[attr="class","haniaimage"]❝I hear a song of woe shadowing our past in sorrow.❞
[attr="class","haniascroll"]Recently the Wizard King had made an announcement that had put the entire kingdom on edge, he had to admit since he had heard the news his triggers had been in overdrive. He hadn't told anyone because well there was only one person who kind of knew about them. His sister, Lydia. The last thing he wanted to do was have her worried about him when she had just been named as one of the three captain's to take on the threats coming their way, more than that, he didn't want to be sidelined. It wasn't for honour or love of the people he wanted to fight, it was merely because he was one of the strongest mages within the kingdom and he wanted to help protect his home and the people within it. He had been dealing with these triggers his whole life and he wouldn't allow their increased frequency from stopping him from tending to his duties.
He needed time away from people so he could come up with a plan of action, he had heard of traders, merchants and travellers going missing. It was like that damned forest all over again, this time however he had heard of a survivor in the town of Sosshi. That was good at least, the only issue was he was concerned about the condition of the survivor's mind. There was a lot the mind could take but what they had been through was most likely traumatic, he didn't want to cause unneeded pain to them but knew without their help then he wouldn't be able to prevent others from going through the same thing. Of course, that was if they were as lucky as this person to survive what had happened. The thought also came to him that they may have survivor's guilt.
He saw how it affected his sister and Alyssa thanks to Raque and even though he could do nothing to protect Ai he also felt survivors guilt as he believed he should have died that day instead of her. He wanted to help those that had perished from whatever that threat was, find peace and allow the survivor to move past whatever had happened. He put a letter on his sister's desk in the headquarters allowing her to know what he was doing and where he would be. At that moment all it was was information gathering but it could lead to something else. He knew his sister would understand and would file it as him being out on a task so he wouldn't be placed on another mission, he was also wondering if Chisana would have heard about it and meet him.
There had been rumours about Kikka that followed his friend, but, if they were true then there would have been no chance in hell he'd still be a knight let alone his family being nobles. He put a pin in that train of thought, as the only person who would be able to give him that information would be Chisana himself; who seemed to have oddly went missing but there would have been several reasons for that. He left the Crimson Lion's headquarters and started the walk to Sosshi at a steady pace as he thought of the many different ways this could go wrong. This was a situation that had to be dealt with gingerly, although, he knew the news must have reached other squads by now so he wondered if there would be another person joining him. He was concerned about the person or people he may need to deal with but that was an issue that he would have to deal with if the issue actually arose.
Rank & Element: Junior ¦ Light Class & Type: Relic ¦ Accessory (bracelet) Magic Specializations: Physical Reinforcement ¦ Healing Appearance & Lore: A simple bracelet made out of reinforced glass with an opalite charm dangling from it almost like a pendulum, that gives off a dull light during the day and a bright light during the night preventing any natural shadow from forming.
There is nothing of major historical importance or deep story into where this item came from. The white-haired heir of the Ravencrest family has suffered from terrible day and night terrors since he was young and still does to this day. When asked what is wrong he brushes it off telling people not to worry it was a condition he had. He will never go into the terrible things he sees, in fact, he personally wishes he could forget he quickly realized that his perfect memory was a double edge sword and at times he truly wished he didn't have it.
His elder sister Lydia was the first to realize that it happened more when he was in an emotional state or surrounded by darkness. She also realized that he refused to sleep unless every light source he could find was active or he would sleep outside under the sun during the day, this wasn't optimal as he was to be trained to take over the family if anything were to happen to Lydia. Still, there wasn't much anyone could think to do to help him as he refused to open up but even if they could that came with a different set of hurdles they had to get over. Hania earlier in his life wouldn't take things from people due to his treatment before being adopted.
It took a while but Lydia finally found a way to help her younger brother, she had a crystal made with light inside and told him to use it when he sleeps. She said it was hers and she just wanted to see if it would help. He was reluctant but she said it only had to be a few days so he accepted. Throughout those few days, he slept somewhat peacefully so it was clear that it helped but not enough, she could only guess that the light wasn't strong enough. She realized this would be fine for a normal child afraid of the dark but it was clear to the pink-haired woman that this wasn't a normal situation.
She personally designed what she believed would help him the most, she chose the materials, their appearance even the opalite that dangles from it. As the bracelet was being made she slowly started to imbue her own element into the glass beads and the opalite as the former was created and the latter was shaped. It took close to a year to complete but Lydia seen it as something that should be done slow and steady, this was to make sure that it was done right the first time and that no matter what it would be near indestructible for whatever he may face in life.
On what is now classed as Hania's eighth birthday after a certain incident happened, she gave him a box, within it laid the bracelet. He was told to keep it with him always as she would be there to keep the darkness at bay and watching over him so he could be at peace while he rested. From that moment he has always kept it with him even if he hasn't always worn it.

