Name: Master of Archeology [SR]
Description: The temple has been reached- a towering old pyramid of black stone, covered in giant vines and mosses. A long staircase leads up into what seems to be the entrance of the dangerous pyramid, filled with live traps. At the center lies a golden statue of a black mamba, with eerie red gems for eyes. If the statue is picked up by anyone other Ilhiana Vones, the temple mission would turn into a “Run away before you’re forever trapped inside of the temple and die.”
Minimum Number of Players: 1
Minimum Word Count: 2500 per person
Location: The Forsaken Region
NPC Information:
Enemies: Reanimated Skeleton Explorers x 10 per Magic Knight
Ylvehla [Boss] x 1
The Reanimated Skeleton Explorers are adventurers that died within the walls of the temple many ages ago and were influenced by the dark magic essences around the location. They have intermediate health, move at 10 m/s and have the ability to cast the magic that they had within life! Most of them use attack creation and physical reinforcement magic from copper and bronze elements.
Ylvehla, the dangerous black mamba to whom this temple belongs to, slithers silently around the inside in its undeath. A bony husk, reanimated through dark worship, the creature is inherently evil and impossible to fully kill unless the Magic Knights use silver magic. Once its Health drops to zero, it will stay dead for 5 posts before reanimating again. It has grand rank health and deals senior rank damage with its venomous bite, which causes a hex upon anyone that has become its victim. Ylvehla is impossible to see by mages with under 30 sensory unless it has already attacked someone. It moves with a speed of 20 m/s.
Special Conditions: All damage taken in the previous mission by the Magic Knights and the party of adventurers will remain going into this mission. There is a very short rest between the end of the last mission and this one, but not enough for health or mana skin to recover.
The mission is only a success if Ilhiana gets the statue and escapes with it (along with the Magic Knights and as many of the adventuring party as possible).
Upon completing this mission chain the players achieve the Notable Achievement "Crusaders of Archaeology". [break][break]

The expedition party made their way down the forest, eventually reaching the location of the temple. An old pyramid of black stone covered in vines and mosses. As the group made their way to the entrance of the temple. Ilhiana warned the group about possible traps and advised the group to be careful about where they stepped. Being at the entrance of the temple meant something, this was the beginning of the end. They were now going to enter an unknown place that has been abandoned for decades or even centuries. Nobody knew what awaited inside, but the group knew if the place was trapped then it meant there's something of value inside which the people who once lived here didn't want anyone to get their hands on. That was usually the case when ancient places like the temple were trapped. [break][break] Ilhiana gave out the instructions as they were about to enter the temple. Charles turned to Zaven, tilting his head backward as he looked at the Golden Dawn Captain. "It seems like we are about to get this started. I just hope this doesn't take long and whatever its inside is worth the time." For the most part, the Black Bull was excited, but not because they were about to go inside a temple where it was known what they will find, but excited that they were about to get this over with as soon as they get what Ilhiana is looking for. The trip all the way to the temple was a pain in the ass for the bubble, though spending time with Captain Zaven made it less of a pain in the ass and more enjoyable. The two seemed to get along despite their age gap. Having previously seen some of the abilities from the Magic Knight Captain, it was clear this wouldn't be as difficult with his help. The silver mage still maintained the belief that he was holding back in order to not injure the group with his spells. As he was on a whole other level. That often made him think who was the strongest Magic Knight Captain, the one closest to be able to match the Wizard King's magical ability as he wasn't able to experience the magical energy of a Captain often [break][break] After Ilhiana finished giving the group the instructions. Which were quite simple in order to avoid the group from dying a gruesome death from an unexpected trap or any sort of spooky things they could find inside the temple. Watch where you step, don't touch anything, and be aware of your surroundings. She was going to handle anything, after all, she was the person who knew what exactly they were looking for. Though the temptation of some members of the party will be hard to control. It was common that some civilizations placed things like gold or other objects of value in order to tempt anyone who entered into a trap or in order to hide the object that was truly valuable to them. It was logical that no one should touch anything under any circumstance unless instructed by Ilhiana, she was the top expert here. Charles just hoped that no one in the group, including himself, does something stupid that could possibly hinder the group's progress. Even though Charles was smart, he was not as experienced as Zaven, nor did he count with good sensory abilities to detect any possible traps and avoid them. So most of the tracking will be done by the Golden Dawn Captain. While he did that Charles will have to wait for Zaven to make sure the area is clear of the trap as he stayed in the group after all his job was to ensure the safety of the expedition party. [break]
