Hinota had started to climb up the steps but stopped midway hearing Pangu started to speak to herself and Seren, all she could do was smile a sweet smile as he apologised to the pair "There is nothing to apologise for Pangu, you know exactly what your body is capable of, far more than someone you've known for a mere few hours but it is always better to be safer than sorry don't you think?" her tone was as soft as it always had been and showed no ill will towards the elder male.
"I have no such abilities..." she bit her bottom lip as she started to think on what her own frail doll-like body could do, perhaps this was something that she would be able to train over time but she had no idea how.
"I ended up with two elements with strange smelling spells." she said sadly, she knew that she was gifted in her own way but it was clear to her that things like this were truly out of her league at current but she would improve over time, she was sure of that.
Once again she started up the steps, this time she got to the top and due to following the rules on the bottom step she managed to get to the top without being blasted back, she could only imagine how bad it would have been to someone like her. She shook her head knowing that she shouldn't think like that, she was a magic knight and for one of the more successful squads even though her family was less than thrilled when they found out but due to how their family traditions went unless she was released of duty there was nothing they could do. To be honest she was pretty sure her parents would have tried to get her released from the Golden Dawn and her captain being as stubborn as he was wouldn't release anyone without a good reason. She knew it was unlikely her parents would have one and so would have been sent away until they could deliver one but right now that was only speculation on her part.
Her train of thought was soon halted as Saki spoke in a somewhat irritated manner, she couldn't understand why the other would be upset in all honesty but then she guessed the other wasn't as fortunate in her background so being told to bow to some egocentric being could have been enough to push her over the edge. Bowing was something common in her own background, not as low normally she would have to admit but it didn't overly bother her as it was needed on occasion. She actually dreaded if she even thought about bowing that low to Zaven, he would have ended up running her ragged until she got it through her head that it wasn't acceptable to do to him even if he was her superior. It was so strange to be raised one way and then thrust into situations that acted the complete opposite, it was definitely a culture shock and a half to her.
It seemed like the test really had been the thing that had upset Saki "There's nothing wrong with the first test, in being humble we keep grounded and able to continue our journey to better ourselves." she said calmly as she started looking around the room quietly before stepping into it.
As they all entered she watched as the braziers came to life almost as if they had been triggered by their presence, her eyes adjusting to the light within the room slowly. Walking closer to the wall the temple wall she noted that it seemed to be made from the same glistening obsidian type material that she had seen outside previously, it filled her heart with a little bit of dread as she didn't really want to meet the beast that could turn rock into obsidian, the heat that would have been needed to do that alone would kill them for sure. Going back to the group she watched as Pangu poked the bridge with his staff, she guessed he was checking to see if it was sturdy enough to hold their weight. With that test done she followed Pangu down the bridge to the centre platform and watched as more text appeared.
"Present your offering..." she whispered looking at the trinkets, weapons, wealth and even bones around the central altar, her eyes going to Pangu as he spoke.
"I think like we all had to bow for the first trial, I think we all have to offer something for this one." she said as she undid her mantle and placed it on the altar without hesitation, to her it was her most cherished belonging and hoped it would sate the being that was lord of this place.
Without a second thought, she took some of the jewelled beads from her hair and held them out to Pangu, her hair still held up but it was easy to say it wasn't as steady as it originally had been "It is easy to see that your items have sentimental value to you, so please take these and offer them." her voice was gentle as always her smile too had remained ever-present on her face, she believed that wealth was something that should be shared with others as it could go as easily as it came. She would wait until they were taken or declined by Pangu before lowering her hands and watch what the others would offer as tribute now she had made hers.

Having paid her respects and continued her advance, Seren fell back to the rear of the formation to play rearguard once more. The chatty witch was once again mounted on her broom as she sat side-saddle and hovered behind her companions. Losing the candy stung but she was doing her best to not be too down about it. Her second broom was near her, as a shield or maybe a bat, in case any more fireballs decided to appear. As they went, Seren heard Pangu apologize, but she waved it off with a shrug and a laugh.
“Nihaha~ don’t worry about it~ I think it’d be weirder to -not- be angry about being on fire~ right~? ~Niho~”
Hearing Hinota begin to get down on herself, however, Seren lightly tutted at her as she ‘air patted’ her shoulder from a distance much like the air high five from earlier.
“Now~ Now~ Hinny~There are many kinds of magic~ but kindness is the rarest and most precious of them all~ few things are as powerful~ and even fewer are ever in so great a need~~~ ~Niho~ and that goes without saying that having two elements is very very special~!”
Seren waved her pointer finger with a wink.
“~~~Remember~ among the senses~ scent is the most underestimated one of them all~ few think about a scent until it’s upon them~ and there are few greater reactions than when one does~ Nihaha~ if this dungeon has a major mold problem you can bet anything that it’ll be you I want to snuggle close by~! ~Ahhh~ but from a distance because of the touchy touchy thing~~~~ A fresh smelling forest is a clean forest~ and a sign that many things are well~ let’s just leave it at that~~~ Niho~”
Since Seren was the last in the column, or at least, I think she was, Seren did in fact catch a glimpse of Pangu’s markings. She thought it was very pretty and that it might make for a fun campfire conversation, but on account of their current environment, decided to set it aside for now. Seren’s eyebrows were furrowed and her sensory on alert as she looked for any other traps or surprises. Her eyes seemed to glimmer with a mix of apprehension and daring as a wavy grin played at her lips. The self proclaimed sagacious witch was doing her best to be prepared for anything.
Nevertheless, they arrived at their next big test of character without much incident. Seren’s eyebrows rose in curiosity as she studied the words, and soon after, she found herself voicing her thoughts aloud while bringing Saki’s apprehension to bare:
“Niho~~~ Mr. Toby~ you wouldn’t happen to be the kind of person that values the -intangibles- in life would you~? Nihaha~ because this might be the first dungeon I’ve ever encountered that asks you to leave things rather than take them~! Nihaha~ it’s very interesting~ but it does not seem like a great way to get rich in many ways except experience~~~ I’d add getting rich in friends~ but on account of all the traps~ the odds are good that your average adventuring party might very likely wind up leaving a few of those behind as well~”
Seren winced as she looked around.