Another mission, but one closer to home. Kusa had been busy over the past few weeks fulfilling his mandate as a Junior Magic Knight. Some situations were easy to rectify, while others tested his ability as a mage. None the less it affirmed what he already knew, that his proficiency with mana needed vast improving if he wanted to serve his station. Before departing the headquarters of the Black Bulls he equipped himself with a breathable attire consisting of ankle length pants with a matching colored long sleeved undershirt. To complement his ensemble he pulled a light covering over his head which served to keep his long hair kempt while offering some form of environmental protection from his face. A few wooden bangles were strapped over his ankles, thighs, wrist and neck, serving as a kind of binding to keep his clothes from viciously shifting while executing missions. Finally he draped the ebony robes of his Order over his shoulder, finalizing his uniform.
As he stepped out the door he clipped his waist bound holster followed by his black covered Grimoire. On the opposite clip he slid on a magically imbued lantern, an item he was sure he wouldn't need but equipped regardless. It was always better to walk the path of caution. With his equipment check completed he descended the steep stairs of his Orders Headquarters, stating his farewells before exiting the building. He'd dressed appropriately for the days weather as the overcast sky hovered above. There was potential for it to turn either way, but he was prepared for either scenario. The Town of Sosshi was his desired destination and apparently where a surviving member of a failed expedition remained until a Knight followed up with their investigation. Because of their proximity to the mission the Black Bulls were advised to send a member forward to assist in completing this particular request. This time Kusa volunteered to go, rather than being forcefully nominated to participate. His reasons were simple. He needed to get stronger. As a Common born Elf with a lower tiered Grimoire he needed to put in extra effort to match the more talented members within the Magic Knights. Where a large majority were naturally gifted with mana manipulation or granted rarer magics, he was almost considered the lower rung of its candidates and required something different to differentiate his usefulness from the rest. And unlike many Knights he'd possessed almost no talent for offensive spells, prompting instead to offer unwavering support to those in the front lines.
Needless to say the Bulls Captain was initially hesitant to send Kusa along. After all he had stronger subordinates that possessed a higher chance of successfully completing the mission. Were it not for Kusas insistence he may have sent one of his more senior Knights to assist in the investigation. But it was the first time the Elf had volunteered his services, and it was a request the Captain could not deny. The transit to Sossei was thankfully short. Previous missions saw him travel as far North as the Forsaken Regions, and as far south as the Capitol reached. It was refreshing to simply stroll down the road and arrive where his mission required him. The contents of his assignment explained that there was a survivor waiting in the small town, and that is where Kusa aimed to go.

[attr="class","haniaimage"]❝I hear a song of woe shadowing our past in sorrow.❞
[attr="class","haniascroll"]The walk had been a long but enjoyable one for the white-haired mage, he had left before dawn as to make sure that he would reach his destination by foot little before eleven that morning. He had training with Arata and Victoria that morning but left a message that he was investigating something. He knew that the lack of training with the pair meant it would be rescheduled for double training or he would end up with a gauntlet one day in the near future. He didn't really mind either outcome, with the royal knight exams coming up in the not too distant future he needed to be pushed past his normal limits. He of course stopped when he needed to and gained water and food when he entered a town before continuing. It wasn't like he was hurting for hydration he could just make an icicle if needed after all.
Soon enough he entered Sosshi and looked around the area, he knew that this would have reached other squads so thought that possibly that at least one would be in the area. He could tell right away that he stuck out like a sore thumb, he was a flowing white silk hanfu with an ice blue and silver hem. Everyone around him was wearing well-worn cotton clothing in the area, it was then he saw someone. Getting closer he recognised the mantle, it was a Black Bull. He had only ever interacted with one of the squad and they got on quite well, but then they bonded over the love of gathering knowledge. He still believed the squad, overall, was a menace that really shouldn't be around but that wasn't his call to make. Taking a moment to gather himself for whatever chaos or disdain that may be thrown his way, he moved towards the black bulls mage.
"Greetings." he said his left hand going to his chest, his right hand was a little away from his body with his palm faced towards Kusa as he bowed just slightly. "My name is Hania, I'm a member of the Crimson Lions." he began as he stood straight once more his eyes making contact with the other. "I was curious, are you here because of the disappearances of travellers, traders and merchants?" he asked his voice was stoic and his face showed nothing to the other. Soon enough an ice-blue and white phoenix-like bird landed on his left shoulder. "If not I am truly sorry to disturb you and will be on my way, however, if you are might I suggest that we perhaps work together to end this mystery." he wasn't going to force the other to work with him.
Of course, he was pretty sure he had seniority even if not in the same squad but it would be bad for inter-squad relations and he may upset his friend if he pulled such a thing. "I know where the survivor is being held and treated, but, this whole situation needs to be treated gingerly and with kid gloves." he wasn't meaning that the other was incompetent but rather that they would be walking into a minefield and one wrong move could shut the survivor down for days if not weeks. He was pretty sure it would also mean that those treating them would instantly ask them to leave. This was something that Hania himself could do without as it would set back his task, he would also end up getting a lecture from Winter about his lack of empathy if he did such a thing.
For now, however, he needed to wait to hear from the other before he could decide what his next move would be.

