The girl could not believe this. She received a notice from the elder at the Wilhelm estate that a Magic Knight was looking for an assistant to help them with a renown adventurer Ilhiana Vones. She was not given a name of the person with the elder stating it did not matter. She was expected to give them proper respect as this could be another chance at looking good before the Magic Knights Exam. However this mission was not going to be a simple as walking into a haunted house and beating up a corrupted flying void blasting hat. This was going to require some actual studying. Ilhiana Vones was not just any person. She was the best and she only worked with the best people. While obviously the girl was the best despite not being a Magic Knight, or established, or really even well known, she would have to prove it and show off her knowledge of the subject. The subject in particular was dangerous snakes in jungles and temples.
It was easy right? Just go to the Grand Magic Archives, read up on snakes, and then impress the Magic Knight and Ilhiana Vones. There was no pressure. Yet, the girl could not stop trembling in the mirror. She had on a tan cloak with a dark brown sleeveless dress with a skirt which came down to her and tan sandals. She slammed her fist together hoping to shake off her nerves and then ran out the room. She could not waste any second and the carriage to the Archives was going to leave soon. With a ticket in hand she sat down in the back next to a window and then took a deep breath. "I can do it. I can do it. I am not a weakling."

Although it was entirely likely that Klara could have handled things on her own when it had come to the task that she had been assigned, the elder Wilhelm in charge didn't wish to take any risks. It would spell disaster for the prestige of the family if she were to fail in her task so the Elder had figured that he might as well send another of her kin to assist in the affair. Lustian and Dante had both been quite busy at the moment so the task would eventually fall to the eldest of the cousins, Thaddeus Wilhelm. Admittedly, heading on out to perform such a task hadn't been something that he had wished to do at the moment. Given that he hadn't wanted Klara to have to worry about anything though, the Spring Deacon would eventually decide to go along with everything to ensure that it all had gone well.
Upon receiving these instructions, Thaddeus had decided to head straight to the designated location. It had been a tad far from his station in Nairn but it was something that the family had desired and as such, Thaddeus had to oblige. To hasten the journey, Thaddeus had decided to fly to the Royal Capital on his broom of flying. Obviously this would lead to quite the journey as he had traversed the lands but eventually he had found himself in front of the Grand Magic Archives. It was entirely likely that he would arrive around the same time that Klara would arrive, albeit it is also quite possible that it was earlier than her. It truly depended on how quickly her carriage was going to take. Either way, once he would arrive at the Grand Magic Archives, Thaddeus would promptly wait outside for her. He could really only hope for the best in this situation.

[attr="class","haniascroll"]The day had started much like others had, the white-haired male had raised little before dawn, went for a morning run around the family estate a few dozen times reading a book he had memorised along the way. It took away from the mind-numbing trivialities of the endurance and speed training he had been doing since he was a child, he understood why such things may have been needed but it didn't make it any less of an annoyance in his eyes. He was pretty sure at some point his usual route would end up being trapped and he'd have to stop reading and finally pay attention. After he had done several laps of the expansive estate he went and had a shower before going for a bath, it had been something he had always done, one of those quirks he just couldn't break from no matter what he tried.
The way he had always made sense of it was the shower was to wash off the sweat and dirt he had built up from sleeping and exercising while the bath allowed the muscles to relax from the workout he had done. After he had his normal wash and relax he grabbed a book and his breakfast beginning to read, eat and drink before looking for any notes or letters in his study. This was one of the few days he allowed himself to be light on training as he knew rest was just as important as the training itself. He knew that many would find it odd that he remained on his family's estate rather than in the Crimson Lions headquarters, more so since he was now its vice-captain. The answer to this was easy, he couldn't fit his personal library into his bedroom and so stayed at home.
It was then he noticed a letter awaiting him on the table, breaking the wax seal he read over the letter while sipping his tea. It turned out that the expedition he had previously attempted to go on hadn't proceeded. He wasn't one to speculate as there could have been several different reasons such a thing could have been called off. He knew it was wrong of him but he had found himself happy that it had. He had wanted to be there at the discovery due to his fascination with such things but was unable to due to his duties to his family and the kingdom. It seemed however the gods blessed him with a second shot, this meant another trip to the royal archives to see if any new information could be found on the subject. He didn't believe it would be the case but there was no harm in looking.
Like the first time, it seemed like a simple enough request but he always knew 'simple' was rarely what it seemed so packed a bag with pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, food, water, a first aid kit because he was pretty sure someone was going to get poisoned, bitten or something was going to get broken, where he did have healing magic to deal with that he opted for people not to rely on healing magic lest it forgets how to do things naturally, things needed for making tea because if he went more than a few hours without a cup of that someone was likely going to die and he didn't care about the consequences of those actions because he wouldn't leave any witnesses. There was also his own personal medical box that looked like another medical kit but it had been locked with a magic rune so no one but him could get inside.
