Valo never would have thought he would be back in Raque so soon. He was just here on a mission with Fell right before he got his promotion to a higher rank. While that was a successful mission it did have it's missteps. That one being Valo absolutely hated the sight and smell of fish, it was quite a weird a reaction he would never know if he was allergic to the repulsive creatures cause he never got close to trying one. Just catching the wiff of one was enough to make him gag. But what his last trip here proved was that if he focused enough on the task, he could to a certain extent ignore his "allergic" reaction. Despite this thought he still cured the very thought of being here at all, after his last trip he planned on never returning to Raque again. If it wasn't for Artemis suggesting he take a look at what was going on here, he probably wouldn't have done it. Though he wouldn't show it much, Valo valued Artemis's advice and input a lot. She she had just become a vice captain of his squad his respect for her only grew. And if she said looking into some fishing competition for anything strange, Valo would follow her judgement. So with that being said here he was again.
But this time he had time to prepare a little unlike the first time. Now he couldn't do much to completely block the odor but he could still try. He had added more of his own personal adjustments to his green mantis cloak. It was longer reaching down to his calves, the collar on it tall enough to reach his nose. Using the color as the first shield of sorts from the smell of numerous fish. On top of that he had a new silver colored scarf that wrapped around the collar shielding his nose even more. What he had underneath wouldn't matter much since it was going to be covered by his cloak, but Valo always dressed mostly to impress himself. He had a white button shirt matched with some light brown pants. His boots a darker shade of brown that reached a few inches below the knee. For accessories his new lantern that his mother gave to him, when he back to visit hung on his right side on the lower part of his back. With it being gold in color he matched it with some gold jewelry that he bought himself as an award for his promotion. All in all Valo had a complete well thought out outfit for this occasion, he didn't really know what to expect so he dressed for it.
Speaking of expectations many thoughts swirled in Valo's mind as he mad his way through Raque, towards the docks he was told this was a fishing competition of some sort. Not only did he have to smell fish and get near one, he had to actually catch one. The thought of it alone made Valo roll his eyes in disgust. But apparently winning this competition was a big deal for all of Clover looked forward to it. All this commotion over some fish, Valo would never understand it. But Valo was here for a more important matter he was tasked with getting one of the two captains Verona De la Rouge or Smack Caballero to him onboard one of their ships. He had to get close to one of them it didn't matter who, but each one had years of experience on sea and just in general. There was a lot to learn from either one of them, having one as an ally in the future could prove to be essential to your overall growth as a magic knight. At least thats how Artemis phrased it and Valo no matter what was constantly looking to improve himself for the better, even he had to deal with his worst enemy...fish.
He approved one of the sign up tables, with a confident but obviously nervous look on his face. He wasn't to sure on how he would deal with being on water, water in itself wasn't a big deal for him. But he's never been on a boat before, especially to sail so this was going to be an entirely new experience. He took one look at the ships being held at the harbor and his eyes widened a little, the ships were not only pretty big but just visually impressive as well. "Hey kid you here to sign up for the competition or not? Other people waiting behind ya?" the table lady snapped Valo back to reality.
"Yeah I'm here to sign up. Names Valo...Valo Stark." he answered her with a tad of hesitation in his voice.
Augustus was not one to stop and stare, though he knew that being in Raque was something that was expected of him. How could it not? He was slated to be its next Priest after all. At least, one of its Priest. He had been told that there were usually two who took the position for each town or city, and there were two different church’s in some, while other shared one church. Augustus supposed there was a reason why there were usually two assigned Priest for each of the towns or cities. He knew that the Church of Clover not only acted as a place of worship, and of cleansing, but it also ran the orphanages of each of those respective towns and cities. This made the work load quite a bit for just one Priest or Priestess. Instead, having two made sure that there was balance, and that the Priest and Priestess were never burnt out because of how hard they had to work to maintain not only the place of worship, but also to be the pseudo parents of the orphans. It was not an easy life, nor was it one that was chosen without much thought. Just like those who joined the Magic Knights squads, he knew that there was a commitment once you decide to enter the Church of Clover as one its members, serving not only the Four Deities, but also the Clover Kingdom as a whole. Power and prestige came with a price, and Augustus knew that it was paid with blood, sweat, and tears, rarely one without the others. [break][break]
“Let’s see here,” Augustus would hum to himself as he made his way around the harbour area of the town itself. He knew little about fishing, though he had been taught the basics when he had been young. A nobleman should know all of the sports, after all, and fishing was a sport for those who loved being in the water. Well, a sport that usually had people arguing who had caught the larger fish. At the end of the day, Augustus preferred fencing, instead of the more relaxed sports like fishing. Though, from what he had gathered, it seems that he would need to soon be more acquainted with fishing. If the news of his own sister having a relationship with the current Head of the Somerset Family was true, then he knew that he would be spending more time learning and interacting with that specific family later down the road. Of course, Augustus knew that his sister was not one to fool around. She was the serious one, prideful in her actions, and very much has the air of the Ravencrest around her. Lydia was not one to dilly dally with another woman without rhyme nor reason. If she chose this Artemis Somerset, then she must be serious about it. Unlike Augustus, of course, who sometimes had dalliances with women around the Royal Court. He supposed they were fraternal twins for a reason, even their lifestyle was vastly different from each other.[break][break]
