Oscar, a diamond in the rough. His skin as an elf is not quite as pristine as one may presume as it often lacks the polish it needs. Sharp ears, neatly-etched jaw, and illuminating markings to make him shine within a crowd -- for better or for worse. As an extension of his magical knack placed upon him early on, the fine artistry illustrated thrums with his potential. Other defining features include his arrow-like nose and sharp, pointed teeth. His skin is soft and pale, darkened only by the dirt it accrues. The silver-haired knight-prospect tends to keep his hair groomed at the very least, washed and devoid of dirt. It seems to remain as a balanced chaos as there's no product applied but it has a natural beauty and silkiness to it, though shaped in response to the presence of natural oils. Certainly, Oscar goes no-poo when it comes to his hair routine. Often it's long enough to nearly if not entirely cover one of his golden eyes, depending on when his last haircut was. A result of him budgeting out his grooming is the presence of split-ends, even his majestic hair can't escape those. More subtly present are the scars often overlooked in contrast to magic-resonating pattern drawn onto his skin. They are scars of both the working class and the cut-throat nature of the destitute and impoverished. Typically, Oscar dresses as neatly as he can within his means as well as with neutral colors . As he tries not to appear with too much flair, he attempts to cover up his skin when possible (aside his face) with darker tones. This can consist of different colors, just dulled and unobtrusive to the eye such as soft blues and reds. [attr="class","header"]Personality Oscar's personality is one that doesn't necessarily fit the outer perception of him. He certainly does not flaunt, but those that look at him see only tired, resting-bitch-face natural frowning. It's just his resting expression, which has gotten him into more trouble than he would like. Tonally, he speaks very monotone and seemingly serious which ALSO has brought more trouble than he'd like. Not a loud person, Oscar is working on his ability to express himself since becoming a magical knight. Through the thick of his negative charisma, there is a kind person who only wants the best for everyone and not the slew of misunderstandings that has made holding a job down difficult. He wants his people to feel safe and happy, his friends feel cared for and will often silently push himself through complete mental exhaustion when it comes to being considerate and attentive to others. While he wouldn't admit it, Oscar is guilty of being envious of others. He isn't a very prideful person, but he certainly wishes for more. This sin can poison many in different ways, giving Oscar a warped sense of duty where he simply wishes for a leader to follow to enable chivalry and obtain purpose. Through this purpose, he will use his irrational sense of duty and loyalty to keep himself motivated. Oscar believes in tempered mannerisms, being more well-mannered than most of his societal standing. While he is an idealistic person who suffers the same humanoid flaws as his fellow citizens, he tries to keep it contained and controlled and puts on a good front. For those he softens up around, he is more likely to walk with a smile and speak of hopes and aspirations. For the rest, he frowns and remains matter-of-fact and keeps his cards close. The main thing Oscar abhors is needless violence and bloodshed. The greater the power, the greater the discipline necessary in his eyes. While there is a love to be found in the sport of battle, there is no love for a one-sided conflict or the actual blood harvested in such actions. The thrill of the fight is real, but Oscar has his limits. Despite this, his actions and reactions fall in line for the chain of command he follows first and foremost, then his moral code. Oscar's really soft on the inside, he isn't mean, that's just his face! [attr="class","header"]History Oscar Elfenhudd has had an unfortunate life. As a commoner, his family had actually began establishing themselves as well-respected jewelers and tailors (the expertise of his father and mother respectively). They specialized in jeweled inlays for the different clothing that they crafted, combining their bloodlines and making a rather successful business out of it. Their success was before Oscar's birth, but it made the couple hopeful for growing their tree without economic issue. His mother often took commissions from magic knights to help add flair to their presentability. His father took private jewelry commissions that were kept hidden, lost upon their eventual passing. As Oscar was born to the family of Elfenhudd, there was shock on the father's face as the kid was born with elven features. Neither knew of their bloodline carrying such characteristics, which were really dormant like a recessive gene but present in both. A