[attr="class","shadowsHead"]A new sort of monster? [Jr]
Sightings of a new monster have been seen around the city of Sosshi, and it seems they are attacking merchants and other travelers on their way into and out of the city. After the most recent attack a survivor was found and reported the incident. Find the monster and stop it’s attacks however necessary.
[attr="class","shadowsSub"]Details
Maximum Number of Players: 4
[break]Minimum Word Count: 1,500
[break]Location: Sosshi
[break]Special Requirements: Players must speak to the survivor. Players must kill minotaurs.
[break]Additional Information: Survivor: A merchant by the name of laric was attacked by the monster, if spoken to he will tell you of a monster that was similar to a bull, but could stand, and even talk. He will then point you in the direction of the monster, the exit pathway of the city a little ways out. As a send off he will tell you not to underestimate the small creature.
[attr=class, cyrustext]Cyrus inhaled deeply, taking in the familiar air that filled the bustling streets of Sosshi. It had been quite some time since the Golden Dawn mage had last been there; as a matter of fact, thinking back, it was one of the few cities that he couldn't really claim to have visited very often during his days as a Magic Knight. It was kind of ironic in a way, seeing as this had been the place where Cyrus went on his first official mission back when he first joined the Golden Dawn. He could still remember the day fairly vividly; he and Pollux, then a senior of the squad, were asked to investigate the town after a string of robberies. The evidence they had found led them to an old jewelry shop that the robbers were targeting, pretending to be a delivery service so that they could work without drawing too much attention.
Luckily the two wizards had been able to put a stop to the robbery and arrest the entire gang, making for a successful and memorable first mission for the sap mage. And now here he was again, once more on duty. It seemed as though he only ever visited Sosshi for business, which was a shame since he thought it seemed like a lovely town, and admired its resilience despite being almost totally destroyed several times in the past.
Like that day a couple of years ago, Cyrus was working alongside some members of the Golden Dawn today. Specifically the Captain himself, as well as a junior member by the name of Cinna who he was passingly familiar with. They hadn't really interacted much at all in the past, so all he really knew about the young woman was that she was the sister of another young wizard in the squad, Ignis, and that they were both Vermilions. Some reports had been sent in about strange monsters being sighted not far from the town's perimeter, apparently making it a habit of attacking merchants heading into and out of the trading hub of Sosshi. While monsters attacking travelers wasn't anything too spectacular, the fact that they almost seemed to be specifically targeting merchants was a matter worth investigating. And as luck would have it (so much as a group of merchants being attacked could be considered "luck"), the most recently documented attack by these strange monsters had a survivor.
And so the trio were on there way to meet with this survivor, in the hopes of learning a little bit about just what had happened to he and his companions. Given their party, Cyrus doubted things would prove too difficult for them to handle, but it was always better to be safe than to be sorry; there would be no harm in going in with as much information as possible. Cyrus paused in his steps, spotting the building they had been instructed to visit in order to see the man in question; a local clinic where he was recovering, not far from the gate that he had been brought into town from. It was the same gate his group had been aiming to enter the city through, so once they had spoken to him they should be able to just head on out so they could deal with the monsters. "Here we are." Cyrus said, his spirit companion Hama looking up at the sign hanging above the clinic's door. "'All's Well' Medical Clinic? Seems like a fitting name for a doctor's office, I guess." She noted, finding some amusement in the place's name. A sign on the door showed that it was open to visitors for the moment.

Cinna Vermillion was a member of the Golden Dawn.
[break][break]
That meant, she had to partake in missions. She had to interact with other Squad Members. She had to speak to people that weren’t her brother.
[break][break]
A blank face showed no emotion. Ruby red eyes looked ahead, drilled into the distance. She followed along because she had apparently been personally assigned this mission by the Captain. The Captain’s name was Zaven Blake.
[break][break]
He had some title attached to him, some other dogma that fueled his ego. The girl didn’t care to remember the details. There was another mage in this group. Elwood, Cyrus. He had a spirit and that meant he was powerful in some other way.
[break][break]
Cinna found it less inspiring than what someone else would have thought. She didn’t particularly have a reason to. Sure there were strong knights, certainly, they were all role models to abide by and yet her resolve for admiration and even adoration was left somewhere else.
[break][break]
Her mind’s eye only had one thing she wanted to look for. And Ignis was no where to be found at the current moment in time.
