The last time Artemis had been in Kikka was during the Magic Knights Exams. That had been an interesting time for the once member and now a Vice Captain of the Green Mantis. She had been introduced before by the Captain, Barron “Hannibal” Castle, as one of the rising stars within the Green Mantises. At least, that was how she took it. Truly, the man had been an enigma then, having only had interactions with him during briefings of her missions that were higher in their rank in comparison to the rest. Those had been the extent of her conversations with the veteran of the Diamond War. So, when he had called on her to join him at the Captain’s terrace, she had been surprised. Artemis supposed it had worked in her favour at the end of the day. She had already decided to attend the Magic Knights Exams anyway, having wanted to see if there were any new Green Mantis members to be recruited. She had also sent a handful of participants to this event, though one of them had not showed up. Artemis would think that the woman had been preoccupied. Perhaps she had decided not to join the Magic Knights, after all, having left in not the best state. But, at the end of the day, the Green Mantises were able to nab more than a handful of the new recruits. It had bolstered the roster of the Green Mantis Magic Knights, which had been lacking activity for a bit now. [break][break] “Towards a new future.” Artemis would whisper to herself as she made her way towards the circus that had been erected just a few weeks after the Magic Knights Exams. It seems that a few business minded people had thought that keeping the people entertained after the Magic Knights Exams was a good idea. The high was still there, and those who had visited had yet to leave the town. They had been quick to nab their spot, and to quickly hire the circus to come and set up shop. From what Artemis had heard, they had been the attraction of the whole region. The Common Region was not known for its obscene wealth, no that was the Noble Region that was known for its unnecessary amounts of Yul passing through pockets. However, the Common Region was still filled with the lesser nobility, as well as merchants and tradesmen who had enough disposable income to spend on their days off. Unlike the Forsaken Region, which would not have had as much money to spend, there was enough business and wealth going around the Common Region for the people to be able to afford going to the circus and paying for the attractions. The people had been enjoying their time, distracting themselves from whatever worries they had, and living the best of their lives. However, when a Magic Knight was called to settle an issue, it told Artemis that something had gone terribly wrong. Especially when she was called in with such short notice.[break][break]
Having used one of the spatial mages of the Green Mantis, Artemis only needed to actually take a few turns to arrive at the circus proper. She had been briefed quite hurriedly about what she was supposed to expect. While the reports were coming in with broken information, she was at least able to make out that animals were on the loose. She knew just how dangerous some of the circus animals can be. After all, she was a part of the lesser nobility, the Somerset family, whom had hosted parties once or twice with circus animals involved as entertainment. From what she could remember, these animals can be considered mana beasts in and of themselves. That was the reason why they were dangerous, after all. Most of the citizens who might be within the tents of the circus would not have been able to actually do anything about the creatures. They might be able to slow them down at the best scenario, and the worst scenario was them being mauled and played by these beasts. It was one of the reasons why Artemis had requested one of the spatial mages of the squad to quickly transport her into the area. The urgency was there, and if it was not so urgent, she would have either taken her broom or one of her golems. She enjoyed the trip to and from missions, after all. The only regret she had was that the spatial mage that had been available had only the ability to open a portal in the center of town, and not anywhere closer to the outskirts. At the end of the day, she made do, and here she was.[break][break]
“What the-” Artemis evaded to one side as she was assaulted by what appeared to be a lizard of some sort. It was then that she realized just how much damage has been done to the circus. From what she could see, there were authorities already running around the place, trying not only to placate the citizens, but to also fight back the creatures that seemed to be all running around rampantly. Artemis herself had to jump to the side once more as she evaded the lizard that had tried to once again jump her with claws that were aflame. Quickly, she would use her grimoire and pour mana into it as she cast her spell.[break][break]
“Scylla.”[break][break]
Two swords made of water materialized in front of her. Quickly, Artemis grabbed both swords, one in each hand, as she charged against the lizard. The lizard, for its part, would cry out with its call. Artemis could only think of the consequences of letting the lizard make its cry, as she stabbed the creature straight through its chest, killing it in an instant. As the limp body of the lizard fell on the ground with a loud thud, Artemis could finally sense the result of the lizard’s desperate cry. Turning around, Artemis would be face to face with not one, but five other flaming lizards. And from what Artemis could see, they were not happy that one of their own had been felled by the water based Magic Knight.
