Name: Journeyman Archaeology [JR]
Description: Today are the try-outs for Ilhiana Vones’crew and Magic Knights from all squads are trying out! Go to the recruitment meeting in “Da Inn.” Stand out from the other wizards with your knowledge or your skill as a protector. Impress Vones once and for all!
Minimum Number of Players: 1
Minimum Word Count: 1500 per person
Location: The Royal Capital
NPC Information:
Ilhiana Vones, archeology aficionado, ex-model and previous member of the Coral Peacocks stands tall at 5’6 ft. and adorns a rustic white button up and a pair of leather shorts. She carries with herself a basic short sword and a magical whip that she’s always ready to use when danger comes. The brown-haired woman is currently in her early forties but looks about 30, perhaps because she’s a skilled illusionist and user of Solar Magic, or perhaps because she loves to exercise in her free time.
Vones has long brown hair and amber eyes. She enjoys educated conversation and strongly dislikes people who fake their interest in archeology. The Magic Knights will see her tossing “fakers” outside of “Da Inn”.
Enemies: N/A
Special Conditions: Converse with Vones and impress her.
Amaya went about her normal morning routine of getting out of bed, getting up and about before tending to her Mana beast and his morning Grooming. Once she was sure he was happy and content she headed out of the mansion on a broom towards her destination. Today was the day to meeting the famous Ilhiana Vones. She had made sure to go over the various notes she had written from the library along with anything else she thought would be of help. She had only hoped she would be good enough to pass this interview and continue on this journey of exploration. She looked in her bag while descending to the little inn within the capital called " Da Inn". This wasn't her first time having to go into a inn that wasn't the most expensive but she knew this was where She was to meet Joseph and the archeologist. She just hoped she can keep her confidence in her research. [break][break] She landed gently next to the entrance before putting up her broom. She stood outside it, checking her mantle and outfit to ensure it was alright. "Alright, You got this Amaya.. Just go in with your confidence and smile." She spoke to herself in encouragement taking a deep breath to calming herself and her racing thoughts. She then looked around in thought. She needed to wait for joseph, her cousin. He knew of the woman so it was best to wait for him so he could lead the way. Part of her was excited for this but the other part was excited to getting to know more of her cousin Joseph and his time before finding them as his family.

“There is always danger that comes with beauty.”
The nobles residing within a young king’s court didn’t know the danger of those words until one Lady Cherry walked into their faraway royal palace and bowed before their king. Her locks were like liquid gold, her skin perfect like the most beautiful white marble, and her lips were as red as the magical roses that only bloomed once a year, at midnight. Her mannerisms were pristine, and her beauty found her a place within the hearts of all men, even the king. He became cold, cruel, only cared for Lady Cherry and gave her everything she wanted…He even went to war for her because she wanted Tchazzar’s riches…
It was brutal, a trench war in its worst sense. No side was winning, and despite the fact that the king’s armies were tired and lacking in resources, he pushed them to continue. To continue until they saw him as a mad king…A conspiracy took place, where the sister of the King came to Tchazzar, begging him to end the war. And he did, in a day the Jaws of Fire and his council swept through the kingdom, letting the unhappy peasants deal with the king as they wished…yet Lady Cherry appeared before the Dragon Emperor the very next day, with that same bow, those same golden locks, those same luscious lips…A seduction that should’ve worked but didn’t. The sister of the late king had warned Tchazzar of the woman who turned her once great and beloved brother into a mad tyrant. He let the woman remain in his grand temple, but showed no interest in her. Not until she started attempting to tempt the members of his council to betray him. The Jaws of Fire’s punishment was swift and harsh. He turned to the strongest magician he had in his court, and asked them to curse Lady Cherry to suffer forever in her pining of all the world’s power and riches. Her form, he found next morning in the council room.
