It was starting to get warmer in the town of Kikka and the day had started as many days before it had. The sun rose and people started getting on with their daily routines, of course, there was an excited energy in the air as summer quickly approached and that meant the summer festival would be nearing too. Then something changed, it wasn't sudden, in fact, for the most part, many would have just chalked it up to a cool breeze or clouds blocking out the sun perhaps getting ready to rain. Soon enough though it was at a point that no one could ignore, the temperature lowered severely as all light seemed to be swallowed in an unnatural darkness. The citizens of Kikka started to panic, going to the church thinking that they could do something to chase away the darkness but nothing came of it as upon the very top of the church sat a young man with black hair dressed in black, the hood of his top covering his head as he smiled down to the pleading citizens below.
"Aww, so sweet of you to come and play with me... although, I do have to warn you that I have a habit of breaking my toys since they're always so frail, it does get ever so very boring for me..." he said in a somewhat disinterested voice though a sinister smile crept across his face as he came to realise something "Perhaps if I break enough of my weaker toys I'll get some toy soldiers to play with. What do you all think?" he grinned looking at the people below him now attempting to run away from him, his eyes glancing to the darkness he created and the minions he had brought "Allow one child free with a message that this place is now under new rulership, but until our new toys arrive, we best keep ourselves entertained with what we have... in fact I have an idea that will show mercy we'll let our loyal subjects decide which one of their children will be our messenger and thus spared from our games." and just like that Kikka had been turned into a place of eternal darkness and its inhabitants into mere playthings for the so-called new ruler of the town.
Story
The entire city of Kikka has been shrouded in shadow. The darkness has formed an orb around the entire city, making it feel like night with very little light emanating from nowhere. Shadows of those who have died now haunt the citizens. No amount of light providing magic seems to help.
Sven the Shadow has made his appearance known. He is one of the 7 Arch-Daemon. Alongside Serena, he has launched a simultaneous attack. He has taken Kikka while she takes Raque.
Defeat the shadows and stop Sven from destroying the entire city. The shadow here is intense, but those of you in Kikka must fight. The darkness seems to be emanating from 5 wells that have appeared all around the city. Destroy them and bring back the light to Kikka. Sven is a vengeful Daemon, cruel and corrupt, but he can be destroyed. (Everyone in the shadow sphere has their sight reduced not to a blind, but halfway to one so to speak.)
Event Objectives:
-Destroy the 5 Shadow Wells while fending off the Shadows and protecting as many citizens as you can -Defeat Sven
Artemis had just finished her last mission on the outskirts of Kikka, and had decided to stay in town to try out her favourite desert from the local bakeries: cheesecake. [break][break]
From what she had gathered, the circus was now starting to pack their things up. It seems that the business had not been doing well the following days after the rampage of the beasts, which meant that the circus itself could not pay the rest for the land they had rented. It was a terrible loss for their troupe, though Artemis truly cared little. They had endangered the lives of Clover citizens, which was something that rubbed Artemis the wrong way. As a Magic Knight, it was her duty to safeguard the Clover Kingdom from all internal and external forces that wished to do it harm. While she valued her life, there were things that she knew that were higher on her priority list. Namely, the lives of those she cared about. [break][break]
Artemis would shake her head, the cheesecake that she had been eating was almost done, with one last slice left for her to consume. She would sigh then, wanting one more eight-slice of the cake, yet was sure that the bakery had sold her their last portion, and every previous portion they had in-hand. It was a tragedy of the commons.[break][break]
Sighing to herself, the Vice Captain of the Green Mantis Magic Knights Squad would get up from her cozy corner within the inn she had decided to stay in. There was little else she needed to do here, and knew that her duties back in Hage were calling her. It had only been a day, but she knew that the paperwork would start piling up once again, courtesy of the Captain.[break][break]
Making her way out of the inn, she would nod towards the innkeeper, who smiled at Artemis. She had been a great host, and Artemis could swear that she had once been a chef of great renown. The woman’s beef stew had been almost legendary in taste, and left Artemis wanting more. Having paid handsomely, she left in high spirits.[break][break]
Which was quickly dampened by the darkness outside. Unnatural darkness. Terrifying darkness.[break][break]
Artemis could feel it around her. Mana. It was overflowing, running through the streets of Kikka rampantly. There were screams. Or were there? She could not be sure anymore, as her sight was suddenly minimize. Where once she could see fairly clearly, now she could only see short distances. Even then, it was blurry, hazy, and dark.[break][break]
The malevolent presence that was present was familiar to her. She had felt it once before. In the dungeon. In the depths of that foul dungeon.[break][break]
“Daemon.” She would whisper, before using her natural sensory skills, as well as her Ki sensing to maneuver her way through the streets. If she was right, then she knew that she would need back-up. This was not something even a Vice Captain of her caliber can handle alone.
