Verena liked to think she, on some level, understood Griswold. At his core, he was a man who cared about others. So when he left the Crimson Lions, she understood why. When he became a Royal Knight, she understood why. And when he took part in the Magic Knight exams to become a Black Bull, she understood why. They weren't exactly friends, but she held a high respect for the Black Bull all the same. She hoped the feeling wasn't exclusive.[break][break]
It must not have been a one-sided respect, however, given his acceptance to teach her his element. While she already had fire, solar magic could potentially be far more useful. Unlike fire magic, solar magic was capable of much more than simply burning things. Her family was one of scholars, and she knew full well the capabilities that that solar magic would allow to her.[break][break]
The two had agreed to meet in the Fringe, out of Clover limits for the purpose of this training, closer to the Diamond-Clover border. It would allow Griswold to show off his magic and not worry about destroying anything of note. Wasteland surrounded the two as far as the eye could see. Various rock formations could be seen in the distance in this empty expanse of land.[break][break]
They had traveled together. What was most surprising, however, was the fact that Verena had walked the entire time without using a golem to transport her. If the elf had asked where her golems were, the brunette responded honestly. She didn't need to rely on them as extensively as before. However, if he asked why that was...[break][break]
"I'm dying. A curse was put on me that shortened my lifespan. I was told I'd die at twenty-five. Lydia managed to create a potion that is capable of delaying the effects, allowing me to live a somewhat normal life. But right now, it's still beyond anyone..." she explained on the way.[break][break]
"Even still, I'm not limited. I can run like most people now. I can carry like most people now. I don't need golems to help me brush my hair. I don't need golems to help me walk. I don't tire as easily now. For the first time in seven years, I can truly be independent. I can at least pretend everything is fine..."[break][break]
A pause.[break][break]
"For now, that's more than enough for me," she said, smiling.[break][break]
Eventually, the two arrived at the destination. Verena was wearing the Golden Dawn mantle of course. The Royal Knights didn't have a proper uniform, so she felt the least she could do was wear the mantle over her jumpsuit and black dress. The ring that was a gift from her captain's adopted brother was present upon her right index finger as well, in addition to the mark she had been "designated" with back during the Kikka Reclamation Effort.[break][break]
Verena glanced over to Griswold. He was supposed to be doing ki training as well; the two were going to kill two birds with one stone this way. However, Verena truthfully had no idea how the man planned on doing it this way. She could create a number of targets for him, but how exactly did he plan on using ki in this manner?[break][break]
They were deep enough into the Fringe now that neither needed to worry about harming anything. For now, there was only one question that was on her mind once she stopped.[break][break]
"Are you ready to begin?" she asked, looking over to Griswold who had put himself a fair distance away.[break][break]
Come to think of it, Verena felt, this setup wasn't too dissimilar from when they were participating in the Exams and competed against another. It was because of him that so many had been exposed to her curse as well. Ordinarily, she would have held a grudge against him, but ... the Magic Knight Exams' dungeon had taught her something important. She encouraged others to talk to her about their problems and wished to help them. But not once had she ever spoken up about the problem plaguing her for the last seven years, wishing to not make it others' problem.
Rank & Element: Junior Class & Type: Accessory Magic Specializations: N/A Appearance & Lore: The Magic Knight Mantle is an Item in which Magic Knights wear to show the Squad that are in. Each Squad has a different color Mantle along with their own squad logo as well. When these items were built they were made out of a special material that allows them to be unbreakable from any sort of attack, but does not block the wearer from any attacks. Magic Knights of the Clover Kingdom has worn these Mantles for hundreds of years. Abilities:
A fairly long time ago, during one of the least happy experiences of his life, he had more or less made a loose promise to Verena that he would show her the inner workings of the magical element that was Solar. When some time later, they went and took on another assignment to venture into an altogether different dungeon that was fairly similar in the sense that it carried quite a bit of emotional weight throughout, he had made a similar promise. When the royal knight exams came up, that had more or less been swiped under the rug and forgotten about due to the hectic lifestyle he had been living, which only amplified itself even further by the magic knight exams which followed right after. And with what was perhaps the highest ranked and dangerous mission in his life coming up, the incursion against Aamon, there was a chance that it would all lead to one final blaze of glory in which he’d end up burning out for the sake of the country.
Strangely however, he felt like he was currently in something many might refer to as the “eye of the storm”, a moment of peace and quiet calm stuck in between two hectic periods. With the social gathering of his new squad to make him feel somewhat at home, people starting to look up to him within the magic knight community and becoming more well known throughout the country as a whole for his deeds, Griswold was more or less enjoying his time off so he could just revel in the good things that were coming his way. And while he knew full well that this things were usually short lived, he very much wished to make the most out of it while it lasted, as there was a chance he wouldn’t get to enjoy for long. Even though his incursion team was in possession of one magic knight captain, one of the three great spirits, a vice captain and a soon to be vice captain, part of him felt like they were going in without ample preparation, which was perhaps the only thing that truly bothered him at present.
But with all of those things being what they were, if there was ever a time to make good on his promise, it was likely going to be now.
As per his request, the two had met out in the fringe, in a rocky area of a wasteland in which most of the actual life was either up in the air or dwelling underground. As one of his biggest issues with outdoor training sessions or magic knight missions outside of towns and cities was the general disregard for natural life, he imagined that this was the kind of place where he could let loose a bit. At least enough to show Verena what his magic was about. Aside from some small talk, the way leading up to the fringe had been more or less a quiet one as Griswold just enjoyed the scenery, at least up until the time where they wandered into the wasteland that had been created during the war between the diamond and the clover kingdoms. While he had heard stories, it was a period of time of which he knew surprisingly little, though that was to be expected given how little he usually cared for the quarrel between humans over monetary reasons.
And truth be told, as they traveled, he had noticed that Verena had been doing it on her own, without using a golem to aid her, which was in and of itself rather rare. Because for as long as he had known her, the only time she had actually seriously moved was during their royal knight exam, which was by itself rather briefly too. Not being the kind of person who worried himself over others, he imagined she was feeling better, good enough to do these kinds of things without really experiencing any issues. So when he finally did ask, he got to hear the story that explained some of what he had seen during their examination battle, which had struck him as odd at the time. Still, to think that she had been cursed to such an extent was not something he was aware of, as he had always believed curses could only harm to such an extent, and were capable of being dispelled… decursed, whatever the word for it was.
To think that her lifespan had been limited to only twenty-five was strange, for if he had been cursed with it, it meant he’d only get to live for another three years before he’d croak. Something like that really put things into perspective, as he had always been working towards things primarily for the sake of others, rarely thinking about what it was that he truly wanted. Coincidentally, what he wanted was more or less for the forsaken region to thrive and to make it so at least one of the magic squads within that same region would be pushed as hard as it could be, to be the best that it could be. He never really gave any thought to settling down, getting a dog even the thought of children, though that worked out just fine for him. After all, he wasn’t the type for it, nor was he exactly a people-person. He found the most joy when working to secure the safety of those he considered to be his people, his fellow peasants and commoners, and that wasn’t likely to change any time soon.
“I see. That’s quite a lot to digest, though I imagine the magic knights will be working hard on that if Lydia of all people is the one coming up with potions and solutions. Besides, in a way, taking that potion makes you just like the rest of us, as no one knows exactly when or where it is that they’ll eventually keel over and die. So I guess that at least is something to feel good… or at least better about.”
Not really sure what to say in response to something like that, mostly because he had never exactly been told about somebody dying beforehand, getting to prepare for that eventuality had never been a part of his life. After all, the family and friends he once had back in the enclave were all full of life and in good health, until one day the entire settlement and everyone in it just disappeared, leaving only a hole in the ground where it had once been. That kind of thing did not give you any time to process the idea of someone passing away as it came so suddenly, and on such a large scale. So in that respect, this too was a new experience for him.
“If you’re ready to begin too, I suggest getting out some golems of various shapes and sizes, and we’ll go from there. And a fair word of warning, they won’t be around to promote the scenery, as I’ll be needing some of them to just act as target practice and some I’ll need to spar against. You’ll see soon enough why that is.”