[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] Zaven listened to Ilhiana as she spoke to the group about the dangers that lie ahead. Zaven waited with the rest of the group before being asked to go inside the temple to investigate briefly. The Shadow of Dawn walked inside of the temple without a second thought as he thought about what laid in wait for the group to come through, his sensory spread out and he could feel the dark mana pulsing through the area, it made him uneasy for a few reasons...one; he had to protect an entire group of people...and two; the being that was causing the dark, evil feeling mana had to at least be on par with a vice captain. He found little blips of magical energy inside and found the subsequent traps associated and disarmed them or made them fault, but there were plenty of skeletons around...fallen victims to the traps most likely...poor bastards. With a sigh, Zaven returned to the group and stood by Charles as he said his piece. ”Be still my friend, this shall be over soon I am sure of it, there was nothing inside the temple from a quick glance through besides the now disarmed traps...and poor souls that tried to find a way in before us...their bones were picked clean and they had a mana signature, but nothing happened when I approached them...so we just need to be on our guard for the most part. You did well back there, and your charge has shown these people you are reliable. Keep it up, the Bulls have found a future leader in you.” He said to Charles before walking to report to Ilhiana about the disarming of the traps and the skeletons that were seen inside. Then there were some lanterns and torches lit, Zaven of course did not take one as he preferred to be in the dark, he moved along with the shadows silently, like the ghosts of the dead he was always watching. He left the rear to the care of the Black Bulls, Charles, keeping to himself as he knew the researchers and Ilhiana would talk to themselves and could not be bothered unless danger was near. They were soon led into a large chamber, the skeletons of those foolish enough to get there were scattered around...movement to the right caught Zaven’s eye. [break][break]
”Contact right…” Then his left peripheral caught movement as well, then again to his right as the skeletons began to animate. ”Charles, defensive movements, protect the team at all costs. Shadow Golem, Achilles...rise.” He said as he motioned for the Shadow Golem to take form and walk the orders that it received were simple...to protect the group and not let a single person receive damage. Zaven was already moving on the offensive as the Final Abyss armor took form and he waiting in a defensive combat stance, waiting for whatever may happen to come towards them next.

It was finally time to get things started and moving. Zaven was, of course, the first person to enter the temple. He was not only the strongest person at the party but also the one with the best sensory ability. As soon as he went inside it he would likely locate any possible traps and enemies that may lurk around inside the temple. Unlike the Golden Dawn Captain, the Black Bull was unable to feel the magical energy inside the temple even if he went inside, he wouldn't have felt anything. As Zaven did some scouting Charles awaited for his arrival back to the group. Zaven disabled a good amount of traps, thanks to his sensory ability and the ones couldn't be disabled, they could easily be avoided by pointing out the location. The silver mage raised his head as Zaven returned to the group. He proceeded to inform Charles and later inform Ilhiana that most of the traps were disabled so the pathway inside was mostly safe, but still recommended to keep their guard up as not even the Shadow of Dawn was aware of the extent of the temple and any other possible traps it may have. "Got it... It seems like you took care of almost everything. Alright then, let's get this over with... It's been a long trip all the way here so the least we could do is finish what we started." The Black Bull replied eagerly, but that eagerness was because he just wanted to get this expedition over with. Even if Zaven stated that he had disarmed the traps, he felt they were more things awaited inside them. If an ancient civilization once lived inside such a temple I don't think they will allow their traps to be disabled that easily. Sure, Zaven had impressive sensory abilities, but even the silver mage had learned from experience that things don't always go as smoothly as he thinks they always do. He wants to believe everything is