From what Augustus can gather from the bits and pieces of whispers he could hear, it was some sort of competition. For what, he did not know. But, a competition was a competition, and Augustus was very much engaged when it came to those kinds of things. It was the Ravencrest blood in him, and anything that was some sort of a competition, he knew he needed to give his try. And so, purposefully, Augustus made his way towards the front of the crowd, hoping to see what this whole thing was about. A competition was one thing, but he knew he needed more information. After all, it was never good to go in blind. Since it was held at the docks, Augustus knew that it might be something to do with sailing. Could it be some sort of race? A sailing race would be quite an exhilarating experience, and Augustus was literally clueless about the specific sport. He had been introduced to it by some of the noble families living in Raque when he had been young, when he had come for a customary visit, but he had never taken to it. The small boats were very unstable, and he found himself losing balance for the most part. Plus, there were too many things he needed to remember. Ropes, and what not, as well as making sure to keep to the winds, or something of the sort. [break][break]
As he got to the front of the crowd, Augustus found himself sighing. “Fishing. Of all things, hey?” He would curse his earlier thoughts about fishing in general. Though, he was sure that this was a different type of fishing. When he had been introduced to it, the fishing had been done in a lake, where the fishes were wont to come out and be caught, so it had taken a few hours just to catch one for a beginner like him. Maybe fishing in the open sea was easier? [break][break]
He was just about to sign himself up, before finding himself staring at a man whose voice was very familiar.[break][break]
“Hey! It’s the Green Mantis Magic Knight!” Augustus would call out, giving the man a wave as he came closer, “It seems we cross paths again! I did not know you were a master fisher. Care to give me some tips?” He would chuckle, before waiting for the man to respond. At least there was one friendly face here, though he never got attitude since he carried the Sigil of the Church of Clover on him at all times. He might look like a noble, but he was also a member of the Church, which made him very important in the eyes of the faithful, which was a lot of the citizens within the Clover Kingdom.

"So Valo Stark is it? That surname sounds a bit familiar." the table said looking up at Valo with a peculiar look in her eyes. "Aahh yeah don't think about it to much." Valo replied quickly taking a few steps away, allowing the person behind him to sign up. That was one of the few times Valo ever said his last name out loud. He usually always avoided it knowing it would cause for some awkward situations. House Stark was technically a noble house an old one at that, but it was name that Valo didn't embrace nor felt the need to mention it at all. He rubbed his eyes in annoyance at himself just for speaking it out loud. But his thoughts were interrupted by a familiar voice greeting him.
It was the blondie Augustus Ravencraft, to be honest Valo didn't plan on seeing this guy again. Their last mission together ended pretty well the blonde noble grew on him a bit. He came off a bit to regal for Valo's personal taste, but the guy was fighter and Valo could respect that. This time his greeting was more formal than before. Given this place and what was going on, Augustus was the last person he bet on being here. It just didn't seem like his kind of function but Valo guessed one should judge a book by it's cover. "Well if it isn't blondie!" Valo said in return to greet him. But perhaps Valo could make use of someone like Augustus. He was from a noble family and from what he noticed pretty well educated, it looked like he didn't want for much. With that being said it was possible Augustus was already well taught in most of this fishing and sailing stuff.
"Me? A master fisher no. Not by any means. But..." Valo started to say while a slick grin started to appear on his face. "I bet yooouuu have some experience with this sort of stuff. I mean you would have to right? Your'e like a noble don't your parents take you guys fishing all of clover as like birthday gift or something?" Valo started to Joke with Augustus he would laugh but he did leave it open just in case Augustus did have some experience.
"But anyway look a those ships man! I'm no sailor but owning a ship wouldn't be to bad you know." Valor stated while turning and gesturing to two ships in particular, both were large and looked formidable. One was slightly wider then the other though, do to it having more visible cannons for warfare and shields placed on the side for defensive tactics. It looked like a true warship that has been through plenty of battles. The other ship was leaner and more slick, while not having the amount of cannons and shields as the other ship. It had such a sleek design that was built for speed, and maneuverability it was clear nothing would catch the ship in open sea.
Now if Valo was looking forward to one thing joining this competition, it was winning. Competing was just in his veins, he lived to win and beat others. Of course the sake of winning was more than enough for him, but there was an extra factor in it for him. Money. Getting into tons of fights back home, he not only fought to win but he fought for money. Valo's nature was to be greedy, win and obtain riches for himself. Becoming a magic knight sort of subdued this fact just a little bit, he joined to become one of the best magic knights while getting gold for it. To him it was a win win scenario. But now in more rare moments this side of Valo would start to show face.