[attr="class","verenaver2scroll"]
Verena nodded her head. In a way, she supposed that might have been a good thing. It let people push it from their minds. However, her curse did not let her do that. Every time she took a bath, she was reminded. Every time she saw her reflection when changing, she was reminded. Every time she remembered her family, she was reminded. Every time someone touched her, brushed up against her, hugged her… Verena Reinsberg remembered she was going to die. That thought terrified her.[break][break]
At least, if she died against Asmodeus, it would be something she had some control over. She could prepare and train and plan accordingly. It wouldn't be this stupid curse that had taken away so much from her. It wouldn't be her delusional fathers doing. It would be a death that she could hold her head up high against and say, "Well, I tried my best, but this is as far as I go."[break][break]
Still, she could tell Griswold wasn't quite sure how to respond. Even though he had said a lot, it was, as he noted, still a lot to digest. He was likely just rummaging through his mind and saying what he could, as though trying to console her. But the reality was a fairly simple one. She was going to die, and she was running out of time. She still very much was cursed. If she pushed herself too hard, she noticed the effects of the potion began to fade. She needed to pace herself accordingly.[break][break]
" Ah… right. I told you this because both because of the potion, and because you were technically the first person to have seen the markings. But aside from those who already know, I request you don't tell anyone. I had hoped I'd find a cure on my own at this point, but I'm still not quite there. I… don't really like others knowing that about me. They change a little bit. They pity me. I dislike that…" she said, her expression falling to meet the ground as she finished.[break][break]
Naturally, the topic of her curse was a fairly uncomfortable one. Getting into the specifics even more so. It made her relive events that even now traumatized her, and she wasn't sure if she would truly ever overcome that trauma, especially when she lived with it. It wasn't visible anymore, but she knew it was still there.[break][break]
Griswold pointed out that she still needed to bring out her golems. Some would serve as target practice, and some to actually spar against. That was fair enough. She still needed to figure out how she could beat Griswold, too. His control of a battlefield against multiple enemies was not to be underestimated. Though she also knew that he couldn't rely heavily on that method against Amon.[break][break]
To Verena, this was simply meant to "push" Griswold rather than her fighting seriously. She knew full well that the mage was capable of handling all of these golems all at once. Using a wide array of golems wasn't going to change that. If she truly wanted to win, she'd need to go all out. But the brunette had no desire to "go all out" when her objective was a fairly simple one.[break][break]
She wanted to see Griswold's Solar magic. Assess its properties in the midst of combat, and attempt to call upon the mana in real-time. Real-time combat learning; something she wasn't incapable of doing. But against an equal or more superior mage, it wasn't going to be an easy endeavor on her part.[break][break]
The three golems were all familiar -- they were here starting three against Griswold. However, she had made an additional copy of each golem she made, making for a total of six. It was a massive use of mana, and yet Verena wasn't the least bit tired. It was clear that her mana had significantly increased to an astonishing level but Griswold's capable sensory abilities would have already have tipped him off to that.[break][break]
"Terra will make for excellent target practice -- for me, at least. He's the most durable out of the golems summoned, so he should remain sturdy. The other four should make for excellent sparring partners. Though, if you'd rather me supply you with a vast quantity of rubble, I can do that just as well," she expressed, not even bothering to mince words.[break][break]
She eyed the dark-haired man. The change in appearance was something she hadn't commented on quite yet, but she supposed he had his reasons. A look that radical was for a reason. She supposed with the Black Bulls, it was more fitting that he don a darker look, but she doubted that aesthetics were the reason for the change.[break][break]
"Sonia, spread out. Encircle him. Keep away sixty meters from him, however. Bestimmung, engage him right out. If you make it in within twenty meters of him, Shoot. Prioritize defense above all else, however, and avoid his magic if possible." she commanded. There was a solid eighty meters between the two mages now. Verena wasn't going to bother flying, she wanted to make sure she had a good eye for what was going on.[break][break]
"Terra, forward twenty meters," she commanded.[break][break]
For now, she wanted to see how Griswold would respond as her golems all moved into place. Not just that, even if she was here just to learn, it was still a spar. She couldn't deny that part of her wanted to win, ugly as that might have been given the others kindness and willingness to actually teach her his magic despite how much time had passed since he had first offered her.[break][break]
Element: Earth[break]Rank: Senior[break]Size: Up to 12 meters[break]Mana Cost: 30 | 15[break]Type of Golem: Guardian[break]Applicable Perks: Puppet Master, Reinforced Golems, Ranged Golems, Fierce Golems[break]Description: Upon saying the spell's name, a three piece golem giant of an earth golem appears.Terra takes the form of a colossal entity made of solid earth and stone. However, it's broken up into three parts--the main body and two massive floating arms. The arms each make up the bulk of its mass and are measured at [12m] in height. The main body is roughly [8m] in its own height and lacks legs; thus, it is in a constant state of floating. This is the most advanced type of golem Verena has made thus far, and it is without question her most durable. A yellow heart-shape can be seen in the center of its chest.[break][break]There are several advantages to this design for Verena. The first major advantage lies in it the fact the body operates as something akin to a control terminal... not that there exists something in Clover Kingdom akin to that. The arms exist more as weapons; they can still be destroyed, of course, and if they are destroyed this golem offers no functionality beyond serving as a wall for the caster. It is incapable of doing anything other than floating at [12m/s], even if used as transportation for up to [3] people.[break][break]Like many of Verena's golems, this golem is capable of raw physical strength that is capable of sending opponents back considerable distance; for every 10 [POW] that this golem possesses, it is capable of sending knocking a target back by up an additional [5m] with a base value of [8m].[break][break]However, this golem is the first of hers that is capable of ranged attacks by using up more mana -- specifically, by paying half of the cost of the spell -- a skill she was sorely lacking in before. These giant fists that are floating alongside the golem are its primary and only weapons. At command, these fists can be launched at [20m/s] reaching a distance of up to [40m]. In addition, the general damage output of these falls accordingly, only dealing [Intermediate] damage with strong blunt force. However, she can only launch one fist at a time. After which, if it makes contact with anything, including the target itself, defensive constructs, golems, or even part of the landscape itself, it returns back to the main body at similar speeds to when it was launched.[break][break]However, if these fists are used within the [12m] of the main body--their maximum range of attack, it is capable of unleashing its full [Senior] damage. These fists are very human-like--they can grab things, pull, et cetera. Anything a human hand is capable of, so are these.[break]
Element: Sound[break]Rank: Senior[break]Size: Up to 3m[break]Mana Cost: 30 | 15[break]Type of Golem: Scout[break]Applicable Perks: Puppet Master, Reinforced Golems, Ranged Golems, Fierce Golems[break]Description: Upon saying the spells name, a musical skeleton appears. Verena's newest sound golem is, for all intents and purposes, the culmination of what she has been trying to achieve. With excellent sensory skills that far outperform any of her current golems and their incredible speed, Sonia golems represent her first new type of golem: Scout golems.[break][break]Sonia golems take the form of a human skeleton; however there are many differences in the anatomy--rather, instead of bone, various types of metals make up its bones, but all ultimately make up a variety of instruments. The skull is covered in a hard material that offers enhanced protection, but brass encompasses most of it, and piano keys make up its teeth. Inside its mouth is a large sound amplifier that is connected to a large brass pipe that functions as a spine.[break][break]The golems 'ribs' are made up of a variety of pipes and Sonia's shoulders have cymbals protruding them ever so slightly like shoulder spaulders. The sternum looks like a series of clarinets melded together against the pipes, though the topmost pipes connect into these clarinets. Sonia's arms are made up of batons, and its hands are made up of smaller cymbals. Attached to these cymbals are instruments are known as dords.[break][break]Where a stomach would be exists a large drum protected by a series of steel pipes connected. Similar to Sonia's arms, the legs are made up musical batons, with knees that look like very small cymbals as well. Furthermore, it possesses feet that look cymbals and dord-like toes again.[break][break]These golems are incapable of being rid upon, but for every 50 [CON], Verena is capable of summoning an additional Sonia. In addition, these golems are capable of unleashing a sound wave that can reach up to [140m] from Verena's current position relative to their own. In other words, if they are [70m] from Verena, this sound wave is only capable of reaching up to seventy meters from their own position. This sound does not hurt Verena. However, anyone within [20m] will suffer [Intermediate] damage due to the area-of-effect nature of this spell, and these sounds travel at [20m/s].[break][break]Doing so grants the caster awareness of mana signatures nearby. However, this does not allow them to differentiate friend from foe. It does, however, allow them to figure out humans from animals, mana beasts, and other non-human entities (elven and dwarven characters still count as human). This 'scream' implants images in the user's head in a manner similar to echolocation, shaping outlines of the landscape and sending them back to the user. This is solely limited to entities that are not hiding their mana in some way. What the caster does with that information is entirely up to them.[break][break]Due to this ability, these golems are the ideal scouts. With superior range, sensory prowess and speed, information gathering is a breeze when it comes to dealing with her surroundings.[break]