The vermillion robes of the Crimson Lions, along with the finely made vestments, defined itself amidst the surrounding garment of cotton and cloth. It was an understatement to say he stuck out like a sore thumb. Not only did those of Nobility wear exquisite clothing, they also possessed an air of authority whether intentional or not, giving those of lower birth a feeling of inferiority or unease. Since birth common borne were indirectly taught that they were 'lesser beings' in comparison to their richer brethren which created an obvious rift between the two classes. For Kusa this was normal life. That changed when he donned the dark mantle of his Order.
Kusa turned his emerald gaze towards the approaching Lion, immediately knowing his identity. Hania Ravencrest, and apparent Heir to the Family. Kusa had seen him around in an official capacity, but the two had never worked together. And why would they? Hania was an up and coming name within his Squad while Kusa was a nobody, a mage who spent the majority of his time training his inferior magic. There was no need for introductions, Hanias reputation proceeded him "I know who you are Master Ravencrest. I daresay half the Kingdom does. Welcome to our humble town." his eyes briefly looked around him, finding there was no one else there. No entourage, no guards....nothing. "What brings you all the way North?" Hania proceeded to ask him if he was here due to the string of missing merchants, travelers and traders. Before the Lion could apologize Kusa found a smirk creep up the side of his face, prompting a chuckle to escape his lips "How astute. It only makes sense. Our headquarters are closely located making us the obvious choice for responding to his request-" the Elf briefly thought about the distance Hania would have to travel from the heart of the Capitol to Sossei. By no feat was it a casual walk to the park but one with the right magic could gap that distance in a breath. Since another Knight from a different squad had also responded, it stood to reason that someone didn't quite have faith in the Bulls capacity to resolve the matter. It was a thought he kept to himself. He continued with his sentence "-but the more the merrier. I don't think I have the authority to deny your proposed collaboration anyway."
The dark skinned Elf extended his hand out to his side as a gesture "I'll follow your lead then" he waited for Hania to proceed before following. Despite the unofficial inter squad indifference towards one another, Kusa understood the need for hierarchy. As a lower ranked member of the Magic Knights across the board, he was expected to follow the lead of his seniors especially when serving in an official capacity for the Kingdom. While on duty he'd leave all personal grudges aside, however minor, and execute his duties. As a Commoner and orphan he had a lot more to prove.

[attr="class","haniaimage"]❝I hear a song of woe shadowing our past in sorrow.❞
[attr="class","haniascroll"]Hania looked at the other with his piercing ice-blue eyes, he knew for a fact the way nobles held themselves was quite off-putting to some people, but then, that also came down to the rank of that noble's house and the noble themselves. Hania didn't exactly hold an air of authority but more an air of formality around him, although, he could see why the two could be mistaken for the other especially by people who didn't understand the subtle differences between the two. He had been quite fortunate to land within his family and worked hard to maintain the visage of what the house Ravencrest stood for. This of course rubbed quite a few people up the wrong way, but then he couldn't help stupidity. Hania's stoic ways were just how he was to everyone, he, of course, was warmer to the few he got on with.
He was eighteen years old and he liked exactly eight people, he even dared to call one of them a personal friend. The other seven, one of them was his sister Lydia while the others six were like family to him. Other than that he tended not to really interact with people as he saw them as distractions that he neither needed nor wanted. "There is no reason to be so formal, besides, I really do dislike being called master anything even if it is due to formalities." he almost shuddered but managed to prevent himself from doing so "It makes it seem almost as if I own you and where I am a noble I am not a slaver." his voice had remained neutral, or at least it had seemed that way. If Kusa had known him better he would have noticed the very subtle undertone of venom at that notion.
He was irritated by that mere thought more so as he had spent time with people who were dead set against slavery. "If half the kingdom knows who I am, then it will be because of my sister or reading fashion magazines." he said shaking his head, he couldn't believe that losing a bet had ended up starting a modelling career for him. Then again as he kept being told be it from June Silva's teasing or from the wraith Chi, he was quite a beautiful male. He didn't see himself as such, he was filled with self-loathing and hate but he hid both deep within himself. "It is not the first time I have been in Sosshi, my squad had a vacation here not too long ago." he confessed, that was a time he honestly didn't want to relive for a multitude of reasons. One of them was the clothing he found himself wearing.
"Thank you nonetheless though." he said just before the other asked a question "It is awfully rude not to introduce yourself to someone you will most likely be working with." he said, his voice hadn't seemingly changed tone at all from when he had first started to talk to the other. He would leave it there but the other did have a valid concern as to why he was within the town. "There are rumours of merchants, traders and even travellers going missing and that there had been a survivor. I came here of my own volition to investigate what was going on. I wish to help those who are still missing if they are still alive and if not, I want the one who caused their deaths to face justice so that the dead and their loved ones may find peace." it really was as simple as that.
"It was a wonderful walk from the headquarters to Sosshi. I beat my last time by two hours." he commented showing he hadn't taken any form of transport or used spatial magic to get there, it was true he could have but the white-haired male tried not to rely on convenience if he could help it. "I can get here in eight hours by walking taking out time I stopped for normal things, so I think if I was to run without any spells being used I could likely get here in half that time." he wouldn't know until he tried to run it, perhaps he could do that on his way back. That was something to think about after the task at hand. "In any regards, I wasn't sent here formally." informed the other.