“Nihaha~ there isn’t some special reason in your heart for venturing here right~? Like~ a hidden history~? ~Some family curse~? ~Maybe that you are in fact the last living heir of a great and forgotten empire~? Nihaha~ because I have a funny feeling that if what you offer is at the very least equivalent to what you gain~ then someone who gives up treasure and wishes for gold~ is going to wind up with just about what they came with and a whole lot of wasted effort~”
----And I hope you wouldn’t be silly or desperate enough to sacrifice something inherently precious for gold~ Niho~
“Nihaha~ but you’re the expert Mr. Toby~ as my big oopsie that I don’t want to remember from earlier showed~ so you’re very very sure that our reward is going to be greater than our offering~?”
Seren tilted her head. Regardless of what Toby answered, she had a feeling that the young man wasn’t going to turn back. And so, Seren dug deep and turned the squeaky wheels in her mind toward answering what she should leave on the altar. Twirling her hair, Seren continued to purse her lips as she thought. Finally, Seren’s vision wandered downward where it fell upon her dangling feet...
...No, it wasn’t quite her feet that she was looking at. Almost flinching reflexively, Seren heaved a great deep sigh. And that is because what Seren was actually looking at… was her boots.
Seren loved these ankle boots and they were custom made. She had even paid multiple of her magic knight salaries to order multiple pair, and though she had spares like the rest of her clothes, she loved each and every single set. Athletic and stylish and one of a kind, Seren did not covet the property of others and she rarely possessed even one iota of jealousy, but of her own things that she poured all of her love and care into? This was going to hurt…
Groaning, Seren removed her precious boots, and dusting the soles with her hand, hovered over on her broom and placed them upon the altar. Seeing them sitting there, she almost immediately regretted it.
At this moment, Seren very much wanted to see everyone home safe, make her report quickly, and then go and take a great long bath with mountains of bubbles. But she had a feeling that they still had a ways to go.
Stepping inside of the building, Saki took a look around, mentally cataloging all of the stuff that was piled up in the circular center of the room. There had to be at least a eight digit amount of Yul worth of gold, paintings and old weapons in this room alone...but also reeked of a trap. Saki wasn't stupid, she knew when something looked too good to be true. So she settled for viewing it all from a distance, albeit sadly. It was when she got closer to the center, past the main bridge that she was greeted with more of those flaming words, this time asking for an offering.
This really one of those dumb as hell 'tests of character' dungeons, wasn't it? Gods above, this was annoying as shit. Kneel, Saki. Present my dead ass with an offering, Saki. Suck my- well, maybe not that.
Saki groaned, a low, tired moan as she rolled her eyes. "What is with this asshole and tests? Does he just want us to fellate him? Bastard." Saki muttered, checking her gear. Saki didn't bring anything worth trading as loot and there was nothing of substantial sentimental value on her person either. Wasn't the type to do that and even if she was, she'd not take it with her on random outings like this. That was all assuming she had anything beyond memories of dead or nonexistent people. She had a feeling she'd lose her grimoire if she set it down as an offering, but that was the only thing beyond Yul in her bag that she brought. Saki took another look around, taking in all of the massive piles of gold.
Saki raised her arms, purse of Yul in her hands. "All I have is this, asshole!" She shouted up at the ceiling, as if whatever force that created it could hear her. "Not the type for that sentimental shit..." she muttered after, setting the purse in the offering table. If she got shocked for her trouble, she was going to flip the fuck out...but she didn't have anything left but her clothes or her cloak, and she doubted those were important enough to warrant as an offering. They certainly weren't important to her. Her clothes were totally ratty and she didn't care enough about her cloak to be used as a potential offering, which was why the thing had so much wear and tear on it and why the symbol of the Mantis was so faded.
Saki braced for whatever was coming next, because deep down she figured she was going to get struck by some bolt of fire for her troubles. It'd make sense...why would this mage care about more gold when he had it all lined out like this? If that didn't work she'd actually go rooting around this room for an offering, not caring about the consequences, hoping it was more of a stupid symbolic puzzle. Man... when did the fighting start, because she was going to completely lose it soon.

[nospaces] Hinota was likely right in her assumption that each member of the group would need to present an offering. Pangu thought for a moment about what he should give. For a moment he considered placing his backpack and everything in it on the altar, but after seeing what the others offered he decided against it. [break][break] Everyone else, except for Saki, sacrificed something that meant had sentimental value to them. It would be selfish to offer the gift given by Hinota or some random objects he had no attachment to. Pangu couldn't be certain that Seren's boots were important, but her body language and how long it took for her to make a decision told him all he needed to know. However, he was certain that a Magic Knight's cloak meant a great deal to them. The fact Hinota was willing to give it up and face disciplinary action was astounding. [break][break] Pangu held a hand up in the universal sign of 'stop' to Hinota and shook his head. “No. That wouldn't be fair. Without my staff, I'll be next to useless going forward, but there is something else I can give. Excuse me one moment.” [break][break] He then turned away from the group so they wouldn't be able to see his actions. They would be able to see him shifting around for a few moments before placing a glass orb onto the altar. If Seren was paying attention she'd notice that it had the same symbol on it that Pangu had on his lower back. This mark was red and gave a clear image of all twelve animals, unlike the one she'd seen before. [break][break] WC: 272 | TWC: 5288 [break][break]

[break][break] Story Progress: [break] [break] Toby would raise an eyebrow at Seren's series of questions as he eyed the place they entered. "I'm here for money, miss witch, why would I value the intangibles when they wouldn't be able to help with my family's condition?" The young boy sighed as the questions continued and he turned around to face the blond Magic Knight, placing a hand on his hip. "I don't know what this place is. I only know how to get here off of the rumored directions that spread through the village." The boy's golden gaze turned downwards to his feet. "I'm paying you a good amount for this in the hopes that there is indeed hidden treasure worth our time." He couldn't guarantee anything, that's why he was spending the last of his family's small fortune on hiring these people. [break][break] All offerings were presented…a magical cape, a magical eye, about 20 000 yul and...a pair of boots. Toby observed the group quietly as they parted with things that were of value to them and he wondered what he could present. After a short pause he let out a loud sigh and removed a small silver bracelet from his wrist, dropping it on the ground. [break][break] "A memento from my father." His explanation was short and sweet, but he salted quite salty. [break][break] The party would feel a powerful magical presence above them as Seren would barely have the time to react… Something hit the ground in between the group, dealing senior damage to all members of the party, knocking them back against the wall. [break][break] A hulking monster rose from the center of the platform… [break][break]
[break][break] “Your offering…does not appease…gold, jewelry, names, swords…and from all of this, you gathered to present my lord with a pair of shoes?” The Minotaur’s voice was filled with anger and its eyes burned with hatred and fury for the one blond mage within the party. Their offering was not satisfactory. A loud huff left the throat of the monster, as he breathed fire out of his nostrils, ready to punish those that didn’t offer up enough. [break][break] Requirements for this part: [break][break] 1. Upon falling from the cieling, this giant minotaur deals a senior rank knockback spell which will hit everybody head on. Seren has decent enough sensory, therefore she is capable of taking a reaction to this before it hits. Saki, Toby, Hinota and Pangu do not have a reaction to this and will most likely be hit.[break] 2. Whoever is hit by this spell takes senior damage and is knocked into the side of the platform.[break] 3. Seren gets first reaction but will still take the damage unless she blocks it somehow. [break] 4. Toby has his very basic mana shield completely destroyed if this hits him. [break][break] This has to be 400 words minimum. [break]

"Niho~no~you~didn't~!"
