A strong storm displaced the golden dunes of sand in the Parun desert revealing a deep and dry rocky canyon. Mages and archeologist scowered the new area, thirsty for adventure and knowledge, but nobody seems to have returned yet. Or so it is said. Despite the lack of sightings of these adventurers (now assumed dead) rumors spread around the inhabitants of the area, of an ancient temple made of pure gold, with doorframes of obsidian and walls adorned with gems as large as a human head.
[break][break]
The commoners around the area quickly gave up on the idea, calling it but a mirage of those crazy enough to venture into the cursed canyon. Some nobles, aristocrats and suspicious figures within the area have tried to pay off any strong mage they could find in order to take them along on this adventure.

Requirements for Intro: [break]
As your party arrives one by one in the small oasis town of Vebula, please take this intro post (no need for more than 500 words each) to explain how your character has reached the desert and has been hired by the specific NPC (image and description below) for the adventure.
Toby, the extremely young head of an old cloth merchant family who was forced to take the reins of his dying family business too early. He’s a quiet fellow, and has some very basic skill in water magic, albeit very little ability to control it. Once in combat he WILL TRY TO DEFEND HIMSELF and MAY ACCIDENTALLY HIT AN ALLY with a junior level spell. He knows he’s not perfect, but he is intelligent and tries to aid the group in the puzzles they encounter along the way, trying to ultimately find the treasure in the temple to be able to pour money into his bank and save his family. (If the NPC dies this may result in a fail of the Dungeon.)[break][break]

Around a week ago the doll-like mage had been summoned by her captain about a request that had come in, he gave her the orders that she was going to be escorting the head of a fabric merchant family somewhere in the Parun desert. Yeah what could possibly go wrong with sending a doll-like mage that looks like she would melt in regular temperature, still she knew better than to deny the orders given to her and so made the required arrangements to get her to the allocated assembly point. On the fateful day she was to meet the others she would be doing this task with, she managed to borrow the same white oak and ornate silver broom she had been allowed to use when she went to do training with her captain not that long beforehand. Hinota was dressed strangely at least for her, she wasn't dressed in her normal traditional clothing; instead, she was wearing a white and pale blue sari with her hair done with matching beads within her hair, of course, she was still wearing her Golden Dawn squad mantle. The dress was long but it was clear she had plenty of movement if she needed to run, jump or climb.
It wasn't that long before she was sat once again side saddle as she flew towards the oasis town of Vebula in the fringe, given where she was flying from it took her quite a few hours but she didn't mind too much. She sang and hummed a tune most of the way to focus her mind away from the fear of flying solo and plummeting to her death due to a lack of control or some other strange occurrence. She eventually got to the town and landed looking around she tried to talk to someone to ask if they had seen any of the others she was meant to meet there but they moved away from her before she could even say a word, this made her bite her bottom lip. She honestly couldn't blame them given how she looked but it was still beyond disheartening that it happened. She couldn't help believe that fates were playing a cruel joke with her and her life given her appearance but what could she really do about it? With little help from the locals and by sheer luck, she finally found her way to the exact spot she was meant to meet the others, there was a young man standing by himself by the oasis so believed he was likely their client but upon taking a quick look around she noticed no others, had she really arrived first? She was actually quite surprised because she thought she would end up being late.
"I guess I'm the first to arrive then" she whispered herself before looking to the youngish male bowing just a little "I am Hinoto Yuiee of the Golden Dawn, I am to be one of your escorts." her voice was polite the entire time but she started looking around for the others.
Seren groaned as she zipped across the desert trade routes on the back of her trusty broom golem. As she moaned and groaned there was nobody to reply but ocassional gusts of sandy winds. Funnily enough (but not so funny for Seren at the moment,) she did not actually know what a desert was. A native of the witches forest until being somewhat accidentally and very forcefully evicted, young Seren had been sure that the whole world was a lovely shade of green, just like her hair.
Well, that illusion vanished just as quickly as her orders to head face-first into what was rumored to be a 'mirage + dungeon', as in, many people were disappearing and though the cause was unknown, rumor and speculation pointed to a dungeon being a cause. Being one of the most mobile members of the Blue Roses, the commission had fallen on her to investigate and search for these missing peoples and hopefully bring them back alive. Knowing nothing about the area, Seren had decided that 'when in Clover one should simply do as the Cloverarians do', and had simply signed on for one of the caravans that was likely to go missing while searching for her questionably existing destination.
In her own words, her reasoning had been something along the lines of: "Nihaha~ well if I'm looking for disappeared people~ and it keeps happening the same way~ maybe I should just get disappeared myself then lead them to safety~ it sounds a little scary buuuut~ I dunno what else to do~! Nihaha~ oh jeez~ I suppose if they can identify my body then it might leave some sort of clue~ oooh~ I've just had a clever idea~ I'll keep a doom journal just in case I die~ I very much would not like to do die though~ Niho~"
... .. .
"Nihaha~ Worst comes to worst~ all the bones will just pile up and make a big landmark thus solving the mystery~! ~I'm writing that one down in my journal~ Now~ if it happens I'll get the credit~! Yay~! Then~ they can hang the pretty gold stars from the branches of my funeral tree~"
Seren looked down at her hands gripping the broom with an empty smile. She clearly wasn't feeling too good about all this.
"...I guess I can't just turn around, people might, maybe, need me... Niho...~"
A deep sigh as she continued to fly...
Eventually, Seren identified a town coming into vision, and not long after, she identified the meeting place. Flying in low, she raised her right hand in good spirits and gave a hearty greeting:
"Nihaha~ Heya~ Everyone~! I'm Seren, Great Sage of the Witches Forest~ (*muttered* Low ranking *muttered*) Squad Member of The Blue Roses~ and technically, right now, a private loaned mercenary, yay~! My likes include candy and games, Oh~! And I respond very well to praise, yes~!"