"I left a note on my vice-captain's desk letting her know what I was doing and would report back after things were put to rest." His family were well known to put the well-being of the kingdom above all else, right now there was an unknown threat and so he wanted to take it out. He knew that Lydia would understand and would mark it as an official request if there was paperwork for it, by the sounds of it there was so he didn't have to worry about that. If anything this just saved her time on allocating it to someone to deal with. "Well, as I said I am not here in an official capacity at the moment so you could decline my request to do this together, however, I do believe it would be foolish to do so as we don't know the enemy ahead." he knew on that they could both agree, it was a bad situation.
He started to walk towards the hospital not saying much else, he knew nothing about the other other than they were a member of the black bulls, this included their name. That bothered him and why it was one of the first things he had brought up after he had addressed the whole 'master Ravencrest' issue. That still irked him to no end but it didn't show.

Kusa winced at the Lions reprimand regarding introduction and etiquette. It wasn't as if he was being rude, but neither was he being polite. "I'm nobody" was what he wanted to say. After all, he wasn't that far from the truth. An orphan who was born of Common blood and on the lower ranks of his Order. Instead he replied "My name is Kusa." He withheld his last name. There were only a few who in the Kingdom who he revealed that too and there would have been a few less if those details weren't required for his registration into the Magic Knights. It was one of the few things he possessed that was actually his, and he gave it out sparingly. Usually those he truly trusted was given his full name.
Hania went on to explain that he wasn't exactly here on an official capacity and that to add to his ruse of being incognito he chose to discard obvious things such as transport. He was here to dispense justice in the names of the families who suffered from their missing loved ones. Common borne or not, Hania genuinely cared. It was refreshing, certainly amidst the stigma which hung over the reigning Squads. While there were certainly some who joined the Order to protect the Kingdom and its citizens, there were equally as many who joined for prestige, money and fame. They saw the Knights as an opportunity to elevate their own interests and often performed their duties......when the right people were looking. But here stood a member of the Crimson Lions ready to help those who lived half a Country away from the Capitol.
Kusa held his hand up, shaking his head at Hanias suggestion of refusal. Even the Elf wasn't so prideful that he'd turn down such sure fire help "No, I'm no idiot. Besides....you've just walked 8 hours. Can't have you walking all the way back. As Junior of this temporary team, I'll take your lead. After you."
As he followed Kusa reviewed the information of this particular request. As Hania stated, various merchants and traders had been reported missing and the drop in trade had begun to effect the livelihoods of the smaller Towns. Apparently one of the survivors had found themselves in Sosseis Hospital. He wondered if they would be able to extract any useful information, especially since they had no other leads to solve this particular mystery. Kusas eyes were still on the dossier "This doesn't say how many suspected persons have gone missing. Nor is there any familiar pattern in these disappearances. Spices, Gold, Food. Even animal Feed. I can't make heads or tails from this limited information."

[attr="class","haniaimage"]❝I hear a song of woe shadowing our past in sorrow.❞
[attr="class","haniascroll"]Hania looked at the other as he seemingly winced when he reminded the other that he had been rude not as he hadn't introduced himself in return when Hania had. "There is no need to wince or flinch you realize." he commented to the other, he didn't believe he had been threatening in any way, merely commenting that he would like to know the name of the person he was currently talking to. "It is a pleasure to meet you Kusa." he didn't show any deceit in his words, there was no reason too after all the white-haired heir was known for not sugar coating things at the best of times. There were, of course, reasons and places he would 'play nice' with others but outside of that he liked to speak as he preferred. The issue was he then muzzled himself as what he thought could get his family into a lot of trouble.
He didn't mind that the other hadn't given his last name as Hania himself often didn't give it, to him it was nothing more than a way to irritate potential allies and put a target on his back from potential enemies. In his mind, when he was doing a task his last name meant little in the grand scheme of things, what mattered was that he knew who he was working with or at least could message them if they got separated or the other required aid. He noted how his words had caught the other off guard, he was starting to wonder if it was a common thing for those of common birth to believe ill of nobles and more reputable squads. He never had that problem with Chisana, all be it his friend was a lesser noble but even by his own admission he was little better than a commoner.
"You realize that not all nobles are terrible people right? There are, of course, some of us that look down on the less fortunate just like there are some less fortunate that would do the same to those in the same standing." he said as he moved towards the hospital "Just as there are some magic knights that use their position and prestige for the wrong reasons, it honestly doesn't matter the squad there is always going to be a few bad eggs." he said, this, of course, was his own personal opinion. He believed that the Black Bulls were a nuisance but it didn't mean that they were any less devoted than the Crimson Lions at taking care of their kingdom. Just they tended to be more like a sledgehammer rather than a scalpel so perfect if you didn't want anything standing at the end of the skirmish.
