[break] House Name: Somerset [break]House Location: Hapshass, Common Region [break]House Standing: Active [break]House Traits:
The members of the Somerset Family are known to produce children that show traces of various races that had once been inhabited the Clover Kingdom. Be it Elf, Dwarf, Human, or Witch, the Somerset bloodline has produced its share. Intermarriage between other noble houses saw to that.
While the Nobility tend to lean towards a higher rank of Grimoire, the Somerset Family has produced heirs and family members who hold Grimoire’s of a lower rank. In effect, the Somerset Family has no set rank of Grimoire that defines it. From Copper, to Platinum, it has produced it all.
Dark shades of eye and hair colour dominate the Somerset family. It is a trait passed down by the dominant gene within the family, one that ties it together.
Fair Skinned, the Somerset family do not tan well. Even when working in the middle of the sun, fishing under direct sunlight, or even sunbathing, Somersets turn red instead of tan.
The Somerset family are mostly liquid-based mages, though some extended family have shown to utilize a myriad of other types of elements. This is due to the fact that intermarriage between other nobility has influenced the Somerset family as well.
Neutrality is the name of the game for the Somerset family. They play all sides equally, catering to all, and making coin while they are at it.
Most family members will like fish as a dish, it’s just a fact of life for a Somerset, growing up owning one of the largest fishing industry in the Clover Kingdom.
Some family members might look down on commoners, which is not uncommon for the nobility. There is elitism at hand, though Artemis squashes it when she sees it. As the Head of the Family, she tends to be neutral.
The Somersets are fantastic at fishing. What can they say, they live and breathe the sea. They are also great sailors as well. It is not uncommon for a Somerset to have captained a fishing vessel before turning twenty.

History
[break] The Somerset family is old blood, though their origins were simple to begin with. As a minor noble family, their domain has always been in the fishing industry. The pride and joy of the Somerset family, their business and monopoly of it around the coasts of the Clover Kingdom has made them fairly wealthy. However, while their wealth might be powerful in its own right, the Somerset family is still a Lesser Noble Family. [break][break]
The Somerset family was founded by a wealthy fisherman, who, at one point, owned more than a handful of the fishing vessels across the ports of the Clover Kingdom. It was this small monopoly that catapulted the Somerset family into nobility, with the Clover Kingdom having heard of the family’s holdings and securing it for wartime purposes. Ships, after all, were a commodity during war.[break][break]
The Somerset family, as expected, grew their business. Their monopoly on fishing went unchallenged for the most part, save for some other noble families who were also dabbling into the industry. It was good to have competition, after all. What came with their territory, however, is the fact that during any conflicts, The Somerset family supplies the Crown with a lot of their merchants and fishing vessels as transport. This was done with making sure that all of the Somerset-owned boats are larger than other same-type vessels.[break][break]
In recent times, the Somerset family has been known to produce liquid-based mages. However, years of inter-marriage with other noble families have shown that other elements can manifest within the Somerset bloodline. [break][break]
While the headship of the family typically passes onto the eldest, there was some push-back after the death of the previous patriarch. Artemis Somerset is next in line, as the eldest surviving child, however, a number of family members objected due to her delinquent nature. In the end, Artemis wrested control, and acts as the head of the family. However, day-to-day business of the family is run by Artemis’ mother, who survived her husband’s death.[break][break]

It had been awhile since Artemis had set foot into this place. The Green Mantis squad base was located on the outskirts of the Clover Kingdom itself. She supposed that as a place where reformed criminals and delinquents tend to deviate to, it was not surprising that the Royalty and Nobility would push the Green Mantis further away from the Capital as much as possible. While the Green Mantises were known to be ruthless, and filled with reformed criminals and those who had the tendency to become one, nobody can deny that the Magic Squad itself was filled with talent. The problem with these talents was that they were non-recruitable by the other Magic Squads. So, they were sent here. Commoners, and even Lower Nobility, who just had too much of a past. [break][break]
