It had been a few days before that she had received a summons, from the Golden Dawn's captain no less. It was strange as she herself was merely a junior, surely he would contact higher ranks before contacting someone like herself; it made her feel anxious, she may have done something that he didn't approve of. Her imagination had been running rampant as she went over every plausible reason she could have been called upon to meet Captain Zaven. To make it worse she was to meet him in the forsaken realm, she severely doubted that he would need her as back up, he was a strong mage after all or there would be no way that he would have attained the position he had. It stumped her to the point she would play with her food until she was snapped back into reality by whoever was around at that point. When she was asked if there was something wrong she just smiled sweetly and shook her head a little telling them not to worry, that she was just thinking about something. She ended up being teased that she had a boy on the brain to which her normally pale cheeks went red shaking her head she tried to explain her family hadn't arranged anyone for her to marry. She ignored the teasing as the thought of a relationship and marriage scared her a bit, it hadn't been something she had ever thought about. Who would be interested in someone like her after all? She looked as if she had never really seen the sun, deep emerald eyes, black hair and looked like a living doll, she had been teased about her looks quite a but she had grown a thick skin due to it. Her parents kept reminding her that she was special and beautiful, that those that teased her should eat their makeup so they could be as pretty on the inside as they were on the outside, in time she came to realise that it was likely out of jealousy and their own security that they had done what they did. She forgave them in time with a smile, or at least they thought they did... she never did and she would make them regret it in time, that however would have to take a back seat as she had other things to worry about. Her meeting with Captain Zaven.
Since she had received the letter, she had read the request several times over and by the day came that she was to meet him she had pretty much memorised the damn thing. That day she was wearing a white hanfu with pale mint green trim, a matching choker, her Golden Dawn squad mantle; her hair was somewhat simply with silver and jade ornaments ribbons. She still had no idea how she was going to get to the forsaken realm, she hadn't really gotten used to flying on her own yet. She was so afraid that her magic would falter and she would plummet to her death, it never came to her mind that someone else's might do the exact same thing with the same end result, if she had should have likely sworn off flying completely. It was a fear she knew she would have to overcome sooner rather than later and so she would ask for someone to be there just in case for a while. It was then one of the members of her squad handed her a broom with a smile.
"This is a loaner, for now, just give it back to me when you get back okay?"
Hinota blinked taking the broom from the girl who had offered it to her biting her bottom lip "This is a terrible idea..."
"Well, maybe but it's a long way to the Forsaken Realm and you don't want to keep the captain waiting, so happy travels." The girl said happily waving and quickly moving down the hallway as she was called by the group she was about to head out for a mission with.
Hinota couldn't help look down at the white oak and silver ornate broom, she knew that the girl had been right on both points and if she waited any longer then she might be late so quickly moved outside making the broom hover she sat side-saddle on it. She took a moment to enjoy the warmth of the sun on her face, she truly hoped that the day would be like this for the rest of the day as it allowed her to smell the scent of the flowers nearby on the air. Thanks to her magic she could smell even the most subtle flower scents no matter how many others there were. She looked up feeling her face cooling only to see a dark cloud blocking out the sun and truly hoped that it wasn't a bad omen for the rest of the day. With a deep breath, she started towards the forsaken realm keeping fully aware of her surroundings at all times as she had no sensory, that was honestly something she would have to train up but she could do that over time, for now, she just didn't have the time or so she thought. Though on guard it didn't stop her from quietly singing to herself, she was unsure why she was doing this in all honesty as she had never done it before so thought that it might be due to the fact if she didn't keep her mind occupied the fear of falling would creep in and it would likely happen. It kept her happy regardless so that was something, still, she kept getting more and more nervous as she got closer to her destination, this was going to be the first time since her acceptance that she had seen her captain and due to her own insecurities she thought that she was in trouble. She realised how stupid it was in reality because if she had messed up, surely he would have disciplined her at the squad headquarters so now it made her even more curious as to why she was requested.
[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] The forsaken region of the Clover kingdom was a largely untapped area where all manner of things happened. This included; bandit attacks, rogues hiding out, cells of soldiers left over from the war, to unseen mana beasts, mages practicing their spells, and shadow organizations trying to keep what they do away from the public eye. [break][break]
Zaven found himself at the mercy of the elements as he made his base camp and set up two tents, a fire pit, and a clothes line to dry out clothes. He invited a new recruit...Hinota to join him here. The Golden Dawn had a forward base “i.e. The Cabin” but Zaven wanted to see how she would act out in the wild. The letter told her to meet him at that exact clearing with enough supplies to last her a week for training, and he had hoped she did so...last time he did this it was with Ignis and he ate snakes all the time...Zaven hated that trip so fucking much. [break][break]
The girl seemed to be very down to earth and elegant so Zaven was going to keep it as professional as he could, but in the end he actually caught himself imagining some sort of crazy ass scenario in his head that made him blush. Truth be told though, this was the best way to learn about the recruit since Zaven liked to do his recruiting personally, this one just kind of showed up and he attributed it to the Shattering so he paid it no mind. His reasoning to be there was to train the new spell that showed up in his grimoire...he could not quite pronounce the name yet, but with the mana ebb and flow radiating off the page...it had to be something unique and only for him. So he was waiting there for about two days before finally hearing the telltale echo of a broom cutting through the air close to him. ”Seems that the little healing mage has finally made her way out here...The mana coming from the sky indicates that she is...nervous...this is what happens when I do not remember who comes into my damn squad...I am going to have to etch her into my mind after the initial meeting.” [break][break]
As he would look up into the sky he felt a presence behind him that screamed danger...it seemed as though someone was stalking the Captain, who was now standing shirtless in the clearing, his mantle blew in the wind majestically as he kept his eye to the sky. He felt the sharp killing intent for a moment but then there was nothing...peculiar indeed. ”No use in hiding from me...you might as well give yourself up...I might let you live even if you drop the act…” It looked as if he was talking to himself for a moment before the image of a girl on a broom filled his eyes. He called out to her. ”Miss Yuiee please come down here. The training will probably be starting sooner than I had envisioned!” As he waited he felt the sharp killing intent once more as a rustling behind him alerted him to a great mana beast...it looked like an owl...mixed with a bear? The owlbear charged Zaven, and in his quick thinking he turned around and went toe to toe with the towering beast. ”I don’t know if your edible or not...but let me at least see how you bleed.” Zaven would say as he would receive a nice deep claw wound from the swipe of the owlbear’s great paw, but before it could continue Zaven’s grimoire came up to him as he summoned two shadow daggers and easily sliced the owlbear until it fell dead from its wounds right in the center of their camp. Then the stinging came as he looked down to see that the owlbear had actually left a nice gash across his chest. ”Son of a bitch...this new body had no scars on it…” He groaned as he sat down on a rock beside the fire pit.