[break] So soon? Delicate eyebrows furrowed on a feminine face, and grey-green eyes glowed as they beheld a sort of abnormal movement in the air. Slender fingers reached out, attempting to grasp at the darkening atmosphere. It felt off, this shifting haze. Was it smog? No, it was condensing too fast to be anything natural. More like shadows. But at the same time, these were no ordinary shadows. So it’s happening already... [break][break] The shadow mage had just been entering town, a new magical broom in inventory. It was given to her as a reward from the old broom maker, the one who lived on the outskirts of Kikka. While going into the forest to fetch the required wood pieces, she had experienced something similar to this dark feeling. Thankfully she had not been alone in that mission, otherwise she would have probably come out with a highly disturbed and twisted state of mind. As for that dark mage—she never did get his name. Nonetheless, they had both faced some nightmares from their pasts, and she had seen her mother back there. Or rather, an illusion of her. [break][break] Even now, as she thought about it, a shudder went through the lithe form. Was it because of the sudden chill in the air, or the memory? Either way, the latter had seemed so real, and whatever the illusion did back there in the Deep Woods was something she did not want to experience again. However, she was sensing the same dark mana, the type that threatened to cloak and suppress her mind. She would have to guard herself well, otherwise it would lead her to imagine things that are not there, or things that have passed. [break][break] Her steps quickened, bringing the young woman to the main streets of Kikka. She kept a hand over her dagger, though something told her she might not be able to go against this darkness with physical items. Nonetheless, just like how the sound of the wheelbarrow had kept her grounded to reality back there in the forest, so did the familiar feeling of the smooth handle to her blade keep her mind intact. For all she knew, she needed to keep her sanity in check, and the best way to do that was to be in a group. Although she was not the type to hang around crowds, if it was going to keep her alive, she would do it, albeit reluctantly. [break][break] Already the darkening atmosphere was causing disturbances to her mana flow, and she could sense the growing fear in the air. Even her own shadows felt different in this oppressive sphere, and her vision was quickly being dimmed. There seemed to be some sort of commotion near the local church, so she attempted to make her way there, straining to see through the thick haze. [break][break] Whatever was coming, she was certain it was not going to be pleasant. Even so, Genesis was ready to fight whatever was about to happen. Ready to fight for her homeland and its surrounding towns. Ready to fight to restore the natural balance of life. Ready to fight for those who could not fight for themselves. [break][break] Little did she know what she was about to face...

“When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back.”
Hans traversed through the town of Kikka with his newly acquired broom safely strapped to his back. There wasn't much eventful happening, just people walking about going on with their daily routines. The sky looked nice and birds flew about, chirping their peaceful tunes. The merc had no planned destination, and just decided to walk about, get some fresh air, and perhaps find a job or two to do since he was low on Yul, an unfortunately common theme for the guy.
Just as he was thinking about his money problems, Hans stomach growled, causing him to stop in his tracks. Placing a hand to his stomach, the dark mage looked down at it before looking around to see if he could find a restaurant of some kind, and hopefully a cheap one...
The merc's eyes then set on a small cafe which he started to walk to. As he made it to the door and placed a hand on the handle, Hans stopped as he felt an odd shift in the atmosphere. The once warm temperature started to unnaturally lower with the sky above growing dark. "Hmm?" Hans just like the others nearby started to look up and witnessed darkness coating the once blue sky! This darkness felt different from his own...a lot more ominous which vaguely reminded the guy of his journey through that sinister deep forest with that shadow mage, the one he never got the chance to learn the name of.
The once vibrant town grew darker to the point that it was near difficult to see. Hans looked around, trying his best to see, but everything was starting to get blurry. Screams of panicking citizens could be heard, some of them bumping accidentally into the dark mage since they were just as blind. "Shit..." Gritting his teeth, the man started to use his sensory to help him see. His sensory wasn't too strong, but it was still good enough to help. He could sense the mana of the nearby fleeing citizens as well as one that dwarfed his own mana, a familiar mana signature...and a sinister one that he has never sensed before. Whatever this darkness was...it was unholy, enough to make the merc gasp lightly at how demonic it was.
Not knowing where to go or what to do, Hans decided to quickly make his way to the familiar mana signature which should lead him to the shadow mage he's previously met. With sword drawn instinctively, Hans maneuvered his way out of obstacles and people to reach his destination....unaware of what evil lurks ahead...

Valo Stark
"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
Kikka Valo's hometown, where he was raised, learned how to fight and also learned how to steal. Of course all before becoming a magic knight but walking back into his old home bought back many fond memories. Some of them good, some of them bad but Valo wouldn't change anything about them not one bit. He admired just how different things were when he lived here, now becoming a knight of Green Mantis his world was drastically different. Fighting and slaying monsters, evildoers, anything else to protect the people of Clover. When he was a young boy, he never imagined he would be doing such a thing. Even as an early teen he thought he would end up in some random jail cell, or roaming around Clover till the day he got caught. But things were much different now.
One thing that hasn't changed though was his mother, Valo's mother may have looked young and sweet and caring but when she said something she meant it. If she asked Valo to do something, it was always in his best interest to get it done. So here he was in Kikka using some valuable time off, doing what his mother had asked of him. Check on the house pet Momo, while she was away for the next few weeks. Momo was a a gold-billed magpie, a rare bird from the crow and jay / Corvidae family. A rare bird that Valo's mother absolutely loved, Momo has actually been in the family for years. So if anything happened to sweet old Momo, Valo would surely feel his mother's wrath.
He opened the doors to his old home, things just about looked the same. He checked in on his old room to see it for the most part left exactly how he left it, just a lot cleaner. The Green Mantis knight eventually made his way to his mother's bedroom and saw old Momo tucked in his large bird cage. But the little raven bird was acting much more different then usual, most times the bird is very active and hopping around. Usually jumping at the opportunity to be let out its cage to fly around the backyard. But little momo had it's little beady eyes, focused on the window looking outside. Not moving an inch, the puzzled Valo walked up to the cage. "Hey little guy, whats wrong? What you looking at?" Valo said looking up at the window and seeing nothing.
