culture. "To put it into a more in a warrior's frame of mind. Those from the west do frontal assaults while we from the east flank." he explained to him hoping that would give him some clarity. "I am sure you saw just by the interactions between the Lady Honoka and Lord Yinsil they compliment and show intentions but they do not come out and say it, they wouldn't dare as it is deemed shameful behaviour." he explained.
"People have been disowned for going against the wishes of their family..." he paused for a moment while he thought, he looked like he wanted to say something but turned his head away, that was something he would never speak on. How his mistress had been beaten and left for dead by her own father for going against the family's wishes for her. He was glad that he could heal and that his sister could make medicine or his lady's light would have already been a distant memory. Hearing Shi's words he nodded "He is my student so it's about time his lessons started anyway." he told her, Shi would know by now that Junjie had been asked by many to train them and always refused, so this would likely be a surprise to her. "Shi, his teachers were fourth class amatures and it has made him sloppy." he informed her, his voice sounding almost disgusted, not at Jevi but at the teachers for doing it to someone with promise.
"He has potential..." he admitted his eyes going back to Jevi "but a swordsman who has been taught that their weapon is nothing more than a soulless tool doesn't deserve to wield one." his voice showing this is what he truly believed. "What is even worse is a swordsman that doesn't carry a physical sword with them." he sighed as he moved to a weapon rack and took a training sword from it. He twisted and twirled it around almost as if he was checking for something, he put it back and repeated the same actions several times until he held one out to Jevi. "Until you have graduated your training this is the sword you will be using." his voice showing he wasn't kidding about it. "You are not to wield any other physical sword other than this one and if you do I will break your hands before breaking the soulless weapon you were using." again it was clear he was completely serious about the matter.
"Rule one, while you are in training you do not call us by our first or last names, you don't call us lord or lady either. Master and if Shi would prefer the feminine terminology mistress. It is a sign of respect for us as your teachers, after you graduate from your training it is up to you how you address us." he said showing that some people continued to call their teachers by their titles afterwards. "Bowing like I do has meaning. The left hand represents peace while the right hand represents war, so by bowing left hand over right you are showing that you are not aggressive, while right over left well you better be ready to back those actions up." he explained allowing Jevi to take the wooden sword.

Shi walked with Junjie as she was just planning on talking with him. at least till he suggested a spar. she was always down for a spar so she accepted the offer, it really did help from time to time.
She listened to his woes and felt bad for him. he cared about Hinota and worry of the path she has gone down. Much was like the silent worry of shi when it came to her own charge. Sumire enjoyed trying to test her boundaries in the land of clover compared to the traditions he father had in place and wants. She is thankful that the stubborn seamstress was willing to stay within the lines enough to not be severely punished other then the one time that sparked the need for her services. Rogue were an interesting bunch, and if she ever found the certain red head sumire claims to not know much of or remember of. She was going to ensure, he never could haunt the young ward's mind again.
"My skills can never dull, or I would be out of a good job and a peaceful place to freely rest." Said Shi chuckling lightly as she turned to Jevi seeing him arrive as she smiled having asked him to accompany them before asked Junjie if he would accept. She then listened to the change of the topic to seeing insight between Junjie and his awareness of jevi's love for Hinota as she watched quietly leading them along to the training grounds. She often found it interesting to see junjie's interactions with others enspecially those that were interested in the princess. She remained quiet folding her arms behind her back as she listened not interrupting till he state Jevi was his student as she raised an eyebrow in interest. Junjie was actually going to take on a student. She tilted her head as she sighed shaking her head " While that might be true, Clover has their own styles and teachings of their blades, most I don't see how they don't cut themselves with all their movements or sloppy footwork." She said interested " Though if he thinks he wants to deal with that minefield. You will need to break him down and rebuild him." She spoke in honest interest She looked Jevi over as she tilted her head " That is indeed confusing. Lord Suru, Why do you not wield an actual blade? a swordsmen is never seen without their blade." She inquired curious of the reason.
She remained still moving her arms to fold infront of her as she watched him inspect the training blades she personally had the Honoka order for her training of sumire and the siblings that wished to learn. Most could kill if done right but a lot were different weights to help one adjust and adapt each time. She watched Junjie then Jevi as she listened to his instructions to Jevi as it was time to get down to business. Seems Junjie was actually serious about ensuring Jevi gets the most out of his training as she listened to rule number one chuckling lightly. " I haven't heard that in ages. Mistress if fine, better to get him use to it for the battle ahead." She said watching Junjie hold out the wooden blade as her soft smile never left her face as her steel blue eyes watched him as she was eager to see how he would handle this training.
[attr="class","raescroll"] There was no use in denying the reason for his heart being burdened, especially not to Junjie who had seen them interact first-hand. Jevi was under no delusion that Junjie might be unaware of his feelings towards Hinota, and the man tried to comfort Jevi by explaining it was merely a cultural difference. To make it easier for Jevi to understand he even tried to equate it to the two different fighting styles between the West and the East, as Jevi nodded in understanding while still looking troubled. “I understand that, which is why I asked Lady Honoka for her help in learning more about the Eastern culture so I could understand Lady Yuiee better. I-…” He held himself back from talking by biting his lip, tears burning behind his eyes before he ended up speaking anyway. “I realize my feelings can never be returned, and that's fine. But no matter how hard it is to be around her because of that, I still want to support her and be her friend. I can tell she struggles with a lot, and if I could ease that burden even a little bit I would be happy. However, all I keep doing is increase that burden and her worries, so I have been trying to better myself to change that.” Was it a bad thing to show his heart like this? Probably, but it was something that needed to be said, and it was clear that once he had spoke the words out loud his shoulders slumped and relaxed a bit more compared to before. [break][break] Junjie explained how the East worked further by reiterating what he had likely seen in the interactions between Lord Yinsil and Lady Honoka, and Jevi nodded once more to show he understood. It was the most important lesson of today, and one he would need to take to heart. Even so, there was not too much else he had learned and it was bothersome that they could not help him any more than they had. It was not because they didn’t want to, but because they couldn’t and Jevi had to respect that. “Yea, I saw that clearly today. It was a valuable lesson.” To hear being direct in their culture was shameful was not something new to him either. It was just like their fighting style, they had to flank in order to succeed. It was the complete opposite of how Jevi was as a person, because he was straightforward and honest to a fault. He knew he had to work on that to survive as a noble, let alone stand a chance to even exist within the imperial court to be close to Hinota. All in all there were a lot of issues to overcome, but despite his inner war on whether to run or keep fighting he did not cave to his desires to leave it all behind. As much as he needed to control his heart, it kept taking the lead, and he would have to work hard to make his desires a reality. [break][break] When Junjie spoke of people