Artemis shook her head. It was plain to see that the Clover Kingdom would always have prejudices. The Forsaken Realm, as a whole, was a dumpster fire of poverty. The nobility, with all the gold they had, could not even spare a glance or three. Sometimes, it made Artemis just feel sick to her stomach. Sometimes.[break][break]
She sighed, turning her attention away from the gates of the squad base. Artemis supposed it had been at least a few months she had last been here. Five, or maybe six? She could not remember anymore. The last time was only to pick up a long-term mission that would have taken her a year to complete. It seems that everything got expedited and she got her prey and her reward sooner than expected. Of course, there was also the fact that some sort of event had happened. Artemis was unsure what it was. She had vivid memories that were not her own. Memories of dungeons that she had never completed but felt like she did. Monsters she had bested but had never laid eyes on. Spells that were casted from her grimoire, yet it was not her grimoire. Lava and Blood. No, water. Water was her element.[break][break]
It was all too confusing for Artemis. She could only shake her head once again. Piecing together all of these vivid memories, almost like dreams, had almost been a hassle. In fact, she had not made any head way what so ever. She supposed that she was here for that very reason as well. She needed some answers to her questions, and maybe her squad might just have some enlightening news that she had missed while she had been gone.[break][break]
Walking up towards the gates, Artemis gave a small huff before opening the double doors. The entrance was just that, an entrance. It was mostly bare, which was not surprising since Artemis knew that this entry way become quite the brawling grounds for the more rowdy members. She turned her attention towards a side door, and quickly made her way there. She could hear footsteps, and hoped it was another member or three. Maybe they will have the answers to her questions. Just maybe.[break][break]
With a push, Artemis opened the door towards where people might have gathered, a living room of sorts. She took a look around, before greeting, “Hello, hm.”[break][break]
Artemis looked around the training grounds of the Green Mantis with idle anticipation. The weather seemed to have permitted her some graces, with it being a cloudy yet not so dark day. The sun peaked every so often, while Artemis herself basked in the light breeze that swept through the grounds.[break][break]
Today was the day.[break][break]
Artemis knew that she should feel more excited about this. A trial of her capabilities, for all intents and purposes, by her Captain to see if she was capable of becoming the Vice Captain of her squad. It was a role that she did not aspire to solely out of ambition, but rather, had grown to be a need. The Green Mantises have too long been idle, and Artemis knew that something needed to change. If she were to be the catalyst for it, then so be it. She knew that whatever happens today would change her career within the Magic Knights as it is. If she were to prove capable, then she would ascend and finally prove her worth. If she failed, then all of her plans would have to be put on hold, while nursing a bruised ego. The put-off plans were more harm to her than her ego being broken.[break][break]
Someone was coming.[break][break]
Artemis demeanour changed entirely. While she knew that some of the Green Mantis members were more than likely going to watch this trial, she knew that they were smart enough to not be within the vicinity. This meant that the presence she was feeling was coming from the man she was going to be facing today.[break][break]
“Captain.” She would greet, though her posture now resembles someone ready for a fight. Like a cat ready to spring, Artemis’ hand was poised over her grimoire, while the other ready to channel mana. Her Captain was unpredictable, after all, and she knew to always be prepared. [break][break]

Augustus groggily turn his head to the side as he tried to remember the previous day. There was a haze that tried to trap him, keeping him from waking up fully, but he shoved it aside as best as he can. He knew that he had something important to do today, though he just can’t remember it properly just yet. There was a sense of peace as he laid on his bed, the sun just starting to stream into the room, and the birds were just about ready to start chirping their morning melody. Augustus knew peace then, and it can’t be helped that his bed was very comfortable, fit for a noble of his status. [break][break]