Name of Spell: Scylla[break] Elemental Type: Water[break] Rank & Spell Type: Grand | Attack Creation & Sensory (Illusion)[break] Range & Speed: 150 meters | 85 m/s | 110 m AOE[break] Mana Cost: 50 | 25[break] Stats Effected: Power +12, Blinds, -12 Sensory[break] Applicable Perks: Area of Triumph, Battle Knight, Master Illusionist, Quick Shot, Apex Predator[break] Description: Scylla is a spell that conjures and manipulates water, turning them into swords that surround Artemis. The swords are very sharp, and are very deadly. Through ammo rules, Artemis usually creates more than one, with the limit based on the amount of control she has. While she can use the swords in a physical fight, she oftentimes manipulates the swords with her mana, using it to fight enemies from afar. If she chooses to, Artemis can make a sword explode in a shower of pin-sized needles, causing an AOE effect. At first hit, opponents are blinded by the water that hits their eyes. The blind effect only happens once per opponent. Scylla is coated with an illusion, making them very hard to see, hear, and smell, and sense with mana. Finally, they are able to home in on their intended target because of the user's Sensory. Those hit by the spell will also have their sensory debuffed, following on debuff rules.[break]
Artemis would look around for a moment. At this point, she knew that she was trapped. At least pushed into a corner. The woman was faced with five of the flamingo lizard, all of them billowing smoke from their nostrils. Artemis knew what would come next, especially since she felt the mana build up around her. It was no surprise to her that fire element mana beasts could breathe fire, and she had expected it.[break][break]
Without warning, the fire lizards were upon her. The first three had been more reserved than the last two that had arrived. The first three lizards made sure to have enough of their mana already ready, before they belched fire at Artemis. The fire was very hot to the touch, and Artemis would equate to a spell at a senior mage’s rank. She would understand there and then why the citizens and even those who worked for the circus, who were supposed to be able to handle these beasts, be powerless to stop them when they went out of control. Nobody in their right minds would voluntarily try to combat these creatures toe to toe. Even Artemis knew that she needed to divide and conquer. Her magical prowess, while mostly precise, were also very destructive. This meant that she needed to be more careful about which spells to use against these creatures. She needed to be more selective, and to be more precise when she launched attacks. It would do no good if she was able to defeat all the creatures but also cause untold damage. [break][break]
Artemis would quickly dodge to the right, trying to dodge out of the way of the first fire breath that had tried to envelop her form. It was close, too close. Artemis held her breath, trying not to breath in the fumes that came with the fire breath. She had to be careful at this point, both with inhaling any toxic fumes, and trying not to get hit. These beasts were quite fast, and Artemis found herself being pushed to the limit. These beasts seemed to be the same speed as herself, and she found herself hard pressed.[break][break]
“These mana beasts..” The Vice Captain of the Green Mantises would curse, before she dodged one more of the fire breaths, stumbling to the side as she made to roll and recover. The problem became prevalent that she was starting to be overwhelmed by their numbers. She still had her Scylla swords, but she had not been able to get close at all. The heat that they emanate from their bodies would keep her at bay, while their constant snapping and fire breaths would make her dodge out of the way when she had found a good opening. It was going to be a hard pressed battle, and she knew that this was just the beginning. [break][break]
It was then that opportunity presented itself.[break][break]
Artemis found one of the lizards about to breathe another round of fire blast, and had exposed it’s underbelly. The rest of its brethren were too far from it to actually defend it, and so Artemis struck. Using her regular speed, she was able to get close enough while ducking under the swipes of its brethren. With the momentum of her run, she leapt forward and sent the Scylla sword straight through the creature’s abdomen. It cried out loud, stunning those around it. With its cry, came its downfall. There seemed to be a pause as the other lizards were collectively watching their brethren’s body go limp. Artemis knew that there was no better chance than to attack now. [break][break]
With her grimoire alight, Artemis would call upon one of her more area of effect spells that was not damaging to the terrain. This had been the only time she had been given the opportunity to actually cast a spell, and she would not be wasting it.[break][break] “Desert’s Mirage.”[break][break]
Water started to form around the area. From what Artemis knew of her spell, which was once quite different from what it was now, the effect remained the same. She had not been able to test it on anybody, so this will be the newly improved spell’s test run. She would pour the mana, catching all of the lizard’s in surprise. As the water droplets surrounded the area, Artemis watched the lizards start to go stiff. Then they started to struggle against an invisible enemy. Artemis knew what the illusion was. After all, she was the architect of this spell. It was the damaging portion of the spell that she had been unsure of. Her spell repertoire had been more aggressive recently, and she knew that his spell followed the theme of her other spells. [break][break]
As the illusion took hold, so did the damaging portion of the spell. Artemis kept the spell up and watched as the lizards started to be assaulted by the water droplets around her. It would take them out one after another, with them trying to crawl away, yet be unable to as the spell completely took them down. Their bodies would thud on the ground loudly, causing a stir as the bystanders who were once running around now watched as the Vice Captain of the Green Mantis Magic Knights Squad take out a group by herself. It would elicit gasps, before cheers started to work its way throughout the small crowd. Artemis herself would send the group a glare, before shouting, “Get to safety! There is nothing to see here but death. And you will follow suit if you do not get to safety!” It would jolt the crowd into action, and within moments, the whole of them would scurry away as quick as they can to find safety. Artemis would watch them all go, before turning her attention back towards the group of lizards she had just killed. She was making sure they would make a resurgence, before removing on. [break][break]
After satisfying her curiosity if the lizards were actually all dead, Artemis would look forward, looking for her next quarry.

