Hage....
Appears that Hans has been finding himself in this part of the Forsaken Region a lot more than usual. His jobs never really took him to this location much, but he had other reasons for being here. This was where the dark mage trained with the Unrelenting Flame, Valo, and the Shadow Assassin, Genesis for those months leading up to Kikka, using the former's base for said training. At first, Hans only saw those two as mere acquaintances, people whose current goals at the time aligned with his, but the more they trained, the merc found himself...bonding with those two, something he rarely did. That bond has caused the dark mage to stop seeing those two as acquaintances, but as trusted allies....friends even...but that's something the dark mage might not fully admit to, being the way that he is.
But Hans was not here to train, nor walk down memory lane. He was here on a job...one seemingly connected to something he had dealt with a while back with two others.
With two of his swords in their own sheathes on one side of his hip, while his grimoire rested in its satchel on his other hip, the merc arrived at a familiar farm and looked over at some poorly standing fences, some appearing to be torn apart. He then noticed a worried-looking farmer who appeared to be examining the fence, picking up a piece before sighing. "What are we gonna do...?" The farmer mumbled to himself before noticing someone approaching from the corner of his eyes. The guy got up to see the dark mage, making his face loosen up a bit. "Oh hey. Yer that "Nightfall Swordsman" aren't ya?" the farmer asked with a hint of relief in his tone. "E-err, Hans is fine..." the merc replied before rubbing the back of his neck. He still couldn't get over folks calling him that...or starting to know who he is for that matter. The growing fame felt more...embarrassing than anything.
"Well, either way, I'm glad that ya could come." the farmer claimed before looking behind Hans as if he were expecting someone else. "I'm guessing those two Magic Knights hadn't come with ya." the farmer claimed, referring to Charles and Willow. The merc simply shook his head and the farmer sighed with a shrug. "Ahhh, hopefully, the others that were called will come then." the farmer added, causing Hans to raise an eyebrow. "Others?" The farmer nodded at Hans' inquiry before turning to face the farm. Yup. We had another wolf problem sometime after you and those two youths dealt with things. Another Knight and helpful civilian came in to handle it, and then things were all peaches n creme for a while...." He then took his farmer hat off and scratched the top of his head as he looked back at the merc. "But recently....things have been starting up again, and it ain't pretty." Hans rose an eyebrow at this comment which was enough for the farmer to elaborate.
"Them wolves have been getting rather bold. They've been going after our folk's livestock...and one of em even bit a pal of mine...Thank the spirits he was able to get outta that." The farmer bowed his head down a bit with his hat against his chest as he said that. "I see..." is all Hans would say before looking over to the farm. The farmer nodded, looking over to the farm as well again. "Not only that, but folks have been claiming they saw...larger wolves leading this pack. This is why they called in so many folks to help this time....Even though only one of ya has arrived." The farmer placed his hat back on his head and crossed his arms, shaking his head. Hans nodded before walking up to the farmer, placing a hand on his shoulder. "I'll handle this." Hans said bluntly, not the type to really mince his words.
The merc was confident that he could handle this on his own, but whether he wanted it or not, others were on the way...Those others specifically being people he knows.
It had felt like a while. Or was it just a few days? Either way, it did not matter, not when the problem has risen once more. The wolf packs surrounding Hage have been growing bolder and bolder by the day, daring to even attack in broad daylight and upon lone wanderers who had ventured too far from civilization. This included both livestock...and people.
A farmer had reported being bitten the day before, and those who lived in the outskirts of town had a good reason to worry venturing out by themselves now. It was no wonder that the wandering civilian had caught wind of this piece of information, though she did not necessarily fear for her own life. Non, not when she has her blades by her side.
The black-clothed woman strode purposefully towards the agreed meeting place, gait calm and unhurried, chin set up and firm. After the previous event of killing those wolves, she had taken a few days off to another part of the region, training something that she was not quite yet ready to show the world until she had a better grasp and control of it.
