In the northeastern portion of the forsaken realm, many of the people live off of the land. Whether it is from the food they grow by themselves on their farms, the stag and boar they manage to hunt down in the northern forests, somehow, they manage to make it work. Recently, however, there have been reports about something descending from the north that spooks the local wildlife and takes livestock from the local farmlands. While no residents have gone missing, people say that it is only a matter of time before “The Beast” strikes again. This is why they called it in with the magic knight squads, hoping they can settle the matter once and for all.

Maximum Number of Players: 2 [break]Minimum Word Count: 1500 [break]Location: The Forsaken Realm [break]Special Requirements: For starters, you are to discuss with the locals what they have seen, heard and tried to do to keep the beast out. Naturally, none of what they tried helped, and all of their “information” in terms of how the beast might look is based on hearsay. The only bit of useful information they might be able to provide is where the last attack, or rather, livestock theft took place, as there have been no signs of any animals being killed, just disappearing. Go there, look for tracks, and get ready to track it north.

[attr="class","tamaflowersscroll"] It had been quite the wild journey from being a young woman being forced by her family to choose between two paths she wanted nothing to do with. The choice of becoming a member of the Blue Rose so her mother could keep a close eye on her or becoming wed and starting a family so young, those had been her choices and on that day she ran away bumping into a man who gave her a third option and a new hope. He had told her as much as she may want to honour her family's wishes there was nothing wrong with stepping off the path they had set for her and making one for herself, he had even been kind to her and offered her a place within his squad. This was how the young woman started her journey as a member of the Golden Dawn. [break][break] Along her path she had done very few trivial things, of course, she had done some basic missions and a few dungeons these were part of the course for any magic knight but she had met dragons and fought several archdaemons, even falling love in the darkness of Kikka while helping to liberate it once more from the shadow. In that same series of events, she saw two daemons do something truly selfless and take themselves out making her wonder if like humans they were all different and if some did just want peace. Only time would tell if this was the case but if she never saw a daemon again it would be far too soon. In honesty, she just wanted to get back to the mundane and peaceful life a regular magic knight lived. Recently her former captain had reminded her of a challenge she made within the witch's forest to him. [break][break] She had challenged him for his position as captain, she had said it in annoyance and frustration after he brought up razing the forest for a second time. Still, the man had taken it seriously and took steps for her exam to be able to take place as it couldn't be a conventional one as she was a pacifist. Instead, the church of gnome had been contacted for the use of one of the artefacts within the vault with a keeper there to ensure its safety. They would reenact the Diamond War and if she managed to change the outcome she would take his position, it was a hard-fought exam but she had managed it and became her squad's captain. There were of course some concerns from some peers within her squad and outside it but as many of the seasoned magic knights and those who had fought alongside her reminded them she had proven her worth time and again. [break][break] She had gotten a request from the Crimson Lion's vice-captain wishing her well and asking if she wouldn't mind doing a task with one of the new knights within his squad. It was a strange request but she believed that he likely was still recovering from his encounter with the archdaemon Asmodeus and so agreed. She didn't see anything wrong with inter-squad relations, having gotten the details she made her way to the location arriving slightly before the time specified. Beside her was a taller male, he clearly wasn't a magic knight but he was some sort of guard. "You realize it's just to gather some information Junjie, it's not dangerous." she said smiling at him. "Something simple can always become more dangerous, but, if you wish when your associate arrives I will wait within an inn for your return." he said wanting to be close just in case something went wrong, she couldn't help but sigh but nod knowing nothing would come out of arguing with the elder man.

Kikka is a town known to be the defensive foot-hold for the Clover Kingdom, it is the town that sits in the grey area of what could be considered the noble region and the common region. It is due to this that there is a diverse range of people and backgrounds that called this place home. [break][break] A young fire mage found himself getting into trouble when he decided to steal some vegetables from a garden of jewellers. The mother of the family was the one that caught him and even told the boy and his mother that they just needed to ask due to them having more than enough. It was the beginning of a new bond between the family and the fire mage. [break][break] Over time the boy grew and where he was wanting to learn the next flashy fire move from the former purple orca. She would tell him that he needed to learn how to walk before he tried to run or those he cared about would get burned by those same flames that treasured so much. Of course, being young he didn't understand what she was getting at. [break][break] The woman's husband attempted to teach the street smart and somewhat rough male his craft. He, of course, got bored real quickly because crafting jewellery was a slow process that often was very detail orientated. Still, the man tried. On the day the fire mage was scheduled to leave Kikka for the exams the man called the young mage into his workshop. [break][break] He was just finishing up a double ring set and told him to put every wish and promise he could into a single flame and release it onto the ring. Somewhat sceptical the fire mage did what he was asked and thought it was for some sort of trinket for the woman that had helped him grow. The man placed the ring into a box and handed it to the budding mage. [break][break] "Valo, we see you as our son and we are proud to see the man you've grown into. You've helped create something that is unique and special, keep it with you and give it to someone that you believe deserves what you put into it." [break][break] The now young man gave bravado with his normal attitude but took the ring. He held onto it for three years until something terrible happened. The family that he had loved so much was taken from him. The one that had seen him at his most vulnerable and had helped him through the grief was a young woman. A woman who themselves couldn't fight due to their beliefs. [break][break] He remembered the ring from all those years ago and offered it to her, telling her if she was ever in danger just to call him and he'd come running.