A long, thin and light rapier that always appeared to be covered in blood upon first glance… only those that bother to touch it find that the blood, while still bright red and fresh-looking, is completely dried down (and also impossible to remove.) A single beautiful rose sprouts from where the hilt meets the blade, one that only fully opens its petals once the blade tastes blood. The blade only welcomes a woman as its master, as all men that have ever touched it have received large cuts from both the hilt and the blade.
The accepted owner of the Lady of Madness naturally attains the Sinister Magic Perk while wielding them.

One could make a hair color related joke, but was normal for Joseph to wake up early in the morning. Then again at this point, hair like the sunrise, being part of the Golden Dawn, and waking up before the sun arose almost felt like a running joke at this point. Then again, his secondary spirit partner was deer shaped and he used to be part of the azure deer. A shower was taken, brushing his hair, braiding it, then dressing. Reading a bit and taking notes before making and eating breakfast than heading back out for the capital. Traveling was fast and easy for him, considering the amount of transportation spells he had on him. Besides that, the young man had always tried his best to know his way around the kingdom fairly well. Maybe this was because his original plan had been to become a member of the azure deer and remain one. It was honestly just he was the sort that wanted to know as much as possible. Things were also easier to forage in the wild if you know where everything is and how to make your way back to civilization, as well as in what direction it was in. The young man was the sort that would try his best to be on an all plant diet while out camping in the wild, but also had nothing against hunting nor eating meat. He just didn't like killing, but also accepted death as a natural part of life.
The deathly pale eyed person didn't have a broom, so didn't bring one. There was nothing to park on arrival. The young adult was dressed as plainly as someone could while wearing a golden dawn mantel. Despite being a royal, he really just looked like a commoner that somehow got into the golden dawn. It was unlikely that it would look any more suiting on him anytime soon, despite how his hair matched the color of the morning dawn. He got there soon enough after Amaya to hear their cousin talking to herself. “As long as you're honest everything will be fine. There's no need to talk yourself up.” It would be nice to get to know his cousin a bit more. A lot had happened, but having work and a cousin to get to know where both wonderful ways to center himself and feel better. It might be bad, but he was very confident in himself typically. There were ways he tried to not be too confident, or to raise that confidence up when it was low, but this was different. With their mothers old illusion off him, the hair dyed from it but his real eye color out in the open? There was a difference between pale and unhealthy. There was no warm orange hue anywhere anymore and the color was paler. His already light pupils now looked like they barely even existed.
Even if his fathers blood likely would have prevented him from ever getting deep blood red eyes like his mother, he should still have more pronounced pupils. The elvish features were honestly not that much of a surprise, or rather he had shown signs of having elf blood in him somewhere far before any physical signs existed. That wasn't anything bothersome, it was just the eyes. How would he make this not stand out? But going in the building more proved that perhaps he was over thinking. Joseph was the only one who noticed his own eyes, for now at least. ~I hope Vones doesn't remember my little trouble maker self of the past, or ask about my eyes.~
Amaya nearly jumped out of her skin hearing him seem to come out of nowhere. "I know I know, I shouldn't be worrying but It helps me" she said taking a deep breath. "I fake my confidence cause I personally get into my own head and worry of what others say. Which i know I shouldn't but I can never seem to not keep out" She said with a smile as she turned towards him. She wasn't confident like him or most others and often she was worried too much over little things she didn't have the power to do.
[break][break] "I hope this goes well. I want to go and make a good impression but i worry." She said with a smile following after him before opening the door to Da In, moving inside before moving to the side. She didn't know who to really look forwards to. She didn't mind the taverns nor did she mind meeting another coral peacock, even a former one that has gained so much recognition

Getting into your own head? They paused in walking, corpse pale pink eyes looking towards their blue eyed cousin. Their entire body froze as the adult man tried to think of what to say. This was an issue he shared after all. It was hard to not feel isolated to some extent, even if he could hear and verbalize himself fine. There was nothing physically wrong with him, but he had spent so much time speaking in sign language. It almost felt like he was mentally wired wrong even after taking so long to learn to verbally speak. As someone who studied psychology he did know the technical reason behind this, even if the red head refused to accept the reason. There were certain years in your youth to learn other languages before the mind sets on one being your first language. His first language was sign language. The verbal common language of the clover kingdom was a second language to him, no matter how isolating it could feel. “I probably understand that feeling more than anyone else you'll ever meet. It's a sign of either anxiety or isolation and is why I speak to myself so much in sign language. The only cure is to run in and do your best, no matter how scared you are. Things will typically get less nerve wracking from there.” The older Ravencrest had likely taken a bit long to speak those words, but he hadn't even been sure sound would come out.