In all honesty, when has she ever stopped training? It felt like an endless grind, a goal with no real end. And contrary to popular belief, the redhead did not always feel like training and working and polishing her skills up. There were days when she was ready to give up altogether and sink her knives into herself in frustration. Yet, like an old bad habit, she just could not seem to shake herself free from it. The daily grind had become a lifestyle. Just like how the sun always eventually sets on the west, so did she find herself slipping to her training mode, going through the preparatory stretches and motions for the day's activities. It was difficult to change something that has been so ingrained into her.
The ever-growing gnaw of her Kikka experiences just would not leave her alone, and underneath her tough exterior, whatever soft femininity she possessed was slowly corroding away. What happened to the innocence of youth, the wonder and awe for life? She had not always been like this, but as time came and passed, she was becoming colder and more emotionless, a true shadow of what she used to be.
Thus did this femme danced the fine line between self-development and self-destruction.
But being on a mission, like the one she has today, is doing wonders for her. For one, she could focus on something besides herself. And second, if this was a wolf issue like last time, there should not be any problems. Especially not when she knew the other two whom she was meeting up with.
Valo and Hans. Probably the only two comrades she has spent the most time with thus far. She had known the fire mage before anything in Kikka had happened, and the mercenary reminded a little bit of herself, though she was much more on the extreme side. Were they...friends? For a moment, something flickered in those gray steel eyes. But just as quickly, any trace of emotion was gone. What were friends? She only knew of comrades and allies and acquaintances.
"...claiming they saw...larger wolves leading this pack. This is why they called in so many folks to help this time....Even though only one of ya has arrived."
"Two," she corrected the speaker, as she threw Hans a greeting nod at the same time. She had picked out the dark-haired mercenary standing next to a farmer, as well as the last few words from the latter. The farmer definitely seemed worried, shaking his head and such. But the dark mage had been quick to reassure him, and it seemed to be effective. But for now, they would wait for the third member of their party to arrive...the one who always seemed to be "fashionably late"...

Valo Stark
"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
The fire mage of the Green Mantis could be seen walking through the bases's halls in a rushed fashion. More like speed walking as he flung his long green cloak mantle over his shoulder. He was walking with urgent purpose, slightly annoyed but not entirely angry. There was quite a few things on his mind, none really life threatening or troubling. But minor issues that were beginning to pile up and weigh heavily.
More wolves in Hage apparently was the word around in town. The Green Mantis knight thought he handled this problem already before going back to Kikka. But that was not the case, he saw a notice for a mission on the boards in the base about dealing with wolves and probably bigger ones in Hage. Valo payed closer attention to the missions that happened in Hage, for a number of reasons. One Hage was his new home after Kikka of course, it was the town where the Green Mantis base was located. So any missions, jobs and unfortunate events that happened in Hage should be dealt with by Green Mantis first and foremost. Any other squads coming over to deal with the problem, was unacceptable to Valo.
Unlike last time he grabbed his silver staff before leaving, his fast pace caught the eye of some of his squad mates he could tell he was annoyed. Valo barged right through the main lunch hall and opening gate, walking right towards the farm that had the most sightings of these wolves. He had sent message to Genesis to see if she wanted to join him on dealing with the wolves once more. He would have brought Fuu as well but the hard headed dwarf was busy with another mission out of town.
Walking to a destination was rather unusual for the fire mage, normally taking to the skies with his dragon golem. But he wanted to spend just a little more time with his thoughts. Lately he had been thinking of the future a lot, a lot more than he liked to. Preferring to live in the moment and just go with flows. He would be lying to himself if his mindset had not changed, as a magic knight his mindset had to change at least a little. Going with the flow was fine, but one also needed to be prepared. Prepared to protect others, and defend the ones he cannot defend themselves. Although Green Mantis isn't the only squad in the Forsaken Region, it was the first one the first line of defense from things not within the capital or common regions. This meant Green Mantis couldn't just be strong, it had to be one of the strongest. It had to be one of the best in all Clover.