Element: Fire[break]Rank: Senior[break]Size: Up to 9m[break]Mana Cost: 30 | 15[break]Type of Golem: Balanced[break]Applicable Perks: Puppet Master, Reinforced Golems, Ranged Golem, Fierce Golems[break]Description: Upon saying the spells name, a fiery warrior appears. Bestimmung's source of inspiration comes from two different people. Valo Stark, and of course, the man who taught her fire magic -- Ardere Kasai. With the Royal Knight Exams upcoming, she sincerely felt the need to create something amazing despite struggling beforehand with a source of inspiration. And so she got to work with its creation.[break][break]The first matter of business that Verena felt was prudent in its creation was that this golem needed to be able to contain the fire, rather than be in a constant state of the inferno. To that end, Bestimmung resembles a tall, humanoid figure made up of coal. Make no mistake though, this golem can and will emit enough heat to set itself ablaze when engaging in combat scenarios. In fact, when fighting does happen, it creates a flaming cape and waist cloth born of the inferno that made it, and its body lights up in accordance to the temperature.[break][break]This coal seems to serve as an armor -- a testament to Verena's durable golems [Reinforced Golems]. This "armor" is adorned as a headpiece across its head, with finely shaped coal lodging out around the neck and shoulders to give it an intimidating look. A chest piece is adorned as well, with charcoal-like markings on it to look the part of flame -- this is, of course, not charcoal, but rather it was simply burned into this piece, as are the ornate pieces going down the sternum and hip around the hips and shoulders. Something resembling a belt is adorned across Bestimmung's waist as are more pieces of charcoal armor -- a testament again to Verena's desire to make durable golems.[break][break]What makes this golem unique is that there were two sources of inspiration for it. Taking in the best of what she learned from both Valo Starrk and Ardere Kasai. As with most golems, this golem is proficient in short-range attacks. When engaging in short-range battle, this golem emits a blue hue and that does seem to be its constant state. It uses its powerful punches and kicks to deal with enemies, dealing [Senior] damage and each hit leaves burns befitting of such. It is capable of striking with enough force to knock back whomever it hits with its melee attacks per knockback rules. This golem prefers to grab onto its opponents and use its whole body to emit heat capable of damage if it manages to grab someone. This blue flame was inspired by Valo Starrk.[break][break]This golem is capable of shooting out fire as well from the palm of its hands. It doesn't take much for it to achieve this, and as such as soon as the command "Shoot" is given, its hand glows with a vibrant red and yellow color before a blast of fire is shot out up to [20m], covering everything directly in front of the golem in that range in heat capable of dealing [Intermediate] damage, and burns of equal intensity. This is not a full circle AOE, but instead only covers everything within that designated AOE in a cone-like fashion, thus not endangering allies who are directly next to or behind Bestimmung. Most importantly to Verena, as these fires are only temporary and cannot be sustained, they are incapable of causing any large-scale fires, burning out quickly after their initial attack.[break][break]Like most golems, additional ones be made via ammo rules, capping out at a total of three additional ones. However, these golems are ill-suited to being used as transportation and as such are not used as such. In addition, this golem is incapable of dealing more than [Senior] damage to a single target.
Abilities:
With the creation of the golems, it seemed that things had kicked off in a way that was fairly similar to the fight they had been in during the royal knight exams. The main differences between this and that were simple however. He was here to teach whatever he could with regards to solar magic, which was by itself a rather difficult situation as it more or less had come natural to him the moment he first picked up his grimoire, the other reason being that he couldn’t care less if he won or lost the actual spar. In a way, they both had but one thing riding on this, which was their own training working out and paying off, as both of them had to eventually face off against a different archdemon. So instead of focusing on winning something as trivial as a silly little spar, he would just use it for what it was in hopes of refining his own senses and maybe providing Verena with another golem.
“Okay so, Solar magic is about a lot more than just the sun, which is a common misconception among a lot of other mages. One such example is this spell, which uses lunar rock to fuel a barrage of sharp shrapnel. Observe.”
With a quick flick of the wrist, Griswold aimed while charging up a small amount of solar mana. Closing his eyes as he did so, he used his Ki to get a better read of the terrain, creating mental images in his head based on those he could actually feel within his range. As it was still relatively weak in comparison to some of his other features, tracking a target that was not moving all that fast at all was a good thing for him. So once he could actually locate his target with his mind’s eye, he fired his spell right at the large golem. Where he originally could only fire about one or two of them, he felt that he had managed to refine his control to the point where he could now shoot about seven of them, crashing them into the golem and shattering on impact. Because for as much as it was worth, it was not the kind of aspect he had been working on a whole lot, making this the strongest spell he could currently cast that was not related to stars.
Hearing how Verena had ordered her golems, he knew that there were two of the more durable golems, two of the same faster golems that had been encircling him as they had during the royal exam, leaving the fire golem that had attempted to assault him too. Hearing how the goal was for them to focus on defense but attack once they got within a twenty meter radius, that was something he could work with. As he had gotten a good bit faster since the last time they had met, which had turned the whole situation into somewhat of a cat and mouse game where he had to just keep pressing on in hopes of cornering her and closing in that way, harming her directly was not something he had to worry about today. Channeling his mana in preparation of another spell that would make it hard for the fire golems to outright attack and prioritize keeping themselves safe first, he would again explain what he was going to be doing first. This was a moment of education after all.
“Then there is the “star” based portion of this magic, which admittedly can take on a variety of different shapes and sizes, as well as manifesting themselves in different ways. For instance, this is a spell that fires several projectiles at designated targets, following them around until they leave their radius or hit their targets. For example’s sake, I’ll fire these at your fire golems.”
No sooner nor later than having said those words, he released the mana he had been building in the form of two small and fast moving suns, he would have them chasing after the fire golems. While this too would take a bit of focus, him having to keep his focus on everything going on around him and keeping himself in a state where he might respond to them as soon as something presented itself meant that he had to reduce his speed of movement so as to not trip over his own feet. Trying to expand his focus to the point where he could also lock in on the fast moving golems that had the ability of flight, he was not about to let one of them get the drop on them like they had done during the exams. So as he tried to prepare himself for something he knew might very well happen a second time, pushing the boundaries of his focus proved troublesome when trying to keep so many different irons in the fire.
In that sense, he could only imagine how difficult it must be for someone like Verena to be controlling so many different kinds of golems at the same time, which just seemed immensely chaotic to him. That said, Verena was not the kind of person one would find on the frontlines, smacking things with sharp sticks while controlling said golems. In a way, that made him feel somewhat better about himself, as he had to constantly worry about getting hit by his adversaries, how to utilize his mana in terms of offense and defense, but also in the sense of increasing his speed or strength. Adding golems into that kind of setting was not something he himself was ever going to be capable of, especially not as he was now. Maybe once he managed to increase his own sensory means, be it through Ki or otherwise, to the point where he could keep track of his surroundings more accurately, that was when he might attempt to get into golemancy.
