Here he was again in Rague the third time this month after he said the first time he was not coming back to the awful place. In Valo's eyes he was allergic to this whole town and as much as he would say he's not coming back he find's himself here again. The smell of looming fish and sea water ever so present in the air, his allergic and dramatic reaction to it was going to be the same. It was like some kind of curse that he couldn't be rid of. He was here again at the request of the captain of the ship herself, apparently making a good first impression somehow someway. All he could remember about that day was throwing up overboard countless times, why would they want him back. Plus Artemis practically forced him to go back as well. The whole point of completing the competition from before and winning was to make the connection in the first place, it made no sense to bail out now. Despite that fact the thought did pop up in Valo's head more than once.
The young wizard knight dragged his feet as he walked through the town and towards the ship. But this time instead of using a long scarf to cover his nose and mouth, Valo purchased a mask that was promised to do a better job. So far it was working he was able to walk through the town without throwing up once and that was an improvement. He still felt a little sick but it wasn't as much as before. Maybe he could make it through this day with having to puke once. It was a challenge was going to attempt and most likely fail but he was going to try his best none the less. Of course he wore his green mantis cloak signifying his magic knight status, he a lot more willing to don his cloak now compared to before. Mostly because of the modifications he made to it, but also his pride as a magic knight seemed to grow everyday he just didn't realized it.
He assumed if they requested for him to come back, they most likely asked for Augustus to return as well. He was the one who bought the giant fish in that won the competition in the first place. So he did keep his eyes open just in case the blonde knight caught his eye. But before he knew it he arrived at the ship, and stood in place gazing at it's magnificence. The Red Solaria he had to admit the ship was beautiful, it was like this perfectly sculptured large piece. But at the same time it looked fierce and tested. In Valo's mind it was a perfect combination of both fierceness and beauty. He looked up at the ship and saw Charlie, a man he befriended on his first outing.
"Hahahahaha you actually came back!!" Charlie shouted at Valo failing to hold back his loud laughter. "I had some doubts greenhorn! But I kew you were no wimp!" he said starting to poke fun.
"Yeah, yeah! Shut up!" Valo said walking on top of the ship. The smell of fish still hit his nose despite his mask, but instead of throwing up he simply let out a light gag. "Aagghh! Haha! See I'm not so weak compared to before!" Valo started to boast comically. Charlie came and patted Valo's shoulder, before speaking again this time not as loud as before.
"Seems you and the other greenhorn made quite the impression on the Cap'n somehow. This ain't going to be another fishing competition, this time the Cap'n plans on going further out towards the open sea. She wants to test the crew's ability for longer travel. But with that being said greenhorn, if not prepared the open sea can be the most dangerous place in the world. I just hope today you can pull your own weight and then some." Charlie said to Valo giving him a sort of preparation talk for what was going to be happening today.
Valo nodded in response taking his words in carefully. This wasn't going to be some little game to win, today they would learn how to sail and how to work on a ship properly. Failure this time was not an option, not like it ever was but this time lives were at stake. Valo took a glance at the captain Verona De la Rouge, looking as fierce and beautiful as she did before. In many ways she just about mirrored her ship. They nodded at each other but kept it short, Valo figured he would be spending more time with the captain compared to before. Valo took another look at the ship's helm, where the wheel was used to steer the ship. If he proved himself maybe he could be steering the ship.