Hania stopped to look at him "I never said you were an idiot, nor would I ever call you one unless it was truly warranted. This, isn't one of those times." he explained, it was clear by his words even though his tone was stoic that he wouldn't really do that to anyone unless he believed it was called for. For all he was blunt he knew that speaking his thoughts would get him into trouble more often than not. "It wouldn't be the first time I walked for eight hours and I doubt it will be the last, it is a good way for me to get some much-needed peace and align my thoughts." he informed the other as if the walk was just an everyday thing. "It's also a good way to end up in places I may not end up otherwise."
With that, he turned back around and once again headed to the hospital allowing the other to take his words whichever way he liked. "This is why we must talk to the survivor, they have the information that will not be in the reports." he explained entering a small hospital building and heading to the reception. "Excuse me, might we bother you for a moment miss." he said to the woman doing paperwork at the other side of the desk. He put his hand to his heart with his right slightly away from his body as he bowed as he did before. "Y... yes? Is there something I can help with?" the young woman looking no more than perhaps nineteen, blonde hair emerald eyes dressed in a simple green dress replied. "There are rumours of a heinous incident happening near here but our records are inco-" "You are talking about the young boy?" the young woman cut in.
A normal noble would see red for such an action being done but Hania merely nodded "Exactly. We must talk to them to find out the information we lack. Is there any way that we might be able to talk to them." he asked his voice soft almost warm as he spoke to her, the woman at first seemed hesitant "I don't know if that is wise, he's been a wreck since he got here." the woman said Hania smiled "Please, trust us. We will help him find peace." he continued the woman bit her bottom lip as she contemplated the white-haired male's words. Nodding she stood and walked down a hallway, Hania looked at Kusa "We should follow." he said following the woman down several corridors to a room seemingly away from everything, this he found odd.
"He gets startled by even the smallest noises so we've put him in an area where only those who tend to him go." she whispered, he nodded showing he understood. It made complete sense, after likely hearing and seeing what he had the last thing he would want would be around such things. The woman opened the door "Laric, there are two people who have come to spend time with you okay?" she said allowing Hania and Kusa to enter. Hania looked at a boy no older than seven or eight who was hugging his knees rocking at the furthest corner away from the door. "Hello Laric, my name is Hania and this is my friend Kusa. We're magic knights." he began moving to be sat on his knees by the door "We've heard something very bad happened to you and came to spend some time with you." he said his voice delicate almost like how one would imagine an older sibling or father talking to a younger person.
He would wait for the young boy to make some movement before he would continue with this, he hadn't expected a child to be the lone survivor. Had it been an adult it would have been difficult but manageable, it being a child made the minefield they were already facing that much more difficult to navigate.
"I've met some decent people of Nobility, true enough. But on the opposite end of the scale I've met people of position and power treat their "lessers" as vermin." Kusa followed Hania towards the hospital. Upon arrival an attendee was at the front desk, performing her daily duties with stacks of parchment partially obscuring her view, making an almost comedic display as she struggled to peer over her towering workload. As the Crimson Lion spoke Kusa felt his eyebrows unintentionally raise which soon changed to a small chuckle. Despite Hanias insistence that not all Nobility were alike, they all seemed to possess the gift of language as he weaved the nurses decision through verse and word.
Not too soon after their arrival they were escorted to where the lone survivor was, much to her dismay. She didn't enjoy the thought of exposing her patient to two Magic Knights who were no doubt here for information. At such a fragile stage, their psyche was fragile and too much pushing could break their minds, sending them into themselves making it all but impossible for dialogue or communication. Kusa took Hanias lead and kept his mouth closed, waiting for any prompt from his temporary partner to join in the fray. But his attitude soon changed when the nurse opened the door, allowing the Bull and Lion to enter the room. What Kusa saw caused his pupils to dilate and his heart skipped a beat. A boy. And one who couldn't be older than a child. Seeing his small body cradled into his knees rocking back and forth had thrown the Elf off guard. When he heard there was a survivor he'd readily assumed a burlier man with a few extra scars to mend. Instead he was given a fragile cub who'd probably seen what no child should ever have to see.
Kusa lowered himself instinctively, kneeling down so he wasn't so imposing. He'd read that lowering ones stature reduced their perception of being a threat. He listened to what Hania had to say first, determining whether or not to assist in any capacity. But the Lion was right, it was a delicate matter and one which required a more delicate touch. Kusa never had any siblings and his only experience with children were the other street orphans which he grew up with. Not exactly a shining resume or reflection on his skills for the task at hand. Instead he opted to keep quiet and let Hania handle the child in terms of keeping calm. Kusa rested his back on the wall, propping his knee into his chest with his forearm resting on his knee. "What state did he arrive in"

[attr="class","haniaimage"]❝I hear a song of woe shadowing our past in sorrow.❞
[attr="class","haniascroll"]"It is tit for tat on that one, unfortunately, people can be vile to one another regardless of station." he said as they had continued to walk. As he spoke to the nurse he did take note of the soft chuckle from the other, he had no idea why he would be doing so, especially at this time. Silently he sighed and shook his head, he wanted to let the other know how that could be viewed by someone in this situation, the issue was he knew if he did it then and there then there would be issues. He was wanting this to go as smoothly as possible, the nurse was already hesitant to allow them to speak to the survivor, he didn't want to give her any reason to believe she had made the wrong decision. He would mention to the other when they got out of the hospital to help him learn.