being disowned from their families for such behavior, it looked like there was more he wanted to say, but didn’t. Jevi had noticed, for certain, but he would not comment on it. He knew that Junjie was not too much of a talker, and in all honesty Jevi had already heard more from him than he had actually expected to. The fact that he was then called a student after Shi invited him to stay and watch their spar was even more of a surprise. Jevi was speechless, and even noticed Shi’s reaction it, which showed him that Junjie taking on a student was not commonplace. Junjie then commented with disgust on his previous teachers, and blamed them for him being sloppy as he saw potential in Jevi. It felt good to hear Junjie acknowledge the potential he held within him, which brought out a shy mumble that was barely audible. “Thank you…” The swordsman had been anything but confident as of late, and that doubt was growing larger and larger within himself as much as he tried to fight it. [break][break] Shi commented as well on the ways of Western sword skills, slightly mocking them as she did not see how they weren’t tripping and cutting themselves with their footwork and movements. All Jevi could do was sigh, as over a decade of training and effort was mocked within a single sentence. Yet, he did not want to offend anyone, so he just kept his mouth shut. Every time he spoke his mind he just ended up messing things up for himself, so it was better to not say anything. There was one thing he was confident about though, and he spoke out on that as he balled a fist. “I’ll deal with whatever I have to, alright? I don’t care how much time and effort it will take me.” He couldn’t give up, and so he had to keep telling himself that it was worth it. And she was. He knew she was. The subject of him being without a physical sword came up again as he watched Junjie rummage through the training swords. “I always have swords on me due to my magic, so I never invested in getting a regular, physical sword. In my last mission with Lady Yuiee she informed me about zones where the mana is so thin I would not be able to use my magic, and she wondered about the same thing you two are wondering about now. The answer is simply that I was naïve and during my time in the Forsaken Region I was not exactly in the position to buy a weapon either as I lived off of doing chores and helping others while I traveled. In either case, Lady Yuiee offered to go see the Clearblade’s shop with me to help rectify my past mistakes.” He truly had been ignorant and an idiot, even if Hinota did not want him to say that about himself. [break][break] During this explanation, Junjie had found him a suitable training sword and held it out to him. Jevi took it without complaint and listened to his teacher’s explanation that came with it. He was to only use this physical sword until he graduated from his training, and if he were to touch another Junjie would break his hands as well as the swords he had used. “Alright, that sounds perfectly fine with me. I suppose that trip to the Clearblade’s shop will have to wait then.” He held the wooden sword in his hand and did a step back, swinging it once as he inspected it, feeling the weight of the weapon and the feel of it in his hands. Doing so brought a small smile to his face, as he could tell his focus was with the sword and not with his problems. It looked like Shi was right, some problems did not require words but action, and this training might be exactly what he needed. More rules followed, as Junjie told him that he could no longer call him or Shi by their first names. They were to be referred to as Master and Mistress, which confused Jevi a little bit since the last time he called Junjie by the title Master he had gotten angry with him. Still, he was not going to bring that up and argue, as Shi agreed as well. The woman looked much more relaxed, but Jevi nodded to the both of them. “Understood, Master and Mistress. I’ll be in your care.” This was nothing new to him, considering he had several teachers before this as well who required the same level of respect to be shown. [break][break] Junjie also explained his bow from before which Jevi had mimicked in hopes he was doing well. Apparently, the left hand meant peace while the right hand meant war. If one were to bow with his left hand over the right like Junjie had you are showing the other that you were not aggressive. However, if one bowed with their right hand over their left hand the person would mean war, and should be ready to back up those actions. “Thank you, Master, that is a helpful lesson.” It was something he’d commit to memory for sure. As for the training, Jevi put the wooden sword behind his belt for a moment on his left hip before taking off his jacket. The fancy clothing would only get in the way, and the jacket made way for a tight, black shirt that was underneath which would not hinder his movements even half as much. He put the jacket to the side and grabbed the wooden training sword once more. “I’m ready for the training to start, Master and Mistress.” The war within himself was not over by a longshot, but he could at least throw himself into this training to forget about it for a while. That seemed like the best option right now, so he’d just have to give it his all in order to improve. He wanted to learn what it was he lacked according to Junjie, and through this training he would certainly come to see why he was thought of as sloppy.

Even though Shi hadn't commented, her presence brought him a slither of peace, as she too likely had the same worry for her lady. He was quite sure that Shi wouldn't ever have this issue. Junjie himself believed that if she had been given the same kind of freedoms her brothers were afforded, she would have been quite content to follow the wishes of her parents. He was sure that Jirou's actions when they were younger had also played a part in it as it made it seem like Junjie was an incompetent guard. The only reason he retained his position is that Hinota had locked herself away refusing any other guard. From what Luli had told him she had even refused to eat and when she was threatened with grounding she was unphased. She was a delicate young woman, yet she had always had a strong sense of loyalty.
"I guess there are downsides in your line of work." he commented, he knew being an imperial bodyguard he would always have a job unless he had done something worthy of death or banishment. Then again his family were also imperial as they were a branch of the Yuiee but that wouldn't save him if he was reckless. "I am aware that Clover has their own sword techniques, some of their sword masters are quite a sight to see but the majority lack understanding and are little better than amateurs." he said letting her know his thoughts on the matter. He sighed a little nodding "I am guessing you were challenged by someone trying to show you they were superior." he said, his tone showing he understood that situation all too well as he had been challenged several times over the years.
"The minefield that is the imperial court?" he would ask Shi before sighing and looking Jevi for a moment, it was clear he was thinking over his next words carefully "I grew up within the imperial court as both a noble and a bodyguard to my mistress..." he began "trust me, you don't want to touch that world, especially as you are now, as it will destroy someone like you well before the noble court of Clover ever would." his voice was completely serious on this matter. "Like I said I do believe you have potential but if you can't navigate your own culture's noble court you wouldn't stand a chance in ours let alone the imperial court which is cutthroat." he informed him. "I will help teach you, however, not until you can navigate Clover's noble court." it was clear that he wouldn't budge from that stipulation, to him it was the equivalent of crawling before walking.
He turned his attention to Jevi as he spoke, "Princess, not Lady." He corrected the moment that Jevi used the honorific in regard to Hinota: "If we were in the imperial court, that could have got a severe punishment if not killed." he said calmly "For a foreigner to be incorrect it would be taken as an insult and they would be asked to leave and never return." he was completely serious on this matter. "It is true my mistress doesn't like being called princess because she doesn't want attention drawn to her but she can not fight who and what she is." he ended sighing a little. Junjie listened and watched the change in body language "If that is what you think, then we should just stop wasting all our times." he said crossing his arms, to the swordsman Jevi's defeatest attitude showed him that he would give up if it seemed hard or impossible.