Things don't always work out, but being scared or caught up in yourself doesn't solve anything. Blindly running in wouldn't be good if this was a fight, but it was a low steaks social interaction. His body started to intense a bit as his senses let back in the sounds of the inn. Everything was happening in the tavern area of the inn, an area that the best inns tended to have. Taverns sold food, drinks, and worked as a general socializing area to play board games, read, or play darts. In today's case it was to try to become accepted onto an expedition. A slight smile found its way onto their face as their large deathly pale colored eyes softened in expression. “If you don't know how to start the conversation, than simply introduce yourself, say why you are there, bring up what got you interested in archaeology, and some of your favorite things discovered by archaeologists. You'll do good.” Joseph finally turned away from facing her, moving from the front of her path by starting to walk again. Somehow talking like that helped soothe his nerves. He was just in time to see Vones react someone from joining. If there was any hopes she didn't remember him, it was shattered as soon as he heard, “Still good at finding trouble little dawn deer?” Is mothers stage name had been burning crimson, often described as appearing much like a beautiful dusk burning out into the night. “Isn't it good for a member of the Golden Dawn to be good at finding things?” Nerves were hitching for his throat. “I thought you'd be an azure deer with how obsessed you were as a kid with tracking and trying to survive in the woods.” Joseph looked away a brief bit. She wasn't wrong, though he really didn't like getting pegged. ~I was at first, but things happened. My name is Joseph Ravencrest now. My blood father was Fintan Ravencrest.~ The jovial look the adventurer had seemed to slip away a bit. She looked as if a mystery had been solved without her while he had been out doing her own thing. “Ravencrest, that explains a lot of things. Well, I already know you have the interest, but do you have the focus to join on the expedition? Will you wonder off at the first sign of what might be something new?” Those words stung, but it was fair. His focus track record was pretty weak in the past. “I learned focus very fast during my first mission as an azure deer. I was one of the magic knights sent to Raque when a deamon flooded the city with water.” That wasn't the best way to grow out of loosing focus, but damn was it far too effective. Vones laughed a bit, “That would straighten up most people. Alright, you can come.” Nothing went nearly as bad as Joseph had imagined in their head. As per usual, it seemed their head had been making everything out to be more terrifying than reality. The tension that had built up in their body during the conversation rolled out of their body, their muscles loosening. “A cousin of mine was actually also interested in joining, shes a big fan of yours.” “I don't know her, so I'm going to need to test her interest in archaeology. There's no need for fakers trying to get on the trip for other reasons.” ...Was his early life a big test to her then? Probably not, but he couldn't help but to make a face at her.
Words: 851 Total: 1,457 The symbol ~ will be used in the post to reference when sign language is being used.