He turned to the side, before realizing that he was not alone in his bed. He had wondered why the bed was more weighted than usual, and shifting slightly, he could see that his companion was a woman, and the woman was bright blonde hair. Her figure was slim, and she seemed to have been a woman who kept herself in really good shape. Augustus was a man first and foremost, and can appreciate the beauty and physique of a woman. He would gaze at her for a few moments, before seeing her shift ever so slightly. It seems like just like him, his companion for the night was slowly regaining her consciousness. To be fair, he knew little of the young woman, though could for some reason remember her name. At least that would be enough to appease her somewhat, and hopefully she would be amicable enough to fill in the details of last night’s happening.[break][break]
“Good morning, sunshine,” Augustus would kiss the woman’s shoulders, tracing down the length. The omens would stir even more, before slowly turning to face Augustus. The Ravencrest noble would smile as he finally remembered most of their activities the previous night, the face of his companion triggering some of the memories to start rushing back. Good memories for the most part it seems. He would reach over to caress the young woman’s cheek, before smiling. “Never thought I would ever see you in bed like this, with me of all people!” Augustus would make an exaggerated gesture, while a smirk was plastered on his face. “A Vermillion such as yourself consorting with a Ravencrest, oh what has the world come to.” He would tease his companion, though he knew that sooner or later, both of them have to get up. Augustus was sure that his mentor was somewhere close by, ready to haul him to the training field for his early morning exercises. And of course, there was the fact that he had an appointment this afternoon, one that was momentous for Augustus’ career. A busy day indeed, so Augustus could not blame himself for wanting to spend just a few more moments in bed, relaxing and taking in the comfort that he had grown accustomed to for the past years. He knew that starting from today, he will be much more active in terms of the Clover Kingdom’s woes and affairs, though most likely not as much as her twin sister.[break][break]
“We should get up then,” Augustus would stretch himself out as trying to get the kinks in his joints to crack. “The longer we stay here, the most I am tempted to not get up.” He would look towards his companion with a smirk, “Of course, we could stay here as long as you would like, you will just have to ask nicely.” [break][break]
He was responded with a pillow thrown at his direction, with the Vermillion woman huffing. “Augustus Ravencrest, silver tongued, and respected by the Upper Nobility for your rhetorical prowess. How the mighty look so pathetic when they are bare naked.” The Vermillion Lady would remark with her own snarky reply, before tossing her hair back. “Don’t get your hopes up, Augustus, this was a one time thing. It will never happen again. And to be honest, I will never speak of this to anyone, and will deny this actually happened.” The woman would shake her head, a playful smirk gracing her lips as she sauntered around, grabbing her items of clothing and putting them on ever so slowly. “Augustus Ravencrest, I have barely met the man, and merely said two words of greetings before looking the other way and never seeing him ever again. Maybe people will believe it, maybe they will not. However much the rumour mill might churn, I will always deny everything.” The woman would almost be done picking up everything and sorting herself out as gracefully as possible, “A blow to your already overblown ego, but I think you will manage. And yes, if you even utter one single word about this tryst to anybody, I will make sure that you wake up one day as an eunuch.”[break][break]
Fiery in every sense of the word, Augustus found himself smiling at the woman’s brazen attitude. It was a fresh air from all the niceties that surrounded him day in and day out. Being in the Royal Capital, confined within the buildings of splendor and richness, and surrounded by retainers, servants, and fellow nobles is truly suffocating. Augustus had been assigned as the political head of the family, carrying on his parent’s legacy as the spearhead within the political arena. He had taken to it like fish in the water, yet, it also felt very constricting. Augustus found himself longing for something more than this stale and uneventful life. Sure, debates within the Clover Kingdom’s court sometimes was very entertaining. Maneuvering people and their decisions to fit the Ravencrest’s agenda was very exhilarating. His moniker within some social circles had been the silver-tongued raven, a tribute to his ability to make any situation turn out favourably for the Ravencrest family, his family. However, Augustus knew he wanted something more. His machinations here had been stalwart and true, but he also knew that he could only spread his influence so far as a mere politician without any affinity to either of the two most influential organization within the Clover Kingdom: the Magic Knights and the Church of Clover.[break][break]