"It's not that my mistress can't return your feelings just you two are of two different worlds with things are accepted differently." his voice was calm the entire time he spoke. "Yes, she is indeed betrothed but things are complicated and you are yet another complication there." he admitted thoughtfully. He then sighed once more "You make it seem to believe that you are the only one that this is difficult for." he said his voice somewhat cold on the matter "This is also difficult on her." he explained "She was raised within the imperial court, only knowing of Clover from textbooks." he informed him "In the imperial court there are rules, laws, ettiquete and expectations... everything is run very smoothly." he shook his head "For her the world outside of her family estate is chaotic and it troubles her even if she doesn't let it be seen." he confessed.
"It's not that she is troubled, but she does struggle with a lot of things but then, what sheltered teenager does not?" he would ask the other. "You truly are a fool." he said with a sigh. "If she felt burdened by you I would have already stepped in and of course she worries, she is a support mage and a pacifist it's in her nature." he said smiling just a little. "I will ask that you do not bring up her struggling with anyone, even her." he wouldn't go into further explanation he just expected Jevi to do as asked of him. The conversation changed to the young lord and lady who were clearly in love but kept their respectful distance from crossing that line. "It is a valuable lesson and one I hope you take to heart lest you hurt both yourself and my mistress." he said his tone stern.
"If you have something to say, then say it don't mumble like you're a shy little boy hiding behind his mother's skirt." he wasn't putting up with mumbles, it wasn't the way warriors worked. He had noticed Jevi's body language earlier when Shi had spoken her mind on the Western sword styles. "Are you going to throw a tantrum by the way? I noticed that you stiffened and balled your hands at Shi's words earlier." he commented finally "Just like the west we had different swords that are wielded differently and need different styles. The sword I gave you is a jian sword, usually, they have tassels or silk on the end to help create diversions." he explained to Jevi "The blade is also flexible when made out of metal." he continued in the education of the weapon.
"I am surprised as someone as travelled as you didn't know this already." he said seeming perplexed. "But, yes there are places that have very thin mana and others without any, during your training I will take you to both eventually." he said showing this wasn't negotiable. He listened to the reason why he didn't have a sword and quirked an eyebrow "Let me get this straight. You left your family estate without taking anything to defend yourself with." he was starting to get a headache at this point.
"When first starting on your path you have limited mana reserves, what would you have done if your reserves were running low and you needed to defend yourself or someone else?" it just baffled him how naive Jevi had been all this time "Then again, it is not your fault, your father and teachers likely told you, you were special due to your magic and even if you don't want to admit it, it likely gave you the feeling that you were untouchable because you had a weapon always." it was clear that Junjie believed he didn't have the correct mindset. "This is one of the reasons I have been so harsh on you, you need to break away from that kind of thinking." he said his voice completely honest with him, he saw Jevi as a misguided noble who needed to be brought onto the correct path so he could reach his potential.
"My sword was Clearblade made." he said calmly, he would have preferred one made by a weaponsmith at home but it was a gift from his mistress and she had ensured it was created via traditional means so he was content enough to use it. He nodded as Jevi took the blade "Knowing my mistress she has already placed the order as they are highly sought after." he said knowing just how long it took for him to get his current weapon. "I trust the balance and weight is perfect for you." he said watching as Jevi inspected the wooden sword. It was clear that Junjie had been doing this for quite some time as he had gone through several before handing that blade to Jevi. "And yes, I know previously I told you not to call me master but at that point, you weren't formerly my student, you are now so our dynamics have changed." he clarified almost as if he knew that subject would be brought up eventually.
Junjie prevented Jevi from taking anything off. "No, your lesson isn't in sparring today, there's something else I want to check." he admitted. "Shi, would you mind calling over a servant?" he would ask, he knew this would be confusing but to him this was one of the most important things for a swordsman. Once the servant had arrived he looked at Jevi. "I want to see how you tend to your sword, any items you need tell this maid and they will be retrieved for you." he said calmly, a sword was only as good as it was cared for after all.

Shi watched Junjie and Jevi as she nodded " The youth of a maiden's heart is as fluid as water twinkling down a cliff side. The slightest change can either change its flow or unleash uncontrolled chaos." She said with a chuckle. She was blessed with her skills and knowledge. she knew what the Honoka was like, both in the east and the wild lands of clover. Nothing would prepare her for the ward of caring and watching over sumire. Girl was like a calm river with a wild turbulence hidden within the river flow. The seamstress wanted to know all clover had because it was his home and the homeland of her mother. while tradition is within her every fiber of her being.
"Every job had a downside if you view it as such."She said before smiling "many thought they could protect her better, they are luckily only their faces and butts got to meet the edge of my blade. Lord Honoka enjoyed the display of his investment."She said "some of their sword masters are very pleasing to the eye."she added with a light laugh folding her hands behind her.
She then heard his acknowledgement of the imperial court. " I stand by my word of the imperial court. I would rather be on a battlefield, then in the court." She said looking away as she let him speak with jevi. She has been in the courts as a younger girl. she left that life of luxury and strict upbringing for the freedom she had now. Now was the time for jevi to speak to the one who will be helping him more then her. She sighed listening to jevi as she could tell his words are true and a feeling of desperation.
"First word of advice from me Jevi. Don't be desperate to make things better. It is either a Do or a don't. Stop feeling guilty and stop feeling as if nothing is going your way. Stand firm in who you are Lord suru. If you wish to handle this world and the life you wish to get closer to with the princess, you need to be firmer with your feelings, with your heart. You can be gentle but you must learn to be firm and bring in your heart and allow it out another way." She encouraged as she listened to Junjie continue to cut into jevi more and more with each sentence. she did feel bad but she knew this was the way and right now junjie was the lead.
She listened as junjie turned his attention to her. " alright."She said looking around seeing a servant heading to sumire's workshop with some fresh linens as she whistled getting the servants attention with a flick of her head as the woman set the basket down heading to them as the basket was then lifted by the hanfu wearing rabbit of a manabeast with the addition of the cat manabeast having to assist both doing their usual conversations and wishes to either hurry or slow down.