But with the rate at which things were developing now, that seemed like it was going to be a very long ways away for him. Besides, given the direction of his personal development, he wondered if golems were even the way to go to begin with.

Name of Spell: Variable Star: Parallax Elemental Type: Solar Rank & Spell Type: Senior | Attack Creation & Sensory Range & Speed: 100 meters (40 m AoE) | 50 m/s Mana Cost: 30 mp | 15 mp sustain Stats Effected: +9 Power, Blind Applicable Perks: Overpowered, Quick Shot, Skilled Sniper & Battle Knight (& Area of Triumph) Description: A spell that releases a fast moving ball of solar mana at a target determined upon the moment of creation. Utilizing "homing" rules in order to chase down the target until the projectile is destroyed or the caster runs out of mana, it also uses "ammo" rules to increase the amount of projectiles fired by 1 for every 75 Control the caster has. Initialized by first making himself glow before firing them, in addition, these projectiles flare up from time to time, allowing them to blind those looking at it for one whole post. These "stars" can flare up to blind someone once every two posts in which they're active, making them rather tricky to deal with. Upon hitting a target, they explode to cover a certain radius, knocking targets back 8 meters + 5 meters for every 10 Power the caster possesses. During the day, the spell takes on an orange hue, taking on a silver blue hue after dark.

While she was creating her formations, Griswold was taking time to explain the intracies of his magic, something that surprised her. Ardere had done something similar, but Ardere was at the apex of his skill. It wasn't that long ago when she had just met Griswold. While he did in fact possesss a three leaf grimoire, an impressive ranking for sure, it didn't seem an accurate assessment of his overall ability. What guided Griswold wasn't prodigial skill, but rather sharp instinct, and a work ethic that put even her own to shame, both traits so powerfully instilled into him that it rivaled if not surpassed those who might have been considered prodigies.[break][break]
Verena was familiar with that nuance of Solar magic, however. The name was misleading; it was more accurate to say it was "Cosmic"; at least, in the sense that it allowed one to harness the entirety of deep space related abilities. From miniature suns to the cold emptiness that was the universe -- temperatures on completely different ends of the spectrum of absolutely incalcuable levels. Though of course, it was physically impossible to truly replicate those exact extremes, they could at least be simulated to scale.[break][break]
Griswold didn't just give a verbal explanation, however. After all, the two were sparring. The Elven born launched the rock right at both Terra, which she had near her, the standard formation in which she used her golems. Despite the difference between the two spells, the impact upon Terra being hit shook the golem, almost annihilating it right then and there. Verena took a moment to take a quick look at the damage by having that Terra turn to face her.[break][break]
The impact was intense, great enough to almost pierce right through. While Terra was an incredibly dense golem, its chest looked as though it possessed a crater from the rock that had smashed right into it. Verena had the golem lower so that she could try to place a hand over the damaged crator. While she didn't directly touch it, she was able to get a "feel" of the residual mana upon impact, closing her eyes momentarily to better concentrate on this.[break][break]
"So that's how it is..." she thought to herself after assessing the blast zone.[break][break]
As far as she could tell, Solar magic was ... different. While it wasn't quite like light or dark magic, it possessed different properties. It wasn't in just one constant state of excitement or relaxed like some other magics that she had encountered. To her, it was as though the element itself was bipolar, capable of going zero to a hundred or vise versa at the drop of a hat depending on certain circumstances. And thus, only one thing came to mind when she made this realization:[break][break]
"Fascinating..."[break][break]
Trying to figure out how to channel those properties was going to be difficult. It was like trying to channel two different types of magic of completely different properties and then manifest them at the same time. However, she had time to figure that process out. As long as she could find a string that could connect them, it could make it a lot easier; a central basis that could make the process much smoother.[break][break]
Verena stepped away from her golem with this, however, choosing to watch how Griswold was going to handle the other golems she had conjured up for him to fight against. Her eyes were firmly fixed upon the blonde as her fire golems were closing in on him. Though she wasn't an astute sensor, due to her magics close connection with the elements, she was at least able to "feel" the more intricate nuances to spells. It didn't do any good if she didn't know where it was coming from, of course, but it was helpful at least in training sessions like this.[break][break]
Griswold explained another aspect of his magic -- stars. However, his explanation was lacking she felt. Or rather, it was incredibly vague. She assumed that was due to a difference in education, however. Griswold likely hadn't educated like she had. On top of things, her family was one of scholars and had friends in Babel. Even if her family was one of failures, they still weren't without connections. Though on the brink of losing their status, they hadn't managed to keep their position as nobility for as long as they had without connections.[break][break]
Still, she was silent as she observed the example in real time, finding that to be a much more reliable method in learning in most cases, anyway as she paid close attention to the spell. Though she ordered her golems to try to move around, that was only because she wanted to maximize the amount of time she could observe the spell at work. It was difficult to keep track of, however, and her golems attempt at evading only lasted for so long before it violently blew up as a result of the spell, leaving nothing left.[break][break]
Verena had to put an arm over her facae just to try to squint and get a better look at what had happened. It seemed that the destructive potential of solar magic was truly something to behold. Bestimmung was a fairly reliable golem, but it simply couldn't keep up with the power that Griswold had at his fingertips now. Though it happened quickly, because her focus was entirely on the instance of that spell, she realized something.[break][break]
Solar magic contained "energy" at all times. That was the secret to unlocking its potential. One only needed to control the energy to unlock its potential. Griswald's magic was capable of altering its color depending on the time of day, but that was likely because it simplified matters for him. It was less an external factor and more one that was simply easier to let mother nature determine for him. It left less to need to think about when conjuring up ones spells after all. Most importantly, needing to think about how to control that energy wasn't something that one needed to do normally. It simply came innately.[break][break]
Verena had her remaining golems focus on Griswold, aiming to have them all come at him one at a time. Sonia was the first to show up, but the brunette followed it up with her injured Terra golem launching its fist at him after moving twenty meters closer to him from its original position to try to land the shot that way. By seperating the attacks this in this manner, it meant he needed to try to focus on more different things -- it should be efficient for his ki training.[break][break]
While he was busy with that, Verena closed her eyes, outreaching her arms to gather mana in the area. Just like when she had learned the element of sound from Suna, she was concentrating on creating an "atmosphere" that would be preferral for Solar magic. Using her mana as a substitute, she was "calling" Solar magic into the area. All around her, bright lights began appearing, flickering in a display of light, fading in and out.[break][break]
"Focus."[break][break]
She needed to control the mana to have complete control of it. Not just temperature and energy, but structural integrity. To be able to shape it. To move it. To control it. She needed it to become as natural to her to control as though she had been born with it. She needed that same level of control. Of experience. Of complete mastery.[break][break]
But she needed to make sure she wasn't asserting herself as dominant. Verena knew that she wasn't the dominant one. She was controlling an aspect of nature itself -- one that was far older and more powerful than anything she could master. Than anyone person was. The relationship between Summoner and Element was one of respect. One was not more powerful than the other. For without the respect of one, neither could be used to their full potential.[break][break]
Abilities:
With the two fire golems destroyed and one of the golems dubbed as “Terra” being harmed to some extent, the other golems that could fly and utilize sound that he believed were called “Sonia” were moving outside of his reach, which made things rather tricky as he would need to first sense the approach before being able to respond with a counter attack or other means of dodging. But even without his Ki to back him up, it was not all that hard to hear the large earth golem approaching his position, the weight being something he could both hear and feel with every step it took. Having given Verena some bits and pieces of what solar was really like, there were still some other factors he could throw in there, though they were likely going to be better off if he just showed it instead. On the other hand, it was something that was going to be rather hard to incorporate into a golem, or so he imagined.