Valo looking even more confused, check it's food container and water it was all full. But moments after that Momo started flapping it's wings rapidly cawing over and over again. The confused Valo was caught off guard and bit startled. "Hey! Momo! Stop! Ok! I'll let you out!" he said opening the birds cage. As soon as the cage opened, Momo flew out and right out the open window high into the air as if it was running from something. The look of utter distress was written all over Valo's face. "Mom is gonna kill me." he said as he was about to hop out the window, and chase after Momo. He was focused on the little black bird with a long golden tipped tail. But soon his vision and overall sense of sight got a lot darker, he looked up and saw Momo flying along with other birds but his eyes widened when he saw just pure darkness begin to cover the sky. "What the-" the words barely escaping his lips.
"Mom is really gonna kill me." he said starting to walk. He could only see in short distances now, but could make do his total sight wasn't gone. There was a lot of noise though, screams and alike probably from the overall shock of whatever was happening. He assumed that the best plan right now, was to meet other people and he was bound to find others in the town. Most likely at the church.

Charles found himself in the town of Kikka. This was his first time ever at the town, though the black bull wasn't particularly the type of person to go to towns and will prefer to stay in his room slacking off the entire day. Today was a special occasion which required him to come to the town. Yesterday he received a letter from his parents that an old friend of his grandparent had an item he wanted to give to Charles. The item in question was a magical ring that was once used by his grandfather during his time as a Magic Knight. The ring was capable of increasing the user's physical abilities for a temporary amount of time by pouring mana into the ring. He arrived to the house and was given the ring from the man who lived at the house who he made sure to thank before leaving.
As the silver mage stepped out of the house and ready to head back to his squad's base. Such a plan came to an end the moment the black bull started to hear screams around the town began to turn dark, darker the usual to the point Charles was having a hard time seeing. Something definitely felt off, it was obviously magic, but the magic itself felt different, it felt sinister. The only time he felt something similar was when he went to the Witches Forest that was filled with corrupted mana beasts and monsters, but it was nothing compared to what he was feeling now. He wasn't able to tell what it was, but it felt off. It seemed like the darkness had covered the entire town which is something only a powerful magic user will be able to do. The silver mage walked down the streets of Kikka steadily prepared for any unexpected circumstances. Running wasn't a wise idea as he was barely able to see what was in front of him. Screams of people around the town panicking as he walked. He began to think and ask himself several questions in order to come down to a conclusion. Who was doing this? There was something that came to his mind, Daemons. He has heard of the Daemons, but he has never encountered one. There was no way he was able to prove this was the doing of a Daemon, but all the signs pointed to that. Dark and sinister magic, so far it seemed like it covered the entire town as they were no signs of light anywhere around the town which meant it someone or something powerful doing this. "What a pain in the ass..." The black bull just hoped that he wasn't the only one who will have to deal with it and hoped that they were more magic knights or capable people in this time.
Daemon or not, this was a clear threat to the town of Kikka. Something Charles will have to deal with the threat as a member of the Magic Knights, even if he liked it or not. Everything pointed out that this was going to be the hardest challenge yet for the black bull...

Elliot was not quite sure why she had come out to Kikka. She was barely a fighter, not a strong magic user, and had deep personal issues that kept her from really growing as her own person. So why, now, had she come all the way to this place to try and help? As far as the girl dressed as a boy knew there was no one here that she would know or recognize, and no one in this place that she had any kind of reason to endanger her own life for. Maybe her travels for work just made her subconsciously think of it as just a more dangerous mission for her to do.
Being inside had cut her vision down considerably, and having a weak sensory made it even worse for her. She felt lost, trying to find others amidst the screaming without screaming herself. The only thing stopping her was keeping herself set to appear to others as a male, voice and all, and it would not do to break down into tears and crying already. "Hello? Is there anyone else here that's trying to stop this? I can't see well and I'm not to good with sensory so I need assistance to group up with others." It was the normal voice she practiced for her image, though it did seem worried about the current situation as there was no reason to hide that part of her emotions. They just wanted to get with the rest of the possible group so that they could get through this without too many people meeting an unfortunate end or irreparable damage.
It had been at least an hour since Sven had decided to claim Kikka as his own and began to use his would-be subjects to amuse himself, it was rather dull in his opinion but still, he needed something to occupy his time until the main event got here as he knew it would, it always did after all. He had taken the seat inside the church held for a visiting high ranking clergy member to sit upon and watch over the congregation, one by one he had ordered the children be brought inside while the parents remained outside unaware what the Daemon was doing to them. This tormented both child and parent which was wonderful in his point of view as the children would cry begging for their mommies and daddies while the parents would plead for their children to be spared. Of course, he would spare them... well he would spare 'some' of them as he would need slaves to do the tasks he and his minions shouldn't have to such as building him a palace, tending to the crops and of course entertain him. He told the children if they could give him one good reason then they could be reunited with their parents and they would be spared of course he also told them they would have to remain very quiet and not make a sound until everyone had a turn. That if they made a peep when it wasn't their turn then their parents would die and it would be all their faults after each child spoke as to why they should be with their parents, those outside the church would hear a scream of a child they knew making mothers fall to their knees believing that their children were taking from them.
There were, of course, people who dare tried to enter the church and they soon would be screaming in agony as they triggered traps that had been placed before the darkness engulfed the town. Sven was many things but he wasn't stupid and so refused to leave things up to chance. By the end of time, seven men were dead thanks to triggering the traps and the psychological pain given to those who heard the inescapable screams of the children were too much for others to bear. They decided to make a sacrifice believing that they would be reunited with the children they loved so much, soon however those still around the church would find out the deaths were in vain as the church doors opened and each and every child ran out crying and grabbing for their parents, those who no longer had them being ushered by relatives and friends of the family to protect them. Soon enough Sven stood in the doorway a sinister grin on his face as he looked at the scared people of Kikka.