With each and every passing second, the young healing mage was getting closer and closer to the area she was to meet her captain for a week of training. So many things ran through her mind, she knew she was still a fifth rank junior of her squad meaning that she had a lot of growing to do but still she was sure that it would have been a senior mage that would have taught her not the captain himself. She hadn't gained a four-leaf grimoire when she went to the grimoire acceptance ceremony the year before, so it wasn't exactly like she was a special case. Still, in the short time, she had been within the Golden Dawn she noticed a severe lack of healing mages at least from what she herself had observed, perhaps that was the reason he had taken an interest in her? She shook her head as she tried to stop her mind from jumping to conclusions, after all the only person that knew what was going through her captain's mind was the captain himself. If she actually gained the confidence then perhaps she could ask him but the thought of that made her shake a little, it wasn't as if her captain was a bad person or intimidating as he seemed to treat each of the people within the squad he commanded fairly; it was more the fact she didn't want to come off as questioning him or his motives as that could end very, very badly in her mind.
Flying above she looked down at the area itself, it was as its name said, completely forsaken by those who were more privileged, she honestly couldn't help but smile as she flew over a village and seen a celebration of some sort happening. 'Even in these less than privileged regions, they find happiness and love with one another, I'm envious.' she thought to herself before noticing markings on the broom that she was flying that she hadn't taken notice of before. There was a note attached that she finally noticed, taking off the paper she began to read it. As fate had it, it would seem like the woman who had loaned her the broom she was currently using had used a high ranking spatial trap spell that would open a one time portal for a short time to grab the supplies she had packed before leaving but was unable to take with her.
"Elenor, why couldn't you have used that to send me here in the first place?" she groaned quietly to herself shaking her head, then again she had told Elenor about her fear of solo flying so she guessed this was her way of trying to help with that.
From the corner of her left eye, she had seen something moving that caught her eye immediately and headed towards it as she thought whoever it was down there could use her help. She would be able to explain to her captain why she had been late, after all, it was his fault for wanting to train in the middle of literally nowhere instead of near civilisation and it was her duty as a magic knight to help any in need. As she got closer she saw it was a strange bear owl hybrid and was starting to wonder if experimentation was happening somewhere. As she got closer she saw the person was male and was wearing a mantle of her squad 'Is that the captain?' she thought watching as it lunged towards her captain and that he had created two daggers made of shadow but it had seemed that instead of being incorporeal they were completely solid and with little effort, her captain had made quick work of his would-be attacker. Without hearing him asking her to come down she had already landed and ran over to him the boom in hand careful not to trigger the spell early.
"CAPTAIN!" she ended up calling out semi loudly, her tone showed that she was worried about the one she was training with. Of course, rationally she knew this was nothing more than a minor annoyance to someone of his standing, the problem was she wasn't thinking rationally she just seen someone injured.
Her grimoire opened to one of the few new spells that she needed to train upon her eyes quickly reading over the spell 'I'm unsure if this will work, but here it goes.' she thought to herself as she lowered the broom to the ground gently before standing taking a deep breath, her eyes grew slightly brighter. She brought her hands to herself clasping as if praying the glowing from her eyes now bright enough that it could be seen through her eyelids as she slowly let her breath out as she did the air around her started to smell like strawberry-mango as she released a miasma from her mouth. Though it wasn't something that could really be seen the scent would seemingly wrap itself around her intended target if it worked as it said in her grimoire then it would ease any pain the one it was being used on. It was more than that though, it was meant to stimulate the natural healing of another while attempting to clear any hexes, curses, venoms or poison that might be held within the wound itself. Before long the glowing of her eyes dulled and she opened her eyes her hand going to her head as she felt a bit light-headed, it was then she noticed that her captain was topless. Quickly she turned her back to him her cheeks a deep red.
"I... I... I hope that helps captain, b... but um... c... could you p... put a top on captain? I... I... um... my upbringing..." she stuttered the entire time unable to really make a complete sentence without putting a lot of effort into each word but even then she was tripping over her own words, she could only imagine how bad this made her look in his eyes.
[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] He heard her voice call out for him, though a little impersonal by just calling him captain, but that was to be expected since he had literally just asked her to come to no man’s land for training. He leaned against the rock looking down to see the blood seeping from the wound, it wasn’t deadly...but it was troublesome if they were to train while he had that wound...he was fully prepared to do so as he watched her begin to descend. [break][break]
As she landed and came up to him, he gave a little sigh as she looked at his wound then spoke that she may know a spell that could fix this, Zaven was a curious fellow as the moment she landed and spoke to him she brought out her grimoire and her eyes began to shine, something that attracted him to the young mage now began to cast her spell. It looked beautiful as the young lady had a glow that was attractive to his mana...he was breathing hard for a moment, feeling anxious as he sighed once he felt a warmth wash over him while watching Hinota. [break][break]
“That smells delicious Hinota...strawberries and...mangos…two of my favorite scents...that is absolutely wonderful. Thank you.”. He said as she released a miasma through her breath. He inhaled the miasma and breathed deeply the sweet fragrance that was apparently a trademark of her spell. The Shadow of Dawn looked down after a few moments to realize that his wound had already begun to heal and the blood clotted and scabbed over before the flesh began to reattach itself, soon leaving a fresh pink scar across his chest. He was a bit sore but otherwise good as new. ”this is fantastic...your magic is absolutely incredible!”. He said as she spoke up about his being shirtless in front of her. His eyes grew wide as he shot up like a rocket and made his way to the clothesline he set up. ”S-Sorry Hinota...I did not mean for you to see me like this…. Zaven said as he pulled the shirt over his head, it settled on his torso before he came back to the clearing. [break][break]
”Well now...that was exciting, wasn’t it? Well here we go, this is a pretty basic camp that we will call home for the next week while we are here at the Forsaken Region. We will be training your close combat skills, survival techniques, and general basic training for when we get back to headquarters. Once we are home you will hopefully be able to use all that you have learned to further your advancement in the ranks of Knighthood.”. Zaven finished his little speech as he came around to hopefully face to face with Hinota again. Now that I have explained this to you...is there any questions you have for me?” he asked with a smile...the Golden Dawn Captain was just as eager to be here as he was to fight the owl bear.

She knew she was being impersonal when she had called out to him, but this wasn't exactly a social call now was it. He had dragged her out of the warmth and comfort of the squad headquarters to train in the middle of nowhere, she was pretty sure she was going to be too paranoid to sleep out here. She didn't have any sensory and every small noise would wake her due to this, she wouldn't know if it was benign, friend, foe or anything else. She didn't understand why they couldn't have been at one of the cabins but orders were orders and so she was in the middle of a place even the gods had forsaken. Now if he had met her in a park and told her to call him by his name as they were equals in that moment she would be a bit reluctant but she would concede to the request that had been given to her due to the informal setting. This, of course, hadn't happened and so like she had been taught she would remain formal towards Zaven as he was her superior. Even if he was to ask her to be less formal with him how could she do such a thing? There was still the chain of command to consider, she had been raised to respect her superiors and to call them their titles but now she had to wonder, would it always been that way? Did she have to remain formal at all times or would there be a time she could relax and just be herself? That was a future conversation with herself she would have to have no doubt.