The Parun Desert. This was probably up there on the list as one of the many places that Saki had never thought she'd ever pass by. There was just no reason to, unless she was incredibly desperate to get away from the eye of the law. At least, before the shattering, anyway. She supposed that she was apart of that law, now. It was a strange couple of weeks, for sure. As Saki trudged through the sand, spying the town she was supposed to arrive at, she thought back on the reason she was here. It was supposed to be a job to escort somebody, a nerd and his dumb attempt to get rich, though she believed the real mission was to...investigate disappearances? People, Citizen and Knight alike, had been swallowed up by the desert chasing this dumb temple thing, and her superiors wanted to know why.
Saki was all for looting old temples for their goodies, but she believed the simplest answer was just that people were idiots and didn't pack enough shit for a trek through the desert. But...a job was a job, and she'd do this at least. Saki felt she had needed to stretch her legs anyway, and had recently been training new spells she'd wanted field tested, so here she was in the middle of nowhere.
'Probably would have been smarter to grab a broom, at least.'
Finally, she'd arrived at the town; a little oasis of green and blue in an endless expanse of sand. Taking a moment to sink her flask in the water, splashing a little of its refreshing coolness on her face with a thankful sigh, she stepped over to where she believed the meeting place was. She didn't actually remember the exact area she was supposed to meet up, but she did at least remember the face of the guy she was supposed to meet up with, so that's who she went looking for. Taking another swig of the flask of water, she maneuvered her way through the throng of people, taking a guess that she'd be looking near the edge of the town since the kid she and a few others would be escorting would likely be ready to be off on this misadventure almost immediately.
Sure enough, she was right. At least for the meeting place part. She found him with two other girls, both of them wearing magic knight mantles- A Golden Dawn and a Blue Rose.
'Oh man. This just gets fucking better and better, doesn't it?'
Hopefully these two wouldn't be pompous assholes like their squads been built up to be, but hey, maybe she was wrong about the whole thing. She was willing to be that, at least. Tying her flask to the belt on her waist, she stepped forward with a lazy wave of her hand. "Yo, everyone. Merchant...Tobias? Saki, Green Mantis. How's it going?" She'd ask, a grin on her face. "I hear you're going on a dungeon dive. Might be fun to come along."

Pángǔ groaned with each bump of the wagon as it crept closer to the town of Vebula. He muttered to himself and cursed his mother for forcing him on this crazy trip. He was glad that things were going well for her, but trying to expedite his climb to a position he wasn't prepared for wouldn't end well for anyone. Still, he couldn't refuse her and now here he was in the middle of the Parun Desert.
He was dressed sensibly for the weather, but still, the heat was getting to him. He wore a pair of tan cargo shorts that looked to be more than a few sizes too big. The only thing keeping them up was a belt wrapped tightly around his waist. His shirt for the day was an oversized white muscle shirt. A pair of tan boots and a tan hat finished off his outfit. In his tan backpack, he had a set of warmer clothes, a few towels, and water bottles. Just in case they were there until nightfall. He hoped it wouldn't happen, but it was better to be safe than sorry.
It took what seemed like forever for the cart to make it's way to the oasis. A smile briefly spread across his face as he realized that his journey would soon be over. Then the realization that he's about to be thrust into a hellish dungeon dawned on him and it was quickly replaced with a frown.
He felt the cart slow so he stood, using a handle on the ceiling for support. Once his ride stopped it took only a moment for him to gather his belongings and jump out the door. The cart had taken him to the meeting place so all he had to do was find his employer. He let out a sigh once he noticed the group. It wasn't difficult to spot them. The Magic Knights hanging around a guy fitting the general description of his employer gave it away fairly quickly.
He placed his staff in its holder on the size of his backpack before slowly making his way over. Once he got close he bowed for a moment before introducing himself. “My name is Pángǔ Shēngxiào. It will be an honor fighting with you all today.”
Story Progress: [break]After assembling themselves together, your party is accepted by Toby with a little nod. The boy raised an eyebrow at the black-haired mage from the Green Mantis for misusing his name, but said nothing more. He knew that what he was asking of the Magic Knights wasn’t an easy task and these ones were all eager to help. Courtesy was nothing on an adventure where they could all die.
[break][break]
Toby seems eager to get on with this journey as he walked ahead of the party and lead them out of the city, into the desert. There was a confidence to him; He was definitely familiar with his surroundings and he glances back at you all as you stand at the edge of the now sprawling sandy dunes of the Parun desert quietly. Once he was sure you were all ready to enter, the boy would navigate the wizards into the scorching hot sands.

Requirements for this part:
[break] The temperatures of the desert are scorching!Elements such as water (which will quickly vaporize) ,ice, snow (which will melt) and even some of the softer metals will have decreased spell durability (by 10) throughout this section (which doesn’t need to take more than 1500 words between players). Basically, describe entering the desert and how you are dealing with the insane 105 degrees Fahrenheit (40 Celsius). Feel free to interact with Toby or your fellow players as much as you like while you're travelling.
Name of Spell: Fairy Wink Elemental Type: Ethereal (Oddity- Explosion) Rank & Spell Type: Junior & Healing Range & Speed: 55m Range, 15 m/s Mana Cost: 10, 5 (sustained) Stats Effected: n/a Applicable Perks: Quickshot, Skilled Sniper (x3), Archangel's Blessing, Elemental Oddity- Explosion Description:
Grimoire flashing with a mysterious glow, Seren conjures forth a glowing orb of ether filled with alien runes. When the orb touches Seren's chosen target it envelops them in these sparkling 'fairy runes' so long as the spell is sustained.
Targets enveloped by the spell's runes will heal one junior health level per post. This spell is also capable of potentially cleansing debuffs based off of Seren's control.
As an Ethereal Spell, each target affected will lose 5 mana which will be granted to the caster. Each target may only be affected by this spell's drain once per round. (In the case of this spell, this effect is optional)
Ethereal Spells have the unique power to bypass any objects or structures in their path, though the spell drops a tier in overall power and strength. This can be thwarted by spells whose power or durability stat (depending on the spell in its path) is +5 than the user of this magic’s power stat. These spells cannot bypass structures or creations that are of higher rank than the spell itself.
Seren may create 1 additional Fairy Wink for every 10 control she possesses.