Inside the room, Hania remained silent watching the young boy for a little while "Do you like birds?" he eventually asked softly in a whisper, the nurse looked at Hania in surprise. She knew that he was likely looking for information but this wasn't quite the information she had expected. The boy looked at him and nodded "I know a bird personally, he's blue and white and has long tail feathers like a peacock." his voice still remaining the same "Would you like to meet him?" he asked watching as the boy bit his lip as if he was thinking about it, he eventually nodded. "Raise your arm like you were going to hold a falcon." he said as he demonstrated. Soon enough the boy held his arm like Hania showed him, on it appeared an ice-blue and white bird that looked like a phoenix.
"His name is Amostia, he's a winter spirit and likes to be stroked on his breast and on his head" he informed the little boy watching as he stroked his head 'Amostia, please coo if we are going to help him we need to be calm and willing to give up information.' he sent to the spirit within their bond who soon started to coo "Seems like he likes you." Hania said warmly, the nurse watched in amazement as the boy had shown more progress in that short time than they had in that same time. It wasn't exactly what they had expected from the high noble, maybe they themselves had misjudged him. It was clear to the woman that the most important thing to the young heir was that the boy was comfortable and calm she appreciated that more than any words could say.
Hania waited for a while longer to allow him to get used to Amostia who had spread his wings a bit for the other to stroke them too. It was when he seen a small smile that he knew that he could start asking questions. "Laric, can I ask a few questions?" he asked the boy nodded, his full attention Amostia which was perfect for them. "You were learning how to do trade?" he asked the boy nodded "Were you with family?" he asked the boy shook his head, Hania at least praised the gods for that one "Were you an apprentice?" he asked watching the boy nod again. He was keeping it simple to things he could nod or shake his head to but soon enough he would need the other to talk "Was it a person that was naughty to you and the others?" he asked the boy shook his head.
"If we got you some paper and coloured pencils could you draw what was naughty for us and what the place looked like they done the naughty thing?" he asked the boy looked down but nodded a little "Amostia will be with you the entire time so if you feel like you need to calm you can stroke him. You are so brave to do this." he said to Laric before looking back to the nurse, "Could you go get some colouring pencils, paper and a stuffed bird plush, if you need to go to the store..." he went into his clothing's sleeve and brought out a piece of parchment that had been folded and sealed with his families seal "Hand them this, you should have no issues getting what is needed. If you want to get yourself something to eat for doing this errand that is fine." the nurse took the letter but looked at him oddly.
"Asking him to speak before he's ready will hinder his progress, drawing will be easier so this letter will tell the person at the store to give you what you need and to send the invoice to my families estate." he said the woman nodded and dashed off to do as was requested. He didn't have to worry about it being abused because the letter would be enchanted to say what exactly was bought and would only be valid for that store since the seal would be broken. It wasn't like someone would be stupid enough to put things on the bill that weren't allowed, after all, his family was powerful and could do a lot of damage without lifting a finger on the other hand they could help something flourish with ease. It was a double-sided sword.

The Noble, quick witted, offered his retort and that was the last line spoken on the topic. It annoyed Kusa, but he couldn't deny that Hania was right. Foul play and generosity weren't exclusive to one side of the fence, and both parties were privy to performing great acts of both sides of the scale. He let the matter settle, opting to concentrate on the matter at hand.
Kusa squat behind the Crimson Lion and watched him unfold the layers of anxiety from the child one layer at a time, each layer delicately peeled back to minimize mental shutdown while slowly making progress on opening the boy up. But the weird thing was that he was genuine in his approach and his method. He didn't lose his temper when the victim didn't respond to prompts or gestures. It was the side of Nobility he personally rarely saw. In all honesty he thought they lacked the capacity, especially towards those 'beneath' them. Kusa stood humbled.
Hania prompted Laric to raise his arm after he agreed to meeting his companion which took the form of a cerulean long tailed bird. The Lion soon confirmed what Kusa suspected. It was a Spirit. They were rare but not unheard of, and as a Kingdom full of capable mages the Clover had numerous contract bearers. This was the first one he'd seen with his own eyes. Colored impressed he continued to observe as Hania began to subtly extract what information he could, always careful about his approach. He'd managed to surmise a basic identity on Laric, an apprentice to trade with no travelling Family. That was enough to send some relief down Kusas stomach. He'd grown up an orphan since he was young and wouldn't impose that kind of fate on anyone. It was a harsh lifestyle, no matter where one lived. Especially if they were homeless.
Instead of pressing forward, Hania had taken a different approach to this unique matter altogether. He suggested the attending Nurse go down to the store and acquire parchment and colored pencils. Apparently he thought it'd be more productive to invest more time in this childs mental wellbeing before continuing his investigation. The Elfs emerald gaze followed the medical assistant as she walked out the door, closing it shut behind her. He wanted to express his need for haste. This wasn't the first incident and its frequency was steadily starting to rise. But Kusa knew that this was the first solid lead they'd had since these reports were first filed. Another opportunity at resolving this problem might not present itself.