Before long the miasma came to an end, her hands remained clasped close to her chest but the glowing of her eyes slowly started to fade as the scent of the miasma began to fade. It was only when it had completely dissipated that she had opened her eyes. A gentle smile once again on her face as she listened to how the spell smelt like two of Zaven's favourite scents, her eyes turned to her grimoire and she slightly quirked her left eyebrow just a little. It was like some higher power was playing some sort of sick joke on her, there was no way she, herself, could know that spell contained two scents that made him happy. She had three spells that needed training, of course only two of the three were healing from what she read but she did have one already known that she could have used but she decided to use the one she had. It was a bizarre turn of events indeed.
She could have turned and looked at him but he was topless and this wasn't something that she was use to, in fact, she was raised to the fact the only male form she should see out of any sort of clothing was that of her husband should she marry. Who was she kidding, she was pretty sure her parent's had already made an arrangement and she knew better than to argue the fact with them, it was tradition after all. She remained quiet putting her hands out to collect her grimoire as Zaven himself now realised that he was half-naked after she pointed out to him by stuttering and stumbling over her words.
"Th... There is n... no reason to be... to be sorry ca... captain" she continued to stutter unable to get the sight of his form out of her head.
This was really a bad thing as she was going to be around him for two weeks straight and was pretty sure she would see more of his form. It wasn't so much that his form was displeasing to her if it was wouldn't be stumbling over her words and feeling the warmth from the blush in her cheeks. She could already see the disapproving looks and lectures that would come when her parents found out but that was a problem for the future Hinota to worry about, current Hinota just had to worry about getting through this two weeks of training. Hearing him moving off she counted slowly to ten before turning around to see him with his shirt back on which made her happy and disappointed all at the same time, it truly was a strange sensation. In honesty, she didn't like these muddled feelings, she much-preferred order as it made things simple and clear but life was rarely that way, it was often chaotic and messy she would just have to deal with it.
"I'm glad you enjoyed the healing captain, it is one of the spells that turned up in my grimoire recently, I'm pretty sure with a bit more practice I could use it on more than one target at a time." she said looking down to the grimoire in her arms "There is nothing special about my magic captain, it's not like it's a four-leaf grimoire I carry." It was clear she didn't care if her magic wasn't the strongest, she was happy with the one she had received hers, her parents in fact were proud of the one she had gained.
When he talked about it being exciting she looked at the owl bear's dead carcass with sorrow filled eyes, she shook her head at the comment "No. No, it was not captain." It was as simple as that to her, of course, the owlbear was the aggressor but this was likely its territory.
"What if it had young?" she asked him, it was clear she wasn't happy at the death of another being, more so since there where other ways it could have been dealt with that didn't end in death.
She listened to what would be trained while she was there and tilted her head as if confused "Captain, I am not a combatant like that. I'm a support mage, I'm sure my healing spell showed that." she sounded as confused as she looked "I'm not fighter Captain, if I was I would have likely been more suitable to the crimson lions, I am here because I believe I can make a difference with my skill set." she said moving to pick up the broom she came here with making sure to avoid the runes on it.
"Elenor placed Spatial magic trap on the broom that will open a portal for a short time allowing us to get the supplies I had prepared before I made the journey here." she explained to him knowing eventually that, that subject would be brought up eventually so offered up the information freely.
[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] Hearing her stutter was...adorable to say the least. Her tone was nervous but ever since they first met at the hanging gardens in the Royal City...she was nervous like this around him and to be honest it almost was alluring to him in a way that he wanted to continue to make her stutter. However the topic was simply moved on from as she said for him not to worry about it. She spoke about being able to heal more than one person at a time if she had more training and then said that she was glad that he enjoyed the experience. To which Zaven was about to reply when she retorted that it was nothing special and it was not like she was walking around with a four leaf grimoire. He was about to roll his eyes when she moved on, tracing her gaze to the Owl Bear that attacked him...she was filled with a sorrow that to him, was unwarranted...but it was mainly because he could not understand the reasoning for the sorrow of something that attacked him. He gave a soft sigh, he was not unhappy with her words of how she expressed worry over the fact that the creature may have had young. He paused at that thought, could this have been a female protecting her territory...or perhaps a male looking for a mate, it was spring after all here in Clover and it was likely that all animals...including humans were looking to start that next generation by finding a partner. [break][break]
Her next retort brought him to stiffen up as she spoke about not being the type for close quarters combat, claiming she would have joined the Crimson Lions if she wanted that. To which he finally could not stand by. ”Surely you must think that the five year war, culminating in the battle of the shining palace was someplace where only the combat specialists were involved. I remember walking into a triage unit that was...defiled by an enemy mage, there was nothing the support mages could do but try to run...I am not only duty bound to stop that from happening should a time come where war comes to Clover again...but I don’t want my people to be in a situation where they cannot defend themselves.” He explained as his face turned serious, a pained expression behind those azure eyes. When she said that she had a spatial seal on a note for supplies on her broom Zaven nodded as he looked to the owlbear. ”Please grab some rations and whatever gear you may think you need...I am going to go and bury this creature...and pray for it and I will be back.” The look on his face was not cold, but he looked as if he was too pained to continue that last memory. [break][break]
Zaven easily dragged the owlbear from the campsite, leaving Hinota there, but never fully letting her leave his sensory range as he wanted to bring the carcass far enough from the camp that other beasts do not come looking around there. A suitable spot was soon found just at the edge of his sensory range, he quickly pounded on the dirt, using his shadow mana to encapsulate his hands as he dug a pit 2 meters deep by 1 meter wide. He jumped out of the hole before looking to see that there were a couple of wolves already at the edge of this clearing. He flared up his mana to scare them away as a light whimper hung in the air from the pair of beasts. Zaven sighed before dragging the owlbear to the pit and tossing it inside. He then buried it, placing some stones around the burial site before sitting on the fresh earth to meditate on what had happened. ”The gods that preside over nature and command the law of such it is I, a humble servant of the flesh...I am returning a creature to you, one that tested me in bettle and gave its life so that I could get stronger to protect the ones I care for.” He began as his mind drifted to Hinota again, he did not try to drift back away, but her sorrowful expression was enough for Zaven to sober up and continue on with his prayer meditation. [break][break]
He returned about two hours later, looking dirty again, smelling of fresh earth, the shadows had cleansed the earth around the campsite of the stench of death and now a neutral fragrance hung in the air. He was sweaty and he needed to change. For now though he took to grabbing a waterskin of his and he pulled the cork off before taking a long drag from it. ”The beast has been returned to the earth. I apologize for my earlier words about it...but I do not take back my words of being ready for anything. It is our duty as knights to ensure that the people are always safe. Do you regret joining me here, or with the Golden Dawn Hinota...I need to know this before we go any further.” His question was stated almost more as a statement and he awaited an answer as he stood in front of his tent without saying another word.