"Lord bai, Lady shi." Spoke the servant bowing low in greeting resting one hand over the other before standing up listening to Junjies words as she looked towards Jevi " How may I be of service today." the servant said softly

[attr="class","raescroll"] The talk of the imperial court being so dangerous was something Jevi took note of, and imprinted in his mind. This was not something he could just walk into without the proper preparation. Even Shi mentioned she’d prefer to be on the battlefield than in the imperial court, and Junjie took note of what Jevi hoped to achieve. While he could help, having grown up in said court himself as both a noble and bodyguard to Hinota, he refused to help Jevi until he could navigate the Clover noble court by himself. If he couldn’t do that, then there was no reason to even attempt getting close to the Imperial court of the East. That was a glimmer of hope that Jevi would gladly cling onto, and he knew what he needed to do to achieve that goal. “Understood. Know that I do not take this lightly, and I will apply myself with everything I have to achieve this goal.” The Clover noble court was accessible to him as a noble from Clover, so all he needed to do was find someone he could work with in order to find his way. There were plenty of people he could ask, and while he would need to learn a lot this was very much within his capabilities so long as he worked hard and was diligent. This was just one more step towards his goal, and slowly the road before him began to take shape which was helpful to him as he was still navigating what he needed to put his focus on. These guidelines were useful in that aspect, and he’d have some light at the end of the tunnel in the form of Junjie too. [break][break] Jevi expressed what he felt to the both of them, explaining that while his feelings for Hinota made it difficult to be around her, he could not simply move out of her life either. He could see that she struggled, and he wanted to be someone who could be of help to her instead of a burden like he had been. Shi told him to not be so desperate to make things better, and to stop feeling guilty and as if nothing went his way. If he wanted to get closer to the princess he needed to be firmer with himself, his feelings and his heart. “I’ll keep those words in mind. Thank you.” Junjie explained that he would have to start addressing Hinota as Princess Yuiee, despite her own objections to the title. Within the Imperial court it could lead to severe punishment if not straight up death. As a foreigner making such a mistake would mean he’d be asked to leave and never return. Considering calling her princess had made Hinota extremely upset before made it difficult, but he knew it was what he needed to do. He was just following her culture. “Okay, I will ensure not to make that mistake again.” Jevi was surprised to hear Junjie comment on an attitude he thought to see when Jevi had not shown any signs of backing down. “As I said, I’m doing anything and everything I can to better myself. I’m studying, looking for help and teachers. If that does not show how serious I am, I do not know what will, but nothing is going to stop me.” There was no room for arguments here. Even if he had to figure it out himself, he would. [break][break] While that was surprising, nothing could have prepared him for the words Junjie uttered next. Hinota could return his feelings, but they were from such different worlds which meant it was impossible at the current time. She may be betrothed, yet her engagement was complicated and he was part of the reason why. That meant he had been right on that day they met. That moment they shared was not just in his head. They had a genuine connection and click, but due to her station and current relationship to Valo it made everything confusing for Hinota and she could not act on a whim even if she would have wanted to. It would get her in all sorts of trouble the likes of which Jevi could scarcely imagine. While Jevi’s heart was thumping in his chest, he kept his focus on Junjie who explained this was difficult on Hinota too and not just on him. She had been sheltered for so long and only knew Clover from textbooks much like he only knew the East in the same manner. In the Imperial court everything was very controlled and followed certain rules, but the outside world was chaos to her. He had added even more of that chaos to it by being so open with his feelings, which was something she was far from used to. Not to mention that she must have been incredibly confused by the feelings stirring within her as well in that moment. “I see…” There was a smile on his face as his right hand moved over his heart, feeling it was still racing as he realized there was a chance. It might even be more than just a chance from the sounds of it, which meant he’d need to work even harder in order to make her his. [break][break] Their talk continued about the struggles of Hinota, something Jevi had been quite perceptive to. Junjie called him a fool as Jevi believed he was only a burden to her, but he made it clear that if this were to be the case he would have already stepped in and ensured they would not have seen each other anymore. Her worries were also natural to her as a person, much like how Jevi could worry about others himself. The fact Junjie had not kept her away from him meant that even though he was aware of the feelings between the two he did not necessarily see an issue with it. It was just that Jevi was in no position to be chosen as her husband right now. He’d need more experience in the courts, as a noble and would likely have to work on his position within the magic knights as well. How could he be chosen as her husband if he could not show her father he was worth it? “I promise I won’t.” He never had, and he wouldn’t do so in the future. On top of that he had seen how Enlil and Sumire interacted, and would take this lesson to heart like Junjie said. He had quietly thanked Junjie for his belief in him, though Junjie was not fond of him acting like this and so he straightened himself up. “I thank you for your kind words of seeing potential in me.” [break][break] Though why would he throw a tantrum? Jevi tilted his head, as Junjie mentioned his balled fist which had been made when he resolved himself, not out of anger. “I balled my fist to show my resolve to Lady Qingxuan. I will handle what I need to and more to achieve this goal. Though it is true that I am not happy with how you both speak of the teachings of the West when it comes to swordsmanship. However, I am open and curious to learning what it is I have missed all these years and what sets the East apart from the West.” It was an insult to him with the way they talked about his life’s work. He had spent fourteen years being taught this way, so to hear it being trashed like this did not sit well with him for obvious reasons. They would likely feel the same if Jevi had mocked the style of the East. For a culture so indirect, they certainly were direct when it came to mocking other cultures which was quite ironic if you asked him. That, however, was something he’d keep to himself as he was not looking to go into a further argument. These were just musings that crossed his mind, and perhaps by learning their sword style he could gain a better understanding of their culture as well. With all of that out of the way, Jevi was giving his training sword and was asked to call them Master and Mistress. It was styled after the jian sword, which usually had tassels or silk on the end to use to create distractions with. If the blade had been made of metal, it would have also been more flexible. “Thank you, Master.” Jevi had tested the sword with a swing, before sheathing it behind his belt on his left hip. [break][break] Then the dreaded talk of him not having a physical sword came up once more. Junjie was surprised he had not learned of these thin mana zones considering how well-traveled he was. They would eventually visit some of them as well during his training, to which Jevi simply nodded in acceptance. “I simply never encountered them is all.” There was nothing more to it, really. However, as Jevi explained why he didn’t have a physical sword, Junjie was even more taken aback which was clear by his facial expression. He was being berated left and right, and hearing this same argument over and over brought an anger and frustration to Jevi that was about to burst. Did they think he did not realize the danger he had put himself in? Did they truly believe him to be that stupid? Junjie continued to say it was likely the fault of his father and teachers making him belief he was special due to his magic, giving him the feeling he was