[PTab=GENERAL INFO]
| [attr="class","gentextred"] [attr="class","characterappheader"]Appearance [break]
Solei's darker skin tone stands out amongst the relatively fair skinned citizens of Clover, perhaps a recessive trait brought forward by the Lavant family's latent dwarf genetics. As a woman of the cloth, she renounced the fanciful clothes of the nobility, and the decadent cosmetics they paint themselves in, preferring the natural smoothness of her face and the simple black nun's garb. The one piece of jewelry she allows herself is the gold beaded necklace adorned with the symbol of the Church of Clover's Winter Sect. Her curly brown hair spills out from the white coif atop her head, framing the soft emerald eyes in the center of her face. Despite her short height, she speaks with a soft but firm tone, rarely raising the volume of her voice. [attr="class","characterappheader"]Personality Solei is a soft-spoken, polite, and caring woman who uses honorifics when addressing everyone, including her subordinates and the enemy. She rarely shows any signs of panic or distress, and has a great sense of duty. This is especially shown when she is called to service within the Garden of Undine, as Solei takes her job extremely seriously, to the point of threatening those Magic Knights who refuse to lie down and allow their wounds to heal while staying within the Garden. She appreciates the extracurricular duties of the Winter Sect as well, taking great care when working with the plants contained within. Some would even say she is more attentive to the plants than the people, although such a remark would probably earn the commenter a wicked glare and scathing question. Indeed, to those that come to know Solei well understand that she has two sides - the kind gardener, and the cruel nursemaid. [attr="class","characterappheader"]History Born to the eastern bloodline of House Lavant, Solei grew up in a gilded cage. While not as powerful as the western house, they still commanded a non negligible amount of influence in the capital of Clover. Their men were expected to play politics or join the Magic Knights, while the women were relegated to a more... 'traditional' role. From a young age, Solei's attitude and behavior was always under a microscope, preparing her to be a negotiation tool for the family to clutch and claw their way back to relevancy within the gentry. She was assigned a strict teacher, a retired Magic Knight who owed a Lavant ancestor a life debt. Solei's teacher expected perfection, and continuously applied pressure to try and turn this lump of coal into a diamond worthy of high society. The young Solei found release by sneaking out whenever she could, escaping to the capital's parks and gardens to enjoy the scant traces of nature the nobles allowed within the walls. Eventually, her late night adventures came to a close, as her teacher quickly noticed the girl growing tired in the middle of the day and drew the correct conclusions. Seeing an opportunity, she took the girl to the Lavant greenhouses, hoping to channel her rebellious energies into a more ladylike pursuit - that of gardening and flower arrangement. The young noble loved the smell of freshly turned soil, and the feeling of foliage against her skin, and this would be her talent to attract a suitor, alongside her lofty name and beautiful appearance. Soon, the day came to receive her grimoire, and Solei finally noticed what life outside the Capital was like. She wasn't the only person at the Grimoire Tower that day, and the mages around her seemed desperate and hungry. Some were relieved to get their grimoires, finally able to contribute to their households using magic. To others, it was a day of disappointment, as their lack of power marked them as unable to step outside the predetermined roles society had set for them. Solei realized that her own troubles, of wanting to run away from home and only wed for love, were nothing in comparison to the woe that the commoners of Clover faced everyday. The thoughts continued to weigh on her, making her distant to her family to the point of not even realizing what her grimoire day really meant - it was time for her arranged marriage to be finalized. A dreadful, cocky nobleman's son would be her partner for the rest of her life, all for the sake of the Lavant family's holdings and ability to manipulate the parliament of Clover. On the night of the wedding rehearsal, she broke down into tears, running up the stairs of the chapel and locking herself in the priestess' quarters. She was so distraught she didn't even notice where she had gone, just anywhere but down there with that man she did not love. The Priestess ascended into the room through the window, consoling the upset girl. When it became clear that she would not budge from the spot, the Priestess offered an alternative. By joining the Church of Clover, she wouldn't have to marry anyone - indeed many of their ranks took vows of celibacy to honor the Great Spirits. Finally, it felt as though a light had pierced the clouds surrounding Solei. She managed to calm her nerves and walk down the stairs of the chapel alongside the Priestess, before telling both her fiancé and parents her new plan. Having never truly had a conversation with their daughter, the Lavants were thrown aback by her defiant statement. They tried to win her over with gifts, logical arguments, and threats, but before long, they realized that trying to change her path would just drive her further away from them. And after all, they had more children to worry about. The Church would take good care of Solei, and before long, they found themselves staunch supporters of her new path in life. Now a member of Undine's Sect, Solei would be able to put her skills to good use, sharing the Healing Magic she had been blessed with with the unfortunate people she had met on her Grimoire Selection Day. |