She had remained quiet unsure what to do, she had no idea what was going through her captain's head at current. She knew that the owlbear had been the aggressor, she had seen that much from the air but still, surely there was a way its life could have been spared. It was barbaric to her after all the chances were that it was the home of the now-departed animal. She tried to remind herself he had to kill it or he himself would be killed but she still just couldn't justify it in her mind when there where other options available to him. The pitiful beast was merely doing what was in its nature as far as she could tell. They didn't know the reasons it attacked as she had already voiced it may have had young that it believed would be harmed or were under threat, of course, there was the time of year and everything that came with that or it may have been foraging for food and Zaven himself had just selected a terrible place to set up camp. In honesty, she would have thought he would have checked around to make sure they wouldn't have been disturbing the local wildlife, seems that wasn't the case and it had caused a death that could have been otherwise avoided but what could she really do now? It was dead and there was no way she was able to heal something that had already given up its spirit to the gods above but now she truly did worry that it did have young and how they would survive without someone to give them for and protect them.
She tried to get it out of her head but she just couldn't, her hands clenched tightly to the point she drew blood from her own hands, she hadn't even noticed the pain she was going through due to the self-inflicted wounds she was causing. 'It didn't have to be that way! He could have restrained it! He could have knocked it out! HE COULD HAVE DONE ANYTHING THAT DIDN'T END IN ITS DEATH!' her inner voice filled with sorrow and anger.
As she closed her eyes they now weeping tears of inky black viscous liquid as a less than pleasant aroma started to form around her, her miasma showing its true nature for the very first time. It wasn't sweet-smelling as it had always been, it was rancid, foul and reeked of death, clearly out to do something terrible, something the normally gentle, kind and warm-hearted Hinota would never be capable of as she obviously cherished life dearly. Her eyes opened suddenly and looked directly at Zaven, her gentle eyes were gone, instead, her eyes were pure black with a deep royal blue iris the centre was a deep blood red pupil. Everything she was, was no longer there. It was like looking at a completely different person, to make it worse her grimoire wasn't even open so this wasn't an active spell she knew or should know. She said absolutely nothing allowing the miasma to start enveloping the entire campgrounds quickly, she honestly cared nothing for anything around her and it was clear as she listened to the area around them once filled with noise now became silent. The red blood bleeding from her hand now being affected by the miasma changing to become the same black inky colour that was falling from her eyes.
"I am fully aware of the war, my father and mother fought in it to protect everything they held dear because of the idiotic wants, desires and greed of others." her voice was cold, emotionless "I know how brutal it was, I see the wounds both emotional and physical they gained from the ordeal." her eyes didn't move, she hadn't even blinked once from the time she had opened them "Animals kill because it is in their nature. They do it to protect their families, territories and to eat. Humans... we harm and kill for sport, power, wealth and land... we are a plague that should be wiped out." again her voice was cold and uncaring it was like a switch had been flipped in the young woman, a very dangerous switch.
She listened as he continued to speak and tilted her head ever so slightly to the right "Is that how you see me?" She asked her voice blunt "A weak little girl that can not look after herself because she values lives and believes that there is always another way?" her voice was slightly harsher the miasma growing thicker as the royal purple irises of her eyes began to glow. "I can defend myself without the need to take the life of another living being and without the need to go hand to hand with my enemy captain." her voice was still cold and harsh like she wasn't going to budge from her point, she knew at times damage would need to be done to do it so she couldn't argue that fact and so wasn't going to.
Soon enough the glow began to fade and her hand went to her head she stumbled a little on her feet to the point she fell to her knees, the miasma's scent quickly fading as her normal deep forest green eyes returned. She had no idea what had just happened, she felt like she was trapped in a black box and kept distant from a conversation she couldn't even remember.
She looked to the other for a moment unsure of what had happened but remembering he said that she should get the supplies, the problem was her body wasn't moving for her "I... I will when... when my body will respond captain." her voice was small, weak, she was clearly confused and tired.
She had no idea of the attack she had unleashed on her captain and so had no idea that she may have hurt him, she just watched as he pulled the poor creature away tears falling from her eyes as she never wished to see such a thing again. She never wanted to feel that anger again. It had taken her a while before she could move properly but when she was able to she did as was instructed of her and got their supplies only stopping a few moments before Zaven himself returned. She looked down as he spoke, she knew the duty of a magic knight and understood it or she wouldn't have become one herself but then he asked her two questions she wasn't ready for. It wasn't something she had at all thought about since the day he had given her, her mantle and now he had put her on the spot. For a long moment, she closed her eyes and thought over everything she had experienced since the day she met him, for the most part, it was nothing too bad but today it had put a few things in perspective.
Her hands went to her mantle as she removed it "Yes." the way it had sounded was that she wasn't fit for this life and perhaps she wasn't, perhaps her parents were right at the end of the day, that she should just settle down. She neatly folded the mantle and placed it down on a nearby log with her key atop of it. She didn't touch the broom, it wasn't hers but someone's from inside the Golden Dawn and started to walk away without another word. She wasn't even too sure which direction home was but she would find her way back.
[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] Zaven heard her speak, The poison practically dripped from her words as he stopped at the carcass of the Owlbear. He turned around as he felt the immense magical pressure from Hinota. He began to walk towards her as she spoke that there could have been another way, leaving Zaven to think that perhaps his choice in words was not the best at that time. He felt it then, as the miasma emitting from her began to make the air thick, his lungs took in the poisoned air, making the Captain choke as he winced in pain. ”The fuck was this…” He said to himself as Hinota began to talk again, a darker tone to her voice as she spoke. The wound under his shirt from the beast began to burn, he quickly looked down to see the healing magic she placed on him was dissipating and twisting...the mana now began to burn and put off a black smoke as the wound reopened, feeling like stitches being pulled from a baseball. He wanted to yell out in pain, but he did not do so as he had experienced much worse than this. He began to walk towards the young woman slowly. The Miasma made the grass turn, the wood to rot...his clothes to decay in a way that was unnatural. He was curious at this as she spoke about how her family was very active in the war effort...the emotional and physical wounds left over. [break][break]
She was like him...there existed another side of her that she kept hidden, her feelings...her true thoughts that she did not speak...she was expressing them now with a magical specification that he did not know she possessed. [break][break]
“Hino...ta...Please ca...lm y-yourself.” Zaven spoke as he continued to breathe hard, wincing from the pain as his wound had fully reopened now and blood poured forth from the area like a siv. The gods be damned...he was going to die in the Forsaken Region after all...Fucking fortune teller was right this entire time… ”HINOTA...STOP!” He would yell out, hearing her continue at how she perceived him to see her. It was wrong, he did not see her as weak, but he did see her as raw...now he saw her as dangerous...for others, himself...even her own life may be in jeopardy if she continued with this. [break][break]
He was now within 2 meters of her standing position. She did not stop as the Miasma now hun in the air like a bog that had been cursed by some unnatural presence. He knew that staying in that place for much longer was a death sentence, even for him., so he decided it was best to at least try and reason with her. ”Hinota stop...please. hear my voice...come back to me, this...is not you...”. He would manage to choke out, getting about .5 meters to her before he saw the miasma kind of snap to clear, the sudden change caused his oxygen levels to plummet as his eyes rolled into the back of his head and he fell to his knees. His chest wound had reopened and blood exploded forth finally now that he was not conscious enough to keep up his mana skin, the blood quickly saturated his shirt and the ground below him. He was quiet and unmoving...his chest slowly rose and fall to a weak heartbeat. [break][break]
The sun would begin to dip over the horizon...if Zaven was not tended to in a hurry...there would likely be permanent damage if not something more dire. What would the new Golden Dawn mage do facing this situation.