2)
Name of Golem: Apropos: Broom, “Hollow Furnace” Spell Element: Ethereal (Oddity- Explosion) Spell Rank: Intermediate Mana Cost: 20, 10 (sustained) Type of Golem: Balanced Range and Speed: 40 meters, 20 m/s, 2 people 15 m/s (as transport) Health of Golem : Senior Applicable Perks: Lightfooted Golem Description:
Grimoire flashing with a mysterious glow, Seren conjures forth an odd broom-like golem composed of ethereal energy. Capable of emitting explosive thrusts to propel itself, Seren enjoys riding this broom around, zipping this way and that, while leaving trails of aurora in the sky. A mode of transport as well as a last line of defense in emergencies.
Striking or ramming with this golem will attempt a knock-back effect of 4 (+ 5 for every 10 power) meters the golem possesses.
Seren may create 1 additional golem for every 20 control she possesses. These additional golems will typically follow the original like train cars but may serve additional functions as needed
3)
***
(Take note gentle readers and boon companions that while Seren rides ONE broom golem, her spell allows for another broom golem that she keeps around her at all times. That means that should someone so desire, they may be transported free of charge! But wait! There's more! Each of Seren's wonderful broom golems may actually transport TWO people, meaning, that aside from Seren, there are three open spots so long as one doesn't mind a lack of elbow room. Feel free to hop on either if you'd like. When transporting others, the second broom follows the first like a caboose. -Plu)
As Toby, the party's patron and guide leader seemed eager to go, Seren merely followed along in half-good cheer. She wasn't exactly enthused about the heat she had been dealing with, but even these sorts of discomforts could be quelled just a little by good company and the excitement of adventure. So, Seren simply did her best spiritually as she followed behind the young man at a low hover. In her bulging backpack were a shocking amount of canteens of pickle juice she had specially ordered from The Blue Rose Headquarters' Cafe Fleur Galley and Kitchen and Bistro-----or something like that, Seren couldn't quite remember the name. What she did remember was what the conversation had entailed:
"We can spare you the pickle juice... but why would you desire it? It is hopelessly bitter and adds little or nothing to our culinary menu. Pickles themselves can add a nutritious and refreshing texture to a number of summer salads and sandwiches (which we cut into little triangles) but if it is the juice that you desire, far be it from us to deny you. Simply write here the date for us to have your order made ready."
"Nihaha~ thanks~! Oh~! And to answer your question~ It's because the rock candy I'm making is suuuuuper suuuuper sweet, so to eat a lot of it~ you need something reallllly reaaaaaaaallly tart to offset the taste after awhile~ Huh~? You've never heard of rock candy~?! Nihaha~ I'll bring you by some later to try out~ it's my favorite flavor~ Lemon~!"
And with that little recollection, now we can easily assume the other lion's share portion of Seren's bulging backpack: candy. Likely to nobody's surprise, Seren considered yummy snacks on any long journey to be absolutely essential. These supplies, her trusty sleeping bag rolled atop the of her backpack like a soldier, and her large witch hat to provide shade would have to sustain her. And mostly, she seemed to be fairing fine. She was still her annoyingly chipper self anyway.
"Nihaha~! It's kind of quiet and that's a little boring~ hmmmmm~"
Playfully shielding her eyes with her right hand, Seren pretended to look into the distance around her. She also took this opportunity to 'ping' the surroundings with her sensory. Seren knew she was far from an expert at such things, but she at least enjoyed studying what she could sense of the lay of the land.
"Let's seee~ I spyyyyy~ with my sagely eyeeee~ somethinnnnng yellow~!"
"...hm~?"
"..hmhm~~?"
".hmhmhm~~~?"
"...Eh~?! Really~?! That was an easy one~! A total give away~! It was the lemon rock candy I'm carrying with me~!"
Reaching behind herself, Seren opened her pack and removed one small bag of it. Then, opening the little drawstring, she plopped one into her mouth.
"Nihaha~! Wow~! They're suuupper sweet~! Would anyone like one~? They're pretty good at dealing with dry mouth~ Niho~ which I'm quickly learning first hand is a very not fun aspect of the desert... Oh yeah~! And though I'm more of a 'sweets' witch, for our more mature audiences I've also got some super duper tangy tart pickle juice to really take the edge off~ Nihe~ I'm happy to share either, kay~?"
Oh, she was starting to have fun now, as she continued to babble in her sing song voice.
"So~ I feel like we don't know each other all that well which isn't very fun or productive~ sooooo~ Mr. Toby~ Mr. Toby~ is it okay if I ask why you're so interested in super deadly dungeons~? I've heard some nobles are thrill seekers but you don't seem like that at all~ I am a very wise sage so I know this~! Ah~! But since you're the boss don't feel pressured to answer either~! Peer pressure is no good~! Oooh~ maybe we could do this instead~ saaaaay there in the dungeon after we oh so thoroughly breeze through it like awesome spies we come across a myssssterioussss spirit~ and the spirit sayyyysss~
Seren's voice deepened in a bad imitation of her image of a great and powerful spirit of the dunes:
-----'tinkle tinkle hoi, I am a great spirit of fortunes and riddles, but I do not feel like telling riddles right now, so instead I will challenge the riddle of your heart! I am very clever! Tell me! I possess the power to grant you the wealth to grant yourself one wish, but you must spend this wealth on this wish, and there are no take backs or wishing for wealth in and of itself! Because that is boring! You may only wish-buy one thing! What do youuuu chooooose?!'------
"Remember guys~! This is visual training~! This could actually happen~!!"
Seren nodded with eyes of grave seriousness.
"What I would wish-buy would be a really hard choice. I would like a passage back into The Witches Forest beyond the barrier, but because I am a wise sage I know that nothing money could buy could ever surpass our great queen's magic. That's a big sad~ sooo instead~ I think I would think about what would benefit me in the 'now' of my journey~ and that would obviously be a candy factory."
Seren nodded after giving this a great deal of thought.
"Yeah~ no brainer~ a candy factory~ Niho~"
Would it be someone else's turn next? Probably not, but such is the freedom of the sands.