"Make it three." Valo said nearing the conversation happening between the farmer and his two allies Genesis and Hans. He had sent word to Genesis to meet him here, but was a little surprised to see Hans. Valo grinned seeing his trusted allies all together again, he hopped over the fencing with no effort and walked along the farm. "Hans! I didn't know you'd be here. Did you invite him Genesis?" he asked the red head, after getting an answer he would continue. "Sorry I'm late. I walked. " he said rubbing the back of his head.
Despite missing the earlier parts of the conversation, Valo was well briefed on it. The wolves were growing in numbers, and in size because of that they are getting bolder attacking livestock and biting another farmer. There wasn't really anytime to waste, so Valo was ready to get moving. "The other farmer that was bitten, is he located right over there?" Valo asked pointing to the farm in the distance with a raised eyebow.
"Why, yes. Yes he is. He's got more a sense on where the wolves are coming from. Since his livestock have been a main target for them."
Valo nodded. "Thanks. We'll be able to take care of it. No worries." the fire mage said with a reassuring smirk. "Well then, shall we." he said to Genesis and Hans before walking over to the farm.
"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
"Two,"
Hans and the farmer were both interrupted by a familiar voice. The merc turned around to see the shadowy redhead, Genesis approaching the two. "Gen?" Hans was not expecting to see her here, but the farmer did not look so surprised. As Hans nodded to the shadow mage in return, the farmer was just about to say something until another familiar voice spoke up...
"Make it three."
Not just Genesis, but Valo was here as well? He gave Valo his full attention then shook his head a bit at the question. "No, I came here on my own. Didn't expect to see any of you here." Hans claimed. So this meant that Valo and Genesis already had plans to assist in this mission together? If fate really does exist, then this certainly would be a good example of it. Did this mean that these were the two that the farmer was talking about before? "Excellent, there's three of ya now!" the farmer exclaimed. He didn't seem all that worried when it was just Hans, but more help did boost his confidence in this situation being finally wrapped up for good. Valo asked the farmer his question, causing Hans to place a hand under his chin as he pondered this a bit. It was probably for the best that they get more info of these wolves from the one who got attacked.
With that, the trio was seemingly off, heading deeper into the area. "Be careful now." the farmer said, causing Hans to turn his head a bit to face him. "We'll handle this." the dark mage said this time.
As they headed to the farm, Hans observed the area for a bit, looking for anything that was amiss before bringing his attention back to the other two. "If I knew that you two were coming, I probably wouldn't have taken this job." Hans jested a bit, more a compliment of their strength than anything else. But in all honesty, Hans was glad to be working with these two again. Neither Genesis nor Hans was much for talking, both appearing to focus mainly on the job first which is something the dark mage respected about her. They were sort of alike, even down to having similar elements. Valo on the other hand is the example of someone that the old Hans would've disliked being around....but the more they hung out, the more Hans ended up getting caught up in the flame mage's hype...and nonsense. He'd probably never admit it, but Hans sort of enjoys the hijinks that Valo brings along with him.
But once the trio made it to the farm, a commotion could be heard! "Honey, get the kids inside quick!" A male yelled out! As this happened, two wolves could be seen running from the farm, each with livestock hanging out of their mouths! They then ran into a nearby forest, and away from view. "Come back!" A farmer holding a pitchfork could be seen heading towards where those wolves ran off to, one of his arms wrapped in medical bandages. He stopped in front of the entrance of the forest and kicked at the dirt beneath his feet in frustration. "Gah, not again!" He groaned before taking notice of the trio.
"Oh hey now! Are you three here to help!" The farmer waved, causing Hans to look over at that forest. "I take it the wolves are coming from that forest?" Hans asked, causing the farmer to give a frustrated nod. "Aye. I'd go in there myself, but..." he then raised up his bandaged cover arm and shook his head. "Plus, I need ta stay back and look after my family...in case more of those bastards try creeping their way back in." With that, Hans nodded before looking back at that forest. He then looked over at the other two, seeing if they were also ready.