The young doll-like mage hadn't moved an inch from where she had been standing, her black eyes kept its focus solely on Zaven, she was fully aware of what was happening around her but she remained composed and unmoved by the plight that she was causing. It was like everything she had shown to be was just a facade, a mask and this was the true woman that she was; vindictive, hateful... wrathful. The only thing that may offset what the other might have made the other think differently would possibly be the inky black viscous tears that kept falling from her eyes and trickling down her face leaving eerie trails on her otherwise pale skin, the problem, of course, was that it was a side effect to the spell that was currently active. She heard the surprise in his voice as he likely felt the magic flaring from her before the scent of the spell reached his nose but said not a word to him, even in her current state she wasn't going to treat him like the moron she currently thought he was.
As far as Hinota herself was aware she had never been angry up until that point, annoyed sure but never once had the desire to make the world burn or hurt someone to get her point across. It was a feeling that disconcerted her true self and made her beg from deep within her currently fractured and tortured soul for the spell to stop and for her captain to put her out of her misery. She didn't want to be like this. She had no desire to harm, maim or kill anything, she cherished life and it showed within her gift of healing. Though the other wouldn't know it she was trembling from seeing what this beast that had taken over her body was making her do. She had no idea how she could come back from this darkness, how she could remain a knight after what she was currently doing. Her head was so light, it felt like it was fogging over the longer this was going on and she had no idea as to why.
"How does it feel knowing that you are dying at an increased rate without another person caring?" she asked her voice still dripping of vile hatred towards the one she wanted to hurt.
"Is it painful? Do you feel fear?" she continued almost as if she was mocking and taunting him on the matter of his impending fate at her hands.
It was clear when he pleaded for her to calm her emotions that she was nowhere near ready to do such a thing, she wanted him to suffer and die slowly by her hands. At current, she was a danger to everyone and everything around her, if one of the Clover Kingdom's enemies could get ahold of her and brainwash her they could easily weaponize against her homeland if she wasn't curved and trained to control her potential; she was only at the beginning of her journey as a mage and she was already able to potentially end life and this power would only get stronger as she continued down her path. This was something that would scare her when she actually had the full function to calm her mind and think on it, right now she was trying to regain control of her own body.
She cared little of the plight she was causing on him even as he yelled for her to stop "Why should I? Would you?" was the only thing she would ask the fallen captain.
She watched him stagger towards him, she expected no less as he was a captain after all and he wasn't just any captain but one of the strongest amongst the elite group. "I have..." her hand went to her head the black tears clearing for a short second as flowers started to flow from her and the miasma flickered between foul-smelling and it's normal sweet-smelling self as if she was fighting between what she wanted and who she was. It was after a few moments she fell to her knees crying as her miasma cleared completely, her head was foggy but light at the same time. Her eyes darting around the area seeing the decay and destruction around her shaking unable to take in everything around her. When her eyes met her unconscious captain she quickly scrambled over to him but found she couldn't stand so scurried over on the ground.
"Captain! Captain!" she called to him frantically her hands delicately going onto his body as she shook him.
After touching his chest she felt something warm on her hands and so brought it up her eyes going wide as she fell back in fear trying to make some distance between herself and him. She was frightened at this entire scene, it was like some sort of horror story she heard her father speak of in the past and now found herself wondering if she was one of those monsters. She started to creep forward the black tears being washed away by her normal clear ones, she moved to hug him close to her body her grimoire opening and flicking to a certain page. Underneath and around the pair an oversized lotus blossom seemed to form, the scent that came from the flower was that of crisp clean water as if trying to get rid of anything of harmful in the air. She cared little for her own appearance or life she just wanted him to get better, the issue was where she was sure like her other healing spells it could remove hexes, curses, toxins and venoms she was unsure if it would remove the deathly miasma from the captain fully as she wasn't as strong as whatever it was that had caused all the harm around them. She did watch as the skin started to stitch back together but to what extent she wasn't so sure, only time would tell.
"Please captain, please forgive me..." it was clear she was scared and confused as to what had happened but guessed she was its cause.
[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] ”Dying does not scare me...it means I get to rest, and the thing is...it's not so bad when you die...I have been there and back…” He spat out blood as he tied desperately to hold on to consciousness…”Do I feel fear...yes...I feel it...every day I leave the headquarters...I fear I will be unable to fight back my own demons...like this...I might kill someone innocent, or be unable to protect someone that is relying on me. But I will not give in to that fear...it is my duty to protect the kingdom.” He said, as he continued to plead with her...he held back his power when he could have just ended this right when it began, but seeing as she seemed to have some sort of transformation...he was not going to kill her for something she could not control. Then when she replied asking if he would...Zaven just gave a soft smile as a reply as he finally passed out. He chose in his final moments of being awake to still defy all that was trying to kill him. [break][break]
While blacked out he began to recount the events. The owlbear attack was unexpected for sure, but he fought the damn thing with his own life on the line as well...the wild did breed ferocious creatures after all he should have been better prepared. Fuck he was an idiot for not just using his mana to scare the creature away, but then again...this allowed him to see something he probably would have overlooked had this little training session did not take place. [break][break]
Back in the real world he was actually bleeding out. Blood ran from his eyes and nose as well as his chest. His clothes became frayed, and it stood to question...why did he not simply just block this...why did he not just stop her. Even after she came to his side, the Captain did not wake up fully. Moments turned to minutes...minutes to hours...and nightfall would come to their ruined encampment. [break][break]
When he finally woke up he sucked in a large gulp of air before wincing in pain as he felt the scar on his chest throbbing with pain...he sighed before leaning up against a rock that was not damaged. He looked around for Hinota, eventually seeing her as his eyes adjusted, finding her still beside him. He gave a reassuring sigh before placing his left hand on her shoulder. ”Hinota...you can’t leave here...not until we figure out what just happened.” He said as he faded for a moment, a wince later from the sharp pain on his chest he just took his shirt and ripped it with minimal effort. ”Why did you react like that...is this a normal thing for you?” He asked another question, somewhat displeased with this turn of events but he was still a captain, and he was alive...his job was not yet over. Whatever her answers were he would just shake his head and lean his head against the rock. Hinota...we will stay here as long as it takes until you can learn to control whatever it is that is inside you...even if that means we stay here for months...I can’t let you leave here…Not like this” He said weakly as he surveyed the area. He had now failed for the second time as a captain...he did not want to make a habit out of it.