Amaya listened to her cousin as she nodded. She just had to pull a Taiyo then. Put on a brave smile and run in. It cant be that hard right. She thought about it, diving deeper into the process needed. Maybe she was over thinking what others think of her and why should she? at the end of the day, she is the only thing that matters in her mind right? She nodded in agreement knowing it was one thing she needed to tend to, getting out her own head. She was a magic knight. She had a goal of catching up to Both Hania and Taiyo to be able to handle and support both of them, how ever they need. She couldn't remain in her head. She needed to stop worrying of how she was perceived by others. She was going to allow her actions to speak in place of her words. [break][break] She snapped her train of thought back to reality as she listened to Joseph's instructions. Just introduce herself and state her intent? that was easier said then done. She can play whatever part was required of her when told. However being anything other then what she was to be known as was something she only did around Taiyo as he earned the right to see the real her. She took a deep breath, following after Joseph looking around the tavern, enjoying the sights and sounds along with a few of the smells, which was mostly the food. Sure it was musky and maybe it wasn't a place she would ever be caught dead normally. However, this wasn't a normal situation. This was something more. She kept close, moving out of the way of others, She didn't care for having the right away as this was a environment she wasn't sure how to navigate. [break][break] Making it to a small group she looked forwards, watching the conversation between her older cousin and the famous Ilhiana Vones herself. She was a bit suprise to see how well Ms. Vones and Joseph knew of eachother. She cleared her throat when Joseph brought her up in wishing the join. she could tell from the woman's statement that she wasn't impressed by any moment of faking. "Uh Yes. I am Amaya Ravencrest, Joseph's younger cousin. I have always had the love for finding out new things and seeing new places whenever I can. I have heard great things about you and your travels. While I am not an expert in the subject. I grew up learning all sorts of things from my Father and his travels." She spoke keeping calm and letting her knowledge of Ms. Vones to be known [break][break] "Well, while growing up and hearing stories and reading books of studies can be good, it is nothing compared to being out in the field. Joining my expedition is going to be dirty and messy, nothing a pampered princess would wish to join. We might even find troubles along the way, either in the various ruins, but also just on the journey to our destination." Spoke the woman looking her up and down. [break][break] "Well I seem pampered and the type to not want to get dirty, I have choosen to go against my normal and make my life fully my own and my first steps is to standing on my own achievements and making my own mark on this world. I am a quick learner and I will never run from danger or the unknown. I have always felt a want or yearn to explore and find out what this world has to offer and the secrets it holds." She added keeping herself calm cool and collected even if her nerves were wanting to make her turn tail and run. She had to keep out of her head. She was going to be fine. She was determined to be fine and stand her ground. She was going to earn the right to join her cousin and Ms. Vones on this mission. [break][break] She watched the woman's silent gaze upon her in unknown thought. Was she going to win this woman over? Was her unexperienced going to be the reason she wasn't going to make the cut? Was she a bit too pushy? Maybe she didn't push enough? There were so many thoughts that raised through the young peacock's head as she watched thewoman quietly. She couldn't read the woman or tell even where her inner thoughts were going. She hated not having Hania's knack for reading people and their body language. Sometimes she had wished to have even a minor ability to read people, maybe that would help her even better. [break][break] "Well I am not one to allow the pampered to join the expedition. I see a bit of myself when i first started my journey, first with books and stories to join the magic knights and exploring the various dungeons to where I find myself know. You have won me over Little peacock. Lets see if those feathers are for more then just show. Though I will make this clear, At any point I feel you don't have what it takes or hold this expedition back, I will send you back home regardless of your ranking in the magic knights or social standing. While you might be a lesser royal of a very respected and equally secretive family. On the expedition, we are all equals and as such, you will carry the equal weight and responsibility." Stated the woman ensuring her was clear with a respectable smirk on her face. [break][break] "Yes Ma'am. I will not let you down." Spoke Amaya in shock and excitement. She had gotten in. sure a little bit harsher critique then she had wished but the simple fact she made the cut on so little was enough to send her overboard. She needed to show that Ilhiana's assumption of her pamperness wasn't going to be an issue. She was going to be more then just a pretty face, in a pretty mantle from a well respected family. [break][break] "Good now that the formalities are done, I will send you both a letter when we are to leave on the expedition." She said "Now come, lets celebrate your welcoming on to the expedition" She said in a celebratory manner. [break][break] Amaya sighed very relieved to have finally gotten over the hump of her nerves and the unknown of whether she was going to be accepted or not. She wasn't use to having to get accepted in anything. Most accepted her because of influence and social standing, others for the assistance her family could possibly give them. Amaya never needed to try being prepared actually trying at getting accepted, so this was a first she was not to fond of while at the same time enjoying the feeling of accomplishing something without anyone else's influence. Well maybe being Joseph's cousin might have had a small hand to play in the acceptance but she was going to still enjoy the accomplishment.

