Valo was taking his first official mission on alone that was, after his mission with Artemis that went well. He was starting to find it easier to take up jobs, though still at the bottom of the ranking he had what he had to do. It was very annoying though but he couldn't complain none the less, starting at the bottom of the bottom was how it was always going to be for Valo he just had to work his way up and that was something he intended to do no matter what. So he intended to get through these bottom rank jobs as fast as he could. Plus he also was waiting for Artemis to return, with her around she could take him on higher ranked missions that really tested him. But while that was a really good bonus. He didn't want to rely to much on Artemis for his own growth, so this time alone for mission and training would do him well. Despite being the bottom of the bottom he kind of preferred it this way, so he could start to figure things out on his own.
With all that being on his mind, Valo found himself walking casually back to his hometown Kikka but for him this part of Kikka was nowhere near his home or where he was raised. He knew it pretty well but highly doubted that he would run into his old gang. Which gave him a sigh of relief honestly, he didn't want his friends to see his new get up of this tacky old green mantis cloak. Another reminder that he had to do something about it, he had to style it some other way. Believe it or not Valo was pretty peculiar on clothing and looks. Despite his rough bad boy demeanor, he took style very seriously as well as grooming and other things. Which is why under the green mantis cloak he wore a white sleeveless shirt just a bit oversized giving it a slight baggy look. This was matched the slim fitted pants rolled up a few inches above the ankle, to pair with some black boots. He also wore a long silver chain on his neck hoping to distract from the green cloak, and several silver rings on his fingers not to much to over do it but enough to complete the look. His stark white hair was brushed but he left it slightly bushy with the strange just coming above his eyes. To be honest he could do better but, he wasn't looking to be noticed here, this was his hometown after all and it be best for right now he didn't run into a familiar face. His plan was to get the job done, and get out back to base to keep on training. But his was back would be pretty cool if all things turned out well, he would leave with a broom of his own that he could use to just fly back home. And if he acquired a broom he would probably start modifying it as soon as possible, since the broom may have an overall effect on his own appearance.
Valo had his hand stuffed into his pockets as he made his way over to the old man who put out the request, luckily he knew his hometown well and recalled when he was a younger a man that specialized in making brooms. Valo suddenly came to a stop though, and slapped his forehead with his hand in a sudden disbelief. As he remembered his way back to to the old man's store, he also remembered when him and his gang tried to get away with robbing his magical wood. They got caught and each and every one of them had to spend time doing a two weeks worth of volunteering work in order to settle the debt. Valo was much younger when it happened, though that doesn't change much cause he probably still would have done it. But he did also remember the store owner being beyond pissed with them, and always gave Valo and the old gang a scowl when they met eye to eye. But Valo hadn't been around the shop in a few years anyway, so the only thing he could bank on was the old store owner not recognizing who he was. Valo took a deep breath and continued to press on towards the store, before he arrived at the door he peeked into the window and saw it was the same old man from his younger years. He sighed and made it was to the door.
"Hi Old Man!!!" Valo shouted barging into the door with a sudden BOOM! Of course the little act caught the old man off guard, he was middle of prepping a broom but the sudden intro had him on the floor letting out a loud shriek. The loud scream caught the attention of some nearby townsfolk, Valo turned towards them with a wide white smile and both hands with a thumbs up. "Everything is ok here folks, Magic Knight business!" he said towards walking backwards into the store, then closing the door. The old man started to get on his knees, kneeling over his seat starting to get a good look at Valo. "Magic knight?! What kinda- Wait! Oh No! Not You! No Way are you a magic knight!" he said with his voice getting louder and louder with every passing word.
Damn it. Valo was already caught, but perhaps not done for. Lies never hurt anyone. "Aaahhh sorry for my sudden intro. But you may have me mistaken-" Valo started to say before he was cut off. "Ha! Nope! I know exactly who you are. Don't even try it kid! I told myself I'll never forget that white hair of yours! You may taller now but it's you, you can't fool me. With that being said you can leave as well there is no work for you here. I don't know how you became a magic knight, instead of in a jail cell. But aint no work for you here." the old man said abruptly with no hint of compassion in his voice.