He had also made sure to pack two sets of spare clothing because he just couldn't do dirt and grim, it would drive him nuts that and he was pretty sure something within his clothing was going to get ripped or covered in blood, it always did. Many would put it down to the Ravencrest being prideful and where that was part of it, the main issue was Hania was quite the germaphobe though did manage to hide it. he was pretty sure there were others that would be on the expedition so he would have to quaint himself with them too. He just hoped they were smart he didn't feel like burying bodies so early in the morning. The grand archives weren't too far from home and given the crisp morning air he decided he would take a leisurely stroll to his destination with everything he had packed in tow and walked to the archive.
It may have seemed odd but he knew just like last time the selection process would happen later that day and from there, things would move exceedingly quickly if you were accepted so he refused to be caught unawares. He did pity anyone who had no idea what they were stepping into.
Rank & Element: Junior ¦ Light Class & Type: Relic ¦ Accessory (bracelet) Magic Specializations: Physical Reinforcement ¦ Healing Appearance & Lore: A simple bracelet made out of reinforced glass with an opalite charm dangling from it almost like a pendulum, that gives off a dull light during the day and a bright light during the night preventing any natural shadow from forming.
There is nothing of major historical importance or deep story into where this item came from. The white-haired heir of the Ravencrest family has suffered from terrible day and night terrors since he was young and still does to this day. When asked what is wrong he brushes it off telling people not to worry it was a condition he had. He will never go into the terrible things he sees, in fact, he personally wishes he could forget he quickly realized that his perfect memory was a double edge sword and at times he truly wished he didn't have it.
His elder sister Lydia was the first to realize that it happened more when he was in an emotional state or surrounded by darkness. She also realized that he refused to sleep unless every light source he could find was active or he would sleep outside under the sun during the day, this wasn't optimal as he was to be trained to take over the family if anything were to happen to Lydia. Still, there wasn't much anyone could think to do to help him as he refused to open up but even if they could that came with a different set of hurdles they had to get over. Hania earlier in his life wouldn't take things from people due to his treatment before being adopted.
It took a while but Lydia finally found a way to help her younger brother, she had a crystal made with light inside and told him to use it when he sleeps. She said it was hers and she just wanted to see if it would help. He was reluctant but she said it only had to be a few days so he accepted. Throughout those few days, he slept somewhat peacefully so it was clear that it helped but not enough, she could only guess that the light wasn't strong enough. She realized this would be fine for a normal child afraid of the dark but it was clear to the pink-haired woman that this wasn't a normal situation.
She personally designed what she believed would help him the most, she chose the materials, their appearance even the opalite that dangles from it. As the bracelet was being made she slowly started to imbue her own element into the glass beads and the opalite as the former was created and the latter was shaped. It took close to a year to complete but Lydia seen it as something that should be done slow and steady, this was to make sure that it was done right the first time and that no matter what it would be near indestructible for whatever he may face in life.
On what is now classed as Hania's eighth birthday after a certain incident happened, she gave him a box, within it laid the bracelet. He was told to keep it with him always as she would be there to keep the darkness at bay and watching over him so he could be at peace while he rested. From that moment he has always kept it with him even if he hasn't always worn it.

Finally she was here. The Grand Magic Archives. It was here that she would expand her brain on that likes of snakes and temples. With a cheerful smile she stepped out of the carriage and started walking into the building. It was here that she saw Thaddeus waiting outside. "Oh hi Thaddeus." The girl continued walking only to stop a few paces after passing him. It was here that she would suddenly back up and verify that the man before him was the very deacon. "THADDEUS. Why are you here?"
She was not informed that any of her cousins were going to be here. Worst, he got here first! The girl let out a sigh and would walk in the building with the man. It was going to be a bummer if she heard that the man was also assign to help her. Like, did the family not think she was good enough? Did they not think she could not study? She got great grades in school. She slapped her cheeks. "I will prove that I can do this." It was at this point that she stormed forward to the front desk.
"Hello Ma'am. Where are the books on Snakes?" The woman handed the girl a card with some identifiers used to find books. Maria thanked the woman and then stormed off again. It would take no more than 10 minutes before she finally discover the mother load of books. There were so many types of snakes, so many times of things about them. It would have been easy to get lost in them but she had to focus, she needed the ones that told her about he most dangerous of temple snakes.

