After all it was only natural that some one would covet that which someone else had, Connor’s sharp senses located the word theoretically within an instant.
Envy.
With the greenest of eyes, he could only imagine why it would be unwise to abscond with the relic, before having done do immediately he surveyed his would-be workplace.
The museum curator had been kind of strict about the employment process, the usual interview and a handful of bone jarring questions later, Connor had invented a number of flashy noble reasons to be picked for the security position.
The grits of his teeth were sufficient when he pointed out it was easier to whistle without them.
Offhanded although it were, intimidation didn’t get you very many job offers.
Coercion however, now that was a different story.
Pressing the thumb and the envelope by paying him was a matter of subtlety that Connor simply couldn’t consider doing this job without, he waved his hand and disagreed with the sum of Yul that had been offered for the job.
“Is this an interview or an interrogation?” Said his prospective employer, Connor could only really reply with a sincerely earnest answer.
“I am writing a book, what is it to you?”
Laughing at the insinuation of prosperous relations; the rigamarole or lingo that signified familiarity, was a disturbing success and Connor couldn’t fault the man except for his fallibility.
Half a dozen times Connor had been rebuffed for the work, but with a keen interest and a sharp tooth for the business, it was difficult to keep Connor from getting his way.
The man relented and chimed in at the perfect time, “Didn’t think you were the reading type.”
This softened little about the pretence that Connor would have to portray to be less than your average civilian in the moral virtue department.
He drummed a number of Yul-like coins onto the table, Connor had been flourishing keeping tabs on the other rogues with his loose change.
Some sensory sensitive civilians had noticed the counterfeits and were starting to get suspicious, others wanted a part of the cut.
Connor was happy to unaware of their desires but he had heard, through kiss and tell politics that it was substantially pissing off a good number of people trying to tender it for services rendered.

Investing himself into the business, he took the insult to heart, the number of things that weren’t in this museum was baffling.
Connor’s toilet cupboard had more value in its design then some of the architectural pierces that were someone’s great-grand father’s latrines.
He rolled his eyes almost instinctually after casing the museum, avoiding eye contact with a few of the exhibits.
However life-like they were, their lifeless gaze unnerved and creeped out Connor to a degree of uncertainty that troubled him in his heart of hearts.
Although it was a spacious and brilliantly catalogued selection of artifices, Connor was underwhelmed by the overall content of the rooms he walked through.
A suit of armour roughly his height was shined to such a degree that he could see a warped reflection of his personage staring dully back at him.
Prior the evening he had assessed would be the best night to steal the relic, Connor burnt a few branches and pocketed the charcoal.
For no reason other than dental hygiene and to blacken his teeth, rudimentarily disallowing the luminous light of the moon and starlight to reflect off his otherwise dirty grin.
If he had been toothless, this job would have been easier.
But Connor liked eating a steak of an evening, a good diet consisting of red meat, poultry and fish was important.
While he was able to afford pork, he favoured beef because it wasn’t so fatty.
He was picking his last meal out from between his teeth when a closing door slammed his focus back to attention.
Connor after all, was here; in the museum, stealing what ever from who ever.
The door was the one he left behind him, disassociating wasn’t healthy at the best of times.
But it did tell him that he was alone as no one was rushing to tell him off.
Which was was awesome.

Leafing through a book that had a label saying in bold red lettering, “Do not touch.”
Connor wasn’t actually very much into reading it, he just wanted to get his hands all over it, which he did, liberally.
Before too long he began to wonder what exactly was so special about these stones, his employer made it painstakingly clear he was after stones, not rocks.
After an argument; in which Connor identified that stones were smooth and rocks were jagged or sharp, his employer ran over the details; circumnavigating the points illustrated by Connor’s examples of the difference between an igneous and moronic rock formation.
The relic was however only sedimentary, upon retrospective analysis.
Made up of hundreds of years of mana densely soaking into the earth and building up over time.
It wasn’t a unique relic by any means, more of a rarity that was scarce today.
The multicoloured stones were tons of different minerals that had undergone a natural geographic event that was hard to foretell, pushed together into a brightly hued sphere that was almost too perfect to be natural.
Areas with strong magnetism were prone to dispensing such rare objects and these three had been found in relatively close vicinity of one another.
Or so the museum’s curator had elaborated on a small but informative pamphlet beside the objective.
With owners like this, who could possibly miss the opportunity to steal such a beautiful artefact.
With all these arrows and signs pointing to it, it required little artifice to actually take.
Guile on the other hand was a different matter, he had snuck in under the guise of one of the security guards, and sure once the relic went missing he would have to give up his new job as a guard; but alas the job he was already commissioned for paid better than the hourly rate by over a month’s worth.
Connor cradled the three stones into his rucksack before hightailing it out of the complex mausoleum-like structure and he began walking sanely along the path that would lead him to confronting his employer.
Making up some jazz about the job being more difficult than he had anticipated, his employer was happy to receive the merchandise.
After all that, its particular use was uncertain and his employer was otherwise contractually obliged to actually forfeit the sum of Yul that was agreed upon.
A pretty penny that for all it’s worth, was strictly ornamental.
Connor could scarcely believe this, this cracked pot actually just wanted the relic for an expensive paper weight.
Not that there was a complaint on either end of the arrangement, though Connor had to wonder how exactly this may benefit his employer and put himself at a disadvantage.
“I mean, I could throw them at you.”
Connor laughed at the insinuation, knowing full well that all three of them were weighty enough to do some damage outright themselves.
Brushing off the comment, he was happy to pay Connor for his services rendered, Connor was happy to be paid for putting in the effort and taking the risk.
Not that it was overly difficult, at least for one so used to blending in while no one was there.