going to go well. [break][break] Once Zaven informed the group Ilhiana gave the order to finally move into the temple. Following Zaven's previous recommendations and even his previous thoughts. Charles remained with his guard up, at the end of the day, even if he wanted to slack off his job was to ensure the safety of the group. The silver mage took one of the lanterns, so did the rest of the group, he also took note that Golden Dawn Captain wasn't using one, perhaps he preferred to be in the dark. It was not like he needed one, after all, he had impressive sensory capabilities. There was nothing to worry about other than the safety of the group. He was left in the left rear as Zaven handled the other. A few moments later after the group moved deeper into the temple, the Black Bull heard Zaven's voice, as they had found enemies that they would have to get rid of before proceeding. "Got it. Everybody halt!" The silver mage told the group to halt, Zaven created a group of golems to assist him in creating a defensive perimeter to avoid the party from getting hurt. While that occurred Charles's grimoire came alight and floated beside him. The silver mage stomped the ground and created a silver spike that was aimed towards one of the reanimated skeletons who appeared to be the corpses of the other people who attempted to enter the temple, but their bodies were taken over by dark magic. The silver spike made its way towards one of the skeletons completely destroying the skeleton as its bones fell to the floor, no longer possessed. [break][break] Charles remained in his position. As he waited for the Golden Dawn Captain to make his move and get rid of the other skeletons that may come to the way of the party. If any of those managed to slip through, the Black Bull was going to make sure to wipe them out as soon as they got close to him. "Waiting on your move, Captain." [break]
[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] Zaven did not cast a secondary glance to Charles, he trusted the little Black Bull to take care of business, and as such when Achilies raced forward he took the legs of various foes, crippling them without much of an effort as the Shadow of Dawn felt a tick in the back of his head, a trigger… [break][break] ’ah...the ever so vigilant hero making sure that their jobs are just easy...you could just...take what you want from the temple...you could have earlier, but I think this is WAY more fun my vessel...So while this is sudden...why not let me take control for a bit...like when you were at the tower...you remember that surely…” The voice inside of his head said as Zaven crushed the bones of the fallen in his hands symbolically before Achilies did so for real, but there was something else at that point, more skeletons...waves of them even, and they looked ravenous. [break][break]
The group began to back out of the temple and they seemed a bit taken back...there was not supposed to be anything really left...Zaven was supposed to take care of it, yet here they found themselves at the mercy of this temple and the ruinous path laid before them. Just then, the scar on Zaven’s chest would ebb, the phantom pain of something past...giving a trigger to the voice in his head. ’DO IT! RELEASE ME!’ it said demandingly as Zaven felt the assault on his mind, making him wince even as he stood his ground. The Shadow of Dawn breathed in and out, a shadowy mist exhaled from his body as he felt the power inside of him bubbling. It was not until Hraban stood on his shoulder in his bird form and pecked at Zaven’s side did the Golden Dawn captain finally come back to his senses. ”CHARLES! FALL BACK TO THE GROUP, USE YOUR SILVER MAGIC TO SEAL THE DOORS AND LEAVE ME HERE! I WILL TAKE CARE OF THIS!” He said aloud as he brought his grimoire and extended his hands as if to call out for the horde to stop. Achilles knew what was about to happen as the shadow golem raced to the side of its master and then it would jump to the wall and then leap forward and roll before charging into the horde. Zaven was delivering blows left and right, taking the blows of the skeletons as they advanced, but he did not move back an inch...for he could not afford to give the enemy event a fucking centimeter towards the main group. This feeling was nostalgic and it brought him to the time he fought in the Magic Knight Exams with Sylvester...taking back the prison with Silas...even his stand against the forces of the Diamond country...He wanted to go back to the way he was...to be like the old Zaven...to believe in people again. His eyes glowed that azure color, then a sickly purple, then the finale came and he was left with his azure eyes and a renewed strength as he surged forward and grabbed two skeletons by their skulls before smashing them together. Achilles did the same and the two linked shadows danced and destroyed the horde as they grouped around the pair until finally Zaven grabbed the eye socket of the last skeleton and with a simple squeeze he crashed the skull of the assailant without even so much as another thought. [break][break]
Then it was all quiet...Zaven stood there, breathing heavy.