Although he had only been doing as he had been ordered by the elders, it would seem as though his actions had gone on to upset his cousin yet again. The Spring Deacon had honestly been hoping that Klara would have been happy to lay her eyes upon him, or that his presence here would reassure her that she wasn't going to need to go at things alone, but he had quite clearly been in the wrong. While he had waited patiently for his cousin with a smile on her face, her initial reaction to his appearance would quickly knock that smile down. "Ah... I suppose that they never mentioned that I was coming than..."
The fact that she had reacted that way wasn't something that the Spring Deacon had desired to focus on so much so instead he would opt to do as he was ordered. Even though he came all this way out here to assist her in this matter, it wasn't as though she was the one that had asked for him. Next time he'll be sure to check in with her on these kinds of things before simply showing up. After all, teens were teens and even they had needed some time to do things on their own. That's the only way that they could really grow into adults.
Swaying his head from side to side gently, Thaddeus would begin to follow Klara on into the grand archives. There wasn't any real reason for him to have to wait outside if she was inside after all. From the looks of things, his cousin had been storming off to handle things on her own yet again. At least she was seemingly having a good handle on things. The fact that she had managed to even get as far as to locate these books that she had been searching for had been surprising to him. She had been so strong headed that he wasn't quite sure if she was going to be able to figure out the library system. Figuring that he might as well ask what exactly is was that she had been looking for, Thaddeus would approach the girl from behind. "Right, so, what exactly is it that we are here for? I can understand that you are trying to delve into research on a few things but what is your purpose for doing so? And how exactly can I go about helping you?"
Having caught a glimpse at one of the spines of the motherload of books, Thaddeus would begin to raise but a single curious eyebrow. "Snakes? What exactly do snakes have to do with this expedition of hers? Does this Vones woman believe that there are going to be snakes dwelling within th-" It would than dawn on the Spring Deacon that this woman had supposedly been interested in delving deep into the jungles of the Forsaken Region. A place that he had come to know quite well in his journey thus far. "Ah..."

[attr="class","haniascroll"]Hania got to the archives around thirty minutes after leaving his family's estate and headed right in, it was like he remembered it, then again when weren't things as he remembered them? Even though still early in the morning there were still academics and scholars on the steps whispering about this so as not to disturb those around them. As he walked up the steps he heard a young brash female voice that caught the attention of everyone in the immediate area, it was still early in the day and he could already tell he wasn't going to enjoy it. She had no idea why she seemed upset as he recognised them both being members of the esteemed Wilhelm family. He didn't get into the politics of other families unless it affected his own so he didn't think much about it as he like everyone else went back to what they were previously doing.
Entering he saw the girl go to the help desk to ask about books no doubt, he, on the other hand, bypassed that and went to the section that the information would be at that he required. He already knew the information word for word but he enjoyed the feel of books and reading them nonetheless. Seeing the girl near him picking up a large stack of books about snakes he already knew what she and the other person were likely going to attempt and if she got so fiery from seeing a relative waiting for hr here she was going to have a terrible time with the head of the expedition because the woman wouldn't take such tantrums, she would send her away the moment on seemed like it was on the horizon. He moved to get two books maybe three hundred and forty pages in length each before heading to the table the pair was at.
Without a word, he sat down across from the pair and placed his items quietly beside him with that he placed the books on the table and slid them carefully over to the young woman who seemed to be trying to study. "Work smart, not hard." he said simply "I am guessing you just asked for books on snakes given you made the shelf on them sparse." he continued "You should have asked for poisonous snakes that live in jungles or for a book of anti-venoms." he finished showing just how much exact questions would save her a lot of time "If I was to hazard a guess I would say you are trying to become a part of the archaeological group Miss Vones is putting together." it wasn't that much of a leap of faith given the buzz around it still and the books she had requested.
Bending down he took out a notepad and a pen handing them over to them both "My name is Hania and I intend to be doing the same thing. I was supposed to have gone on the first attempt of this exhibition but duties to my family and to the kingdom must come first." he said his tone stoic 'more now than ever it would seem' he thought to himself. His elder sister had gone missing so he had been forced to take leadership in her absence, he was now a vice-captain a position he never actually wanted but it was something the squad was lacking and it was impacting morale so challenged to take the seat and then there was the impending summons that he would need to go help vanquish the archdaemon Asmodeus. He was just wanting to forget all that for now and do something that made him happy.

"Yeah Thaddeus. There are going to be like monstrous snakes that I will be protecting the client from. So I got to be prepared and ready and be able to prove I'm ready... and... ugh. What if they don't think I'm ready." The girl dropped her head as her fear started to grip onto her heart. Her unending smile survived but the girl would creep into her boom to hide her face. To her surprise and somewhat horror. A very important person appeared beside her. The Royal Knight and, more relevant and arguably important to her goals, Vice Captain of the Crimson Lions sat right next to her. Her eyes were wide and she slowly dropped the book unsure if this was a dream, a nightmare, or just real life.