By the time he had answered the young woman's questions she was fighting within herself to try and get control of her body once more so didn't hear a single word he had said to her. It would have been quite the thing if she had heard him as each side of the fractured doll-like mage would have reacted differently, the darker side would have delighted in the fact he felt fear but rolled her eyes at the reasoning behind it while the calmer more gentle side would admire him even more for his words but it was something that seemed to fall on deaf ears at current. It was just as Zaven finally collapsed and his consciousness left him that Hinota's true self, managed to crawl from where it had been stuck her eyes had instantly gone wide as she had no idea what happened but looking to the area around them she didn't think she wanted to know, she instantly felt fear and the want to run to get help but she had no idea where the hell she was, she didn't feel comfortable on a broom by herself and with an unconscious body, she didn't trust herself not to drop him. There was, of course, the spatial trap on the broom but she didn't know if moving Zaven would be the most logical option and if she went through the portal might close by the time she got help. Then there was the fact that spatial magic was rare and Elenor was on a mission with some others and with her not knowing the forsaken region there would be no way to direct help to their current location but then there was also the fact Zaven might have passed by the time help arrived.
She ran over to Zaven and quickly knelt looking over his form, his clothing was tattered and rotted, she could only bite her bottom lip as she had used her lotus casket spell. She didn't know how much damage he had sustained but she could tell whatever had harmed him was powerful her eyes looked around tears falling from her eyes and down her cheeks, she was scared as she had no idea if what had caused this was still around and with it becoming darker by the minute it wasn't helping her any. She watched Zaven from inside the lotus her hand going to her head as she could tell it was draining far too much mana from her.
"I can't hold this for too long, there needs to be a better way to cast it." she said to herself, her hands remaining on her captain's chest to try and stop the bleeding that was happening from his chest.
"Please... please work... please fight captain..." she sobbed begging him to remain with her, her eyes looking around as she continued hearing noises from all around them knowing she was at the mercy of the world around her as she wasn't a fighter.
Her magic had almost drained several times but she made sure to keep enough to use her restraining if needed while she waited for her mana to recover, she didn't leave his side the entire time and done her best to help the healing by putting pressure on the wound. The entire time she was praying to the gods and to the fates to allow him to wake and be fine, she looked at her blood-soaked hands and realised that if someone saw her right now then they may get the wrong idea about the whole situation. She had used the fabric of her own clothing to clear the blood from his face not caring that she had ruined it, she knew if her parents saw her current state there would be serious words but she didn't have to worry about that at current, that was her future self's problem, her current self's problem was her dying captain and having no idea if her healing spell had been doing anything to help him at all.
When she saw his eyes finally flutter open and hearing the large gulp of air that he drew in she let out a sigh of relief before backing away to a good distance not wanting to be to close for some reason, every fibre of her being was telling her that she shouldn't get to close to him but that wasn't before he had put his hand on her shoulder telling her that she couldn't leave the place that looked like things within her nightmares at least not until they worked out what had caused the destruction of the area. It made her wonder if he also didn't know what happened, had he been blind sighted by the enemy and almost given his life to protect her? That made her feel even worse, she could have been the reason that he almost died, she now really did believe that she should have listened to hare parents and just settled down to have a family of her own with the person they had likely already picked out for her but she was too headstrong and stubborn at that point to realise that they had been doing it because they knew she wouldn't be able to do the job that they and her elder brother had been doing efficiently. She now wondered why Zaven had even offered her a position within the Golden Dawn in the first place, surely he would have seen her flaws on the first day they had spoken within the hanging gardens but he had still given her a mantle regardless. It confused her to no end and she was pretty sure this wasn't exactly the right time to ask him about it.
She watched him fade out for a moment before coming back seemingly in pain, she watched as he tore his top as if it was nothing more than tissue paper, she seen his blood-covered chest with the black scar within the middle of it and it scared her to the point she pulled back a bit more trembling in fear of it. Her eyes went back to look at his face as he asked a few questions and was met with a puzzled and very confused look as if she had genuinely no idea what he was talking about.
"Why did I act like what? Is what a normal thing for me?" her voice was shaking and beyond soft-spoken, it was if she was afraid to be heard by anyone.
She watched him shake his head before he said something even more puzzling to her "Control what is inside of me?" she visibly trembled as she spoke those words
"I've never lost control Captain Zaven." she said in a timid voice, as far as she knew she never had lost control and even if she ever had she was a healer and the chances of her harming anyone was none existent.
"You asked me if I regretted my decision, I gave my answer. I will return home, there is a trap spatial spell on the broom next to my mantle. It will get you home so you can get proper care." she said gripping the skirt of her blood-soaked hanfu, she would wait for him to go and then she would make her way home and concede to her families wishes.
[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] Hearing her answer his questions he became aware of what just happened...she did not remember exactly what just happened with her own body. He raised a curious eyebrow before scooting closer to her, wincing through the pain he would grab her shoulder if she was not looking at him and turn her around to look into his eyes. If she truly did not remember he would be able to tell with this one look. As he looked at her...he found his answer and his look softened. His hard azure eyes looked softer as he let go of her, she truly had no recollection of what happened except for the aftermath of the event. [break][break]
“We will not be returning home. Not for the foreseeable future anyway, so when you move to grab that seal I can assure you...I will already have it in my grasp. Your power is raw, and untapped. Mages go through this every so often with their latent magical power, but yours...is something special...to be able to strike me down is no easy feat yet you did so before I could even have time to develop a proper plan to combat what was put in front of me. No Hinota Yuiee...you will be staying here to learn about your power sleeping inside of you and learning to get a grip on it. You may try to fight me if you wish, but I now know what is going on...I will not fall for the same trick twice….” Zaven said in a serious tone as he looked at her with his soft eyes. He was worried about the young lady in all honesty...the way she spoke resembled something like the daemons he once fought. There was a terrible darkness hidden away inside of her, and it needed to be tamed otherwise she might become a danger to others, exploited by some outside force...or become a danger to herself which he also did not want. [break][break]
”I am sorry if you think this is unfair, but in my eyes if we go back now and you try to run...I will have to find you again anyway. If you stay here...you become stronger in your control and learn to eventually harness a greater power lying dormant. You can protest...you can fight me on this, but consider this your punishment. You may be a part of the Golden Dawn...you may have a family, but since you healed me, injured me to the brink of death, then healed some of the wounds...you are duty bound to me now...If I feel you are not worth the effort...I will turn you back to your parents and let them know exactly what happened and how they should deal with you...but I brought you here first to train regardless of what has now happened and we will be finishing what we started...So for starters...we need to find a new place to camp...shelter is first priority before we move on to the other aspects of training. It looks like we will be needing whatever supplies you have left in that storage seal to last as long as we can. So let us get a move on.” He would say as he would try to stand up, only to sink back down against the damned rock. He would sigh as he would look up, he was not used to being this weak again.