A warm gift for Hinota Yuiee. After spending a few weeks away from the flower mage, Valo had crafted a beautiful bracelet as a gift for her. Ever since Jevi had joined the Crimson Lion squad it felt like his life had become far more fast paced than it had been before. In the past years, Jevi had complete control over what he wanted to do and when he wanted to do it, taking his time to explore the Clover Kingdom and simply enjoying his freedom away from his father. However now that he had become a Magic Knight, there were far more responsibilities and duties he had to look after. It wasn’t that he particularly minded, yet he also thought that perhaps the Crimson Lions already expected too much from him. While he had a four leaf grimoire and unique magic to go with it, he was still a rookie. There was so much left for him to learn and understand when it came to his magic, and he was doing his best to push past his limits each and every day.
[break][break]
Whether it was his determination that had caught the eye of Hania, or it was the vice captain’s way of getting Jevi to realize his full potential much faster Jevi didn’t know, but on Hania’s request he was to join the recently new appointed captain of the Golden Dawn on a mission of sorts. The details remained unclear, and again Jevi wondered if he was the right person for the job considering his lack of experience. Then again, he’d have the captain of the most accomplished squad by his side, and there was no better way to learn than to actually go out there and work hard. Now that he was a Magic Knight he was meeting one great wizard after the other, and today he’d meet ‘Serenity’s Blossom’ also known as Hinota Yuiee. It was an exciting prospect, and he was curious what the lady was going to be like.
[break][break]
Having learned from Hania, Jevi had also adopted the mindset of being early rather than being on time. It was little trouble to get up a bit earlier and get his same morning routine in before freshening up and being on his way to where he was supposed to meet with Lady Hinota. Like most mornings, Jevi had been doing practice swings with a great sword that was much heavier than the swords he frequently used. It was his way of training his physical strength and to ensure that any other sword he created would feel light in his hand by comparison, allowing for faster swings and ease of movement in general. With his training out of the way, Jevi had gotten dressed in his usual blue garb with black pants, adorning the leather chest guard and leather boots as well as Crimson Lion mantle. Of course, the derpy little ox trinket hung from his belt. “There we go.” He muttered to himself before grabbing his broom and being on his way.
[break][break]
Just as planned, Jevi arrived about ten minutes before the appointed meeting time, and not unexpectedly he noticed Lady Hinota was already present together with a larger man who seemed to be accompanying her. It made sense for someone of her status to have a bodyguard near her, or an aide of sorts. Even if the lady was strong, Jevi had heard that she was not much for fighting in general and her magic reflected this as Hinota was more support oriented. Even if Jevi would have wanted to focus on support, his magic was simply not made for that, which he was fine with. He landed and walked over to Hinota with a friendly, warm smile on his face which was in stark contrast to the cool color of his eyes and hair. “A pleasure to meet you, Lady Hinota. I’m Jevi Suru, I was asked to accompany you today.” As he usually did, Jevi placed his right hand over his heart and gave the woman a simple bow. “Would you be so kind as to inform me of the details of what we are meant to do?” At this point, Jevi still wasn’t completely sure of what it was they were going to do, but he was happy to be of service and get himself involved in taking care of the issues that surfaced within the Clover Kingdom as a Magic Knight should.

Jevi arrives a bit earlier than the appointed time having learned from Hania, and greets Hinota before asking for details on today’s plans.
Due to the lunar year just passing, a craftsman in the town of Hage teaching a new class of apprentices decided to make it a class project. They were to make small trinkets out of oak that look like oxen as with all learners things didn't go as planned and they ended up making derpy looking oxen. The shopkeeper decided to buy everything as she found out that all the proceeds were going to help with the rebuilding of Kikka.[break]
Stats Affected: 25% junior buff to strength[break]
Description:[break]
The holder of this small trinket seems to hold the strength of an oxen allowing them to deal a bit more damage than is normal. Unlike normal items this item seems to grow in strength the stronger the bond it has with the owner much like a spirit or relic allowing this to be trained up to a grand ability. Once bought it is bound to the account it is on and can't be sold back to the store.
[attr="class","tamaflowersscroll"] Hinota smiled watching the elder male approach her, she moved her hands to her left side and bowed traditionally for her homeland, Junjie followed suit by placing his left hand over his right and bowed to him. "It is a pleasure to meet you Lord Suru." she said with a delicate tone. She brought her hand up knowing that Junjie was about to say something "However, there's no need for formality here we are both magic knights working for the betterment of our kingdom and its people." her smile was ever present, she was a vast contrast to his vice-captain although it was clear that they came from the same homeland due to how they both dressed. "I wonder if you have come across my father and brother Ozma as they are in your squad also." She thought he may have, however, she knew that they were often busy with squad tasks and things on the estate so he may not have. [break][break] "Oh..." she said having remembered something. "Do not worry princess, I can introduce myself." the elder male stated bowing once more "My name is Junjie Bai, I am the personal bodyguard of princess Hinota Yuiee, it is a pleasure to meet you." he was calm and formal as he spoke but he was respectful of his position and those around him. "Junjie!" she said her voice still soft but clearly upset "I told you not to." she almost scolded "You are what you are, even if you wish to be normal you are not." It was clear he stuck to tradition and wouldn't waver from it even in front of company though he knew it not only upset her but made her uncomfortable. Like her brother Jirou she believed she shouldn't be doing this kind of thing but he was in no position to stop her so he did his best to protect her. [break][break] "I doubt that is how Hania worded it." she didn't know the man that well but they both knew well enough that where she wasn't an offensive mage she would be able to hold her own in this matter. "Likely said something about getting you more acquainted with other squads and gaining more experience." she said before bringing up her sleeve to chuckle lightly behind it. "It is unlike Hania to send someone to do a task without giving them even a brief rundown of what is going on." she said her laughing instantly stopping only to be replaced with concern for the ice mage. "Junjie would you reach out to your uncle to see if he is doing well?" she knew his nanny would take good care of him but she was still worried and it showed on her face. [break][break] "This area is known for agriculture and hunting, but something has been coming down from the north that has caused the wildlife to become cautious beyond what is normal for them." she began "Whatever it may be has been stealing livestock, although no civilians have been taken as of yet there is concern that it is only a matter of time before it happens or that more of the livestock is taken by what they are calling the beast so they are hoping that we can find a solution before it comes to that." she said gently "So, I think perhaps we should get to work and gather some information. Junjie is going to be waiting in one of the inns for us to finish. Is there anything questions or anything you are unsure of?" she would ask him her voice still soft.