"Ya know Laric -" his voice was soft and subtle, picking up in tone gently as to not send the boy further into himself "- I was a laborer and assistant to a travelling band of merchants who sold their wares along the route leading to the Heart Kingdom. I think I was barely older than you when they took me on board. It wasn't an official apprenticeship unlike yours, but they taught me skills that helped me survive and become a member of the Magic Knights." he sighed, reminiscing on those times, where life was much more simpler and he'd felt like he belonged to a Family again. The Elf spent years with this group of traders and merchants before eventually donning the Black Robes. "You must have seen some pretty cool places"

[attr="class","haniascroll"]Hania remained silent watching the young boy dote on his spirit, there was a gentle look on his face. Right now there wasn't exactly much he could do other than wait for the equipment he had requested to be brought to the room. His eyes went back to Kusa as he spoke to the young boy, who looked at him almost in surprise but said nothing. From what he could tell he was likely surprised that someone who was deemed a no one could become a magic knight. "Not all magic knights are of noble birth, a lot of people have to work and train hard to become knights. Those people should be valued the most because they know what it is like to have to fight for everything. They often aren't blessed with strong magics so work twice as hard as a noble does." he explained looking back to the puzzled youth.
"I'll tell you a little secret about myself, promise not to tell?" the boy nodded, it was an open secret but not one normally known outside of the noble circles "I'm not originally from Clover, I come from a land across the sea. When I arrived in Clover I was an orphan and didn't understand what anyone was saying." he said the boy looking shocked at what he was hearing "I was even younger than you are now. I was on my own for a year and something bad almost happened but someone found me, protected and nurtured me just so I could be here to help you. That person who done this I now call sister." he said with a gentle smile though looked back at Kusa "I've never been anywhere near the Heart Kingdom, perhaps sometime in the future we could take a trip together." he suggested.
He turned his eyes back to the young boy who looked at the two knights in front of him in utter bewilderment, it was almost like he couldn't believe that they had such rough starts, and have different paths just because of how the gods decided things should go. "I became the heir of my family, but, I work harder than any of them because I feel the need to prove I belong..." he closed his eyes tightening just slightly "I know Lydia wouldn't do it unless I really, badly messed up but I always fear that I will be abandoned and be alone again." he admitted, this was something he hadn't ever told his sister, one of the fears that would be understandable given the age it happened to him. His eyes opened and looked slightly glassy "But I was saved so I could save others." he said the boy nodded.
"Perhaps, that is why the gods protected you from the bad thing so you could protect others from having to deal with the naughty being." he said softly the boy thinking for a moment and nodding as if Hania had given him a reason for him to be there and not perish with the others. Survivor's guilt was a horrible thing and something no child should ever have to feel, he knew that first hand. Soon enough the nurse came back with a blue bird plush that almost looked like a penguin, several books of parchment and two boxes of coloured pencils. "I got everything asked, thank you for allowing me to get a snack. I got some things from the local bakery so I could share them with the others. It wasn't too expensive." she said moving carefully to Laric to give him the things and a cookie.
"Why don't you draw a picture of your home." he said knowing that he would have to ease into the tougher questions again, but this also served the purpose that his family could be contacted so they wouldn't worry. He nodded and took out pencils to draw, Hania looked to the nurse "You could have bought the entire bakery out of their wares and I wouldn't have minded, doctors and nurses should feel appreciated for the job they do especially with children who have faced trauma. I will send a notice to the bakery to make sure fresh breads and such are sent to you all. The last thing you need to worry about is where your next meal is coming from or that you are going to miss markets." he said the woman looked gobsmacked at his words, he on the other hand, had moved his attention to the boy and his drawing.

Kusa snorted under his breath. At least Hania somewhat understood the struggles he'd had to endure to wear the Black Mantle. But he had no idea. Due to hardship he'd missed the Grimoire ceremony when he turned fifteen and was forced to wait for another year to claim his magic. It was a harsh two years and one of the only things that gave him comfort at night was the potential to be granted a strong Grimoire. He'd hoped the Elven blood he'd inherited would at least amount to something, especially after years of racial discrimination. His attendance to the next years ceremony was met with disappointment. Plant Magic, a common nature used by many within the lower class who usually had jobs of meager pay or position. To add insult to injury he'd also been bestowed the command of a lower tiered book resulting in a weaker variant. Grass Magic.
After the ceremony many who attended ended up participating in the Magic Knight exams. Kusa was not one of them. Not only was his magic lower tiered, he possessed no offensive spells, lowering his chance of coming out the victor. He'd forgo the exams, opting instead to earn a living and training his meager skills. Day after night the Elf trained and was fortunate to find instruction from a group of travelling merchants or more specifically the mercenaries which escorted them. He spent the days working as a laborer, carting their wares across the various towns they'd visit and unload/load the convoy. At nights he trained with the hired guards who'd developed a soft spot. They were kind enough to be the victims of his spells, often allowing the young Kusa to test out the fruits of his hard work.
Years of hard work. But at least he understood.