Now in the past when situations like this happened, Valo usually did a few things use a threat or blackmail in order to get what he needed. But his old tactics wouldn't work here, especially with him being a magic knight. Valo sighed and his head dropped while thinking of something, anything really that could get him to finish the job. He could just get the wood and deliver it and force the old man to accept it, but that didn't mean the old man would actually consider it completed by Valo himself he could easily give the credit to any other magic knight. Valo needed this job to show on his record, reputation and fame all that stuff kind of mattered not only to Valo but his overall success as a magic knight as well. With that all on his mind Valo started to look around the shop, it was a mess now the old man was indeed...old but Valo remembered he used to take great value in the overall upkeep of the shop. He remembered so well cause Valo used to clean it spotless everyday when they got caught, so he knew something was off. He then took another good look at the old man while he tried to hide it, he had some noticeable bruises on his arm it wasn't hard to put together what could be happening. Now while Valo was indeed a convicted criminal at one point, him and his gang never hurt innocent people. They may have been brutal at some points, but never to an old man trying to make an honest living the most they would do was try and steal just a little bit. There was morality code, an honor system that was followed and whoever did this was not following that code.
"What you still doing here!! Don't make me call the authorities! Magic knight or not if I want you out you get out! Ain't no work for your kind here!" The old man shouted, he was standing now holding some wood in his hand his frail arms kind of shaking. Valo couldn't tell if it was fear, or just old age. Valo put his arms up in the air, trying to show that he was not here to cause any harm. Considering what the old man was probably going through, that was going to be tough. "Alright listen old man I know you ain't going to believe me. Thats granted you got that don't blame you. I was just wanna get the job done, I need to but I can see how that can be tough for you. But you have to be pretty blind to see what's going on here, so I wanna ask why haven't you called the authorities on the guys hurting you and wrecking your shop??" Valo asked walking in the store closer, but just taking small steps to ease himself closer to the old man. From looking at the reaction the old man was giving off, Valo might have been on to something this job might be more then just a simple wood gathering job. The old man looked like he was about to shout again but stopped himself and let out a sigh. "You probably know how this works, I can't they come in take what they want and threaten to do worse if I do go speak to the authorities. Plus they have Rosco my poor boy." he said "Rosco?" Valo asked quickly being just slightly caught off guard.
"Rosco my precious dog! He's more than family to me!" "But why take your dog?"
"Rosco has always been very good at sniffing the wood needed for brooms, they figure instead of stealing from me. They can steal Rosco and he would do the work for them. They said if I told the authorities, they would-they would kill him! So I put out this request to just get some wood in hopes I can buy Rosco's freedom from them. I would give up anything for Rosco anything, its not the store or the wood is just about my dog Rosco." The old man vented, he was probably about to come to tears from it all, something Valo didn't really want to see so he had to make this quick.
Valo grinned looks like he would have to take advantage of the situation at hand, he started to lean on the desk nearby his hands in his pockets. While he did feel for the old man just a little, Valo intended to make good use of the situation and get something out of it. "Alright so tell ya what old man. I get your dog back, perhaps even your wood. All I need you to do is approve I did the job since im actually gonna do it. But I also need you to make a broom for me free of charge. That sound fair enough? Plus I'll handle those goons for ya too, make sure they don't bother ya again. How bout it?" Valo asked him his tone of voice had a hint of greed but with sincerity, he planned on doing what he said no question he wasn't the type to go back on his word. While he awaited the old man's answer he would start to use his thumb and index fingers on his right hand to flick a small little ember flame on and off.
"Fine. I'll let you take the job, just bring Roscoe back. Please." the old man said then let out a deep sigh, perhaps of relief perhaps of more worry. "Yeah. Yeah just make sure you have my broom ready when I get back alright." Valo saying as he was walking out the store, he wanted to be out of that environment quick it was becoming a little to suffocating for him. All the depression and gloom the old man was letting off was never really Valo's style, of course he felt for him a little but Valo never let himself feel a little to much when it came to the heavy emotions he rather just walk the other way and look out for him and his brethren. But now that he officially started the job, that was all he needed. If anything this job got a lot more interesting for him, he thought he was just going to come in chop up some wood deliver it be about his way. But now he gets to kick the crap out no good criminals and because this was his home town he knew exactly who to go see.