Hinota continued gripping her hanfu's skirt tightly her eyes looking at the dead earth below her, she had no idea what had gone on in this place. It was fine one moment and in the next, it was like a horrible plague had swept over the encampment destroying everything in its way, she wanted to know how that was even possible. She was unharmed were her captain seemed to have been grievously injured from the unseen force, if it harmed him surely she should have been dead, it didn't make any sense to her at all. It was like she was in a waking nightmare and she wasn't sure if she could escape from it. She had been so deep in her thoughts about the entire situation that she hadn't noticed Zaven move closer to her until she felt his grip on her shoulder where she instinctively flinched and gasped a bit due to being startled. Soon she was being moved to look him in the eyes and turned her eyes away shaking a little really not wanting to look in those normally stern azure eyes. She could feel as if he was trying to read her for something, she was too afraid to ask him why he was burrowing deep into her soul but was sure he would let her know soon enough.
From the corner of her left eye, she noticed that his own gaze has softened, she had no idea if it was because she was scared or if it was because he had found the answers he was looking for. Regardless he had let her go at least, for now, to which she scurried away from him trying to keep her distance, she still had no idea why she was doing such a such thing but something deep down was telling her she should be nowhere near him. She just looked down once more gripping her hanfu skirt once more it was clear that she was scared but didn't know how to voice what was on her mind. Hearing his words her head rose as she looked at him in shock being told that she wouldn't be permitted to return to her family anytime soon.
"Captain Zaven, you can not keep me against my will." she commented in return to the first part of his statement, as far as she was concerned she wasn't wearing the mantle of the Golden Dawn so she wasn't a member of it. She knew that her family didn't allow such ways out but Zaven himself had been the one to ask her the question that had let to her removing it.
She stood and moved quickly to the broom and picked it up her eyes going to the spatial seal on it "Please use this to get back to your squad headquarters, I can't heal that wound on your chest it is far higher than what I'm capable of dealing with at my current strength." she said holding it out to him by the very end maintaining distance.
He was badly hurt and she knew as much so it stood to reason that he should use it to get healed, sure it was true that she didn't know the forsaken region to well but she could get directions and find her way back home eventually. She would explain o her parents what happened from her recollection and agree to marry who they decided because it was clear she wasn't fit for the life she had decided to take when she wanted to rebel against her parents. It was clear everything her elder brother 'said' was indeed true, she was just a fool for not realising until someone had got injured due to her incompetence, or at least in her mind and to her knowledge this was the case. She was going to meet punishment for being a burden to her former captain to the point he got injured to protect her. She was ready for that and would accept it without argument because to her they would be within their rights to do so.
She closed her eyes and shook her head as she was told that her magic was raw, that just couldn't be she had complete control over the magic she had, healing came to her like a duck to water and her restraining... well... she was still strong in it but it took a little more practice than healing did. She had no idea what he was talking about her latent power, as far as she knew everyone had dormant aspects of their magic, of course, somewhere stronger than others in it and there were some that never reached their full potential. She knew she was one of those who would meet hers given the right circumstances but she didn't believe it was something that could do harm to anyone. Her magic had manifested in healing and restraint so why would she think or believe that it would ever do anything else? She did take note that Zaven seemed firm in his belief that whatever he had been through said otherwise but then she believed him delirious due to the pain he was currently going through.
She looked up from her hanfu skirt in sheer terror as she was told that she had been the one to harm him in such a terrible way, tears started falling from her eyes instantly as she shook her head covering her ears. 'No, no... he must be mistaken... I... I'm a healer, I don't have offensive spells. I... I favour life... I... I can't... I can't... ' she thought to herself her mana flaring due to the conflicting emotions her breathing becoming laboured as she began to have a panic attack over what she was being told.
Even if what he was telling her was true she was sure given the difference in their ranks he would have been able to sense it coming, even if she did possess attack magic there would have been no way she could have struck down a captain of his calibre. Surely, she would also remember taking such actions but she didn't, he had to be confused about the events... right? Her mind felt like it was filled with cotton wool as she tried to make sense of things but it wasn't an easy task at all. All she knew is if he was telling the truth and she attacked him then she was a criminal and should be going to jail as an enemy of Clover. Had she really just dishonoured her parents again, she didn't want to think about the disgrace or shame such actions would bring to her family name. She prayed and pleaded internally that this was just some sort of mistake, that he wasn't speaking the truth because the alternative was not a kind one in her mind.
She eventually looked up at him as he began to speak once more and shook her head "I wouldn't run, I would get married and settle down." she whispered her hands lowering from her ears her eyes puffy and her makeup slightly running with even now flowing tears.
"If that power is dangerous I don't want it, I want it locked away so I never touch it... I don't want to do harm and you can't force me to... it would be beyond cruel." her voice was meek as she spoke her words to the other.
"I am not part of the Golden Dawn..." her eyes going to her former mantle sitting neatly still on the rock he was leaning against "I have no mantle and if what you say is true I don't deserve one regardless." that was that in her mind.
"I told you Captain Zaven, I have no offensive magic, I am a healer and favour life too much to harm it let alone take it. You must have sensed that in the hanging gardens and even with the... the..." she clenched her eyes shut unable to speak about what happened to the owlbear, her magic once again flaring but it wasn't from anger but sorrow.
When he brought up her parents her eyes opened wide and in fear, her head shaking to indicate she didn't want that as she shook in seeming terror, it was clear she was petrified of that outcome. Her family had many virtues they valued, obedience, honour and duty being chief amongst them, she had been severely punished for her previous disobedience and didn't want to face their ire again.
She put her hands on the ground and bowed low her forehead going to the back of her hands "Please... please Captain Zaven... have mercy... I... I... I... I don't... I don't want to be punished by my parents again." her voice trembled as much as her body did, every family had their secrets, things that never left their households and it seemed he had struck a fear of hers. It was a secret he previously wouldn't know as she always wore a smile.
