Rumors of an old haunted elven temple have emerged and reached the ears of the magic knights. Most recently a family went over to camp by the ruins, but only the youngest daughter returned, crying about horrifying female visages dressed in white…

Artemis patted the grimoire on her side, as she got herself ready for the job at hand. As the Magic Knights Exams drew close, she found herself pondering on what the future of the Green Mantis held. There were many things that Artemis hoped would be improved upon adding more fresh blood into their squad. At least, she hoped that there would be fresh blood added into their current pool of members. The affair was slated to be very fanciful, something akin to a festival, or the sort. It seems that the Magic Knights, at least those in the higher ups, knew that the common people needed this fan fare. The tragedy that surrounded the past few months had cast a long shadow throughout the Clover Kingdom. Most were oblivious of it for the most part, though Artemis had heard of the whispers, especially from those within the Forsaken Region. Fear was something that was bubbling just underneath the surface. Mana beasts were starting to show up once more in droves. There was a corruption in the air, very thin, though still present. Artemis was sure that most people would not even notice the change in the air itself. Those who can are those who should know anyway. Even then, it did not soothe Artemis’ mind. She felt that there was something more to this than meets the eye. Something was stirring, something old, something dangerous. If she were a betting woman, which she was on occasion, she would bet that it had something to do with the Witches’ Forest. The event that claimed so many Magic Knights’ lives.[break][break]
She shook her head, clearing up the cloud that was forming just overhead. Artemis needed to be more alert for this mission. While it was simple enough on paper, she knew that it was more than what meets the eye. Spirits, it seems, have risen. If superstition was to be believed, this was an omen of ill fate. Artemis knew it well. Spirits of the dead, of those who could not find their peace, of those who died wretchedly. They existed, though not within the confines of the Clover Kingdom’s Common Region. Most of those who died in the area were at least well cared for. However, Artemis was not surprised that this was happening in a town like Kiten. A border town, a place where bloodshed was sometimes inevitable. Kiten bordered the Diamond Kingdom, the closest town to the once sworn enemy of the Clover Kingdom. Death and desolation was abundant in the fields and valleys of the town, and those who live within it know the dangers abroad. It’s graveyards were not filled with the sick and the old, but the young and the brave. Artemis knew of the hardy men and women who lived within the town’s walls. They lived to live, without turning their backs for a better and safer life. They were with the courage of a hundred men, and Artemis truly appreciated the bravery of Kiten’s residents. [break][break] “Stay sharp.” Artemis would say to her companion as they made their way towards the so called Elven Temple ruin. It was a hotspot, to say the least. People from all over the Clover Kingdom had started to clamour towards it when it was first discovered. It was not a dungeon, unlike the other ruins that were sometimes discovered. This one was more or less empty, with nothing to hide but it’s age and history. “Ghosts. Spirits.” Artemis would shake her head. She was not sure whether to truly believe the tale. Bandits would be the more likely cause, and maybe some form of smoke magic. This specific Elven Temple saw no violence, after all, taking in to account the studies compiled by the Coral Peacocks. Which was the reason why the place became a public place for all to be able to walk around in, after all. It was not guarded, or at least, the town of Kiten did not see fit to guard it.[break][break]
“Valo, there is corruption in the air.” Artemis would warn her fellow Magic Knight. “The little girl talked of spirits.” She would point towards the Elven Temple, now that they have finally come close enough to it. “At first, I thought it might be some bandits, using smoke magic or something to the like.” It was a good guess. But the air, now that Artemis was close, felt putrid. It felt cursed, as though something that should not exist was here. An amalgamation of magic and life. “I hope you are ready.” [break][break]
Behind Artemis Valo followed her, with a bit of a slower pace though. His arms high up in the air as he stretched them along with his back. His body was feeling a little more tense than usual. The reason why was because for the past few days he's truly been on a grind, he was going on mission after mission with some personal training sessions in between them. Valo didn't it at all his body would just have to get used to it, especially now since from the mission briefing this one could be his toughest one yet. He wanted to be at his best at all times, for this mission he had to. He didn't want to use Artemis appearance as some kind of excuse to slack off, just like the other intermediate mission he would approach this one with his best foot forward. This mission may involve spirits, ghosts other superstitions things of the sort while Valo has never seen any spirit of ghost himself he never doubted they would exist. His belief was they lived in world full of magic whose to tell what exists and what doesn't, according to him anything could be real and him having this mindset would most likely keep him sharp for this mission and the other jobs to come in the future.