He would wait for Augustus to finishing signing up, and would attempt to place his arm over his shoulder. "You know though it really doesn't matter how much experience we have. I bet if we can work together and catch the biggest fish or whatever, we could win. And you like winning right? Good so do I!" Valo said not really waiting for Augustus to answer, he lead him to the two ships he was looking at pointing at both of them with his index and pinky fingers. The white haired wizard having the same ol wicked grin on his face. "I can also bet that one of these two ships is the key to such victory."
Aboard the the more heavier ship equipped with massive cannons and shields, was an older more experienced man it looked like he had seen a fair amount of battles in his life time. He had a crimson lion cloak on that had tears and rips throughout further showing his experience in battle. He was very tall and pale with sandy blonde hair and some steaks go grey in it. What stood out though was his a scar on his right cheek. His crew also looked battle hardened and well put together, they worked like a well oiled machine. This ship and crew looked more official and orderly.
Aboard the other ship was a beautiful but highly dangerous looking woman. Tall as well but more lithe then the other captain. One eye was visible that had an emerald shade of green, the other eye covered by an eye patch. Her skin was a deep caramel and noticeable scars throughout, showing her experience on battle as well. Her red hair reached to lower back tied in a pony tail. Her crew was large and worked really well, but operated a bit more freely not needing direct orders from its captain. This ship and crew looked more free and adventurous.
Valo turned his head back and forth between the two, they both had their pros and cons and it wasn't easy making a decision. But he was leaning towards joining the red headed women's crew it just seemed more like his kind of style. That kind of freedom is what Valo admired the most. But he placed his hands on his hips and spoke to Augustus. "Welp blondie I'll let you make the call between the two. But the red head on that ship looks kind of fun not gonna lie. But from the looks of these two there is no wrong answer." He let Augusuts make the final choice, he didn't really know him that well. But he did put together that he was a pretty smart guy, he was a noble he had to be smart given the background. On their last mission together they came up with that plan together, but it was mostly Augustus that really mapped it out. Plus the blonde swordsman had to have some viable information on these ships that Valo wouldn't know, given that house Ravencrest was pretty large and resourceful as a house. It was just a hunch but Valo was willing to bet on him and his judgment.
Augustus would smirk as he was called blondie. It was not the first time he was called such, nor would it be the last time he would be called just that. To be honest, it was something that the guards at the Royal Capital had taken to calling him behind him whenever he visited court. Though they thought that Augustus did not hear, whispers were always reverberated throughout the chamber and its halls. Gossip is something that never went unnoticed by those who took to the Royal Court, and even Augustus had his fair share of people who reported to him whenever some juicy gossip had been passed throughout the halls of the Royal Palace. Of course, there were worse nicknames that had been passed around throughout the Royal Capital when it came to Augustus Ravencrest, though he was not one to act on them. He enjoyed his notoriety in some shape and form, while entertaining the more ludicrous gossip that was passed around.[break][break] “Blondie, hey?” the man would laugh, “If I am Blondie, as you like to call me, then you would be Snow White!” Augustus gave another chuckle, wiping a stray tear that graced his eye laughing at his own quip. Valo Stark’s hair was definitely something akin to snow, with its white colour almost resembling something that an older gentleman would be sporting. Of course, he would not make the quip about him looking old, though it did cross his mind. However, he thought that calling the man Snow White would be funnier, and would hit the point across. [break][break]
He then shook his head, “Sorry to disappoint, Snow White, but I am not much of a fisher myself.” Funny enough, he had just been thinking about it. Of course, he had the experience. He knew the basics, and he had done it before at a lake. But that was a few years ago. Technique was something that was honed, and Augustus had lost all of the knowledge base he used to have about fishing. Even then, he learned it as a sport. Augustus was sure that fishing here in the open sea was something much much different, and he could only fathom to think of how he should approach it. However, he was not one to back down when there was a challenge. Augustus would nod to himself, “I am more of a hunting guy myself, deer and boar are my sport.” He would then look towards the open sea, trying to figure out a plan, and trying to grasp the fleeting memories on the basics of fishing. “Though, I can say that I know the basics at least. I am unsure how that would help us, honestly.” He would sigh, though he kept his hopes up. “A challenge is a challenge, and I am known to never give up without as much as a modicum of a fight.” Augustus would grin now.[break][break]
He would then take in the two ships. Augustus knew of them by name alone. Of course, as part of the Royal Court, he had been privy to some of the information concerning the open seas around the Clover Kingdom. While the lower noble families around Raque and Hapshass had control over the seas, they still needed to fill in reports once in a while. The Royal Capital needed to be aware of any dealings that might be of use, or of danger, to the Clover Kingdom after all. Ships that were independent were also noted, especially those who had made a name for themselves outside of being a part of a noble family’s fleet. The Red Solaria, captained by “The Fury of the Depths” herself, Verona de la Rouge, was one of the fastest ships within the Clover Kingdom’s seas. It was rumoured that it was impossible to catch by regular ships, and only a few could keep up. And then the other one beside it is somewhat of a rival of The Red Solaria. The Revenge of King Anton was captained by the Crimson Lion Magic Knight, Smack Caballero. His ship was, instead of fast, a bulldozer in the sea. It had fire power unequalled for the most part, and Augustus was sure that there were little other naval ships that could compete against the man’s own. [break][break]
“Team work would be fine, I think we would do better working together anyway,” Augustus agreed now, before taking another look at both ships. “One of the things that we need to consider is that both ships have their own strengths and weaknesses. From what I was told, The Red Solaria is fast, yet it lacks the fire power when it comes to fighting sea based mana beasts or pirates. This is where The Revenge of King Anton comes in. It is a slow ship, but it packs a lot of punch.” He would pause for a moment, “The Red Solaria is my pick.” Augustus would nod now, before taking the first few steps towards the ship he had chosen for the two of them. [break][break]
“Augustus Ravencrest and Valo Stark, at your service.” Augustus would bow towards the captain, Verona de la Rouge. He would then let Valo continue the introductions, while he only gave the woman his trademark smile.