In truth, he was not fully aware of the things a golem could or could not be made to do, or how one might be able to infuse them with mana for something or another after it had been created, as he primarily just focused on what magical capabilities he had. For him, knowing a bit about all things magic was not a waste of time or effort, though he’d rather be the guy that understood his own potential over that of someone else’s magic while having limited insight into his own capabilities. It was yet another one of those reasons why he was likely a good fit for the black bulls, for if he had been more interested in the magics of others, he might have been better suited for another squad such as the coral peacocks. Temporarily breaking that line of thought when he sensed the flying golems enter into his range, mana began to build up inside of his body.
Pushing it out of his body and condensing it around him, it would seem like he made a skin tight layer of solar mana. Using it to contain the constant flow of mana and keeping any of it from going to waste, it allowed him to both heal from a certain amount of the damage he took shortly after taking it, while also increasing his speed beyond what he was naturally capable of. As had become evident due to one of his earlier internal musings, Griswold had become a fair deal faster than he had been during their last encounter. Capable of moving twice as fast as that time, this spell went and added further advancements on top of it, which was at times exactly what he needed. Because of how he had become somewhat of a jack of all trades when it came to distances, there was really no place where he had a clear advantage or disadvantage anymore.
So even with his eyes closed, he was able to evade Sonia’s attack by pacing forward, allowing it to graze by him due to the more than likely unanticipated increase to his speed. As moving forward pushed him into the range of Terra, Griswold could almost see a very clear picture of his adversary in his mind, preparing to bring its fist down and pummel him into the dirt. But as said fist came towards him, it felt almost like the world was moving slower than it usually did, even though he was the one that had gotten faster. Experiencing the difference in the whole experience of moving this much faster than he usually did, he knew that he could move faster still, though that was not something he was willing to put up with as that would drain away his mana rather quickly. If anything, using multiple means of speed enhancement were only to be used when planning the quick downfall of an opponent, not to amuse himself or others during a spar.
As he was now, he could even use the same fundamental trick to increase his physical power by several leaps, which might even allow him to smash most of these golems without the use of his weaponry. Again, doing something like that would more than likely just take up too much of his mana. So as he slid to the side, letting the large fist and arm pass him by and smash into the earth, after which he made his way back once again to evade the sweeping strike of the other Sonia. Even when moving as fast as he did, putting in a proper counter attack was something that required his extrasensory capabilities to be pushed further due to some fairly detrimental side effects that came with it. Aside from the obvious drain on his mana when boosting his own speed, the amount of focus required to maintain his “Ki” sense not only meant he’d need to slow down a little, it was also still limited to a fairly small radius.
By mastering his Ki senses, he hoped to rid himself of most of these detrimental effects, or at least push them up and away to a point where they would not hold him back. In the sense of his range, he imagined everything eventually reached a point after which it was no longer as useful as it was on a smaller scale, or in the sense of magic, would cause a spell to straight up fizzle and die when moving outside of its own parameters. So to think that his sensory abilities would be any different was obviously a load of nonsense. As for him having to slow himself down in order to properly focus on where his enemies were, what they were doing and set up a proper counter to it that wasn’t just him evading it, that would more than likely be something he could get rid of entirely. He was confident in that manner, as he had already managed to push himself further than he believed himself able to.
“I didn’t have a lot of time to announce that, but this is yet another form of how solar can be applied. For this particular spell, I use solar mana to create a thin screen around my body to keep any excess mana from seeping out and going to waste, using that to heal most of the wounds I’ve sustained, as well as increasing my total velocity by quite a stretch.”
Not feeling a reason to bring up the fact that it could also be used to do things like increasing his physical strength, there were in fact some others spells he would wish to use in the actual fight. And because they were in a wasteland, he did not need to worry about doing any damage to nature, as there didn’t seem to be a single blade of grass or sapling of a tree around for miles. Due to the fact that he wasn’t using his eyes right now and could not sense all the way to where Verena had positioned herself, he had no idea that she was already trying to bring something along the lines of a solar golem into being. So when things fell quiet for a bit, he went ahead and asked for the difficulty to be cranked up a bit, something that was not all that uncommon for him at all given his personality. But that was just the way he was. He knew that he would never be able to push himself beyond his current capabilities if he took things slow and just went with the flow of things. Sometimes, things just had to be forced to move.
“If you’ve got something else laying around that might make things more difficult, feel free to throw in some of it. I don’t die easily.”

More than that, by channeling their mana in this manner, they also increase the speed at which they move by +10 m/s and enable themselves to use fractions of it to restore their own body or restore their mana skin. Can heal Senior damage, regrow digits in two posts, and regrow limbs and minor/smaller non-vital organs in four posts. For every turn that it is active, it will also aim to remove any debuffs if present following the "cleaning" rules. During the day, the aura around the caster takes on an orange hue, taking on a silver blue hue after dark.

"Focus. Focus."[break][break]
It was all Verena could do right now as she was trying to focus on sustaining the mana. The mana that was around her was so dense that it was visible, its coloration shifting from vibrant reds and intense golds to deep blues and calm silvers, clearly having some difficulty trying to keep it all together. As skilled as she was in her craft, it didn't mean she had a perfect aptitude to excel in all things. This required a delicate balance -- one that she hadn't quite had to try to do before.[break][break]
Still, as difficult as the task was, there wasn't any part of Verena that doubted her ability. When it came to matters of magic and learning, Verena was probably amongst the most educated. There weren't many who could say they could understand the delicate relationship between mana and man as well as she could, and that was why she had managed to get this far to begin with. [break][break]
Verena needed to maintain focus on at least preserving what she had out here. She was on the right track. The fact that she was able to get this type of response was proof of that, and it was already much better than she was expecting. The issue was that she still needed to figure out how to manipulate the energy that these were capable of emitting. She needed to be able to process two completely different concepts at once. The superhot gaseous stars that inhabited the universe. The absolute freezing rock that was debris. Everything about "Solar" as an element was in stark contrast. The vacuum itself of space. The more Verena thought about it, it was like trying to manipulate conceptually opposites.[break][break]
Conceptually opposites...[break][break]
"That's it!" she thought to herself, excitement starting to bubble up as she maintained her focus, oblivious of what was going on between Griswold and her golems.[break][break]
Even though she had given them pre-set orders, Verena still had to manipulate them on some level. This type of mental processessing was exceptionally difficult, needing to continue to ensure her golems were capable of "existing" by supplying them with mana, while continuously having to keep focusing on maintaining the mana she had managed to gather, a bizarre incomplete state of Solar magic.[break][break]
"Summoner Creation Magic: Leidenschaft. Summoner Creation Magic: Ertrinken," she said, summoning a single piece of each golem.[break][breka]
Leidenschaft was summoned with its maximum height at work, standing at an imposing twelve meters and dwarfing both humans.. A clearly much stronger version of Bestimmung just from appearances. Similarly armored, Leidenschaft was capable of emitting much stronger heat comparatively. The coal that made up its body was melting in some levels just due to how intense the heat it was was emitting. Veins of fire scattered throughout its entire body as the champion of passion manifested beside Verena beside a sea-serpent like creature.[break][break]
This sea serpent was similarly armored, and from head to tail also measured at twelve meters in length with the tip of its tail armor possessing a trident-esque design to increase the danger from tale swipes. It was obvious that this creature was one best used at sea, but was still more than capable of moving on land given the fact it possessed arms and legs which were similarly armored. Both golems seemed to possess an incredible amount of strength, though both were slower than Sonia. Which naturally meant they were going to be slower than Griswold as he was. But that was barely an issue.[break][break]
For Verena, this was a similar enough set of circumstances to use as a basis. If there were any golems she had remaining other than the two she had called on, she dismissed them. Griswold had already requested that she throw something else at him. Something about not dying easily. As much as she wished she could have fully heard it all, doing all of this multi-tasking within her head made it difficult to make room for much else. She knew he had also explained something about how solar magic was capable of being used to heal. A thin screen of mana, something about keeping excess mana from spilling out.[break][break]