This job found Valo in Kiten again, he was just here the other day to find a lost kitten for a rich aristocrat. After the job his opinions on Kiten changed a a lot, at first he didn't think much of the town but now he wouldn't mind having a home here one day far far off into the future. But from the looks of this part of town, he opinion might change again. The was definitely something sinister in the air, even a mage with some small sensory abilities could tell. Perhaps ghosts and lost spirits were real, he bet by the end of the night they would now for certain.
When they arrived at the Elven Temple Valo did some standing side reach stretches on both sides to continue to get his body ready. It was here that he noticed Artemis had a lot on her mind, she almost seemed distracted which was rare. But Valo didn't comment on it, he knew he didn't have to tell her to get ready she's been doing this way longer. If anything she would be the reminder for him. Which she did.
"I'm always ready." he replied to her now doing a triceps stretch on his right arm. He took a few steps forward towards the Elven Temple, it definitely looked like it could be haunted. It had a barren look to it, similar to a old haunted castle the air around was dense and thick. "Well this is exciting! This may be actually haunted! Not that I didn't believe the girl but...yeah this definitely has the look. Maybe we find some hidden treasure!? Gold? Jewelry? Who ever finds it keeps it. Deal?" Valo said over to Artemis with a small grin.
Valo was indeed looking forward to this a new chance to test his limits never failed to excite him. Despite his humor he was indeed ready to go, and he didn't want to waste more time. He took some more confident foot steps forward, pushing the old large dusty door open getting a good look inside the temple.
"You sensing anything yet?" he asked Artemis waiting for her input before deciding to move forward.

“Haunted?” Artemis would tilt her head slightly. She supposed that could be the case. Spirits, indeed. “If what the little lady said was true, these would be far more than your average spirits.” Hags, possibly. Vengeful spirits that haunt the living, without rhyme nor reason. At least, no rhyme nor reason in the eyes of the living. Not a lot of studies have been conducted on these spiritual phenomena. So, in technicality, they were classified as mana beast by the compendium of the Clover Kingdom. Though, truly, Artemis believed that spirits themselves should be classified on a tier of their own. After all, spirits sometimes retained cognitive processes that mana beasts lacked. Sometimes they can be very smart, as smart as humans, one could actually make the argument, especially those who were higher tiered in strength. “These spirits are not your ordinary ones in folk and fairy tales.” She would look around the area, trying to make sense of everything around her, “these ones are vile and vicious.” Artemis could still remember the last time she had faced a spirit, and that one actually had quite the smarts still on him. “The Magic Knights ranked this mission so low, this meant that they don’t believe these spirits are high tier ones.” She would nod, though would continue, “However, from what I can sense, these creatures are either strong, or they are plenty. The corruption within the air itself is making it hard to breath, physically and mentally.” It was like walking through mud. “Be on your guard.”[break][break]
Fog started rolling in. If it were up to Artemis, she would never have come here this late in the night. The darkness of the sky only empowered these mana beasts, especially those of the dead. The moon have them the cover of darkness, and Artemis and Valo were now in their opponent’s territory. The sun was the undead’s natural enemy. Though, truly, if their plan was to eliminate these spirit creatures, night time would be best for luring them out.[break][break]
“What we know is that this has been happening quite often,” Artemis would start, though her voice was only a little over a whisper. “The temple itself is very old, though, I hate to burst your bubble,” she continued, her mouth quirking just a little, “there have been no treasures found inside nor around it, it was simply a temple of faith, of an old religion that did not believe in materialism.” The simpler times, if there was any other word for it. The elves of old knew not to covet, at least, in spirit. They were powerful beings, and Artemis knew of them through her studies with her own lineage. The markings on her body were, after all, remnants of the elven blood flowing through her veins. Elves, in general, were unlike humans. From her studies, she found the elves to be more gentile, and less fraught with negative emotion. “However, if you do find treasure, declare it to the town. It is more than likely the belongings of those who fell victim to these spirits that we are now going to dispatch.” [break][break]
Artemis paused. She felt the air once again, and released her mana as it travelled around. Her latent sensory magic swirled as it tried to find its mark. The latent corruption was in the air. It was all around as Artemis tried her best to shake it all away. It latched onto her mana, as though trying to devour whatever sanity she had. The good news, however, was that Artemis herself was far too strong to fall prey to these spirits’ malevolence. They were in their own league, of course, and Valo alone might have a tough time dealing with them. She supposed it was a good idea after all to actually join the young man in this mission. [break][break]
“Valo, be on your guard,” She would open her eyes now, pointing towards the tree line, “they’re here.”[break][break]
As expected, screams and cries, ethereal-like, surrounded them. A host of spirits, all mangled and horrendous, appeared before the two Green Mantis mages. However, what Artemis saw made her eyes widen just a little more, though it would have been noticeable.[break][break]
“There. The family!” It seems that the family still yet lived, though only just. The spirits had them pinned on a segment of the wall, and while they were not awake, Artemis could feel through her natural sensory that they were alive, if barely. “You go and rescue the family, leave the bulk of these spirits to me. They’re not something you will want to take head on en mass.”[break][break]
With that, Artemis flared her mana, catching the attention of most of the spirits. They hissed and snarled, before rushing towards Artemis. However, not all of them did. There were a few that stuck behind, as though protecting their prey, the family of the little girl back in Kiten.

