Valo Stark
"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
Hage. The little town on the edges of the Forsaken Region. Hage was a peculiar town with an even more peculiar history. But to Valo Hage was becoming a second home to him. Ever since he became a magic knight with the Green Mantis squad he has spent most of his days here in this town. The giant demon skull had become one of his favorite attractions, if he wasn't at his squad base training he could probably be found near the skull doing some other kind of training. Today was one of those days.
The past few weeks have been full of nothing but training and honing skills, after what happened in Kikka the fire mage made little room for error when it came to his daily training. But to add the past few weeks he had a couple of new friends and allies stay at the squad base, so all three could train together and go stronger. Genesis was one of them, the red head that has been on quite a few adventures with Valo. He was already pretty comfortable around her, but the past few weeks he had grown even more comfortable with her presence. Today they found themselves in a small cave like structure that was pretty close to the massive Demon Skull. Hans didn't join them today, stating he did some other people to see. A girlfriend perhaps?
The day was coming to an end and with that another successful day of preparing the visit back to Kikka. Valo was absent of his mantle and his weapon today, leaving them both back at the Green Mantis base. On him was a simple dirty black shirt some black pants and combat boots, his lantern was attached to his belt as always. Beads of sweat dropping from his forehead, as he finished his breathing techniques. With all the negative thoughts running in his mind, he found it harder to meditate. It was almost impossible about three weeks ago, but now he was at least making some progress. He stood up fully and stretched out his limbs, he grabbed a nearby towel and wiped his head clean leaving the towel on his head. His meditation did help with the headaches though, it was tough but he was getting better mentally. He wasn't his old self yet, but he was getting there.
He looked around and didn't see Genesis near him, she was probably close and didn't venture out to far. But then again one could never know with her. Valo walked out the small cave looking around. "Gen! Genesis! You around?" he called out for her. She wouldn't leave without telling him, or so he thought as much. "I'm headed back to the base, if you are trying to come along." Valo said aloud again, hoping to run into the red head.

Shing! Twack! Shing!
Perspiration shone from the young woman’s forehead, her face furrowed in deep concentration. In. Out. Aim. Throw. After Kikka, Valo had invited her over to train at the Green Mantis base, and she had readily accepted without a second thought. All she could think about was to get stronger, to get better, to get faster. There had been an unsettling thought that it was not the last she had seen of those daemons, and she wanted to be more prepared the next time she met up with them.
Then came the announcement that knights were being called to go back to Kikka in a few weeks, and since she was in one of the original people who went through that ordeal, she had been invited to go back, though she was no knight. The femme had mulled over the invitation for a few days, but finally accepted. There were too many questions she had, as well as the nagging feeling that she did not complete a mission. That galled at her, and was enough to spur her to sign up. What would happen this second time is still largely unknown, but it was enough to push the shadow mage in furthering her skills.
Though she spent the majority of her training time in the Magic Knights headquarters, there was something about the forests in Hage that drew her in...and not to mention the demon skull. Valo seemed to enjoy training her, and the redhead could quickly see why. Not only was it a somewhat deserted place, it was also a great reminder of who they were up against. The giant skull laid there above them, silent and cold, just like how she aimed to be.
For today, she was out there training on her knives, honing her every move like the perfectionist she was. It was a few meters from the skull landmark, and a certain poor tree was riddled with marks from her blades. She was rigorous in her practice, going through the same motions over and over until it became muscle memory, until it became as natural as breathing. Every few minutes, she would switch to the other hand. Though her right was her dominant hand, she thought it would be wise to be somewhat adept on her left hand as well. One should always be prepared to battle with both hands, as enemies came in all different shapes, sizes, and directions.
At the sound of her name being called, the redhead was snapped out of her concentration. "Over here." She called out, then looked up at the sky. They had been here for the better part of the day, and his suggestion to go back to the base sounded good. She needed a rest, and possibly a hot soak as well, as her muscles now ached from her relentless attacks. After briefly stretching out her arms and rolling her neck around, Gen made her way over to where the dark-clothed man was. "Let’s go."