Verena had no banter, as it was obvious her entire focus was reserved solely for the task at hand. She had managed to conjure up these two golems, but she hadn't given them any immediate orders yet. The heiress needed to first remind herself what her goal was right now. "Manipulate two conceptual opposites and manipulate them with a level of synchrocity to ensure the best of their abilities," she reminded herself.[break][break]
The truth was Verena was in a particularly dangerous spot right now. In the sense she was completely oblivious to what she had actually done. Even if Griswold wasn't the sort to die easily, these were the apex of her Golem designs right now. However, so adamant was she in in trying to understand this element that she had forgone the conscious display of what might be considered holding back. Despite that, she wouldn't be able to control them as well as when the two had fought in the exams, so there would still likely be a myriad of openings for Griswold to exploit.[break][break]
Still, he needed to be careful.[break][break]
"Leidenschaft, engage Griswold in close combat. Full speed, maximum offense," Verena ordered.[break][break]
Without any hesitation, the golem charged ahead at it's maximum speed, not bothering to slow down in the slightest as its flames suddenly manifested from its back, almost giving the appearance of wings as it raced ahead to the mage. The sea serpent seemed to remain dormant for now, however.[break][break]
If Leidenschaft was able to fight against Griswold, he'd notice that its movements were more about brute force and power. Rather than Bestimmung who seemed to prioritize speed and agility with some power, Leidenschaft was entirely about using its absolutely massive frame to its advantage, leaving smoking craters in the ground where it managed to strike. Leaving smoking impressions in the ground with each step.[break][break]
Element: Fire[break]Rank: Grand[break]Size: Up to 12m[break]Mana Cost: 50 | 25[break]Type of Golem: Balanced[break]Applicable Perks: Puppet Master, Reinforced Golems, Ranged Golems, Fierce Golems[break]Description: Upon saying the spells name, a golem somewhat reminiscent of Bestimmung appears. Leidenschaft seems to draw inspiration from Bestimmung. Enough to say that it is practically an upgrade, though there are still enough visual differences between the two golems. Just like with Bestimmung, the fire is contained within its body, covered up with a coal body. However, the fire from Leidenschaft burns so intently that it can still crack through, and it isn't unusual to see the coal start to partially melt from the intense heat that exists inside. It possesses strong legs, allowing it to move at speeds reaching [24m/s], and is incapable of being transporting anyone due to its intense heat.[break][break]Just like Bestimmung, Leidenschaft is armored [Reinforced Golems] around its neck, chest, shoulders, wrists, and a crown of a sort around its head. The protective armor around its neck is asymmetrical, compromised of three sharpened points of different lengths. The "crown" seems to both serve to assist with attempting to protect its head, while also serving as a reminder that it is among the strongest of fire golems that she can make.[break][break]It is an incredibly strong golem, utilizing powerful punches and kicks when dealing with opponents at a close range and emits a blue flame when doing so that sears whoever comes into contact with it. When fighting with Leidenschaft close range, one must expect to take [Grand] damage from its powerful melee attacks (it is incapable of exceeding Grand damage to a single enemy per damage rules under normal circumstances i.e. endurance debuffing). Its fighting style seems heavily inspired by martial arts, leaning more towards Valo's high-action fighting style.[break][break]Like its predecessor, Leidenschaft is capable of emitting heat from the palm of its hands when Verena orders "Burst". This heat spirals into an absurd spiraling flame that can reach up to [40m], moving at speeds of up to[40m/s]. The closer to the golem it is, the smaller the flame; as it reaches its full [40m] range, it completely engulfs that area in flames, growing in size by 2m every 2m.[break][break]Anyone caught in these flames will sustain [Senior] level damage. These fires will remain even after the attack due to the intensity with what they burn; however, a sufficient enough source of water will suffice in dousing it, as will any other sufficient means of putting out a fire. One might think that if they reside within the [2m] area within the cone that they're safe, but the intense heat being exuded by these flames is more than enough to completely cause [Senior] damage still (being hit by these flames and the heat does not stack; a single instance will still only deal Senior Damage. Anyone hit by this attack cannot be hit by Leidenschaft in the same attack it used this).
Element: Water[break]Rank: Grand[break]Size: Up to 12m[break]Mana Cost: 50 | 25[break]Type of Golem: Balanced[break]Applicable Perks: Ranged Golems, Puppet Master, Reinforced Golem, Fierce Golems[break]Description: Upon saying the spells name, an armored leviathan will appear. Ertrinken is without question Verena's strongest water golem at the current time, and all aspects of its design are streamlined to allow it to be nearly unmatched within the depths of the sea, while still just as potent on land due to it possessing arms and legs.[break][break]Ertrinken is a large sea-serpent-like creature. Golden armor decorates its tail, ankles, thighs, back, neck. On the end of its tail, a golden trident-like set of armor is attached to the tip of the tail, allowing it to use the tail for piercing and cutting attacks, instead of simple bludgeoning. Its serpentine body is covered in royal blue scales, akin to that of a dragon, adding onto its sea-serpent-like design, with its underbelly being a light blue color, matching the waters itself. The nose protrudes upward, visually reminiscent of a trident, and it possesses two horns on each side of its head, as well as two massive horns on the back of its head.[break][break]Ertrinken is capable of transporting up to five people at speeds up to [24m/s]. In addition, for every 75 [CON] the caster has, they are capable of conjuring up an additional one. It is capable of relaying simple information back to the creator -- namely, the location of an enemy, if it's been injured, finding an ally, et cetera. It is not a scout golem, so it cannot show locations, but as the caster is always aware of the golems location (under normal circumstances), it is possible for the caster to get an approximation.[break][break]Razor-sharp claws decorate its hands and feet, as singular claws sticking out from each leg about knee level, as well as underneath the forearms and spiked protrusions also stick out of the armor of the tail to increase lethality when using it to strike targets, giving it a maximum range of [4m] when using it for such a method. If it manages to hit someone with its tail, it likely propels them back [16m + 5 per 10 POW]. All melee attacks it lands deal substantial [Grand] damage, making it exceptionally difficult to approach.[break][break]Through [Ranged Golem], Ertrinken is capable of launching a pressurized burst of water that deals [Senior] damage from its mouth, reaching up to [80m] while moving at speeds of [40m/s]. Upon the caster giving the command "Drown", the attack is launched, with no other prep time needed beyond Ertinken needing to open its mouth.[break]
Abilities:
Without going on the offense, Griswold instead used his speed as a means of evading the unconnected fists of the Terra golem that were being forced towards him, even if it felt more like pistoning than punching. Normally, the speed he had now would be more than enough to deal with a bunch of golems, though this was by no means a normal situation. Not having his eyes to rely on made him a lot more careful since he did not have as much time to respond to any and all incoming threats, and for good reason. With his eyes being his primary means of warning and providing response, taking that part out of the equation forced him to focus on this hard to explain force that was called Ki. Only knowing that it was something that initially originated from one of the lands to the east, he could not exactly remember the name of it.
Knowing there to be several of them thanks to Hania’s explanation regarding the matter of those nations some time ago, it did not seem all that odd for a practice like Ki reading to have also made its way to the land of clover. Barely evading one of the striking Sonias that used one of the punches from Terra as a distraction, the dark haired individual noticed exactly how hard this whole thing was when having to keep it up for a prolonged duration. When he had first gone about practicing it, he had done so with one of the young black bulls members that wanted to be trained to become stronger. In response, Griswold had offered just that, but had decided that he would do so by effectively limiting himself with a blindfold and a wooden practice weapon. Due to the sheer difference in speed, having to limit his own for the sake of focusing and anticipating attacks had not been too much of a stretch.
But when dealing with an inanimate enemy that utilized raw strength and striking power, along with one that utilized speed and slicing prowess, that became a lot harder for a plethora of reasons. They did not breathe, leaving nothing to specifically listen for on that front, such as a temporary break at the moment of striking and exhaling. They did not hesitate in their movement like the average human would, especially when believing they themselves might suffer a detrimental loss by pursuing their current course of action. While they might not seem like much, they all afforded him with precious fragments of seconds that he now had to do without, making every fraction of a motion that much slower. And when dealing with multiple opponents, being slower was not something one wanted to be, as that meant giving away the one thing the outnumbered party had going for them.