------Later, as they traveled and things got TRULY HOT, Seren would offer a spell to at least deal with some of the worst of it: Fairy Wink, a junior level healing spell that would be able to prevent sunburns and cracked dry lips. Her first choice would be to cast this spell on Toby, Hinota, Saki, and Pangu, which was her limit, but if anyone declined, Seren would then choose herself as one of the targets. She had her big hat, but she still wanted to take measures against turning as red as a tomato if she could help it.
Round Word Count Goal: [1001/1500]
Notable Action Summary:
1) Scanned the environment with her natural Sensory stat. (16)
2) Cast Fairy Wink, her junior level healing spell to prevent sun damage.
3) Seren's been travelling on her broom golem, hovering next to the party.

As the others arrived in drips and drabs she started to look over her own supplies she made sure to take note on each of their names and which squads they came from if any. It had seemed as if their patron wanted to get moving as soon as possible, in her personal opinion it was a foolish move to leave when the temperature was so hot it could turn sand into glass, but she wasn't the one paying for this expedition so would at least try to keep the snarky comments to herself. She really did think Toby was naive and that was saying something given how she was at times.
"We should honestly wait until night falls, it will be easier to travel as the sun isn't forgiving in these heats." she said finally said not sure if any of the others would in fact agree with her on the matter.
In fact, it seemed like it hadn't mattered as the hyperactive witch from the blue Roses had started to proceed forward before anyone could say whether they agreed with her statement or not after checking her supplies. Hinota silently groaned and got on the broom she had once more making sure that she had her own supplies ready, she had made sure to pack more than she needed because she wasn't sure if everyone would have had the foresight to think ahead and there was also the chance that something might happen and someone could lose supplies. She wanted to make sure that she had every probable eventuality covered that she could on this expedition, the last thing anyone wanted was a fatality of someone in their group and more so of the one that had asked for their help. She doubted any of them would hear the end of it from there superiors if Toby died, of course, this was if they had them. In the case of the big guy that didn't wear a mantle, he would an earful from the one that sent him on this somewhat suicidal mission.
It was soon after they had set off that the ever hyper Seren started to comment on how quiet it was, Hinota liked the quiet, it meant she could think a little more but that had come to an end the moment she started to speak. She wanted to know just how someone with the energy of a six-year-old that was in the middle of a sugar rush managed to get into the Blue Roses. She felt sorry for her mother if they had happened to have interacted, her mother had the patience of a saint however so she was sure it wouldn't have worn her down that much. Then again it all depended if it was a mission now, wouldn't it?
"The quiet is quite relaxing, like your name it is very Seren and is often your friend if you are constantly loud you can't hope to hear the world around you nor can you hear anything that might be coming towards you with intent to do harm or help you." she said with a smile, she wasn't trying to be mean or lecture her but it was this was just a fact of her own life.
Seeing how the other started to play I spy in a desert that had nothing much but sand she couldn't help but internally sigh and shake her head a little, she already knew that this was going to be a long trip that was going to be made longer if this sort of thing happened. 'Perhaps if we say we lost her along the way no one will ask to many questions.' she thought to herself, she knew that wasn't the way of squads and that everyone would likely be questioned and with magics that could tell if you were lying or not it meant the truth would always come to light sooner rather than later. She knew a magic knight who committed a crime would be severely punished but this would be on another knight so it would most likely end in them being stripped of their positions and turned into outlaws. Their families would be shamed and the reputations to their squads, if they were in any, would take a hit too, no, this wasn't something she would do as much as it was tempting.
As she continued towards the destination she could feel the heat getting to her just as much as Seren's hyper activeness 'Does she really need to be on any more sugar with how hyper she is currently?' was the only thought that was going through her head as she saw the other plop a rock candy into her mouth before offering some to everyone else.
Raising her left hand she shook her head "No thank you, I don't eat many sweets but it was kind of you to offer Seren." she said not wanting to be rude but in honesty, she had no idea what this 'sagely' witch was on but she definitely didn't want any.
She started to be able to zone out to the point that as Seren started singing and talking to Toby she couldn't hear a single word that was being said, she could read lips of course but that was only helpful if the person was facing your general area. Eventually, she knew she would have to go back to listening to the others and so started paying attention right at the part Seren pretended to be the spirit. At this point, she really couldn't help but facepalm and audibly groan a little.
"Seren, what would a spirit do with yul?" she asked trying to bring the other back into some semblance of reality, to be honest, she wasn't too sure if she had ever been in it, to begin with,
"I mean it's not like they can go into a store and buy something and spirits want for nothing as far as the tales go." with that being said she put her hand into the bag she had and brought out what looked like a bamboo tube with a small lip and started to take a drink from it.
"I have plenty of supplies of food, water amongst other things, please feel free to ask if anyone needs anything." she informed the rest of the group before once again falling silent.

Pangu wasn't so much eager to help as much as he was eager to get this whole ordeal done with. When Seren offered the party a ride he gladly accepted and quickly jumped onto the backside of the second broom. With Hinota declining the offer it meant that Toby would be able to sit behind Seren and navigate. Maybe this trip wouldn't be so bad after all.
When Seren broke the peaceful silence Pangu didn't mind much, but he sighed once she started playing I Spy with herself. “Bǎ wǒ rēng dào shāmò zhōng, wǒ de mófǎ duì zhège fēngkuáng de nǚhái háo wú bāngzhù. Nǐ zài xiǎng shénme?” He muttered to himself as Seren spoke. However, he quickly perked up once she offered him some candy. He eagerly took a piece of it and popped it into his mouth. It was sweet like she said, but the taste of the lemon cut through it some. He thanked Seren and did his best attempt at a bow while trying to stay on the broom.
When Seren brought up the topic of the group not knowing each other very well he nodded and took the candy out of his mouth. “I think the time spent going to this tower would be a good time to get to know each other's Magics as well. We don't want to go in without knowing anything about each other's strengths. That's just asking for trouble, and I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I plan on surviving this ordeal.”