Valo's grin turned into a smile when Augustus agreed to work together, that would at least make everything easier. Considering Valo's sort of drastic condition when it comes to fish any help he could get would work for him. And as he assumed of course Augustus did some fishing before, he was a noble to Valo it would have been more weird if he didn't do any sailing or fishing. "Pssshhh don't sweat it Blondie. You knowing the basics could probably come in handy. Plus we keep that fire in us it's a easy win." Valo said in response to Augustus's comments on past fishing experiences, and not giving up.
Like Valo said he let Augustus make that final choice on which ship they should probably choose. While Valo had no info on any of these ships, he assumed Augustus would and again he assumed pretty well. He wouldn't lie he was feeling kind of good about himself, knowing he made a pretty good decision by partnering with Augustus. The blonde swordsman had some pretty good info on both ships and how they operated. The red headed women who captain of the Red Solaria was built for speed, while the other was built for power. Upon hearing that he started to think the ship called Revenge of King Anton would be a good choice, a ship built for power seemed really good. But the orderly function of that crew just rubbed Valo the wrong way. In the end he agreed with Augustus's choice to choose the Red Solaria, you can't go wrong with speed and mobility. "I agree with your choice. No complaints!" Valo said happily patting Augustus's back, while making his way up on the Red Solaria.
When they made their way up to introduce themselves Augustus was the first to speak naming them, and adding a bow towards the captain. The captain herself was very much what Valo thought when he spotted her from afar. Tall and beautiful Valo was mostly stuck admiring her beauty, her long red hair gently swayed along with the wind as she stood there. While Valo didn't bow like Augustus did he stood perfectly still struggling to catch his words as he tried to speak. He quickly shook his head trying to get his thoughts together. But as soon as he was going to finally say something the captain began to speak. "It doesn't matter who you two are, as long as the competition is won! But most importantly we beat that other ship! Smack Caballero! My name is Verona de la Rouge! and we here don't like to lose especially to Caballero!" she said loud and proudly.
Valo seeing this smirked growing more infatuated with Verona, she was strong, beautiful and a determined leader. How could you not fall for her thought Valo. "Aaahhh yes. I'll make sure to personally do my best, for you." Valo said trying to give Verona a seductive smirk. But as he spoke the scent of the sea, hit his nose he instantly started to make a disgusted face. But what was bothering him the most wasn't the actually smell of water, but what was in it.
"Crew we set sail. Now!" Verona shouted as the boat started to take off. One the crew mates walked past Valo and Augustus with a large bucket of fish to eat. Valo smelling this quickly ran to one of the sides of the ship, this whole time he was doing his best to ignore it. But now he couldn't, the smell of fish had grown a bit overwhelming as he puked just over the edge of the ship into the water. Some of the crew members to notice to this and started to laugh. "Hahahhahaha looks like we got a greenhorn boys!" one of them would shout in jest.
Valo would attempt to recover though, his face flushed but he wasn't entirely embarrassed. "Shut up! Before I beat the---fu--" he tried to say before turning over and puking again.