That said, Griswold was perhaps not the greatest scholar in the kingdom, what with him not being a scholar at all, though he was by no means stupid. Learning quickly when threatened or under attack, it was in battle that he got to shine the brightest. It had taken him no more than a few seconds to figure out that the larger golem was just a means of distraction as it could clearly take a hit, as well as dish one out in the case of it being ignored. But the Sonia golems were, due to their speed and ability to lacerate a foe with relative ease his primary focus as he could barely outpace them as he was now due to the imposed limitations of using his Ki. So as he leaped and bounded back and forth to evade the attacks that were thrown at him, he sensed something else entirely, something so large that it did not even take any real sensory means to notice. Whatever it was, until it entered into his range, it was something that had to get put on the backseat for now.
But as he got a better feel for what to expect from the golems, who seemed to more or less be moving out of their base directives as Verena was clearly busy doing something else, there came a moment where Griswold felt confident enough to aim for a counter attack. Reaching for his black blade, he once again evaded the pistoning fist of the larger floating golem, using the same momentum of that dodge to strike down in an attempt at destroying the one that came in to cut him. Believing his senses were at the very least sharp enough to have timed this attack properly, it was not longer after it that whatever Verena had done let itself be known by making it into his extrasensory range. Opening his eyes for a moment to see what this new arrival was as he could tell that it was big, he saw a fire golem that was far larger than the two that had been blown up earlier.
“Well…. That’s more like it.”
Dashing back to dodge the initial strike, it was clear that this thing was a mix of being fast, durable and strong, though he had no idea as to how strong it was exactly. Were it not for the fact that all of these golems were making it hard for him to just walk around and figure out exactly how powerful and fast it was, Griswold would have loved to take his time when it came to dealing with this thing, though that had to wait. With his sword still in hand, he had some defensive means against whatever it was that came at him, especially if it were either Terra or Sonia. Believing to have taken at least one of them out, it would only be a matter of time before he would be able to get the others too. That was, unless Verena had taken back the reigns and returned to directly controlling her magical minions. In that case, it was very likely that this was not going to be over for quite some time.

It was perhaps a very good thing indeed that Griswold was trying to improve his ki. With Leidenschaft so close to him at this point, it would have been monumentally difficult to dodge otherwise. Its massive frame wouldn't have given the elven-born much space to move around in without being able to cover it first. In the Royal Knight Exams, Verena had moderately held back by containing the size of her golems. But in truth, she was more accustomed to manipulating giants, something she did to compensate for her own lack of skill in combat. What she lacked in skill, she could make up for in raw power.[break][break]
Leidenschaft wasn't as fast as Griswold, but its range of attacks due to its enormous twelve-meter size seemed to make up for that deficit, especially when even missing the elf impacted the area so intensely that it left small craters where its fists or feet were, likely making it even more difficult to actually move. The titan of flame was making it difficult to even get a spell in. If Griswold wanted something better, he had certainly received it.[break][break]
To make matters arguably worse for the Solar mage, Ertrinken was still active, and though hadn't yet made any moves, it was still very much a force to be reckoned with -- his ki would have informed him of that much. Two incredibly powerful golems were at her beck and call and yet...[break][break]
Verena was still focused hard on manipulating this mana. Controlling Ertrinken and Leidenschaft simultaneously while also maintaining her current progress was already a herculean effort on her part, but not impossible. She knew she could do it. The heat that Leidenschaft was emitting was overwhelming, and the cool water that maintained Ertrinken's existence was in stark contrast. These two elements were opposites. "Enemies", in a human way of looking at it.[break][break]
But they still could co-exist.[break][break]
"I need something more," Verena thought to herself.[break][break]
Verena had a practical theory to test out to better understand the core basics of Solar magic, but the issue was that it was still theory. Now, she needed to put it to the test. Unfortunately, that test was quite difficult to balance out. The best bet she had was...[break][break]
Verena looked over to the battlefield. Leidenschaft was currently engaged with Griswold and was giving the Bull an exceptionally difficult time. However, as close as they were, it would be unwise to try to use a ranged attack this close. It would almost surely hit, no matter how fast he was.[break][break]
"Ugh..." Verena said, wincing.[break][break]
Maintaining and manipulating exceptionally high-level golems. Quickly burning through her mana. Maintaining the mana she had called on to keep progress on her understanding of Solar magic. And paying attention to the fight at large. All of these simultaneously combined actions would inevitably result in a migraine that few would have been able to experience, causing her an immense amount of pain.[break][break]
For better or worse, however, Verena's pain tolerance was borderline unreasonably high. When one's body was quite literally falling apart as hers did for as long as it had been, there weren't many choices left available. She had no choice but to adapt, and as such her pain threshold rose as a result.[break][break]
"Okay" Verena thought to herself, rubbing her head as she glanced over to the sea serpent, who was facing Griswold's position, directly behind Leidenshaft who used its massive frame to hide her golems presence. "Drown."[break][break][break][break]
Verena's serpent golem shot out a torrent of water from its mouth, building up mana in the process. Verena ordered Leidenshaft to step back as the forty-meter second burst of water came flooding in, making a beeline towards them. The torrent was large enough that even though Ertrinken was still much taller than all of the living people here, it would have managed to hit Gris if he wasn't able to evade it in time.[break][break]
However, even though she didn't want to try to take advantage of a close-range burst if Griswold had managed to evade that attack, she immediately readied the next attack with Leidenschaft, deliberately making it a little slower for the punch as it lowered itself to be able to do so. She was trying to force Griswold back bit by bit, trying to put a bit of space between her fire golem and the other Knight. "Okay!" Verena called out. "I'm attempting something here, so please be careful!"[break][break]
On some level, she had managed to "come back", though this migraine was causing her extreme discomfort. She couldn't afford to just let these two golems run rampant and not be in full control. These were not golems to use for idle play after all. She only decided on them in a spur of the moment to help with her own training, but they were still incredibly dangerous. Verena had Leidenschaft turnaround, looking at the trail of water that Etrinken had managed to create from the initial attack. "Burst," Verena ordered, glancing over to Leidenschaft, the target specifically being the abundance of water that had managed to fill several of the craters.[break][break]
When heat meant liquid, two things normally would occur, Verena knew. The fire either died out with time, or the water would simply evaporate. But in both scenarios, steam would be born if there was an ample amount of water. What Verena wanted to see was not the scientific results but how these two magics interacted when clashing. How did these two opposites react to one another when confronting another? The answer would be in the scalding hot, and the brunette knew she needed to pay especially careful attention to this instance. How would the magic respond to another? What sort of reaction would mana have?[break][break]
She would have had them directly clash if not for the fact she was still helping Gris. But she needed to ensure she could do this too.[break][break]
It wasn't long for the flames to reach the craters. The initial result was unsurprising as intense steam violently shot upward, the water boiling as it sprayed downward. However, to Verena, this moment played in slow motion. That was it. That was what she needed to do. She had managed to get the answer she needed. Of course! Of course! It was so simple, how could she have not realized it? It was such a simple, obvious answer. The problem was never the manipulation of energy as two constants.[break][break]
Energy was something that was capable of being manipulated based on external factors. Those external factors determined everything about its consumption and usage. She didn't need to control two elements at once. If that was the case, it would have been out of the realm of possibility for her to begin with, given Golems were only ever a single element that made up their core. No, what Verena needed to worry about was the manipulation of the energy at the moment. That was it, that was all it ever was. She was so mad at how simple it was, and how she had missed that she almost wanted to scream at herself.[break][break]
With the mana in front of her, the vibrant reds and soft blues began flickering almost instinctively. Shaping it from small rocks and then causing those same rocks to burst. Verena was attempting to use simpler examples of how to use it, but it was obvious that she had managed to get an idea of what she was doing now. Her expression was pure joy. She was mad at herself, sure. But as she realized more and more of the applications of the magic, she was too busy getting excited. So distracted was she that she was completely oblivious to Griswold in this instance. Her golems remained on standby as well, as she was manipulating this new mana.[break][break]
"Urgh...!" she grimaced, falling to her knees.[break][break]
Just like before, she had over exerted herself with how much mana she was outputting. Verena's body didn't like that, even if it wasn't the first time. And it probably wouldn't be the last, either. Her golems were at least still around for now. "D-Don't worry about me, I can keep going," she mused. She got what she wanted; now, she'd ensure that she helped Griswold out if he still felt he could go further with his training.