Kusa remained seated, watching Hania interacting with the Child and the newly arrived nurse with parchment and coloring pencils in hand. He'd come this far under the Crimson Lions guidance and he'd enjoyed the subtle approach. There was care taken in his actions and each move forward was meticulous but gentle, ensuring an equal parts of progression and care. He appreciated the change of pace. The last Knight from the Crimson Lions was brash, strong willed and somewhat difficult to work with. He'd been just as farsighted but his actions led them essentially to fail the request as the culprit was eliminated rather than apprehended. He sighed. The black stars earnt from the mission only solidified the stigma which hung around his Squad but he wasn't met with remand. He truly enjoyed his time amongst the Bulls.
Switching back to the present situation he'd pulled grabbed the attention of the Nurse, keeping his voice down as not to spook the child victim but loud enough so he wasn't whispering "S'cuse me. I've been wondering. If he's supposedly the sole survivor, how'd he get to the hospital? Was he found anywhere? Did someone drop him off? Did he come himself?" these were answers that could potentially assist them in their investigation. At the moment anything was better than nothing, especially considering they had nothing but this boy to go on.

[attr="class","haniascroll"]Hania gaze moved back at the other as he snorted under his breath, certain mannerisms he was keenly aware of given the disdain he had to face growing up and even now as a noble. He wanted to say something but again this was neither the time nor the place for discourse so he held his tongue. If his tone turned cold or something could be seen as bickering the progress that had been made could all go to waste as the child could break down, this, in turn, would make the nurse ask them to leave. He was slowly and very carefully manoeuvring through the traumatic blocks and treacherous uncertain minefields that lay behind each by asking questions that wouldn't force him into painful memories. It was taking longer than he would like but sometimes a light touch was needed over a more demanding and forceful one.
Hania watched what the boy was drawing occasionally stroking Amostia while hugging his own blue penguin and nibbling on the cookie he was given. He listened to the question that was asked from the Black Bull mage, it was a legitimate question. The boy didn't seem physically hurt so he may have walked here but given the mental state he didn't believe that was the case. "He was brought here by some hunters, they said he was sedated by the use of plants because he was screaming and crying about the monster coming back." the nurse said quietly so Laric couldn't hear her words. "Maypop by any chance?" Hania asked the other, the nurse looked surprised and nodded "How did you know?" she asked him "It is a sleeping agent." he said watching as the picture he shown the picture of where he lived "Looks like Hage." Hania noted a few details such as the daemon skull.
"I would contact the Green Mantis as they may know how to contact his parents or may come to escort him home personally." he said before looking at Laric "Now, this one is going to be painful and very hard for you, but, I need you to be the strong young man you've already shown yourself to be okay." he said to the boy who nodded a bit "I need you to draw where the bad thing happened and the naughty person who done it. Do you think you could do that for me?" he asked, the boy shook a little it was clear to Hania he may have asked too much too soon but when Amostia popped himself into Laric's lap and sat down it seemed to quell the fear and he started to draw again. Another crisis averted luckily for now once again all they could do was watch.

"Maypop..." he too was aware of the plant and its properties. He was neither a citizen of the Common or Noble regions, instead residing in the Basin which was located within the Forsaken lands. The Elf was once part of a migratory Hunting tribe which occasionally saw them cross the borders to the Heart Kingdom, following the migratory patterns associated with the herds. He'd learnt a great deal in that time and the knowledge would have served him in the future. It was a heritage based on sustainability and tradition. He enjoyed those moments.
Maypop was one of the plants used to settle distress and relieve pain from suffering relatives. Finally Hania had made progress, getting to a stage where he asked the child to identify the perpetrator leading to the string of missing people, and the cause for the childs misfortune. It was evident he was afraid, and rightfully so. It was a miracle in itself that he'd been the lone survivor but his luck had come at a harsh cost. Despite the fact Hania had been gently peeling back layers of emotional fortitude Laric was still guarded and fragile. And just as it seemed as if he'd retract back into himself the cerulean feathers of Amostia brushed against his face as it gently placed itself in his lap, giving him a much needed boost in confidence. Or rather safety.
Larics hand extended towards the bundle of pencils, his dark eyes scanning the contents for the desired color. He picked up the blackened stick, his grip flimsy as he rolled the circled utensil between his thumb and index finger. He looked at Amatosia once more whether for strength or comfort, before gliding towards the parchment provided by the nurse. Back and forth the pencil went and Larics grip tightened as he attempted to trace the silhouette of his convoys attacker. At first Kusa couldn't see a thing but the look of curiosity emitted on the nurses face was enough to grab his attention, the Elf propping himself back to his feet and slowly pace towards the group. His emerald gaze switched from the Winter spirit to the paper which was now starting to take form, tilting his head with a raised eyebrow. He looked at Hania, then to the medical professional "Wait....did he suffer some sort of additional trauma or -" he looked once again upon the drawing watching it start to take shape, its body that of an enlarged humanoid with a beastly head. Kusa was well aware that magical creatures resided in the Clover Kingdom, but he'd never in all his travels encountered what he was seeing on the paper. In fact, he'd attributed the beast as something told to scare children to bed, or to eat their vegetables "- is that what I think it is?"