It was time to handle this wolf problem for good...but the trio has no idea just how deep this thing goes....
"About time," the redhead muttered underneath her breath, though without any real malice. "Better than last time, though." The fire mage asked if she was the one who had invited the mercenary, to which she shook her head. She had been a little surprised to see the dark mage here as well, but would much prefer to fight with someone she knew than a complete stranger, so it all worked out in the end.
The farmer looked pretty happy now that the three mages were here. It was kind of strange, having civilians take care of these rising problems. It was understandable why Valo would be here, but were the Magic Knights so thinly spread that these types of threats required mercenaries and independent hirelings to help? Strange indeed. One would think that the squad knights were largely inactive in current events…
Genesis followed the two men as they headed towards the pointed direction. Both of her companions had interacted with the farmer, so she did not feel any need to do the same, not when their goal was clear and concise. It was also a good idea to ask the injured farmer for more information. It also helped that his farm seemed to be a prime hunting spot for those canine predators. That would make things easier, if the wolves all attacked in one place. A mass slaughtering would be a fine thing to cross off on her to-do list for today.
"If I knew that you two were coming, I probably wouldn't have taken this job."
This caused the redhead to shrug carelessly. "Better you than an inept knight." Of course, she was only joking about the knights part...or was she? One would never know, as her demeanor never changed. As per her earlier musings, the situation could have been a lot worse.
Though when it came to the wolves, the situation did escalate quickly. As soon as they neared the farm, there were shouts and screams. Gen already had her dagger drawn, and she was running, running, running halfway to the woods before she lost sight of those thieves. If they had not had a head start, she would have easily caught up to them...but now she turned back to see if the farmer and his family were safe. None seemed to be harmed, except the livestock that the two wolves snatched. Bold ones, they were.
Gen turned back to the forest. Her breaths slowed, and eyes half-closed. As her energy stabilized, so did her breathing and head space. It was not often that she used her ki, but when she did, it always helped clear her senses. Now she could feel two fading mana signatures in a certain direction, and started heading towards that area. Assuming the other two mages had either picked up on those mana signatures or were just following her, the female pressed onward into the thick undergrowth.
It was slow going, with her concentrating so hard. Accélérer She grabbed several shadows nearby and wrapped them around her legs. There, that felt much better. She could move at her usual speed now. With that, she continued pressing into the forest, keeping her senses alert for the main pack. Or packs.
Then she sensed it. More than two mana signatures.
The shadow mage slowed her steps, carefully avoiding the little twigs that might announce her presence. She also dropped down into a crouch, wary but with a cool and calculating aura. The closer she neared the group, the stronger the mana felt. It was a good thing that she did not come alone, as there seemed to be quite the crowd. She looked back to see if Valo and Hans were anywhere around. Shadows shifted and skirted around her, but she did not cast anything. Yet.

Valo Stark
"My Goal is to be at the Top."
"If I knew that you two were coming, I probably wouldn't have taken this job."
"Yea but with the three of us it'll be way more fun. " Valo replied to Han's comment with a grin on his face. This mission was bound to be a fun one at least, just taking down more hungry wolves with two of his best mates. He also didn't have to worry about watching the two mages, they both could easily handle themselves in just about any situation. Even though the two rarely had a lot to say Valo could probably talk enough for the three of them. With Kikka finally at this point behind them, this was the first mission all three would take together to get past that time.
"Better you than an inept knight."
Valo took no offense to Genesis's joke in fact he grinned when he heard it and started to lightly chuckle. "Gen you're practically a seasoned knight at this point. But I can't argue with that logic."
