[attr="class","florencetext"] It had been three days since the royal knight exams had fully come to an end. The teams were already picked and all that was left to do now was wait until they were called upon. This of course meant that training would now be the main focus. Well at least for Lydia's team. After all, surely they didn't think just because they became royal knights that meant they'd be able to just sit back and relax. If they did then soon they'd be in for a rude awakening. She was nice enough to of course give her team two days to rest before the actual training had started. The royal had of course sent letters to Hans and Verena telling them to meet her at the Ravencrest estate at six in the morning. [break][break] Hania being her brother was of course easier to just tell him in person. Lydia would already be waiting for the other mages to arrive at the training grounds at the Ravencrest estate. The head of the Ravencrest family had made some upgrades to the place to ensure it could handle someone like Lydia not holding back. After all, it could cost a lot of money to replace her whole family estate and training grounds. It was about five-fifty in the morning now which meant hopefully some of them would be showing up by now. Once someone showed up they would find Lydia leaning against a training dummy while holding a bottle in her hand that was meant for a certain member of her team.

Verena was not the sort of person to waste time. Especially if that person was Lydia Ravencrest. The Ravencrest family were perhaps the most important family in Clover unofficially. The Crown, on paper, held the power, but it was the Ravencrest who held status, connections and had contributed much to the Kingdom. To that end, there was an unspoken agreement between many on who truly called the shots within Clover.[break][break]
Lydia and Verena could not have been more opposites as far as their upbringing went. True, both women might have been heiresses, but the families and the environment surrounding them had a drastically different impact on their lives.[break][break]
That wasn't to say Verena held any sort of animosity against Lydia; in fact, it was the opposite. As far as Verena was concerned, the Ravencrest family was single-handedly the most important connection that she could make. And that only added to the stress of her own situation.[break][break]
But she could handle that much.[break][break]
What she couldn't handle was not knowing why Lydia had picked her. Griswold had outperformed her; it wasn't a matter of "debate". Verena had little reason to believe the Captains did not see through her little performance. "If the goal is to impress, then I'll show them something only I can do."[break][break]
She regretted it the moment Griswold had managed to bypass the number. It had made her look exceptionally foolish. She knew it, and she knew that the captains felt it, too.[break][break]
So, then. Why had Lydia Ravencrest chosen her? Verena knew that it was very possible that one of the other two Royal Knight Captains had managed to choose one of them, first. But all the same, she was still chosen.[break][break]
Why?[break][break]
Verena was the only one of the participants in the exam to have actually lost her fight. Even if winning or losing wasn't the goal, it still certainly looked bad. Especially given...[break][break]
Verena was almost at the estate, having entered the borders to the Carrion Kingdom some time ago. She was, of course, riding within the palm of Terra. Not wishing to draw attention by flying on Flügel nor Kikka, Terra seemed the most optimal choice. There was no point in thinking about what had happened three days ago. In fact, doing so would only be worse for her.[break][break]
The brunette had come across the Ravencrest's personal estate. It wasn't just impressive. Verena was floored by simply how gorgeous and large it was. From the cleanly cut grass to the ornate statues in the courtyard. The immaculate blue roof, and the sheer size of the building in question. There could be no doubt that this standard of excellence was only possible for the Ravencrest.[break][break]
Verena had braided her hair into a ponytail, making sure that she would not need to worry about her hair coming into her face. Verena had managed to repair her clothing in this time, but it was becoming too hot to think about wearing her coat. And so, she was only wearing her jumpsuit and dress alongside her black boots.[break][break]
Ultimately, she knew that everyone within the Royal Knights would have already seen. They would have seen that curse. Against her best interests, however, she had to seek out Lydia and ask her the very simple question she had. It was a little confusing at first, but eventually, the brunette found Clover's Light mage leaning up against a training dummy with a bottle of some kind in her hand.[break][break]
"Good morning, Captain," Verena asked, curiously eyeing the bottle.[break][break]
It was obvious from her expression that she wanted to speak, but... it was already difficult enough to approach someone like Lydia. She held the entire future of her family in the palm of her hand. If she wanted to, she could ensure that the Reinsberg would never advance; in fact, she could ruin them just by wishing it.[break][break]
...If Verena made a mistake here, it was very possible that it would be the end of her family's status.[break][break]
Verena was still quite early, and so she felt it prudent to ask while nobody else was around. Though it was getting very close to when people were to show up. She roughly had twenty minutes, at a large guess. Hania was likely already here as well.[break][break]
However, no matter how hard she tried to think of how to ask, she couldn't. What if the pink-haired woman thought Verena was second-guessing her own evaluation? What if she thought that question in of itself was enough to kick her out? What if that sort of weakness--that sort of vulnerability, only served to upset her?[break][break]
Then again, it was entirely possible that Verena's lack of subtleness with something on her mind was also just as much an issue to Lydia. What if she could tell that she wanted to ask her something, but not doing so was proof of some sort of cowardice? The reality was Verena had no idea what to do here.[break][break]
Taking a deep breath, Verena tried her best to calm herself. "uhm... Captain. I apologize for asking this..." Verena began to say, hoping nobody else was near, though knowing down in her gut that Hania could appear at any moment if he hadn't already.[break][break]
"...Why? Griswold proved himself more capable than I did, didn't he? I'm also fully aware that that earlier display of mine was obviously nothing more than showing off rather than anything useful at the end of the day. Especially with how he was able to deal with my golems..."

COMBAT SUMMARY
[break]
[attr="class","verenaver2scroll2"] TL;DR oh yeah, if there is any sort of mantle for royal knights like there was in the show, verena would be wearing that if they were already handed out. [break][break]
"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
Three days....
It has been three days since Hans became a Royal Knight. The dark mage had a lot on his plate recently. He now has duties that he has never thought he would experience before. He was now a soldier for the Kingdom, having to be called when needed. He was no longer a mercenary who did whatever he pleased. He was a servant to the crown now which he has mixed feelings about...but in the end, Hans still believes he has made the right choice. The dark mage felt that this was necessary to help make a better future for those in this Kingdom, especially for those he is close to. This wasn't the only thing on his mind, however. Hans was also busy helping his fiancee, Suna plan and prepare for their wedding. Compared to his Royal Knight duties, Hans might be a bit more...clueless when it comes to the wedding things...and may or may not be stressing a little more about that. Multiple factors have been currently occupying and changing Hans' life...but he needed to try and remain focus. One thing at a time...starting with this mandatory training instructed by his Captain, Lydia.
The dark mage flew towards Carrion on top of his raven golem. As usual, his expression was stoic, but his mind was the exact opposite. Part of him was glad that he ended up in Lydia's squad, since he knew her more compared to the other two captains. She is Suna's mentor and together, the trio has gone through a few dungeons along with other minor interactions. Funny enough, it was Lydia who gave the couple that extra push to express their true feelings for each other....Who knows how long it would've taken if she hadn't said anything. One of the reasons why Hans is grateful towards the Royal woman. Still, it didn't feel like Hans knew enough about her, nor Carrion. Judging by Suna, Hans knew full well that Lydia's training methods were going to be...extreme. Something like that wasn't going to shake Hans. He was already prepared for the worse, or else he wouldn't have become a Royal Knight. He is prepared to lay down his life if it means making a better kingdom for his beloved to live in.
Having made it to the entrance to Carrion, Hans commanded his golem to descend and once he was low enough, the man would hop off and summon it back into his grimoire. The dark mage looked up at the entrance before looking inside. This was his first time coming here, and he was honestly curious about the place. It sort of reminded the dark mage of entering Ryuu for the first time, but he very much expects the experience to be very different.
Hans' attire was a bit more formal now. He currently has on a black vest with some yellow designs and a white long-sleeved shirt underneath. He also has on a pair of black dress pants with matching shoes. Over one of his shoulders his a long-sleeved black coat with similar yellow designs. He looked a little more official now, but still kept that "wild" demeanor of his. His cosmic necklace was still hanging around his neck, inactive for now. The dark mage only brought one of his swords with him, his cherished katana given to him by his late mentor, but has been greatly improved since. It rested sheathed on the side of his waist while the holder holding his grimoire rested on the other side.