untouchable, but nothing could be further from the truth. It was not even that Jevi did not want to admit it, it just simply wasn’t the reason why he had left the way he did. Apparently, this is why Junjie had been so harsh on him, to make him break free from this kind of thinking. [break][break] Jevi looked down as his fist balled itself again and his teeth were clenched. He was done being talked to like he was a first class moron, but he had himself to blame for it for never revealing the full truth. Well, the dam broke and it was likely for the best it happened with Junjie and Shi rather than with Hinota when they were on the mission. He looked up, his eyes meeting Junjie’s showing his rage and frustration clearly. “That’s enough! I'm sick and tired of hearing the same damn thing over, and over, and over again! Yes, I was a fool, but do you really think I am that stupid that I did not understand the risks?! I ran away from home, and I mean that literally! I ran for my life!” The weight of the matter began to settle in for him, as it was the first time he'd ever spoken those words out loud since his departure. "I took nothing, because I ran when I finally found the courage to do so. I did not look back, I left everything behind... my mother, my horse... a-all I had were the clothes on my back and my grimoire... b-because if I had stayed longer, I m-may very well have d-died at my f-father's hand..." The more he spoke, the more shaky his voice became. He took a second to steady his breath, explaining his situation further. "My torso and back are riddled with scars and bruises where no one can see them. Where no one will ever see them." Jevi took a deep breath, attempting to calm himself which succeeded to some degree. "I did not simply run because I hated the lessons and upbringing... I ran because I feared him. Because every beating was worse than the last, and I was afraid he would take it too far one day..." [break][break] Subconsciously, he made himself smaller, bundling together to protect himself as memories of his past plagued his mind. "If you think that man cared for anything other than me training my magic to become the strongest wizard Clover has seen you are sorely mistaken. He did not care for my love for swords, using a physical one would only take away focus from my magic. Magic means everything in this world, so that was what I needed to focus on. I had infinite swords at my fingertips anyway, so what did I need a physical one for? I'm sure if I had gotten one myself he would have taken it away... so no, I don't have a physical sword, and I never encountered places with such thin mana. All I've ever focused on was on not becoming what he wanted me to be... because how could I ever accept being something a monster like him approves of?" The anger and frustration in his eyes had faded, replaced by sadness and shame over his situation. "No one knows, except mother. I've never spoken a word of this before to anyone..." He gave both Junjie and Shi a bow in apology. "I'm sorry. Forgive me for my outburst. Please, I beg of you to keep all of this a secret. No one needs to know my shameful truth. I already regret I could no longer keep my composure, but the frustration became too much to bear." He stood back up from his bow, his eyes clearly showing the pain he carried deep within all this time. “Still, I hope that this paints a better picture than the lies I have spun to protect my family name all this time…” [break][break] It did not take Jevi too much time to push all that pain back down again, keeping his back straight. His eyes had not even teared up during or after his outburst, as it felt like somewhat of a relief to get the truth out there to someone. If it came back to bite him or his family in the ass, then that’s just the consequence he had to pay for being selfish and not keeping all of this under wraps. However, after being berated again for the same thing he could no longer keep it to himself. It likely would have been better had he never returned, considering his estate felt like hell each and every day with his father being so quiet as of late. Jevi knew it was just the quiet before the storm, but he did not know what the older Suru was planning and it made him nervous. The only reason he was able to force himself to stay was for his mother’s sake. They talked about the Clearblade, and how Hinota likely already had put in an order for him. “Right, she probably has.” It was extremely kind of her, but he would have to wait to accept such a thing until his training with Junjie was complete. That was if the man still wanted to train him now. He commented on the training sword’s weight and balance, and Jevi nodded, focusing himself on the training rather than all the things he had just spoken of. The distraction was welcome. [break][break] When he wanted to ready himself for a sparring session, Junjie stopped him and told him they were going to see something else first. Jevi blinked in confusion, but listened as Junjie asked Shi to get a servant there for them. He wanted to see how Jevi tended to his swords, which was quite difficult for him as he never needed to tend to his swords. They were magical, so they always appeared in the same condition no matter what he’d do about it. Though he had one teacher who had taught him the basics at Jevi’s own request. Till his father found out and told them to stop wasting time. He remembered the items he needed to care for a sword, and the basics of using them. Jevi put on a gentle smile, seemingly not troubled in the slightest as he put on the act he had come to know so well. The act of the man he wanted to be. “Would you be so kind as to get me some oil and a piece of cloth to take care of this sword? A rag is fine, I would not want some of Lady Honoka’s esteemed fabrics to be used as a cleaning tool.” He was even able to put in a lighthearted comment like he normally would. He turned to Junjie once the servant would go and retrieve the items he had requested. “I’d ask for a whetstone, however that will do a wooden sword no good. While I have learned the basics, I have never been able to put them into practice much. The swords made from my magic cannot be maintained, as they always appear in the same way.” And by now it would have been clear to Junjie and Shi why he had no physical sword of his own.

Junjie looked at Jevi for a moment and sighed "You need to start learning the world isn't as black and white as you believe it is, such thinking will get you killed even in your own court." he explained with a quiet tone "And nothing as clear cut as it appears on the surface, especially within our culture." he commented hoping that Jevi would take their words to heart on the matter. "I wouldn't say my mistress's flow has changed nor would I say that she is unleashed chaos but she isn't as she once was and her balance is nowhere near as it should be." he admitted, this was something else that troubled him. She was pulled so many ways while trying to be true to herself that he was surprised that she hadn't been torn apart by it all all he could do was his best to protect her when she needed it most.
"I can't argue with that perspective." he said stretching a little, he truly did need a spar but this was helping him in ways he didn't think he needed. His twin had been gone for over a month and it had been without any kind of contact, this worried him on top of everything else that was going on. He was holding a heavier burden than he expected. "I see you are curving your words since taking on your current contract Shi." he chuckled almost amused by the whole thing. "I am quite sure he would be as I know your sword and the skills that come with it do not come cheap" he added, it was clear these two had known each other for years given how they were talking to one another. "That being said, for him to have even considered those of Clover they must have met his standards." he commented thoughtfully.
"You are lucky that your mother was married to a lord and not a prince or entered the imperial harem or the imperial court would have been your life." he said with a sigh. It was something that he nor his sister would ever be able to escape as much as they wanted to, especially since that was the life of Hinota. Eventually, she would have to leave the military and he feared what would await when she did. He remained silent as Shi gave him some advice. "You've yet to find your balance and so you're off tilt, I would suggest perhaps talking to Lord Ravencrest about how to navigate the noble courts." he said calmly, if he was honest with himself he was feeling the same way of late in regards to being off balance but that was due to things outside his control.