[break][break]
They were here for a mission. Something about beasts that were terrorizing the roadways. It always seemed like that, she wondered why people bothered living out here when that was such a constant danger. Well, some people just didn’t have a choice.
[break][break]
She stood beside her fellow Golden Dawn Members, wearing her mantle formally. She nodded once at Cyrus’s words, but otherwise stood silently by.
[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] A quick move to Sosshi for a suspicious attack on some villagers, a report of a survivor and the Black Bulls...Malcolm Watanabe is not there to oversee whatever the hell is going on...of course not, and of course a note was left for Zaven to look after things if things went awry. He got a hold of Cyrus and one of the new recruits that had not been outside the headquarters all that much, Cinna Vermillion. He let them know that they were leaving shortly and of course Cyrus was ready to go whenever, however...Cinna was...another story. She did not speak that much to him, or at all really...to anyone. Her brother always said that she spoke to him, but there were most times Zaven had just learned to know her answers as soon as she gave a certain action or movement. Zaven had Elanor gather with them, she was going to take them to Sosshi, and once they had all gathered...they departed. Cyrus apparently knew where they were going so Zaven just let him lead the way. [break][break]
Once they were at the clinic he looked at Cyrus and Hama and gave a reassuring smile. ”Go ahead Cyrus, this is your mission...I am just here to observe.” Zaven said as he would wait to follow the man into the clinic.
[attr=class, cyrustext]Cyrus looked over at his two fellow Magic Knights as they approached the clinic where the survivor of the monster attack was recovering. Cinna seemed to acknowledge that they had reached their destination, but other than that she remained just as quiet as she ever did when her brother was not involved. Zaven gave the sap wizard an encouraging smile, urging him to take the lead on this operation. Cyrus nodded and turned back to the door, knocking before entering. A receptionist looked up to see he and the others enter, quickly standing up straight once she saw their mantles.
"Pardon the intrusion, miss. My name is Cyrus Elwood, of the Golden Dawn. This is Cinna Vermillion and Captain Zaven, also of the Golden Dawn, and my partner Hama. We recently received a report that a group of traders had been attacked near town, and the only survivor was brought here for treatment. If it is alright, we would like to speak to the man so we can know what happened."
The woman nodded, asking them to wait there for a moment as she went to speak to the doctor. It was only about half a minute before she returned. She informed them to head to the backmost room of the clinic, where the doctor was waiting with the patient in question. "Thank you ma'am." Cyrus said, leading the others down the hall. Just where she had said, the doctor was standing outside the open door to the room.
"He'll survive, but it was close. Those things got him pretty good. I'd like to request you keep the meeting short; he needs his rest." The doctor said, stepping aside to allow them into the room. There the patient laid, staring at the entrance as the knights and spirit entered his room. "The doctor said you wanted to ask me about what happened?" He asked, getting a nod in response from Cyrus and Hama. "Right. We've gotta know just what we're dealing with before we head out." The spirit confirmed.
The man looked at her curiously for a second, but then nodded and returned his eyes to Cyrus since he was closest. "My group was travelling along the roads near the city when it happened. These things rushed us from within the tall grass by the road, knocking over our wagon before attacking. I... I think they were minotaurs. Walked upright, heads like bulls, all carrying axes. I think there were three. Didn't seem as big as the ones I read about though."
Cyrus thought on what he said. The description he provided definitely matched up with that of a minotaur, though their apparent small size intrigued him. Minotaurs were typically said to be large, imposing creatures. Still, they had the information that they needed. "Thank you for the information, sir. Please, get some rest. I'm sorry about what happened to the rest of your group, but know that we will make sure these monsters won't attack anybody ever again."
With that being said he exited the clinic, thanking the doctor and receptionist as they left and turning towards the nearby town exit. He stepped beyond the city's threshold and looked out into the wild. "He said that the minotaurs had attacked them from tall grass." He repeated, searching for any place that could fit that description as they walked. Hama hummed thoughtfully. "He said they weren't very big, too. Are they just runts or something?" She asked. "Maybe driven out by others so they target people for easier prey?"
It was certainly possible, but the only way they would know for sure would be to find these guys and see for themselves.