Augustus had been informed that he was invited once again to join Verona de la Rouge and her crew in their ship, The Red Solaria. It was good timing too, since Augustus had just recently finished up the last of his paperwork for becoming a Priest. Of course at this point in time, he would actually have to wait for the current priest of Raque to retire. There was time, and he was sure that it would take little time for the man’s retirement and for him to assume the position he had promised. That was the key word after all, promised. At the end of the day, he was serving the Four Spirits, and he was not meant to actually pick and choose where he would end up serving. But of course, the Priestess Sierra had some political clout within the church. At least, she seemed to be well connected, and her help had been vital when it came to securing a position for Augustus within their ranks. While he himself was devout, there was no indication that he would have been promoted to Priesthood any time soon without the push of the Priestess Sierra. He definitely had her to thank for this eventual promotion of his, and to Raque of all places. A city within the Noble Region was always the aim, and this way, he would not lose his own position of power within the Noble Region, not having to leave his seat within the Royal Capital, since he would still be able to politick whenever it was needed of him. Though, for the most part, he would need to stay within Raque and tend to his duties as a priest. He would manage, no matter what it takes.[break][break]
Strapping the sword he had finally received back from his sister, Augustus made his way towards the docks. The sword itself, named Lumiere, was his pride and joy. It was a weapon forged by his sister and the blacksmiths within the Noble Region, commissioned specifically to be the weapon of choice for Augustus as he finally took a step towards becoming more active not only within the Church of Clover, but also within the field of battle. He had never expected to actually be one to fight, but the past weeks had been quite interesting to say the least. When he finally stepped back from the Royal Courts, and started to take on jobs around the Noble Region to acclimate himself to its people, he found himself in situations where combat had been necessary. From bandits to loose end guards, he had been tested both physically and mentally. He supposed that his twin sister was quite perceptive. She must have known that he would be faced with such trials and tribulations, and had prepared him the only way she knew she could. He supposed that having a sword had been a godsend, and hiring his mentor had also been a very smart move on his part. Combat was something he did not really focus on when he was growing up, but for some reason, his natural physical strength seems to be quite above the average joe. The training was proving very fruitful, which showed during the combat situations he found himself in the past weeks. The conditioning too was very helpful, giving him the necessary endurance that he needed.[break][break]
“Now what do we have here?” Augustus would tap his chin as he looked towards The Red Solaria. He saw a familiar face, and immediately started his way into the ship as he found himself clapped on the back in a friendly way by the crew members. He would smile and exchange quick greetings, nothing too familiar, but friendly enough for the relationship he had with these crew members of The Red Solaria during the fishing competition. He knew them by face, but less by name. Though they seemed to remember his name well enough. Augustus would make sure to actually remember the name of these crew members later down the road, returning the favour. For now, he would make his way towards his partner in the previous competition that they had won.[break][break] “Valo Stark,” he would start as he held his hand out for a shake. The man might take it, or he might not. “It seems that we were both invited, hey?” He nodded, looking around now as he surveyed the scene. The ship was filled with ropes and pulleys. Some of the items were unknown to Augustus, while others resembled the parts he was used to seeing when he went sailing with his friends. “So, what’s first?” He would ask the crew around him, while the Captain herself finally came of the lower decks, grinning at both Augustus and Valo. It seems they were going to be worked hard, but it would be a worthy experience. Not many can say they learned how to sail from The Fury of the Depths.

"Valo Stark."
Valo heard a familiar voice come from behind him, he turned to see Augustus and greeted him with a smile. But no one would see it due to his newly bought mask. He did take his hand and shake it though. It wasn't cool to leave a guy like Augustus hanging. While Valo thought he would probably never get along with a guy like Augustus in the past, it was clear he considered him an ally. "Blondie!! I figured I would see you here again!" Valo said using his nickname for the young noble. Valo couldn't remember the last time he actually called him by his actual name. Blondie was probably going to be Augustus's name according to Valo till the day he died. Once he thought of a solid name for certain people he never dropped it. But it did remind him of that time Augustus did make the joke to call him snow white because of his hair, he didn't mind it though since he had heard it all before.
Augustus was ready to get right to business though, asking what was first. This prompted Valo to actually look around the ship some more, really getting a good look of what surrounded them. All of this stuff looked foreign to Valo this only being his second time on a ship, and the same ship for that matter. The first trip he didn't really worry about the actual sailing part. But now that was going to be his main focus, he almost let out a sigh. It was not something he was really looking forward to at all. But nevertheless he was going to roll with it, and try his best.
Verona De la Rouge made her presence known as she began to speak, everyone on the ship went quiet and listened. "Today crew we set sail!" was all she said and the entire crew erupted in cheers. It seemed like such an simple announcement, but it was more than enough to get the people going. She would hold one hand up in the air and everyone went quite again. It was clear she had everyones respect and loyalty. "It warms my cold heart to know that the simple command of setting sail excites you all so much. But this trip will not be an easy one. We have two returning members aboard our ship today, they helped us capture the fish that beat Smack Caballero. But today we help them become sailors and men of the sea!" she said looking directly into the eyes of Valo and Augustus grinning.