bloodline that thinned out their elven genes early, the family never knew significance and so, never recorded their history. At the peak of their growing status within the Common Region, divorce created a schism in the marriage of the two artisans. Oscar was left with his mother to descend as her tailored goods lost their luster through a broken heart and lack of special inlay. Unaware of where his father had gone, they clawed for whatever they could as the boy was forced into labor earlier than one would expect to make ends meet. The boy didn't begin his problems with people so early on, as he took every short-lasting job with pride and engaged with joy. It wasn't until his father returned and performed an awful experiment on him with new inlay techniques, an expression of magic that his mother was not aware of, and making Oscar bear the mark of rejection from his absent father. The experiment was coupled with sickness and demise, making Oscar claw for survival on his own. The hope he had never died, but the ability to hide how he felt about his current circumstances did. Happiness couldn't exist even if there was aspiration. Acceptance couldn't exist when he knew there could be so much more. The inlay on his body disturbed many as his natural flow of mana pulsated throughout. Without knowing someone, many treated him with the idea that he was only ever going to bring them trouble. So, all Oscar could do was obtain his grimoire. Become a magical knight. He couldn't stand being misunderstood and a drunkard once half-jokingly told him he was brimming with magic and he should try. Of course, it was mostly confusion on the drunkard's end and Oscar was socially inept, making him take it completely seriously. Oscar didn't care about where he would reach, just that he had a place to belong and could eat a good meal. Due to the common disposition people had, he was often treated LIKE a criminal but always earned every scrap of clothing and food he had. If someone treated him poorly and made a mess, he quietly cleaned the mess. Due to his poor conditions, his attempt to become a magic knight didn't begin until he was 18. Upon attending the ceremony, with the last reserves of hope to feed the monster of want, golden grace filled his eyes. Oscar Elfenhudd, last of his name, held a golden grimoire like it was the cure to famine and fear. He didn't know what he could do, as he had lived a life that hadn't been able to focus on magic. While he had his grimoire, it was only then that he discovered that his body thrummed with the energy of Pure Aura and that the inlay on his body was a twisted gift to help focus it. To avoid the chaos of a lack of shape and definition given to his affinity, Oscar was given an artistic focus to create balance. Taking time to understand himself, he suffered another year before actually attempting to become a magic knight. There wasn't many that looked fondly upon him, so his only prospects ended up being between the Black Bulls and the Green Mantis squads. Disappointed as his head rose into the clouds more than ever through his year of self-discovery, he sought where he felt he would fit best: the Green Mantis. A place deemed only a home to vagrants and other icks, it was only fair that Oscar gave them the chance that he would hopefully be given as a fellow misunderstood supposed miscreant. Joining them, Oscar was found to be a quiet and reserved individual. It was by this point that he knew he couldn't bleed openly with hope and inspiration, he needed to prove himself and so did his allies. In time, he hoped he wouldn't take much...but the diamond in the rough always shines best when it's given the proper environment and care. [attr="class","header"]Magic
MAGIC DESCRIPTION: As Oscar's body is an expression of his Pure Aura, so is his application of magic. With each move in combat, he prefers to materialize his magic and use it in a state of never-ending flow. Somethings require big wind-ups, somethings must be precisely aimed; this means that he leans towards things that can move along with him instead of spells that are more traditionally used like big fireballs or skillfully fired projectiles. To make himself the weapon is key to his desired spells. Only as a grand finale does he desire to use bigger, more destructive magic. There is a conflict of tenacious release and timid control that makes him afraid of letting loose in a destructive, ugly way. Oscar prefers to be artful, meaningful in the way he applies magic to the fight. As he casts, his skin inlay glows brilliantly in reaction to the expression of mana. The stronger the spell, the stronger it glows. To summarize, he goes for efficiency and subtly versus powerful and cumbersome magical expression. The appearance of how Oscar fights with his magic resembles a mind of tactics and grace. Not a beautiful knight, but still possessing an oath to perform with honor and competence.