"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
"Over here."
By this time Valo's knew her voice well, it led him to her she wasn't far luckily so it wasn't that hard to find her. He walked towards her folding his arms, looking at the poor tree she was practicing on. It was easy to tell she was getting stronger, her relentless practice to better herself mirrored his own. He dug his fingers into the many cuts she left on the tree. "They are getting deeper...you’re getting better." he said simply.
He turned towards her again, seeing her all sweaty and dirty. If anything she trained harder than him. Without wasting anymore time he started to head in the direction of the base. He could summon a golem and fly them over, but sometimes it was nice to go on a walk back to the base. The sun was down and the air was just right, cooling but not to cold. Without wasting anymore time, he started walking back towards the Green Mantis base. His hands in his pockets his mind racing, he found it hard to keep a clear head nowadays.
Walking back to base meant they had to pass some of the large farms in Hage. Seeing the farms reminded Valo of the requests to get rid of the wolves in the area, he had planned to take care of it when he had the time. He didn't think much of it, wolves in Hage were common their numbers were never anything to worry about. But apparently the numbers increased the past few months, he would have taken care of it by now if he wasn't obsessed with training. There was just so much going on right now, he was beginning to lose track of things.
But a loud howl would break his thoughts and cause him to look up into the sky. "Gen...there might wolves out. We should stay alert." he warned her. But they wouldn't have to stay alert for long, as they continued to walk silver eyes could be seen starting at them. The two pairs of eyes, turned to four, then six and again to eight. Getting closer and closer it was wolves.
In total it looked like six of them, they were walking at first and then they started running towards the two. A look of concern was on Valo's face, but he wasn't panicked at all this was something the two should be able to handle quite easily. But the reports were correct the wolves were dangerously close to farms now, they weren't that far from one now. "You get the three on the right, i'll go left." he said to Genesis before moving out going forward and towards the left of the pack. He didn't have his staff on him, or his cloak. But he did have his lantern that increased his speed, and as he entered battle the momentum of it would increase his speed and mobility even further. These wolves were kind of quick, but he was still going to be the faster.

The poor tree. It was riddled with holes and slashes, like some crazed animal had taken out its anger on it. In a way, that was what had happened. Genesis would not deny that she held onto a sliver of anger and bitterness because of this whole Kikka affair. The only way to ease that edge was to fight, and fight well.
"They are getting deeper...you’re getting better."
A slight shake of her crimson head. "Not good enough."Never good enough was what she wanted to say, as it was fast becoming her mantra. Failure was something she did not take lightly. Her problem of overworking could quickly consume her and become an unhealthy obsession.
She followed him silently, noting his sweaty hair and clothes. It seemed like he had done his part of training as well. That was something she could appreciate, another hardworking soul like her. No wonder they got along so well...unlike some other knights she has met. They had gone but a distance before a chilling howl could be heard. Then another.
The redhead nodded once at the fire mage’s warning. She had also heard about the wolf packs that were multiplying near Hage, but had yet to come across any of them. Until now...and it was perfect timing. She had just finished her training, so she was all warmed up and nimble. It also helped that they were in the forests, where shadows abound. Drawing her trusty dagger out of its sheath, the shadow mage whispered something underneath her breath.
"Envelopper."
Immediately her magic swirled around her and covered the woman until she was lost in a swarm of shadows. Her second skin. She blended into her element, and for a heartbeat, reveled in it. Even her mana signature was erased. Only Valo would be able to see and hear her through this illusion spell. Just in time, as the first leading wolves appeared. As the male mage went towards the left, she took the right. Six of them, and they were all grouped tightly together as a group. That would be a slight problem, as numbers always increased the chances of them attacking her blind spots. But then, she had her new spell, which they should not be able to see nor hear through.
Now wearing her shadowy cloak, Gen advanced confidently towards the pack. As soon as she neared them, her shadows enveloped her enemies, throwing them into confusion. With their sight and sound gone, she was able to take out the first one easily. Chuchote slipped neatly through the throat of the one closest to her, and its dying gurgle was suppressed within her magic area. The second and third one were slightly harder to kill, as they stuck close together. In addition, she saw them sniffing for her scent. That was one of this spell’s weaknesses. Her illusion only covered the senses of sight, sound, and her mana signature...but not her scent.
She would have to move quickly. The femme could feel her movements snap into action, quickly and cleanly, like some well-honed machine. Her blade danced within its murky environment, slicing through a neck and making its blood spurt everywhere. She jumped back, just to miss the incoming attack from the third one, which had smelled its comrade’s blood and was raging with fury. She struck out, catching the creature’s side in a deep gash as it jumped past her.
A ear-splitting howl. She leapt forward, towards the wolf. Before it could attack her again, she thrust her dagger through its throat, quickly ending its life. There was no joy in prolonging a life’s torture. Even if it was an enemy, none deserved torture...unless they had inflicted that sin upon other. If that was the case, Gen would have no problems slowly skinning them alive. But that was not this situation. She now turned over to where she assumed Valo was at, watching him finish off the wolves on his side. There was no need for her to help him, not when he was perfectly capable of handling them himself.