Augustus knew that the Magic Knights were always looking for new recruits into their fold. Certainly, he was sure that by virtue, he could get in to the Crimson Lions. His sister was currently the Vice Captain, after all. But, he knew it was not for him. The Magic Knights were a great group, protectors of the Clover Kingdom, and were noble in their cause. It made joining them very appealing, and Augustus knew that it would do their family good to have another member be a prominent member of the Magic Knights. However, that was not his calling. Fighting was one thing, but fighting at the behest of the Wizard King was another. To go on missions was great, but to do it constantly without freedom was another thing that Augustus was not happy about. Truly, he knew that the life of a Magic Knight was filled with the joys of freedom, but it was freedom at a cost. Throwing away a portion of his independence was just a little too much, and certainly even more so when he was tied down by the hierarchical structure that was almost too stringent. But, the most damning reason why Augustus did not consider joining the Magic Knights was his sister Lydia. She was the one who was tasked in making a name for their family through the Magic Knights. She had trained her whole life for combat, and it was her pride and the family’s honour to have her be such a prominent member already, serving as the Vice Captain of the Crimson Lions. No, he could never do that to his sister, step into her domain. Instead, he looked towards the other prominent organization that graced the Clover Kingdom: the Church of Clover.[break][break]
Augustus would watch as the young Vermillion noble lady finish dressing back up, before giving him a wave. Without pause, the woman would open the door of his room, and step outside, closing the door gently as to not alert anybody at all. A secret tryst, gone with the moon that had been replaced by the now peeking sun. He supposed that this will be a very rare occasion starting today. Augustus knew that his next step will be joining the Church of Clover and climbing its ranks. The problem was that to do that, he will need to take on responsibilities and duties of becoming clergy, and it will take more than a chunk of his time. So, trysts like these will become few and far between, though it was still possible. It was well known that the Church of Clover allowed their clergy to have relationships, which suited Augustus just fine. He needs to one day sire the next generation of Ravencrests, after all, and since his sister seems to have been taken with the current Head of the Somerset family, Augustus would most likely be responsible for the continuation of their bloodline. He did not have a problem with it. Far from it! However, it was something he needed to consider before joining the Church of Clover. [break][break]
“Master Augustus, your guest has arrived.”[break][break]
Augustus would turn to the door, and realized that one of the Ravencrest servants was peeking through, though his head was bowed, shied by the state of undress of Augustus. He would nod, before answering, “Please escort them to the gardens. I would like to entertain them there.” The servant was about to leave, but Augustus stopped her, “Oh, and please have my breakfast sent there as well. And offer the guest breakfast if they would like, if not then a spot of tea or coffee.” The servant nodded once more before taking her leave. It seems that time was not his friend at this point, since he had not been aware that dawn had already passed. It was a bad trait of his, to sometimes get lost in his thoughts. It was not so much chronic, but it definitely side tracked him sometimes when there was little to do. [break][break]
“I suppose I should get up, shouldn’t I?” Augustus stretched his arms once again, before unfurling the covers and leaping up to his feet. The day was just about to begin, yet Augustus felt as if the day had already gone by. It was always the same each and every single day, however. The feeling of weariness sometimes overcame him. The thought of having to go to the Forum and engage in formal debates on political matters invigorated him, though it also caused him quite a few headaches. Verbal sparring was where he shined, however, it was always very hard to calmly engage in it when those on the other side have no modicum of respect or rhetorical talent what so ever. It was like talking to a brick wall, expecting it to fall. Augustus, however, did not complain a bit. He supposed he had been used to it by now. When he had first started his career as a politician, he had been starry eyed, star struck by the big names he had encountered throughout his lifetime. The court life had been kind to him as an Upper Nobility, though the Silvas were the most cutthroat when it came to challenging him. Left and right, the Silva family were his main threats when it came to political maneuverings, but he was able to manage, especially with the mutual support of the Vermillions. It was in this kind of stage that the once fifteen year old Ravencrest had grown up in, and it was what molded him into the brash and rhetorically-wizened young man he was now. It was a trial by fire, and he was able to succeed without too many scars. He was both proud of it, and at the same time, was very weary. He needed to leave. He needed to escape. He needed something new.[break][break]