Hinota Yuiee exerted a certain elegance that was unmistakable. It was clear from the moment they greeted one another, and Jevi felt wholly out of place around the lady. A term other than lady would be unbefitting for her, as Jevi had a slight blush on his cheeks as she called him Lord Suru in such a delicate tone. He spoke softly, slightly taken aback but keeping his bearing. “The pleasure is mine. Please, call me Jevi.” It was then that Hinota followed up her greeting by saying that there was no need for formalities between magic knights, which reminded him that Hinota was not just a fellow magic knight but also the captain of the Golden Dawn. It was easy to forget when looking at her that she was indeed the same as him and served the kingdom on the frontlines. She mentioned her father and brother, to which Jevi nodded. “Only in passing, but I have heard of them.” Jevi confirmed her thoughts, a smile on his face as his unease slowly faded away.
[break][break]
It was then that Hinota seemed to remember the man by her side, but he stated he was more than capable of introducing himself. His name was Junjie Bai, the personal bodyguard of Lady Hinota which was exactly what Jevi had expected. There was a bit of a back and forth between Junjie and Hinota, the latter clearly not enjoying the former’s way of phrasing things. It looked like Jevi and Hinota might be more alike than he thought at first, both seemingly wanting to be free from the notions that came with their titles. Jevi chuckled softly at the little argument, before giving Junjie the same bow he had given Hinota. “It is nice to meet you, mister Bai.” Of course, now that he was here he really did want to be given more details about the task at hand. All Hania had told him was that he was expected to meet up with Lady Hinota to work on some case together, but he had not really said all that much besides that.
[break][break]
Hinota seemed to wonder if that was how Hania had worded it, giving her own thoughts on what Hania likely had said and Jevi cleared his throat before speaking up. “What he told me was that I was expected to work with you on a case that was troublesome to gain experience, yes. He seemed rather busy, so perhaps that’s why he didn’t go into further detail. Then again, I believe he is always busy.” He smiled, having come to accept Hania’s attitude by now as he had gotten used to it. He was a man of business, and Jevi could respect that. Hinota was worried for Hania though, and asked Junjie to check up with his uncle to see if he was doing alright. Uncle? So were they related somehow? That was a question he’d ask about later, if at all. It wasn’t his business after all.
[break][break]
In either case, Hinota gave him a short briefing on what was happening. The current area they were in was known for its agriculture and hunting. However, something had been coming down from the north which has caused wildlife to become overly cautious. Whatever this thing was, it had also been stealing livestock, and even though no civilians had been taken so far the prediction was that this was only a matter of time. It was up to them to find a solution to the problem before it got out of hand. Jevi nodded in both understanding and agreement as Hinota said that gathering information first was likely the best course of action.
The elf brought a hand to his chin in thought. “The situation is clear to me now. How about we go to one of the farms that has been struck by this creature? Perhaps they have intel on sounds it has made, or even made visual contact. What do you think?” He would share his ideas, but ultimately Hinota was the one in charge and he was fine with that. Jevi still had a lot more to learn before he could confidently take the lead in any investigation or dungeon. For now he was happy to learn from others and eventually he’d be able to take the lead himself.

Jevi is taken aback by Hinota’s elegance for a moment and shares his idea on how to start the investigation after a bit of talking.
[attr="class","tamaflowersscroll"] Hinota had noticed that Jevi had been blushing since they started to speak. "Very well Jevi, but I request you also just call me by my name." she said showing that she wasn't going to stand on formality if he wasn't going to do the same, in honesty, there was a time and place for such things and on duty, wasn't it. She was going to suggest that he go out with her brother so that they could show him the ropes but she realized that her brothers hadn't started rising through the ranks, it was something that had bothered her since Ozma had been a knight far longer than she had and Jirou was more experienced in the world beyond the mist and yet, here she was the one that had shown them both up by advancing to captain. She hadn't been home since she took the exam so she had no idea how her family had taken it. [break][break] She knew her brother Jirou knew of her promotion due to being in the same squad so she was quite sure that the rest of her family were aware, given how they reacted when she went against their wishes and became a member of the Golden Dawn she was frightened of their reaction to this occurrence, she didn't let it show, however, Junjie could see the worry within her eyes. "I'm sure my brother would like to do a task with someone his age." she said thoughtfully trying not to let what she would eventually have to face interfere with her work. "Lord." Junjie corrected him though his tone was still respectful. Hinota couldn't help but sigh at how formal Junjie was being but he kept close to tradition and she was glad that he did it gave her some sense of familiarity. [break][break] "Junjie's family are nobles where we are from." she informed him softly "And he is quite traditional regardless of if he is at home or outside of it." she was hoping that the other would understand and not take offence to it. "I wish you would be princess." he said looking at her "Junjie..." her tone was still soft but was clearly frustrated at this conversation as it seemed to be one that happened continuously between the pair although he dropped it for now. The pair looked at Jevi as he cleared his throat "A... ah forgive us..." she said seemingly embarrassed over their behaviour. "You are correct, Hania is quite the busy individual between his duties as a magic knight, a vice-captain, his duties as the head of his family, as a lesser royal in general, running a province... I don't see how he has the time." she said showing him just how many balls his vice-captain juggled on a day-to-day basis. [break][break] She could see that Jevi seemed confused when she mentioned Junjie should talk to his uncle about Hania. "Oh, I should explain Junjie's uncle is Hania's bodyguard, however, he was reassigned to his cousin Amaya for a while when she decided it was a good to date a member of the Vermilion who seemingly had quite the dark streak." she informed him "I do not like partaking part in rumours but it is said that he beheaded his father while smirking and took the tongue of one of the maids to send a message that he was the one in charge." explaining to him something that he had heard, but then, he had been exiled from his family and they had lost favour so were now seen as lesser nobles. [break][break] She would listen to him as he spoke "It would seem most logical to go to where the most recent attack happened and speak to the farmer and work our way backwards to the oldest known case as each may give us details the others do not have." she said thoughtfully. "Junjie, if you wouldn't mind waiting in an inn I'll contact you when I am ready to leave." she said moving her hands to the side and traditionally bowing to him which he returned his eyes going to Jevi "Please look after the princess in my stead." he wanted to say more but he knew to do so would not work in his favour. With that done he walked off to find a place to wait for the pair to be done. "Well then, let's get going." she said with a warm tone as she headed deeper into the village.

And as a symbol for his commitment, he got Warmth's Embrace made for her.[break][break]