"Am I not benevolent, I decided to spare them all. You have wonderful children and they will be indeed put to good use, some may even one day earn a place to fight for me as one of my trusted army." he called out to the people it was then his eyes looked around "You better head off home my dear subjects and I suggest you do not come out until I tell you too or you might be killed, we wouldn't want that now would we." he feigned concern for their well beings but the people just turned to walk away doing what he told them to do. "You're forgetting something..." he growled to those who were there making them stop in their tracks as they tried to figure out what they were meant to be doing
"Bow you idiots!" called out a voice at the bottom of the stairs, instantly everyone bowed low on the ground afraid if they didn't bow as low as they could they themselves might feel their ire next "Good!" the voice said once more as people started to rise slowly.
"Oh, I forgot to mention we have some guests in town. You open your door to them or give them safety your family is dead and I will do it as slowly and painfully as possible starting with your youngest child." he warned the people who just said that they understood in unison before running off to seek shelter from the storm that was to come.
With the population gone, at least for now he smiled "Ito, Lilitu are the wells secure?" he asked his left and right hand who stood at either side of the bottom of the steps engulfed in shadow hiding their true appearances, as soon as they were addressed they took a knee "Yes my lord." The woman stated. "Very good, I feel the very weakest of our toy soldiers lets release the hounds to say hello." he spoke as he did the both stood and nodded "Don't interfere with them yet, there's much fun to be had and we don't want to break them to quickly." he said to the pair who both bowed and moved to do their tasks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Story:
While you have been inside the town you have heard screams of children in agonising pain regardless of where you are in town, the problem is you don't know where exactly the screams are coming from as they seem to be coming from all sides. The screams eventually come to a sudden stop as if a weight had been lifted but it is now deadly silent, eerily so. Some of your characters might be close enough to houses to see people running past you and into them, even if you try to talk to them they will ignore you, if you follow them they will slam the door in your face and demand you leave them and their family alone, that no one wants you there.
Eventually, the unsettling silence is pierced with ungodly noises as mana beasts are set loose, like the child's screams the growls are coming from every direction and so no one without a good sensory will not realise that they're approaching, added to that you can smell smoke and what can only be deemed as burning flesh. Elliot, brace yourself, you are the target and there is a half dozen of these things coming towards you specifically.
Children’s voices. Agonizing pain. Then, silence. It was eerie, and Artemis knew that this must be the work of the Daemon. Or was it? There was not way for the Vice Captain to ascertain what was truly happening.Instead, she knew she needed to concentrate. Her training and experience kicked in.[break][break]
Artemis would close her eyes, trying to get a feel of the town as she surveyed every nook and corner that she could with her latent sensory magic. She was known to be one of the more adept sensory mages within the Clover Kingdom, and her title as the Ki Master of the Clover Kingdom only supported her claim as being one of the most adept. It would help now, especially since her vision, at least a part of it, had been robbed from her. She would not be able to see as far as she could beforehand. [break][break]
“Daemons…” She whispered to herself. How could they have struck now, of all times. Artemis was not sure if there was any warning at all. No, there could not have been any sort of warning. If there had been, then the Captains and the Vice Captains would have been given some form of warning. There was also the fact that this was happening just after her dungeon exploration with Lydia and Qiao, having also met a Daemon within the bowels of that dungeon. “What are they up to now…”[break][break]
The thought was cut off by a presence. Multiple presences. Mana beasts? Possibly. Artemis would open her eyes now, turning towards the direction that she had felt them run towards. This group of malevolent beings were heading somewhere. A target? Possibly. Or maybe they were regrouping towards their master. Artemis would shake her head, her face scrunched up as she gave it a thought. If they were heading towards a target, then they must be protected; after all, they might be valuable to the Daemon. [break][break]
The contrary was more frightful. More dangerous. And certainly, it was more suicidal. Artemis was a woman who knew when to fight, and who knew when to run and find back-up. But could she run away now, of all times? The Green Mantis Squad was not known for their heroism. They were the eyes and ears of the Magic Knights, the ones who did the dirty work that no other Magic Knights Squads would dare do. It would sully their untarnished names, after all. [break][break]
"People look to the Magic Knights for one thing: the peace of the Kingdom. In order to preserve that, we'll keep fighting with everything we have." Artemis would mutter, “Isn’t that the saying?” It was and old phrase, passed down throughout the generations of Magic Knights, most notably said to those who would become Vice Captains and Captains. The possibility of the mana beasts leading her to the Daemon was true, yet, she could not run away. Not now. Artemis knew that alone, even at her rank as the Vice Captain, acknowledged by the Magic Knights as one of the strongest, she would not be enough. “Everything we have…”[break][break]
Her Grimoire came alight. She poured mana into the tome as she finally released her spell. [break][break]
“Moonsong.”[break][break]
Artemis would have her bow, Moonsong, in her hands. The weapon was made of water, yet glowed with an eerie light that is the element's reflective nature. The Vice Captain felt the weapon augmenting her speed, giving her the necessary boost as she finally was able to pinpoint the direction of the mana beasts she had been able to sense. She could not delay, and this weapon would not only give her a means to defend herself, but made sure she would get there swiftly.[break][break]
Artemis would then start running. The sight of a woman wearing the Green Mantis Magic Knights Squad Mantle, illuminated by the ethereal water-made bow, might have alerted those around her, the citizens and even Magic Knights who had not been able to find shelter just yet. The bystanders, at least those who knew about the Magic Knights, might have recognized the woman as the Vice Captain of the Green Mantis. Some might flee away, hoping to let the Magic Knights deal with the situation. Some might use it as a rallying cry, and follow the woman. All Artemis knew was that she needed to be prepared for the worst, and hope for the best.