The crew began stomping their feet on the ship in unison, while looking at the two. Verona continued. "So men and women aboard my ship! Let us help and show these greenhorns just how we operate a ship as fast as the Red Solaria. Show them how to set sail, how to rig, how to catch the winds and i'll show them how to dodge the storms!" she shouted causing yet another eruptions of cheers and yells. With that the Red Solaria took off into the sea.
Charlie and a young female approached Valo and Augustus grins on their faces, ready to put the young men to work. "Ight greenhorns you heard the Cap'n today we gonna show ya sail a ship. Hope ya ready cause this work aint easy. There might be some storms out today, but that ain't ever stop us before. In fact the Cap'n is a master of steering clear of storms and large waves. So ya'll gotta worry about that to much." the women said quickly darting her eyes between both of them.
"Names Brandy no last so don't ask. I ain't here to babysit either ya here." she said her tone getting more frustrated. There was no particular reason for it but it just seemed apart of her character she didn't take things lightly, and had a serious scowl on her face at all times. "Aye aye you paying attention!" she said snapping to get Valo's attention. But he was looking down at the ground starting to feel sick again.
This was probably the worst time for it though, he swallowed and looked up at Brandy. Nodding "Yeah yeah I'm paying attention. But when do I get to steer the ship." he said using his chin to point at the ship's helm where Verona was.
Brandy and Charlie laughed. "Hahahaha Greenhorn I wouldn't look forward to that if I were you. It's rare Verona actually shows someone how to steer this ship...she's very attached." Charlie said patting his shoulder. "You got a lot more work to do till that can happen, if it ever does." now you two follow me Brandy said walking towards the right side of the ship to some open rope.
"Today crew we set sail! It warms my cold heart to know that the simple command of setting sail excites you all so much. But this trip will not be an easy one. We have two returning members aboard our ship today, they helped us capture the fish that beat Smack Caballero. But today we help them become sailors and men of the sea! So men and women aboard my ship! Let us help and show these greenhorns just how we operate a ship as fast as the Red Solaria. Show them how to set sail, how to rig, how to catch the winds and i'll show them how to dodge the storms!”[break][break]
Augustus would notice just how rowdy the crew seemed to have gotten after the announcement of the Fury of the Depths, Captain Verona de la Rouge. Of course, he had not been surprised by just how rowdy the crew members of the ship were. They were sailors by heart, and those who were not would have been quickly weeded out during their first few days on a ship. It took not only guts, but also an affinity to either the sea, or sailing a ship, to be able to stomach being in such an environment for long periods of time. Augustus himself could never see himself being a sailor. There were good moments with sailing. The ocean breeze was one of them, and the feeling of freedom as the ship skimmed through the waves was another. However, there were just too many things left to be accomplished for himself. Too many expectations left to be accomplished for the family. Too many goals that still needed to be met by himself. No matter how much the sense of adventure was calling him, Augustus knew that he needed to be focused on what is ahead of him. Distractions always came with a cost, and Augustus was not one to pay them without necessity.[break][break]
“Let’s go then!” He would shout out loud with the crew, and then was forced towards a set of ropes that he kind of knew how to manage. There were supposed to be shown how to sail a ship of this size and magnitude. He heard Valo asked about steering the ship, and could not help but chuckle at the young man. “I don’t think the Captain is someone to actually give control of her ship to a random person, no matter how endeared we are to her.” He would shake his head now, “I was once told that the relationship between a Captain and their ship was tight knit, something that cannot be easily broken. There is a sense of pride, of ownership, and of control.” Augustus had heard stories of Captains choosing to go down with their ship, for their ties to it was for life. “No, Verona de la Rouge would entrust us the sailing of the ship by being deckhands, but most likely not the helm.” Augustus shrugged. There was a chance that they would get to stay at the helm of the ship, though it was slim. He expected to be worked hard. And his body was already experiencing phantom pains of the muscle aches he knew he would be having by the end of this journey.[break][break]
“Oi! Liven up! Wind are pickin’ up so yer both need to strap those sails and let them loose!”[break][break]