Walking to the farm though a lot of commotion could be heard, it sounded like the male farmer was shouting for his family to get back inside. Valo took a closer look and saw two wolves running from the farm with livestock in their mouths, they were at it again. These wolf attacks were not normal at all they were much to aggressive now it didn't make sense for them to take livestock in the middle of the day with humans around at that. Something was off. The wolves ran into the forrest Valo was about to chase after them but Genesis who had the same idea went on ahead. The farmer called to them asking if they were three that was sent to help, Hans confirmed the wolves were coming from that forrest. But with the small talk out of the way it was time to chase after the wolves like Genesis did. "Consider the wolves dealt with!"
The fire mage ran and caught up with Genesis who was beginning to track the wolves down, when her movement started to slow down he slowed as well staying behind her as she lead them careful to break any twigs as they approached. The goal was to have the two wolves lead the group to most of the pack and deal with them entirely. Eventually following them did just that but were they just being followed, or were the wolves actually leading the three into a trap of their own. The two wolves looked behind them and ran pass a large group of wolves, with three much much large ones in front. The three larger wolves looked extremely vicious with drool hanging down from the large jaws, the muscles in their arms and shoulders were much larger than a typical wolf. In height their snouts could probably reach Valo's chest .They did not look normal in the slightest. "Wolves are much bigger these days aren't they." Valo said in a calm voice walking ahead to face the large pack and no longer hiding. This would make him the main target and focus for the pack if the others wanted to get in a sneak attack somehow. Valo wasn't much for stealth he was going to face them directly and head on. Why? Because he felt like it.
The fire mage started to stretch his neck taking a few more steps forward towards the pack. "No wonder you guys are getting so aggressive, look at the size of you three." The fire mage made it seem like he wasn't prepared for a sudden attack but he was completely prepared he was just waiting for it. One of the larger warg's started to snarl louder and raised it's snout to point at Valo, right after that two wolves started to run towards him.
Was that a coordinated command?
The fire mage thought to himself, he knew wolves were intelligent animals but that was not something you see everyday. He started to swing his silver staff quickly and as soon as the wolves pounced towards he did one swing that resembled a sliver flash of light and sent the two wolves flying to his right in a instant. Right after that the three larger wolves all snarled much more viciously sending all the wolves forward in a attack!
"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
Hans simply smirked a bit at the comments made by the fire and shadow mages. He may not admit it, but he missed their company, even though the majority of their interactions involved training or taking down daemons. The merc developed a sort of bond with these two, one that he would never want to be severed. Despite his previous claim of not accepting this job if he knew that the other two were coming beforehand, he most likely would've had the opposite reaction, and would've still showed up. He silently agreed with Valo, things are going to be a little more interesting with these three around.
But now was no time for chitchat...The trio has a job to do.
The dark mage looked to see if his partners were ready to proceed into that forest, and it seems that they were more than prepared as Gen had already gone in after those two wolves, followed by Valo who left some words of encouragement for the injured farmer. Hans gave the farmer one more nod in confirmation to the fire mage's words and went off to catch up with the other two. "Those three sure do have some confidence." The farmer said to himself as he watched the mage's head off before taking off his farmer hat. "Good luck...Tho I don't think y'all will need it." he claimed, chuckling to himself before heading back into his home.
Catching up with the other two, Hans started to slow down and went into a bit of a crouch, following Gen's lead just like Valo. Hans was pretty flexible when it comes to stealth or needing to go all out, something that comes with the territory of being a mercenary. This was a smart move instead of just taking these two wolves out, they could lead the trio to the rest of the pack which they will be able to handle all at once....but the merc did not feel completely at ease with this. He couldn't shake the feeling that this was going off a little too well....Were they being led into some sort of trap? No....Wolves are intelligent, but not to this extent....right?