[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] Hearing her first words...keeping her against her will...Yes one could possibly say that given the situation, but the fact of the matter was that she was powerful and raw with her talent, she needed instruction...even if she did not exactly want it at the time. When she went to fetch the broom and tell him to use it to get back to headquarters… he scoffed because he had already told her exactly what he wanted her to do, but her defiance here made him have to go another route as she further protested him at every turn, trying to tell him she would settle down, that she was did not want that power and that she was just a healer. Truth be told he had half a mind to just give up...he really did, it would be easier after all...but that was not who he was, so when her final words came about and she looked at him and asked for mercy...he hated having to be the bad guy...but in this situation...he had to do so to make sure that her life was saved and in the long run, that she would be able to know how to make the tough decisions on her own as well. [break][break]
”Hinota...If you are unwilling to listen to my orders, and take responsibility for what has been done...even if the catalyst was of my own doing...then I have no other choice. My mercy is that you put your mantle back on and follow my instruction...I did not give you my old mantle because I felt sorry for you...I gave it to you because I saw promise...and I still do. Now pick it up and help me up so we can grab that broom and go find a new spot to camp...we cannot stay here much longer...the temperature is already dropping, and while I may be a warm blooded individual and always radiate heat...I am sure you are not.” He said as he sighed and winced, sitting upon the rock. He surveyed the area before and now that his eyes had adjusted he was able to see more clearly...this place was dead, and the longer they remained there...the greater their chances were of attracting hungry animals, especially with no shelter. Even now as he reached out with his sensory abilities...he could feel the stares of magically awakened creatures that were edging their way towards them. They needed to move from here as fast as possible. [break][break]
The Shooting Star bandits...outcasts even in forsaken region villages had now banded together so they could raid the borders and less than fortunate villages in the area had just been tipped off...what tipped them off you may ask...well it was none other than the spike of magic in the area off to the south of their territory in a clearing known as the “Moon Glen.” If they moved quick enough it was likely that they could get whatever made that spike, perhaps they would be weakened now. Better yet it could be an awakened relic, it was easy pickings due to the leader of the bandits…”One Eye Mayson”. The known rogue, a man that was considered to be at least a grand rank powerhouse. He could get them through just about anything, they already held tow magic items they swiped from some dumb ass Diamond soldiers...if they could geth their hands on whatever just spiked...they could sell it and get rich enough to buy their own area...or they could leave this fucking kingdom to do their own thing. Mad eye grinned as he gave the order to his men, [break][break]

She had no idea what was going through Zaven's head, her eyes looked over the desolation around the pair. The doll-like mage honestly had no idea how the other expected her to believe she was the cause of all this pain and destruction, she knew she would never be able to scratch a mage of his expertise and strength yet here he was telling her that she had almost killed him. No, it wasn't true, it was that simple. The pain was making him loopy and disillusioned on the matter, besides she would have remembered doing such a horrible act if she had done it, then there was the fact she knew her grimoire held no attack spells in it. It was mostly healing with a few restraint spells thrown in. She bit her bottom lip as she knew she was being kept against her will and it would do her no good to run, it would be like trying to run away from her parents if not worse. Zaven was a captain meaning he had access to resources, not even her parents had access to, she felt just as trapped now as she did that day they had originally met in all honesty. She had only been a bird kept in a gilded cage most of her life and when she was given the option to spread her wings she was given two options go into a certain magic knight squad or be married to a person she didn't know. He had broken the back of her cage giving her a third option to freedom but now she understood even that was her naive thinking.
She listened to his words still as he was making it mandatory for her to stay with him until he said otherwise "I am not a magic knight, I don't take orders." her voice timid as she spoke those words as she knew she was bound to the Golden Dawn even now due to her families traditions, gods did she hate her families traditions right now.
"Take responsibility? For what?" she was obviously scared and still unaware of what had happened and here he was trying to pin something on her that she couldn't do to the best of her knowledge.
"Show me proof that I have done this horrible thing you so adamantly claim I have done..." she gripped her sleeves a little as she looked to the ground "If you can do this then I will take the responsibility but I refuse to take it because I don't remember doing it and I know my grimoire has no attack spells in it." she hated calling him a liar but what was she to do, accept everything told to her by everyone without the evidence that she herself cast the spell, she could be executed as a traitor if she blindly did that.
"I have always taken responsibility when I have done wrong but right now all I know is I blacked out and when I came too the area was like this, you were as you are and you are telling me a bunch of nonsense." she bit her bottom lip, she'd have an easier time believing that the sky was purple with green polka dots than she had committed such a heinous act.
"This is what you call mercy?!" she looked up at him as he spoke of this was his way of showing it, he was clueless but then how could he, she healed herself before she returned to the headquarters from the punishment at her parent's hands.
"I want to make this clear before I tell you something, my parents are good people, take their duties and traditions seriously..." she paused for a long moment her eyes closed as she shook a little "When I defied their wishes and walked off the destined path I was punished for breaking the traditions and ethics handed down for generations." she winced just remembering that pain.
Her eyes soon opened as she smiled weakly "It doesn't matter, it is in the past." she whispered as she moved to pick up the mantle and handed it directly back to him, even if she was still bound to him if she had done this attack she didn't believe she deserved such a thing. In fact, she knew she should be killed for it as a threat for not only almost killing a captain but to the kingdom itself. He was taking a huge risk, especially in a weakened state as she could really end his life if his words were true so it made no logical sense to let her live let alone keep a magic knight mantle and it showed on her face.
It was then she stopped looking to the mantle as he spoke about how it was formerly his mantle before he had become captain of the squad, that he gave it to her not out of pity but because of the potential he had seen and still sees within her. She had no idea how he had seen potential in her, they had only spoken and she showed only a puff of her magic, not any actual ability or spell so that confused her also. She was so perplexed over this whole situation, her head was hurting with all the whiplash of thoughts going through her head, her hand eventually went to her head as she felt faint. Right now she just wanted to lay down, curl up and go to sleep forever but she was pretty sure if she tried Zaven even in his weakened state would kick her ass alive just to tell her not to do that kind of shit on his watch.
She moved her eyes to Zaven once more as he mentioned about the dropping temperature and how he was a radiator but she most likely wasn't "I might look like a porcelain doll but I do actually retain warmth believe it or not." she said with a frustrated tone, she was actually quite warm but it was because of that she felt the cold that much more keenly.
Getting closer to Zaven she did move to help him up though it was clear by how she was struggling that she wasn't physically strong, but then why would a woman that was expected to be nothing but a beautiful doll be trained for fighting or battle? For the longest time, she told her parents she felt like a bird in a gilded cage who had its wings clipped to make sure it couldn't fly away. Soon after that very, very long discussion it was deemed that she could do more but she would have an escort from a maid and a guardian that they would pay from one of the magic knight squads. She managed to get them to agree to let her choose the squad as proof they were allowing her freedoms, she had chosen the Golden Dawn due to the reputation and the squad members were all said to be prodigies in their elements and specializations within them, her parents seemed happy with her reasoning and with the prestige, the squad had on top they couldn't argue. This was how she had met Elenor in the first place and so her once guardian now friend was excited to see her when she joined the ranks with her.
She managed to get the broom hovering and sat side-saddle on it awaiting for Zaven to get on before she took off, she would only lower when Zaven himself said that a spot was fine for them to land which she would do quickly. She had no idea what her magic spiking had done or the threat that she was bringing towards them if she had known however she wouldn't have cared how strong Zaven was she would then demand that he left through the portal, going so far as pushing him through if she had to. She wouldn't have wanted him further injured than he already was but knowing him he would have hunted down Elenor to make a portal to come back regardless. That situation, however, was one unknown from the both of them at least for now.