Valo sucked his teeth when Artemis mentioned that there most likely not be any treasure to find given the history of the temple, not only that if they did find any they couldn't really claim it. A minor annoyance, Valo started to miss the days where he could find something valuable and either take it or steal it most likely to claim as his own. But him being a magic knight now meant he would probably have to let that go. "...Fine." he said in response. But now was the time to get serious. He felt the air become much more sinister, whatever they were going to face here was about to make it's appearance. Valo braced himself for whatever might show itself.
The room in the temple was quite large, but it was so quiet and abandoned the atmosphere was almost malevolent. Valo assumed at that point in time this place could have looked quite amazing but now it was quite the opposite. The only light coming in was from the full moon out tonight, so while it was dark it wasn't to dark to not make out anything. Valo started to walk in deeper, noticing broken tables and benches all sorts of broken and dusty furniture and assortments in the room. There were doors on each side of the room that were rusted and looked like they could fall apart at any second. As he walked in deeper he noticed some figures by the end of the room, nearby one of the door. He couldn't make out exactly what it was, but he figured it may have been the missing family. But Valo stopped in place when he heard loud shrieks and screams surround them, I just a few seconds the evil spirits revealed themselves. Tall grey ethereal like creatures, their bodies covered in dirty white garbs it looked like. Only their long skinny arms were shown, as they floated above ground. Large white hoods covered most of their face, but a closer look would reveal grey skin and wide jaw with long pointed teeth. Truly something ripped out of a horror tale. Valo put up his guard, while getting a peek of their faces. "Eeeewwww you guys sure are ugly." he said to himself.
He heard Artemis's warning, telling him where the family was. It was indeed the figures he noticed at the end of the room. Sleeping against the wall, it was a father with another young girl though older then the little girl who was able to escaped. The father's arm was wrapped around the girl, in attempts to protect her from whatever these were. If anything they looked to be dead, but with Artemis command to rescue them Valo was pretty sure they were still alive. Not even paying mind to the malicious spirits Valo started a sprint towards the family, knowing that their safety had to come fist.
He had a clear straight passage through, so he decided to risk it. A foolish act on his part though, the young wizard still had a lot to learn. As he was sprinting towards the family one of the banshee's surprising him with it's speed that was faster than Valo's grabbed him by the side of his head and slammed Valo to the floor pushing him further and further to the right putting distance between him and the family
."Tch. Damn it. So fast." The sudden attack caught Valo off guard, so it hurt but Valo's mana skin protected him fo the most part. Mana skin however didn't completely block off the pain though. The Banshee still dragging Valo slammed him through the broken down door on the right side of the room. Luckily the door was so old the impact of it didn't cause to much pain at all. Three other Banshee's followed after that initial attack leaving Valo to deal with four of them on his own possibly.
Valo was getting tired of being tossed around and had to start his offensive, he grabbed the banshee by the arm gripping it hard while it's skinny arm was still holding on to him. Valo lifted his right leg and landed two crushing kicks into the banshee's face. While it was hurt the banshee still held on, it was tough, much tougher than the goblins Valo dealt with last time. But a wide grin appeared on his face.
"Finally a challenge!" he shouted to himself.
He pressed both of his feet to the banshee's chest and started to pull on it's arm with his body given their frail appearance their bodies had to be weak. With his strength Valo was able to rip off it's arm from its body, though the banshee was in much pain now it still wasn't dead. But Valo had little to no time to be relaxed, the other three banshee were coming in close behind it. His grimoire attached to his hip on his right side started to glow with a red light. Valo pressed his right foot harder on the ground with a intense flame rising from it, in the next moment he did a wide roundhouse kick releasing a intense arc of flame in their direction.