The slight blush that colored Jevi’s cheeks were unmistakable, especially given his white hair and light-colored skin which made it stand out even more no matter how faint the blush was. Lady Hinota had simply taken him aback a bit with her elegance and delicate tone. It was very much unlike Synthia, who was unabashed, direct and loud. When he stated she could simply call him by his first name alone, Hinota calmly responded by telling him that she wished to receive the same treatment from him to which he nodded. “That’s quite alright with me, Hinota.” It almost felt wrong to not address her as “Lady”, but if this is what she requested then who was he to go against her wishes? It would be unbefitting of him to not respect what she asked for, and it did make him feel like they were on a somewhat even playing field which was a relaxing thought. Her kindness certainly was on the same level as her elegance.
[break][break]
The conversation continued after him being rattled a bit, speaking of her father and brother who were part of the Crimson Lion squad. Jevi had heard the names, and had seen them in passing, but had yet to properly interact with them. Hinota surmised that her brother would likely enjoy doing a task with someone his own age, to which Jevi nodded to show that he was not against doing so at all. Junjie, however, corrected her and mentioned that he, too, was a Lord and should be addressed as such. Hinota clearly didn’t enjoy how strict Junjie was, but accepted it nonetheless as she explained the Junjie’s family were nobles where they were originally from, and he was quite traditional because of it. Junjie expressed he wished Hinota would think in a similar manner, and the frustration between the two was building. Though to Jevi the whole situation was more amusing than embarrassing as he couldn’t help but chuckle a bit. They almost seemed like siblings who were argueing a bit.
[break][break]
When Hinota apologized for their behavior, Jevi waved his hand with a warm smile gracing his features. "There’s no reason to apologize, Hinota.” They spoke of Hania, the vice captain of the Crimson Lions who had assigned Jevi to accompany Hinota on this mission. While he hadn’t given Jevi a complete rundown of the situation, the elf surmised this was simply because Hania was an extremely busy man which Hinota could indeed confirm he was. Besides his duties as magic knight and vice captain he was also the head of his family, a lesser royal and running a province. Just hearing these responsibilities listed was exhausting already, let alone actually performing them day in and out. The young elf began to understand why Hania was the way he was more and more, and nodded in agreement with Hinota’s assessment on Hania having so little time on his hands. “It is quite astonishing, and a lot to live up to as a Crimson Lion myself.” Not that he wasn’t up to the task, as his smile would show it didn’t bother him that there were a lot of expectations to be met. Most of the pressure Jevi felt came from himself, after all.
[break][break]
Hearing that Junjie might be the uncle of Hania had Jevi a bit confused though, and Hinota showed she was excellent at reading people as she immediately explained these relationships. Apparently, it was Hania’s bodyguard who was Junjie’s uncle who had been reassigned to protect Amaya for a while as she had gotten into a relationship with a troublesome individual of the Vermillion family. Jevi frowned a bit hearing this, as he had of course heard rumors of these transgressions which were now all but confirmed. To think Lady Amaya had to go through all of that didn’t sit well with him, but at least she got the protection she needed in the end. “I have heard of these rumors before, but they never fail to disgust me.” Jevi did not like his father whatsoever, but to think about killing him was a step so far away from his mind that he couldn’t even fathom the idea. Not to mention treating another person like this man had treated his maid just to make a point? If these were the nobles of today, he’d rather not be associated with them at all. Thankfully there were those like Hinota, but it was no secret that the commoners did not think highly of most nobles.
[break][break]
With their greeting and some chit-chat out of the way, it was time to formerly get to work once Hinota had informed Jevi of the situation. Hearing the details made the elf come up with a plan of action. Gathering more information was imperitive to solve this mystery, and to Jevi the best place to get more information was to speak to the victims of this creature and see what they had heard or seen. Perhaps there were even traces left of the creature’s actions on the crime scenes. Hinota agreed with Jevi that this was the most logical course of action, and added onto that that they should work backwards from the most recent case to the least recent one. That also made sense, considering the most recent case might have the most clues. “That sounds like a good idea.” Junjie was to wait in the inn as he and Hinota were going out to gather information, and Junjie requested of Jevi to look after the princess in his stead. To have so much faith and trust placed in him was an honor, so Jevi returned the bow with his right hand over his heart as usual. “You have my word that no harm shall fall upon her.” Hinota was a far stronger magic knight than he was, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t protect her. After all, what was more knightly than protecting a genuine princess?
[break][break]
As Junjie took his leave, Hinota took the lead and Jevi followed immediately, taking his spot by her side. “Do you have the addresses of the farms that were hit by this creature?” It was obvious that Hinota had more information than he did, and since she mentioned working their way back towards the least recent accident she must have an idea of where to go to first. In either case, Jevi would follow her lead as he kept his wits about him and ensured they were safe; he had made a promise now and would stick to it. As they walked, Jevi felt that an awkward silence was not going to be helpful for their collaboration, and so he decided to ask the princess a question. “I’ve heard you recently made captain, so a congratulations is in order. What’s it like to be in charge now?” Being the captain of a squad, let alone the Golden Dawn, seemed like a huge responsibility. Jevi hadn’t given it much thought himself, but perhaps one day he could move up the ranks as well? Did he truly want to? Sometimes it felt like he was only keeping himself from moving up the ladder just to spite his father, but what was it that he wanted? And would it be so bad if his wants aligned with his father’s wishes, even after leaving his family behind? Those were the things plagueing his mind, so hearing from an actual captain what it was like to be in that spot might give him some more perspective on things.