The man's overall appearance and energy gave off that he is someone with years of experience, someone who was no stranger to the fiercest of battles...but he still has a few things to learn even with how strong he has become.
Not wasting any more time, Hans finally passed the entrance, but not before activating his ki to help get a better feel of his surroundings. As expected, the place gave off similar vibes to the Noble Regions of Clover, which was fitting for House Ravencrest. The buildings were all regal and the citizens who inhabited the place all looked and felt like they belonged. Unfortunately, the dark mage was not here for sightseeing. He went ahead and started making his way to Lydia's Estate as instructed by the letter. Still, he glanced around a bit as he went along. The dark mage wasn't much of a fan of this sort of stuff, but he can still respect the noble atmosphere of this place.
The dark mage finally made it to his destination and entered the estate. Once he was close enough, the dark mage started to pick up on two familiar ki signatures. One of course being Lydia, but the other was Verena. Seems that she was able to beat the dark mage here.
Verena....
Another person who Hans knows through Suna, and also someone who the dark mage has come to respect. Hans was fortunate to end up in the same squad as her. The dark mage already thought Verena to be someone capable, but seeing her performance in the Exams greatly increased his views on the summoner. She may have lost her spar, but she still proved herself to be a force to be reckoned with despite her timid and reserved nature.
But...there was also something else on the dark mage's mind since that day. Those markings....
Were they tattoos? They could be....but something felt...off about those markings, at least to Hans. He was barely able to see them...but the man could not shake the feeling that there was more to them. He was pondered about asking Verena about them when given the chance, but now was not the time.
Approaching the training area, Hans was going to greet the two before overhearing Verena ask something to Lydia...questioning why she was chosen. Not wanting to intrude on this, the dark mage just stood outside of the entrance, and folded his arms as he listened, closing his eyes. Judging by both of their statuses, Hans can somewhat understand what Verena must be feeling right now without even needing to use his ki. Hans could think of a few reasons why he feels that Verena is worthy....but this was not his place to say. It was a conversation between these two.

[attr="class","haniaimage"]❝I hear a song of woe shadowing our past in sorrow.❞
[attr="class","haniascroll"]Three days. It had been three days since the royal knight exams had come to an end and soon after he was told that he was to fight alongside his sister. Even before he took a step out of the coliseum he already knew that more intense training was coming his and the others ways. The problem was in that moment he honestly didn't care, his body felt heavy and his mind though still sharp was tired. He has gone into the exams with nearly an empty tank and he had left surprised he was still walking. Needless to say, when he arrived back at the estate, his nanny, Winter was beside herself with worry but she was also angry that he would push himself to such an extent where he was obviously well past his limit. She already wanted him to leave the knights and seeing him in the condition he was in only cemented that notion.
For the first two days, Winter hand made sure the white-haired heir didn't leave his bedroom. In fact, he was only allowed to leave his bed for two reasons. He wasn't exactly happy about the restriction but he could understand why she would feel the need to do such a thing. During that time he had gone through the match he had with Valo and analysed it. He entered that exhibition match as the underdog, there was no way to deny it. Going through what actually happened and every potential scenario came to the same conclusion, there was no way he would have landed a hit on the fire mage. The power difference was stacked far too much into Valo's favour. It was the same with speed, no matter what he did he would always be faster. His illusions would slip him up, but he could use golems or his ki to do what was required.
It wasn't as if his spirit dive had done anything to make the chasm like gap any smaller. It was beyond frustrating to the Ravencrest heir, he had pushed himself to the point of collapse and to him, it was all for a 'Better luck next time.' He knew he didn't slack in his training. He wouldn't even dare to think of doing something like that. In his mind, he had let himself and his sister down, this wasn't something he ever took lightly. He didn't feel pity for himself, that would be unbecoming but at the same time, he did feel pathetic. On the day of training he got up at three in the morning, he automatically felt like he was going to faint but pushed himself up and steadily went to wash and change for his normal routine training.
That was a bad idea. He got up so early because he knew that the training with Lydia was to start at six in the morning and with his current health he would need the additional time to complete his morning training and that was without having to spar with one of the generals. Even with how he was feeling and having to stop every now and then there was only a slight discrepancy in his normal time. Then it was time for his personalized death route personally designed by Victoria Lilygate. It was almost like a miniature forest that had sprouted upon the Ravencrest estate. The creation of it was designed to help Hania within his training but made sure he was punished if he messed up. It was because of this training course he was pretty sure Victoria was trying to kill him.
He knew this wasn't actually the way of things but was a running joke. 'Avoid green, touch pink, collect black, destroy blue.' he said reading the instructions, he realized that there were four instructions over the normal two. Normally it was to avoid one colour and collect another while keeping his speed but this would have him needing to keep his speed while doing four things and avoiding traps. He had to wonder why she made it so difficult when his current health was known by all four generals, it was something he could ask his sister later he supposed. He went through his training course and he was most definitely clipped more than a few times by the traps and his speed had noticeably slowed. He had to wonder why the gods hated him so much to had made his body so flimsy when needing recovery.
It would have been around five thirty by the time he got through and so made his way to the training platform already feeling like he'd been put through a gauntlet. Getting there he noticed Lydia was already there, she was wearing a red tank top and a pair of black thigh length shorts, it was clear that she was ready to start as soon as everyone arrived. Winter was also off to the side, she had his medicines and a tray. He moved to her and smiled, he could see the worry in her eyes as he sat to eat and take the medicines in order. He was pretty sure the woman ran a pharmacy at this point as she made all his medicines from scratch. Then again she came from a noble family of well-renowned herbologists and apothecaries. He had asked about his medicines in the past and only got vague answers.
He knew not to push, he did ask the plants out of curiosity for the medicines, lotions, oils, cleansers and teas he used to deal with his health, comas, triggers and blackouts, not about their names or where to find them but rarity and seasons. He didn't like the answers. They were high quality, rare, could only be picked at certain times and needed certain biodomes to flourish. She had a large greenhouse on the estate that would allow light in but prevented anyone from seeing inside. The only person other than Winter that was allowed inside was the head of the house. That rule was firm to everyone family members and staff alike. He guessed that was where everything was grown and made, to be honest from the outside the greenhouse looked more like an actual house if you hadn't known better.
He looked over as the first of the two non Ravencrest entered but had his head turned around as he was given more of his medicines. He was lucky that none of them made him all that drowsy. After taking the tablets he was handed several small cups and drank from each before being given a cup of mint-infused tea. Mint infused tea was his least favourite tea inside the house but he knew there was likely a reason it had been chosen. Soon enough another made their presence known, the dark mage Hans Walker. He had never personally met the man but he knew him through the reputation that he had gained. Winter helped him lay back the pendant of his bracelet glowing brightly in the darkness, though it was starting to become brighter. His white and ice blue male kimono and hakama showing signs of dirt and being torn. He still wasn't happy about that.
He closed his eyes allowing the medicine to take effect. "Sorry to intrude ladies." Winter called over "Lydia, he'll need around five to ten minutes for the medicine to take effect." she said in the code normally only known between head and heir of the family. She knew there were things outsiders couldn't know and this would likely be one of them. This was a normal routine that Lydia would have known given it had happened quite often over the years. All the while Hania was remained completely still and unmoving on the ground, in fact, his breathing was so faint it would be easy to believe him dead. When Lydia gave her reply to Winter she nodded and took her leave but left the required ointments and such that would likely be required going forward. Hania's things clearly in a separate case, everything marked within it for order and quantity.

Rank & Element: Junior ¦ Light Class & Type: Relic ¦ Accessory (bracelet) Magic Specializations: Physical Reinforcement ¦ Healing Appearance & Lore: A simple bracelet made out of reinforced glass with an opalite charm dangling from it almost like a pendulum, that gives off a dull light during the day and a bright light during the night preventing any natural shadow from forming.