"Blaze Arc!!" With the right timing and precision he was able to land a hit on all four of the banhsee's effectively killing the one he had already weakened as it's body turned to dust.
The other three weren't done yet, but he did manage to cause a little separation between them though. These guys were tough and fast, faster than Valo for sure. But he didn't shy from challenge not at all. His grin never leaving his face. He was still holding onto the dead banshee's arm, he threw it at the one of the banshee that was closest. Perhaps it would land, but what it would do was cause a minor distraction. The banshee caught it mid air, these things were quick and it was starting to annoy Valo. But it served it's purpose, Valo used that time and dashed closer with a quick pounce, landed a solid strong knee strike to its chest. He used his arms to hold on to it's neck, keeping him latched to it. The banshee snarled right in front of Valo's face getting a full look at it's face. The wrinkly grey skin, sharp teeth, and patches of light grey hair on its head. Valo shuddered at the look of it, but never ceased his attack he pulled back and launched his head forward landing a breaking headbutt right on it's nose or what was left of a nose. It still wasn't down for the count but it was stunned for a few seconds, Valo started to continue his pressure but was caught off guard again.
One of the other banshee's grabbed him by his right leg, and swung him slamming him through yet another fragile wall. Further separating him and creating more distance between him and the family. The dust of all the walls and broken furniture started to get on his clothes, his green mantis cloak tattered. His mana skin was still active which he had to thank, because without out he would probably be in some serious pain and trouble right now. As Valo started to get up again, another one of the Banshee's started to close in these things were so fast. Valo barely had the time to react to it, he could only brace himself. From it's open tattered white garb it two vicious looking tentacles slammed against Valo launching him back to slam against a tattered book shelf, and through yet another wall. Leaving him buried underneath all the rubble.

Artemis would watch the young man take his charge without questions. If she were being honest, then truly. She was just a little worried for the young man. Valo Stark was a capable mage in his own tier, but this was something cut above the rest, even more than the goblins that they had encountered and dispatched just prior to this mission. These spirits were not to be trifled with, and Artemis herself knew that as she watched a swarm of them make their way towards her. They were ghastly creatures, deformed and vile, a desecration of the land, her religion, and of nature. Artemis’ mana sung, it thrummed as it waited to be used by its master. Artemis felt the anticipation of battle boiling through her veins. The adrenaline was pumping, and she knew that it was in her instinct to start fighting as soon as possible. Her adrenaline rush demanded her of it. However, she would squash the urge down. It was a work in process, but Artemis herself was trying her best. She watched them all make their way towards her, and she did not blink and eye. It was when she realized that more than a handful had actually stayed behind. Valo Stark will have his work cut out for him, it seems. The deformed and malcontent mana beasts, creatures in every sense of the word, will want to defend their prey, more than attack Valo. At least, if instincts were to be followed. If anything, Artemis will help the young man later on. For now, however, she had her own fish to fry. [break][break]
One of the main problems that Artemis realized was the fact that she could not use her area of effect spells. The temple itself was in good condition, so most likely would not incur any damage at all. At least, structurally, the temple itself was sound. However, there were two things that held Artemis back from just obliterating these mana beasts from where they stood. The first was simply because of the precious marking and artifacts littered around the temple itself. There were things here that were priceless. Even more so, there were the drawings and markings on the wall. From what the researchers have concluded, they had only survived the years because of them being sheltered from the elements. Artemis’ magic was the pure form of her element. Water was a simple element, it’s a cardinal of its own type, alongside that of fire, earth, and wind. However, it was still as destructive as its sister elements. Water might be a giver of life, the soothing element, but it can also take back what it gave. Water, after all, wasa fickle mistress, and while most would disregard its untapped power, those who wielded the element knew better. [break][break]
“It seems that the eight of you will do for now,” Artemis would whip out her grimoire. The tome that held an aquamarine gem on it floated with grace. A blue hue wrapped around the whole book, a testament to her element. “I can’t use my spells to full capacity, though, that does not mean I have nothing to deal with you eight.” The water mage’s magic responded in kind, and her grimoire started flipping pages rapidly. She needed a clean spell, something that would not do untold damage to the place. The Green Mantis were already on hot coal for the most part, and she did not want to add “destroying a temple” to the list of their worries. So, she chose an elegant weapon, something that would not cause too much unnecessary damage to the place. [break][break] “Aphrodite, heed my call.” [break][break]
A bow of water materialized on her right hand. To a spectator, they would have seen water start to bubble on Artemis’ palm, before it slowly came together to form a tangible long bow. The weapon was a signature that Artemis herself used on more than one occasion. It had seen more combat than most of her other spells, and was one of the two spells that had seen the walls and corridors of dungeons. It was very useful in medium to long ranged combat, though it’s hand to hand capability was not something to be trifled with or looked down upon. [break][break]
Artemis pulled the water based bowstring back, and three arrows made of the element appeared. They were sharp, and flew true because of their sensory mechanic. Even more so, they were illusioned, unseen by the naked eye, and most would be unable to sense it at all. The spirits were getting closer and closer. [break][break]
“One. Two. Three.” [break][break]
All three arrows were shot, and found their mark. Three of the eight spirits were pierced through their forehead, their screams dying with them. This stopped the group for a moment, they were unsure what happened, unable to see Artemis’ arrows. But, in good fashion, they roared and wailed. This was the prelude, Artemis knew that she would have a close quarter combat situation, and she had to be ready.

