Though he by no means had a reputation in the town of Kikka, Kingsley still felt a sort of kinship with the townsfolk since his first mission. From the baker whose grimoire he rescued to the glassworker who helped him pass the time, he had begun to put faces to names and in turn become more than just a faceless Knight who passed by from time to time. It was for this reason that he had accepted the mission to protect one of the merchant's wares from rabid beasts lurking around town.

From the baker's shop he was able to keep a close eye on the nut monger's stand, sitting at the lone table outside. Though the passing shoppers and merchants occasionally impeded his vision, Kingsley refused to find another stake out location, preferring to stay near the sweet scent of pastries and dough that emanated from the bakery. Since the other Junior Knights were all out doing other Missions, leadership had assigned a fellow Junior Knight from another squad to assist in this matter. As defenders of the Kingdom, the Purple Orcas had a lot of fingers in many pies around the nation, so it was only natural that they called on other squads for help from time to time. At least, that was how Kingsley saw it, though the pie analogy was no doubt a product of his current environment.

Kingsley continued to wait for his fellow Knight, hoping it would not be much longer before they made an appearance. According to their intel, the bandit beasts appeared around midday, and the sun would soon reach its apex in the sky. To kill the time, he had purchased a small pastry, ripping apart the doughy exterior and placing the small shredded pieces into his mouth. The pastry had a peculiar scent, no doubt a product of the pink gooey filling the baker had injected into it. Kingsley brought the now perforated snack to his mouth, draining the berry jelly like a vampire might blood.

The day seemed as peaceful as any other, but Kingsley knew it would not last long. Children played around the nearby trees, which held neither birds nor squirrels. The young knight soon finished the baked good, cheeks puffed out like the squirrels he hoped to capture today. If his partner did not arrive soon, he may have to do battle by himself in the streets. After his last excursion to Kikka's markets, Kingsley was glad to have immediate backup. It was easy for a Junior Knight to be outnumbered, especially one without golem creation magic.

Kea didn't know every person in every town. Even in Hage where the green mantis base was located, the youth wouldn't consider himself well acquainted with anyone. It was fun to talk, hug, learn, and listen, but he never assumed any of them would remember his name. This wasn't even his first mission in Kikka, but the criminals had come in so fast during that time! There hadn't even been time to talk to anyone that time! Well, besides the bandits, but that didn't involve making any friends. This city was a good distance from the green mantis base, but that wasn't an issue. The red head had a broom and wasn't afraid of using it to get anywhere he needed to go... Because if he didn't, that would involve a lot of time wasted running everywhere. He wanted to spend all of his time getting stronger, doing missions, or getting to know other people. Maybe this was one of the reasons why Keas sensory was at zero. They were a very straight forward and passionate person, which were very common traits for those in the Vermillion family.

The mission had been told to him on short notice, but there wasn't a good way to give it when the attacks were so frequent anyway. Their broom stopped its flight near one of the streets. The blue violet eyed individual smiled wide and warm, getting off the item of transportation before grabbing it up. It was stuffed away on his back because there wasn't a better place to put it. It was the Orca Magic Knight squad mantel that helped the red head figure out the person he was supposed to be working with. To the redhead? Everything looked calm, accept the animals. There wasn't any small animals visible nearby, suggesting either bad weather incoming, or an animal attack was going to happen. This didn't stop him from from cheerfully heading towards the fellow magic knight, energetically waving one of their hands at the other. “Hey there! Are you Kingsley? I'm Kea!” They cheerful man hugged the other as soon as he was close enough. It was best to get down to business, so thats what he started doing.

“Squirrels attacking sounds weird, but I guess it will happen soon? Do you know if anyone knows why they are doing it? They eat just about anything, so squaring in on someones food cart is sort of strange?” Honestly, Kea would accept that the nut vendor was just really good at roasting and salting or seasoning nuts. Everything else sounded a bit out there, so why not? But that was around the time that squirrels started running from different directions towards a single location. 'Squirrels aren't supposed to be this organized?' was what Kea was thinking, but that didn't stop him from running on over. A lot of his spells were either too intense to use on a squirrel, or too big to use in a town area. As such, Kea was stuck grabbing up two squirrels with his two hands. The man had the speed, but not enough hands to grab every squirrel. “I suddenly regret not bringing a bag or something.”

Just as he was growing restless, Kingsley's eyes caught a glimpse at another Magic Knight, scuffing their flying broomstick into their backpack further down the street. Had he been so engrossed in the nut vendor he didn't notice them fly overhead? The stranger scurried to the bakery table, their violet eyes taking in every sight like a hungry horse at a pond. When those eyes met Kingsley's own, a wave of recognition passed over the red headed mage, and they stretched their arms out, leaning in for a hug.

The Purple Orca was not quite comfortable with it but decided to humor the other knight, reciprocating the hug. An incredulous face washed over Kingsley's, and he bit his own tongue. Is this guy for real? We just met... Regaining his personal space, Kingsley stood up from his spot at the table, brushing off a small layer of crumbs from the baked good he had been eating. "So nice to meet you, Mr. Vermillion. Yes, the squirrels are interested in that man just across the way. He carries a rare type of nut only available through trade with one of our neighbors, the Heart Kingdom. The fact that they get to devour the rest of his stock while looking for it is just a bonus." The young man's eyes closed as he spoke, visualizing the impending attack from the rodents. Click-click-squeeeak-click-squeak-squeak Kingsley's eyes sprang open and he saw Kea was already ahead of him, gripping the tails of a squirrel in each hand.

The battle was not as Kingsley had imagined it - perhaps the reports exaggerated the squirrels' abilities? Only four admittedly overgrown squirrels were surrounding the nut vender's stand, and two had already been captured by the Green Mantis Knight, Kea Vermillion. The two in Kea's hands wriggled with all their might, babbling incessantly in the chirp and squeak fueled language of squirrels. Unable to bring their little arms up to Kea's hand due to their own weight, they simply writhed in the air, an angry baby swaddled by gravity. Kingsley took advantage of his friend's quick fingers, pointing an open palm towards the remaining creatures. "Spider's Silken Snare!" The coral grimoire rose in response, generating the spell circle associated with his restraining magic. Twin ribbons of sharp rosy colored silk slithered out, easily binding up the two free roaming squirrels. The razor interior lining of the restraint began to cut into them ever so slightly, exhausting the rabid rodents.