"It doesn't matter who you two are, as long as the competition is won! But most importantly we beat that other ship! Smack Caballero! My name is Verona de la Rouge! and we here don't like to lose especially to Caballero!"[break][break]
Augustus nodded at the Captain, Verona de la Rouge. It seems that there was some competition, not only for the fish, but also on a more personal nature. He was not surprised. Smack Caballero was a Magic Knight that was still affiliated with the Crimson Lions. Verona Dde la Rouge was someone who did not seem to like being tied down, and was seen as some sort of maverick and a wild card by a lot of the other seafarers and the Clover Kingdom as a whole. This meant that while business boomed for the female captain, it was still constantly under scrutiny for not wanting to affiliate with the Clover Kingdom. Other businesses would more than likely choose Smack Caballero because of how trustworthy the man can seem since he was flying under the banner of the Clover Kingdom, and wore the Crimson Lions Magic Knight Mantle. Of course, there were still quite a number of jobs for Verona de la Rouge and the Red Solaria, since it was considered as one of the fastest ship in the Clover seas. From what Augustus had heard, there were other seafaring noble families that were trying to study the ship’s design in the hopes of copying and recreating it. Families from both Hapshass and Raque were on the move, though none had been successful. If they had been successful, then Augustus would have heard of it through her information channels. But, he was sure that one day the naval noble families will crack it. For now, the Red Solaria still held the titular fastest ship.[break][break]
And then the ship started setting sail. Augustus found himself enjoying the light breeze, laced with sea salt, and refreshing only in small amounts. The wind can be harsh on the skin, especially since it dries up one’s skin. He would turn to the side, and notice that his companion, Valo Stark, seemed to be turning green. In quick succession, the man turned towards the side of the ship, and gave out a mighty hurl. Augustus could almost laugh, though he felt bad for the man. Not everyone can stand the sea. The ship rocking back and forth was probably not helping at all, while the smell of the open sea can be nauseating to a lot of people. There was also the fact that fresh fish, just caught from what it looked like, was being passed around the upper deck by the crew members. The smell affected more than a handful of people, and Augustus only held his own because he had previously fished. It was a smell that one can only get used to, there was no loving it at first smell. [break][break]
“Hey, Valo, you okay there?” Augustus would move towards the man, who seemed to have been the object of the crew’s amusement. Getting seasick was something of an initiation process for new sailors, and while Augustus had not been affected because of his previous experience being on a boat, his companion did not seem to have had the same experiences. “First time on a boat?” He would ask, though he somehow already knew the answer to this. “Or maybe the fishes?” Augustus continued, glancing at the object of the stench. His nose would scrunch, but he would be more or less unaffected.[break][break]
Then the captain of the ship, Verona de la Rouge, would yell from the helm of the ship.[break][break] “Fishing hotspot!”[break][break]
She would point towards a cluster of sea gulls that seemed to dip in and out of the water. From what Augustus can tell, these birds were great tells for fishing spots, since they usually signal the abundance of fish, or even better, a school of fish that were hanging around on top of the waves. They would slowly approach the hotspot, and Augustus would lean out to take a look. Sure enough, there was a cluster of fishes just breaking the surface of the water. He could see small ones on top, while the larger silhouettes were swimming just lower. He knew that he would need to cast his line with enough force to break the water’s surface and get through to the larger ones. That was the competition, after all.[break][break]
“Valo, you ready?” He would ask as he busied himself with looking for a fishing rod. It was time to get this fishing contest started.

Valo tried his best to adjust himself to this new scenario he found himself in, his first time on a boat his first time going fishing and he was instantly sick of it. It had just begun and he was already done and wanted off. The rancid smell of fish and sea water were deep on his nostrils and his mind he just couldn't get used to it. He remembered all those times his mother would try and get him to eat some cooked fish, and he push the plate far far away. He wouldn't even want to try it just because of the smell. It just never agreed with him or his stomach. As he was trying to get himself together the other crew mates continued to poke fun at the young wizard, slowly adding to his overall frustrations. While he couldn't really make them shut their mouths just yet, he would remember it for the future.
He slowly removed himself from the sides of the ship, still hunched over with his hands on his knees to keep him up. His face flustered with not only embarrassment but sickness too. Augustus made his way over to speak with Valo asking if he was okay. Valo would attempt to speak a few times but struggled to get his words out. The instant feeling of puking was gone for now, but total uneasiness and queasiness was very much still there. "I-I-I...I'm o....k." he managed to finally get out. "First time on a boat, and I .... I think i'm allergic to....fish." Valo also managed to squeeze out in his response to Augustus. "But don't worry bout me Blondie. I'm doing just fine."
"Oi boys the greenhorn says he's ok! Sure don't look like it though do it?!" one of the crew mates yelled and asked out loud.
"Nope Charlie it don't look it! Not at all! Little magic knight boys, shouldn't be on ships like this anyways. Just gonna get in the way. The boy can barely stand up as it is!" a crew mate responded laughing at Valo. The one named Charlie grinned at the comment, it was clear he was having fun messing with Valo and testing him. This kind of behavior wasn't new especially on a ship, if you couldn't hold your own weight it would get pointed out quickly. The crew would also make sure you know you ain't doing your part. If you were seen as weak, it would be quickly pointed out without remorse.
Verona de la Rouge quickly caught everyones attention by yelling of an upcoming hotspot. Valo was able to lift his head up, he wanted to compete and didn't want to get left behind. Plus he had to make sure they win this competition, failure to him was not an option. Not for something like this. A fishing competition. Valo managed to stand up straight nodding at Augustus to confirm he was as ready as he was going to be. But his head quickly turned towards Charlie as Augustus looked around for some fishing rods. He grabbed the man by the collars of his shirt. "Get me some damn fishing rods!" Valo would demand right in Charlies face and let him go. Charlie simply grinned looking Valo square in the eye. "Looks like you may have some gut in ya yet." he said making his way over to a nearby chest, kicking it open revealing a number of fishing rods. Valo quickly grabbed two and tossed one over to Augustus. "Aye blondie got ya one." he shouted over to him.