Seren shouted at the ceiling informing the party of the incoming adversary/wrestler. She had one reaction, one moment to do something about this situation, and zero time to think… And so, she decided to take a gamble.
Tumbling backwards off her broom, Seren kicked it in front of the party where it began spinning like an advancing propeller to hopefully absorb the incoming shockwave and the force of the knockback as well. Seren’s broom golems have senior health so if it managed to complete this maneuver then that one would likely fizzle into ethereal energy and disappear.
Before landing, Seren reached out a hand to her second broom and fired it after the spinning first like a javelin. This second broom golem was aimed at the minotaur with the goal of knocking him back and off balance, once again, in the hopes of redirecting the attack away from the party.
Touching the ground after that whole maneuver/reaction with a gymnast’s grace Seren renewed her complaint as her turn resolved.
“Nihaha~ you dummy horn-cow~! ~HOW DARE YOU REJECT MY PRICELESS BOOTS~!!! Those mean very very much to me~!”
Seren thrust her finger pointing at the guardian.
“Niho~! And now my socks are dirty~~! ~But that’s not all~ you have dishonored your master’s name by violating the rules of sacred hospitality~!!! ~My friends have passed the test and earned approval so how dare you attack them and with a dirty sneak attack like that~! Humu~ Humu~ I am a very angry witch~! For you to reject what is precious to me and then go on to attack that which is innocent and even more precious to me~! ~How dare you, you dummy judge~~~!!! I demand an explanation~~~~!”
Seren took another deep breath as she planned her next move. Was that it? Or, would it attack again? Seren wasn't sure.
“~If your beef is with me~ (heh heh beef) ~ Niho ~ then act like it~! ~For your offer of hurting my friends I offer my gift in return~! I offer my bravery and my righteous anger~! ~~~~And by the way if you don’t want them then~~~~GIVE ME BACK MY BOOTS~!!!”
Huffing and puffing, Seren’s face was gununu’d into quite the little scowl as her cheeks became a rather impressive pout. The thought crossed her mind of making a different offering (humility!) in spite of the offense. This of course was rather difficult on account of how miffed she was, but still, if it was to protect those around her she'd try again.
Combat Summery (Reaction): Twirled one broom golem like a propeller in front of the party to attempt to block the incoming stream of fire. At the same time, launched the other broom golem like a javelin to attempt to knock back the monster 14 meters to interrupt/redirect the attack while possibly dealing intermediate damage.

[nospaces] Pangu smirked slightly when Toby presented his offering. As much as he protested he hated his father for all he'd done he still carried around a memento of their time together. Ahh, teenage angst. When he gets older he'll learn to love his father, probably. It's too bad that Pangu's angst followed him into the current day. [break][break] All in all the group's offerings seemed like they'd be sufficient. They all had significant sentimental or monetary value. Pangu wasn't sure how much Yul was in the sack Saki threw in, but it didn't seem light. Unfortunately for him, he'd soon find out how wrong he was when he felt a magical presence above their heads. Shortly after a gigantic beast fell from the ceiling and onto the platform in front of him. [break][break] With little to no Sensory prowess to speak of Pangu was unable to sense the being until it was too late. Before he was able to react a shockwave erupted from the ground where the minotaur landed. Pangu was helpless as the blast quickly threw the small man across the room and into a wall on the southeast side of the room. The blow knocked the air from his lungs, but at least he was lucky enough to clear the lava. [break][break] Pangu was lying on the ground coughing as the minotaur said their piece. He quickly stood up while Seren was preparing to throw a broom at the creature that had sent him flying. “Well damn. Guess it's time to fight again, huh? Fine with me. Sun Wukong!” The Spell spilled from his lips once more as he drew his staff from its holder. It took only a second before a blonde monkey tail sprouted from his lower back and Pangu bolted forward. [break][break] By the time the broom had gotten near the minotaur Pangu was using his staff to vault over the pit of lava separating the outer ring and the inner platform. After landing he'd continue his dash forward until he got close to his foe. Being a dwarf meant that sometimes you wouldn't be able to get face to face with your enemy, but Pangu found a way around this. He firmly planted his staff into the ground in front of him and used his strength to lift himself off the ground. He almost seemed to crouch as his foot landed on the tip of his staff before kicking off it and propelling himself into the air to a point where he could 'stand' eye to eye with his opponent. [break][break] Regardless of Seren's success with her attack, the same Spell would be cast by the dwarf. “Arbuda!” As soon as the Spell was cast a blizzard erupted from his waist in a ring around himself. At this height, it was unlikely for him to hit his allies so a wide range Spell shouldn't be an issue. Where he aimed this Spell would be different depending on whether the witch hit with her broom or not. If the minotaur was knocked back by her attack he'd seek to twist his body enough to hit the beast into the lava pit below with the knockback effect from his Spell. If not he'd simply seek to distract and knock his enemy into the wall by aiming the ring into its eyes. Pangu wouldn't be able to blind him, but he'd make one hell of a nuisance. [break][break] Meanwhile, Seren was busy giving a lecture to the minotaur. She was understandably angry and the dwarf shared her feelings, but for a different reason. While the witch was furious about her boots not being adequate tribute Pangu was pissed off at the fact he got caught in the crossfire. However, some more yelling proved that Seren was just as angry about it as he was. He thought about saying something about it, but the girl covered most of what he wanted to say anyway. Hinota watched as the others added their own offerings after she had added her own. Seren offered her boots, she had to admit they looked expensive and how long it took her to part with them showed just how much they meant to her but still, to the doll-like mage, it seemed rather gross to offer worn shoes and had a really bad feeling that it might come back and bite the entire group in the ass. Saki had offered the only thing she had and was the yul she was carrying just by the size of the pouch and the thud of it landing she could tell it was no small sum of money. She had offered some of the jewelled hair beads to Pangu who seemed thankful for the offer but declined as he turned away for a moment before putting a sphere into the centre, she inspected it with interest and wondered what it was but she dared not ask unless it was a sensitive subject. Last to give their offering was Toby he had expressed a hatred for his father but still wore something that he gave the teenager before his passing, she smiled softly knowing that it was a phase the youngest of the group would likely grow out of in time, at least that's what she was hoping but only time would tell on that one as she knew some people never grew out of it.