COMBAT SUMMARY
[attr="class","polluxscroll2"]
TL;DR
Artemis used Moonsong. Her base speed is 20m/s, the spell adds 30m/s, making her run at a speed of 50m/s.
Name of Spell: Moonsong[break] Elemental Type: Water[break] Rank & Spell Type: Grand | Attack Creation & Physical Reinforcement[break] Range & Speed: 150 meters | 85 m/s | 115 m AOE[break] Mana Cost: 50 | 25[break] Stats Effected: +30 m/s, Blinds[break] Applicable Perks: Area of Triumph, Quick Shot, Full Blitz, Apex Predator[break] Description: A manifestation of a stronger mana, the bow is made to be the successor in power and speed of Aphrodite. The bow itself is made with water, though its wings are as sharp as a sword's blade. The bow is used in long ranged combat, the wings of the bow, however, can be used as pseudo blades. A manifestation of Artemis' mana, the string only shows when she makes a "pull-back" motion of drawing and aiming. This makes the bow into a pseudo double-bladed short spear when needed for close quarter combat. The bow itself can shoot more than one arrow, following ammo rules. The arrows can either pierce through enemies, or be used as an AOE attack by letting it burst in a shower of sharp dagger like water droplets, causing Grand level damage. At first hit, opponents are blinded by the water that hits their eyes. The blind effect only happens once per opponent. The bow also increases the speed of the user.[break]
[break] Genesis nearly tripped over a loose cobblestone on the street, and barely managed to catch herself in time. “Merde.” She muttered, cursing herself for her lack of sensory. It seemed like her vision was cut in half, and there was nothing she could do about it. That is, nothing that her eyesight could do. Idiot. She wanted to smack herself on the head for forgetting about her training. [break][break] Her ki training. [break][break] What was she doing, not putting her training into use? If her old mentor was here, he would be incredibly displeased that she was not putting her learning into application into her daily life. Especially now, when lives are at stake. She took a deep breath, grounding herself to reality and finding her core balance. Then she started feeling around, picking up the nearby flows of mana. The extent of her ki sensory was limited, but she was able to feel around further than her eyes could. There! She nodded once to herself, then took off running again. [break][break] The shadow mage stuck close to the houses on the side of the streets, not wanting to lose track of where she was. People were running past her, in the opposite direction. Bien, bien. Good. Where people were fleeing from, that was where she was going to go. However, using her ki and trying her best to move faster—those two are not working so well for her at the moment. The former, nonetheless, did pick up on something. [break][break] A powerful and glowing presence had whizzed by her, and she was astounded at its speed. For that quick split second, she sensed something familiar. Odd, since she had not met many people yet. Of what, she could not say, as the light was shooting past and beyond her before she could pick anything else up. Her gut instinct told her to follow the rapidly-disappearing light, and since they seemed to share similar destinations, the young woman obeyed. [break][break] From the outskirts of her mind, she started hearing screaming. Not just any type of screaming, but high-pitched and youthful cries. It seemed to come from all different directions, and it was the sound of pure terror—and its sudden silence spoke all too well of their lights being snuffed out. The redhead steeled herself. Whatever happened has happened, and what has been done is done. She wondered if this was somehow related to the disturbances she had felt previously. But no, she needed to concentrate. Besides the overpowering dark presence from earlier, there seemed to be something else coming. Her eyebrows furrowed in concentration and worry. Where was the source? Or, were there more than one? [break][break] All at once, the eerie stillness was broken. However, she could not discern what it was, only that there was a major shift in the air. Genesis’ hand felt for her dagger by her side. She was still moving, and getting closer to the commotion, it seems. This oppressive force felt like something that could breed and multiply in the absence of light. She could smell smoke, and her nose flared at the smell. Not the type of barbecues or good cooking, but of burning flesh. [break][break] Mana beasts? Perhaps that was what those ground-shattering noises were. She could only guess. However, her suspicions seemed to be pointing her to the right direction, as more and more mana presences started to gather at a certain location. Here she slowed down slightly, being more cautious the closer she neared the stifling presence of dark mana. The screams were much clearer now, as well as the stench. [break][break] Shwing! The sound of her dagger being pulled from its sheath was lost in the chaotic noises all around her, but she knew her blade’s voice well, and was empowered by its familiar presence. She might decide to let up on her ki sensing, since it was cutting into her speed too much. But, it would depend on what happened next, and she steeled herself for come what may.
“When you spend so long trapped in darkness, you find that the darkness begins to stare back.”
Despite his reduced vision, Hans continued to trail the familiar mana signature which belonged to the Genesis. The man's sensory wasn't too great compared to others, but at least he was still capable of sensing up to twenty meters away which he felt was good enough for now so long as he focused. Unfortunately for the merc, he wouldn't be able to keep that focus up for long.
Agonizing screams of children caused Hans to stop, nearly tripping over his own feet in the process. A look of shock on his face turned to a more painful expression as he looked around his dark surroundings. Wha-What is this?" he muttered with a hint of stress in his tone. Despite how distant and cold the dark mage comes off as, Hans still had a soft spot for children, and hearing these painful screams tormented the man. Unstrapping the flying broom from his back, Hans tossed it to the ground where it would then float a few inches up. Hans with his sword drawn, stepped onto the broom, and kept his balance.
But still the screams were everywhere, making it difficult for Hans to figure out where to go. This was torture, agonizing torture for Hans as he slammed his eyes shut in an attempt to gather his bearings, but it was just impossible! Gritting his teeth, Hans' entire body started to shake as he gripped harder onto the hilt of his sword while his other hand gripped onto the side of his head.