There is nothing of major historical importance or deep story into where this item came from. The white-haired heir of the Ravencrest family has suffered from terrible day and night terrors since he was young and still does to this day. When asked what is wrong he brushes it off telling people not to worry it was a condition he had. He will never go into the terrible things he sees, in fact, he personally wishes he could forget he quickly realized that his perfect memory was a double edge sword and at times he truly wished he didn't have it.
His elder sister Lydia was the first to realize that it happened more when he was in an emotional state or surrounded by darkness. She also realized that he refused to sleep unless every light source he could find was active or he would sleep outside under the sun during the day, this wasn't optimal as he was to be trained to take over the family if anything were to happen to Lydia. Still, there wasn't much anyone could think to do to help him as he refused to open up but even if they could that came with a different set of hurdles they had to get over. Hania earlier in his life wouldn't take things from people due to his treatment before being adopted.
It took a while but Lydia finally found a way to help her younger brother, she had a crystal made with light inside and told him to use it when he sleeps. She said it was hers and she just wanted to see if it would help. He was reluctant but she said it only had to be a few days so he accepted. Throughout those few days, he slept somewhat peacefully so it was clear that it helped but not enough, she could only guess that the light wasn't strong enough. She realized this would be fine for a normal child afraid of the dark but it was clear to the pink-haired woman that this wasn't a normal situation.
She personally designed what she believed would help him the most, she chose the materials, their appearance even the opalite that dangles from it. As the bracelet was being made she slowly started to imbue her own element into the glass beads and the opalite as the former was created and the latter was shaped. It took close to a year to complete but Lydia seen it as something that should be done slow and steady, this was to make sure that it was done right the first time and that no matter what it would be near indestructible for whatever he may face in life.
On what is now classed as Hania's eighth birthday after a certain incident happened, she gave him a box, within it laid the bracelet. He was told to keep it with him always as she would be there to keep the darkness at bay and watching over him so he could be at peace while he rested. From that moment he has always kept it with him even if he hasn't always worn it.

[attr="class","florencetext"] Lydia wasn't surprised that Hania was the first to arrive at the training platform. After all, he did live in the estate as well so it would have been a little strange if he wasn't the first to arrive. However, he made his way over to winter instead who had all the medicine the heir of the Ravencrest family needed to take. The captain of course didn't blame her brother for heading to the other women first. After all his treatment was more important than just an idle chat with Lydia. The second member of the team to arrive was Verena a member of the Reinsberg family who wasn't currently doing so hot in the terms of noble power. The brunette was also the only mage in the exams to losing her fight. However, the pink-haired mage had her reasons for picking the younger woman. [break][break] As Verena approached Lydia and spoke the Ravencrest head would stop leaning against the training dummy and would look the younger noble in the eyes. Good morning and you can just call me Lydia. The light mage could of at that point handed Verena the bottle that was in her hand after all it was meant for her. Lydia was well aware the marks everyone saw at the royal knight exams were a curse from Verena's own father. However, unlike most, she got a better look at them while the summoner mage was passed out. Lydia didn't know the full extent of what the curse did. However, Lydia was a prodigy when it came to healing magic not that most people knew that by looking at her. [break][break] So the light mage was able to tell that the curse affected her physically at least when it came to speed. She also had a feeling it might have been slowly killing Verena, After all, her internal organs were a lot small than normal saying they were below average was even a long shot. In all honestly, the captain was surprised that the woman was still alive. However, the bottle in theory with what Lydia had knowledge of should be able to negate the curse at least for a while. However, Lydia wouldn't hand it over just yet as it seemed the summoner mage wanted to tell her something else. Sure enough, a few moments later the women would speak asking why Lydia picked her over Griswold. Well it's simple. [break][break] Sure Griswold offensive-wise is stronger than you. However, you aren't an offensive mage so just looking at it that way would make no sense. You have more versatility than he does. Not to mention you are less rash than he is. So why would I risk taking someone who might be a wild card over someone I know can listen and won't put the whole team at risk? Sure golems will never be better at defense or offense however if we can get you stronger in time we can use them as fodder or a distraction without risking a member of the team. [break][break] After Lydia finished speaking Winter would approach the head of the Ravencrest family speaking in a way that only the head and heir of the family knew. The captain would simply nod as she was used to it taking that long by now. She would then toss the bottle to Verena. Drink that it should help negate your curse for now. I can't get rid of it as I don't know exactly how it works nor do I have the time to find out with a deamon threat around the corner. However it that potion should negate your curse for a month or two. It should take about five minutes to take effect. [break][break] So to finish up I chose you because I thought you were the better option. The light mage would then pull out a cigarette lighting it and taking a drag before speaking again. The training is simple all three of you are going to fight me. You don't have to hold back at all. You guys have five minutes to make a plan or anything else you'd like to do after that the fight will start.

Verena wasn't an astute sensor, but she wasn't hopeless. Perhaps due to her primary element allowing her to connect with the various elements, she had some level of sensory, though by no means was it efficient in combat scenarios. She liked to think of it more as being "aware" of the existence of someone or something within a very limited area, but incapable of knowing where exactly they were if they were not in her immediate range of sight.[break][break]
In Hania's case, the glow from the bracelet didn't need her to be aware of his presence. Clad in a foreign, but dirtied outfit that she assumed was eastern, similar to the same ones that she had seen in Ryuu, he was laying on the ground. Verena was worried about him; it wasn't like the heir to expose himself in such a vulnerable manner. It was clear that he was in a great deal of pain. And though she had managed to become efficient enough with healing magic so that she would be able to dismiss most curses (aside from the single, obvious one that plagued herself...), she hadn't quite managed the ability to simply ignore them.[break][break]
For this reason, she was aware of Hans' presence, especially given that she had met him several times in the past. She wouldn't forget someone with such rare magic. It was only natural that she wanted to learn his magic. In fact, it was probably for the best that she take this opportunity to learn it now. Though she hadn't quite managed to find a smith capable of incorporating her magic into an item, let alone a weapon quite yet. It was difficult to do.[break][break]
Even still, Hans seemed polite enough to give her a moment to talk to Lydia. That was ideal, especially given the brunette still needed to think of how to explain those markings. She wasn't exactly happy to have been exposed like that, but she knew it was very much a possibility. She hadn't expected Griswold's magic to be anywhere nearly as potent as it was. She would have worn more otherwise.[break][break]
Verena listened as the Royal Knight Captain explained her logic. Griswold had only managed to demonstrate an aptitude for offensive magic. She also noted that he was more rash by comparison. Verena took a moment to question that, though only in her mind. She did suppose he was very proactive; when they had met in the dungeon, he had attempted to cremate the bodies of those who had fell victim to the trap, without thinking about what could possibly happen if the fires couldn't be put out.[break][break]
Though she personally didn't think of that behavior as naive, she also knew that at that time, the elf was a member of the Crimson Lions, and Lydia was the Vice-Captain. She likely was more familiar with the man than she was as a result.[break][break]
Not just that, Lydia pointed out that she had demonstrated more diversity in her skillset. Thinking about it objectively, she supposed that was true. She had her aptitude for defense creation as well as restraining, though it didn't exactly matter much in the end...[break][break]
Her golems were her only means of being able to fight against Griswold, but they weren't enough. That was the primary issue at hand. Against a specialist, golems didn't mean much...[break][break]
Lydia believed that she could still be useful by using her golems for diversionary purposes. Truthfully, that saddened the brunette a bit -- enough for Hans to pick up on with his ki. However, she knew that was ultimately where their greatest strength would end up being. Her golems were only capable of doing so much. At a certain point, she needed to be able to fight, too...[break][break]
No, there was no point in being negative. Lydia Ravencrest had acknowledged her, as well as the likes of Satori Ryuutei and Ardere Kasai. With so many powerful mages like them acknowledging her, she knew she had no excuse to be so hard on herself. She was only being detrimental to herself.[break][break]
However, what caught her attention was the potion in her hand, tossing it. Verena stumbled with it at first but managed to secure it. "E-Eh?"[break][break]
"However, that potion should negate your curse for a month or two."