As the last offering was given she had finished fixing her hair and was about to ask what happened next when the answer came in a very miffed off voice, well miffed was a light comparison as the judge of this particular trial seemed less than thrilled at Seren's gift. She knew that offering was going to come back to haunt them, she found herself wishing Seren had offered the pickle juice she was sure it would have gone down better. It was a liquid and though beyond tart it was still water in essence and thus gave life or due to the vinegar could be used as a makeshift antiseptic for wounds but it was too little too late to advise the other on the folly she had made. Now it seemed like the entire group would have to deal with the fallout, she just wanted to get this over and done with so she could go home and sleep, the heat had messed up her hair so that would have to be tended to when she got home and she knew she would likely need therapy for those bloodcurdling growls from earlier.
She had looked around to hear where the voice had come from and seen him jumping from the ceiling, she had to wonder how the hell got up there and how he remained up there as there didn't seem to be any platforms. Perhaps it was something they could investigate at a later time but for now, they really couldn't. By the time she had noticed the guardian, there was no time for her to react, she really did have to train her ability to sense in some way because she really didn't like getting blindsided by cowmen or anything else for that matter. As the minotaur landed it caused her and what she could tell everyone but Seren back, she cried out as she hit the ground hard, getting up as quickly as she could she nursed her arm and side which currently felt like they had been badly hurt.
Her eyes quickly went over the others "Everyone still breathing?" she asked clearly winded herself, she could feel her own mana shield ebbing.
She realised the only one likely not affected by this issue was Seren who was currently telling the guardian off, she couldn't help but facepalm on this one especially as she started it with an insult "Seren, it's already annoyed don't give them more ammunition." she pleaded with the witch.
"Seren, we don't have the right to demand anything from anyone, especially from a temple guardian inside the temple they are guardian to." she tried to get the angry Seren to see sense but wither she would manage it was another matter entirely.
She again sighed "Seren offer the pickle juice..." she finally said "Water gives life, true it is tart but it will still quench thirst and people can live days on water alone. The vinegar... it can act as an antiseptic to clean wounds." she informed the other, bravery was all well and good but righteous anger? that was an attack waiting to happen.
Before she knew it however both Seren and Pangu had unleashed attacks in the hopes to hurt if not get the guardian minotaur over the edge and into the lava below. She really didn't like this and it showed in her body language, to her there was another way and it didn't need to end in the death of anyone or further injury to either side. She was sure there was a peaceful solution, there had to be. She felt her anger building up for ending up in this situation again and for a brief second she felt herself falling into an abyss like she had before.
'No... no... not again... not now...' she thought to herself as she took a few deep breaths trying to calm herself and not concentrate on the fighting but helping those who were hurt.
She started by raising her hands and moving it towards Pangu as he had leapt from his staff, a magic circle starting in red and turning to pink appearing in front of it as a flurry of pink and red strawberry-scented rose petals flew forward, she watched as they started dancing around him as if trapped in a wind before splitting off and heading to Seren if Saki got close too they would soon part off once again and start dancing around Saki. As this was happening her eyes got a deep brown ring around them briefly as the aroma of freshly ground coffee could be smelt amongst the sweet-smelling strawberry scent she touched her own wrist leaving a marking knowing that this would start healing her before quickly moving to Toby so he would get the benefit of the healing, it was the first time she had dual casted spells and knew she wouldn't be able to keep it up too long, she just hoped it would be long enough to keep everyone safe before she ran out of mana.

The rose petals start seemingly dancing around the target as if trapped in an air current. By using the ammo rules this allows they petals to split off from the original target to heal additional allies, while these petals are dancing around her allies it will continue to heal them over time while attempting to remove any hexes, curses, poisons, venoms until fully healed or she ends the spell.

The sound of Seren's warning was all the time Saki had to react before she was thrown bodily into one corner of the platform, sliding along the ground as the shockwave drove her down onto the metal. In that one move, she felt her mana skin completely shatter, it flickering for a moment before slowly beginning to regenerate. She shot to her feet with a curse, readying her spells on standby. She was all out- Blitz Drive, Strike Impulse II, Flow Defense II. Each spell added ever brighter crackling electricity, until she was practically glowing with mana lines. The idea was to rush in, using her close quarters knowledge to allow her Flow Defense to lessen the blow. Blitz Drive was to give her a boost in speed for an edge, and Strike Impulse was a way to give her own blows more oomph.
It was a dangerous play, given her mana skin wouldn't be recharged enough to stop a blow like that again - it'd kill her, actually - but man, if she wasn't ready to fight and totally pissed off. She wasn't totally ready for this mission, she'd admit, but these stupid puzzles were starting to piss her off. Now a challenger had stepped into the ring, telling her that one of their gifts weren't good enough- she didn't care about who it was, this thing was getting its ass kicked. If it's master had a problem with that, well damn, guess they'd have to get their ass kicked too.
"Alright, you beefy bastard. Come down from the ceiling to strike at us, will you? Fine then!" Saki roared, feeling her mana blaze with electricity as it went into overdrive. She rushed in, going for a flanking maneuver as she eyed the broom golem speeding towards the monster, with Pangu up in the air casting his own spell. She was tensed up and watching the monster's movements, going forward on her plan with the assumption that this tough bastard might tank the other two spells and be fine, She'd go for a simple strike to the skull with her leg, using her boosted speed and power for a bigger oomph to her assault, assuming it wasn't knocked back into the lava by either one of the other two mages spells.