Maria stood up and quickly gave the man curtsy to start a proper greeting, "Greetings sir, I am Maria Klara Wilhelm It is an honor to sit next to you." Normally, the girl tried to avoid being in a position where she had to act in such a way around people who mattered but since she was so focused on this mission, she forgot to take the actions to properly conceal her own identity. Thus, she had to make sure she represented the Wilhelm family properly. With the formality out of the way she would return to her seat. The girl scanned through her books only to feel her soul leave her body. Such a high ranking person was going to help out the explorer. She had no hope. Also, they knew all about snakes and stuff. If she was lucky, maybe the adventurer would at least pity her.
The only reason she was not giving up was because her family told her to do this. Even if they did not believe in her cause they sent Thaddeus along, it would be weak to given in crying and going back to ask for an easier assignment. She had to try. She had to give her best effort. If that did not work, then she had to play to her strengths and make it work. "Vice Captain sir, have you been to the location the explorer wants to visit?"

Having already taken a seat beside his cousin, Thaddeus would grab a small pile of books from the group of them that Klara had already snagged. If he was going to be of assistance in this matter than he should at least perform his due diligence and review her findings. Whether the material held within would prove useful or not in their time of need, he wasn't sure, but it was best to collect as much information as he could before they had left. Something within these tomes was likely to prove of assistance at some point or another. Of course the Spring Deacon wasn't able to delve that deeply into the book before an individual had chosen to take a seat directly across from them.
Taking a moment to look up, the Spring Deacon would quirk an eyebrow while inspecting this newcomer. A slender yet athletic individual whom had white hair and eyes of an ice blue hue. This individual had dawned a pair of silver clothing and honestly had seemed rather familiar for some reason. No matter how much he had tried to put his finger on it though, Thaddeus just couldn't determine where it was that they had known this person from. Not until they had mentioned their name anyways. Hania. Hania Ravencrest. A royal knight that has reached the peak of mages all around and is already considered to contain wizard king potential. A powerful mage that wields the magic of Ice and is currently the acting Vice Captain of the Crimson Lions... While there were plenty of individuals that the Spring Deacon had met in his time thus far, there has yet to be one that contains as much raw power as the man that now sits before him.
Not sure of how to act in this moment, the Spring Deacon would immediately avert his gaze from the man. He hadn't wished to offend him to any degree, lest he take his tempers out on the Church of Clover. This wasn't the kind of thing that Thaddeus could survive if he were to somehow offend the man. Whether that had been in regard to his social life or his actual life, he honestly hadn't known. Even with these thoughts running through his head though, Thaddeus had known that he couldn't just not say anything to the man. Especially now that Klara had decided to speak up. "Right... Hania Ravencrest. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am Thaddeus Wilhelm, Deacon of the Church of Clover. T-... I am looking forward to working alongside you in this expedition. Hopefully my cousin and I can live up to any set expectations that may lie before us."
Having said his piece, Thaddeus would set down the book that he had been reading through. He would than begin to filter around through the pile to see if he could come upon any other tomes that had spoken on the subjects that Hania had recommended: Poisonous Snakes and Anti-Venom. If those were the kinds of things that the expedition team was going to face than it was likely that Thaddeus was going to need to protect the group with his blessed armaments. On the other hand though, it likely wouldn't even need to come to that with Hania by their side.

[attr="class","haniascroll"]Hania looked at the young woman as she explained what they were to expect and closed his eyes to prevent himself from rolling them. He knew there were larger than average-sized snakes but to find them outside of magically condensed areas such as dungeons or grand mana zones was incredibly rare. "Quite the imagination you have on you." he muttered his tone hadn't changed from the stoic one he had used previously. He opened his eyes and looked at the pair "Miss Vones has gotten permission from the wizard king to put an archaeological team together with the hopes to research a recently found, lost temple." he informed them both "Of course, in addition to researchers there will be need of guards, that being said, it is best that everyone show they have an understanding of the dangerous wildlife and how to tend to it lest it ends with people not returning home." he finished showing why this was needed.
"Also, if she doesn't believe you are committed or ready she will dismiss you." he answered without skipping a beat "My own archaeological tutor was turned away as he didn't make her standards." he informed them both, he had honestly felt sorry for the man when he saw him being sent away. "Her standards are very high and she cares little about titles and ranks, she treats everyone the same." he warned them, if they had been Silva then he would have worried but due to them being Wilhelm he believed it wouldn't be so much of an issue to be treated the same as commoners while on the expedition. He understood the reason behind it but wondered if they would "I'm curious, do you know why she would do such a thing?" his voice hadn't changed the entire time but this was clearly a test for the pair.