Jevi follows Hinota and together they make their way to the first address while he asks her a question about her captaincy.
[attr="class","tamaflowersscroll"] She saw the blush on the elder male's cheeks, she knew that Junjie wouldn't be impressed but it wasn't exactly like he could do much about it as even he had called her beautiful. "Are you not feeling well Jevi? Your cheeks are red." she knew exactly what it was and wanted to bring attention to it without embarrassing him. "I am thankful that you would reciprocate." she said her voice still soft and warm, she could tell that like herself he was also quite formal but understood that there was a time and place for such a thing and this wasn't it. She wouldn't have taken offence if he had refused her request, she would have viewed it as she did with Luli and Junjie, that he was just following the etiquette that made him most comfortable and was expected of him. She could understand that as she was the same at home after all. [break][break] She wished the two closest to her within her family estate would be more at ease with her as she viewed them as her brother and sister, some could argue more so than her brothers but they had never allowed themselves to cross that line even when they were off duty and spent some time with her. The floral mage would turn her eyes at Jevi as he lightly chuckled at how they were acting "A little piece of advice, if you find something entertaining between two nobles I would stifle your chuckle with a cough or you may cause an offence that could end with your name being worth less than the dirt you stand on." she said her eyes and tone were soft, it was in no way meant as a threat but she knew just how many nobles were especially the higher in the echelons. [break][break] "In the noble court of my home country to cause such offence may end up with an entire family in ruin or being executed depending on who felt slighted." she explained showing just how harsh the consequences could be in some circumstances. She shook her head "That is not true, it is unbecoming and I should know better." she said bowing to him again as an apology, she doubted Junjie would ever allow her to move to a kowtow and it would likely make the other uncomfortable so didn't go so far. "The best way to describe your vice-captain is that he keeps the world at arm's length but is also anchored by it." she said thoughtfully "He only became vice-captain to help lift the morale of the Crimson Lions, he never truly wanted the position." she informed him showing it was more a necessity for those he worked with than his actual want for the position. [break][break] "And please do not repeat that to anyone." she requested him, she believed that it may lower morale if people knew the truth about why he became the vice-captain but to her, it was a selfless act to take on the additional burden to help the squad when they had their last vice-captain decide to change to another squad out of the blue. "He comes from a highly respected militaristic and political family." she said walking with him "I expect due to his upbringing and the expectations placed upon him when he was young this is why he seems to be cold, I, however, can tell you he is a good person but he never shows what he thinks of people openly." she said with a knowing smile as she stopped turning to look at him. [break][break] "With Hania, it's not what he shows but what he doesn't show that you need to look at." she said giving him a piece of information that she didn't even believe the man's own family knew. "He shows everything in undertones and micro-expressions." she said bringing up a sleeve-covered hand as she chuckled "I'm surprised that no one has noticed it at this point." it was almost like she was telling him a secret that was so simple that no one had figured it out. "Perhaps it is because of the way things in the imperial court are that I noticed; but, I can tell you something Hania isn't malicious he says and does things to people to help them improve even if they do not see it and end up hating him." she said turning and walking once more "In honesty, I doubt he cares if people hate him or not." she said with a small sigh. [break][break] "Your vice-captain is usually asleep by ten in the evening and is awake in the very early hours of the morning to do his daily training." she said remembering what Jianyu had told Junjie when they all had tea together. "Expectations can be quite a burden regardless of where they come from..." she said almost as if speaking of her own experiences, she shook her head knowing this wasn't the time nor place for this kind of thing. "Even if he truly hated his father that much why not just disown his father and live elsewhere?" she shook her head she knew just how much scandal that could cause but it was better than causing your entire family to lose face for your selfish reasons. "And what he did to that woman was uncalled for, I just hope healing magic was able to help regenerate it but I can only imagine the trauma." she felt sickened by such a thing. [break][break] "Then again, he ended up on Hania's bad side very quickly and the one thing I can say is if you end up on that man's bad side good luck getting back on his good side." she said moving into her left sleeve and using both hands handed him a map with where each attack happened with the date it happened. "Junjie worries so very much but there is no reason for him to unless I end up in a place with illusions but I am working on that." she said honestly knowing her sensory was still very bad. She held onto her sleeves as he mentioned her promotion and nodded a little "I have been captain of my squad for just a few days but unsure if I should be." she said it was clear she was doubting herself. [break][break] "I made the challenge in anger while in the Witch's Forest but it seems as if Zaven took it seriously." she said her voice quieter as she spoke "As I am a pacifist we couldn't go through the normal route so we reenacted the Diamond War and if I could change the outcome I would take over the captaincy... As you can imagine... Diamond bet Clover and there was far less death on both sides." she said showing just how tactical the delicate young woman was it also showed just how much of a threat she could be if she ever decided to change her loyalties. "I dislike being forced into a position of taking charge but I can do so when needed but this happened as a consequence of my own actions." she said stopping at the first farm "I am still getting accustomed to my new role, but, I can tell this is more to do with you than me." she said with a warm tone "There's nothing wrong progressing your career if anything, it proves that you are capable of taking on harder tasks." she said almost as if reading his mind.

It seemed that the light blush on his cheeks had remained longer than Jevi anticipated, as Hinota made a comment on it as she asked if he wasn’t feeling well. Given that Jevi was a rather honest person, he smiled sheepishly as he rubbed the back of his head. “I’m fine, it’s just-…Your elegance caught me off guard. I’m not used to being around a woman so lady-like. My apologies, I did not mean to make things awkward.” It was better to just tell her the truth rather than try and pretend he wasn’t feeling well. Besides, they were supposed to get to work, so he couldn’t have believing he wasn’t feeling his best. While her appearance and the way she carried herself had caught the elf off guard, that didn’t mean there was much more to it. “Of course. It would not be polite to refuse your request.” Jevi gave her a warm smile, showing that he was clearly comfortable with their arrangement. Hinota was definitely deserving of the title of lady, but it was no problem to address her simply by her first name.
[break][break]
As the conversation carried on, Hinota and her bodyguard Junjie had a small argument which Jevi happened to find quite amusing to the point where he couldn’t help but chuckle a little bit. From his point of view these two clearly cared for one another, but both had different ways of showing it. What he hadn’t expected was Hinota’s next comment about it being better to stifle his chuckle or pretend to cough when in the presence of nobles as it could cause someone to take offense otherwise. It was clear Hinota herself was not one of those nobles who felt slighted, but when she told him it could even lead to the execution of an entire family he couldn’t help but gulp. “I’ll…keep that in mind. Thank you.” While his father had taught him proper etiquette, he’d be lying if he said he had always paid attention to the boring lessons. She apologized to Junjie and with that their argument came to a close.
[break][break]
From there Jevi and Hinota talked a little bit about Hania, Jevi’s vice-captain and someone who Hinota was well acquainted with. Apparently, Hania had only taken up the position as vice-captain for the morale of the Crimson Lions. Jevi listened thoughtfully to Hinota’s explanation, his right hand moving to his chin as he mulled over this new information. His demeanor suddenly made quite a bit more sense, and Jevi nodded in acknowledgement to Hinota’s request. “I won’t say a word about it.” While this didn’t lower Jevi’s morale for being part of the Crimson Lion squad, he did feel sorry for Hania having to pick up yet another important role when he was already so busy. A man who tried to keep the world at an arm’s length, yet couldn’t walk away from his responsibilities that tied him to that world. It was admirable of Hania to be so selfless and put his family and the kingdom above all else.
[break][break]
Hinota told Jevi more about Hania, mentioning his upbringing as a reason for why he appeared so cold, but she could assure anyone that he was a good person. Jevi had not once doubted that he was, even though he had found it tricky to get along with the vice-captain at times. Where Hania was a closed book with a lock on it, Jevi was completely open and easy to read. “I have never once doubted that he is a good person.” The elf spoke in a soft tone, not wanting others to listen in on their conversation and get the wrong idea. The next bit of information was interesting too, as Hania showed what he felt and thought in micro-expressions and undertones. The chuckle following made Jevi smile as he looked over at the way Hinota covered her sleeve. It was quite adorable. “I’ll try and see if I can pick up on it next time I speak with him.” Hania not being malicious was hardly news to Jevi. Yes, the man was strict and spoke in a cold tone, but never once was he mean. “He does not give me the impression that he would care for other people’s opinions, no.” Which was a good thing to Jevi.
[break][break]
Hinota sure knew a lot about Hania, and Jevi took in all the information gratefully. If anything, this could help him understand Hania better which would make interacting with him in the future easier. Hania had a strict schedule of going to bed early as well as getting up early, filling his day with a routine he had gotten used to for his daily training. When Hinota mentioned that expectations could be quite burdensome, Jevi sighed softly as his face fell into a slight frown. His right hand rested on his grimoire for a moment, remembering the words his father told him when he first got it. “Yes, they sure can be…” Thankfully the conversation turned to the former partner of Lady Amaya and the rumors surrounding the man. Jevi could sympathize with not liking one’s father, but like Hinota said he had just left. “Mhm, I could not fathom going through with such a thing myself.” As for the maid, the poor woman was likely traumatized. “I do hope she was given the help she deserved and needed, yes. The poor woman…” It was infuriating, but there was nothing Jevi could do to help her. Not back then, and not now.
[break][break]
To hear the man had ended up on Hania’s bad side was to be expected. He had likely ended up on everyone’s bad side. Hania had not given Jevi the impression that he was a man of second chances, so to hear that getting back on Hania’s good side was rough he was not surprised to hear it and merely nodded in acknowledgement. After Hinota had shared all this information, she gave Jevi a map with the locations that were hit as she spoke about Junjie’s unwarranted worries. “I’m sure we will be just fine.” He smiled as he studied the map, still keeping pace with Hinota as he started to see a pattern. Then again, maybe he was just seeing things? He’d need to look at it a bit more in order to know for sure. However, he was curious to hear about Hinota’s experience as captain of the Golden Dawn, and she was happy to oblige with her story.
[break][break]
It had been a really recent development for Hinota, and she had been given a special test to accommodate for her passivist nature. To hear she had changed the outcome of the war so significantly with her strategic approach was a feat to be admired, and Jevi’s face showed as much as he looked at Hinota with renewed awe in his eyes. “That is incredible.” Again, his voice was soft, and he felt quite lucky to be in the presence of such an amazing person. Compared to her, he had a lot of catching up to do that was for sure. Hinota explained that she was still getting used to the new role, but again she had seen right through him and mentioned she could tell it had more to do with himself than her. “I suppose that’s true. There are just some personal hangups I have regarding any career advancements, not to mention the fact I started late compared to most magic knights and have a lot of catching up to do because of it. As it stands, it would do me no good to even consider any higher position…and simply being a regular recruit suits me just fine.” Mostly because he did not want to stand out, however impossible that may be due to his grimoire and magic.
[break][break]
To distract himself from his thoughts, Jevi studied the map again as they were getting closer to the first map they had agreed to visit. As he looked at it more and more, he was certain that there was a pattern to the hits. “Hinota, take a look at this if you will?” He stopped walking for a moment and held out the map properly for her to see it along with him. “I don’t know if you already saw this, but it seems that the attacks are focused on this area right here.” He moved his finger to show the area he spoke of. “Which is only a small part of the agricultural area, isn’t it? It could mean that our target is closer to this area than we might have initially thought.” Jevi would wait to hear Hinota’s thoughts on how to proceed with this information, but from the looks of it they might even be able to forgo visiting the farmers. Their search area had potentially become much more narrow, which could save them valuable time and effort if Jevi’s assumptions were correct.