Several reanimated skeletons made their way towards Charles. The Black Bull was already prepared to fight them, Captain Zaven was relying on him to deal with his part, after all. As his grimoire floated beside him, the silver mage proceeded to create two swords made out of silver and make sure to not use the lightning properties of his magic. He didn't want to make the entire building collapse. Using the lighting properties of his magic without being careful would result in him and the entire expedition party getting buried under rubble. It was possible that not even Zaven would've been able to make it out of the entire rubble. Now focusing on the upcoming reanimated skeletons who seemed to also use magic, which could be problematic if their magic destroyed one of the things holding the entire temple. Charles needed to make sure to get rid of them quickly in order to also avoid getting close to the expedition party. [break][break] The silver mage made his move and began to fight the skeletons who used some of their magic towards Charles. The first two skeletons he was facing were fire and water mages, though the incoming attacks weren't powerful enough to deal with any significant damage to the temple. It could put him at risk or hit one of the party members if he wasn't quick. Dodging the shot of water heading towards him and splitting the fireball in half with one of his silver swords. The Black Bull got close enough to the skeletons slashing heads off of the two skeletons. Charles wasn't a fan of fighting in close combat and found it a pain in the ass to move, but the current situation and being inside a temple didn't give him a lot of space to use his range attacks like he usually does. Unfortunately for the lazy magic knight, they were still more skeletons around and Zaven was still busy doing his part dealing with the other skeletons in the place. Charles didn't want to stray too far from the party, so he made sure to remain his distance. Of course, three more skeletons started to run towards the silver mage, with one staying behind the two. The first two charging towards the Black Bull were using physical reinforcement magic, which was shown as one of them attempted to punch him. Thankfully, Charles managed to dodge the attack and the skeleton ended up hitting the ground instead. "That was dangerous..." The silver mage then proceeded to counter-attack, stabbing the skeleton who attempted to punch him and then slashing the other one with his other sword splitting him in half. One remained, but he was too far, and getting too close would likely result in getting hit. The silver mage focused and threw one of his swords towards the remaining reanimated skeleton, getting rid of him as the sword stabbed his chest. [break][break] Even though Charles got rid of five skeletons back there, they were still plenty remaining. Which was quite problematic, giving the silver mage no other option but to move back. The Black Bull looked over at the Golden Dawn Captain, something felt off for him. As the Captain wasn't moving back like the rest and suddenly stopped fighting. Charles didn't know what was going on and this left him very confused. Sometime after Zaven appeared to have come back to his senses and his next words would be something that would surprise the silver mage. He had several questions, but right now there wasn't enough time to ask the Zaven what was going on. "Got it..." Charles replied and gave a nod in response to the Captain who told him to move back. He didn't worry too much, he was a Captain and some skeletons wouldn't be enough to defeat a Magic Knight Captain. Abiding by Captain Zaven's orders, the silver mage guided the group to another room of the temple and sealed the door using his silver magic. [break]
[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] Zaven was a fury, a behemoth, the very visage of death incarnate on this mortal plane when it came to fighting. He began to use the enemies' own bodies against them, ripping rib bones and using them as daggers while the golems raced through the horde of reanimated skeletons. Throwing them into the walls, the doors where Charles escaped with the researchers, and even into the ceiling. A whirlwind of shattered bones, dust, and old weapons crashing around as the Shadow of Dawn heard that familiar tug in his head. ”Rip...and tear…” He said under his breath, he remembered crushing the skeletons with his bare hands...he would be tossed another with the force from his scout golems only to stamp his foot upon their skulls, then disarming another to arm himself with weapons to cause additional destruction. He was continuing on with the destruction of his enemies as he only saw red in his eyes until finally as the last skeleton was crushed between the shadow golem and Zaven’s furious back and forth blows he saw the golem standing with him as the dust settled and he found himself the victor. [break][break]
As the adrenaline finally began to wear off he found himself once again in the middle of carnage he wanted to scream or lament, but he just held himself together, dismissing his golem he would look at the cracked walls now with a renewed focus. His eyes had long since adjusted, but with the minimal light he had he could see something underneath the walls of this temple. He took about three minutes to uncover a mural behind the wall that depicted a great serpent that used to be revered as a god. The temple was its resting place and also the place where the living gave sacrifice...finally a name. ”Ylvehla...the serpent of destruction...” His eyes glanced over to where Charles had sealed the door with his silver magic, it was deeper into the temple and he now knew the secret that lies beneath their feet. ”Shit!” He ran to the door, not knowing if there were still there or not. [break][break]
”CHARLES! CHARLES ARE YOU THERE! DO NOT MOVE FARTHER INTO THE TEMPLE YOU ARE GETTING NEAR THE SECRET! I WILL FIND A WAY TO YOU!” He said, worried for his junior magic knight. He looked back and to the wall mural before rushing at the wall and shoulder checking the stone to try and break it, he had to find another way around.