Augustus barely caught the orders as the winds indeed started to pick up. It had been a light breeze at first, but slowly and surely, it started to pick up in speed and velocity. It had almost been too uncanny as to how the winds seemed to have changed moods without prior notice. Augustus, while knowledgeable enough of how petty sea weather can be, was still amazed just how fast the change was. But, there was nothing for it. A sailor, the ship, and its Captain must be prepared for anything and everything. It seems that the winds favoured giving Augustus and Valo a harder time with their learning. Trial by fire, it would be. Augustus shook his head, before starting to make his way towards the ropes that were attached to the sails.[break][break]
“Valo, let’s tie these up as soon as possible! The winds will pick up and the ship seems to be able to ride strong breezes without problem.” He would shout towards the Green Mantis Magic Knight, hoping that the man was able enough to help out. He knew that he could get sick quite easy, and was not sure whether his sea legs were with him today. Augustus hoped that he was able enough, for his sake at the very least.[break][break]
The winds started picking up, and Augustus found himself struggling with one side of the ropes. He refused to use a strength spell this time around, unlike the fish he had caught previously. While it would most likely help, he would not be deterred, and wanted to prove to himself that he had the necessary strength not backed up by a spell to do this simple task. The weather was against them, but he would not budge. He would not allow himself to budge.[break][break]
With a roar, Augustus fought the winds and was finally able to attach his side of the rope to the side of the ship. He was panting now, though his job seemed to be over for the moment. He would look over to Valo, hoping the man had been able to tie his end to the side of the ship as well, so that the sail was secure and able to pick up the strong breeze propelling the ship forwards.

As Valo walked over to the ropes, he looked up at the sky the winds were getting a lot stronger. They had only just begun and already they were going to be tested. Now was not the time to freeze up. Valo wasn't a sailor he didn't think of it not even once, but that was no excuse. On this ship he probably had to make himself one cause sea sick old Valo wasn't going to cut it. So he didn't even bother thinking about getting sick, his stomach still felt queasy but he was growing more and more accustomed to ignoring it. Valo started to make a face after hearing some responses about wanting to steer the ship, Charlie, Brandy and Augustus informing him that a captain never really ever let anyone else steer their ship. How a captain and their ship have a tight nit bond that could never really be severed. The most he would be able to do as for as helping the ship was serve as a deckhand. Valo however kept his eyes on the helm just a bit longer before turning and grabbing some rope and finally getting to work.
“Oi! Liven up! Wind are pickin’ up so yer both need to strap those sails and let them loose!”
Valo heard the instructions but it was getting a bit harder to hear. A rush of excitement started to fill in Valo's veins, as a youth Valo didn't really go on much adventures like all the knights and heroes he heard about in stories. To him getting away after stealing some food from the local market was all the adventure he could get. So there was quite a few times when he imagined going out on adventures be it land or sea. Of course in his mind he wasn't so sick to the smell of fish and sea water. But now that he was here out in open sea learning to sail and possibly be a sailor, the sense of adventure started to energize him. He knew very little about how ships worked and overall life at sea was damn near foreign to him.
But despite his criminal like past, Valo was pretty perceptive he could focus on a task when it really mattered and get it done especially physical ones. He took a quick watch on how the other crewmen and Augustus tied the rope to the side of the ship. With a hard tug despite the winds working against him Valo was able to tie his rope with some effort but not really overly exerting himself. Physical tasks always came easy to Valo, his height and weight and overall athleticism was damn near impressive. Some may look at him on the surface and just consider him slender maybe even less than that. But the young wizard knight had a great physique he got from intense physical training over the years. So labors like this he could do with no sweat. He made sure his rope was tight and secure and also made sure it looked just like the others. He saw Augustus struggling a bit to tie his rope, but it looked like he was going to get it done. Taking another look at the other crew men who were still working, Valo grinned when he was the first one done actually. "Hehehe. I got a little knack for this stuff don't I?" he said with a cocky tone feeling rather good about himself.
Charlie who was keeping an eye on him, came over "Don't get cocky now greenhorn. There's some more rope that needs tying on the other side." he said pointing to some more loose rope. Valo wasted no time though to run over, grab the rope and again despite the winds being in his way tied it effectively and efficiently. Repeating the same process two more times, as he tied his last one his breaths started to get heavier. This wasn't easy work, but the grin on his face was showing that he was enjoying it. He started to flex his arms comically, after being proud of his work.