[break]
Verena's eyes widened in shock. If anyone else had made such a claim, Verena would have likely simply smiled at them and nodded her head. She probably would have tried it anyway, just as a show of good faith, but ultimately she wouldn't have believed it. But this was Lydia Ravencrest. If Ardere was known as both the physically strongest mage in Clover (with his magic only going so far as to enhance that even further), then Lydia was known as the physically fastest mage as well as the greatest healer in Clover. With the way that woman was, she wouldn't make such a claim if she wasn't one hundred percent sure about it.[break][break]
The woman's eyes darted towards the potion in her hands, then back to Lydia. "...I'll... I'll be able to move like everyone else?" she asked. "I'll actually be able to run? I'll actually be able to gather herbs, move things, lift things. I'll be able to ..."[break][break]
It was just a few months. But for Verena, it was a few months that could postpone the inevitable. As well as her current situation. These few months were everything to her. Lydia had just handed her a life that she hadn't really got the chance to experience. As soon as she had set out on becoming a mage, it was snatched from her.[break][break]
Verena was so overcome with emotion that it seemed as though she was about to cry. She was trying her best to keep that from showing though. She didn't want to cry. Not infront of the Ravencrest. Not in front of Suna's fiancee. She couldn't. She didn't want to. She didn't. And yet...[break][break]
Verena had to slide her glasses off her face, using her arm to wipe her tears as she turned her back on the woman. She couldn't let herself show this weakness to anyone. She had to be stronger than this. Verena was an avid scholar; that much was true for most of the Reinsberg. But these past six years, she had almost exhausted herself trying to find anything, anything at all, about curses. Anything that would allow her to just... not succumb to that curse that had taken away so much from her.[break][break]
After composing herself, the woman downed the potion in one fell swoop, making sure not to waste even a single drop. Every bit counted as far as she was concerned.[break][break]
Whether or not Lydia chose to finish what she was saying before or after Verena had a moment, the brunette still made sure to listen attentively, even if her focus was split between what had just been given to her. Now that she knew what the Ravencrest had offered her, the Reinsberg at this moment felt even further the need to go above and beyond what was expected. She had to do nothing short of excellent. She owed Lydia more than the Ravencrest might ever know. She had to work even harder.[break][break]
Even if temporary, Lydia had just freed her from the shackles of the source of that which held her back. Verena Nicole Ruhm Reinsberg could not afford to give her anything less than her best at all times. Not just because she was a Royal Knight. But because the woman had just given her hope for the first time in years.[break][break]
Verena approached Hania, deciding that it would be easier for her to come to him in his current condition, and expected Hans to follow. The three were to come up with a strategy of some sort to fight with Lydia, but all the brunette had to work with were stories of Lydia's exploits. Surely, not all of them were true. If that were the case, then none of them had a chance.[break][break]
"Before anything, Hania. Are you... okay? I could use that ring to help you if you would like. You helped me back in the Royal Knight Exams; it seems only fair to return the favor," she said.[break][break]
Once that was sorted, however. The much bigger issue remained. How on earth were they to fight Lydia Ravencrest? "...I've a few ideas, but truthfully, they're decidedly based on my own lack of knowledge of Lydia's fighting. I know she has immense speed and her light magic is to be feared. Hans' Dark Magic is probably our only shot if even a little of what I've heard is true..." she said.[break][break]
Despite the obvious concern in her words, the woman was smiling near the end. She did show genuine concern when addressing Hania, but as she talked about Lydia, a smile couldn't help but form upon her face. She was sincerely smiling. From the bottom of her heart, she couldn't help but smile. She knew it wouldn't last. She didn't know what to expect from this exercise, and though she was nervous, the gratitude she felt far outweighed that anxiety.[break][break]
Yes, Clover's strongest mage was likely to beat all of them into early graves. But it was also the same person that had given her a few months to deny that same curse. To let her live a life she had been robbed of. Lydia acknowledged her. Now, Verena had to make sure she didn't let the other regret that decision.[break][break]

[attr="class","verenaver2scroll2"] TL;DR verena a lil' baby. she's beyond grateful for that potion. a month or two of normalcy is everything to her. doesn't wanna' be seen crying in front of lydia. hans probably saw her, though she chose not to draw attention to that. attempts to strategize, but knows she's lacking knowledge hania would have. even still, she chooses to make sure he's okay to be doing this first and foremost. didn't acknowledge hans yet SOLELY because i have no idea what he's doing.[break][break]
also inb4 poison and verena dies lmfaooooooo. [break][break]
"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
No, it appears that Hans was a little off on his ki sensing. Someone else was already there before Verena, two others to be exact. One of them he did not recognize, but the other signature...it belonged to Lydia's brother, Hania. His presence was enough to make the dark mage open his eyes a little. The two had only briefly met during the Spirit Ball which could be easily forgotten, but it felt like that the dark mage knew him longer than that...But that isn't what mostly got the man's attention. The signature Hania gave off felt familiar, but not one of a longtime friend. It felt almost...eerie. Even back at the Spirit Ball, Hans felt hints of this. It bothered the dark mage a little, but he needed to focus. Perhaps he just has an odd ki presence? Hans still wasn't exactly a professional on ki, but knew that everyone has their own unique signature...Maybe this was just how Hania's is?
Still....
The dark mage's attention went back to the conversation between the two ladies. He silently agreed with most of Lydia's views of Verena, but as far as golems go, Hans felt that they can be utilized for more than just fodder, especially if used properly...which he feels that Verena is more than capable of. The dark mage could sense Verena's hint of sadness with his ki. It was clear she felt the same way, causing the man to frown slightly. Hans may not exactly know how much, but he can tell how much golem magic means to her not only through his ki, but with how highly she spoke about her magic back when they first met. Verena may not be aware of this, but it is because of her as well as his previous greatsword that he now takes the time to properly work on his own golem spells. Verena will just have to show Lydia how capable her golems can truly be.
Hans then sensed something being tossed to Verena. A bottle? The man rose an eyebrow, wondering what it was for, but he didn't have to wait long for an answer. "A curse?" Hans muttered under his breath. Is that...what those markings were? She was inflicted with a curse? From the sounds of it, this curse appears to be stronger than any ordinary curse or hex spell, especially if she needs to take some sort of medicine for it.
It was clear that the summoner was more than happy about this, if only being temporary. The dark mage wondered how such a terrible thing could happen to her. Did she come into contact with a malevolent witch?
A witch....
A curse...that's affecting her body....
This reminded Hans of the time Suna was inflicted with a curse that rendered her mute by a rather envious witch. They were able to cure it using a necklace that once belonged to Hans' mother. Maybe...it could do the same for Verena?
Of course, Hans saved that thought for later. The training was about to begin, and the opponent is...Lady Ravencrest herself.
Hans finally properly walked into the training area, his coat still over his shoulder as he walked over the other two. Hania looks like he must've been pushing himself which concerned the dark mage a bit...but that ki signature of his was still bothering him at the back of his mind. Hans was able to keep his focus though and listened to Verena and nodded. "Dark magic has the potential to snuff out light magic...but in Lydia's case..." He glanced over to the woman in question, his demeanor still calm. "I fear it won't exactly be as simple. Even with my defensive spells protecting us." The woman has the three of them outsped and outgunned. The dark mage is fully aware that this isn't a battle that they can win...but the objective was to train, and get stronger...to learn from this.
Even though Suna trains with Lydia, Hans is just as clueless as Verena when it comes to how Lydia exactly fights.
Despite discussing a strategy, Hans could feel that hint of happiness Verena was feeling not long ago. It was even a bit infectious as Hans gave a small almost determined smile before turning back towards the summoner. "Still, however this goes down, we're going to do our best as a team." Hans claimed with a nod. He then looked over to Hania. "Hania right? You have the most experience with Lydia out of the three of us...Any suggestions?"

[attr="class","haniaimage"]❝I hear a song of woe shadowing our past in sorrow.❞
[attr="class","haniascroll"]Hania had remained completely still from the moment he was helped to lay down flat on the ground, normally he would never take his medicine outside due to it leaving him in a vulnerable state. This was due to one of the medicines being a strong and fast-acting paralytic that would leave his system in five to ten minutes. The only reason it was added to his medical regime was that as a child the white-haired heir would start training or doing tasks the moment he finished taking the medicine, not allowing them enough time to start acting properly. Winter disliked giving Hania his medicine anywhere but his bedroom but the heir to the Ravencrest trusted his sister with his life and knew that no harm would come to him while he was unable to protect himself while she was around. He was fully aware of what was happening around him but he was unable to react to anything.