After closing the pathway as Captain Zaven instructed him so, Charles didn't exactly know as to why he told him that and so suddenly. He screamed at him, making it seem liked the Golden Dawn Captain was in distress. The Black Bull didn't know what was going on with him, but he could only guess that he decided to unleash more of his power to get rid of the skeletons. Due to how enclosed the place was it was hard to move and the sudden release of power from Zaven's part may hinder the progress of the group and even harm it. Magic Knight Captains had overwhelming power compared to the rest of the squad and were capable of causing destruction to their surroundings if they released more power than they usually had to. Even though they were now separated the silver mage was able to feel the sudden release in magical energy from Captain Zaven. It was his first time seeing a Magic Knight Captain show more of his part, as expected it was powerful and scary for whoever was unfortunate enough to face that person. [break][break] Even though they were separated and most of the skeletons were now with the beast out of its cage. Several skeletons began to approach the group in the distance, they were far less from the ones in the previous room, but they were still a pain in the ass for the silver mage nonetheless. Captain Zaven was gone, for the time being, now it was time for the Black Bull to take over and continue his job, protect the archaeology thing, and find what they're looking for. The silver mage's grimoire came alight and floated next to him as he prepared himself to fight once again. "What a pain in the ass... At least there's less of you now." Motioning the archaeology group to stand back. Charles stomped the ground creating a large silver spike that went towards the direction of one of the two skeletons splitting it into pieces. The Black Bull threw his remaining sword towards the other skeleton, destroying its bones, essentially killing it, even though they were technically dead. Charles let out a sigh of relief, as everything seemed clear from the time being, but he wondered if Zaven was alright. [break][break] A few moments later Charles heard the voice of the Captain, he didn't move too far from where he was due to the fact that he had to fight two of the skeletons. "I'm here! Got it, we'll stay here. We'll wait for you and then we will carry on!" He nodded and replied to Captain Zaven. Though he wasn't sure what he meant about a secret, perhaps they were more monsters ahead or some sort of trap where they could only go through accompanied by him. He wasn't sure, and the fact that he wasn't sure gave him more reason to wait for him. If anything, Zaven was the expert here. [break]
[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] It took Zaven nearly an hour to find a route that was safe to move through to get to where Charles and the others were. He could have probably broken through the door, but he was trying to preserve as much of the temple as he could so in the end he found a trap door that led him up into the room with Charles, he was of course, covered in bone dust as he just coughed heavily before entering the room fully. ”alright well, that was an adventure I never want to replicate again...so here is the deal...in the other room there was a mural, or rather carvings in the stone that told of this temple being home to some great ancient mana beast that was revered as a god. Issue I have with that is that I have fought daemons before and seen what was hell...gods and devils have a familiar evil about them, something like a murderous aura...this place does not. So with that said, the thing inside this temple seems to be a great serpent...its name is Ylvehla, otherwise known as the serpent of destruction. The room just beyond this one is what I believe to be the final room, the resting place for the creature. So Charles, I am relying on you, together we are going to go put an end to this creature if it still lives...it has no scientific value to us and the power it carries is probably what reanimated the skeletons. We win this fight and we sort the spoils before returning. Everyone clear...good, let’s move out.” Zaven took a much more aggressive approach and took command of the group, leading them to the next room. [break][break]
The next room was a magnificent structure that had been well preserved, however there was no stench of musk that would come from a serpent, but instead...death and decay caught his nose first as the noticed the flicker just ahead of him in the darkness, he reacted quickly as his grimoire flipped open and he summoned a grand rank golem, Achilles, ”buy us some time Achilles!” Achilles sped ahead, jumping from the grimoire like it was nothing but a simple roadblock and received an attack as the husk, a bony husk of a tail wrapped around the golems body and began to drag it back into the darkness. The speedy golem was able to get free after a few well placed simple attacks and began to speed around the creature in order to distract it for a time. ”Charles, keep an eye on this fight, find a time to strike when you are able, I believe in you...this is how you become strong.” He said as he walked forward, knowing that the creature was shrouded in the darkness, but that was his domain as well… [break][break]
Zaven was quick to get into the action as the serpent was striking out to get the golem, he had to dodge with a roll, the creature of death was fighting ferociously and moving with a speed that was a rival to any good mage, but he could see the creature at least. He went to move and grab a hand onto the scaly beast, knowing he would be touching ancient evil, but it was almost welcoming to do so...Ylvehla was an existence that was shrouded in mystery. Once he grabbed hold the creature turned and bit down on Zaven, the Shadow of Dawn was quick to position himself so he was not skewered, but still the poison would seep into his veins. He was about to cough up some blood before his grimoire glowed and another Achilies golem sprang forth and would wrench the creature’s mouth open before the onslaught of quick guerilla fighting ensued by the two golems as they made short work with the beast.