It was then what he hated happening happened and let out an audible sigh. "You are a civilian so no need to call me sir, even my family's staff don't call me sir and they work for us." he said his tone showing a bit of frustration in the undertone. "Also you aren't sitting next to me, you are sitting across from me, it isn't quite the same." he continued, he had to wonder if it was nerves or the want to suck up that had her acting in such a way. His own family may be lesser royals nowadays, but, theirs was still higher nobility meaning they more or less ran in the same circles socially so it couldn't have been due to that and as he had pointed out they were citizens so he held no authority over them when it came to rank. It made no sense to him.
"There is no need for sirs, nor is there a need to call me vice-captain I deplore being called by either. Calling me by my first name is preferred." He hadn't liked being called sir, lord or master since becoming a member of his family and he never actually wanted to be the vice-captain it was more for the betterment of his squad that he challenged to take the vacant position. He had told his own captain as well as others not to call him by the title. "I have not, I was supposed to during the first attempt but I had other engagements that took priority." he answered, he wouldn't go further than that currently as he saw no real need to. He had made sure to give ample notice to the leader of the exhibition so she could find someone to replace him.
Being a former magic knight herself she was more than understanding and wished him safety in whatever was going on. "If you act like this around her she'll send you home. You need to be relaxed yet confident and you need to show that you know what you're talking about or that you are capable." he stated fearing for the young woman currently. "From what I can tell you are passionate but you are also erratic and resemble a hammer." he said motioning to the large stacks of books she had on the table "Passion is a good thing but being a hammer only works in certain settings, this isn't one of them as it requires finesse." he said pointing to the two books on the table. He wondered if she would understand why he used that analogy.
"Let me explain. A hammer covers a lot more area so it's bound to get something right eventually but it means taking in or doing more to do that. A scalpel is more precise and does exactly what it needs to do without the additional work or effort needed to get the same outcome. It also means that you won't take in as much irrelevant information or do more harm than needed." he finished by showing the analogy could be used in several situations "I guess this is why I'm blessed with having precise spells outside of my illusions." Hania only had a single attack spell that was an area attack and he only really used it if there was no other alternative. His eyes then went to Thaddeus who seemed to be having a difficult time with his presence also bit not quite extreme as Maria was.
"I am Hania Ravencrest but I do not announce my last name as I prefer standing on my own feet than riding the coattails of my family's name." he told him, nothing bothered him more than when a noble felt like they were entitled to this and that just because they had been fortunate to be born into the family they had. Equally annoying was when they relied on their family name instead of standing on their own feet, but those were things that wouldn't change and so he wasn't about to worry about it they'd find out eventually if and when their families fell out of favour the cold, unforgiving nip of reality as it bit them. "Thaddeus, I put down the two books best for what is going to be asked of you in the interviews." he said looking at the man as he looked at the large pile of books.

The royal knight had a way with words, and by way with words, she meant that he knew how to scare someone to death. Clearly his strength was not only his his magic but his intelligence. It was admirable but also a reminder for how far she had to go since he already picked out the cracks of weakness in her foundation for strength. She clenched her teeth holding on to her smile while moving her eyes to anything less threatening. "She will see that I'm both ready and committed." Her family would also see that it was completely not necessary to also send Thaddeus.
When the knight asked the million dollar question, Maria had the obvious answer. "Ms. Vones is a strong individual of mind and values other strong individual. When you bring multiple strong people together, then you create the strong foundation to do powerful things. In this case, the powerful thing is research but even information, discover, and advancement can give access to power and strength in other ways. That's what my mother told me." That last line sucked the strength out of the girl, destroying any confidence she built up. "But... just because your born strong... doesn't mean you will stay strong. A name only... gives you good foundation."
The girl wound apologize when the knight corrected her. It was so strange. Such behavior, lack of recognition for one's deserved feats and merit was such an abnormal thing for her. While she often tried to hide her identify, she would never deny someone's desire to call her what she was. But again, the girl tried to be respectful to those who deserved respect. So she would remember this for the future. The next comment about seating was... well... unneeded but Maria did not have the confidence to argue back at this point.
It was at his point that the knight would start saying some really demoralizing things. It was was followed by some advice but Maria could feel herself cracking inside. To think even not only her family but the magic knights did not have faith in her. She started trembling and quickly donned her hood not wanting to seen after such a weak performance. This was further followed with a metaphor. She was a hammer and this job required a scalpel. By now, she wanted to run away. The lack of faith in the room was suffocating. "Oh... th-th... thank you... for... for your... advice. I'll... try to im-im-improve and become a... scalpel."