If that didn't work, and the monster showed no damage, she'd have to think up another strategy, but it was the best one she had.
Name of Spell: Blitz Drive Elemental Type: Lightning Rank & Spell Type: Intermediate / Physical Reinforcement Range & Speed: Self | N/A Mana Cost: 20 / 10 Stats Effected: Reaction Time / Speed Applicable Perks: Full Blitz Description: Saki's body crackles with energy, glowing a slight blue as mana lines appear around her body. This spell speeds up her speed and reflexes, allowing her to dodge and outmaneuver some spells and close the gap between her and her opponents. This buff increases her speed and reaction time by 10 m/s, allowing her to close the distance fairly easily, as well as dodge some of the more agile spells.
Name of Spell: Strike Impulse II Elemental Type: Lightning Rank & Spell Type: Intermediate / Physical Reinforcement Range & Speed: Self | N/A Mana Cost: 20 / 10 Stats Effected: Strength Applicable Perks: N/a Description: Lightning pulses through Saki's legs and arms as errant sparks fly off of her body. This spell increases the strength of her physical damage to Intermediate Rank, dealing that rank of damage every time she lands a blow. This follows the normal spell and PR rules and can stack with Strength perks by 1.5 times. Damage dealt this way causes dark bruises and a painful shock when struck.
Name of Spell: Flow Defense II Elemental Type: Lightning Rank & Spell Type: Intermediate / Physical Reinforcement Range & Speed: Self | N/A Mana Cost: 20 / 10 Stats Effected: Endurance Applicable Perks: Close Combat Expert Description: Crackling energy courses beneath Saki's skin, covering her in odd glowing blue lines that glow brighter when struck; a hum of energy being heard when the spell is activated. This spell doesn't do much beyond increasing her physical endurance, allowing her to shrug off a single rank of Intermediate Ranked damage per post that this spell is activated, so long as her Durability holds up against her opponent's Power stat.
Combat Summary: Popped her melee fighter spells, lost a good chunk of mana, all of her mana skin (next turn she should start regenerating a bit) and is going for a flanking maneuver for a three pronged assault type deal.
Seren managed to block the damage for herself and Toby, who was standing closest to her. They wouldn’t be knocked back, but everyone else in the party would feel the effects and take damage from the knockback. The minotaur would whip out his spikey mace and pour magical energy into it as it struck the Apropos: Broom, “Hollow Furnace” golem straight on. The spell wouldn’t know him back, as it was met with a power equal to its own, shattering the golem while also dealing [junior] damage to the minotaur because of the force. Saki would manage to properly land a hit for full [intermediate] damage onto the back of the large humanoid because of the broom focus. The bovine would turn around and attempt to kick the young Green Mantis mage away from him with his hoof, dealing [Intermediate] damage upon impact. [break] [break]
“What is important to you is not of importance to me. You are not the ones that matter here, my Master is.” The giant bovine explained, its furry eyebrows knitting together before it held it’s place at the center of the platform. “Your kind really hasn’t changed at all…it takes everything too personally.” The minotaur would then glance back at the two recovering members of the party on the side of platform and the transformed human that tried his best to be a dragon. How adorable. [break] [break]
Pangu’s Arbuda attack would land head on, dealing full [junior] damage to the Minotaur, pushing it [half] of what the spell would usually be able to knock it back for. In response to it the bovine would stomp a heavy hoof down onto the ground, shaking the platform. How annoying. [break] [break]
“Pickle juice? Human…you need to get your priorities straight.” This actually got a laugh out of the minotaur. His mana was pouring into that spikey mace as he listened to you three going around, his mug was watching Hinota with interest. A diplomatic one? One who had issue controlling her anger, it would seem. [break] [break]
“You stand before Duke Vael, the Dragon Slayer of the court of the Great Lord of this Temple.” He explained. His instinct for combat was triggered…and his weapon was ready. His hues were watching Saki, Pangu and Seren specifically. He had ignored most of the blond witch’s taunts. She clearly hadn’t gotten the memo of the things around the floor… [break] [break]
“I’m supposed to be one of the more diplomatic ones of the court, but this is starting to become too fun to pass up.” The sentient creature said with a laugh as he swung his mace over his shoulder preparing to strike back if either of the men got too close. The mana would shift in the air as it poured into the monster’s large mace…a magical weapon of some kind…Pangu would recognize that much out from the usage of his own eye. [break] [break]
“Your witch has disrespected our Master with her offerings, and then has attacked me, alongside two more of you. What do you have to say for yourselves, children?” His voice was quiet, this was more of a scolding than a mocking. His last word was kind of teasing. He'd fight them if they wished, the Duke could never say no, he was just going through proper procedure.

Capable of emitting explosive thrusts to propel itself, Seren enjoys riding this broom around, zipping this way and that, while leaving trails of aurora in the sky. A mode of transport as well as a last line of defense in emergencies.
Striking or ramming with this golem will attempt a knock-back effect of 4 (+ 5 for every 10 power) meters the golem possesses.

Name of Spell: Fairy Compact Elemental Type: Ethereal (Oddity- Explosion) Rank & Spell Type: Intermediate & Healing + Attack Range & Speed: Aoe- 40m Cast Range, 1m diameter orbit ring, 40m range & 1m diameter Counter Beam, 25 m/s Mana Cost: 20, 10 (sustained) Stats Effected: Power Buff (+4) Applicable Perks: Quickshot, Area of Triumph, Archangel's Blessing, Elemental Oddity- Explosion Description:
Grimoire flashing with a mysterious glow, Seren emits a sparkling ring of ether inscribed with rotating alien 'fairy runes' flowing in opposite directions. The inner half rotates left, and the outer half rotates right. While the ring orbits its target, these runes will provide a number of effects.
This spell provides Seren (and only Seren) with a Junior rank buff to Power (+4).
Targets enveloped by the spell will heal one intermediate health level per post. This spell is also capable of potentially cleansing debuffs based off of Seren's control. If applied for three posts, this spell can grow back small digits on a person.
This spell also provides an "interception fire" effect. When those enveloped by these runes are attacked, the spell will provide an interception counter in the form of an ethereal spiral of runes capable of clashing with incoming damage. If the originator of the attack is in range and the clash succeeds per normal attack rules, then the attack may carry on and potentially deal up to intermediate rank damage to the attacker. This spell may only make 1 + 1 Counterattack for every 30 control Seren possesses.