However, just as sudden as these screams manifested...it stopped, replaced with utter silence....
Realizing the sudden quietness, Hans slowly opened his eyes, his body loosening in the process. "It...stopped?" After all of the screams, this silence should be putting the merc at ease...but it wasn't. Something bad must've happened to them, or at least that's what Hans started to think. He then started to notice the citizens fleeing, heading into their homes or others buildings. They slammed their doors shut, those who would be in view of Hans not even bothering to look in his direction. He chalked this up as the civilians being more focused on protecting themselves or their loved ones which is something the merc couldn't fault them for. Yet, Hans has yet to even see who or what was truly causing all of this, only faintly feeling that dreadful mana signature.
Just as he was still trying to figure out what was going on, Hans' head perked up as he heard a voice in the darkness. "Hello? Is there anyone else here that's trying to stop this? I can't see well and I'm not to good with sensory so I need assistance to group up with others." is what they said. The man's head faced in the direction of where the voice came from. He couldn't see the source, but being able to hear them must've meant they weren't far. Still on his broom and now focusing on their mana, Hans flew towards the source while still within ground level and as he got closer, the man squinted his eyes as a figure started to come into view.
He didn't have time to call out to whoever this was however as the town was once again filled with noise, but it was not the sound of screaming, rather the sound of beasts....
"Not again..." the man muttered, looking around. Instinctively, Hans unstrapped the holster containing his grimoire, causing his spell book to float up in front of him and open. A dark aura manifested around it as it conjured up two ravens constructed from his dark element. Using his sensory, Hans continued to concentrate, staying alert on whatever else comes into his range. For now, all he could still feel is the other person's mana signature, but the man's brows would furrow as he picked up on at least two other signatures fast approaching...and they felt sinister.
"Percutiens!" Hans uttered, simultaneously gesturing his arm in the direction of these two mana sources. The two ravens were launched in that direction in an attempt to strike these unknown entities! But just as this happened, Hans' eyes widened as he felt at least four more of these things entering his sensory range and on top of that there was another...stronger mana signature heading in this direction at great speeds!
Something illuminated could be seen heading this way...but what could it be?
Battle: Hans used his Vulpes Corvum spell on the first two approaching beasts Spells:
Using their grimoire, the user conjures up a raven (an additional can be formed per twenty control gained) made out of darkness that flies idly by them with a length of twenty-six inches and a wingspan of four feet. Upon a spoken command of “Percutiens” or a gesture of their weapon, the user sends the bird flying at their target(s) exploding on impact, dealing blunt damage as well as knocking them back up to four meters (an additional five meters per ten power gained).
Items: Magic Broom and Dark Edge Notes: After everything went silent, Hans was close enough to Elliot to hear them and followed their voice and mana on his flying broom right before everything started to get noisy again. He then picked up on the first two mana beasts heading in Elliot's direction and fired a spell at them, unaware of the others at the time.
Charles kept making his way down the town with his vision reduced to half it made things harder for him to the point he considered it a pain in the ass. Whoever was doing this, that person probably knew that they were Magic Knights or any other capable mages in the town. The silver mage was one of those unlucky people who had poor sensory abilities, he was able to feel the powerful evil magical energy, but he was unable to pinpoint the exact location as it felt through the entire town. As the black bull carried on walking through the town trying to think about the situation and a possible solution. The first thing that came up to his mind was to rally up with any capable mages on the town or any Magic Knights if they were any. Being alone in this situation wasn't going to help.
Suddenly the screams of agonizing pain coming from inside the town. Those screams were significantly different from the ones before, it seemed like younger people screaming, children, but they weren't screaming in fear but in pain. He stopped from a moment and looked at his surroundings. He was in shock, his cool and laid-back behavior was close to non-existent. Charles didn't want to believe that those screams he just heard were the ones from children, but it was true... The fact that children were brought into this filled him with disgust, annoyance, and even rage. This was unusual behavior from his part, he couldn't help, but feel that way when children were getting hurt. The screaming then stopped, he wasn't able to pinpoint the exact location. The fact that screams stopped could mean two things, the children stopped getting tortured, passed out, or even died because their fragile bodies weren't able to tolerate the pain.
The black bull gritted his teeth and clenched his fist. Unstrapping his grimoire from his holster. The grimoire floated in front of him its aura emitting a light green color. "Silver Magic: Silver Owl. His hand aimed at the ground in front of him using his spell creating a silver owl in front of him. Kikka was a large town and with his vision reduced to hard, it was going to be hard to navigate it on foot. The screams he heard previously really pushed him to edge and made him lose his cool. He got on top of the owl and started to fly low around the town. His vision was reduced to half so he hoped he could at least see or even hear some movement around the area he was flying around. That was the best chance he had to find anyone, he had to rely on his sense of hearing and smell since his vision was diminished. He had poor sensory so trying to sense the mana signatures will just be a waste of time for him.
Charles closed his eyes trying to get in touch easily with his other senses. The area began to smell like smoke or burned flesh. It had a particular smell as if something nearby was on fire. That smell was combined with sounds of mana beasts that were let loose throughout the town. Once again the young magic knight was unable to determine the exact location of the sounds. It seemed like whoever was doing this was finally starting to make his moves towards any remaining people that we're unable to find shelter. This further lead him to believe that this was the doing of a Daemon.
The silver mage heard a familiar voice close to his location. As he was flying in a low altitude that was accompanied by the sound of mana beasts coming that way. He wasn't able to determine the exact location of that due to the fact that he could hear the mana beasts coming from the entire town. Opening his eyes Charles tried to look at the ground below him to see if he was lucky enough to spot anything or anyone. The sounds of a fight occurring nearby, it was probably someone who was fighting the mana beasts.