The girl then opened one of the two books that the knight pointed out and started reading desperate to salvage any information that could make a difference in her future evaluation. She had lost faith in herself. It was not the first time others have been critical of her either so the girl felt even less motivation to argue or fight back. If nobody was going to believe in her, then she just have to pray that her foundation, the fact that she was born strong would keep her going.

Although Thaddeus didn't have much of an opinion on the situation at hand, given his overall lack of general knowledge about Ilhiana Vones and her work, he still hadn't quite liked how the royal knight was speaking to his cousin. Not that he could really stand up against the man, given the vast difference in power between the two of them. As the duo had spoken with one another, the Spring Deacon would remain quiet and pick up one of the books that the royal knight had placed before them. They would than begin to flip to the opening of the book before reading through it piece by piece. His focus had been divided between the book before him and the conversation that was happening between the others. Once Klara had chosen to submit to what Hania was saying though, Thaddeus would pull away from the book for a moment.
"While I can assuredly say that you are prone to making rash decisions at times, Klara, I also believe that there tends to be some merit to the way that you operate. This expedition that you are attempting to join... I'm not quite certain that you should change yourself so much for something along the lines of this expedition. At the end of the day, there is no saying whether or not we will be allowed to join this expedition even if you do attempt to change yourself into a scalpel as opposed to a hammer or whatever. Honestly, you shouldn't be worried about whatever kind of tool you might represent. As long as you stay true to yourself, I am sure that things will work out. It depends entirely on how you choose to go about things."
The Spring Deacon's gaze would now begin to swivel around towards Hania. While they had admittedly been worried about the possible confrontation between themselves and the royal knight, they had also understood the possible repercussions that could occur if Klara had continuously been beaten down about their personality. "Hania, I appreciate your concern and understand where it is that you are coming from. However I would humbly request that you not try and shape my cousins personality. It is our personalities that make us who we are and she is too easily influenced by the words of others." The gaze of the Spring Deacon would than begin to drift back down towards the book as they would flip to the next page and continue reading. "We can only hope that Miss Vones is willing to accept us as we are, for if not, she'll just have to suffice with whosoever comes her way. No matter the power behind you, there is only so much that a single person can do on their own."

[attr="class","haniascroll"]Hania looked at Maria with intrigue he hadn't ever been a firestarter so to speak, it just wasn't in his nature and figured that was why the ice element was the one he had been born with. "I'm sure she will." his tone had remained neutral as he moved into the belongings he brought with him and handed over a notepad to them each so they could take notes with the required writing instruments. "Excuse me for a moment." he moved his hand to his chest and bowed faintly his left hand to the side and away from his body. He knew that he wasn't everyone's cup of tea but at the end of the day he knew he didn't have to be, he disliked being around people at the best of times but played nice when it was required. It was around twenty minutes later he returned with a tray.
On it was a teapot, three cups, a bowl with sugar cubes, sugar cube prongs, a small jug of cream, a small jug of milk, a bowl of lemon slices, three spoons, three forks and three slices of cake "I do apologise for the wait." he said placing it on the table between them. "I always find a snack and something to drink helps studying." he could study without such things but he always preferred them. He didn't need to seek permission to bring such things as his cousin had already told him in the past if he brought such things in if there was any damage caused due to it then he would be replacing them out of his private library. Hania had no issue with this as he was careful and would replace anything as needed. "Everyone can be of strong mind and values, it is where those values lie." he stated thoughtfully, his tone unchanging.
"For example, your values will be different from your cousins though you are of the same family just due to the paths you walk. This doesn't make either person's values wrong just differing points of view." he said starting to pour the tea "A rogue's values differ differently from someone abiding by the law and may even differ from other rogues depending on their morals." he continued placing the first cup before Maria. "Do I agree with what rogues do? Of course not. Do I understand why some may turn to the path they walk? Yes. Do I condone it? Certainly not, but, in their minds, they are doing what is required to survive." he said starting to pour the second cup of tea. "We all have parts to play in life even if we don't want them or aren't ready for them and the latter is fine." he said calmly looking to the amber liquid in the cup.
"Power and strength can only take you so far Maria and also bringing a lot of powerful people together can cause catastrophes." his tone sounded saddened at least in its undertone though it was faint and would be easy to miss if you weren't looking for it. "There are many documented cases throughout history, besides, someone needn't be strong to tip the scale of power or be the reason a conflict comes to a swift end. As I said, everyone has their parts to play in this life." he said passing the second cup towards Thaddeus. "For example, I heard in the noble circles you saved a child's life. You aren't the strongest mage out there currently, but, you still made a great change for the family who could have lost their child if you hadn't been there to protect them." he said trying to help her understand a little more.