The arrows can either pierce an enemy, or it it hits solid materials like ground or walls, it bursts into sharp water needles that hits in an AOE manner. At first hit, opponents are blinded by the water that hits their eyes. The blind effect only happens once per opponent. The arrows, as well, are coated with an illusion, making them very hard to see, hear, and detect with mana, and finally are able to home in on their intended target because of the user's Sensory. Those hit by the spell will also have their sensory debuffed, following on debuff rules.[break]

"Tch. Damn it." Valo muttered to himself as his body laid on the ground underneath broken rubble of walls, shelves and books. The attacks from the banshee's had Valo hurt and bruised. Perhaps he was in over his head for taking on a mission like this, he heard Artemis's warnings but if he was being honest with himself he paid it little mind. He had been a magic knight for such a short time and already he had grown to confident in his limited abilities. And now because of his arrogance he was paying the price, he felt a sharp pain in his upper back and in his right shoulder. He could still move them well, but he had brace for some sharp pain every now and then. While he was slowly getting up he mind began to wonder why wasn't he being attacked again. He was able to rise back up to his knees, and looked ahead. The three banshees had already moved on they thought him defeated and dead. All three started to head back towards to the family, and Artemis's location. Deep down this infuriated him he didn't like to be looked down upon even by ugly creatures like this. He wouldn't allow himself to waver though, he didn't count himself out yet and that was all that mattered. He was going to give it his all here and now. Life or death no matter what.
"Ok. So you ugly pieces of crap gonna keep counting me out huh. Blaze Accel." he said to himself, but his last two words that activated his spell came out with a rougher tone. His grimoire attached to his hip started to glow a red and orange color. Small little flames started to dance and spark around his feet, initiating his spell was now active. His spell Blaze Accel essentially at his current limit double his speed and then some. He had the most trouble keeping up with the speed of the Banshee's their attacks were strong but Valo was confident he could match them in strength. If he could make up the difference in speed even if just a little, it could prove to be turning point in the fight so far. With the addition of Valo's combat skill and prowess he was sure he could handle the three of them he had left and still save the family. For a quick moment he started to wonder how Artemis was doing, but he was absolutely positive she was just fine. Creatures like this while giving him a fair challenge were no match for her and her abilities.
"Damn I'm weak." he spoke in a undertone to himself. But this did little to shake his confidence to move forward, if anything it was going to enhance it. He positioned himself into a sprint body pose took a deep breath and dashed forward leaving sparks of fire in a trail as he dashed forward towards the closest banshee. Now his battle with them had taken him into separate room from Artemis and the family, so now he needed to push back on the offense to get himself at least in the same room. His full sprint to close the distance did catch the Banshee's off guard before they even turned around to notice Valo attacking again. He was in the air and landed a flying kick, but with both of his boots planted into one of the banshee's back sending it flying forward slamming into a wall. Valo landed on one foot on the ground, his left arm as well to balance him. But he had to keep moving and now with his spell active it was much easier, and much quicker. The Banshee with tentacles laughed them towards Valo trying to pierce him this time, Valo was able to dodge in the nick of time it's tentacles piercing into the ground causing them to get stuck. Valo acted quickly and before he grabbed them he slammed his foot on top of them hard causing significant damage. He then grabbed them and used them to perform a over the shoulder throw slamming the Banshee into the ground, it wasn't done for the count yet. But it would stunned for a second, enough time for Valo to land yet another slam with his foot directly on it's back this time keeping it in place.