'Five minutes to come up with a plan, is it going to work through your system before then?' the ice spirit asked through the bond with Hania 'No, they're going to be on their own for at least ten minutes given the strength she gave me.' he sent back Amostia, it wasn't a favourable situation to be in but there was nothing he could do at current. His breathing was very subtle as lay there completely unmoving his eyes closed as if dead or sleeping. 'You are going to have to speak for me Amostia, I can't help them like this.' he said to the spirit 'I am not a communication spell.' he said quickly 'Amostia, I never said you were but I can't even open my eyes how am I going to speak?' he asked the bird spirit.
'It's your own fault for pushing too far past your limits.' the spirit scolded 'You didn't exactly help matters Amostia, you encouraged me to push past those limits when I was still trying to learn partial because you were correct. We don't have the luxury of time with the threat those monsters pose.' he sent back, his body shook for a moment his mana flaring slightly for a moment before it died down. Lydia would have easily caught the flare and the change of the feel of the mana even if it was brief. 'Please, I want to help them and you are the only way I can do it Amostia.' he was almost pleading the spirit at this point to actually do as he asked. 'Fine.' he sent begrudgingly and materialized on top of his chest looking up to the dark mage and summoner. "He can't talk right now." he said simply.
Moving to turn towards Verena he cocked his head before shaking it "Don't do anything his body will instantly reject it, you'll waste your mana and I'm unsure how he'll react at current." the spirit said some of his feathers darkened compared to the white and ice blue from the rest of his body. He currently was reacting to Hania's energy, he took flight and landed on Verena's shoulder looking down at the ring on her left ring finger "He actually made that himself, poured his own mana into it after he did something to purify it" he said hopping to her arm when he got a chance "He's very strange but didn't want to give you anything but the purest thing he could." He said flapping his wings as if shrugging, he had no idea what the hell went through the ice mage's head mainly because he kept himself closed off even to him.
"Yes, his name is Hania and he would hope that he'd have the most experience as he has been training with his sister for the last ten years." the spirit said hopping onto Hans's head and perching quite contently "We aren't going to be able to outrun her, there is no way we are going to out power her, she will hold back but not all the way as we are expected to be able to hold our own given the status we now hold." the spirit said as if speaking someone else's words "We can't allow her to get close if we do we'll get broken bones, it really is as simple as that and don't try to be sneaky her sensory is off the charts and she'll see it coming." the bird continued "He won't be able to help for around ten minutes so until then you're on your own. Good luck." the bird said flying down to almost roost on Hania's chest as there was nothing that he could do currently.

This was Verena's first meeting with Amostia. She had, of course, heard of the ice spirit. Or perhaps it was more accurate to say that she had known Hania had come into contact with the Ice Spirit in the Ryuutei village. But either way, that did not change the fact she hadn't ever actually met the guardian prior to this moment.[break][break]
Amostia's warning to Verena made her worry more, in truth. "Wh-What happened to him?" she asked, her worry very obvious.[break][break]
Would the training even be possible at this point? She had heard the woman say something to Lydia about something needing time to kick in. Whatever was going on, if Hania was just only capable of laying on the ground, incapable of even speech, the fact of the matter was he was clearly in no condition to spar against someone like Lydia. Even if the medicine helped, that only meant it was going to just be delaying the inevitable. He'd be right back to this state as soon as it wore off, if not worse.[break][break]
There was no way there was a miracle drug that would just miraculously heal all of his ailments if he was in this bad of shape. He would only end up in worse condition. Surely, she wasn't the only one who knew that. Even still... it wasn't her place to say anything. She wanted to. She wanted to reprimand him for even thinking of trying to train when his body was in this state. But she couldn't. Biting her tongue, Verena let out a heavy sigh.[break][break]
"...My healing magic is limited right now to just dealing with curses, stemming from studies about the magic. Even if there was no issue with me trying to, I'm not sure I could do much..." Verena admitted.[break][break]
There was the matter of the ring that Hania had given her, and she had considered trying to put it on him. But Amnostia's warning was more than enough reason to deter her from trying, regardless.[break][break]
Hans explained the situation with his magic going up against Lydia's own. They wouldn't be able to rely on the advantage the one magic held against the other. Furthermore, Lydia was more experienced, faster, and held far more power than all of them. Hans' magic was slower comparatively, and Hania was in no condition to be fighting.[break][break]
Amnostia noted that it was in their best interest to keep Lydia away. This gave Verena a bit of an idea. Or rather, it gave her only one means of hoping for something to possibly work. "...It might be best for this training if I use the golems just as Lydia noted. As distractions. Dark magic is slow, so we need to rely on alternative means to ensure you'll be able to use it. Right now, you're our best bet at trying to accomplish anything. Keeping Lydia occupied and at a distance. I'll create hordes. Don't worry about hitting them if it means being able to land a hit on Lydia. As fast as she is, we'll stand no chance if I'm not willing to deal with friendly fire. Formation wise, it would be for the best if I'm in the back."[break][break]
"I can tell the potion Lydia gave me is useful, but my body still needs to adjust accordingly. In addition, your defensive magic is still superior to anything I have right now, Hans. Hania is the best sensor within our group as well, so if we find ourselves put under any illusions, it would be for the best to try to have him. But..." Verena glanced down to the resting Hania.[break][break]
"...Ideally, I'd prefer for you to get as much rest as possible. You're risking losing a lot more if something went wrong in this training, no matter how potent that medicine is. And that worries me..."
"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
In the current state Hania is in, a part of Hans wasn't expecting the Ravencrest heir to say anything after he asked his question, but it still wouldn't hurt to try. What Hans wasn't expecting was the sudden appearance of a small bird-like creature on top of Hania's chest. The dark mage was about to question the creature, but put two and two together, thinking back to the moment Hania went in his dive form back against Valo. It was his spirit. It informed the dark mage and summoner that Hania couldn't talk right now, causing the merc to look over at Hania. Whatever he was given must've knocked him out cold. Still, Hans imagines that the heir will be fine soon enough, especially since Lydia still called him here for training.
The spirit then landed itself on Hans' head after talking a bit about Hania and that ring he apparently gave Verena. "Uh." The merc wasn't really expecting it to land in his hair, but he didn't fuss about it. Instead, his eyes shifted up a little as the spirit continued to speak. Outrunning and outpowering Lydia was out of the question, Hans figured as much. The dark mage did not know much about Lydia's sensory skills, but judging from what the spirit said, it was clear that sneak attacks would do nothing to someone like her. "Not allow her to get close..." the dark mage muttered, referring to what the spirit said. Hans looked over at Lydia as he pondered this a little. Also looks like that he and Verena won't get any help from Hania for a little bit as well.
The merc was now looking over at the summoner the moment she spoke up. Looks like Verena had some ideas of her own, wanting to utilize her golems as distractions as well as keeping herself more to the back in this formation. The dark mage simply nodded before looking back over at Lydia. "Right." Seems that his squadmates are going to have to rely on the dark mage the most in this.
"Alright then..." With that, the mage's grimoire floated out of its holder, a dark aura surrounding it as the book opened, landing on Hans' Sinister Shield spell. A similar aura slowly started to manifest around Hans followed by Verena and Hania's bodies. The aura vaguely looks like dark mist, lingering around their bodies. But the dark mage wasn't done yet.
His grimoire then flipped back a few pages before landing on another spell, The Hunt a "Dark Armor Creation" spell that coated both Verena and the unconscious Hania in a suit of armor that resembles that of a hunter. Not only did this armor protect them, but increased their physical speed a bit. He doubted that this small speed buff would help much, but it was better than nothing. They would probably notice that Hans did not place the same spell on himself...He had something else in mind.