With Valo being on edge from previous events, he was solely focused on proving himself now. He was extremely determined, a light of flame in his eyes. The smell of fish still made him queasy and he most likely bond to throw up again at any second, but he going to get this done no matter what. He took a good look at his fishing rod for a few moments and as determined as he was, he realized he had no idea how to use this thing. He looked up and saw the other crew mates swinging their rods forward the lines hitting the base of the water just below a cluster of see gulls. Valo attempting to imitate this just cocked his right arm back and was going to swing forward. But his arm was stopped by Charlies hand. "Oi Greenhorn. Let me at least show ya how to use a fishing rod so ya don't embarrass yourself some more." he said to Valo, with no malice or ill intent in his voice.
Valo looked at him a few seconds, weighing the options in his head before he finally agreed. Charlie began to show Valo how to actually cast out a fish line properly. It took a few times but eventually Valo got his line successfully in the middle of the cluster of fish. "Hahahaha! This fishing crap ain't so-" Valo began to say, before his body started to give the feeling of him having to barf again.
Augustus would take the young man’s word for it, and continue to look for a fishing rod. Maybe taking Valo to this expedition was not a good idea. His supposed allergy to fishes might just turn the whole thing sour for the young man. He was a capable Magic Knight, and his tenacity had shown itself when he had gone on a show off with a large bear outside the Noble Capital. But in a situation where fish was going to be something that was present all over, having an allergy to them would be a detriment. In the end, he expected Valo Stark to pull through. The Magic Knight did not seem to be someone who gave up easy. Of course, he most likely already knew that they were going to be around a lot of fish, since coming on board a boat made sure that fish was the most likely diet that these sailors had. Fish was the easiest source of food for these sailors to have after all. They were all most likely adept at fishing themselves, and the Clover Kingdom’s seas were still overflowing with schools of fishes. There was no fear of having a fish shortage, and so the sailors had nothing to fear in terms of going hungry. The smell was something that one had to get used to, however, and even Augustus had to scrunch his nose up whenever the stench finally got to him. He might be able to stand it, but not at huge quantities for a long time. [break][break] "Aye blondie got ya one."[break][break]
Augustus reached out and grabbed the fishing rod that was passed to him. It was crude, possibly had seen more than a few hands and turnovers. In fact, the fishing rod looked so scratched up that Augustus was sure that it was most likely as old as him. But, of course, he would not complain. It seemed to be sturdy enough, most likely having been cared for diligently by its previous owners. He would turn it around, making sure it had all working pieces, before looking towards a small bucket that had their bait. Worms were the best for fishing in lakes and rivers, but sea fishing was just a little different. Augustus knew that the bait for sea fishing involved other small fishes, though from what he had gathered from just a glance at the small bucket, the crew seemed to have chosen squid as their bait. It was effective enough, and something he had never used, but had heard can be very useful in luring larger fishes. Augustus himself would reach over and grab one piece of the bait, making sure to cover the bucket once more. It was to keep any seagulls away from the bait. Scavengers would often prey on unsuspecting sailors and their food, but fishing bait was something that was like a smoke signal for the seagulls, who would swoop down to grab the whole bucket if they were given the chance. [break][break]
“Alright, let’s do this!” Augustus would get his fishing rod ready, testing the reel before casting it towards the middle of the school of fish. His throw had been semi perfect, just being off by a few centimetres from the middle. He was sure that it would not dampen his chances however. The most important thing was that the bait would sink just low enough to attract the larger of the school fishes, which were usually down low, below the smaller ones that float up to the top. [break][break]
He then heard someone hurl just to his left, and looked towards Valo. “Hey, bud, you sure you are going to be okay?” Augustus would ask, as he felt a tug on his rod. He knew to leave it for a few moments. There was a chance that the tugs were because of the passing fishes either bumping into the bait and hook, or some of them were nibbling on the bait. If he pulled up too fat, he would disturb the whole school which would set them back for longer. Patience was a virtue for these kinds of things. “I can catch us the fish if you’d like. No need to push yourself if you are allergic to them.” He would try to make the young man feel just a little bit better, though he was interrupted by a larger tug on his line.[break][break]
Augustus was immediately back to his own fishing rod. Without warning, Augustus felt as though his arm was going to be ripped from its sockets, though he would make sure to hold onto the fishing rod tightly. “This seems to be a big one!” He would yell, starting to reel the fish in slowly but surely.

As expected Valo hurled once more just over the side of the ship, but oddly enough he didn't let go of his fishing rod. He still clenched it tightly in his right hand as his head was over the ship. He stepped back once he thought he was finished. His face flushed and his eyes darting up in more of an annoyance. "I hate it here. I hate it here so much." he said trying to compose himself once again. He placed both hands on the side of the ship and hunched over just a few seconds. Charlie looked at him a smile on his face but this time no jokes. "Run out of jokes old man?" Valo would ask him waiting for the verbal impact.
Charile simply chuckled and replied. "Hahahaha mmmm no greenhorn no jokes. Unless you giving up on us?" Charlie ended with a question. Valo simply grinned in return, wiping his mouth with his free arm. "Heck no." he replied. He soon got another question from Augustus asking him if he was sure he was going to be okay. "I'm fine! Let's just get this freaking fish already!" Valo shouted back.