It was true the pair were tearing down the swordsmen of Clover in general but there was a reason for this and it wasn't cultural as much as it may seem like it. It came down to how they, themselves were trained, the expectations put on them and the punishments for failure for perfection. It meant that when they came across even above-average swordsmen or swordmasters in their own culture they failed to impress, however, he could see why Jevi may find it targetted towards the swords people of Clover as that's where it seemed directed but that was only because they were inside Clover so those where the swords people they generally came across. "On duty do as she asks on the yuiee estate please use her title." he clarified, Jevi wasn't of the east and so outside of the estate bore no real punishment for not calling her by her title.
"The balling of hands at one's side is a sign of aggression and anger, add this with the words that she can never return your feelings and you can understand why I spoke the words I did." he said simply he said crossing his arms. "For all I am blunt, I am not callous and do give credit where it is due." he said his voice calm as he listened to Jevi and sighed "You understand little of my thought process Jevi and yet you are here talking as if you do." he commented before sighing "I speak the way I do even to Eastern swords people." he said his eyes closing "Do I believe that the western way is sloppy? Yes, but that doesn't mean I don't believe there aren't masters of the craft here in the west." he admitted.
"I also find many in the East sloppy in their styles and techniques..." he admitted opening his eyes and looking directly at Jevi "It doesn't take away that they too might be masters of their craft." he said his tone completely serious on the matter "The only reason why my comments seem targeted to those in the west is that those are the people I will end up training against and more often than not I need to hold back." he turned his head away "I understand and respect you had a lot of expectations placed upon you, but you speak like you are the only one who has ever had such burdens placed on them." his tone was cold as he spoke. The conversation once again turned to his lack of sword and the disbelief that he would leave home without a weapon, it was then what Junjie had been waiting for happened.
Jevi unleashed the pain, anguish and anger that lay beneath the calm surface. "And there it is..." he said more to himself than anyone else as he listened to Jevi tell them about everything from his passed. He would wait until Jevi had let everything out and moved over to him "Feel better?" he would ask his voice calm. "Jevi... some of us don't have the luxury of running away from that kind of abuse, we must stick it out and that's why we come across as having a superiority complex." he explained looking to the side as if he was contemplating something with himself "What I'm about to say never gets repeated by either of you because if it does you've signed your death warrant because I will kill you myself." his tone showed that this wasn't an idle threat but a promise, once the two had agreed he sighed nodding.
"First thing..." be began showing this was something he was still finding difficult to speak about "The day the princess was told she would either marry or if she insisted on being a member of the magic knights she would become a member of the Blue Rose squad so her mother could watch over her she ran off of the estate." he admitted "She had planned on running away completely but an interaction with the former captain of her current squad made her believe that she could walk off the path designated for her and offered her a place within his. She accepted and he even gave his mantle which she still wears to this day." he began. "Once she returned home her father was furious when he found out what she had done, he beat her and this wasn't just a "don't do it again" beating, it was savage... so savage that it should have taken her light from this world." he said his voice trembling.
"If I had been even..." he shook his head, his face showing shame "even a second later she would have died." he confessed, "I am not the strongest in healing but I managed to get her away from the danger she was in and my twin sister Luli nursed her to health with the medicine she made." showing that his sister was much more than an average matron. "I've remained quiet on who saved her that day, she doesn't even know it was my sister's medicine that helped her. She believes it was her father who took mercy on her." he said looking away, he was struggling with this. A secret that had never been spoken to anyone but he needed Jevi to understand fully just what they had been saying and that they truly couldn't run from their responsibilities.
"Do forgive me for what I'm about to do Shi." he knew she would understand why in a moment but it was still polite to give her warning due to her gender. He began to undo his top "My mistress fears her family Jevi because of that one event, it is mine and my sister's duty to protect the princess from any threat regardless of whom that threat might be." he stated finally removing his top and carefully hanging it from a tree. Jevi and Shi would be able to see the roadmap of abuse on his body, some scars, burns and markings years old or faint, others were at various stages of healing and of different years while some were likely from that very day. It wasn't even just on his back but his torso and arms. "Like I said I understand and respect you have had expectations placed upon you but you aren't the only one." he said allowing Jevi to see his own body.
"Any small infraction, any wasted action, any unneeded movement, any failure was severely punished and not just by my teachers but by my father and the head of the Yuiee. There were days I couldn't fulfil my duties because I was so badly injured and that brought more punishment." he explained "I am a lord of the imperial court Jevi..." he said reaching for his top so he could dress once more, he had another role but that was a mask no one would see. "But I am also a servant, the first son of the steward's family is meant to be the bodyguard of the Yuiee's heir by tradition." he explained showing he should be Ozma's bodyguard "However, it was decided by his majesty the emperor who still resides at home that I would be better suited to protecting princess yuiee and so his son done as was ordered of him." he explained doing his top up.
"I started training at age three, I started my training to be my mistress's bodyguard at age five and have served her since." he said being completely honest with him "Regardless of the strict training, the pain and suffering I went through for any infraction or failure to know she was happy and safe was worth it to me." he said walking forward towards the pair "This... This is why I find all swordsmen and swordswomen sloppy and why I find most masters average at best. It has nothing to do with culture or race but my upbringing, my training and the expectations placed on me." he said hoping that he would finally understand why he was how he was. "I have died several times over the years due to my injuries, my sister has a healing item the princess gifted her one year that she uses to resurrect me." he said quietly "I suspect is because she was worried about me and my long absences at times." he admitted.
He returned the bow "There's nothing to forgive my student, I poked and prodded because I needed you to let go of that anger and frustration, you could not improve with it weighing on you." he said his voice calm as he stood straight "I don't know of what you speak of we just had a minor disagreement." he said calmly as Shi called over a servant. "That is how my mistress is Jevi, you should get used to it." he commented, he listened to what Jevi asked for and looked to the maid "Could I have rubbing alcohol, purified water, boiled linseed oil, one average cotton swatch, one soft cotton swatch, one silk swatch and a small bowl talc." he said to the woman bowing watching to walk away. "I just want to see how you take care of a blade not how you sharpen it." he explained to him sitting down on the ground taking the sword from his side and placing it beside him as he sat down. It was clear just by the items they each had chosen that there was a difference in how they cared for their blades and this would be his first lesson.