Joseph hadn't been sure what to expect when watching the interaction between Ilhiana Vones and his cousin Amaya, but he did strongly believe they would pass the inspection. She didn't fake her interest, even if they probably definitely needed more experience. It seemed he was the only one confident in her passing however, with how weight seemed to melt from her after all was said and done. It was a reminder that he knew nothing about how Vones grew up and was unlikely to ever find out. Even the hint from the conversation could mean protected nobility or a child of protective parents that were commoners. There was no real point in speculating, as there was no real way she was going to give away even a hint of that information. He wasn't someone that could even be remotely considered a friend, nor anyone close. That didn't change that his cousin was now approved. There was a mention of a celebration, but the man had no interest. Parties, get together things, it wasn't the golden dawn members thing really. When it was attempted, it while he wasn't in work mode. It was while he was trying to learn how to be normal, to relax and have fun around other people like a normal person. Their calmest memories didn't involve being around people, but his fathers music or being surrounded by books, or nature.
These were all things that made them feel disconnected from other people, not closer. It was a sensation of getting lost in a world of data and information in some way or another. The red head wasn't purposely seeking out ways to enjoy himself and avoid people, but for some reason those two things went together way better than joy and socializing did. What made matters worse was how his emotions effected how he could interact with other people. The more high his emotions were, the more awkward he spoke and the harder it became to speak verbally. Joseph knew this was all likely relaxed to traumas as well as ways around it. It wasn't like he couldn't force himself to verbalize, though that used to be the case. He was better at talking than ever, but that didn't magically make him better with people, nor more eager to jump into parties and celebrations. Amaya likely say this as a chance to converse with an idol even further, but the young man saw the person as a reminder of memories he didn't want to think about nor look at. Vones being an amazing and famous person didn't change that, nor did neither of them being close. Maybe it would actually be easier to hang around if he had been close to the explorer in some way, but reality wasn't that convenient. The two might as well be strangers, only she was one that knew parts of his past he didn't like sharing.
This wasn't information that was especially hard to find or learn, but it didn't make it easier. How many times had be been found alone in the wild at an inappropriate age by a coral peacock while growing up? It was a detail he couldn't remember, but there was a lot not quite in their mind. It was nicer to not remember being taken from the wild, or about being treated badly by other kids for not talking verbally, or other things blocked out of sight and mind. His home town was a place he loved and hated, with good and bad memories, as well as a fear of being treated like he was broken in some way. The adoptive family members that had caused that fear were arrested a long while back, but that didn't make those feelings go away. But this was unrelated to Hapshass, only to the mission. He walked near Amaya, though did not reach out physically in any way. Their muscles weren't that relaxed, but he was smiling. “You did good. It seems like you'll have fun here, so I'll see you another time. Maybe when gathering for the travel, maybe before. I'll try to keep in touch, have fun.” Joseph did recognize that his cousin likely wanted to spend time there. This was a good chance for her to converse more with her idol and get to know her better, right? So he gave a bit of a wave before starting to walk out, leaving the tavern. (exit thread)

Amaya recollected herself while turning to joseph. She nodded to his inquiry "Alright if that is what you want. I will see you at the start of this Expedition, or indeed sooner for supply shopping as I have no idea what we will need or bring with us." She said with a smile. She was never one for celebrating with strangers as most celebrations she has been in were more of the more noble and elegant ones with fancy lighting, big ballroom dresses, fine dinning and the gossip of who was better then the other in all sense of the word. [break][break] She was a socialite, She wasn't one to acknowledge the celebration in the tavern but she felt humbled to say the least. She smiled at the festivities happening around her but after a few seconds of thought, she had decided to decline the invitation. (Thread exit/ thread end)