It was clear that Valo wasn't really built for the seas at first glance, even more so his first time out in sea proved that even further. He much preferred being on solid ground where his feet could be stable, there was no rocking back and forth. There was no stench of dead fish, no overwhelming smell of sea water. They had only been out for a few and he already missed the land. This life out on the sea just wasn't for him. But that didn't mean Valo couldn't make it his own. In his life so far nothing was for handed out for him. He wasn't good enough to be a noble by his father's standards. Growing up he was never good enough, unless it involved crime and gangs. Some town folk back in Kikka deemed Valo as no good scum. The constant fights, stealing, gang brawls other criminal records. Some people thought Valo wasn't good enough at all. But Valo had one thing determination. Determination he prove everyone wrong, including his father. This was just another barrier he had to break, nothing came easy and he was used to it.
Valo stood up still looking queasy but his focused just like before, he grabbed some more bait and placed it on the hook of his fishing rod. Took a few quick breaths to center himself and just about as he was bout to swing his line again. Augustus would tell him he could catch the fish for them, not wanting Valo to push himself too much. Valo simply shouted back. "Don't count me out Blondie!" not wanting to looked at as someone holding everyone back. But Valo quickly changed his tune when he noticed Augustus had a really strong pull. Valo quickly looked over the boat to Augustus's line, squinting his eyes to make out Augustus's could have hooked on to. He couldn't make out a complete image but, from some quick glances one could tell this fish was really big.
Valo rushed over to Augustus "Blondie pull that thing in!" he shouted. But realizing yelling at the guy wasn't going to help much, it was clear Augustus was struggling trying hard to just keep a decent grip. Valo would attempt to grab on the fishing rod with him, pulling this massive fish in as well. Valo wasn't much of a fisher but he was a pretty strong guy, so with his help he hoped this was enough to pull the fish in.
Augustus held on tight, not letting the fishing rod go as he felt the fish tug against his own grip. The problem was two fold. The fish was strong, that as much was true. Augustus’ strength was nothing to scoff at after all. His physical strength had been equated to a low ranking spell by the people who have been at the receiving end of his punches and kicks. It was something he seemed to have been born with, his body’s way of adjusting to the fact that he did not seem to have any offensive capabilities with his spells. In any case, Augustus’ grip on the fishing tightened even more, and the fish that had been latching onto the hook was doubling its efforts. It was a tug of war, and more than just of strengths, but of wills at this point. Augustus was not willing to let this one go. It was the motherload, it seemed like, and he was not going to lose the chance to win the competition for him and Valo Stark just because the going got hard. He was not born and trained to be someone who gave up, after all. As a Ravencrest, his pride was on the line at this point. He doubted that a larger fish would even be possible if he let this one go. More than likely, if this one got away, it would alert the other larger fishes to stay away from hooks and squid. No, he needed to hold on.[break][break]
Valo Stark seemed to step up at this point. He had heard his comment about not counting him out, and Augustus could only smirk at the young man as he held onto the fishing rod with the same intensity and force as Augustus. He was not sure what the strength level of the young man was, at least without any augmentations using spells, that is. But, two hands would be better than one at this point, since Augustus seemed to be losing ground against this fish. “Hold on tight, Valo. This one is a Fighter!” He would grin, as sweat started to trickle down his forehead, glistening his perfect complexion. He would have no time to wipe it however, as he tugged and pulled. Thinking quickly, Augustus planted his feet on the side of the ship’s deck, using it as something of a lever as it gave him more of an advantage against the pull of the fish. With Valo Stark’s help, he would heave at the fishing rod.[break][break]
One more problem happened.[break][break]
The rod started to creak. That was never a good sign. The wood that made up the fishing rod was giving in, and if they did not finish this ordeal soon, they might find themselves out of a fishing rod, and out of a fish as well. Making a quick decision, Augustus adjusted his grip, holding the rod at two points now. The first was on the intended grip. The second was on the half that was threatening to snap. Augustus nodded at Valo Stark, “Stand back, Valo.” [break][break]
His grimoire glowed with a dark shade, sinister to the naked eye, but truly, there was nothing sinister about his magic element. It was meant to protect, nothing more. [break][break]
“Abyssal Armor!”[break][break]
Immediately, the dark element coated Augustus’ whole body. It contorted to his own physique, giving him an armor that was akin to a Knight’s. It was defensive in nature, and gave him the necessary durability when he fought in a melee fashion, which was what usually happens when he was in combat. The purpose of the spell, in this case, however, was something more than for defense. The spell gave him a boost in physical strength, doubling his current levels, making him one of the strongest physical fighter in his tier. His body technically was a weapon, and this would be the way he would salvage the situation.[break][break]
“Let’s go!”[break][break]
Augustus pulled one last pull, and lo and behold, the fish finally broke water! Augustus himself lost balance, but the fish had been caught off guard that it held no resistance as it landed on the deck of the ship. And as expected, it was a massive one.