"Draconic Drive." Hans muttered before tossing his jacket to the ground and with those words, his grimoire flipped a few pages before landing on the correct spell, the dark mana surrounding the book darkening as it grows in power. The dark aura around Hans increased as a suit of armor formed onto his body, appearing as if it were crafted from the scales of a dragon. The armor did not just protect the merc's body, but strengthen it as well, matching it to some of the most dangerous spells. This was currently the strongest of Hans' "Dark Armor Creation" spells, so he hoped that it would serve some use.
Hans then increased his own speed with his Speed Bind spell, causing his existing dark aura to flare up! With that, both the dark mage and his squadmates were armored and/or powered up.
But the merc wanted to do just one more thing...
The merc made sure he was positioned in front of his squadmates before raising a hand up, and from his grimoire, the dark mage summoned two dark golems, one on each side of the dark mage that resembles a cross between sword and dragon wings. These Draconic Blades were around the same size as lesser golems, but their strength outmatches the likes of those types of golems. Following Verena's suggestion, the dark mage wanted to help the summoner out a little with the horde plan, but he was mostly doing this to test Lydia...see how dangerous she truly is.
With that, Hans lowered his hand and gestured it in Lydia's direction. "Strike." With that simple command, Hans' golems went soaring at the light mage at their highest speed blade first, attempting to impale her.

[attr="class","haniaimage"]❝I hear a song of woe shadowing our past in sorrow.❞
[attr="class","haniascroll"]Amostia looked at Verena when she asked what happened to Hania, he knew he could tell the woman absolutely everything but the issue was he knew just how private the ice mage was on his health issues. It was something that the family had worked to keep hidden from the world at large and he had been requested to respect his want for privacy. He had begrudgingly agreed at first but over their time working together he could understand why he would need such things not to be known. "Training." he said simply, it wasn't a lie but it wasn't a whole truth either but it would be one that could be easily accepted. "There's no need to worry, he'll be fine and able to train soon." he said trying to make the young woman be at ease but in truth, he was starting to worry himself about the youth.
Even Hania could understand how his current condition would worry anyone seeing it even several times afterwards, it was one of the main reasons he preferred taking his medicines in private but he was expected to be at the training platform by six that morning. He knew even his health wouldn't be a good enough excuse for being late because the argument would be made that he should have taken it earlier. "You know he is completely awake and aware of what you are both saying and your movements to some extent." the ice spirit notified the pair. "He wants you to know that you shouldn't worry about him, he's been training since slightly before his eighth birthday and has been in far worse states. That he'll be fine but thanks you for worrying about him" the bird said looking at Verena though not moving in any other way.
"Lydia is able to do spells that can affect single, multiple and entire area's using your golems in such a manner would likely only waste your mana." the bird spoke once more "A pincer attack might work but that is going to take a lot of timing and understanding of everyone's movements but it would be the best way of doing things." the bird continued as if speaking someone else's words, Amostia looked at Hania "Accepting friendly fire under anything but the direst circumstances should never be acceptable." the bird said "Besides this is merely training and you're talking about friendly fire, we need to fight smart and this is anything but." looking up at the pair, they asked for the ice mages input but at the same time it seemed like the advice he was giving wasn't entirely being listened to. He could understand trial and error but he wasn't wanting another set of broken bones for it.
His eyes opened but barely it was clear that it was taking a lot for him to do that one simple task, his mouth moved a little as if trying to say something but no sound came. "Hania, you aren't this stupid now stop fighting against what your body needs!" the bird scolded him, but before Amostia even finished he had stopped his breathing laboured just due to doing what he had "You're too stubborn for your own good at times." he said releasing a sigh, his head turning towards Lydia who likely caught wind of what was going on even with the planning. The spirit knew full well that the pink-haired woman was very much a mother bear when it came to him, especially when he was in a condition like he was currently.
'I need... I want...' his mana was starting to fluctuate 'I can't... I refuse...' the ground around him becoming frosted 'I must... let me...' His eyes opened once more, his ice-blue eyes now holding a storm grey limbal ring in each eye. His breathing was steady enough but still held strain to it as he slowly moved to his feet. "You're an idiot." The spirit said moving to his head 'Will you shut up.' he sent to his spirit 'What? Do you really think they'll give me five to ten minutes to recover? No. We don't have the luxury of such things. I fight with them come what may.' he sent moving towards the other, the bracelet shining brighter than it had before. "This isn't a battle, this is training!" the spirit said 'Yes, I am aware but if I can't do it now when it can push the limits safely how will I be able to do it when it matters?' he sent back.
The spirit nipped his ear showing he was less than happy with this situation 'You're fighting against your medicines are you insane?''Have you met my family? It's a calculated risk, both myself and Lydia will be taking note of my condition and I will take time when required but I can move.' he sent to the bird "Oh! That makes it all well and good. You're still unable to speak!" he said flapping his wings slightly in frustration 'You're just adding to my headache' he sent calmly the bird nipping his ear once more only to be waved off by the ice mage. He put his hand out to try and stop Hans before he started casting but it was too late, he looked to Amostia "You've just wasted your mana, she will easily overpower it even though she'll be holding back." the bird said
It didn't matter, the spar had started his eyes went to Hans "Which weapons are you proficient in?" the bird would as remaining as the one who would speak for the ice mage until he could do so on his own which they were both hoping would be some time soon for now he could only wait for an answer and look to the others to see how they moved, he knew no matter what he wouldn't be able to move fast enough away from his sister even if she was holding back her speed. He would have to accept the hit and recover, it wasn't his ideal doing things as currently, he felt like he was going through his first session of training ever again.

Type & Uses: Trigger ¦ 4 Uses Rank & Specialization: Junior ¦ Healing Mana Cost: 8 mana per trigger ¦ 15 recharge Range & Speed: 25m ¦ 10 m/s Stats Affected: +4 Control Description: The pendant starts to pulsate and hovers into his hand, holding almost as if it was a pen or calligraphy brush he writes the name of the person he wants to heal in the air as if he was writing on paper. It seems to stay for a few seconds before disappearing, the moment it does a gentle and warm light forms around the person in question healing them for junior rank damage. With the use of ammo rules, additional peoples names can be written per trigger. While under the ability of this spell it will actively attempt to cleanse any curses, debuffs, hexes, venoms, toxins or poisons that may afflict the uses as per the clashing rules. As this is only a junior rank spell it can do nothing but close minor wounds
Type & Uses: Flow ¦ 3 uses ¦ 2 cooldown Rank & Specialization: Junior ¦ Physical Reinforcement ¦ Healing Mana Cost: 8 ¦ 4 Range & Speed: 25m ¦ 10m/s Stats Affected: +2 Speed (wielder only) Description: Runes of light appear up the outside of the user's legs and arms this allowing them to move 2 m/s faster than they could naturally. The runes give off a warmth that is able to heal for junior rank damage, with the use of ammo rules, the wielder need only hold the pendant and speak a person's name to have it be able to heal them. While under the ability of this spell it will actively attempt to cleanse any curses, debuffs, hexes, venoms, toxins or poisons that may afflict the uses as per the clashing rules. As this is only a junior rank spell it can do nothing but close minor wounds.
Type & Uses: NA Rank & Specialization: Junior ¦ Physical Reinforcement Mana Cost: NA Range & Speed: NA ¦ NA Stats Affected: -- Description: In the beginning, this ability is inactive, it is only with the use and bonding of the item itself a deeper understanding allows the hidden secret left by a sister wanting to protect the younger brother they've treasured for close to thirteen years. This ability will become an imbued speed buff when it ranks to intermediate.