"you are welcome Jevi." Spoke shi seeing as he listened to her words. "Be true to yourself but know some people out there will make their words sharper then any blade and will ensure they strike your heart without a second thought" she said with a smile before falling silent listening to jevi and junjie speak. She heard junjie's tease as she chuckled " just attempting to give the young miss a better light in this new land she wishes to know for another who calls out to her heart is all" She said gently
This was there moment. While she will help jevi train when junjie was not available or able to. Junjie was his main teacher since it was all for the maiden's heart that Jevi wanted to learn, wanted to know and be part of. she then turned her train of thought back to jevi when he spoke of the way she saw things when it came to clover and its swordsmanship. "Let me tell you right here, right now lord Suru on my own reasonings for my views. There are men in clover I hold massive respect for that wield their blades, most of them have never graced my homeland or know the ways we live by. The men I talk about and dislike are the ones who flaunt their skills. When Lord Honoka was looking for a proper bodyguard, that could watch over sumire after the 'unexpected trip' to the forsaken region. I face both apprentice and masters back home and here to ensure both sides of her family approved of me, It is just the way they wished to ensure their investment was right. So when I say they can do better. It is towards those I have faced, I have never faced you or your skill. until I see and test your blade myself I can not speak on you and your skill." She spoke ensuring he knew where she stood on the matter. She might have chosen1 her words wrong as a general over all without explaining. She should have been clearer and near down the view. a thing she would do next time.
She then listened to the sudden damn finally breaking as she listened as her eyes softened then closed. this story was much like her own. It did hit close to her home. close to her own story. but now was not the time to open her old wounds. this meeting wasn't about her, it was for jevi and for junjie, to help them close the gaps to get jevi to a better place, to be a better swordsman. and in turn she listened to junjie speak of something he threatened to end her and him if spoken again. "I respect you and the imperials enough to know that it is above my paygrade and not worth speaking even beyond the grave." she spoke in respect as she listened to Junjie's words listening to his tale. it was a terrible one and not something anyone would ever get to know let alone to see junjie still so worked up about it. She honestly would too. After all, one can grow attached when another cares about them to be more then just a blade.
She looked towards the workshop where sumire basically lived at this point. It was away from the world, a private place with her fabrics. She seen some of the punishments Sumire had received but nothing to a point of nearly dying. now and days a lot of the punishment is wearing garments that were not her own makings for minor things. there were times more needed punishments were necessary but she was thankful none was so sever, it might actually break the dead heart she held inside.
She listened to junjie continue to then explain his own upbringing and his views on happenings. It truly was just like looking into a mirror, it was a meeting of two worlds both wishing for the same thing but seeing it from different angles. Truly it was a sight to be seen and she was happy to see some ground work being made.
It was then she was asked to call a servant over as the servant asked what supplies would be requested of her. The servant listened to jevi then to junjie as she nodded and bowed " Right away." She spoke turning immediately on her heels moving quickly and quietly inside coming back out after ten minutes with two small baskets one for each swordsman as she bowed setting them down
"You may go." Spoke shi as the servant nodded before quickly making way to sumire's workshop where the manabeast took her original basket.

[attr="class","raescroll"] All of Junjie’s words were taken to heart by Jevi. Having to learn the world was not as black and white, especially in their culture, was something he understood. It was his own, strong moral compass and convictions that often made it seem more black and white than it was. Jevi had always had strong opinions, and tried to live his life in a way he believed was good. That was also the question most of the mythological and philosophical works he read revolved around in the end. How does one live their life in a proper way? It was a question that kept him busy, and it is why he had developed a strong sense of right and wrong that he tried to adhere by. Even so, he knew that the situation could influence what was right and wrong in that moment, and unlike some philosophers he believed nuance was far more important than they made it seem in their works. However, the job of a philosopher was to find that one-size-fits-all solution that they craved. But after reading countless of works, Jevi knew that simply did not exist. “I’ll thread with more caution in the future.” As for Hinota’s current state, he did feel responsible for throwing her life off balance. However, if there had been no doubts on her end he would have never been able to do so, so it was not entirely on him but also on the others around her. [break][break] Jevi listened to both Junjie and Shi speak of the swordsmen of Clover, and started to get a bit agitated with how they addressed people from his culture. Apparently, Junjie had seen how off balance Jevi was as well and suggested he’d request Lord Ravencrest for help when it came to navigating his own kingdom’s noble court. “Lord Ravencrest has not been well as of late, but perhaps once he has recovered I can ask him for his guidance. I’m sure he would at the very least hear me out.” Hania may seem cold to most, but after hearing about the man from Hinota and having met him on a few occasions Jevi knew that he did care for the world around him. Jevi also took Junjie’s lesson of calling Hinota by her title to heart, and understood that he could follow her lead when on duty. If he ended up visiting her estate, though, he would need to adhere to their rules even if Hinota would not like it. “That makes sense to me, and I’m sure Princess Yuiee will understand as well.” She might not like it, but she knew her culture’s rules and traditions, and due to that she would have to understand why Jevi would have to follow such rules as well. He knew she wouldn’t want him to get in trouble either, so she simply had no choice but to accept it. [break][break] Junjie was not entirely wrong about Jevi’s fist being balled in slight anger, mostly due to how they were talking so mockingly about his culture and people, not to mention their ways of the sword. Junjie did a good job explaining why he believed what he did, not just on Jevi’s mannerism but also on his opinion of the swordsmen of the West. Just like Junjie did not know all about Jevi, Jevi did not know all about him and what made him tick. He spoke the same way about people of the East, and while he believed the ways of the West were sloppy that did not mean he didn’t think there were Masters of their craft among them. Junjie found often that he needed to hold back when going against other swordsmen, and that’s where his opinions came from. While he understood Jevi had a lot of expectations put on him, he wanted him to stop acting like he was the only one to have to endure such a thing. Shi chimed in as well, explaining that her words were only for those she had faced and not for all of them as a whole. She had not faced Jevi yet, and therefore her words did not apply to him. “I apologize to you both for my assumptions, and thank you for explaining your point of view to me.” Jevi gave them both a slight bow. He was nothing if not quick to adapt and understand, and with a little explanation he could easily put such perceived slights behind him. [break][break] However, when the conversation turned back to Jevi not having a physical sword, as well as having made incredibly stupid decisions by running away, the walls he had built so carefully finally cracked. This was not just due to this instance, but had been building up ever since he had returned to his estate. From Hinota’s questioning to Junjie’s mocking of his swords and skills to now once again being seen as an idiot finally got to him. Jevi had carefully spun a story to protect his family name, making people believe he had been too weak to withstand the strict upbringing of his father and was just a rebellious young man in nature. But especially to fellow swordsmen like Junjie and Shi he could not take being seen as such, and with his frustration hitting a breaking point he finally let out everything from