As an Ethereal Spell, each target affected will lose 5 mana which will be granted to the caster. Each target may only be affected by this spell's drain once per round. (In the case of this spell, this effect is optional)
Ethereal Spells have the unique power to bypass any objects or structures in their path, though the spell drops a tier in overall power and strength. This can be thwarted by spells whose power or durability stat (depending on the spell in its path) is +5 than the user of this magic’s power stat. These spells cannot bypass structures or creations that are of higher rank than the spell itself.
Seren may create 1 additional Fairy Compact for every 30 control she possesses.
Seren may also sculpt the counter attack to avoid affecting 1 + 1 additional targets for every 30 control she possesses. This will cause the spell to lose 20 Power.

“Niho~? What do I have to say for myself~~~?”
Seren’s eyes narrowed as she took another great deep breath… only… what followed was an equally great and deep sigh. The minotaur was being surprisingly reasonable, moreso than Seren would have ever expected. And somehow, even beyond that, Seren felt a certain… kinship with the minotaur. All together, Seren’s rage had subsided.
“What I have to say is.... ~my bad~ Niho~ I too have labored in the industry of service~ and now realize that I have been unreasonable~”
Maybe that shockwave is because he's not aware of his size~? Niho~ Like from a society of giant minotaur people who do nothing but work out~?
Seren’s shoulders drooped at the memory of a haunted mansion she had been assigned to assess the damages of in the interests of an extremely influential noble with far too much disposable capital at his hands. If only she had the power of his assets, then perhaps her offering would have been more universally appealing. Seren now realized that her boots were at the very forefront of the avant garde, frankly she felt a little flattered at the misplaced thought.
Seren quietly cast two spells, there was no air of hostility behind them. The first was to resummon her broom golems which appeared alongside her. The second was Fairy Compact, a healing spell with a very long description which essentially healed intermediate damage and attempted to counter attack any hostilities on its target. She placed this on Saki and Pangu so as to heal their wounds and mana skin.
Glancing back at Hinota, Seren nodded. There was just something about this girl, something that ALSO made Seren feel a certain kinship with her, perhaps that it was that in her own astute wisdom that she ALSO recognized the numerous health benefits of pickle juice? Maybe that was it.
“~Based on what you have said sir guardian~ I shall not offer the pickle juice that I have brought~ Niho~ but allow me to correct you on one thing without attempting to sway you~~~ pickle juice has multiple health benefits aside from being simply a simple beverage of daring tastes~ in hot environments pickle juice replenishes the reserves of the body far better than any ordinary water~ and its humble natural vinegars keep one free of any distasteful insects while ALSO doing wonders for the skin as well~ Niho~ I am testament~ even after marching long and hard across the desert my skin is gorgeous and smooth~! ~Pickle juice is one of the many wisdoms of human industry~ that even I~ as a foriegn born witch of the witches forest must pay my due awe to~ praise be to the human behind pickle juice~ long live such ingenuity~ so inspired by the tale was I that I even went and created my own candy to enjoy it with~ proving that pickle juice even has an effect on the soul of industry~”
Seren nodded as she raised the canteen of pickle juice as well as the last of her lemon rock candy.
“I do not offer these testaments of time’s progress to your master if you do not feel they would desire them~ but I would offer them to anyone I meet because I enjoy them and would like the world to sample the things I value~ such as yourself~ ~~~~care for either~ Niho~? They are very yummy~”
Seren opened the bag, ate one of her precious lemon rock candies before opening a canteen and taking a swig of pickle juice. She then held up both to the minotaur tilting her head. Regardless of the minotaur’s decision her speech continued.
“I am a ascetic witch trapped outside her homeland~ I travel an endless journey seeking the wisdom of enlightenment~ and so~ I possess little in the way of wealth~ Niho~ if your master has never met a true blooded daughter of the witches forest~ perhaps the novelty of the experience would be a suitable offering for him~ otherwise~ I can only think of only two other offerings~”
Seren crossed her arms and nodded.
“Unlike~ the kind lady behind me who requested I offer my pickle juice and who has also offered to offer for her precious belongings for my sake ~~thanks by the way hinny~~ my magic knight mantle was not earned~ it was given as a gift of protection and is the reason I serve my general with all my heart~ Niho~ I would also feel pretty disgusted with myself using her precious memento even should it grant me entrance~~~ Gifts to your person should not be gifts to be given away~”
Seren nodded, with a strangely serious air. Maybe she really was a sage. Probably not.
“~In a corner of my homeland known as westbranch~ my treebourghood where I lived among other witches of my disposition~ we had a contest known as Witch Arts Refine~ it was fighting contest not to celebrate death~ but life~ there we would battle in honor duals either in singles or teams not to decimate our opponents with strength~ but to create a spectacle with the beauty of our graceful maneuvers~ Niho~ you said combat would be interesting~ Niho~ and I too feel the pull to demonstrate my abilities~ but this young man behind me is the reason for my journey and I cannot disregard his time~ this troubles me greatly Niho~”
Seren nodded once more.
“And so~ Niho~ the only other thing I can offer is the law of surprise~ a blood pact of what material treasures I find on my widespread journeys~ I would offer these to your master until I have paid mine and my companions’ boons twice over.”
Seren sighed a little.
“I could also just wait outside~~~ Niho~~~ but that would be a grave loss for me~ because your master seems very very fascinating~~~ but to endanger my charge for my sake would be strangely backward~~~~”
I reaaaaaallly don’t want to fight something trying to be reasonable~ Niho~ I didn’t like fighting the sandsharks either~~~ but they didn’t give us much choice~ what a waste~~~~
Seren thought, reserving that final mental sigh for the back of her mind.
Combat Summery: Seren resummoned both brooms by her side. She also healed Pangu and Saki intermediate damage with Fairy Compact.