No matter what town it is, usually the criminal activities don't start to happen until night fall. When the sun is on it's way down, and the moon start to rise. This is what Valo waited for that perfect sun fall opportunity, for him to start making his moves. Of course he didn't waste the day, he used that valuable time to gather just bits and pieces of info that he needed. Townsfolk were quick to gossip just for the hell of it, of course some prying was needed but it wasn't difficult. He found that this pack of hooligans causing trouble for the old man, was nothing more than that hooligans. Normally running about four members deep, and lead buy a man named Kanan. Kanan and his crew were just a little feared throughout the town, not feared enough to keep people's mouths closed though. Because of that it wasn't hard to find their 'base' of sorts, more of a shack to be honest. Valo got a good look at it from a distance during the day, but now as it was about to be night time he was much closer getting a proper look inside. As he planned the majority of the crew was gone, but there was one member left to most likely hold down the fort. Another mistake leaving just one member behind to watch the base wasn't enough something that Valo could and would easily take advantage of. Considering there was only one member keeping watch, and none of them used any magic Valo thought about just barging in the front...and so he did.
BRRRRRKKAAASSSSHH!! the sound of Valo kicking down the front door was loud and caught the gang member who was supposed to keeping watch off guard. The impact of it all caused him to fall on his back, scrambling to gather himself. Apparently he never thought someone would actually have the guts to barge in like that, that told Valo that these guys were very lax and needed the taste knocked out of their mouths. "Wha-What the?? Do you know who we are?? Who are you?!?! Wait a magic knight!? D-Damn it!!" the man said trying to get to his feet, Valo started to walk in with a wide grin on his face getting a better look at him. Kind of an overweight pudgy fellow, maybe that's why he was left behind. He probably the same age as Valo, but you could guess older from the lack of proper nutrition. Valo took more steps closer, keeping his narrow eyes focused on the gang member cracking his knuckles on each hand. "Doesn't matter who I am. Now are you gonna do what I ask, or am I gonna have to beat the taste of your mouth?" Valo said now standing just about one foot away. Certainly he was intimidating, Valo was tall and could have a vicious look about him when he wanted but he didn't really look like a magic knight at least not a proper one. "You may have that cloak on, but you ain't no magic knight! I'll take my chances!" the pudgy man yelled, squeeing his right hand to tight balled fist. "I-I don't look like a magic knight??!" Valo shouted surprisingly. Valo took great offense to that comment. Why he was by no means shy about being a criminal and gang leader a few months back, he took some pride in being a magic knight mostly because he worked for it. Being a magic knight wasn't an easy task, and the fact that this nobody failed to acknowledge that Valo was indeed one had him boiling with anger. As soon as the young man tried to swing at Valo, he caught his fist with his left hand and without another second going buy landed a wide right haymaker square in the man's nose breaking it most likely on impact. The force of the punch caused the young man to fall on his back again, clenching his nose with drops off blood falling from it. Valo's eyes now filled with anger. "Do I look like a magic knight now!? Huh!?" Valo asked him walking towards him once more, both his fists clenched hard smoke rising from them as with his anger. "M-M-m-m-m MY NOSE!! You broke it!-" the pudgy man squealed.
"I said do I look like a magic knight now!!?" "Yes! Yes! Yes! You do!"
"Good." Valo said unclenching his fist, his fury completed subsided. "Now we can continue to move forward. You gonna tell me where the rest are, or Im gonna have to break something else."
"I don't know what your- " "C'mon now are we gonna play the hard game? Really pig face? You guys are really making this a lot harder for me." Valo said now walking over the pieces of wood they most likely stole from the old man. He picked one up and looked at the young man, with a wicked grin on his face. "W-wait. Please wait! Ok! Ok! Just relax! I'll tell ya- I'll tell yaaaaaaaaaaa!!"
The forest had a very elegant look to it with the light from the moon peeking over it, it was quite the sight. But inside the forrest a middle aged man named Kanan could be found trying to make a stubborn dog sniff out some magic wood for him. Right behind Kanan was his two other goons, one was quite skinny and the other large and broad. Not pudgy like the last gang member left to watch the base but full of home grown muscle. Despite whatever intimidating look these goons might have going for them, if one took a closer look you would see they were a small group of fools and idiots. Luckily the dog was unharmed, but it was a feeling a bit sad being away from his owner for quite some time. But eventually do to the annoyance, and false promises from the gang of idiots Rosco did indeed help them find the magic wood needed to make brooms. Eight pieces of wood cut up and ready to go, do to the work of the three idiots. Considering what they got done, they would consider it a good successful night. That was until their fourth member all tied up and covered in bruises, suddenly arrived at their feet coughing and groining in pain. "Koja?" Kanan the leader said looking utterly bewildered. The other two goons looked over, the same confused look in their face. The big one was carrying the bag full of wood, little did he know he wouldn't be leaving with it.