He reached a hand out far enough that anyone interested would be able to watch his display. A puff of wind emanating from his palm blew snowflakes straight up into the air. They only existed for a few seconds before the intense heat turned them into nothing. “I can use Snow Magic. So, sorry about that, but that's not the only trick I've got.” Once he finished speaking a burst of embers erupted from his palm, making a sound reminiscent of the crackling of a campfire. “I've also got Ember Magic. Which may not be much help either since anything we run into will be used to the heat.”
He reached the same hand behind him once the embers disappeared and tapped a knuckle on his staff. “I'm pretty good with this thing though. My fists and feet too if it comes to that. What about the rest of you?”
Pangu chuckled slightly when Seren imitated what she thought a Spirit sounded like. This girl may be crazy, but at least she was entertaining. When she asked the others what their wishes would be he thought of something that was left unsaid so as not to bother the others. “Well if I tell you what I'd wish for then it wouldn't come true, right?”
Turns out the girl wasn't just entertaining, she was also useful. However, Pangu declined her offer when she used her Healing Spell. “There's really no need. An item I carry with me protects me from such minor damage, but thank you.”
When Hinota made the offer of her supplies Pangu felt it best to share what he had as well. “I've got some towels and water in my bag if we need them.”
Story Progress: [break]Toby would be very confused by the loud Magic Knight from the Blue Roses. She first made everyone fly, and then he found her annoyingly talkative, but because he was grateful that they were taking them along on their journey, he would say nothing and just focus on getting this scorching walk over with. (He did crack a little smirk when Hinota commented on how loud Seren was though.) As somebody from this region, the sun didn’t affect him as poorly as it did the rest of your party. He was young and resilient, and consistently took a sip of water when he felt he needed it. When the blond scandily-clad witch offered a weird chewable rock to him, he cocked an eyebrow at it. “Uh…sure.” Lemon Rock Candy? This stuff wasn’t common in the desert. He popped one in his mouth and found that it was…not too bad. In fact, he found that he liked the taste, not that he would admit it out loud. “They’re not bad…” He’d mutter as they continued walking. [break][break]
“I uhh…well, I’m not into deadly dungeons at all. My idiot of an old man died and left me the ruined family business and empty coffers. So I guess…I’m hoping I find something worth value in this dungeon.” The boy would respond honestly. There was scorn in his voice, but there was also something that all of the adventurers would recognize to be eager determination. Unsurprisingly, when Seren asked what he would wish for if he had the chance, he’d say “wealth.” [break][break]
To him, the blond mage whose name he couldn’t quite pronounce had the correct idea. He wanted to talk about magic and Toby would respond that he uses Black Powder (imagine…gunpowder). [break][break]
Little did the adventurers know that their pace of travelling had made them a target for some of the dangerous predators that roamed this sandy land. Large thick-scaled beasts known as young Land Sharks had sensed the tremors in the sand that the party’s walking had made them their pray.

Combat:
[break] Congratulations! You have reached the first round of Combat and are about to maybe get eaten by young Land Sharks! These things are coming at you guys from behind and move under the sand, causing a sound like a large sprinkler when they close to the surface. They come at you guys in waves, first three of them, then two, then three more at the end. As they get within 15 meters of you, they will jump towards you guys with OPEN JAWS from behind and attempt to bite you. You are allowed to RP out hearing them if you aren’t too fucked up by the sun or have particularly high sensory (In this case this would be Seren, since the rest of you all seem to have 0). These things move at 40 ft. per second and are armored like huge tanks on their heads and backs! They resist offensive magic if they are hit anywhere that isn’t on their stomach. They have Intermediate rank health and a landed bite deals junior rank damage.

For Saki:
[break]As you didn’t post in time, I’m going to give you a warning, the one and ONLY warning. Afterwards I start taking away stats and mana skin.
[break][break]
Round 1:
[break]The first three of the young Land sharks will leap at Saki and Toby (as they are the only two on the ground), the second wave of two will leap up at the people riding the golems. I will let you guys deal with this before we continue onto the last wave. This part doesn’t need more than 700 words each.
Saki had kept fairly quiet throughout the journey, not really caring to make small talk all that much. She had just tried to keep out of the blazing sunlight as much as she possibly could while keeping her water level measured, to which she felt she had done a decent job. The desert was blazing, which was causing her to sweat all over the place, but a quick use of her mantle as a makeshift cloth headdress and a few requests for Hinoto to top off her water kept her from feeling more fatigue than she otherwise might have had. It was the walking itself that was doing more damage to her fatigue levels. It had her wondering if they wouldn't take a short break once they found...whatever it was that the merchant was looking for.
It was a little bit of time later as she was walking along with the caravan that she heard the sand shift, a hissing noise that had her turn her head towards the flank of the party to figure out the source of it. The hissing grew louder as her body tensed, not really able to sense anything but knowing that the noise was out of place when suddenly, in a burst of kicked up sand, roared this massive shark looking beast as it wrenched its jaws open to bite her!
Cursing, she immediately dodged backward with her arms up to guard, too late to dodge out of the way of the beast. It's jaws clamped around her arm and Saki groaned in pain, rolling with the beast to lessen the damage as much as she could. With a laugh, one that sounded both furious and excited Saki shouted a few spells of her own, the mana around her crackling to life as lightning coursed through her body, legs and arms bursting with electricity.
"Ha ha, Yo, we've got a fight!" Saki roared to anybody who could hear her, not even bothering to look back as she went to brawl with the beast in front of her. With her Blitz Drive spell active, she was faster than these things, which was something she took full advantage of as she danced around the monster, trying to confuse it for a few seconds before snapping a kick into its jaws in the hopes of using the momentum to lift it a little bit to deliver the final blow to what looked like a soft underbelly. At least, it was softer than every other part of it's body.
With that beast down, she'd immediately turn and look for her next opponent, only eying the monsters attacking her charge if nobody else could get to him in time, doing all she could to try and deliver lethal blows to the monster's underbellies. "Finally, an actual fight! This is what I came for!" She'd yell. She was pretty sure other people could figure out the monster's weakness, especially if anybody was watching her take down one of the beasts.