He started to pour tea into the third cup but put it down and walked over to her poking her in the forehead like his first elder sister use to do to him when he was being foolish. "Stuttering doesn't suit someone such as yourself or any Wilhelm for that matter." he said smiling a little "You are as unmovable as mountains in your resolve and this is one of the many reasons your family is respected." he moved to be at eye level with her "There's nothing wrong with being a hammer, there is nothing wrong with being a scalpel... the true trick is being both and knowing when to be which..." he brought his hand away from her forehead.
"A wiser woman than me said if you lean into one too much then someone else is going to pay the price, true strength is finding the balance so the price will rarely if ever need to be paid." he stood up and went back to the teapot starting to pour his tea once more "I believe you have the potential to find that strength of balance, right now you are just unpolished." he finished, pep talks weren't his thing but he could see the damage done to her confidence and he didn't believe it solely came from his words, there was more at play. His eyes moved to Thaddeus as he spoke "I am not asking her to change, I assure you." his words were blunt on the matter "I know the woman who we are going to be getting interviewed by..." he sighed putting down the teapot "I've seen people with years more experience than any of us being turned away by her." he finished his eyes going back to Thaddeus.
"If she believes anyone is a liability, is unfit for this task or is just there for personal reasons she will send them away. This is what I was attempting to explain." He looked at his half-filled cup "Wilhelm at times though strong in their resolve have been known to be brash and I don't wish someone at the beginning of their path having their confidence further eroded by people." his eyes looked at the pair for a moment "Someone doesn't stutter like that for something that wasn't even a scolding but advice to help them progress through what is to come." he stated "I have never been one to sugarcoat my words nor am I going to change that so I wouldn't expect anyone else to change their personality if I would be refusing to lead by example." he shook his head a little.
"Also, our personalities are not the only things that make us who we are, if they were people would leave me alone but they do not." he said picking up the teapot once more "Our relationships and experiences also play a part in shaping us and our personalities..." he stated "Perhaps our elements play a part in that also, it is something to think about." he said as he finished filling his cup "I don't think she is easily swayed by the words of others, I think her confidence has been chipped away at by those around her." he said placing a slice of cake next to each cup "I believe she is plenty capable of making her own decisions and following her own path regardless of whether she is brash or patient, I think she just needs a chance to prove herself instead of people treating her as if she is an incompetent child who is as easily swayed as the branches of a willow tree." With that he sat down once more and moved into his bag to bring out some honey to sweeten his tea before starting to write notes on how to create certain anti-venoms.

While reading the book looking for anything and everything in a desperate study attempt, her cousin spoke up and for the first time ever, she was not the target of his long speeches. No, her cousin was defending her for once. Not only that, but he sort of complemented her. Her scrambled thoughts started to simmer as the deacon, unironically, injected some faith back into the atmosphere. The girl could feel her grip on the book grow more secure and the words on the pages became more clear. So with a deep breath, she was back in the mind of hope. It was a little hope but it was still hope. It was here that moment that the Vice Captain excused his self for a brief moment.
When he returned, he brought with him 3 tea cups, a pot of tea, and more words. This time they seemed to be more carefully selected showing off his ability to be the scalped he claimed to be. He also managed to beat out Thaddeus for longest speech. It was quite impressive. The first of his words targeted the idea of values. For Maria, the only value that mattered to her was the idea of strength. It was the defining thing that raised her and it was this driving force that outcast her into this new life. Everything she was doing was to prove to someone that she had it. It was to convince herself that she was not weak. However, she never really thought about that idea. To her the only value that mattered was strength and while that had many different faces, it was easy to point out. Hania brought forth the idea that maybe there were other values. The fact that a rouge could have values despite being deplorable was never something her current self could flavum. If any other person said this, she would have brushed it off but hearing a Vice Captain say it gave it just a bit more weight for the girl to keep it in mind for later.
The next topic was on that of power and how it was not always a good thing to bring powerful people together. This was something that Maria could not agree with. While powerful people did get together to do bad things, it was not strength that was at fault. Also, being weak in fighting was not the only way to be strong. These points however would not be something she would speak up about. In truth, she was happy that the pressure in the air was more relaxed and the man before her did not seem so cold anymore. Plus, the man snuck a small treat for the girl’s ego.
Her eyes were completely filled with stars when he mentioned one of the deeds the girl mentioned. A cheeky grin spread across her face. Not just any Magic Knight heard about her but the Vice captain of Crimson Lions himself. That was like… 2 ranks away from Wizard King. At this point she was completely enamored by the man. He was virtually her hero with that bit of knowledge. Thus the next piece of advice the girl was given was… well… taken much better. With the poke on her forehead, she regained her ability to speak. “Ah yes sir… I mean… Yes, Hania.” A giggle followed that, “sorry… I just got a bit excited.”