Name of Spell: Desert's Mirage[break] Elemental Type: Water[break] Rank & Spell Type: Senior | Sensory (Illusion) & Attack Creation[break] Range & Speed: 80m | 70m AOE[break] Mana Cost: 30 | 15[break] Stats Effected: +9 Power, -9 Sensory[break] Applicable Perks: Master Illusionist, Area of Triumph, Apex Predator, Battle Knight[break] Description: Artemis utilizes her control over water causing droplets of water, very minuscule in size, to appear in an area. These miniscule droplets of water are laced with illusion and attack magic. Those within the area are caught within the illusion that turns their surroundings into a desert. The illusion itself tricks three senses: sight, sound and mana sensing. The miniscule droplets of water also causes those within the area to feel as though that the scorching sand and the sun was burning them, as the water pelts their skin in pinpricks, damaging them at a senior level. Through sensory, Artemis is able to pinpoint opponents and target them specifically. She is also able to utilize ammo rule to conjure more than one Desert's Mirage, following ammo rules on damage. The spell also follows ammo rule on avoiding allies.[break][break]
It was then that she felt something stalking her. [break][break]
Artemis looked around, unsure if it was just her natural sensory magic picking up random movements, though she was sure that it must be something else. The problem with having a high affinity to sensory magic was that sometimes it was hard to filter out what is a true threat and what is not. Especially in a place like this where at every corner, Artemis found the destruction that was left by the beasts that had somehow gotten loose and were now running rampant. People were also running about, while more than a couple seemed to be leading the effort. Artemis was glad that she did not have to do all of those things on top of taking care of these creatures. It suited her well, only keeping herself towards the combat oriented part of the operation. It seems that the request came at a fortuitous time, especially since it had been Artemis who had been able to respond to the call. If any other Green Mantis Magic Knight has answered, Artemis was not sure whether they could have finished this job quite as easily. It would take a group, instead, which would have been too much time spent working out. No, it had been good that she responded, it suited her repertoire as an offensive type Magic Knight.[break][break]
There it was again.[break][break]
Artemis luck hold her sword up now, both of them pointed towards the direction that Artemis had felt a movement at. Looking towards that direction, Artemis saw nothing at all. It was starting to annoy the woman, and therefore she was forced to finally use her Ki sensing. While it had been hard before trying to use Ki combat, it had become easier and easier with each passing instance. As she closed her eyes this time, her ability to use Ki immediately activated without needing any coaxing what so ever. It was then that she realized that she was indeed being followed, and the beasts that were following her were now just about to use one of their appendages to attack her. Artemis would quickly hop away, and at the same time slashing her sword at the direction of where the appendage has been previously, rewarding her with a piercing cry and a soft thud of a body collapsing. From what she could see, it was a scorpion like mana beast that had been about to sting her. And it’s magic seemed to be attuned to illusion, which had been the reason why her senses had been warning her of a danger. [break][break]
She would look around, finally realizing that four other scorpions had been following her. They were now surround Artemis on all four cardinal positions. They were smart, at the very least, and less distracted than the lizards who were easily disturbed by one of their falling and dying. No, these scorpions did it even glance at their fallen brethren. Instead, one of their one had walked past the dead body and took the position that the now dead scorpion had been occupying. It seems as though that Artemis was going to be in a fight that she will not be able to get out of. Though she really did not mind. These mana beasts were running rampant, and therefore needed to be stopped. As one of the more accomplished illusion mages within the Clover Kingdom, Artemis knew that she was the best one to be fighting against these illusion based mana beasts. After all, their magic will not work on her, now that she knew what to look for.[break][break]