He walked back over to Augustus and company. "Oi blondie! We keep this up and we'll make for some good sailors sooner or---." He stopped mid sentence his face going green. He then ran back over to the sides of the ship and started barfing. He was doing well to keep his composure thus far, but one couldn't ignore his bodily functions for too long. He wiped his mouth and looked back over, taking a few seconds to gather himself before asking. "Alright what's next?"
Augustus would look towards his companion, realizing that he had finished his own end before Augustus himself had been able to tie his own rope. He was not expecting it to be so, but he digressed. The young man was probably very capable, though the sea itself was definitely not to his own liking. He could somewhat feel for the Green Mantis Magic Knight, though on a lesser degree. As they continued sailing, Augustus found himself wanting to go back to land. Of course, this was a customary reaction by someone who had not spent too much time at sea. While the vast expanse of blue gave Augustus the feeling of being free, it also felt constricting to the Deacon of the Royal Capital. The sea was open, and the possibilities were endless, yet there lies the problem of it all. The possibilities were too endless. Augustus was so very used to having a plan, a goal, a mission of sorts that drove him. A fuel, if one needed a better term for it, that made Augustus be who he was at the very moment in time. Once it was to gain the admiration and the support of the various noble families within the Royal Court. He had been tasked by his family to be the voice of the Ravencrests, to represent them in the political field. Augustus had been driven to be the very best, and he had done a good job at it, for the most part. However, it was not enough. It was the reason why he had decided, with consultation from his family, to join the Church of Clover. A new goal, and a new arena, and most importantly, something he could finally see himself doing. [break][break]
He would shake his head now. [break][break]
The sword, Lumiere, was still strapped on his back. Six foot in length, it did not have any sort of scabbard at all. In fact, putting it into a scabbard would only hinder Augustus during battle, not being able to draw it as quickly because of its length. The sword was meant to be strapped, and be quickly maneuvered from the side. It weighed on him, but he kept his face neutral. He supposed that being in a ship like this, and doing manual labour, did not suit having a large sword strapped to his back. He then felt a small weight on his chest, and looked down to see the Church of Clover Sigil that he carried with him always. It was the only symbol that showed him as a member of the Church of Clover, and its current shape denoted him as a Deacon. He proudly wore it, representing the Church of Clover unflinchingly. He supposed his pride showed, and the way he was taking to his new role within the Church told his family that he meant every word about cultivating the Ravencrest influence within the said establishment. He was almost a priest now, and soon, he would be starting his climb towards the Bishop position, with hopefully a spot ready for him to be occupied. The last goal was Cardinalship, and that was momentous. It will be a work in progress, and Augustus was more than ready to endure. [break][break]
“Oi! You boys ready for the real challenge?” One of the sailor grinned at both Valo and Augustus, shaking him from his stupor as he was brought back to reality, thought of how heavy the weight of the broad sword was weighing him down was pushed back into the recesses of his mind. “The ship itself sails pretty easy in the wind. Yer can see the sails are pretty strong, them ones. They have seen storms, and the ship had outlasted hurricanes! Yer won’t be able to find a better ship than this ‘un.” The sailor would shake his head. “But, when the wind ain’t cooperation’, we need to improvise! Below deck is where the Captain wanted you both to be at.” He would gesture to the opening that led below deck. “The Red Solaria is a hybrid type ship, and our most prominent feature are them rowers! Not get down there!”[break][break]
Augustus was practically shoved down towards the deck below, and found himself staring at a large group of men and women lined up on either side facing him and Valo. They seemed to be grinning ear to ear, expecting the two of them to join their group. From what Augustus could tell, there were at least a dozen rows on each side, and each row had a long piece of wood that he assumed as the row paddles that extended out of the ship.[break][break]
“So, this is what makes The Red Solaria so successful, hm?” Augustus would say to himself, “Combined with the sails using the wind, the rowers make the ship even faster as the ship itself rides the waves.” It all made sense now, as Augustus made his way towards an open spot.[break][break]
“Valo, let’s show these men and women that we’re not pansies!” Augustus laughed out loud, gripping the section of the paddle, ready to start the motions, “Whenever you’re all ready, ladies and gents.”