"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
As the fight began Valo took a quick notice to Genesis's new spell, it was an illusion spell. He knew she had been working on more sensory spells recently, but she had already progressed to the point that she could use them in battle. Apart of him was a little jealous, sensory and illusions were never his thing. But he always admired sensory and illusions magics he just wasn't talented in it. But he was happy for her growth as a mage, the red head worked just as hard as him she earned it.
But now he had to focus on his enemies, at least a little bit. He wasn't to overly confident but some simple wolves like this wouldn't be to much of a challenge for the fire mage. He took a glance at the three wolves, and noticed they weren't just attacking like wild beasts but more like coordinated attack. One was in front and other two started to spread out and encircle Valo, unlike Genesis he couldn't blend in with the shadows and hide from sight. The only thing he could do right now was a full out attack, he was faster and stronger so it wasn't a bad strategy.
Valo cracked his knuckles and in the next moment he dashed towards one, catching it off guard! His fast and swift movement lead into a solid punch right into the neck of the wolf, killing it in one blow. He didn't stop there though, leaving the wolves little time to respond. He moved quickly and efficiently to the next target, doing quick spin and landing a hard roundhouse kick on one wolf that sent it far back also taking it out.
Leaving one more left, Valo met it's eyes the beast was still determined. It was admirable. Valo planted his feet to the ground this time, spreading his legs out and focusing on the one beast in front of him. He would give it the respect that it deserved. The beast started to sprint towards him, then lunging into the air. Valo aiming at his target brought his fist back, and at the right time with movement that looked like a blur he landed a hard strike with his fist. The last of his wolves taken care of.
Valo rubbed his wrist and saw Genesis already finished with her wolves. Valo turned his head back to the wolves, and then at the nearest house. Hearing some shouts and yells coming from the farmhouse. "The farm. It may need our help." He said to Genesis wasting no time to head towards that location.

Just as expected, the Green Mantis took care of the wolves on his side, finishing them off just as quickly as she did. During this time, the redhead had bent down to her knees and started skinning them. They would likely need proof that they had indeed killed those wolves, and these pelts could come in handy if she was to sell them. These wolves seemed to be a little larger than average ones, so their pelts would fetch a good amount of coin. She worked quickly, as she did not stay here with this heavy scent of blood in the air for so long. Who knew if other packs caught the scent of fresh kill and came running over?
She was almost done skinning the second one when she heard the sound of rushing bodies. Or rather, rushing paws. "More are coming." She said, springing up to her feet. It was just as she had feared. Blood always attracted more predators, and this time was no exception. Her crimson-covered hands were already clenched onto her dagger, already ready to go from blood to more blood. With her feet, she nudged her three kills into a heap and stood in front of the pile, as if she was a tigress guarding her kills.
"Same thing." She called out towards the fire mage, referring to their earlier attack plan. Gen spoke to him, but her eyes never left the direction of where she sensed the pack was coming from. Envelopper. Her shadows swirled once again, enveloping the caster and her kills within a thick haze, just as the fresh pack of canines burst into the clearing. Some of them—three, to be exact—had run right into her spell, and was now running blind in all sorts of wild directions. Perfect. She needed them to be separated in order to kill them.
The first one she dispatched easily, as it ran straight into her dagger. Without vision, the wolves were momentarily confused and panicked. However, the other two quickly resorted to their sharp noses. Unfortunately, due to her skinning the pelts from before, the scent of canine blood was heavy upon her. "Merde." She muttered, and wiped her hands on her pants. Of course, that did nothing, only leaving a dirty stain for her to wash out later.
A scuffle. There! She slashed out, but it cut through empty air. Then she heard the growl and whirled around. Too late. A heavy body crashed down onto her, sharp teeth glistening in thirst for blood. Her blood. She was thrown off balance from the unexpected weight, and landed on her back with the heavy canine on top of her.
Genesis had silently called out to her shadows, and they responded, shaping into two Poignards, her magic-made daggers. The redhead felt the full weight of the wolf, and the way its sharp claws dug into her chest. But strangely, it did not hurt. Instead, she felt a slight tightening and tingling on her feet, as if her boots had something to do with it. (Enigmatic Enhancement)
But she did not really notice it, as all she could were eyes filled with , and she also felt a few drops of slobber from it drooling over its next meal. Or so it thought. With her extra reinforcement weapons, she sank one into its side, and she quickly rolled out from under it. Then with her other hand, Chuchote finished it off, cutting through its neck and ending its life.
Just as she was about to get up to her feet, she heard another growl and looked up to see another pair of sinister eyes. The last one was the biggest wolf out of all the ones she had just fought. It leapt, and she rolled out of the way. But not completely though. The wolf had snapped and closed its jaws around her right shoulder, sinking its teeth into her flesh. Gen hissed in pain, and swung wildly at it. However, her shadow dagger embedded in its side did not seem to deter it, nor did it loosen its grip. Instead, it only held on tighter.
With a cry, the female drew Chuchote straight up against its soft underbelly, cutting it open from the most sensitive part all the way up to its throat. It was a quick and wild motion, and its innards were spilling out of its stomach before the body hit the ground. Gen made sure it was dead before she looked down on her shoulder. There were deep teeth marks, clearly showing that she had been bit. Then she spat on the wounds, hoping that these wolves were not so abnormal species that had venom in its bite.
By now, her shadow screen had dissolved away, revealing a disheveled and dirty redhead standing in the middle of dead wolves—two skinned, four dead. Her hand covered the bite on her shoulder, as if she did not want her partner to see. That is, assuming he was finished with the wolves on his side. If he was, she would bend down and whisper a quick word for the departing souls, then finish her job of skinning them, though more slowly due to her injury. If not, she would probably aid him, though her left hand aim was not as good as her dominant hand. Not yet.