“Go ahead Cyrus, this is your mission...I am just here to observe.” [break][break] Ah, they had already accepted that her presence here was more or less, unnecessary. [break][break] Cinna didn’t feel offended, in fact, she didn’t feel much of anything at all. It wasn’t particularly in her interest to be memorable. If they asked her to do something, she would do it. If she was needed in a battle, she would fight. If they spoke to her in a manner that required her to speak, she would. [break][break] But nothing was quite required of her, not at this moment and she was actually quite fine with that. Just following orders, just doing as her superiors asked. That was all that was needed for a magic knight. [break][break] They spoke to someone at this small clinic. Cinna let her attention wander more so now since the talking about was being taken care of by Cyrus. She overheard the most major points, attacks of people on the road by beasts, presumably minotaurs. The merchant seemed uneasy. [break][break] Cinna understood it was a bad thing. That Magic Knights had been dispatched to care of this bad thing. She further understood that assuaging the fears of the citizens would be paramount in not just assuring their safety, but their trust in Magic Knights. [break][break] Cyrus was doing a good job of that, so she didn’t feel the need to say anything at all. [break][break] Finally, they were done. [break][break] She followed along again, this time to the edge of the town, presumably to the area that the injured merchant had described where the minotaurs were. [break][break] Cyrus mused out loud again. Quietly, Cinna wondered why he always had to speak his thoughts out loud. People tended to talk without really thinking about what they said besides just feeling the need to say it. Cyrus seemed like one of those people. That and his spirit always seemed to say something back to him. Cinna also wondered if having a spirit really was worth anything if all they did was talk to their bonded mage most of the time. [break][break] In Cinna’s mind, the only person that ever said worthwhile things was her brother. [break][break] And so the trio stood outside the village, in a plains-like area that was nearby the road. Cinna stared at the view. This really was the Forsaken Region. Cinna grew up in the realm before she was adopted by the Vermillion household. The endless rolling hills, plains, and forests in the distance hadn’t changed at all. [break][break] Middle of nowhere, the boonies, the countryside where the kind of people who were nobody all came from. [break][break] She looked again, see rustling tall grass in the wind. She tilted her head, blinked ruby red eyes at the sight. And then, spotted a pair of horns shoot up from the grass. [break][break] Immediately, Cinna flared up her mana, her grimoire floated out beside her. “Mercury Magic: Igneus Imber.” She spoke her spell softly out loud. [break][break] “Enemy sighted. Twenty meters, northwest. A group.” Her grimoire glowed with silver-red aura, from its pages poured mercurial silver, lit ablaze with the heat of fire. [break][break] From across the way, the head of a bull poked up from the grass, but it was soon followed by the body of a beast-like creature. However noticeably, it wasn’t as large as one would have expected a proper minotaur. [break][break] And then there were not just one of these beasts, but there were three.

TL;DR Cinna spots the minotaurs and prepares for a FIGHT
A quirky perk that allows one’s element to naturally gain a property that is not naturally associated with that element. This does not give your element any sort of advantage or weakness over another element. It will still make them 100% the same strength/weakness as before. It is purely for flavor purposes or can add a different means of dealing damage, like adding a burning like feature to an element that would not normally have said feature. For example: water that burns like acid. When picking this oddity, please limit the effect to something that is in your element's grimoire tier and do not make it broken. Staff can at any point in time force you to change it. Elements oddity can be turned on or off depending on the spell being used. If a spell is going to utilize the oddity it should be made mention in the spell's creation! Platinum elements and paint cannot be picked as oddities.
[break][break]
Your oddity is [Fire]
[break]
Description: Cinna summons a small softball-size sphere made of her pure mercury element from the pages of her grimoire. The sphere shines silver and seems to be constantly ‘melting’ as it is made of liquid mercury itself. The sphere is surrounding by red-hot flames, touching by Cinna’s oddity of Fire. Through the use of this spell, Cinna further boosts her own [Power] stat by +4. Cinna can freely summon and control this sphere in order to launch it at enemies, levitating them in the air in a freely moving telekinetic fashion. More spheres can be created per ammo rules. Spheres upon contact make [Intermediate] damage, causing up to 2nd burns and other heat damage on targets.