He must have proven himself a threat now because the third banshee let out a loud scream, it's grey skinny fingers growing in length and it's black nails also getting longer. It rushed over to Valo but this time he at least ready. Now the Banshee's were still bit faster than him, but the difference wasn't so significant that he couldn't make it up with skill. These banshee's were untrained, their attacks wild with no sense of purpose. Something that Valo was taught to take advantage of in street fights why not use that here. The banshee tried to swipe with it's right claw but instead of dodging it, Valo parried it with his left arm hitting it's long forearm. He used this opening to bring himself in closer wrapping his left arm around it's right arm. Before the Banshee could retaliate Valo was already in close using his right elbow to strike the banshee's captured arm breaking it completely. Causing it to shriek in pain, but Valo continued his assault. The back of his right hand struck it's face once sending it back, but Valo still having his left arm wrapped around its broken arm caused the Banshee to yank back into the same position meeting the back of his fist yet again. It was crucially damaged now. Stunned in place for a few seconds Valo used the opportunity to execute another signature over the shoulder throw, but this time he slammed it's body into the other banshee that was still pinned onto the floor. The attack was finally enough to finish both Banshee's off for good leaving only left to deal with.
The last Banshee seeing the others perish, must have angered it. This one moved with a lot more ferocity then before, but because of the distance Valo created with his strong kick earlier. He was at least prep himself for it. It tried to swipe at him with it's claws, Valo barely dodging it getting a scratch on his left arm. His mana shield was still up but it was on it' last legs understandably. But the Banshee was able to grip Valo by the neck and lift off the ground, Valo acted quickly wrapping his arms around it's arm and swinging his foot up to land a couple hard kicks in it's face. The Banshee started to swing around wildly not letting go of Valo, the strength of Valo's kicks not enough to put it down or stun it.
"Tch. Screw you!!" Valo said to Banshee now getting visibly frustrated. The Banshee's wild movement caused them to crash into furniture and walls. But Valo was able to guide it's positioning just enough so it's back was now facing the wall that lead back to the room the family and Artemis was in. He pulled his foot back to put force into his next kick, sending it foot forward with much more force and strength, it crashed into the wall letting Valo go. Valo landed on the ground holding onto his neck to his neck to ease the pain even if just a little. He looked back up at the Banshee and wasted no time, dashing towards it bringing his right arm back and then shooting it forward landing a strong punch right in it's face causing him and the Banshee to go through the wall crashing back into the room with the family. The impact and crash caused a sound a loud enough to wake up the daughter just a little bit, her eyes started to open slightly.
Valo had successfully taken out all the Banshee's that pursued him, he let out a deep breath of relaxation just for a minute. He noticed that Artemis in her battle was unscathed and even managed to avoid destroying any furniture, in complete opposite to him. His clothes were tattered, noticeable wounds, scratches and dust covered him. Plus to count the massive mess he made in his fight, the room he was in fighting now in ruins even the wall he just came through now had a hole in it. "She's freaking unbelievable." he said to himself in regards to Artemis. But a sudden scream of terror caught Valo's attention instantly.
"AAaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!" a loud shriek of terror escaped the young girls lips.
One of the many Banshee's that Artemis was facing was making it's way toward her. Valo still having his spell active went into a instant dash towards it. But feared he may not be quick enough to catch it in time. But Valo refused to doubt himself, he was given the task to rescue the family and that's what he intended to no matter what. He will pull through, he will succeed. Pushing himself even further he managed to just barely make it, he tackled the Banshee just before it's claws could reach the young girls throat. They both crashed into some benches and chairs, the sudden attack made the Banshee shriek loudly in anger.
"Shut!! Up!!" Valo yelled back at it. He got back on his feet wasting no time to land a solid punch square in its jaw. The Banshee tried to attack Valo with a wide swipe coming from it's right claw. Valo was able to parry the attack but barely it's Claws him against his forearm depleting his mana shield completely. But he had no time to acknowledge the pain, he had to keep moving. With the semi successful parry, Valo took a step forward using right palm to slam into the Banshee's jaw in form of a uppercut. The attacked proved successful the Banshee fell to the floor in a stunned state. Valo bought his right leg up high flames still flickering from his boots do to his active spell. In the next moment he bout his heel down with lightning speed, landing a heel drop kick directly into the Banshee's face killing it.