It was then that the first one struck. It’s sting was pointed towards Artemis, and she quickly dodged to the left, letting it pass her left shoulder just by a hair. From what she observed, these scorpions were just a tad bit slower than the lizards, which meant that she could actually outmaneuver them being faster than them. She would weave to the side of the first attacking scorpion, and lunging with the Scylla, stabbing it in the eye and making it fall with another soft thud. It was less than a second later that she found herself dodging another attack, her Ki senses tracking the movement as she dodged low. [break][break]
Leaping upwards, Artemis would use the momentum and stab the second scorpion on the head, killing it instantly. This left two more, though she knew that she had the upper hand now. Interestingly, one of the scorpions had tried to stab her while she had her Scylla sword still stabbed into the second scorpion. Artemis quickly pulled the sword out and grabbed onto the appendage that had tried to sting her. It would thrash around, trying to get Artemis off, only for the Vice Captain to use the momentum and lunge towards its remaining brethren, slicing into it like butter. [break][break]
Without pause, Artemis threw her second Scylla sword towards the last scorpion, ending its life without it being able to defend.

Artemis would look around, before needing to dodge backwards as another mana beast joined the fray. This time, it was a huge creature that looked like a mush of everything. It had thorns all over its body, while it’s appendages dripped blood all over the ground. It was a horrendous sight, and Artemis found herself equating it to the creatures she had encountered inside the dungeons that she had delved into. [break][break]
The creature would open its maw, before charging at Artemis with immense speed. It was fast, as fast as the lizards, and Artemis would be hard pressed to dodge. She was able to, only just in time as the creature swiped at her from the left. She had ducked then, before settling into a roll. The problem started to occur where she found herself cornered, unable to cast another spell as she was now more preoccupied not getting it. All she had were her two Scylla swords, which she knew should be enough. Yet, she needed to still find an opening. That would be the challenge at this point.[break][break]
The mana beast, which would be known in the future as the Thorny Death Beast, would run towards Artemis once more. She would realize that there was nothing for it, and held her Scylla sword up and ran towards the creature head on. She supposed that she would need to make her own opening instead, which was fine by her. This way, she might be able to dictate the state of the battlefield. The trick, however, was to outmaneuver the mana beasts. Or in this case, try to at least outsmart it.[break][break]
Artemis and the Thorny Death Beast clashed, its appendage was stopped by Artemis’ first Scylla sword. It did not damage, and it looked as if the Scylla sword was actually about to give away from the strength of the mana beast’s attack. Artemis’ eyes would widen a little bit, before she would disengage from the mana beast. It was a quick clash that ended in a draw, though the mana beast was upon her again. This time, Artemis chose to dodge low, and try her best to get inside the defense of the mana beast. It seemed as though that the act had not been expected. Artemis was able to find a small hole in it’s reach, while its arm was held forward trying to reach for the Vice Captain.[break][break]
With a stab straight through its heart, Artemis had to leap backwards avoiding the thrashing of the creature. Artemis would watch it trying to pry Scylla out, before slowly kneeling, and then falling face first. Blood dripped from its body, though artemis was sure that it was not its magic, as the life force from the mana beast had dissipated. She would breathe a sigh of relief, before turning her attention towards the circus itself. Everything seemed to be tattered and torn, though for the most part, the tents farther away from the epicentre of the rampage had been untouched. Artemis had not been told to keep damage to a minimum, though she did anyway. She knew that it would be less of a pain later when she finally reported the success of the mission.[break][break]
Looking behind her, Artemis found herself staring at the carnage that she had left behind. The bodies of the scorpions were still there, bent and broken. The lizard mana beasts’ bodies were riddled with holes, none of them going to be moving at all from the extent of the damages. She would hear a sound, and turned towards a man who was dressed nicely. Artemis would nod, before saying, “The beasts are done for. Nothing to salvage here.” She would shake her head, “I will be reporting this to the Magic Knights. Please be advised that while the danger has passed, you might still want to take great care.” Artemis then turned away and started her way back to the Green Mantis base to report the success of the mission.