Jevi talks to Hinota as they walk, listening attentively before studying the map a bit and noting that the attacks were fairly concentrated in one area.
[attr="class","tamaflowersscroll"] She looked at him and as he spoke although she didn't expect his words, she had given him an out and yet he had been honest with her. She could tell that he wasn't meant for the noble court if he was this honest they would be eaten alive, it was a very precise dance and even a slight misstep could cause people to hone in like hungry sharks due to the show of weakness. "I admire your honesty Jevi, but, as you've seen I am quite self-aware and can tell when a person is blushing. I was bringing your blush to your attention without wanting things to become awkward for you." she said honestly showing she was indeed trying to give him an out "Sometimes it is fine to lie, had you told me yes you were I would have simply told you not to push yourself too hard and it would have ended there." she said her voice warm. [break][break] It was endearing for a person to be honest, but at the same time that honesty could indeed end up being a problem when it counted. "Are you, not a noble yourself Jevi?" she would ask him confused as to why he was not used to being around women like herself, then again she could put it down to the fact that she was from the East and so her behaviours were not like that of a noblewoman from the west. She could also chalk it up to the fact that she didn't exactly look like the everyday magic knight but was still of a civilian noblewoman, whatever the case was she was still thankful for the compliment. "Thank you for the compliment Jevi, I am glad you are such a gentleman." she said giving a compliment of her own. [break][break] "You didn't make things awkward for me, but you must keep in mind that like actions words do have consequences." she said reminding him her voice was still delicate as she spoke but she wanted to make sure that he didn't get into situations that could otherwise be avoided as enemies both every day and those they faced on tasks could and would use it against him. "You could refuse my request, I wouldn't have thought any less of you some people are quite formal. I, in fact, refused to call Zaven anything but captain when we were on official business. I believe Hania is the same, I am quite sure he will call me captain even if I request he does not as that is the way he was raised and my formality for the chain of command demanded it." she said with a kind tone. [break][break] She looked at him as he took in what he said about stifling or covering a chuckle "I'm not saying it is that way in the west but in the east if you upset the wrong noble and if they have enough power or the right connections, things can end terribly. Here I am pretty sure they will drag you and your family through the mud and with enough funds they could make the needed evidence or bribe the right people." she didn't mean it as a threat she just didn't want him or his family to be hurt over a noble being petty over a perceived slight. "I'm guessing you fell asleep, didn't pay attention or skipped that lesson" she said covering her mouth with a sleeve-covered hand as she chuckled again. "The thing about being a noble is there are always eyes on you and people are looking for just one good reason." she said looking down her tone turning sombre as she knew it was the truth. [break][break] She smiled once more as she spoke of Hania and was thankful that he wouldn't speak a word of what he had heard from her. "Oh, be very careful what you say and do in front of Hania, he has a perfect memory and doesn't forget." she said remembering when he was going over what the wizard king had said in a speech word for word years later. "He can be hard to get a read on, even his own family can't get a decent one on him, that is why I mentioned such a thing." she said knowing he came off as indifferent due to his stoic nature. "You will have to get used to him so you can find such things but he doesn't spend a lot of time with people if he doesn't need to." she informed him showing that he was recluse in the little off time he got. [break][break] "It's a hard thing because he as a person doesn't but he does care about his family's image." she said showing it wasn't exactly a straightforward situation. "I have been brought up to care about my appearance, how others view me and how what I do will reflect on my family. It is why I still look the way I do even while doing this kind of work." she said knowing that she still had makeup and ornaments on making her seem almost doll-like. She had noticed the sigh when she spoke about expectations "I see you feel the weight of these things too." she said watching his hand going to his grimoire before turning gracefully and poking his forehead. "Your magic doesn't define you nor does the number of leaves that grimoire has. You define yourself and the sooner you recognise that the better." she said lowering her finger. [break][break] "You have troubles with your father?" she would ask before her eyes going wide and covering her mouth with both hands "Sorry. I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have asked something so personal." she said her tone showing she was truly distraught that she had done something she considered so taboo, she had just met him and she was asking him such things. She felt awful. After a moment she was glad he brought up the maid "I believe Alyssa Lilygate gave her sanctuary at her family estate which has now become an orphanage, she has been given the best care that money can buy." she said quietly. The Lilygate were known as philanthropists who had stepped up when both Raque and Kikka without a second thought and even got other nobles to do the same at least for a time. [break][break] She looked at him for a moment after she spoke of her captain exam and took a step back "Are you alright Jevi?" she would ask, she didn't believe that she had done anything abnormal. She was told to change the outcome of the war and she had done just that with less death on both sides. "Oh, that's right you know that my squad is filled with prodigies but you don't know what I specialize in. Healing, politics and tactics." she seemed embarrassed talking about such things but she guessed it would be fine this time given the conversation. "You might not be one of the youngest magic knights but neither are you the oldest to start their career within the magic knights. I met someone who started their career at age fifty-two." she said remembering Magnus. [break][break] "Stop..." she said once again elongating her index finger but this time poking his nose. "Just like this..." she said taking her other hand and taking his own placing it on his grimoire "Doesn't define you, neither does any other magic knight. Stop worrying about those who have been magic knights longer than you and concentrate on you and your own deeds." she said with a soft smile bringing her hands back "My brother Ozma became a magic knight before me but he is still low in the ranks, my brother Jirou became a magic knight recently, both had far more freedoms than I did and yet I'm a captain because I didn't worry about them only on my tasks and how to get stronger to support the kingdom." she explained hoping he would stop worrying about those that came before him and walk his own path that others can look towards. [break][break] "I think you are holding yourself back because you want to prove someone else wrong, you will only end up hurting yourself and those around you with those thoughts." it wasn't a leap given how the conversation had gone up until this point. "Do you know there's a reason why Hania, myself and a few others never introduce ourselves with our last names." she said looking up to the sky. "The reason for it is that we don't want to ride on the coattails of our families, we want to create our own names with our own actions and that's likely how you should start looking at it too." she said with a warm smile "So, are you going to concern yourself with the desires and expectations placed upon you in the past or are you going to leave them in the past and create your own path into the future?" she would ask him. [break][break] She smiled as the conversation turned back to the matter at hand and looked at the map once more. "I agree, more so since I'm the one that put those markers with the dates on that map." she said showing she liked to be prepared as even things like this could give critical information. "As much as I would like to say we could forsake speaking to the locals we need to because this only gives us the locations of the att-" she was cut off as she looked around "This area looks desolate." she said pointing to the empty pens, she moved towards a door and knocked but she heard nothing, she moved to peak in the window but there was nothing but darkness. "There's no one here." she said confused moving to another nearby building on the door there seemed to be a letter. [break][break]
To whoever finds this,[break] Those of us who live in this part have decided that due to the threat, we would move our livestock to another area. We've tried fences, traps, pits, staying awake all night, and nets but nothing worked; if this thing kept attacking our livestock we would be destitute within weeks. We have families to provide for and fear for theirs and our safety. Please don't think poorly of us but we needed to do what was best for us and ours. I swear it looked like a large bird with grey feathers, but heather said it was a large snarling beast with black fur, Timothy said it looked like an albino bear while Peter says it was more like a minotaur, I'm sorry if this isn't helpful but it's the best we can do. [break][break] After reading it the floral mage headed back to Jevi and handed him the note "It looks rushed, I can't say I blame them but let's put an end to this quickly so that they might be able to come home and feel safe." with that she began to walk north in the hopes to find out who or what was the cause of this situation.