Artemis realized that the young man she had taken with her, Valo Stark, was not gone from her sights. It seems that the fighting got taken into another room. Artemis was not sure whether the young man could handle himself without getting into too much trouble. She knew that the spirits were strong, and while they might be weak in terms of physical damage, they made it up by their element of sound. Not only was it high pitched, and very annoying, it can also cause a person’s ears to bleed. It was a magic that was less seen with humans, but definitely was not unheard of. Interestingly, even Artemis had never ran across a mage who used sound magic, though it might just be her luck in any case. [break][break]
“Four?” She would mutter, now surrounded by the spirits. They were in full fighting mode, and the spirits were once again trying to encircle Artemis. Her bow was not going to cut it, though close combat was still manageable. However much she wanted to use her more destructive spells, the area wide ones that could cut swathes of enemies in a single stroke, she could not. The damages would be too much, though, and she knew that she would rather not incur any expenses if possible. The Green Mantis were down on their luck as is at the moment. “I suppose it will have to be the good old fashion fight then, hm?” Artemis whispered to herself, as she got herself ready for the fight at hand. While her bow was meant for long ranged battles, it’s versatility made it into a weapon that can easily be used to party and block, while at the same time, shoot arrows at a closer range.[break][break]
The first of the four struck against Artemis. It reached over with its ethereal claws as it tried to swipe at the Green Mantis Magic Knight, trying to catch her off guard during the lull. Artemis, for her part, had been ready. Her Ki senses made it so that she could follow movements, even though she could not see them. More quick than anticipated, Artemis spun around and ducked under the would be blow. She let her legs tense up, as the bow in her hand, Aphrodite, was quickly pivoted to be aimed at her opponent, the one who tried to take a swipe at her. [break][break]
“One.”[break][break]
An arrow was knocked and released without hesitation. The water element made arrow pierced through the chest of the spirit. There was a small cry, a whimper, and a gurgle before the spirit fell down in a heap. These mana beasts were definitely strong, though, they chose the wrong opponent to take on. [break][break]
The other three were not happy about the death of one of their own, which prompted them to all strike at the same time. Artemis, for her part, realized that there was now an opening to their once enclosed circle. Without any hesitation, she slid towards the opening, effectively getting away from the planned ambush. She would get her bow ready, and fire the second of the three arrows that she could make every time she channeled mana into the bow. With one nocked, she shot, never missing a target and hitting the second of the four straight on the forehead as it tried to advance towards her.[break][break]
“Two.”[break][break]
Using what time she had left before the other two finally came upon her, Artemis swivelled to the right, using her bow as a pivoting tool. No time wasted, she brought the bow upwards, catching the third one on the cheek, piercing its ethereal skin as it screamed loudly. This action caused Artemis to lose time, however, as the final one was finally able to swipe at her again. The bow, however, was still stuck on the spirit’s cheek. Getting another idea, Artemis immediately swung her bow, with the spirit still attached. The force of the swing cause the spirit to dislodge from the bow itself, and hurled towards its still alive companion. In quick fashion, Artemis drew back her last arrow, and shot straight and true, catching the last spirit on its abdomen, before breathing a sigh.[break][break]
“Four, all done” She would shake her head, though she had not expended much mana, it was still a chore to fight spirits at close range. Especially since she would not be able to use her area of effect spells that she was known for using.[break][break]
“Wait, there were eight.” Artemis perked up, her eyes widened, “One more. Shit.”[break][break]
It seems that one doubled back towards the family, and Valo. Without hesitation, she sprinted towards the other room, hoping to find the young man and the family still alive.

With his fifth and last Banshee done for the count and dispersing into dust. Valo let out a deep sigh of relief his breaths were heavy, his body physically exhausted he wasn't sure if could keep going even if he wanted to. He bent over placing his hands on his knees to stop him from dropping to the floor, but when he started to catch his breath again he started to feel re-energized of course not at 100% but enough to start moving around a little. He rose back to stand on his own two feet again, wiping his forehead to clear some sweat and dust. He couldn't help but be satisfied though, he succeeded in his initial goal of protecting the family. But not only that that was the first time ever he had to exert himself so much in a fight. Even back home in Kikka the biggest brawls only came down to him and his gang versus a rival gang, while those were fun no less. This was something else completely his life was truly at stake in certain parts, but he couldn't risk failure this time. If he had lost who knows what would have happened to the family they had come to save. But then he remembered Artemis was here as well, and the family probably would have fine none the less. The thought caused to chuckle to himself, he had to exert himself so much but he was sure Artemis was just fine.