[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] As Cyrus took the lead, Zaven looked at Cinna, her usual stoic stare was off putting as hell, like a damn garden gnome that needed to be turned away otherwise it would scare the absolute shit out of some people, but Zaven was nicer than to just gawk at her. He would walk with Cyrus before talking down to Cinna, not expecting anything back in return. ”You know...getting out without your brother...is not the end of the world. I know you will follow orders, but at least try to be assertive...you are a part of this team today after all.” He said as he watched Cyrus carefully, and truth be told...he was not really of much use here as well, besides just information gathering. The patient looked pretty rough, and he did not envy them...he did have his long coat on and used some of its healing property to at least try to soothe the pain. Afterwards he looked to Cyrus who had a new direction that they were all supposed to go in in order to stop the bulls. ”Very well...I am itching to try my blade against theirs regardless.” Zaven said, his tone made him seem a little bloodthirsty, and his azure eyes shined in a peculiar way. As he followed the pair of junior knights (as in he is their senior...not rank) to the edge of the city...it was becoming more and more silent as they came to the place where the victim turned patient said the bulls roamed. Hama shared a few words before Cinna’s mana flared up...instinctively Zaven’s own grimoire was about to float near his head...instead his relic...this axe of his needed to taste blood...he knew it needed it. Every weapon that he touched needed that bond with its master. Zaven drew the axe as Cinna prepared, there were three minotaur in the tall grass. [break][break]
“Pick one and stick with it. Cinna if you need help, yell...or something. By the way, good eyes. Cyrus, you take out yours and cover for the remaining...make sure we finish this quickly and we can move forward.” Zaven said as he picked the largest of the minotaur, even though the bastard was squat and looked a bit deformed it held a wicked looking axe, and so as the roar was called out, Zaven let his intimidating aura run wild as he rushed to meet the minotaur in combat.
[attr=class, cyrustext]Cyrus overheard as Zaven attempted to urge Cinna to speak up some more, given how quiet she usually was. Just why she only ever seemed to communicate with Ignis was something he didn't really understand, but while he didn't mind someone being so reserved it did make it a bit more difficult to work on a mission with them.
Zaven expressed some excitement at the thought of combat, which the Elwood mage was used to; he knew of the Blake family head's fondness for combat. Before he could really contribute to the conversation, he saw Cinna ready her magic and call out quietly that she had spotted their enemies. Cyrus immediately got to focusing, honing in on the presence of their targets with his ki senses now that he knew they were present. Three of them, and just as the man had said they appeared to be minotaurs. Smaller than average as well, also accurate to his description. Zaven gave out orders to the other two, suggesting they each take their own to focus on.
More than fine with this, Cyrus nodded. "Understood." He acknowledged. But rather than prepare his grimoire, he instead gave his arm a short swing. The gesture loosened the chain of the weapon wound around his wrist; the Scorpion's Eclipse weapon he had been gifted after his party helped Atlantis. He had yet to find an opportunity to use it in real combat, so he figured that monsters such as these that seemed rather unimpressive would be a decent enough way to warm up with it. His eyes fell on the minotaur closest to him. It seemed a bit more wiry than the others, with thinner and longer but still muscular limbs.
Cyrus snapped the chain of his gauntlet against the ground and the beast turned its head to face him, huffing angrily at the clear challenge. It bellowed as it charged, raising its axe above its head while keeping its head low in an effort to gore the boy taunting him.
Cyrus stood his ground as the beast approached, taking careful aim with his weapon. Before the monster got too close he swung the chain, sending the wicked barb at the end straight towards the beast's head. It struck dead on, burying itself in the minotaur's skull and dropping it to the ground, the creature sliding forward a few feet from its own momentum. Cyrus yanked the barb free, wrapping the chain around his wrist again in an instant. He turned to face the others, particularly Cinna just in case she needed help since he wasn't fully certain of her combat capabilities yet. Hama watched Zaven, always enjoying the sight of the Captain at work. She spared a moment to whistle appreciatively at how her partner had dispatched with his own opponent however, liking the new weapon. "Such a sweet haul!" She said with an excited laugh, clearly not concerned about the remaining monsters.