Name of Spell: Blitz Drive Elemental Type: Lightning Rank & Spell Type: Intermediate / Physical Reinforcement Range & Speed: Self | N/A Mana Cost: 20 / 10 Stats Effected: Reaction Time / Speed Applicable Perks: Full Blitz Description: Saki's body crackles with energy, glowing a slight blue as mana lines appear around her body. This spell speeds up her speed and reflexes, allowing her to dodge and outmaneuver some spells and close the gap between her and her opponents. This buff increases her speed and reaction time by 10 m/s, allowing her to close the distance fairly easily, as well as dodge some of the more agile spells.
Name of Spell: Strike Impulse II Elemental Type: Lightning Rank & Spell Type: Intermediate / Physical Reinforcement Range & Speed: Self | N/A Mana Cost: 20 / 10 Stats Effected: Strength Applicable Perks: N/a Description: Lightning pulses through Saki's legs and arms as errant sparks fly off of her body. This spell increases the strength of her physical damage to Intermediate Rank, dealing that rank of damage every time she lands a blow. This follows the normal spell and PR rules and can stack with Strength perks by 1.5 times. Damage dealt this way causes dark bruises and a painful shock when struck.
Combat Summary:
- She wasn't too messed up by the sun, but could only feel something about to happen seconds before she could reasonably put up more than a desperate defense- which was taken care of with her Close Combat Expert perk, which lessened the damage down to nothing.
- Next action was to pop her spells off, using her mana to bring up her Blitz Drive and her Strike Impulse II. With Blitz Drive, she is moving at around 20 m/s or 65 feet per second, if the math is right. That should be more than enough to outmaneuver them and move around to counter most things. Strike Impulse II brings up her damage to Intermediate.
- Final action she took was to (hopefully) take down the beast, first with a blow to it's armored side in an uppercut, and then a kick into it's soft belly. I feel she's reasonable enough to know that's what their weakspot is after that, assuming she managed to damage it. I left it open at the end so people can write in her doing damage if they don't think they can act in time, or use her to set up their own damage. She should be fast enough.
- Given that she has Quick Charger, she's able to regenerate her mana on the first post and has 15 mana free that isn't being used to maintain her other spells.
Name of Spell: Fairy Compact Elemental Type: Ethereal (Oddity- Explosion) Rank & Spell Type: Intermediate & Healing + Attack Range & Speed: Aoe- 40m Cast Range, 1m diameter orbit ring, 40m range & 1m diameter Counter Beam, 25 m/s Mana Cost: 20, 10 (sustained) Stats Effected: Power Buff (+4) Applicable Perks: Quickshot, Area of Triumph, Archangel's Blessing, Elemental Oddity- Explosion Description:
Grimoire flashing with a mysterious glow, Seren emits a sparkling ring of ether inscribed with rotating alien 'fairy runes' flowing in opposite directions. The inner half rotates left, and the outer half rotates right. While the ring orbits its target, these runes will provide a number of effects.
This spell provides Seren (and only Seren) with a Junior rank buff to Power (+4).
Targets enveloped by the spell will heal one intermediate health level per post. This spell is also capable of potentially cleansing debuffs based off of Seren's control. If applied for three posts, this spell can grow back small digits on a person.
This spell also provides an "interception fire" effect. When those enveloped by these runes are attacked, the spell will provide an interception counter in the form of an ethereal spiral of runes capable of clashing with incoming damage. If the originator of the attack is in range and the clash succeeds per normal attack rules, then the attack may carry on and potentially deal up to intermediate rank damage to the attacker. This spell may only make 1 + 1 Counterattack for every 30 control Seren possesses.
Seren may create 1 additional Fairy Compact for every 30 control she possesses.
Seren may also sculpt the counter attack to avoid affecting 1 + 1 additional targets for every 30 control she possesses. This will cause the spell to lose 20 Power.

Golem Stats:
Power 20 Durability 20 (-10 +40) = 50 Sensory 20 Stat Pool 40
3)
Name of Spell: Ether Stream Elemental Type: Ethereal (Oddity- Explosion) Rank & Spell Type: Intermediate, Attack Range & Speed: Aoe- 40m Range, 5m diameter Beam, 25 m/s Mana Cost: 20, 10 (sustained) Stats Effected: n/a Applicable Perks: Area of Triumph, Quickshot, Damage Awareness Description:
Grimoire flashing with a mysterious glow, Seren brings forth an orb of Ether which she can fire at a target. The orb, upon acceleration, will become a piercing beam of energy before ending in a flash of nothingness. Sustaining this spell produces additional Ether Streams per round. To reaffect a target, Seren must fire at it again. While the spell is being fired, Seren may choose to sweep the beam up to 180 degrees in front of her to affect a larger area.
Targets struck by the spell will suffer intermediate rank damage.
As an Ethereal Spell, each target hit will lose 5 mana which will be granted to the caster. Each target may only be affected by this spell's drain once per round.
Seren may create 1 additional Ether Blast for every 20 control she possesses.
Seren may also sculpt the spell to avoid affecting 1 + 1 additional targets for every 20 control she possesses. This will cause the spell to lose 20 Power.
***
Seren turned toward Hinota with a tilt of her head.
“Ehhh~? You like the quiet~? Really ~? ~Where I’m from, the forest was always making some kind of sound~ in fact~ that’s how you knew everything was okay~! Niho~ no birds chirping would be a very bad sign~ and If they were screeching that was fine too~! Because that would also be a bad sign worthy of note~!”
Head still tilted, Seren placed her index finger on her chin.
“----Yup~ I don’t get it at all~! ~Maybe after this adventure I’ll see what it’s like, Nihe~ since you said my name was pretty~”
A moment later, she was wagging her finger at Toby.
“Bzzzt~! The spirit already said that wishing for wealth won’t work~! Money is just a means, so ending on your means means stopping in the middle~! That won’t solve the riddle of the heart at all~! Stagnation leads to impurity~~~! ~If what you desire is wealth then what you should really seek is the means to accrue it~! ----This is a sage’s insight~!”