Charles remained there as instructed by Zaven. He waited for almost an hour there with the rest of the group until the Golden Dawn Captain found a safe route to meet up with them. This was a very awful experience for the young magic knight, as the entire place didn't give him good vibes because of how ancient it was. The silver mage just wanted o get this done as soon as possible. He could only guess the reason why Captain Zaven didn't simply breakthrough was that he didn't want to end up accidentally making a part of the temple collapse which would not make things harder for them, but may also kill all of them. "Well... Waiting here for almost an hour is something I don't want to replicate either... The silver mage was growing anxious because of how much time he had to wait for Zaven to arrive, they were points where he didn't even know if he got trapped or killed, he was a Magic Knight Captain for sure, but it was hard to tell in a place like this. [break][break] The Black Bull paid attention as the Captain began to explain what apparently was in the next room. A monster strong enough to rival a Vice-Captain by the name of Ylvehla, which was also known by the Serpent of Destruction. That sounded like a pain in the ass to deal with, especially if that monster was powerful enough to be an issue for a Vice-Captain. "Got it." Charles nodded in response. It was now time to get this over with, they had to get rid of that monster otherwise all of their efforts would've been for nothing. It was also likely that whenever Ilhiana was seeking was inside there. Eventually, the group made their way to the next room which was also bigger than the rest of the temple and it has been well preserved. [break][break] As the group finally entered the group, a monster was nowhere to be seen, but there was a particular smell of death and decay in it. It didn't take long for the Golden Dawn Captain to make his move once inside quickly summoning one of his golems, maybe Zaven had found the location of the monster. The golem was quite powerful and was able to put up a fight against the monster, which was quite impressive. Zaven had deposited his trust on him, he wanted to keep a close eye on the fight in order to make his attack once he found an opening. As the Captain made his move to fight the monster, the silver mage's grimoire came alight and floated right beside him. The fight between Ylvehla and Zaven was a fierce one, as another golem came out of his grimoire in order to give the Captain of the Golden Dawn a better fighting opportunity. Charles was now able to see the monster because the golems were already attacking him The appearance of the other golem might've surprised the monster, to which he used this moment to make his attack. The Black Bull stomped the ground as a silver spike rose from the ground and made its way towards the monster eventually reaching the monster that was being constantly punched by the two golems. This was enough to give it the killing blow. [break][break] As the monster was killed Ilhiana found the statue she was looking for which was located at the center of the room. She nodded to two notifying them that they found what they were looking for. The monster was now defeated and they weren't any more enemies nearby, with that Charles made his way outside the temple with the rest of the group as their long journey has finally been completed. [break][break] [Exit Thread] [break]
[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] When Charles came to bat, it was a homerun alright as the silver Black Bull mage finally put the final nail in the coffin of the creature as he killed it with a final spell. Zaven and his golem came crashing down as he weighed the might of the creature for a moment, surely the thing was not that easy to kill...his only thought was that it had something to do with one of their elements of magic. With a chuckle, Zaven stood up and dusted himself off before the other researchers got into the temple and began to take notes and samples of artifacts and the like that were spread across the floor. [break][break]
”You did well Charles, I am proud of you during this expedition I am sure you have grown. I cannot wait to see where this path takes you.” Zaven said as he finally left when the team was ready. Charles and the captain of the Golden Dawn went their separate ways and now it was just another report as usual.

I'm not sure how you did it, but you spectacularly broke that code in your second to last post. I assume most of these posts were done on mobile for the most part, so I won't hold it against you for the broken template--but it was kind of rough to read, won't lie.
That said, approved. You'll both get 2469 gold plus 5 Stars with Zaven getting two additional ones.