The area around him will suddenly light up a bit to his own surprise. He looked the direction the light was coming from and its source. Whoever did that helped him out by improving his vision a bit. There was no time to lose, while the light was still active Charles began to carry on flying from a low altitude. Looking at the ground below him he was able to spot a familiar figure, the person's grimoire. The person he spotted was Hans, but the black bull wasn't fully aware of that yet. The sound of more mana beasts approaching was evident. The page of his grimoire will flip as his vision was starting to diminish he aimed towards the direction where he heard the approaching mana beasts. "Silver Magic: Silver Swords of Lightning. Two swords appeared slightly above his shoulders and were sent towards the direction were Charles heard the mana beasts, he also tried to make sure the spells didn't hit the person below him. The two swords stabbed the ground and releasing a lightning area of effect spell. Even though he wasn't able to tell from where the mana beasts were coming from he hoped he was right about their direction and managed to hit at least one of them with his AoE spell.
Valo Stark
"Don't need a reason to seek strength."
The never ending color of darkness and lack of full sight, started to make the Green Mantis magic knight feel uneasy. More so because this was happening where he grew up. With every passing second it only further guaranteed something was terribly wrong, Valo tried to deny it but it was obvious this was some sort of an attack. He tried to flicker with some of his fire, causing a small flame to produce in his hands hoping to add to his sight. It was all for naught as his flame did little to nothing to help him see any clearer. "Tch, what kinda magic is this." he said to himself desperation in his tone. Valo stuck close to homes, all doors closed and locked he tried to peek into windows to see if anyone was inside, anyone that he could help or that could help him find some answers. He saw no one, as he continued his path towards the church. The uneasiness and desperation within the young knight grew more and more.
Then it struck, the sounds and cries of children in terrible pain the sound of it made Valo's eyes widen his heart beating fast like it never had before. "What....what is that?? Children???" he shouted to himself. Valo caught in utter disbelief and growing sorrow, the hot headed and brash headed Valo was stuck and now more desperate than he ever had been. He started running full speed straight ahead, no destination now just running in the path of where he thought he heard the screams coming from. "Please...please no..." he said faintly trying to see something, find anything, anyone he could help. But stopped again when he heard more and more screams coming from all over, in every direction. "Please! Anyone!! Let me help! I can help stop this!! Not children! Anyonee!! Is there anyone here, anyone around!" he started to shout over and over, his eyes getting teary. His shouts started to sound more like cries of utter desperation. The usual head strong and cool minded, magic knight was cracking. The overall sense of hopeless he felt inside his own home town started to weigh him down. The horrifying screams stopped suddenly, causing Valo to looked around quickly. His sight still poor but his hearing still effective.
He started to run again and heard the sounds of people running into their homes, slamming their doors, he was able to see some just barely. "Hey! I can help! Are you alright!?" the desperate Valo said over and over again only to be met with silence and people that wouldn't even look at him. He started to notice some familiar faces, people he knew and grew up with. He ran towards a young women and her child, they scurried into their house slamming the door in Valo's face. "Hey I just wanted to know, if you're ok. I can help...if you let me...please." Valo said placing his head on the door knowing his attempt was useless. He just heard their footsteps running away into the farthest and safest corners of their home. Tears started to fall down the young man's face.
Valo took a deep breath, now wasn't the time to feel sorry for himself, to feel weak or useless. He had to act to keep moving until he saw something, anything that could lead him somewhere. Valo remembered his meditation that he was taught here in this very town, he took deep breaths and let them out. Centered his mind and did his best to rid himself of all anxiety and desperation that he was feeling. He could not go down like this, not without trying, not without a fight. "It's ok...There must be others and we'll stop this. I promise. Stay inside and stay safe." he said into the door, speaking to the mother and child he only hoped they would hear him.
He turned away now facing the open space, he couldn't rely on sight he knew that. Now was the time to focus on other means, hearing, smelling and sensory. As he focused on these other senses, a slight smell of something burning hit his nose. The burning wasn't a familiar one, it almost smelt like burning flesh. Valo's anger grew more so, but he was able to remain calm for the most part considering. His sensory wasn't the best but he had been putting more time training it so it wasn't completely useless. He felt a few different mana signatures that were close by, two that were familiar, and others not so much. But one of them that was familiar to him was approaching rapidly, and the faster it approached the more he was confident in who it was. His Vice Captain Artemis, a feint light started to illuminate still very hard to make out but it was there. He knew his Vice Captain well enough, her sensory and ki abilities together would alert her of his presence easily. As for the other mana signature, it was approaching a lot more slowly the fire wizard was familiar with it, but not confident enough to put a name to it.
Aside from that Valo prepared himself as many other signatures started to approach, some that were similar to a mana beasts and a few of them.
As if in response to her call she would hear the screaming of children before it just suddenly stopped. She was not sure which was worse, the utter silence or the tormented screams of the children beforehand. Were they dead? Was it just a trick? There was really no way to find out unless she came across it and she was dearly hoping it was just an illusion of the magic going on here. After the deafening silence there would be the ungodly sounds that she had been taught were mana beasts. The sound seemed to come from everywhere, and with her limited vision and sensory she had no clue just how many there were. It was clear they were coming for her, however, when she began to catch the smell of burning flesh. Repressing a gag, Elliot would summon forth three golems with her spell. "Attack the mana beasts when they arrive." Elliot would draw her sword, preparing to swing at any that might come at her with the ashen blade.
