Noah
He started rushing down the street, as the poster clearly said that competition would start in less than half an hour. He was passing various shops, bumping into a lot of people and ignoring their mean comments about him not paying attention. At least ten minutes passed when Noah was sitting on a bench exhausted and looking a little desperate. Given history of poor navigational skills, Noah could be well aware by now, that in terms of orientating himself in cities – he is just dumb. Drowning in a self-pity party, he noticed a group of weirdly dressed men that were laughing and speaking in some weird dialect he couldn’t quite comprehend. Oh! That’s pirates, or sailors or something like that. He thought to himself, as he saw that one man´s hand was actually replaced by a rusted hook. “That’s such a cliché.” He smiled and stood up as he decided to follow them. It was obvious they would lead him to the port where competition will happen. Or at least that’s what he thought, there was a lot of room for errors in this plan.
It worked, the group of men led him to the port. The amount of people was simply overwhelming, as he didn’t realize how much of a thing this fishing competition was. People were excited, singing, shouting. Took him a little while, but then Noah saw a big poster “SIGN UP HERE” poster and he proceeded. Given the fact that he knew nothing about fishing or sailing, he wasn’t exactly expecting to do good or even win the competition, but he still felt pretty confident; in his swimming skills if everything went south at least. Once he approached young lady sitting behind a table he smiled and started. “Hello, my name is Noah and I would love to join the fishing competition.” Noah was speaking politely and was trying to achieve the impression that he knows what he is doing. Lady, quite uninterested honestly just looked at him for a brief moment and continued. “Sure, which crew are you participating with?” That was the moment young mage panicked for a little. Crew? I don’t even have that. Does that mean I went all this way for nothing? Jesus. He started gazing all around, trying to find any sign of a crew he could mention, but fast reaction wasn’t exactly his forte. “He will come with us.” Noah got scared as a hand landed on his shoulder and started gripping him. He quickly turned around as he saw a middle aged woman wish rather messy red hair smiling. Her green eye was staring right into Noah eyes and she was indeed scary, and also smelly but given the fact that she apparently spent all her time on the sea, Noah felt like that was somehow expected. “Sure, whatever.” The woman sitting behind the table said, completely uninterested and scribbled something on a paper.
Once formalities were all set up, the mysterious woman let go off Noah´s shoulder and started walking towards the ships, she gently gestured to follow her. Noah did that without hesitation. “As you probably already know, my name is Verona de la Rouge.” She said as she was getting closer to their ship, which was quite impressive, frankly. No, no I really don’t. Noah thought for himself, but proceeded to just play along. “Yes, and allow me to say it is such an honor to do this competition with you and your crew, miss Verona.” Speaking as politely as he possibly could, Noah was sure this was going to go well. “Stop speaking as a snowflake you little brat.” She said quite harshly but with a genuine humor in her voice. Noah froze for a second and didn’t manage to find a right answer to that. “Look, this competition is incredibly important. We need to catch the biggest fish out of all these losers around us.” She said as she pointed to all the other ships that were in the dock. “The good thing is that the only real competition for us is The Revenge of King Anton, led by that looser Smack Caballero. I don’t expect no wonders from you, little boy, but make sure to do everything I say to.” Noah just silently nodded as he was quite shocked from all the things going on.
Once they got aboard the Red Solaria, Verona managed to briefly introduce Noah to the rest of his crewmates and then disappeared in the lower levels of the ship. As Noah was obviously quite overwhelmed and had no idea what to do, he just stood there and stared to the sea. Big air horns suddenly occupied the sound landscape of Rague and that meant the start of competition was here. Noah got instantly smashed to nearest wall as the ship started insanely fast and went ahead onto the see. “Listen yall pieces of sh*t. We are going straight to the location we talked about, if you see any sign of other ship make sure to get rid of them.” Verona´s voice was coming from somewhere, but as the whole ship got covered in weird mist, Noah couldn’t tell where it was coming from. He got a little concerned about the fact that she directly told them to destroy any other ship they would see and started questioning the whole idea of doing this. “Here hold this.” Some man just threw Noah some rope, which interrupted him from projecting all his mistakes he apparently made by going into this competition. He just nodded and made sure the rope going to the see was secured. Having no idea what this rope was, he just continued holding it and trying to see anything through the mist that was fully covering his visibility field. “O-ow” Noah said as he suddenly felt heavy pull from the rope towards the sea. He managed to lock himself to the barrier that prevented him from falling to the sea and started fighting this insane force that was pulling him down.
It was really messy, as Noah who didn’t have much physical strength was doing his best to not fall down, while rest of his crewmates didn’t even notice his struggle bus. He tried to look for the origin of this terrible force down in the sea, but couldn’t see anything. “Oh god, is that a whale?” He said really disturbed as he saw some big blob in the sea, that was apparently caught in his rope which was apparently a net. The notion of whale got his crewmates interested and they gathered around him and looked overboard. “Help him, quick!” Another man shouted as suddenly six men gathered around him and helped him pull the weird creature out of water. The weight was still too heavy, but the creature got up on the water level and Noah could finally see it, it was just a regular oversized fish. “Oh I can probably do this.” He said as he pointed his hand towards the desperate fish who was just trying to get out of the net. Using his gravity magic, Noah made sure the force fish was applying was lower and therefore the rest of the men managed to pull her up while struggling just a little. Fish was enormous, way bigger than Noah would even imagine. Everyone around was cheering; Noah was just a little confused as he had really no idea what was going on. It was a little surprising to him, that they were apparently cheering towards him. “Good job kiddo, this will grant us a win.” Suddenly Verona appeared out of nowhere behind him and patted him on the back. She then proceeded to put a sword through the fish, ending its life. That got Noah quite shocked as he expected for them to keep the fish alive and thought it would be released back to the see once after the competition ended. This was getting just a little bit too much traumatic for him already.
While hunting for fishes continued, nothing particularly interesting happened, as it looked like everyone was sure that “Noah´s catch” would win the competition. Once they arrived back to the port, it was apparent from all the fishes presented that the victory was theirs. Noah was just looking on the port and observing Verona as she was bathing in the cheers from the crowd. Her arch-enemy, or at least it looked like that for Noah was drowning in sorrow, or was just angry, Noah couldn’t tell as he was still aboard the Red Celestia and was spectating all the events from afar. Verona then, after claiming the price went back to the ship and came to Noah. “Good job, you won the competition for us. This is for you.” She proceeded to give him a small back of yul, which Noah humbly accepted and then smiled. “It was fun, maybe let´s not instantly kill the fish the next time.” He said, half joking while staring into Verona’s green eye. “If you are interested I have more jobs for a young skilled mage like you in the future. Just come and see me here in the port.” She said and Noah nodded, with a little smile as he finally exited the ship and went back to the streets of Rague.