If there was one single word to describe Jevi as a person it would be honest, so even when Hinota gave him a way out of potentially embarrassing himself due to his blush he didn’t take it like she had expected him to. Instead, he told her the truth on how her elegance had taken him aback. It wasn’t even her beauty that had done so, but rather the way she carried herself that caused him to feel flustered. He was glad to hear she admired his honesty, and smiled at how he could have handled it instead as he shook his head slightly. “I’d rather be honest, especially when we’ll be working together. Besides, it wasn’t awkward for me. Feelings are natural, so why hide them?” He shrugged a bit, though he knew this outlook was not what nobles subscribed to. That’s why he believed there was so much frustration between them at times, because no one could be honest and everyone had to play a game in order to get what they wanted. Jevi wanted no part of that, which was part of the reason he left his home and family behind.
[break][break]
The elf also explained how he wasn’t used to women like Hinota. Her refined elegance was a far cry from the women he usually spent time with like Synthia, who was far more direct and didn’t seem to have a filter. The question one whether or not he was a noble was therefore not a strange one, but he answered with a smile and a calm voice. “I am, though I’m aware I do not fit in with most of them. Growing up I tried to distance myself as much as I could and eventually I left home to wander the kingdom. The only woman I’ve been around who is as lady-like as you would be my own mother.” It was clear in his tone of voice that upon the mention of his mother it grew warmer, as he loved the woman and being away from her was his only regret when it came to his decision of leaving his family behind to pursue what he wanted in life rather than what his father had planned for him. To hear her call him a gentleman and thank him for the compliment made him smile. “You’re welcome, and I’m glad you think of me that way.”
[break][break]
However she was right that actions such as these had consequences, and that he would have to be more mindful when around nobles in general. As much as he disliked it, he would have to play the game at times. She also mentioned that he could have refused her request, and she wouldn’t have thought any less of him for it. She had done it herself in the past with Zaven, and she knew for a fact that Hania would do the same for as he’d refuse to call her anything but captain. While that could be seen as hypocritical considering he did not like his title, Jevi could still somewhat understand. “Well, I’m happy to call you by your name, Hinota.” Jevi replied in the same kind tone as her, feeling himself relax more and more around the woman who had initially taken him aback.

It was apparent that Jevi would be learning a lot today about how to interact with nobles when Hinota explained to him that chuckling could be seen as an offense that could result in dire consequences if it offended the wrong person. It surprised him a bit to hear how far some nobles were willing to go, but he took her advice and warning to heart. It was just another part of the game he would be expected to play along with in certain circles, and now that he was a magic knight he’d probably end up frequenting said circles more often. She hid her mouth behind her sleeve again as she chuckled and commented on him missing that class in some kind of form. Jevi looked to the side and rubbed the back of his head, a more nervous chuckle escaping him. “Well~…you might be right about that.” He wasn’t going to deny that fact, but he understood there were eyes on him wherever he went. “I’m aware, but I won’t let that stop me from doing the things I want to do.” There was a clear determination in his voice as he spoke. He didn’t want to live according to the rules made by someone else if that meant having to change who he was.