Valo had a decently strong grip on the fishing rod, doing his best to pull the fish in along with Augustus. But even with his added hands the task still proved to be a struggle, Valo didn't look like a really strong guy based on his appearance but he took pride in his near supernatural strength. But since him and Augustus was still struggling it only proved the point that this fish was indeed massive. If they could manage to pull this thing it would surely mean victory, so losing here was not an option. Valo's pure focused determination to win kept his weird allergic reactions at bay, at least for now. The smell of sea water and fish was still hitting his nose, but he didn't notice it all that much right because his main concern was reeling that fish in. He took noticed to how Augustus started to drop beads of sweat, Valo couldn't help but chuckle at watch his partner. Not a direct laugh at him, but he never thought he would see Augustus struggle so much he seemed almost to noble for it. "Hahaha Blondie never thought I see you sweat!" Valo said towards him in a joking manner.
But his quick laughs came to an end when the rod started to crack, causing Augustus to change his position with Valo following suit. His right foot planted on the side of the boat to help his overall grip. Valo took a quick look at Augustus that was right by his side, and nodded when he asked Valo to stand back. Valo was no fisherman and if Augustus had an idea to finish this little problem he trusted the noble to do it. "Don't screw up." he said letting go of the fishing rod leaving it to Augustus. He stood watch as the blonde noble activated his grimoire, revealing that dark magic again. It was still just a bit of an odd site to see a guy like Augustus use dark magic, at first glance it almost seemed like it didn't match him but in a odd way it kind of did. Soon Augustus would be in dark like armor, Valo guessed it was used to improve his strength as well giving him the needed power to pull this behemoth of a fish in. He kept pulling and eventually it worked! Augustus may have lost balance a bit but, the massive fish hit the deck of the ship with a loud smack!
Valo's face went from pure smiles and happiness that his partner succeeded, to a quick disgust looking at the behemoth of a fish in the middle of the boat. Now that he no longer had something to directly focus on but the massive fish, he felt his sickness rise back up. He made a quick dash to the side of the boat again throwing up once more at the site of the fish. Charlie had his hands on his hips looking at Verona with a grin on his face. Verona who stood at the ship's helm the whole time keeping watch of the whole situation simply grinned. "That fish will do quite nicely good work boys." she said simply turning the ship around to head back towards the dock.
Charlie walked over to Valo and started to pat him on the back. "Welp greenhorn you did embarrass yourself a heck of a lot today. But you got spunk and some heart, maybe you'll make a good sailor one day." he said with a chuckle. Valo brought his body back in looking at Charlie right in the eye for a few seconds before they both started to bust out in laughter.
"Hahahaha me a sailor! Yeah right!!" Valo said as he busted out laughing. When the laughs ended to looked towards Augustus. "Good job Blondie!" he shouted at him waiting to finally arrive back at Rague, Valo couldn't wait to get back to actual land and be off this ship now that the mission was done. With the fish as big as it was there was no way they lose.
Augustus would sigh, tiredness creeping up on his muscle groups. His arms felt like lead, while his legs were sore from the knee down. It seems that the effort he had put into pulling and using his body as a lever was just a bit too much on his own muscular groups. He was very sure that come tomorrow, he would be facing a very painful existence at least until his body fully recovers from the fatigue. While he was used to working out, the suddenness of the situation must have caused some strain on his cold muscles, since he had not been able to properly warm up his body for the tug of war. That was a curse of sudden muscle load, and he was sure that his current mentor would be shaking her head if she had learned of his own folly. Well, no matter. He had been able to actually catch the fish, and that was good enough for him. He did not even bother getting up from his position, and instead, stayed where he was for a couple of moments, savouring the reprieve as he closed his eyes. He could still feel the sweat trickling on his forehead, and thought to himself just how overdressed he was for this situation. That probably did not help the ordeal, with his more bulky get up making it just more hot and must have accelerated the rise of his body temperature. The sun definitely was not letting up, and he was slowly baking. [break][break]
With a groan, Augustus finally decided to get up from his stupor, he noticed Valo Stark congratulating him or something sort, though he still felt a bit dazed and only nodded with a smile. He turned towards the fish he had been able to pull in, with the help of the Green Mantis Magic Knight. He was sure that without his intervention, Augustus would most likely not have been able to save the fishing rod from snapping in half. He supposed that was what team work is for, after all. He certainly did not mind the help that the Green Mantis gave him, the man was more than capable. It would seem that the rumours about the Green Mantises reviving its roots once more was true to its word. A new Vice Captain had been sworn in recently, and Augustus was sure that this was the catalyst for this sudden change. [break][break]
“Yer a good lad, makin’ sure that the fishing rod didn’t break in two. Me granda’ owned that rod, and it’s been with me family fer generations.” [break][break]
A man who seemed to be middle aged, with sun kissed complexion and a kind smile approach Augustus. He held his hand out, and Augustus complied, passing the fishing rod that was pretty much still in tact towards the man. “Some repairs will be needed, and maybe even reinforcements. But for the most part, it’s still fine. Probably will not hold up another tug of war like that one.” He would say kindly. [break][break]
Augustus then turned to the Captain of the ship, Verona de la Rouge. It seems they did a job well done, and Augustus can only smile at their success.