The two wolves made it to their destination with the three mages following behind...just as planned. The two wolves turned briefly to face the trio before running off, and at that moment, Hans knew that they were baited, causing him to rest his hand on the hilt of one of his sheathed blades, Dark Edge. Hans' dark eyes were now focused on the three wolves in front...all of them looking larger...and a lot more vicious compared to the ordinary wolf. There were also about eight more wolves behind those larger ones, not including the two that led them here. They were all just standing there, watching the three mages carefully which Hans did in return.
"Wolves are much bigger these days aren't they."
Hans glanced over at Valo, watching him step in front. Looks like he wanted to get these beast's attention which he was successful at. One of those larger wolves...appeared to have ordered two of the regular ones to go after Valo, causing the merc to raise an eyebrow. That gesture...Are these wolves coordinated? The merc was more concerned about the hint of coordination than those two wolves that were going after Valo since he knew that the man could take care of himself against them which he did, using that fancy staff of his.
Those larger wolves appeared aggravated now, and commanded the remaining wolves to attack!
"My turn." Hans muttered before unsheathing his Dark Edge katana, and just in time to strike down an incoming wolf with one downward slash! Two more were now coming in, one running towards Hans on each side! The merc took a step back in an attempt to have those two wolves crash against each other...but then he nearly tripped over a third wolf which purposely placed itself there! Hans nearly fell on his back but was able to roll up onto his feet thanks to quick thinking, and watched as those three wolves slowly approached him. It didn't seem the first two wolves crashed into each other as Hans intended, showing just how smart and well-coordinated they were.
One wolf attempted to pounce up onto Hans, but the merc was able to impale it with his sword, but as he killed that one, those two took advantage of this and bit down on each one of Hans' legs. "Ngh..." It stung, but thanks to his mana skin, there was no real damage. Hans plunged his katana into one of the wolves that were still latched onto him before kicking the other one off followed by a quick slash to strike it down!
These wolves were weak...but no pushovers when it comes to coordination. With the two wolves that Valo took down and the four Hans took care of, that only left four of them and three of those larger ones....or so the dark mage thought.
Those three larger wolves howled in unison, and with that more howls could be heard. Three more of those larger wolves slowly walked out of where they were hiding from on opposite sides of this clearing...along with about sixteen more wolves.
The trio was truly surrounded now, being seen as prey to be hunted down by these vicious wolves...but Hans did not falter.
With his grimoire out, a dark aura engulfed it as a similar aura was now surrounding Hans, forming into The Hunt a dark suit of armor that resembles something a hunter would wear. The merc then slid his second sword, Nightfall out with his free hand, and was wielding it in a reverse grip while he kept a normal grip with his katana. He wasn't going to take these wolves lightly anymore...
It was time for the prey...to become the predator.

Genesis held her breath as she stalked closer to the pack of wolves. Surprise would be a good tactic, though it seemed like it would not be the course of action they would go, as the fire mage strode straight to their enemies. "Homme fou, you crazy..." She muttered underneath her breath, but sensed that the dark mage had followed suit and was now fighting in the frenzy.
"Now it's a party!"
A party indeed. Now the game was afoot. As the three wolves jumped for the fire mage, shadows jumped into Gen's hands, forming her daggers. However, before she could do anything else, the wolf leader of the pack howled and the rest of the pack suddenly stopped. In a flash, they turned tail and melted back into the shadowy recess of the forest. Were they really retreating, just like that? Perhaps they knew that they were no match for these three human magic wielders?
Whatever the reason, it seemed like they were not going to fight further. Not today. The large wolf swept its fathomless gaze at the three mages, as if to say that they would meet again. Then it also slunk off after the rest of its party, vanishing noiselessly into the woods without a trace.
"Well..." Gen straightened up, waving away her shadow daggers. "That was strange." There was no doubt they would be coming back, but hopefully, the wolves would not be bothering the farmer for a good while. Until then, they would still keep an eye out, just in case.
"And I was looking forward to a good fight." Her mouth twisted in slight annoyance, her tone holding the barest hint of disappointment. But either way, the red-haired woman would be ready when those pesky wolves came back...