"I could have waited for you guys to come back to your dumpster of a home base. But Koja there and I really wanted to take the a nice stroll into the woods." the wicked tone of voice coming from above of them. The three would look up to see Valo pirched up on a large tree, all they could see was his eyes and wicked grin. Even Rosco the dog stood up at attention, but his interest died quickly when Valo tossed some dog treat snacks his way. Luckily he picked some up at the home base, despite being idiots they were nice enough to buy some doggy treats for the dog they stole. "Hey! Hey! Listen here! I don't know who you are! But we are not to be messed with you here!" Kanan said the desperation on his voice was obvious he tried to his best to hide it though. But the next thing he saw was his big goon go down with a foot to his face. Valo move pretty quick especially to some untrained idiots like this. With one move he took down arguably the biggest threat there, his foot landed on his nose hearing a satisfying crunch sound. "AAAAAaaaagggghhhh Damn it! Boss! my nose! He broke it! This is not what I signed up for!" With the big guy down the bag of magic wood was free to grab, but Valo wasn't really done with them yet. "That's two noses Ive broken tonight. Although for a big he went down kind quickly no? Perhaps you need recruit some tougher guys. Does no one know how to build a proper gang anymore? So whose nose am I breaking next." Valo said walking towards the two goons that were left. Kanan was trying to hold his composure but he was going to break any second. "Nope screw this! I knew we shouldn't have taken the old mans dog!" his skinny goon yelled out while running away leaving Kanan stranded.
"Wow so wimps, weaklings, and runaways. This is quite some group. It's almost embarrassing you got away with this, but I'll give the old man a break. Now since he ran away I'll just have to break your nose twice." Valo said walking towards Kanan with the same old grin on his face. Kanan paralyzed with fear couldn't even start to run away. "Wa-wait! I'm sorry! I won't do it again. Promise! We'll stop honestly!" Kanan yelped begging on his knees now.
Valo stopped in place, sighing "Well that's no fun. It ain't fun If you don't fight back. Guess I'm getting soft. But I here your bothering the old man or anyone else for that matter, I'll be back and I'm breaking every bone in your body. Go it!" Valo threatened before picking up the bag of wood for him to take back to the old man.
"Ye-yes. Got it. You won't hear from us ever again! Promise." Kanan said whimpering in the same place. "Oh and thanks for cutting up the wood for me, while this was long and annoying it was more fun than cutting up some magic wood. Rosco! Got more treats if you follow me! C'mon boy! It's time to go home." Valo shouted towards Rosco who was still chewing down on his doggy treats. Rosco ran over to his side and Valo picked him up with his free arm right after giving him another doggy treat.
With that Valo started to make his way back to the old man shop, with more wood than asked for and his precious dog Rosco. Valo would consider this a pretty successful job in his mind. Plus to him the most important thing was nobody recognizing him, this part of Kikka was an entirely different part from the side he was raised at. He wasn't ready to say hello to his family yet, he was perfectly fine coming and going without to much of a peep. He definitely planned on coming back when it was time, perhaps when he was more established and well known. So when he made an arrival it truly being recognized. Not while he was just gathering wood for an old man, and beating up some wimpy goons along the way. His come back home had to be more meaningful, or at the very least he had to figure out what he was doing with this green mantis cloak.
Before he knew it he was back in front of the old man's shop, with both his arms being used he kicked the door open. "Aye old man! Ive come back with your dog and some extra wood!" Valo yelled looking around the shop for the old man. He found him on the ground again scrambling do to the sudden arrival of Valo. His dog Rosco ran to his side liking his face. "Oh Rosco! Your back! Thank Goodness!" The old man was full of life and joy again. But all the happiness and joy filling the air was starting to suffocate Valo. He dropped the bag of wood on the floor.
"Remembered what we agreed on old man. I'll I want is a successful job rating, and maybe slide a broom my way free of charge." Valo said leaning on the wall next to the door. "Yes! Yes Of course! You have my word! I'm just happy Rosco is back. I'll prepare any kind broom you want. Free of charge! Thank you so much Kid. You ain't so bad after all." the old man said with gleaming eyes.
Valo smirked. "Ight ight I'll come back for my broom in a few days. Just have it ready all right." he walked out the store and made his way back to base with one successful mission under his belt done.