“You know… getting out without your brother… is not the end of the world.” [break][break] It was easy for him to misunderstand, so she didn’t bother correcting him. She had her own way of doing things, and it was because it was for the sake of her brother, not because she could not act independently of him. If she was to support him in all the manners that she could, then it came to be that she would have to be a Knight that could stand on her own. [break][break] She would. She didn’t need to explain that. She could just do it, and then let her actions speak for themselves. [break][break] Her flaming mercury came ablaze from her grimoire as she readied for battle, spotting the enemies just as she spoke aloud. The other two also came to ready for a fight. [break][break] Orders were given. She could listen. [break][break] “Yessir.” [break][break] Out of the three there, it was a given that she was the weakest. But the enemies they faced were not troubling in their power or their ability. Cinna understood her own abilities fairly well, she could take care of one, as instructed. [break][break] She charged ahead, picking one of the minotaurs to the side. “Tch.” The bull was fast, but she was faster. And so was her spell. [break][break] Flaming balls of mercury made contact with the bull’s face, causing the creature to roar aloud. She stopped a mere few meters from the creature as it tumbled to the ground, Cinna stood watching over the burning thing as its movements slowed to stillness. [break][break] She turned to the other two, nodding that she was done.

[attr="class","zavenreescroll"] Zaven rushed into a heated exchange with the minotaur, their axes meeting between their bodies as the two creatures bred for and from war clashed. The hard word smacking against each other would make observers wince, but only made Zaven grin as it happened, the minotaur was in similar spirits as they clashed. ”Awfully bold for a creature to face me in a head to head clash, since your brothers are now dead, so how about you give me some info and I will make your death swift?” Zaven called to the creature, hoping it would understand, but in the end...it did not work to the effect that Zaven wanted so he broke the exchange and charged the minotaur again, moving to lower his shoulder at the last moment before slamming into his target, knocking away its axe before seeing the creature show the first hint of fear. [break][break]
Still accelerating, Zaven felt the wind shift a little as the axe came down and landed between him and the minotaur who was now recovering. The creature stumbled to its feet before letting out a mad roar and charging towards its own axe, a defiant last cry of energy as it instinctively knew one thing...to fight. It was too bad that Zaven happened to be the creature’s enemy. Zaven, reached the axe first before grabbing it and swinging the blades into a seemingly impossible attack as Zaven brought the blades up and with the axes and a single swing he managed to gut the arms off the minotaur as the creature fell down and was unable to go further. Zaven then turned and threw the creature’s own axe back at the tormented creature and watched as the axe landed...hitting its mark, splitting the bulls head that caused blood to pool at the creature's lifeless body. The captain of the Golden Dawn sighed as he put his axe back across his back and joined the group again. [break][break]
”It is best to go and report that the immediate threat has been dealt with and see if there is anything else we can help with while we are here...Cyrus, lead the way.” Zaven said as he stood beside Cinna. ”You both did well today.” He said to them both as he yawned, the bull had not offered enough challenge to him.
[attr=class, cyrustext]Cyrus watched with a great deal of satisfaction as Zaven and Cinna both dealt with their own chosen enemies. And just like that, as soon as the battle had begun, it was over. He had no doubts that things would end without incident, given the company, but it was still nice to see everything wrap up in such a neat and tidy fashion. Zaven had put on quite the show, as he always did, while Cinna opted for a simple but arguably no less flashy method of flaming mercury projectiles.
Zaven congratulated his juniors on a job well done, but it was pretty obvious that he had found the exchange rather boring. It wasn't surprising; with all the stuff a Captain of the Magic Knights dealt with, a few minotaurs were rather mundane by comparison; he had even only "fought" a single one during their little skirmish. Cyrus nodded, while Hama stretched. "Not much to report, really." She noted with a yawn of her own. The little spirit was something of an adrenaline junkie herself after all.
"Right. Back to Sosshi, then. Good work everyone!" Cyrus agreed, stowing away his weapon before looking out to the grass that the minotaurs had emerged from. "We should make a note of where they came from, in case of future attacks. Get word to citizens and the Knights and see if we can keep a better watch on the area in case of future attacks. Might wanna look into the records on minotaur activity in the area once we get back." He suggested, retrieving a small notebook from his bag and writing down a description of the area. He took a closer look at the beast that he himself had slain.
Once he was finished, Cyrus snapped the notebook shut. "Alright. Let's get on back and share the good news!"

That was it. That was the end, and that was all that needed to be done. [break][break] Cinna let her grimoire float down, closing the book at her side with deliberate posture. She looked to her Captain, nodding once at his apparent words of praise. Quite honestly it was not a job that required that much of any of them, so such compliments seemed only trivial. [break][break] She listened as she had to, feeling the slight breeze pick up locks of her auburn red hair. Her acknowledgment of praise was just that, an acknowledgment. Only the best of expected of the Magic Knights, so it seemed less important to her to be lauded for actions that were supposed to the standard.