[nospaces] So much happened in such a short time. The enemy was able to easily block Seren's attack. That alone was scary, but the fact that he was able to effortlessly push away Saki only proved that this was an enemy that shouldn't be fought. His spell hit, but that was likely only because Seren provided a distraction. Soon after the familiar smell of strawberries wafted to his nose as he fell. Hinota had used her healing spell on him once more. [break][break] When Pangu hit the ground while it was still shaking from the minotaur's stomp causing him to fall on the ground like his staff had moments before. He groaned and rubbed his lower back as Duke Vael began to speak. For some odd reason, he was being somewhat reasonable and hadn't just attacked them outright. Never in his life did Pangu think he'd see a beast capable of not only speaking a human language but understanding it. He thought the only thing capable of this was a Spirit. How could such a thing be possible? Not only that, but it was directing an immense amount of magic towards its weapon. He considered saying something to the group, but Seren began letting out a monologue before he could. Pangu hoped that her words would be able to calm the beast. [break][break] Pangu stood up and slowly walked after his staff so he could pick it up as Seren spoke. It turns out the girl wasn't so silly and airheaded as she seemed. Perhaps she was a sage after all, but those were questions for another time. One thing in particular that she said had a more significant impact on the dwarf than the rest of her speech. Once she mentioned not giving away gifts he felt a twinge of guilt in his heart. The item that he'd offered to the Palace to allow himself entrance was a present from his father, but sometimes you have to make tough decisions. It was either give up something valuable or turn around. He couldn't just walk away after having come this far. Pangu would just have to make it up to him later and hope he understands. [break][break] For a while, Pangu was calm and quiet until Seren was done speaking. He still was a bit annoyed at how things went down. The dwarf sighed before crossing his arms and staring up at the minotaur. “You're the one that dropped down from the ceiling and hurt most of us. If you had a more docile entrance we wouldn't have assumed you were an enemy. Thank you for being so understanding and not just trying to kill us right off though. It's surprising to find a neutral face in a place such as this.” [break][break] WC: 458 | TWC: 6397 [break][break]

Hinota continued to nurse her injured body, she couldn't help but wince as she remained between Toby and the fighting that seemingly was going on and so kept the spells going, she knew that with Seren's healing she could bring down petal dance soon but would need to keep the one on herself going a bit longer. It was clear that she wasn't built for combat just by how she was currently carrying herself, she sighed hearing the minotaur saying that their kind hadn't changed, her body instantly switching from someone who was injured to someone that was in perfect condition as she walked towards him. Her deep forest green eyes keeping direct contact with his, it was clear even with his angered eyes she wouldn't back down.
"You are saying we haven't changed yet it was you who caused harm first due to an apparent insult that no one could have expected." she said continuing to move forward, her eyes focused as she walked passed the others.
"With all given respect and humility, I understand that your master and yourself have a sense of importance more so within this temple in which we are currently guests, however, an offering is just that... an offering." she continued stopping in front of him starting to remove all the gems from her hair, within the centre of the rubies seemed to be small stars trapped inside, they weren't magical in any way it was all visuals. "An offering can be asked for from people but the expectation a certain thing or group of things can not be demanded or else it is no longer an offering but a tithing or tribute which is something a dictator or a tyrant would do." her voice was completly respectful as she spoke on this matter as she knew it would do no good to anger him.
Once removed her long black hair fell to be on her back as she then removed a small vibrant crimson and gold silk pouch from the folds of her sari she was wearing and put the rare gems into it. "Nobles rarely change, the same goes for gods, their messengers or guardians... they are rarely humble and normally expect and demand more from those they believe they have power over." she said calmly her eyes going to Seren holding out the pouch to her.
"Offer these, they are rare star rubies or at least that's what my father told me. They're worth about twenty thousand or so." She smiled happily towards the other, these were meaningless to her at the end of the day especially if it meant she could help others, to be honest, they would be extremely meaningless to her if she died all she would be is a very pretty corpse.
Her eyes went to the guardian in front of her she had no sensory but being so close to him she couldn't help but feel the pressure of his manner but stood her ground. "Though we rarely change, there are always some who are different... that do take different paths..." her eyes went to her mantle sitting on the piles of gold and jewels, closing her eyes as she fought back tears as she remembered just how important it was to her after Seren spoke about how she would be disgusted with herself if she gave a gift.
"Seren, you're words..." she took a deep breath to centre herself as she bowed to the guardian for a moment in respect before turning her back to him and looking Seren dead in the eyes.
It was clear that the young woman couldn't keep the tears back and they freely flowed from her eyes down her cheeks "They hurt..." she whispered, her hand going towards her mantle "My captain gave me that when I believed I had no other options other than what I was being told by my parents." She closed her eyes for a moment feeling her eyes sting "I didn't find out until something bad happened during some training with my captain that, that was 'his' old mantle before he ascended to captain... It is proof of my defiance of my family, my want to change, the faith my captain has in me... my potential..." her hands were still on the small silk bag but she pulled it to her heart.
"Some times an item is just that... its monetary value means little it's the memories behind it that is worth the greatest fortune." her voice was trembling as she spoke holding out the pouch once more for her to take. "I'm sure Pangu and Toby can say the same..." she said noticing just how Pangu's body language had changed just slightly and Toby had openly admitted that his offering was a gift from his father.
"The guardian said gold, jewellery, names and swords…" she moved once more to put the pouch into the witches hand "Perhaps memories are also something that is accepted, so, perhaps this is a rich offering of experiences of not just you but everyone here on what we have learned about ourselves and each other." she said pulling her hand back leaving the pouch in Seren's hands before moving back into the folds of her Sari and bringing out a few white silk cords from it to start to tie her hair back so it wouldn't get in her way going forward.
She still felt horrible over offering her mantle but it was far too late to change her mind on her offering and she knew it, she would accept any and all punishments from Zaven when she returned to her squad's headquarters, it would never be as bad as she was currently feeling. She honestly wasn't looking forward to that conversation in the slightest but it was something that would have to happen as a missing mantle was going to be quite noticeable from the moment she got back, then again it wasn't as if it was something she would try and hide, she would go to Zaven directly and explain the situation as was expected after a mission regardless.