Valo stood up trying to stop slouching over as he was given his next set of orders. In spite of his sea sickness Valo was enjoying working on a ship like this. He was used to physical labor and getting dirty so that didn't bother him much. He was really starting to feel like he was on a big adventure, the only thing that could make it better to him was to run into some pirates. Pirates were not to be taken lightly, as a child his mother would read him tons of stories of pirates. Usually the stories made light of them poking fun at the many pirate tropes. While he knew they were just stories Valo always had it in the back of his mind that he was one day going to meet some pirates. But Valo quickly waved the thoughts away, chances of them running into pirates were slim. Few would have the gall to challenge Verona and her Red Solaria at sea.
“Oi! You boys ready for the real challenge?” one of the crewmen would say directly to Valo and Augustus. Valo's interest started to increase, accepting challenges was his favorite thing to do. He was already feeling pretty good after tying the ropes to the side of the ship, what challenge could he dominate next.
“But, when the wind ain’t cooperation’, we need to improvise! Below deck is where the Captain wanted you both to be at.” the sailor continued to say causing Valo's face to go from excited to lifeless. Below the deck meant rowing over and over again to keep the ship moving. It wasn't exactly what Valo had in mind for an adventure. How was he supposed to see the good stuff from down below the deck? How was he supposed to look out for incoming intruders? How was he supposed to face pirates maybe being a rower? Valo let out a deep sigh as the sailor gestured to below the deck practically pushing them both down there. Valo could hear Charlie's laughter from a distance. "Told ya not to get to cocky greenhorn. A ship ain't the place for showboating!" he shouted and teased him waving him off.
Valo looked around and saw two long lines of men and women, a lot of them were grinning seemingly expecting to see the two down here. "This was some kind of set up..." Valo said the disappointment in his voice obvious. Truth be told Valo still had it in his mind he was going to find his way to the helm of the ship somehow. The white haired wizard was stubborn to say the least, he never took the first or second, third, fourth even fifth no as an answer. Whenever some sort of obstacle lay before him he always just hit it head on till he got what he wanted. Even if things didn't turn out the way he wanted them to, he was always satisfied that he tried his absolute best and never wavered from that. So even when faced with this, his overall plan was to still be at the helm of the ship one day.
But for today he would row and if he was going to row he was going to try his best at it. But perhaps not be so optimistic about it as Augustus was. The blonde knight just seemed to take everything in stride it was admirable it said a lot about his character. Valo thought for a bit, this was his third mission with Augustus and he felt he barely knew him. He knew he was a Ravencrest but that didn't mean much to Valo. He wasn't a magic knight instead he worked with the church, Valo's knowledge on the churches and it's structures and policies were non existent. Perhaps this time could used to get to know a little more about Augustus the blonde church knight. He did noticed his massive sword that seemed at times to be weighing him down. The sword was nearly as tall as Valo who stood at 6'2 so he had maybe two inches at best on it. Augustus himself was tall too, they were probably the same height with Valo having an inch on him. So he assumed for him to be carrying a giant sword like that at all times must have been tiring.
Valo took a seat right behind Augustus, grabbing a wooden paddle in front of him. Augustus would announce he was ready to start whenever everyone else was, and Valo just followed along rowing with the motions. "Hey Augustus..." Valo said to him actually using his first name for once. "What's with the massive sword?" he followed up and asked. Giving him the time to answer, he followed up with another question now that everyone was rowing in sync. "I know your not a magic knight, but I've always been confused you work for the church? How does that work?" He asked with genuine interest. After some time would pass with Valo and Augustus conversing something big would slam into the ship cutting their convo short, and causing everyone below the deck to do silent. After a second one word would be heard from above. "PIRATEESS!!"

Augustus would get a feel of the air. It was honestly quite sweaty, and very much not the epitome of cleanliness. What could he expect? This was a ship at the end of the day. While the captain was a woman of well renown, that did not mean that the place would smell like daisies and roses. These were hard working men and women, after all. They were all very much hands on with their jobs. There was no clean running water, and hygiene truly was bare minimum in a ship. While the sea water was water itself, it was also filled with salt. Salt was hard on the skin, and therefore not useful when it comes to hygiene. The only clean water to be found was the ones imported into the ship during docking times. And those run out fast, since only the captain truly had monopoly on it, or so what he was told earlier when he’d ask one of the crew members for a glass of water. [break][break]
Then they started rowing. [break][break]