his past for the first time. He explained how he had to run for his life, how his father had actively kept him from focusing on swordsmanship and that he had felt like there was simply no other choice for him than to leave everything behind. It was dangerous, yes, but in his mind it had been no more dangerous than staying at his estate. Jevi had always carried this burden with a smile on his face, but everyone had a breaking point and Junjie had finally succeeded in getting to Jevi’s. [break][break] While he ranted he had not even noticed Junjie had said anything, and as he recovered from his outburst Junjie spoke in a calm voice that did help soothe him a bit. Especially when he was asked if he was feeling better. Jevi nodded, calming his breathing as he answered. “Yes…” It felt like a relief to finally let the truth out. Now there was at least someone other than his mother who knew about what he had gone through. Junjie explained that not everyone had the luxury of running away from abuse, and those that had to stick it out and go through it may look like they have a superiority complex because of it. The man took a moment to contemplate something, before he swore both Shi and Jevi to secrecy about what he was about to divulge to them. Shi readily agreed, and Jevi did as well. “You have my word, Master. Your secret is safe with me.” His words were genuine, as Jevi felt a great deal of loyalty towards Junjie which only grew the more he got to know the man. The fact he had listened to his past without judgement, and even showed his care afterwards was enough to show to Jevi that Junjie did respect him and took him seriously. [break][break] Though nothing could have prepared Jevi for the story he was about to hear. Junjie told them both about Hinota’s past, and how she too had intended to run away from her estate just like Jevi had done. However, due to interference from the former Golden Dawn captain she started to believe she could walk a path all her own and accepted a place within the Golden Dawn. This was not the squad her parents wanted her to join, and it had made her father furious to the point where he had beaten her so badly she was left for death. Jevi’s eyes would betray his shock as they widened a bit, but he remained quiet and listened to Junjie with a heavy heart. It was Junjie who had ended up saving her together with Luli. If they had even been a second later she would have died on that very day. Even to this day, Hinota did not know it was Junjie and Luli who saved her, but believed her father had taken mercy on her. That was something that monster of a man did not deserve, but Jevi understood that Junjie wished to keep that truth from her in order to protect her. It was clear how much Junjie struggled with all of this, and how guilty he must have felt for letting it get so far. Jevi spoke softly, his right hand over his heart. “Thank the Gods you made it in time…” There was not much else he could say on the matter, especially when he still felt shocked by the story itself. [break][break] Junjie then continued to share more with them, showing his own scars that littered his body as well while he explained Hinota feared her family due to that day. It was his and his sister’s job to keep her safe from any threat, regardless of what or who that threat was. Once again Junjie reiterated that he understood and respected that Jevi had expectations put on him, but he needed to know he was not the only one. For every small thing Junjie had done wrong, he had been beaten, just like Jevi had. They had shared a similar fate, expect Junjie had not been able to run away from his abusers like Jevi had. There were even days he was so hurt that he couldn’t perform his duties, which just ended up in being punished more. While he was a lord of the Imperial court, he was also a servant, and by tradition he should have been Ozma’s retainer. However, the emperor had decided he was better suited to work for Princess Yuiee, and so he was ordered to do so. [break][break] There was a frown on Jevi’s face as he listened, feeling bad for everything Junjie had been through. No one deserved such a fate, and he could empathize with his Master considering their similar situations. He had gone through all of that pain and suffering, but knowing Hinota was happy made that all worth it. That’s how Jevi felt about his current endeavors as well. It was not easy by any means, but if he could end up bringing some light to Hinota then it would all be worth it. Due to his strict and heavy training, he viewed most swordsmen as sloppy and saw Masters as average at best. Jevi finally understood now that Junjie was not simply arrogant, he simply had been through much more than most of them and had been forced to become better than essentially all others due to his position. To hear he had even died several times was shocking, but thankfully through Hinota’s magic they had been able to resurrect him each and every time. “Master…” Jevi had to swallow the lump in his throat, keeping himself from letting tears flow before he spoke again in a clear voice. “Thank you for sharing this story. I feel like I understand you much better now, and I swear my loyalty to you as student and ally. I shall be there to call upon if you ever find the need.” While he knew Junjie was more than likely capable of dealing with things himself, he still wanted Junjie to know that he’d always be in the man’s corner from here on out. [break][break] Now came the time for Jevi to apologize for his own outburst, and he asked both Junjie and Shi to keep his secret as well. He still felt great shame for what he had done, and what he hadn’t done. Junjie’s response brought a smile to his face as the man told him there was nothing to forgive. He had been poking and prodding Jevi so he could finally let go of those burdens in some way so he could start improving. He continued to say he had no idea what Jevi spoke of, as they simply had a minor disagreement just now. Jevi could not help but chuckle lightly, nodding in agreement. “Thank you, Master.” He’d be forever grateful to Junjie for pressing him in this manner and forcing him to break down. It was something he did not realize he needed, but after all of this he felt much lighter. With the drama out of the way, his lessons were to continue and so he asked the maid for oil and some cloth as well. He’d make do with a rag if needed, though Junjie asked for far more equipment than Jevi thought was needed. What he wanted was to see how Jevi took care of a blade, not how he sharpened it. Jevi explained that his magical swords, the only ones he had used, did not require maintenance, so this was going to be quite the learning experience. [break][break] The servant came back quickly with two baskets. Shi told them they could leave again and Jevi moved to sit down on the ground near the basket, taking his wooden training sword into his lap. “Is it alright if I use some of your materials, Master? I was not sure how much I could have asked for, so I decided to keep it to a minimum.” He did not want to overstep his boundaries on an estate he was not familiar at. Assuming it was alright, Jevi took a moment to look over the material Junjie had requested. While he had virtually no practical experience with sword care, he had read about it due to his interest. He knew what most of the things were used for. Cotton to clean it at first of any old oils. A second for the talc. The linseed oil and silk were then used to coat the blade once more. However, the water puzzled him. Regardless, he began to follow the procedures he had read about and used some cotton to clean his wooden training sword. [break][break] Naturally, he skipped the water and ended up not using it as he used the second piece of cotton to apply the talc to the blade before cleaning off the excess with the clean side of the cotton. Next was reapplying the oil, which he put on one half of the silk and began to polish the blade carefully while keeping his fingers from making direct contact with the blade. Lastly he cleaned off the excess oil with the clean part of the silk, finishing up his job. He remained seated, looking back up to Junjie and Shi. “I cannot say I ever read about water being used, I thought moisture was considered bad for swords as it can corrode them over time… I hope my other actions were the correct ones, I only ever read about sword maintenance, I have had little to no hands on experience with it.” At least they understood the reason why now, which made him feel far less awkward in admitting to the things he did not know.

After hearing Junjie’s story, he swears his loyalty to the man as student and ally before they continue on with his training. He does what he has read about with the items Junjie had provided, not understanding what the water is for however and explaining that he only followed the steps he knew from books as he has almost no hands on experience.