Soon she would hear the sounds of others coming in her direction. Were these beasts only after her? If so, why? Was she the easiest target of all those around? Was she just the closest inconvenience to whomever was in charge? Either way, the situation was not in her favor. For now Elliot Woodcock would just have to hope she didn't get fully ambushed before others got here to help fight off all of the mana beasts. At least with the predator golems around her, in a triangle formation as they all moved together, she was able to keep safe for the most part.
Description:
Mokhir is an ash golem with a monstrous appearance. The upper half is semi-humanoid with a barreled chest and thin limbs that end in what look to be clawed hands. The lower half is a cloud of ash, making it hard to see past it as it moves. One eye is glowing red hot, the trail of smoke and flame leaking out as it chases down enemies designated for it.
Sven sent out his senses to see how his toys had reacted to the sound of the children screaming in what everyone thought was agonising pain and chuckled to himself in delight. It seemed that it had hit a nerve with everyone which filled his dark soul with the greatest of delights. He couldn't understand how they could allow themselves to be the slaves to such pathetic emotions, they would be so much stronger, so much more useful to him if he could remove such feeble notions from them "I guess, they must learn like the pathetic mortals they are." he sighed almost disappointed but then grinned as he looked to the darkened kingdom he had made for himself "I will be a merciful ruler and will teach them the true way, the way to become truly strong... how they can ascend..." he grinned menacingly "Such a wonderful, magnificent lesson this shall be! They will be so happy that I helped them, I am sure of that!" he said looking to his right and left hand who remained quiet as their lord seemed to speak to himself, they knew better than to sour the archdaemon's mood when he was excited the way he was. Sven knew between the six that seemed to have been in his realm he was trying to get a sense of them, with his sensory he could tell that one was stronger by far than others and realised that they could be trouble but then it wouldn't be much fun if there wasn't a challenge, besides he only wanted or needed the strongest to serve him.
The trio was in no way trying to hide their presence in fact the allowed them to feel, however, like the screams he projected his presence throughout the shadow so the group would feel it all around so there would no easy way to pinpoint their location. As far as he was concerned hide and seek wouldn't be to much fun if it was overly easy for his toy soldiers after all so threw them a new curveball. He happily took his seat once more his hand going onto his clenched hand as he watched the show unfold, for now, he had no reason to worry about them, they were merely pawns at this point and barely that in his eyes so he and his generals just sat in wait to see what would happen next as the group seemed to follow the energy of the mana beasts knowing full well what they looked like and what they were, where completely different "Perfect, they are taking the bait and coming together as I have planned." he said to the pair that stood at either side behind his apparent throne, they noticed he was giddy "Yes my lord, you are wise." Ito said obediently, Lilitu, on the other hand, was concerned but trusted her master's judgement and so kept her thoughts to herself, in honesty she believed it was ill-advised to allow them to meet, that they would be weaker apart but it wasn't her call and she knew her place, then again she didn't want to feel the ire of his anger.
Sven watched as the group attacked his 'pets' and clapped his hands in glee, he knew they would be destroyed but he honestly didn't really care. Their job was done as far as he was concerned, still, they had yet to find the child that had been chosen to be saved and so didn't have the information they child had. "Tick tock... Tick... tock... the clock of a child's life going down ever faster..." he said, his cryptic message being broadcast all over the town "Wait too long and the blood of that little girl will be on your hands..." he taunted the group "Oh... wait... wasn't it a boy that was saved? No... no... no... it was definitely a little girl..." he said his tone showing amusement as he seemingly argued with himself "Regardless of its gender, wait too long and its blood will be on your dainty little hands, won't that be wonderful." he chuckled letting them know that there was now a new challenge and one with a high cost "Oh! And as to not make it too easy for you all, I've hidden the child's mana signature on top of that..." the shadows got that much darker making it even harder to see, in fact, the entire place got completely silent as if their sense of hearing was removed from them. It, of course, hadn't been but now they could only hear things barely other than his voice which sounded normal.
To make things additionally troublesome he grinned "Lilitu north, Ito South work counter-clockwise, don't interfere with them and start setting traps... listen for more orders to come." he ordered the pair calmly the two bowed and quickly ran off still enshrouded in the darkness of their master allowing them to move without being seen in the current darkness, they also knew due to their energies being projected through the darkness it would make them harder to track that way also.
Battle Phase:
The mana beasts are just getting to Elliot as they pull out their ash sword and get ready to defend themselves and are about to pounce but this is short-lived as Hans attacks two of the six mana beasts. Hans easily takes care of two that let out an ear shrieking scream as they seemingly die. Charles too releases a devastating attack that easily takes out the final four and they too release out a deathly scream as they seemingly pass as this is an aoe Elliot is also caught in the crossfire and takes intermediate damage to his mana shield. As the mana beasts seemingly stop moving an illusion is dropped and what is seen is six children barely clinging on for life their flesh burned.
Story:
The group has finally come together and this has made Sven happy as he wanted the challenge of the group, not the individuals themselves. The burning flesh smell is still in the air however when Sven speaks to the group it seems like his voice is coming from nowhere but everywhere as is his and his two generals energies making it harder for them to be tracked but not impossible. He has notified you there is a child's life on the line and that their life is quickly shortening, he did say it was female but then changed it to male, only to turn it to female once more not really giving you any hints. To make things worse he has hidden the child magical signature so you can use that to track them but even this was boring to him so he has deepened the darkness of the shadows. As the shadows become darker still the group's sight is once again halved as is their hearing.
Ito and Lilitu have been dispatched to start setting traps around the city while the group has been tasked with finding a child that has vital information for the group. It is up to you how you proceed but you have only two rounds to find this child and there are now traps. Best of luck.