[attr="class","florencetext"] The pink-haired royal would listen as Verena just started to ask a whole bunch of questions. Honestly, Lydia couldn't blame her after all for who knows how many years the curse was limiting what the summoner mage was able to do. Yes, it should allow you to do all of those things. However, if it doesn't let me know and I can work on making adjustments to it. The light mage would leave the three younger mages to make their plan on how to take down Lydia. Sure if she wanted to she could have paid attention to the movement of their lips to read them. However, that would give away the whole plan making it a little less fun for the former vice-captain. [break][break] That being said The glass mage had a feeling that Hans was going to be their main attacker. After all, anyone who could sense worth a damn was able to tell the dark mage was stronger than the other two. It was possible he was even an archmage by now which put him on the same ranking scale as the glass mage. However, even being the same rank as Lydia the gap between the two was still massive. After all, if he was truly an archmage he has just hit that point. Lydia however was at what most counted as the peak of magical power. However if one was to ask Lydia she would say she hadn't reached her yet. After all, she had yet to fight a foe that made her go all out. [break][break] In all honestly, the former vice-captain didn't even know just how fast her magic allowed her to move. Lydia had just finished up a few stretches as the others started to make their move. She would watch as the dark mage spent what seemed to be a lot of his mana at the start. Lydia in turn would only summon one spell. Hania would of course know this was Lydia's Signature spell making it stronger than other spells of the same tier. Glass Magic: Gáe Bulg After the first spear appeared in her right hand five more would appear behind her. After all, there were now six foes she had to fight thanks to Hans' golems. [break][break] As the golems reached her to attack Lydia would easily dodge the attacks from both golems. After all, there was no way something that slow would even have a chance to even hit Lydia. She would then throw her first two spears at the golems which would deal grand damage to the golems if they hit. Lydia would then throw the next two spears at Verena and Hania aiming to take out the defense spell on the two of them. She would then try and use her superior speed to get next to Hans stabbing him in the side with the final spear that was still in her hands. While she was doing so she would try and kick his feet out from under him. regardless of the attacks on Hans worked the vice-captain would move thirty meters to the left to avoid getting surrounded by all of the mages and the golems.

"Of course. I'll let you know if anything seems off, too," Verena said to Lydia before moving back to meet with her team.[break][break]
Hans didn't seem to have any issue with her plan and was more than willing to go with it. However, Hania spoke up as Hans was taking action. That sort of gung-ho action did catch her off guard, but she remembered that his magic was much slower compared to everyone else. With Lydia as their opponent, he had to make sure he had time to prepare accordingly. But because of that, Verena had to act just as well.[break][break]
Hania spoke up, however, in protest of Verena's plan. A pincer attack wouldn't accomplish anything, however. She had learned that in her fight against Griswold. Her sensory was too sharp for a pincer attack to ever actually have any chance of taking effect. Surely, Hania knew that. Not just that, if Lydia possessed even a single area-of-effect spell, then it didn't matter whatsoever.[break][break]
It was already hard enough on Verena to suggest that she use her golems in such a manner. Hania reminding her of this weighed heavily on her heart. But if they didn't think of this as preparation for fighting against an archdaemon, then there was no way that any of them would go. They had to be willing to make some level of sacrifice; there was no way that they were going to go up against something as powerful as that without taking some level of injury. If they could minimize the casualties amongst their ranks, that was for the better.[break][break]
But in any scenario, Hania was in no condition for this training. Amnostia confirmed as much; if training had brought the Ravencrest to this state, to begin with, then it was for the best that Hans and Verena try to hold the fort as best as possible. It wasn't that Hania was dead weight though. Verena knew better than to believe that. But right now, it was just best that he rest. If he pushed himself, he risked jeopardizing so much more than just status.[break][break]
Verena kept her position behind Hans as his Sinister Shield took effect, enveloping all three in a dark misty-like effect. This mist seemed to protect herself, coating herself in a protective veil that didn't obstruct her vision. The other spell that Hans seemed to enhance her speed, armoring her. The protective nature of Dark magic was in full effect she felt.[break][break]
"Good," she thought to herself.[break][break]
As Hans cast his third spell to armor himself with a specialty case, Verena knew that there wasn't going to be much time before Lydia shot out her own spells. Her grimoire was already ready. Indeed, she could cast out her golems right now, but they'd quickly be dismantled. The best case of action was to do with what Hans was doing, aiming to first prepare accordingly.[break][break]
"Summoner Creation Magic: Sonia," Verena called out, calling upon two of her Sound based golems. These were the fastest of the golems that she was able to conjure up.[break][break]
Lydia had already seen them in action, so there was no real element of surprise here. However, mobility was essential in a fight against Lydia, and so any edge she could take was an essential move.[break][break]
They could not outspeed the Lightspeed Paradox. They could not overpower her. They could not corner her. Of that, there was no doubt. But that didn't mean they could afford to give up. The archdaemon might have been one of the only things that could have posed a threat to her. To that end, they needed to be suitable support. Or even more ideally, just as strong.[break][break]
Hans created golems that resembled swords, sending them right towards Lydia. At this same time, Lydia's grimoire shot open, and Verena responded in kind. She fully expected an offensive spell, and sure enough, six spears of glass were readied. Wait.[break][break]
Six? Two golems. Three opponents. Surely, Lydia wouldn't target Hania when he was prone. He might have showed up, but he was in no position to even consider fighting back. Hans had already cast some spells to protect the heir, but...[break][break]
Hania was trying to speak to Hans, but Verena wasn't sure if the heir to the Ravencrest family knew that now that the fighting began, it was going to take all of their focus just to not accidentally die when Lydia began fighting. When they had a break, that would be more ideal to criticize and converse[break][break]
Timing. Timing was everything. The golems fell to those spears. But then two more came. Their targets were...[break][break]
Immediately, Verena's eyes widened. Hania was without question the target of one. Without even thinking about it, she cast Carbon Magic: Survival Instinct directly in front of Hania. At the very least, she'd be able to utilize the restraints to try to drain a bit of Lydia's mana this way.[break][break]
Verena knew that to sustain that spell, she'd have to-[break][break]
Huh? The spear had managed to penetrate right through the defenses granted to her through Hans' spell. It had shredded through it with ease, dealing a noticeable amount of damage to her mana skin. Dark magic did have an advantage against Light magic, didn't it?[break][break]
...No. This was what Hans meant. This was the difference between the two.[break][break]
It was fortunate that her spell had responded to the spear accordingly, reinforcing itself at the point the spear hit. Her wall had in a split second put enough pressure upon the point of contact as though it was about to become a diamond; that much was necessary just to survive the impact, and even then she could tell that it had been seriously chipped away, almost completely punctured.[break][break]
But she had at least managed to keep Hania from getting hit. That was more than enough to her.[break][break]
As Lydia tried engaging Hans, Verena ordered one Sonia to intercept the attack. It was inevitable that it would perish, but right as it did, another chain was shot forth from the wall near Hania. As all threw were in close proximity, there was a chance it might manage to strike Lydia. If it did, it would seamlessly pierce right through her without causing any pain. Instead, it would attack her mana and mana regenerative abilities instead.[break][break]
The other Sonia remained on standby, though it was ordered to attack if Lydia readied another spell, or if Lydia advanced closer to the group instead of moving thirty meters to the left.[break][break]
Lydia's sheer speed and power being seen like this made the woman glad that she was an ally to Clover and not a daemon or other threat. It was as inspiring as it was terrifying.[break][break]
But right now, Verena had to give it her all. To stay with the plan, Verena summoned more golems -- notably, Kikka. The bizarre golem was sent to try to push her back her get her focus on them, summoning the maximum number she was capable of for the time being as they all went in for an attack. This was only done if the woman did not actually move back, however.[break][break]
It was likely a pointless endeavor, but Verena hoped that it would buy her enough time to try to put some distance, no matter how faint, from her and Lydia, moving back towards back about ten meters two o'clock.
[break]
COMBAT SUMMARY
[break]
[attr="class","verenaver2scroll2"] TL;DR verena summons sonia while hans is prepping. as lydia engages with gae bulg, verena instinctively puts up a wall in front of hania since he's prone and in no condition to fight. she herself takes senior damage to her mana skin, and all buffs from defensive spell probably get nullified. rather than stay shocked, she sees lydia try to engage hans next, and sends one of her golems to intercept her instead. after it inevitably dies, she tries taking advantage of the close proximity for her defense spell to shoot out a chain after it survives via juggernaut. at which point, sonia was to engage lydia if she moves closer, while verena cast more golems to try to push her back in the form of her flying golems, which would try to assail her from the sky. this description probably forgot some stuff so i'd suggest reading it all in full tbh :<[break][break]
"When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back."