Seren winked with all the sure-fire attitude of a used car salesman. Gradually, however, that face sunk into a frown.
“Speaking of the quiet~~~”
Saki, however, said it first.
“~~~Yup~ she got it in one~ Enemies detected~ Niho~~~ They’re under grou---sand~?”
Locking eyes with Pangu, something about the boy said that he would not be fighting using her spare broom, so when he hopped off, Seren brought it back to her.
“Nihaha~ Hay~ Everyone~! They’re trying to flank us and that’s pretty annoying~ I’ll call their locations and trajectories so watch out~ [Insert where the sharks are coming from and where they’re headed here].”
As she said this, her eyes quickly found Toby and Hinota, right then, she decided to cover them first. Her first instinct would have been to take to the sky, but studying Saki’s form, Seren quickly realized that taking the high ground wouldn’t give her the shot she needed.
----Okay... Stay calm Seren... One thing at a time... Just need to put one broom in front of the other...
Seren’s Fairy Wink faded as she took a deep breath.
“Ether Cannon Magic~! Fairy’s Compact~!!”
As the original runes dissipated, two glowing rings of the same were sent to surround Toby and Hinota. This was an intermediate healing spell, but its main purpose at the moment was for the insurance it provided with its interception system.
----Nihaha~ Hopefully it won’t come to that because I actually haven’t tested that feature yet~! Ahhh jeeeeez~! Better hurry~!!!
Pivoting to face Toby, Seren gripped one broom golem in each hand like ski poles as she crouched forward and braced for the recoil. A pair of ether propulsions later, Seren was blasting herself across the sand as she slided towards Toby. Pulling in and angling her brooms, Seren then used their thrusts to unfurl in a right spin, and as she did so, she swung out with her left broom on the trajectory of where she sensed the creature surfacing.
“Broom Arts~! Unfurling Lotus~!”
Seren’s planned strike aimed for where she thought the lower jaw might be, and its objective was to uppercut the monster and expose its soft underbelly. Her second planned strike was ferocious thrust with her right broom at that underbelly intending to knock it backwards 14 meters.
Finishing that maneuver, Seren came to a stop and released both broom golems as she readied her next spell.
“Ether Cannon Magic~! Ether Stream~!”
Grasping an orb of ether, Seren accelerated it to form a beam. She fired where she thought the shark’s soft underbelly would be, sustaining the beam as she swept it to where she sensed two more sharks (the second wave) approaching in the distance.
----I’m not sure if it’s going to have any effect at this distance... but hopefully I can at least disrupt their formation and buy us a little time...
“Guuuuys~! There’s another wave commminggg~! Niho~!? Two~? Sage’s Insight says it’s two~! Beginning cover fire~! Handle the other close one first~!”
Combat Summery:
1) Called the locations of the first wave of sharks and declared a second wave is coming in X time.
2) Removed Fairy Wink from party and replaced with Fairy’s Compact on Toby and Hinota
3) Seren moved to intercept the shark golem coming for Toby by swatting it with her broom golems, attempting intermediate damage and a knockback of 14 meters.
4) Seren ends her turn by firing a piercing beam of ether potentially dealing intermediate damage to the shark targeting Toby and sweeping it at the next approaching wave to potentially buy time. The range of the beam is 40 meters.

Pangu was slightly disappointed when Toby said he'd wish for wealth. Seren had indeed mentioned that you couldn't use the wish for money. He could have just wished for some expensive item for him to sell and get money from that. Easy loophole. Maybe other people's brains weren't wired to find cracks and intricacies during a conversation like his was.
Pangu didn't have much time to mentally scold Toby before Seren warned the group of the impending attack. Like the Witch had assumed he jumped off her broom and onto the sand below so that he could fight. However, no sooner did his two feet hit the ground than he saw one of the Land Sharks lunging at him. If not for Seren's predictions the beast likely would have knocked him off the broom, but instead, he was now staring down the hungry predator.
The Land Sharks were much faster than Pangu, but luckily he had barely just enough time to move his left arm in front of his face. Instead of chomping down on his head, the monster clamped its jaws onto his forearm. He was still knocked to the ground and pinned under it regardless. He screamed out a stream of curses in a language the others likely didn't understand as he was assaulted.
While the others defended Toby it seemed like Pangu was left to fight off this one on his own. Pangu balled his right hand into a fist and went to punch the Land Shark in its face, but all that succeeded in doing was hurting his knuckles. He changed his tactics and started raining down blows on the creature's eyes instead. Their hide may be armored, but it was a safe bet their eyes weren't. His true goal was to get the beast off him by attacking vital areas. Any damage done by the attacks was just a bonus.

Hinota had remained quiet since the last time she spoke, in her mind, there was no real need to waste energy given they were in the first layer of hell with this heat. She turned her head towards Pangu when he brought up they should know about each others magic, she had to agree on this after all with this knowledge they could support each other better. She lifted up her hands and sakura blossoms with an interesting peach smell and gas like mist appeared around it.
"I have flower and miasma magic, of course, they always smell a bit funny. I'd rather it over the miasma smelling bad of course." she said watching as the petals floated away to the dunes ahead on a warm breeze.
'Great, as if it wasn't warm enough in this place.' she complained internally a smile remained on her face however as they continued to move forward.
When she was requested she would bring out bamboo flasks and fill Saki's container without issue, why she didn't just take the bamboo water canteen was beyond her but she wasn't about to argue or complain the fact. "Saki was it? I believe you could use one of the broom golems and save yourself from being fatigued and you as well Toby." she said noticing there was plenty of space behind the two others, she would have offered one of them to be at the back of the broom she was riding but she wasn't really sure of her being on it let alone anyone else. She honestly didn't need that kind of responsibility.
She took a sip of her own water every now and then to prevent heat stroke or fatigue, the last thing they needed was one of them to blackout. She quirked an eyebrow turning to Toby as he spoke about why he was going on this journey and what he would do if he was able to have one wish. The young doll-like mage closed her eyes and sighed quietly to herself, she never wanted for anything thanks to her families good fortunes and couldn't complain due to it, the thing was she would be able to do without all the fancy clothes, ornaments, luxury homes and yul. She knew to be a commoner it would have made it near impossible to gain access to her current squad or a few others but also knew if you could impress their captain they may make an exception for you.