With that she dove back into her books and started to take notes on those poisonous snakes. If she could identify them, then she can react. That's where she was going to shine.

Given that Hania had left behind a notepad for the Spring Deacon to use in his absence, Thaddeus had decided to get to work. Not only had he prepped everything that was going to be needed for the two civilians but he had gone off to do something a bit different in the meantime. This had left Thaddeus feeling a bit strange at the moment. Especially after everything that he had just said to the Vice Captain. Even with that being the case though, Thaddeus had known that there wasn't much to worry about here. No, he was going to have to turn his full focus towards the tasks at hand. It is for this reason that Thaddeus would grab a quill and begin to take down several notes whilst flipping through the pages of the book that Hania had left behind. The information that he had managed to accumulate had been quite extensive, thanks to the dedication of the author, which would be quite useful for this small little adventuring party in the future.
After having flipped through the book for several minutes, Thaddeus would come upon an entry for the Black Mamba. This was but one of the several different types of snakes that could be found within the jungle lands, but at the moment it was the one that he had been taking notes on. One of the most interesting facts that he had discovered had been the fact that black mambas are actually brown in color. They had really only gotten their name from the blue-black of the inside of their mouths, which they supposedly display when threatened. Black mambas are apparently fast, nervous, lethally venomous, and when threatened, highly aggressive. They have been blamed for numerous human deaths, and clover kingdom myths exaggerate their capabilities to legendary proportions. For these reasons, the black mamba is widely considered one of the world’s deadliest snakes.
Another interesting tidbit that the Spring Deacon had come across, when it had come to these black mambas, had been the fact that not only was this creature a carnivore but its poison is neuro-toxic. Unlike most poisonous snakes where the venom travels slowly through the blood stream, allowing a victim time to get treatment and to isolate the poison using a tourniquet, the black mamba's poison goes straight for the nerves, attacking the central nervous system and shutting down major organs. It is said that after twenty minutes after being bitten you may be lose the ability to talk. After one hour you're probably comatose, and by six hours, without an antidote, you are dead. From what the Spring Deacon had been able to tell, facing off against one of these snakes was going to be hell... If accepted by Ilhiana Vones, Thaddeus was sure that he was going to need to give it his all to protect both himself and his cousin. He was going to have to pull out all the stops when it came to this... Thankfully his blessed armaments had been enough to ward off most things that he had faced up to this point. Unless these snakes had been far superior to his spells defenses, it was likely that they wouldn't have much to worry about. Or so he had hoped.
Eventually Hania would make a reappearance. From what the Spring Deacon could tell, the Vice Captain had come back with several drinks, snacks, and of course additional tidbits that they could use to spruce up the aforementioned. This act had initially led the Spring Deacon to believe that the Vice Captain had been trying to buy them off, in a purchasing their loyalty kind of sense, but that idea had quickly left the Spring Deacons mind. Once Hania had begun to speak about what it was that had been on his own mind, Thaddeus couldn't help but nod along idly. He had understood where it was that the man had been coming from and couldn't exactly find himself irritated with the Vice Captain after everything that was said. Even the way that Klara had reacted to the whole thing had been a bit of a surprise... It was good to see that she was finding some kind of inspiration though. The Spirits only know how much of a disappointment Thaddeus must have been when it came to looking for inspirational people. As a Wilhelm, he wasn't really all that much. It was only as a Deacon of the Hoard of Gnome that he had ever managed to thrive. "I've managed to find a bit about one of the snakes that we are quite possibly going to encounter upon reaching the jungles of this expedition. This... Black Mamba. Quite the ferocious being if I say so myself. It is said that if one is bit and poisoned by the creatures venom, that this person will experience pain, paralysis and then death within six hours. If you aren't dead by that point, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if these creatures had tried to eat you alive."
Assuming that this singular creature was going to be one of the many beings that they would encounter within the jungle would have been a mistake. There were various snakes and other jungle inhabiting creatures that would likely appear within their expedition if they hadn't been careful. Not wanting to take too much of a risk when it came to this entire situation, Thaddeus had decided to continue flipping through the book that they had been given. Details about the various jungle inhabiting snakes would be written down within the notepad that Hania had given the Spring Deacon as the group had continued to talk. It was going to take a bit to fully comprehend everything that they might need to prepare for... and Thaddeus wasn't going to just give up on ensuring that his companions were safe. It was far better to be safe and learn as much as he can now than to be sorry later on, if they are to join this expedition and come upon something that they had known little to nothing about.