According to Hania's spirit, the heir has been training like this since he was about eight, so this was normal for him. Hans could relate since he was forced into torturous training by his father at a rather young age. It had left both emotional and physical scars on the dark mage. He used to have trouble sleeping because of the trauma and stress he went through. Even after he escaped to Clover with his mother, those nightmares lingered, haunting the man....or rather they used to. It's been about a year now since the dark mage was last plagued with these nightmares, and he owes it to the people he has met since. His mind has been freed from his cursed memories...
Or...at least that's what he leads himself to believe....
The dark mage was now preparing some spells, most of them defensive to protect himself and his teammates. As he did this, Hans continued to listen to the spirit speak, giving out more information and advice as well as its or rather Hania's grievances towards using Verena's golems as fodder. Unfortunately, Hans did not have his complete attention on the discussion of his squadmates as he should've. He was mostly focused on wanting to test just how dangerous Lydia is, and went right in, sending his sword-like golems at the woman! Hans' actions were a little rash, being clouded with him wanting to test his defenses on the Lightspeed Paradox. He did not even have enough time to answer the spirit's question. A bit of that loner personality was bleeding out it seems...and the dark mage is most likely going to be paying for that.
Hans didn't make much of a reaction as he witnessed Lydia effortlessly dodge his golems, and followed up by attacking them! One attack...it only took one attack to greatly damage both golems! They were still alive, but barely hanging in there as they floated upwards, pieces of themselves crumbling off in the process. What did get a reaction out of Hans was the next two spears being thrown Verena and Hania's ways.
"Wha-" They came into the range of his ki sensory...but the dark mage could feel nothing. The only other indication he got from the spears coming the team's way, is the wind that was built up from them flying by, but still, he was barely able to react, only able to turn to see his teammates! Verena appeared to have gotten struck by one of them, but the summoner managed to barely protect Hania, not going for herself!
"Those spears..." They just tore through Verena's defenses like they were nothing. Hans' calm demeanor faltered, but only a little. He couldn't lose his cool over something like this, especially if he's going to have to go up against daemons who are no doubt going to be just as strong if not stronger than the Ravencrest woman. With what just happened, the dark mage called back his Sinister Shield spell, and The Hunt, not wanting to pointlessly waste more of his mana.
Lydia was now closing in on Hans, and the moment she passed into the radius of his ki sensory, the dark mage was able to get a better feel of her ki, and speed, which took him a little by surprise. Currently, he was faster, but the fact that Lydia was this fast right now without the use of a spell was interesting. The man needed to think fast. He saw what those spears did to his golems, and some of his defense spells, so the dark mage couldn't just block this. Hans also sensed something coming from behind him...one of Verena's golems. Not, letting this opportunity go to waste, Hans thought of something and used his speed to jump five meters to the right and out of the way, furthering himself from Lydia as she attempted to hit him with that spear! But as he did this, the dark mage faced one of his palms in the direction of the light mage, and using the secondary effect of his Speed Bind, Hans fired a chain of darkness, aiming for one of Lydia's legs as Verena summoned more golems against the light mage.
Through the use of their grimoire, the user forms a suit of draconic armor made of darkness around themselves and/or others for defensive purposes, but that is not its only use. The armor also gives off a dark aura that increases the wearer's strength to Grand levels, allowing them to deal devastating Grand based damage to their foes and structures. When more than one armor is summoned, its Strength buff will decrease by one rank. (User can summon an additional piece of armor per 75 Control they have.)

(When more than one version of this spell is summoned, the speed buff will decrease by one rank while if the user summons additional restraints for more targets, it will also decrease by one rank unless the user has the required 75 Control.)

Unlike most other golems its rank, these sword golems aren't the largest, only coming up to 2 meters in height, but that does not make them any less dangerous. [attr="class","haniaimage"]❝I hear a song of woe shadowing our past in sorrow.❞
[attr="class","haniascroll"]Hania's mind was still acting sluggish as the medicine worked its way through his body, he knew he should have been laying down and letting his body rest but he had forced his body to move. He hated being a disappointment, he hated being weak and he would be damned if he wasn't going to pull his own weight to fight with the two he was to be teamed with under his sister. He knew the pair were worried for his health but if he couldn't do anything then why the hell was he here? He had never been one for moral support unless it came with a backhand at the same time. "I know its hard for you already miss Reinsberg, but, I don't know how to explain it... I don't believe like many mages about golems being empty puppets. A mage gives part of themselves upon each and every time one is formed." Amostia said still being the voice of the ice mage.
"They are extensions of that mage and were not aware, the mage is fully aware of what happens to them. I know it makes little sense given the way my works normally on logic but it has strangely always been the way I've thought of golems even though I have no idea why." the bird continued. The shields had gone up but he knew that they wouldn't save any of them from what was about to happen, it was true that Hans was a competent defence mage but he still wasn't nearly as strong as his sister. Surely, the other two knew this as well, he hated the fact his body was still not allowing him to speak and was still acting like it had when he woke from that nine-day coma within Satori's home.
He watched as the pair started to call golems, he knew a single area of effect spell would have destroyed them all at the same time but his sister wanted to make a point it would seem by calling six glass spears and aiming to attack. One for each golem and one for each of the trio. Normally his mind would be working faster and he would have thought of a way to at least try and take as little damage as possible but right now he was in no condition to deal with either, in honesty, he would have rather have been drinking alcohol at least he didn't feel this bad. He was getting ready to brace for the impact of one of the spears when Verena did something he hadn't expected and would never expect anyone to do for him. She had put his safety above her own.
He had heard the glass spear hit the wall in front of him but it didn't break, he looked to Verena confused but bowed his head in thanks. His hand moved out with the palm facing towards the sky, his hand closed only to open once more a few seconds later to show what appeared to be a faint icy drift falling off it, above his hand, now hovered a rune having what could be mistaken as a snowdrift coming off it. It was just very small and fine ice shards, not snow. The rune looked to be around one inch tall and half an inch wide he moved his hand towards Verena the rune now moving around her body almost like a protective shield. It wasn't but it would increase her speed and heal her while it was active, she had protected her and now he'd return the favour the best he could.
He pointed to the pin that Lydia had on her tank top "That was a gift from Alyssa Lilygate for when Lydia went to Kikka, it has the spectra element within it. Any attack will be thrown back slightly weaker while strengthening her." Hania said his voice barely above a whisper, he must look and sound so pathetic at the moment but he had Asmostia repeat his words just in case Hans and Verena hadn't heard his own which was most likely. He made a note he would have to look into gaining more healing spells as right now with the control he had he could only heal one of them, he made his way over to Verena as quickly as he could and poked her forehead leaning in to whisper into her ear as to make sure she heard his words and they didn't come through a third party.
"Thank you for being my shield but, I never expect anyone to put themselves in harm's way for me." his voice was frail, soft and unlike normal showed weakness. His breath though faint would fall warmly onto her ears. "Doing what you did has made you a target, I hope you are prepared for what is to come next." he finished trying to think of what was to do next. "Are you good with polearm weapons Hans?" he would ask the darkness mage his eyes going to the bright glowing charm of his pendant which he wished would stop already. He understood why it glowed the way it did because if it didn't there would be no way for anyone to know how he was as he personally wouldn't tell them and he'd land his ass into a coma for who knew how long, but then, that happened often anyway.
He pulled away from her and poked her forehead "You're smarter than that, don't ever make yourself a target for me. I'll need to find a way to come and save you after and right now I can barely think straight let alone be a knight in shining armour." he said with a light chuckle as moved back slowly trying to anticipate his sister's movements as well as the summoner and defence mage, the problem was he didn't know enough about the other two or their fighting style to be able to make a semi-decent plan when he was full capacity, this was going to be a long day. "Lyd, I'm calling the backup clause." The spirit said as he looked to the pair "This allows me to have one of what is now the provinces generals to fight alongside me or in this case us when I fight Lydia. Where do you think we're lacking and I'll request the right person join us." he said to the others, he knew that they'd only be given a few minutes to decide before Lydia would make them choose so they needed to decide quickly.