"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
"More are coming."
his shadow mage partner said, her tone never changing even at the sight of danger. It was in the general direction of the farm, they were probably alerted to the danger and smelt the blood from the wolves the two just dealt with. This would make the job easier, with the wolves coming to them.
He caught a quick glance at Genesis as she prepared for another attack, she had a knack for always being covered in blood. It was like she was guarding her kills from the wolves. Though Valo considered her an ally and a dear friend, there was times he could look at her and actually be somewhat afraid of what she could be truly capable of. She used the same illusion spell hiding her presence, from her prey and started on her attack as always.
Now was time for the fire mage to get started, he would take the same approach he did last time. Just use his overwhelming speed and offensive ability to quickly outpace and take care of the wolves. Valo could have used some of his fire spells, but he felt no need for it. This was an opportunity to test his physical abilities a little more. Using his increased speed he dashed forward and caught up with the wolves in a few moments. Three more wolves, one in the front leading the charge two right behind it ready to be the back up. They were all going to try and attack right after one another and overwhelm the fire mage.
But a fast and precise left hook from Valo, hitting the first wolf right in it's neck would put an end to that strategy. The force of Valo's fist alone, was enough to put an end to the wolf. The last two wolves never left Valo's sight, one tried to pounce on him followed directly after the other. Two swift sways side to side from the fire mage was enough to dodge the two wolves. With both of them missing, and Valo not countering they started to encircle him. Their eyes red with rage and hunger, snarling saliva dripping from their jaws. These wolves were indeed not normal at all. Now that he got a good look at them, he could tell something was definitely off.
They tried their attack once again, this time both pouncing at the same time. Valo had to react quickly, struck one wolf coming from the front with his knee crushing it's jaw and killing it. As for the other he simply just held his right arm up to block the attack, as fast as he was he didn't move fast enough to counter. His mana skin took the brunt of the attack, it hurt a bit but he didn't show any signs of a reaction on his face. A large bite mark could be seen in his arm though.
Not giving the wolf anytime for another attack, he dashed toward it quickly and landed a strong roundhouse kick killing it. And that was the last of it, Valo took a quick look at the bite mark on his arm. It annoyed him he had to admit, but it just meant training was still needed. He looked over to Genesis's location and saw she was just about done with her fight as well. She looked disheveled and dirtier than usual, it looked like she was covering something with her hand but Valo didn't pay it to much attention.
He raised his arm showing her the bite mark. "One of them got me. Not good enough is right." he commented. "We should bring the pelts to the farmer nearby just to confirm the job is done." Valo would start skinning them, once he done he brought them over the farmer. If Genesis would do the same, the mission would be done. And they could head back to the Green Mantis base.

The redhead did make quite the sight. Covered in cuts and dirt and blood, though not her own, it did give her a rather unsettling look. Somehow, she always got dirty whenever she fought, be it in a quick skirmish or a full battle. Thankfully, she was not the type to get all disgusted and horrified at a little dirt and blood. In fact, one would say she rather reveled in this type of mess, as it made her feel alive.
It seemed like Valo had not come away unscathed either, and she nodded when he showed her the bite mark on his arm. Their skills could always be better. They had to. These injuries were, after all, just a small physical wound that could easily be healed. Nothing like what they had experienced in Kikka. Even without knowing what would happen, Genesis knew that if she was to survive the second round there, she would need all the work and training she could get.
The shadow mage quickly finished skinning the pelts. She did not want to wait for another round of wolves, even though the two mages could easily handle it. As soon as she was done, she wiped her blade on her pants before sliding it back in its sheathe. Bundling the pelts up, she followed Valo’s lead, carrying them back to show the farmers that they had indeed eliminated this threat in the area. But little did she know that this was just the start of more trouble...