Their talk about Hania had been enlightening to say the least, and Jevi had learned a lot about his vice-captain and his ways. Hearing he had perfect memory did not surprise Jevi either as he nodded in acknowledgement of Hinota’s warning. “I will be careful. I’d hate to make myself look like a fool in front of him.” They were squad members after all, and he didn’t want to bring shame to the Crimson Lions. He had made his choice of squad very deliberately and this is where he wanted to be and stay. Hinota was right when she mentioned it was hard to get a read on Hania sometimes, but that wasn’t too big of a problem. All Jevi needed to know was that Hania cared deep down about the kingdom, his squad and his family. What more did he really need to know to understand Hania was a good person? “I will not go out of my way to bug him either.” The last thing he wanted was to be considered a nuisance.
[break][break]
When it came to Hania caring about what other people thought of him it was clear that he didn’t mind what they believed; however, that didn’t include his family as he held that name in high regards and didn’t want people to think badly of them. That put Hania in a difficult position between his personal wants and his family’s needs. A tale quite reminiscent for Jevi himself, and as they continued talking he’d made that apparent as he rested his hand on his grimoire and mentioned he was familiar with such struggles. As Hinota noticed and commented on it, Jevi let out a sigh and nodded, but before he could answer her properly she had gracefully moved in front of him. The smaller girl had reached up her hand and poked his forehead as she told him that his magic did not define him, nor did the amount of leaves on his grimoire. While that sounded simple in theory, in practice it wasn’t so easy. Still, it was nice to hear those words from Hinota, and so he returned her gesture with a smile. “Thank you. I’ll keep it mind.” His blue eyes lingered a bit on her emerald orbs before he cleared his throat with a hand in front of his mouth and the two continued their walk.

As they discussed the incident with the former partner of Lady Amaya, Jevi let slip that he couldn’t fathom ever taking that step with his own father. The comment seemed to surprise Hinota, as she gasped and covered her mouth with both hands and began to apologize for having asked something so personal. “Hey, hey, it’s okay-“ He moved his hands up and gently clasped both of hers in between his own, lowering them before letting them go again with a soft smile on his face. “You couldn’t have known, and I don’t mind talking about it. There’s no need to apologize.” Hopefully he had soothed her worries with that, and thankfully their conversation would continue as Hinota mentioned the maid had been taken care of to her knowledge. Jevi sighed softly in relief hearing this information. “That’s good.” The woman deserved nothing less in his opinion.

On their way to their first stop, Jevi couldn’t help but ask Hinota about her recent promotion to captain, and she seemed to be more than alright with sharing her story on how it happened. To hear that she had changed the outcome of such a large scale war was nothing short of impressive, and Jevi couldn’t stop himself from looking at her with awe present in his eyes. Hinota herself didn’t seem to truly grasp how amazing it was what she had done, though most likely she was merely being humble as she probably brought up to be. She mentioned how she was specialized in healing, politics and tactics to which Jevi nodded. “That makes sense. I’m glad you were able to take a fitting test.” It wouldn’t be fair to test a passivist like Hinota in combat when she clearly had all the makings of a true leader and captain.
[break][break]
Though as much as Jevi was genuinely interested in her story, a part of him also wanted to hear about it for his own sake to help him decide what he was going to do in the future. Hinota was great at reading people, which she demonstrated once again by pointing out that he was asking this more so for himself than to hear of her own experiences. It was true, and Jevi shared his feelings with her on the matter of promotions and aiming higher as it was something he didn’t believe was in the cards for him right now. He had convinced himself he was okay with that, but was he really? Hinota assured him that he was far from too old to actually make something of himself. All it took was hard work and dedication, as she even knew a magic knight who started at the age of fifty-two.

While Jevi spiraled a bit more into his thoughts, the princess told him to stop and once again she poked him. Though this time she poked his nose, and this time it did cause him to slightly blush once more. This only got more apparent when she guided his hand so gently to his grimoire and explained that just like how his magic and grimoire did not define him, nor did the other magic knights around him. According to her, he just had to focus on himself and his deeds, and she used her family to illustrate that point further. She had become a captain while her brother was still a lower ranked magic knight. All because she didn’t worry about them and their opinions, but kept her focus on herself and how to get stronger in order to support the kingdom. “I know you’re right, but-“ He frowned a bit and looked down, unable to keep looking her into her eyes. Getting higher up would only play into his father’s hands, wouldn’t it?
[break][break]
To hear her say he was holding himself back in order to prove someone wrong shocked him to say the least, his eyes widening some as he looked back at her. “How…?” How could she have gathered all of that from their simple interaction? No, it wasn’t all that weird. She had already learned he had left his family, that he wasn’t enjoying the lifestyle of nobles and that he had issues with his father. This was only a logical conclusion. Still, the words tugged at his heart, especially hearing that it would end up hurting him and those around him. He quietly listened to her as she explained why Hania, herself and some others never introduced themselves with their last name. It was because they didn’t want to ride on the coattails of their families, and wanted to be seen for who they were and recognized for what they had accomplished. That is exactly what Jevi wanted too. To be seen for who he was, not for his status or his magic and grimoire. “I…will try to leave them in the past, and carve my own future.” He returned her smile, feeling like a weight was lifted off his shoulders from the short conversation alone.

Leaving all the personal issues behind for the moment, Jevi had studied the map quite a bit only to conclude that the attacks weren’t all that widespread. They were concentrated into a smaller area, and he pointed this out to Hinota to get her thoughts on the matter. She confirmed his suspicions, and added that she had made the map. While she thought they could potentially forgo the talk with the farmers, she figured they might as well now that they were already here. The area they entered though, looked quite desolate. There was no cattle, no lights in the farm. Nothing. However, while there was no one there, Hinota had found a letter while Jevi kept an eye on their surroundings as he felt a bit on edge given how abandoned the place was. His attention immediately went back to the letter as Hinota showed it to him though. “So either we’re dealing with multiple creatures, or a chimera-like creature…” That was the only conclusion Jevi could take from the descriptions given, but he nodded as Hinota urged them to move along and get this over with. “Right, the sooner we solve this, the better.”