COMBAT SUMMARY
[break]
[attr="class","verenaver2scroll2"] TL;DR a vague summary of leidenschaft vs griswold since I did post that he was coming at'chya, but you never acknowledged it... just said that gris was able to dodge his hits albeit just barely. while fighting, verena decides to test gris' ki by having her golem shoot a burst of water at him. ranged golems causes the spell's potency to drop a rank, so it's a senior level range of 80m at 40m/s. she tries to pressure him to get some distance so she can call for a time out, and then takes advantage of the craters formed by leidenschaft that are filled with water. creates steam, has a eureka moment. however, it's clear that she exhausted herself from all of this, burning through mana and collapses to her knees.[break][break]

To Griswold, the thing he was facing right now was more than likely the largest thing he had faced before on a long list of enemies, which was to be expected to some degree. Out in the land of clover, the amount of monsters that could be found were fairly well contained due to the large amount of human settlements that dotted the landscape. Within the noble region, he had come to expect that most of the actual “monsters” were more or less created by mages, such as the cheese elementals he had faced there at some point. That, or some rich guy had shipped in a monster to have as a keepsake or a novelty item, after which it escaped its bondage and made its way into the world. And even those were generally no larger than the average human, in the worst case no larger than something the size of a bear.
While there were a bunch of larger enemies he had encountered, perhaps the largest of them had been the large crustacean dwelling at the bottom of the ocean with the army it had at its disposal there. Truly, that whole ordeal had been an odd one that he would sooner choose to forget than remember, though his mind rarely worked that way. Obviously, he had managed to kill that thing, as well as a lot of other enemies that more or less came with a set of instructions. Having killed werewolves, vampires, magically enhanced statues, powerful hostile mages and even dinosaurs, it had all been molding him. Having fought against so many different beasts, monsters and skilled enemies, Griswold had managed to improve his sense of Ki to levels that were a fair bit greater now than they had been some months ago. It meant that every fight, every battle had been good for more than just the people he had saved because of them.
It had also pushed him that much closer to being able to fight ever stronger threats. Threats such as Aamon and his lackeys that would undoubtedly make themselves known soon enough, as it made sense that they would determine the battlefield where this show of force would be taking place. After all, he himself had no idea where the archdemon had holed up during all this time, even though he had already gone about tracking down some of his followers when they had shown up and begun causing trouble at Balgon prison. Showing his worth there, he could only imagine how much more powerful than him Aamon truly was. So as he evaded the attacks, he could feel the searing heat that radiated off of the elemental, proving that it was in fact very powerful and well worth the mana to summon and keep around. After all, not everyone was as fast as he could be, or possessed the means to properly defend themselves against it.
That said, he was still nowhere near fast or strong enough to take on Aamon, though he imagined that that was why Cyrus and Ardere were coming along as well. Compared to them, he was but a peasant grasping at straws, hoping one of those he managed to grab would hold and let him climb higher. But as was the case with so many of these things in this world, it was not often as easy as hoping for something, or the divide between peasants, commoners and nobles would have closed ages ago. By the time he had noticed the blast of water coming his way, the mana entering into his sensory radius, the only way to actually dodge it now was to go further beyond. With a burst of mana surging through him and amplifying his physical properties, namely his speed, he managed to evade the attack as he zoomed across the battlefield. Leaving a hole that was gradually filling up with water due to the torrent that was fired from a distance, Griswold opened his eyes to see what was actually going on.
Still being relatively new to the use of Ki, the amount of situations he had managed to use it in had been, to say the very least, interesting. As a mage, one learned to do things such as sensing mana and the like, as well as using their own mana in order to utilize spells, which was no longer something anyone considered to be much of a feat as almost any person within the land of clover possessed at least some level of magic. With the amount of mana a person had defining their potential in most cases, the average mage hailing from the forsaken region did not really have much hope for a future as a magic knight, what with the average commoner having more mana than a peasant, and a noble having yet even more than a commoner. And for how common it was in this land to be able to use mana for your own purposes, so rare did it seem to be to possess a decent grasp on Ki.
To perceive the world in a different manner, seeing the natural mana that to some extent existed within all things as a sort of thread that bound everything together, whether they be an ant, a monster, a human, a dog or the fire spirit itself. All things were connected in some manner, and through the use of Ki, one could in a sense open their third eye and see these kinds of things. When he had first dug into the whole concept a little bit deeper, this all sounded like a lot of words used to explain something really simple, as scholars often did. But the more he came to use it, the more it seemed like the explanation given was not even all that far off. To him though, it did not feel so much as mana as much as it felt like something more, like an underlying kind of energy that he became able to sense the more he opened himself up to it and practiced it.
In that sense, it had been much like a new muscle, which had been weak and incapable of doing anything on its own at first, but the more it became used and worked, the stronger it became to the point where it could actually be utilized in a fight. Feeling like he could sense things such as movement, like being able to feel the kinetic energy radiating off of things in motion and being able to respond to it, almost as if he was gradually awakening to something more than what he was capable of doing now. Because as he could feel these kinetic energies, it was almost as if he could tap into that kind of thing, like he could feel a sense of mana radiating off of that same energy like something he could almost grasp, yet it was as of this moment still out of reach. Whether it was actually what he believed it to be, an advancement of his own power that would enhance him in the not too distant future, or just a feeling, that still remained to be seen.
At this point though, there was really no use in continuing the spar any longer, as he had more or less managed to pick up what he had wanted to achieve along the way, which had more or less been to push the limits of his sensory radius, as well as increasing his reaction time alongside it, having felt that it was easy to forget that his body might not be able to move as fast when he was so caught up in his own focus. Judging by how Verena wanted to “Try something”, he figured he would give her the room to do exactly that, hoping that it might aid her in figuring out how to utilize solar magic for the sake of her golems. Using her water and fire golems to perform some kind of display by shooting fire and water into the crater, it did not really make a whole lot of sense to him as it seemed like a waste of mana. When it appeared like she attempted to control the energies that were being freed by the clashing of those two elements, Griswold believed that she might very well be up to something.
Watching the bright colors and a display of bursting rock, he could tell that she had done something just now, even though he did not really understand what it was. In spite of that, it seemed that she was somewhat glad, maybe even happy with the results, which led him to believe that she had also achieved what she had come here for today. Releasing his spells to stop the constant drain of mana, he saw how Verena had fallen to her knees, which made him believe that he was right in assuming she had gotten what she wanted out of all this. That at least was good to know, as it meant he was not the only one who had been able to learn a bit more about himself. When she claimed that she could still keep going, it seemed that she had not yet come to the realization that he had already managed to learn what it was that he needed to learn in order to use his Ki more effectively and with less of the detriments in place. If nothing else, it would allow him to last longer against the demons.
“There’s no need, I’ve gotten exactly what I needed, thank you. I imagine you've also found what you were looking for?.”
Being relatively calm about the fact that he had achieved what he had set out to do, he knew that there was still plenty he needed to if he was to actually master the use of his Ki, and sensing both mana and kinetic energy by the same standard. Ready to leave, he waited for Verena to get ready herself as it was still a fairly long trek back home, especially so shortly after expending so much mana.

All she needed to hear was Griswold had finished his level of training, too. Instead of trying to force herself back to her feet, she caved into what her body wanted to do, and collapsed back down, sitting down with only her arms to support herself. Or well, she might have been interested in it, but she was no different than a child right now. She had her sandbox, shovel, and bucket. Everything else around her just stopped existing.[break][break]