"Forgive me if I speak out of turn here as I have never been in your predicament..." she opened her eyes and turned to gaze them right at Toby "Your father may have left you with a struggling business but he at least loved you enough to leave you something as he passed, you don't need a wish to make wealth come your way. You need confidence in your wares, business and wealth will then come your way, besides..." she smiled gently her voice calming "For as bad as you have it, there are always going to be people who have it worse." she said trying to help him understand to look at what he had in a positive way, she was sure his father wanted to do the best for his son.
"There are nobles like myself that will back small businesses if the wares are good enough so make some samples of what you make, they don't even need to be very big and send them to some nobles, you may get a bite." she said with a friendly tone trying to give him some advice on how to get his business up and running.
She herself looked and dressed like a doll and often bought things from smaller, less-known businesses if they sold things to her liking as did some of the people she knew. Even if he made small outfits for dolls and they were good enough nobles would buy them for their kids, she knew each of her dolls had a wardrobe each filled with clothes and believed many other young nobles were the same way. Afterall girls tended to emulate themselves onto their dolls so if they had a huge wardrobe filled with clothing their dolls had to have the same. Ah, the innocence of youth, she wished she still had that and in a way, she guess she did but she was trying to change that bit by bit as time went on. Her captain had been a great help in taking a huge part of that away after seeing him topless during training in the forsaken realm, she doubted she'd ever forgive him for it to be honest. It was then she felt the heat in her cheeks and realised it wasn't from the sun, gods damn it why couldn't she get that image out of her head and certainly it was the last thing she needed to be focusing on right now.
She turned her gaze towards Seren listening to her as she spoke of the forest she called home, she guessed she came from the witches forest, made sense after she called herself a sagely witch after all.
"I can see your point, but those are natural sounds inside a forest, out here it could alert people and things to our location." she really didn't want to think on fighting, the training with her captain had been bad enough on that front and she didn't really want a repeat performance if she could avoid it.
She smiled and nodded "Your name is very beautiful, I'm sure you would enjoy the song of the birds and trees if you listened to them quietly. I'd even sit with you and have tea if you liked." she wasn't even sure why she was offering it but before she could stop herself she had extended the invite to the 'sagely' mage.
She was glad to hear Serene also give the youth a lecture in her own way how he needed to work for the wealth he so badly wanted, at least she wasn't the only one who thought this. "Very much insightful sagely wisdom." she said with a smile, she had no idea why she was doing what she was doing with Seren as she was everything she hated. She was noisy and chaotic, still, it was like there was a tug towards her it was quite the enigma indeed.
She had been so distracted that she didn't hear anything come towards her, it wasn't until Saki called out that there was going to be a fight that she finally snapped out of her own daydream. Yup, that was going to bite her in the ass later she was sure of it. It seemed as if Saki was excited about the fact that they were going to be fighting, she, on the other hand, was not as it wasn't as it wasn't her strong suit. She moved her broom to be in front of Toby quickly as she was notified that there were enemies under the ground and they were flanking, that was bothersome, to say the least. She knew she and the three others could handle it due to three of them being knights and the fourth looking like a walking brick wall, she, on the other hand, wasn't willing to wait and see if Toby could handle himself.
"Toby, please get on the back of my broom." she said her tone was still gentle but held a tone of urgency within it, the undertone also showed that this wasn't a polite request but more a polite demand. "You and I would just get in their way if we stay here within range of the enemy..." she started to explain "We can be of more help above the battlefield, you will be safe and I can still heal them from there." She stressed but now would have to wait to see if he would do as she requested.
Combat Progress: [break][break] For Everyone: If you are using spells please copy paste them so I don’t have to click through everyone’s grimoires to make sure they do what you say they do.[break][break] For Saki: Your OC mana regeneration is 30 not 40 as calculated by staff. You took down the first young Land shark that was attacking you just in time for the second one to also leap right at you, but Seren’s Ether Cannon Magic took out the second one going for you and Toby. (You and Toby had the first three attacking you and you only took care of one while Seren dealt with the other one going for you). [break][break] For Seren: With the intermediate damage that you dealt at the one attacking Toby, it’s body is knocked back and it falls tummy up in the sand. You also take out the second one heading for the pair on the ground but are unable to slow the second wave down with the body as they simply dodge around it before jumping up at Pangu and Hinota. [break][break] For Pangu: Your item takes the damage from the initial attack as you are pinned under the young land shark that leaped for you. You do manage to deal junior rank damage to it by hitting its eyes and it lets out a screech of anger and pain as it moves back off of you. You can move from underneath it now and do as you wish. [break][break] For Hinota: First of all, I love you, but don’t double the word limit. This is a warning. If you do, at least do what Saki and Seren do and write me a summary at the bottom. I am not going to discourage you if you want character development, but make it easy on me as your Game Master please. Word limits are set because combat is complex and there are lots of rules for me to follow. I’m loose with everyone when you RP out of combat. But in combat, do follow word limits please. [break][break] Toby eyes you when you talk kindly of his father and you can see something happening in his head. He says nothing more on the topic. You saying that you might support his business seemed to have surprised him sincerely, however, and you see some gears turning in his head. [break][break] Once combat began, the boy would get on the broom behind you and fire off a junior rank Black Powder offensive spell at the young Land Shark that made an attempt to attack you, successfully knocking it back before it leaped back at you guys. [break][break]
Round 2: Saki and Seren have taken out the first wave. Both young Land Sharks from the second wave are still engaged in combat with Pangu and Hinota (with Toby who she is sharing a broom with) and have junior health left. The Third wave has two of the young land sharks making a leap for Saki and another for Pangu, as they are the only pair actually touching the ground. The sharks still have Intermediate health and a landed bite deals Junior rank damage. This part doesn’t need more than 700 words each.[break][break]