"T-Thank You!" the young girl shouted towards Valo. She and her farther were still in the same spot they find them in. Perhaps the fear of the Banshee's had paralyzed them in place. A look of fear still noticeable on their face, but she looked more at ease than before when a wild Banshee was rushing toward her. Valo still recovering managed to grin and simply hold a thumbs up in her direction, to acknowledge her. While it may have looked like the battle was over, it was still best to secure their safety and escort them out the temple. Valo started to walk over towards them, his clothes a mess covered in dust, rips and some stains of blood on his arms. While his mana Shield held out and protected him from most of the severe damage, he still sustained some minor ones. For the most part he was fine but he didn't look like it from the condition on his clothes.
"Come on you guys should get out of here." he said towards them gesturing for them to stand up. As he did that Artemis came sprinting in with a look of concern on her face. Valo saw her coming in, and smiled at her to reassure her that he accomplished in keeping the family safe. He showed her a thumbs up as well to match along with his wide smile. But what did annoy him was the fact that she was indeed unscathed, no wounds, marks, a single scratch nothin at all. While he was a complete mess she looked just as pristine as when they fist walked into the horrid place.
"Oi! Where are your battle wounds!? You don't got a mark on you!" he shouted comically at her. "My clothes are ruined cause of this place! Next time I choose the job! Ok!" he said with even more humor in his voice. Obviously he was joking trying to ease the tension that loomed in the air. As he did this he started to escort the family out of the temple.
Artemis would look around the room, before trudging towards the archway that led to the other side, where she had seen the family laying down. The fight should be over, as the sounds of battle were nowhere to be heard. However, it was not the battle that Artemis was afraid about. It was the lack of battle that did. While she knew that Valo Stark, was himself a very capable Magic Knight, she knew just how crafty, annoying, and somewhat powerful the spirits were. They were, in essence, a tier above Valo’s capabilities, at least, that was what she had presumed under the circumstances that the young man had just joined the Green Mantises not long ago. Power was something that the young man had. Potential was something he had within himself. The problem was, he was still growing as a mage. He knew that he had the potential for more power, and to surpass his current limits, but that also meant that he was starting from the bottom. Hopefully, the little time he had within the Green Mantis has taught him enough to survive his encounter. Even so, Artemis held her grimoire at the ready.[break][break]
There was a moment’s pause, before Artemis saw that the young man was okay. He was not dead, at least, though he did seem a little roughed up. Most likely, he had gotten himself in a tough fight against the spirits, and was hit multiple times by their magic. However, they seemed to be just fine, which Artemis attributed to mana skin, the natural phenomena of mages.[break][break]
Artemis did not take a breather. Instead she held out her grimoire whose pages starting flipping. “The place is still drenched in putrid mana. Valo, take these people out of here as I cleanse it once and for all.” The spirits laying on the ground, though defeated physically, still was emanating horrid mana. It seems that Artemis would need to cleanse the whole place, and most likely, will need to use her area of effect spells. She was confident in her abilities of control, and will need all of her concentration to even pull it off. She would wash away the filth that stained the temple, and finally give rest to these spirits, the tortured souls.[break][break]
When Valo finally escorted the family and himself out, though a bit slower than Artemis would have wanted, her grimoire flowed with blue mana. “Poseidon’s Wrath.”[break][break]
One of her more powerful spells, water started to form just behind Artemis. She manipulated the spell, giving it the horse like appearance, while controlling its raging demand. Artemis carefully maneuvered the spell, having it sweep through not only the spirits that she herself had dispatched, but also those that Valo had defeated. She was not sure whether they still lived or not, but her spell made sure they would stay down. It churned the spirits, and for some reason, Artemis heard screams. She would not give it mind, the product of spirit mana beasts’ trying to trick her. [break][break]
After a few moments, Artemis slowly withdrew the water spell. The temple was intact, as she herself made sure to control the water, making sure it did not damage anything of importance. Satisfied that the corruption was not lingering within the air anymore, Artemis made her way out of the temple. She would hopefully meet with Valo and the family, before heading back to the town. A job well done, and lives saved. Hopefully, it was also an eye opening experience for Valo Stark as to how hard a more senior mage’s life can be.