“Priestess Sierra.” Augustus would nod to himself, grabbing one of his robes, before tying the straps on the torso, closing the robe and protecting his decency. “I suppose it has been awhile since I have seen her.” He shrugged as he started his way towards the door of his room. “I wonder if she knows why I had asked her to meet me.” Augustus and the Priestess had some history, not so personal, but in a political sense. It had been awhile since they had actually met, the last being almost a year ago. [break][break]
The walk from his own room to the gardens had not taken too long, though Augustus had stopped a few times to greet the servants in the familial estate. He was cordial with most of them, understanding that they were as human as anybody else. However much his pride ran through his blood, he still retained some form of decency. At least, that was what he liked to think. It was one of the reasons why he had decided to go with this route, instead of the other. The Magic Knights were heavy handed. They enforced the law in true show of force. The Church of Clover, instead, kept the peace by giving hope. While he might be a warrior at heart, he could at least stand up for his beliefs, defending the weak, and giving alms to those who need it the most. Charity work, it was something that he found himself to be good at. [break][break]
Arriving at the double doors, Augustus smirked before opening it out wide. The garden itself was more like a large lawn, with steps that went up to the manor proper. A table was set up just before the double doors, and overlooked the large hedge maze that decorated a portion of the Ravencrest estate. It was a beautiful sight, and Augustus would stop for a moment, just relishing the sight, before turning his attention towards the Priestess who was sitting on one of the two chairs. In between her and the other chair was a round glass table, which was now full with platters of eggs, bacon, and french toast. His favourite breakfast, and one that gave him a great start for the day. He would carefully maneuver himself towards the other chair, watching the Priestess who seemed preoccupied with looking over the hedge maze. He pulled his chair, and sat down, crossing his legs to reveal him to be barefoot. As per usual when he was at home.[break][break]
“Priestess Sierra, lovely to see you once more.” He would start, earning a smile from the priestess herself. The woman would turn to Augustus, her face immaculate, while her eyes held a shrewdness that was very unexpected from a priestess of the Church of Clover. Augustus knew that Priestess Sierra was not just some lackey, but was a rather savvy individual who worked with a lot of the noble families. There was a reason, after all, as to why she was assigned to the Royal Capital. The Church of Clover held quite a bit of influence, and those assigned to the Royal Capital were renowned for sometimes dealing in politics. While some nobles have condemned it, others only embraced it. The Church of Clover, after all, was a conduit that held the Clover Kingdom together, from the lowliest of the commoners, to the Monarchy itself. It was used, not only to spread unity throughout the Clover Kingdom, but also sometimes as a messenger to the far reaches of the Clover Kingdom. The importance of the Church of Clover made its existence a necessity, and therefore its influence quite vast. Only those who were uneducated, or those who were politically blind, did not see just how deep the Church of Clover’s runs. [break][break]
The Priestess Sierra would now grace Augustus with a wider smile, before starting, “Augustus Ravencrest. I did not think that you had it in you to try and tame one of the Lionesses.” She smirked then, “I saw that Vermillion lady leave just as I was coming up to the estate. She had quite the limp, I thought. I wonder if you were being careful.” Sierra would hake her head, before turning just slightly serious. “Getting to the point. Augustus Ravencrest is not one to call a Priestess without it being important, least of all myself. Tell me, then, what you need.”[break][break]
Augustus nodded; it was time to convince the Priestess. [break][break]