- Still feeling the aftermath of the knockback - Body language changed hearing the words from the guardian - Walked up to the guardian with confidence keeping eye contact the entire time - Politely and respectfully called him out for his actions reminding him he was the one who did them harm first - Humbly and respectfully reminded him that an offering was just that and what he and his master were doing aligned more with dictators and tyrants - Noted that the guardian and his master had every right to feel important within the temple and they were merely guests within their domain - Took the star rubies she had in her hair out (Nothing magical merely aesthetical jewellery) - Called the guardian out on how he said 'their kind hadn't changed.' pointing out those with power rarely do but there are some who do defy the odds. - Seren's words upset her and so started crying - Explains what exactly her mantle meant to her and its importance - Reminds Seren that monetary value means little at the end of the day, its the memories that have real value - Reminded Seren of what kinds of things that were accepted as offerings and suggested memories too would be accepted - Gives the pouch of star rubies to Seren saying that they were filled with the groups experiences of this expedition - Tied up her hair while feeling guilty knowing it was too late to undo her offering and that whatever Zaven put her through would be easier than the sick feeling she was currently feeling
Duke Vael raised an eyebrow at the sudden change of behavior from the blond mage. What a pleasant surprise…so she did have a brain. He watched her cast two spells, none with malicious intent and then listened quietly to her speech. Pickle Juice…hmmm…perhaps he could consider it something to give more thought too indeed. [break][break] “I see your point, loud one, however do understand that those of us that inhibit this desert…don’t really get thirsty…or sick for the most part.” The Minotaur shared, making a little motion towards himself and then the door he was guarding with his four fingered hand. When he was offered some of Seren’s snacks, the bovine would blink before trying to take a lemon candy between his fingers, causing a crack onto the surface of the sugary dessert before picking it up and placing it in his mouth. He chewed sideways, and the party would hear the shattering of the candy loudly within the chamber…Weird child, was she trying to bribe the Slayer of Dragons with a sweet and sour delight? [break][break] “I…approve of the flavor…what did you say this is again? Laymon? Lamon?” The bovine swallowed and hmmed to himself. This was surprising, weirdly refreshing…not horrible. Acceptable. He listened to Seren quietly as she spoke while trying to add meaning to the flavors he had experienced. He felt his hues widen however, when the Law of Surprise was brought up…my, my… He could practically feel his Master laughing in satisfaction at such a delightful offer. [break][break] His attention turned to Pangu as he expressed thanks for being understanding. The Duke shook his tail, his red mane swinging all around. “That was not my intention, to intimidate perhaps, but I have little control over who I hurt. For you see…” The Minotaur gently picked up a skull off of his belt. He then lifted his spikey club, and the party would feel a dangerous essence of mana peak from it, as the bovine touched the skull gently with one of the mace’s spike, before the skull shattered simply…and then the pieces blew up in little simultaneous explosions. “My weapon, The Morningstar, can be temperamental if not handled correctly, it’s a bit like a bomb. Gravity can make it act as well.” The Dragon Slayer explained as he perched the piece over the shoulder. A powerful chaotic relic… The bovine chuckled softly. “I definitely wouldn’t say I’m neutral though…my life belongs to the Master of the Temple and the Head of the Council.” Vael was not one for deception; he preferred handling his problems head on and with the force of a wildfire. [break][break] The petal-using female also spoke up about his Master’s ways, making his smirk a little. He would respond nothing to her opinion on offerings. She was young, she’d lived…what? Thirteen…no, Perhaps Fifteen or Sixteen years, and she believed she knew how society worked. The girl really needed a wake-up call of some kind. She did, however offer up a very expensive looking hairpin with rubies that she assured would be worth it. [break][break] The minotaur sighed. The young wizardess would learn her lesson soon enough. “There is no need for you to offer anything more, the witch’s offer of the Law of Surprise would do more than enough. She has offered a blood contract and in essence, a part of her future being to my Master...” Duke Vael paused, glancing at the door. He admired Hinota’s determination to get passed the door, even if he didn’t actually know her name. What an interesting group of adventurers…
“He is pleased. My Master will agree to see you now.” [break][break] As the words were spoken the lack obsidian doors on the other end of the chamber would start opening…The Duke motioned for them to enter the chamber. [break][break] Toby would be watching this set of interactions going on, his head mostly down as he watched Vael with suspicion. He was the first to exhale in relief as they seemed to have passed this challenge and the doors started opening. He’d follow behind the group as they headed in that direction. [break][break]

“Nihaha~ wowowow~ Awesome~!”
Seren’s eyes had stars in them, her namesake, as the volatile properties of the mace were presented.
“Nihaha~ You know I’m something of an explosion connoisseur myself~ but I think you’ve got me beat for now~ It appears that I have work to do~ Niha~”
What happened next however, was truly unexpected and made the self proclaimed sage of witches flinch. Seren’s face twisted at what she’d done to Hinota, the gems being forced into her hand despite her protests.
...that’s what I get for trying to sound cool~ niho~ some wisdoms should be kept to one’s self because what’s done is usually done for good~ sage’s punishment~ niho~...
…~Maybe I can get them back for them… someday…~ but I shouldn’t outwardly make promises that I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep…~ or I'll just be getting her hopes up~... I don’t like this very much Niho~... but I don’t think that’s Mr. Guardian’s fault~ it sucks to be poor~ sage’s insight~
Seren inwardly sighed both in relief and exhaustion as they were at last granted permission to pass. Seren waved at the duke.
“Nihaha~ I guess we’ll be getting to know each other a little more in the future~ Niho~ I’ll try and bring you something else interesting to sample next time~ Niho~ along with my first of whatever offerings I happen to find for your master of course~~~ as I don’t think I will be able to fulfill the contracted oath in one trip after all~”
Seren then looked over her other shoulder at Hinota after they had passed the gate.
“Hinny~ that was very brave and kind of you~ Niho~ I’m a foreigner to these lands and frankly haven’t received a lot of kindness in my journeys~ buuuut~ then there *you* are~ all of you really~ to watch my back~ I’m blessed and don’t deserve it~ niho~ I don’t know Mr. Zaven very well~ but as a fellow magic knight I can say that I am sure he would be proud of you~ that mantle represents a brother and sisterhood sworn to protect the innocent~~~~and each other~ Niho~ and that is very rarely very easy at all~”
Overall, Seren’s horizons had expanded as she once again felt an existential excitement and dread at facing the unknown. She chose to once again bring up the rear to keep an eye on Toby, asking him just a little later.
“Has your wound closed~ Niho~? I can heal it for you if you like~ it looked very ouchy and we wouldn’t want it to get infected or scar~ or do you like scars very much~ Niho~? ~Some people I met think they are very, very cool~ you could be like them and say:
‘guhuh, the deal’s sealed bucko, you drive a hard bargain..’
~and put out your hand to shake~ then~ they’ll notice your scar and your eyes will twinkle and you’ll say~
‘Heh oh that little baby? Got that during some tense Minotaur Negotiations. If you’ve got a minute I know a good pub around the corner where I can tell ya all about it. HAR HAR HAR!’
